She was a very scatterbrained teacher and tends to go off on tangents A LOT. She gives a lot of textbook homework that doesn't necessarily help but she requires it to be done. If you're good at calculus and can manage to pay attention, you should be okay. Otherwise you'll struggle. Second time I've taken calculus and I struggled.
She is super sweet. Tests are easy if you pay attention and complete the MYMATHLAB. She has textbook work assign but it is not required but it is useful if you are struggling.
She was the best math professor I ever had! She really wants you to understand the material. She makes the class fun and you actually want to learn. The stuff you learn, you can actually apply to your day to day life
Dr. Mathison is a good professor in the sense that she really wants her students to succeed. Lectures are okay, though she spends too much time ramping up to the point. Going to office hours helps and she is more than willing to help you. Homework is nothing short of ridiculous though. Get ready to work!
Mrs. Mathison was a great professor! The homework is INSANELY long but it's optional (5 points added to test) and it helped SO much. The group quizzes suck because she picks which one to grade randomly so if you dont work together, you can fail an easy quiz. DO THE EXTRA HOMEWORK (i did this instead of studying). LISTEN IN CLASS. AND ASK QUESTIONS.
You dont have to necessary buy the textbook, but you do if you want to do extra-credit homework. Her exams are heavy. If you have never taken Calculus then run. If you have taken calculus then its just like highschool. She doesnt really explain the material. Pop quizzes everyday, homework only ADDS 5 POINTS to exam.
Takes far too long getting to the point in lectures. Homework is incredibly lengthy but gives you extra credit on tests. Teaches like a 3rd grade teacher. Makes you dance or buy cookies if your phone goes off on accident. Terrible at explaining things. Doesn't curve. Her husband, the Calc II teacher, is substantially worse. Don't take either.
Only accessible outside of class about 30 minutes. Her lectures are confusing!! especially when she states (GOO). The exams are heavy. There is no reviews for exams. My first time taking Calculus and I struggled. I felt like a little kid when she gave lectures. I had to miss class a couple times due to an incident, and she didnt fix my attendance.
If I hadn't taken Calculus I in high school, there's no way I would've passed this class. Her way of explaining things just never really clicked with me. I failed the first exam pretty bad, but was able to make up for it by doing the extra credit homework which is really what helped me better understand the concepts taught in this class.
Please do not take Calculus with Mathison if you didn't take Cal in highschool. The way she lectures is so confusing. For a 2 hour class there was days I didn't understand, and she was never available for office hours. I heard her husband is a Cal2 prof so beware taking both! I have ended this class with a D and I actually tried my best.
She is a terrible teacher, does not care and does not know how to teach. She does not explain the hard things but they are the ones that always pop up. DO NOT TAKE HER if you have the option.
Mathison is not that bad! People that didn't do well in her class either fell asleep during it or didn't put in enough effort (then complain). Her lectures are rather boring, but if you actually do the OPTIONAL homework, it'll pay off. (Doing the homework gives you five points on the exam.) Don't be scared, if you're a good student you'll be fine.
Although she wasn't my first choice, she made you work for the grade but had helpful extra credit to boost your grade. I wouldn't take her again, but having her as a teacher isn't the end of the world. Just show up and take the class seriously.
She grades her tests unnecessarily hard (I only passed 2 of the 4 tests and I took calculus in high school) but does give partial credit. Just be warned that if you have taken calculus in high school, she will be picky about doing things the way she taught on the tests. Also, don't make the same mistake I did, do the extra credit homework.
I took her MATH1324 in Spring 2017. It's clear that she cares about her students. Every week there are MyMathLab assignments due, managable if you don't put off until the last minute. She explained the material really well and gives handouts for the notes each class. A relatively easy class overall. :)
Professor Mathison is super nice! Defintley makes you work for your grade! She is kinda confusing. Wouldnt take her again for another math course.
She's a good teacher and explains things clearly. I would recommend sitting in the middle of the classroom. Mathlabs online are due every week, that is a major part of your grade. If you don't do some it does have a ripple effect on your grade. Her test are Effy, I feel she doesn't really put the context we learned on the test it's more tricky.
Dr. Mathison is a great instructor. She is very passionate about math and helping students where help is needed. When I struggled in her class I would visit her office hours. Just like any college course you have to work hard but it does pay off. Her tests are open ended and some are a little difficult but she gives partial credit so SHOW YOUR WORK
This class was great! She had very clear lectures and good explanations. Of course, the material is hard but she made it really simple and was always available to help during office hours. She was always optimistic and positive during lecture which made learning calculus better. There is partial credit on tests so make sure to show your work.
