First semester teaching.. Very boring and keeps you the entire time. Test are hard, but she does give you study guides which kind of help.
she doesn't do much to spice up the material, very blatantly stops class to ask for everyone's opinion.. just seems like a waste of time and really hard to get into. as an accounting major her tests require 1% of the time and effort to study for. i get C's and D's in ACC and haven't scored once under 90 so far (tests/papers)
Really boring, and acts really nervous to be teaching. She's kinda helpful if you go to office hours. As boring as she is, her notes are exactly like her tests, so try to go to class it'll make things easier.

She accomodates her students very well, is extremely knowledgeable, and although the class was titled "Business Ethics" it was a good introduction to basic philosphy concepts. I think she did a great job, especially for her first semester. If you have to take this class, take it with her.
I really like this teacher! She was animated, funny, and knew a lot about her material. She is very clear about what she expects, and if you go to class it's very easy to pass the class. Class is easy to sit through because she is a great teacher!
This is not a bad class at all. GO to class, this is college, and you will fully understand what she wants and expects. One group project presentation, not bad. 40 question tests M.C.
Heather is a WONDERFUL teacher, the class is basically notes and discussion, her quizzes are really easy and you only have to write one small paper. She lets you speak your mind and doesn't make you feel like you are wrong. She has a good outlook on life and is pretty funny in her own way, you need to go to class for notes for her exams GREAT class
Go to class! Attendance/participation count as 10 points of your final grade. it helps! She is very knowledgable. She gives study guides for her exams. And if you have gone to class and taken all the notes she gives(Which, aren't bad) you will pass the exams and class with flying colors. One group presentation, which was fun!
Worst teacher at CMU ... the cases she makes you do don't make any sense, she doesn't help ... while you are presenting she draws pictures of you which is VERY distracting. Her exams are half true or false and she'll change one word just to trick you. She wont make eye contact with the class which also is very annoying. Not happy her.
She is a good professor you watch movies for every section and she tries to wake the class up by discussion so participate it will help your grade. Not a hard class just do the readings and her exams are fair.
This class was a bit boring, but not bad for a UP. Tests were easy and she gives a great study guide for them. Most of the class only showed up on test days. If you show up once in awhile it helps. She goes by the book; practically word for word. Her class is slightly boring though, but she tries to make it fun and interesting.
While covering for another professor, she held her own quite well in a field she did not specialize in. She was very sympathetic, courteous, and helpful. Though sometimes she was unclear and had a hard time trying to explain it in other terms. But that is likely due to it being outside of her focus.
VERY easy class - if you go to class & take notes, you shouldn't have any problems. Not a lot of work to do for this class. She does draw pictures while your presenting & yes, it was distracting! She's nice prof though.
She was a very percise person when she talks. Class gets pretty boring after the 30 min mark. All quizes are online, 3 tests are pretty easy, 1 group presentation, final is not cumulitive
She can take a long time to post grades from exams. This class is pretty easy.
PHL 397A: Animal Ethics. I'm a little biased being a PHL major, but I was worried with how much she spoon-fed her students. She breaks down the material very well -perfect for non-majors. Promotes individual thinking and debate: encourages discussion. 2 exams, 1 group project, and 5 one-page reader response journals. DO ALL THE READING! Great prof.
This is a great class. You learn about a lot of case studies. The class is pretty much three exams and a group presentation, not bad if you make an effort. You have to study for the exams but if you use her study guides you will do fine.

She is really weird and awkward but she makes everything easy to understand. You may think you understand it, but she will always find a way to mark you off points on homework.
She is funny and explains things well. Seems to grade pretty leniently. Usually have an online quiz due before class, but they are easy and only take a few minutes, as long as you read the readings when you should.
The exams are very easy. The guide she gave is useful.
All the pop quizzes are really easy if you at least skim the assigned readings. The tests are fair, but she's not really clear about what she wants in your answers. The small papers and class work is really easy as well.
She is probably the easiest professor I've ever had. Quirky, clear, and less-than-concise, you either like her a lot or get really annoyed. Take her.
Easy grader on homework. Essay tests that are easy if you do the study guide (all info from test is on guide) must be very specific on essays to get full points. Quirky lady. Show up and take notes and you'll get at least a B
Class involves an awful lot of reading. Case study exercises help with tests. Pretty fun and interesting class.
There is alot of reading involved but if you push through it and go to class and take the notes you will get at least a B. The exams come right off of the study guide she gives you so know it, you have to give one presentation with a partner that is graded hard, but the (short) papers and pop quizzes are a breeze. Take her!