Dr. Mathison was an awesome professor. She was good at explaining things and really cares about her students. She did take awhile to put grades online which was frustrating. There's a lot of online homework but most of it is pretty simple.
There's a pop quiz every day at the start of class. You know it's coming, but it does happen everyday, so make sure you understand the topic from the previous day. There is a LOT of homework, but it rlly does help you learn. Calculus is a hard subject, so being in class is important if you want an A! She also gives a lot of partial credit on tests!
I personally loved her class. She gives out notes in the beginning of every class and is very good at explaining the material. Be prepared for pop quizzes at the beginning of every class, but they are very easy if you understand the material. Tests were easy and straight-forward.
Yeah, don't take her. Every single test was no longer than 6-7 questions and were all free response, so if you miss a couple you're already screwed. She also grades extremely heavy (even if you get the answer correct, she will go back and deduct points if she doesn't like your work). NO extra credit what so ever. Insane amount of studyinglow grade
Mrs. Mathison is actually a very managebale teacher. She is a strict grader, but she shows you before the test how she wants things done. If you put the time in, this class will absolutely be an easy A.
The WORST prof. Do not take her class. She was very difficult and doesnt reply to emails. Gives dirty looks when 5 mins late to class, talks like the class is elementary school kids, gives random worksheets, and the quick checks at beginning of class are pointless. Not a very effective teacher & put the wrong grade on my transcript.
She is very good at explaining the material! Very kind and never makes you feel dumb for asking questions like some professors. There are little quick checks at the beginning of class but theyre short and easy. Most negative reviews seem to be from students who were just lazy about coming to class and studying, cause shes great at teaching!
Good math professor, tries to make the lectures easy to understand. The class should be easy if you do the homework and study the notes. Theres quizzes everyday so be prepared. She grades easy as long as show your work. The class should be an easy A as long as you understand the material.
Good prof. She prints off all your note outlines for you so dont go buy a spiral. An A isnt very hard to make as long as you go to class.
If you go to her office hours she is more than willing to help you understand whatever you're confused about. Coming from someone who is weak in math, she taught slow and tries her very best to make sure everyone understands. Her MyMathLabs were easy. Overall, she is a very straight forward and wants you to succeed!
Before taking the class some of the feedback I had seen for Prof. Mathison was worrying, but I was pleasantly surprised. Her teaching is clear and memorable, she provides reviews for tests, and overall she was really nice and helped with any questions. The "pop quizzes" every class were really easy and your grade entirely depends on if you study.
Does a really good job of explaining information in simplest form. The class itself was really easy. She had 4 tests per semester, online MyMathLabs due weekly, & quick checks every class period. She wants her students to do well & makes sure people are showing up & focused while in class. She prints out the slides every class period to take notes.

Dr. Mathison is amazing at teaching math! She knows her stuff and you will too! She tells you ahead of time her expectations and they don't change. I love how she makes math easy to understand. She could read the looks on my face to see if I was getting it or not and she would help if I was lost.
She's a really nice lady and she really wants everyone to do well in class. She is easy to reach outside of class and is super understanding. Her lectures are easy to follow and she's open to answering questions or going back over difficult material.
I think she's a pretty great math teacher. She really knows how to teach and make sure you understand. She's nice when you ask questions. Tests are not hard as long as you really understand the material.
DO NOT take her. I failed all of my tests and when I went to look at them she gave me -22 off one question when I got 16/17 right. I knew all the material. Shes not clear what she wants on texts and will take off points for anything. She will not bump anyones grade. Everybody in my class has complained. Save yourself and dont take this class.
Dr. Math is a great math professor, she goes into great depth in chapters and answers any questions you have outside of class. She gives out many grades, which might be annoying, but it helps your grade out. Exams are easy if you practice!
Definitely a solid calculus professor. Her lectures tend to be very boring and basic, but they will really help strengthen your overall knowledge of concepts. Offers 5 pts extra credit each test if you do book assignments. I highly recommend doing these as you will have a better understanding of the material and they're for extra credit.

Her lectures are very boring and it is hard to stay awake during them. The practice problems she covers in class are cake compared to the test questions that she asks. She offers textbook homework for extra credit, which is helpful. The class is not super difficult, but the lectures make it hard to focus. She is nice though and is available usually
Mathison was alright. A lot of my class struggled because she grades the tests really hard but I had taken calc 1 in high school and my teacher in high school grades tougher than she did so I was prepared for it, but she is a tough grader. The big complaint I have about her is that the lectures were 2 hours when they couldve been 30 minutes.
The quizzes that she gives first thing in the beginning of class is really tough because if you are even 2-4 mins late you will miss it. I would not take her. Cal 1 is easy but I feel that she makes it hard. Long lectures.
This professor made me love this class! It is hard and does demand a lot of time and effort, but she makes math actually Easier to learn. If you ask her questions she will actually answer and help you!
Dr. Math (what she likes to go by) is an amazing professor. she is caring, relaxed, and helpful on or off campus. Her lectures are detailed so she explains each step. She gives a quick check before every class which is extremely helpful towards your grade. Some of the quick checks are just questions about how you're doing in her class. MUST TAKE!<3
She does not weigh the grades correctly. Homework is only 1.5% of your grade where tests are everything if you bomb one test it is almost impossible (very hard) to come back from it. She grades very hard and if your work is not done the way she showed you in class then the problem is wrong. Her feedback is not clear as to what you need to work on.
Me and my roommate both had her and we both hate her class. She uses honor lock on tests and does not allow us to use paper, instead we must use a whiteboard and show our work to the camera. She gives excessive homework over the weekends and her lectures are awful. She spends too much time on easy topics and then breezes through the hard stuff.
I know calculus from high school, but she makes calculus so much harder than it should be. If you can take anyone else, do yourself the favor.
Homework was on MML, so it wasn't too bad. However, grades were very test heavy and she grades tough on the way work is shown, you have to solve it the way she does. She makes calculus harder than it should be, I took it in high school and didn't expect it to be as tough as she made it.
I was able to do fine in this class, but she make's this calculus 1 class WAYY harder than it needs to be. A lot of our class dropped halfway through. Her grading on tests is very tough and takes off a lot of points on miniscule things. There is a quiz at the beginning of class that she will not let you take even if you are 2 minutes late to class.
I really disliked Dr. Math's class. She makes the class harder than it should be. She spends a lot of time on the easy stuff but barely touches on the harder topics. I took precal in HS and made an A, but I finished this class with a C. Also try to not get covid. She wouldn't let another student that got covid do a makeup exam and they took 0.
I took math 2412 with this professor, with her grading and inability to help you when you ask, makes it hard to achieve an A. She goes over easy material for to long and does little to help you understand the hard parts, which she expects you to learn on your own. Mostly just explains the material and expects you to get it with. Overall really bad.
Dr. Mathison was super nice to me. I appreciated her taking time before class to explain some problems that I was struggling with. She was particular on grades but if you picked up on it after the first test it made the other 2-3 easier. She teaches a way to do it and that is how she wants to see it on the test - not how you may have learned b4
I would say I'm decently good in math but this professor made this class harder than it had to be. She didn't explain things very well and I had to teach everything to myself. The class has to correct her every single class day. Assigns homework from things we haven't even learned yet. Just take a different professor.
Mrs. Mathison definitely deserves a better rating than she has now. She was extremely patient and her lessons were very clear and informational. She is very kind and always ready to help. I took her as an 8-week course and was very worried since it was my first college math class but she helped me anytime I needed!!!
Honest Review. Had a 4.0 before, came out with first B. She docked (alot) points from exam grades for tiny things. IG she doesn't realize she is teaching a group of ENGR students (my class atleast) and there will be times where we skip a few steps & still get the answer. xtra credit but it is heavy work. With a better grader, I would have an A
I failed her class! Do not take her. She goes super fast and gives hard problems. She doesnt offer an extra credit for bonus points. I am bad at math and it is not my subject and I had to put it a lot of extra work. She doesnt have a lot of sympathy either. I would not recommend if you struggle with math.
Professor Mathison was great she really cares about her students. You have to study for the test because she does grade quite hard with all free-response tests, except for the final. She gives extra credit make sure to do all of it, it will help you study for the test. Overall, if you have a chance take Prof Mathison.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASSES!!!! She is a very tough grader and offers no extra credit. Her exams are very heavy on your grade. If you do not work the problem the way she would it is counted wrong. She also assigns a lot of homework and assigned homework over a holiday break.
She will print notes for you which is nice, but lectures go fast and you MUST pay attention as you go or you will get lost. One nice thing is that she posts the lectures so you are able to go back and look at them. You do not get feedback on your exams so you don't know what needs working on. Not able to go back to MML once the exam is taken.
She seemed like a genuine person outside of class but the course was based soley on her lectures which were her worksheets. Only had four exams which were all difficult, so much online homework too. When she puts grades in, it takes the longest time for them to be seen online. Would not recommend taking this course AT ALL.
Professor Mathinson is a very caring professor. She will help you out if you go to office hours. She will spend time making sure that the students understand the material. The only problem I had was that her exams were very tough and you need to spend a lot of time preparing for them or you will not pass.
Do yourself a favor and avoid taking this professor. Super picky about phones and If you fail one exam you might as well drop the course. There's a good chance you will not comeback. If you fail one exam it does not matter if you do all the homework because the weight of exams are too high. You get a lot of homework everyday too.