Very helpful and enthusiastic about the subject matter. I was worried about doing well in the class because it's not my thing, but she was such a great proff that I was fine.
A few essays, there were readings you had to do for every class period and she gave random quizzes, so you actually have to read every time. Exams are essay exams, but if you study the study guide she gives out you'll ace it. There's a partner project/presentation you have to do and it's graded pretty hard. She's enthusiastic, but kind of boring.
Lots of reading but it is not too hard. All classes are lectures and pretty boring but taking she is very enthusiastic about the subjects. She is very helpful and easy of get ahold of.
She's very quirky, the class overall isn't too bad, but the tests are all essay and she grades quite hard.
Professor Kendrick is a very passionate professor. As long as you have some interest in philosophy, you will do fine. Her lectures can get lengthy and boring, but as long as you pay a little attention, no note taking is required. I would recommend her to anyone who is particularly interested in ethics.
Very rude to communicate with, but overall an interesting class where I learned a lot. A lot of busy work but it wasn't difficult. Exams were proctored but also easy.
You must participate in class or else you will be extremely bored. She does not always ask if people have questions, so throw your hand in the air and ask one whenever. She will listen to your perspective, but do not say something if you have nothing to back it up with. READ THE CHAPTERS. Everything depends on the readings. EVERYTHING.
Heather is quite an interesting woman. She is a bit confusing to understand if you don't understand philosophy. Make sure you read all the stores and you will be fine.
Lectures are boring and you must go to understand what is going on. Readings are difficult because they are classical philosophy. She is helpful. Goes on random tangents and talks about things that don't matter frequently. Ask questions and do the readings.
She is the hardest and weirdest professor I have had. She is really hard to understand. She has a qwerky way of teaching and very scatter brained. I wouldn't recommend her at all!
This is one of the hardest classes I've ever taken, if you don't understand anything about philosophy DO NOT take this class. She is a very interesting person and encourages you to give your thoughts but when you do she just says your wrong and makes you feel stupid. I'm a very smart student and this class was really difficult for me. Dont take
This class by far is the hardest class to pay attention in. The material is very cut and dry and I wish I would have taken it ONLINE! If you don't understand anything about philosophy, I would not take this class :(
Although I got a good grade in the class, I had to work extremely hard. I think this class was a little harsh for a 100 level UP class. Grades nearly depend completely on exams. She does not make it clear what she wants to see on exams and if your wording doesn't match her thoughts, you will be marked down. Take a less harsh prof if possible.
Overly opinionated. She gives the impression she KNOWS what philosophers were thinking. If your personal interpretation is different than hers, you are wrong. More reading than any other class I have taken. Exams are hard. This class was a bore and honestly one of my least favorite I have ever taken. Grades too harshly for a lower level class.
By far one of the most exhausting and unnecessary classes I took this semester. Kendrick is ridiculously dry, posts lectures online, and weighs exams way too heavily. As a 100 course, this was WAY too much work for an introductory course.
If you want a good grade, this class has to be a main focus. Do all the readings and take notes on the online lectures. Stay on top of things or you will get lost and have no chance of catching up.
Very confusing class, she expects you to listen to her lectures while out of class so that you can do pointless assignments in class that won't even be graded. I would not recommend taking philosophy in general, but if you do make sure it is with a different professor. The amount of time that has to be put into this intro class is ridiculous!
Extremely dry & boring. Monotone voice. Lectures all hour, doesn't ask questions or include students unless they speak up themselves. Group activities a lot. Concepts hard to grasp if you don't pay attention. TONS of reading assigned before every class. Very hard exams. Not very helpful when you ask questions, just repetitive. Dreaded every class.
Lectures are extremely long and boring and very hard to sit through. She doesn't directly answer a question, just goes into a rant about something similar or talks around the question. She gives pop quizzes and exams are difficult. She's a very nice person, however, her class is nothing but boring.
I dreaded coming to this class. It was SO boring and she lectures for the whole time usually. It's tough to stay awake in this class.
Class was soooooo boring, but I think that's just due to the nature of philosophy classes. Definitely very hard to stay awake and there was often up to three hours of reading to do before every class. However, as long as you participated, you would get an A, so that's a plus.
Prof. Kendrick is a very nice lady who obviously loves what she does. The problem is that her teaching style can be a bit boring at times. She was an easy grader, and the homework was not too bad other than adjusting to the advanced level of reading assigned. However, if you talk to her out of class it helps to clear things up.
Although this class is odd, Kendrick is a very nice lady who clearly loves what she does. The class grading is structured clearly and she offers amazing feedback on papers. Exams (2) are essays (5 options, you write on 3). Participation will make a difference- I overslept an exam and she let me make it up since I always spoke up in class.
nice lady. knows her stuff about philosophy and ethical theorists but can make a one word answer go on for a half hour. she is he epitome of "that person trying to reach a word count on their paper". She is an easy grader for group projects, her online quizzes are short and easy if you can find a highlighted book, and her tests follow the powerps
This class is pretty easy, but beware of very LONG AND BORING lectures. She basically doesn't take a breath from the time class starts to when it ends. I barley went to class and still did pretty well since she posts all the lecture slides on blackboard. Easy grader on group projects and presentation. She tries to confuse you on exams though.
Professor Kendrick is very kind and understanding, however, her voice is monotonous. Get ready for a good half hour to two hours of reading before every class and participate in discussion as much as possible. Otherwise, she will lecture for the ENTIRE class period. The material is interesting but you will have to work to understand it.
Professor Kendrick is very kind and understanding, however, her voice is monotonous. Get ready for a good half hour to two hours of reading before every class and participate in discussion as much as possible. Otherwise, she will lecture for the ENTIRE class period. The material is interesting but you will have to work to understand it, have fun.
Such a kind, understanding woman, but this was the most boring class I have ever taken in my life. Lectured the entire 1 hour and 15 min class in a monotoned voice, so it was very hard to stay awake. Almost weekly reading responses, 12 opportunities and 8 are graded, but only two tests that has mult. choice and two essays. Term paper toughly graded
She's cool as a cucumber.
Many people didn't care for Professor Kendrick, but I did not mind her. She is passionate about what she does, which can lead to her lecturing about something for nearly the entire class period. She made a WI class pretty easy and she grades pretty lenient. She has her own quirkiness to her that makes her funny. Overall, she was a good professor to
She is very clear of what is expected of students making it easy to get a good grade. There is a decent amount of homework, but it usually only takes about 15 minutes. The only negative thing about this class were the class presentation days, if you don't present there is almost no reason to go.
Such a passionate, smart woman who made a WI class easy. Her lectures are boring but she structures the class in a way that sets you up for success. Her exams are essays and she is a fair grader. I would recommend a class with her, especially since she cares about her students and her subject.
I took this class online and it was one of the best online classes I have taken. The class is outlined clearly and Kendrick lays out her expectations. The deadlines are flexible and easy to meet. If you take the time to go over the study guide, the exams are a breeze.
Very nice lady, but the lectures were extremely boring.
Excellent prof
Overall solid professor.
Really no complaints at all. She was very nice and did her best to keep everyone interested.
She's quirky in a way that might distract you from the lecture that seems to drag on. The information is interesting the lectures are boring, but if you want to pass, you better study. Average exam scores are around 76% and while I received a low 92% most of the time, it was only due to be studying for 10 hours before an exam.
Dr. Kendrick is a little quirky but she knows how to make a very boring topic pretty engaging. As long as you show up to class and take notes and participate in group work you should do just fine, as the exam is similar to the lectures and the few readings you have to do. Overall, Dr. Kendrick is a great professor and I highly recommend taking her.
Prof. Kendrick does an excellent job teaching philosophy - due to her neutral objectivity toward the subjects she teaches, her lectures are very deep and thought provoking. However, she is a bit of a tough grader on the essay portions of exams, and she assigns A LOT of readings. Her classes are not easy A's, but a quality education is never easy.
- Lecture HEAVY and tends to get off-topic - There are not many assignments study slides, lecture notes, and quizzes for exams - Not a demanding class, but slow at times
Professor Kendrick taught a lecture heavy, but still interesting class. If you find philosophy interesting, or at least interesting enough to pay attention, than you will do just fine.
This is Dr. Kendricks first time teaching this class, and I loved it. She is incredibly passionate about the subject, which makes her lectures much more enjoyable. While she does assign readings, I did not read a single paper and still got a perfect score, as she goes through them beat for beat in class. Pay attention half the time and get your A.
She was really nice, I took the class she has her major in Phl 158 so she was really excited about it. Lectures a lot but if it were in person I think it would be more discussion-based. All in all, I would take it again.