Took her for calc2.EXTREMELY difficult grader, and made me question my ability to study. Gives out extra credit for up2 5 points added back to test,but even if you do all exactly how she wants, shell only give 1/4 of a point.Prelecture short quizzes everyday at the exact minute class starts.She is easily accessible and very smart but not super nice
I have never been good at math, but she made it so easy to understand. She was always super helpful when I had questions and understanding. There was a fair amount of homework, but only a few of them were long.
Professor Mathison deserves more credit than her rating gives her. I had her for Calc 2 which is a difficult class to start with. She gives extra credit that takes a lot of time to complete but is worth 5 points on each test and prepares you for each exam. There are graded quick checks at the beginning of each class so don't skip.
She gives notes that seem very clear and are super easy making you feel like you understand. Then gives you the homework and test which have multiple problems you haven't learned and are way harder to understand than the notes.
Do not select him as your professor. He goes into so much detail where an almost 3 hour lecture could easily be pushed to half. Is unclear of what is your homework vs. what is just practice. All of my friends dropped his class and I wish I did to. If you have to have him as a professor go into grades everyday so the you don't miss anything.
Please avoid this professor at all cost if you struggle with math! Annoying honorlock requirements. Easy notes but extremely difficult homework and test questions. I could write an essay but the word requirement won't let me.
THIS LADY DONE TAKEN A MONTH OR LONGER FOR TEST GRADES she gives a Ton of homework and a hard to navigate course. deadlines will be regular until she randomly shifts them. This teacher makes a hard math class harder, her proctoring requirments are wack she makes you take a weird angle you cant use scratch paper. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS
Avoid taking her for online! she is a nice lady but gives so much homework and has so many requirements for the honorlock exams. She gives a total of 4 exams along with a final exam which is too much. I would not recommend her for online just because of the workload.
I absolutely loved Dr. Mathison. I took her 16 week course. She's the best math professor I've ever had. I would highly recommend her. She does take a while to grade the tests, since they are on paper, and have to be graded by hand. If you do the homeworks, come to class, and work hard you will do well!
Avoid. Exams were impossible. She pretended to care about our success but I ended up with the only C of my life.
She is AWFUL! I legit couldn't pass a single test she complained about my internet on every single one and would give me a bad grade. I finished the class with a 62, and my other math class I made a 96.... Make that make since! I do not recommend taking at all !
She doesn't care about anything else going on in your life. She's not well at explaining what she is doing and uses odd examples for problems that don't help at all. The test are very hard. I would not recommend taking this teacher ever.
Honestly I liked her she gave notes for every unit and reviews. Definitely recommend taking the 16 week course the 8 week is too fast and hard. She drops a lot of minor grades and tests aren't that bad as long as you attend and take the notes.
Overall good teacher and you could tell she cared about her students, she was always willing to help and answered questions when I had them. Lots of homework, and challenging class. Don't skip class.

videos are not always helpful, word problems get complicated quick, with no explanation to be found.
Uses poor problem examples, pearson homework is endless and difficult. Would be nice to actually get an explaination for the problems, instead she only covers the easy stuff. Also uses awful websites instead of excell for tableau's, which looks like its from 2004 and most likely student made. Not a great experience at all.

Proctoring requirements too strict, objective lack of empathy regarding technology issues. Lectures don't explain problems to the fullest extent. You will need to use 3rd party sources to learn some of the material.
Videos are not helpful, you will be relying on other tools to help you learn. She only goes over easiest version of a problem, then leaves you on your own for everything else. AVOID

Honestly, I think the people giving her bad reviews just did not try. It is a lot of material, and you will have to work hard but it really is not bad. I am not good at math at all either. The only annoying thing was that her proctoring requirements were tough. Something was wrong with my camera the first test and she took of quite a bit of points.
first exams got poor grades due to "camera and computer issues" despite her not telling me specifics. This made the class extremely hard to pass with how the exams are weighted. peasron hw is lenghty and not always similiar to her lectures. Will work if you are good with math, avoid if not.
Lots of homework and insane proctering requirements. Dont waste your time and effort getting your camera angle perfect, just for it to "glitch" and you get points deducted. Not worth the time and energy, get a different professor for a 1000x easier class.
I have never seen a college professor have such insane proctoring, you will do bad on at least 1-2 of the exams for unknown technology issues. 0/10

I struggle w math but I took her class online & she was the best math professor I ever had. Her lecture vids explained stuff well & she taught shortcuts I'd never seen. There are lots of assignments, but also some extra credit. Taking exams in person helped a bit too. This isn't a class you can neglect. Put in effort, do the work & you'll be fine.