Dr. Kendrick was an amazing professor for phl 102 wi! She made a writing intensive easy and kept the class interesting, even though it was online. There are readings before every lecture and can be a lot to read at times, weekly discussion board posts, a midterm, final, and one final paper. She does tend to lecture the whole time.
Prof Kendrick is so amazing! She is super caring and really respects her students. Do your assignments and ask questions and you will do good. Prof Kendrick is amazing.
Prof. Kendrick knows the material she teachers very well, and it was nice having someone well versed in animal and environmental ethics. However, myself and another student had an issue that resulted in Kendrick saying that we were causing a "class uprising" and refusing help before our first exam. Very unprofessional behavior. Avoid if possible.
The class was interesting and an easy A. Good class to pick if you need a WI. Professor Kendrick also gave good feedback. Discussion days are very helpful.
I took professor Kendricks morals and ethics class. At first, I was nervous because dr. Kendrick seemed like a very tough professor. In all honesty, she is one of the most chill professors Ive ever had. The course content is interesting, and the course load isnt too much. I would take a class taught by her again.
This class was very difficult for me but I think it was mostly because I took it online. And if you've ever taken an online class before then you know that the professor isn't really present in any of the teaching. They provide the material and you have to learn it. I would suggest taking this class on campus
Professor Kendricks is very passionate about this class because it's what she specializes in which is animal ethics. Sometimes she can lecture beyond the scope of what is needed on the exams. Overall I found the class really interesting and I enjoyed having her as a professor.
Great professor, very clear and consistent assignment schedule and grading. Study for the exams! Need good grade on exams to pass, even if you have 100% on everything else. Not hard class, easy to understand, easy homework. Grades late assignments. Highly recommend !!
What I really liked about her is how passionate she is about what she does. She is not boring, I enjoy coming to her class. There is an average amount of work to do, not too bad. She is very good at explaining. Would take her again!!
There was virtually no communication with the professor unless you needed help. This class was reasonable and straightforward. You have to understand the information in the virtual lectures and utilize the practice quiz slides to do well on the exams. The exams make up most of your grade so you need to do well on those.
Very lecture heavy but if you pay attention and write down her PowerPoint in your notes, you'll be okay. There's a lot of reading quizzes and discussion boards also. She allows you a 3x5 notecard on every test which is super helpful. I loved her as a professor, and she taught her material very well. I respect her and her abilities.
Dr. Kendrick will assign homework with complicated readings and not explain them. She rambles and gets off topic while also reading off a slide show.
She was very accommodating to students and let us use notecards on tests and have multiple attempts on quizzes. There are a decent amount of readings but she does talk about them the next day in class so if you don't understand them or don't read them listen to her explain them. I didn't take the writing-intensive but it seems like a good option.
The class was ok it was very lecture-heavy and the lectures were soooo boring. I wouldn't recomend. She's nice but just over-explains everything which makes it very boring
I thought Professor Kendricks class was great. Some lectures felt long, but she kept them interesting. The exams were straight forward, just study the PowerPoints and some terms from the book.
I really liked this class. Professor Kendrick is such a nice lady and has your best interest in mind. She was always willing to help and she made the subjects very engaging which helps with understanding the material for exams. Great choice for a WI. The exams were not hard at all if you listened in class and took notes. She wants you to pass.
Class was very lecture heavy, easily taken off track by questions and would go on tangents. The lectures themselves are very boring and almost put you to sleep half the time. Weekly quizzes are over lengthy philosophy papers or reading straight out of the text book these quizzes were worth 10 points for most times around 30 pages of reading.
Lecture heavy class, she's nice but firm, if you do the work you should be fine
Does not round even .1 otherwise course is fine if you have to take this course
THIS IS FOR PHL 128 THERE WAS NO OPTION FOR IT. Dr. Kendrick is such a caring woman who shows her personality. She is quite shy, but you can tell she genuinely cares about what she is teaching and her students. Also, ask her about pinball, rollercoasters, or animals and she will be very happy. Great professor!
Read, read, read! Lectures will cover what you couldn't understand from the reading. Midterm and final are MASSIVE parts of your grade, and you get a notecard. Be respectful of Dr. Kendrick, engage with her questions and discussions, and you will succeed.
PHL definitely isn't my strong suit, but this class wasn't too bad. The exams are essay questions, minus the final, which has some multiple-choice. Notecards are allowed for the exams, which helps a lot. She does go on long tangents, but ig that is expected with PHL professors. Overall, the class was kinda boring, but it wasn't unbearable.
