Dr. Neff should be a requirement for graduation! She is so powerful and understanding. Teaches a whole new outlook on our country and people in general. Having an open mind helps and the experience can be life-changing.

Here is the most HONEST opinion of her. She is very knowledgable when it comes to African American Literature, however she is the most Liberal person I have ever met! And she makes sure the students know it! Makes the lectures tense at times and uneasy.

Neff challenges students to think for themselves and to develop as individuals. Some classes may get a bit tense, but that challenges one's comfort zone and promotes learning. Wonderful professor and caring human being.

This woman is a true God-send to EMU. I have never had a class in my life, that inspired me the way Professor Neff taught. Powerful. She can tell a story like you're right there. Do the work, take notes, quizzes, etc..You'll receive an A.

pay attention and hold on, it's a great ride. She doesnt hate anyone except ignorant people. More than ten times she scolded the Af/Am students for not paying attention in class. Not a man or a white basher, just ignorance. You desrve what you got.

She's one of eastern's greatest teachers. She will open your eyes no matter who you are.

Her class is very easy, and very interesting. However, you have to take everything with a grain of salt. She can go off on tangents and rant about the white oppression. After she does that, she's usually fine for the rest of the class.

Her rants are acceptable. Most people are quite uneducated on the things she speaks about. She is a BRILLIANT woman and I absolutely love her class!! If you keep up with the reading you are sure to do good.

Dr. Neff was one of the most inspirational teachers I came across while attending EMU. I credit my own teaching methods to her; while she sometimes lets her opinions get in the way of her grading, she is a very good person and instructor. I learned alot from her, and am glad I took her!

Dr. Neff can keep my attention like no other, she know's her stuff and makes you think. I would deffinately recomend her. My only problem with the class is that she is very liberal, and I'm not.

I thought she was really good. Offers a lot of extra credit, tests are really fair as long as you go to the lectures. She made all the works very interesting and you learn a lot.

The best prof I've had at EMU! She's liberal and opinionated, which can rub some people the wrong way. The books are pretty easy reads, so if you're fearful of taking a literature course, this is a fairly easy one. If you go to all the classes you'll surely get an A.

Seriously one of the best professors on this campus. She will open your eyes in so many ways, and she is a wonderful lecturer. She is a brilliant woman and has so much to teach and offer her students.

What can I say. I loved her Af Am Lit class, made many good friends from that class, incllude=ing her. I still make time (6 years later)after only having her once, to go to her office and talk. She is willing to help you out if you need it in her class, or in life. She is a wonderful, brilliant woman, an intellectually stimulatin profesor and a great person to have in your corner. She really sticks up for what she believes - As it should be!

Heather Neff will change your life! This woman knows her stuff! She will inspire you everytime you enter her class. She is very direct about what will be on her test and holds many study sessions by her SI leader and her GA. This class is the most amazing class I've had at Eastern by far. I would recommend her to anyone!

The best professor at Eastern,probably in Michigan,she will challenge you to think,and she doesnt discriminate on any topic,she will tackle it head on,and will say and teach you things that people wouldnt,but really want too.She is a great professor,and she makes you want to come to class.The exams are straight forwar and the extra credit helps too

I love this professor. She is a bright light in the Eastern Community and I urge everyone to take her for at least one class. She is helpful kind, knowledgable and so interesting and read her books too! Fantastic!

She is a great teacher though I wish we read some other books than her own. She is very opinionated, and I think sometimes offends white, conservative male students. However (as a white woman) I think that part of our population deserves a little negative attention sometimes. They need to hear what other social groups think.

THE best teacher i have taken at emu. her class is designed for students to succeed not like a lot of other class sit around a are given what's right in the book.

Explained things well in class. The books are a must, and there is alot of reading to do. Tells you this on the first day of class. Most of the books were written by her. Does not go over the books in class, and the majority of the test is based upon reading. MUST READ!!

My favorite prof. Is fun and the only one that manages to keep me entirely awake through the entire class.

Class was fun and prof makes it very interesting. She is fiesty and loves talking about controversial topics. She offers lots of extra credit. Must read all texts. Exams are staight forward. Being active in class helps a lot. Definitely recommend this class and prof!

Amazing teacher. She'll move you and inspire you to want to learn. The classes I've taken with her were wonderful. I highly recommended Dr.Neff. You need to go to class and read the books, they are great, though.

This was my second class with her because she was so easy the first time around, but I cannot stand the woman. Don't make a comment or she'll shoot you down, but complains that no one talks. Received some award for OUtstanding professor, that's a lie.

Dr. Neff is a great instructor, her comments about African American culture may offend but she says the truth, she is smart, funny, and does not like rude students, she will call you out when your late, "Be on Time"

She is passionate about what she teaches and her lectures are just that, passionate. In her senior classes, she allows for creativity and free expression. A Wonderful and beautifuly minded person.

Dr. Neff is one of the coolest professors I have ever had. She keeps it real all the time whether you like it or not. She's very wise and not only teaches you about literature but about the world. Her class is fairly easy but you must come to class and take notes if you take excellent notes you wont have to do all the readings

Kept me awake at 8am. Lectures were sometimes more like rants but pretty informative. Try not to disagree with her out loud unless you like confrontation. Hates tardiness but attendance not taken. Lots of extra cred. available.

Just graduated this December from Eastern. Professor Neff is the "only" professor that I will remember that provided an atomosphere condusive to learning. I have thought about issues that she brought up during class to this very day. Outstanding professor!

Dr.Neff was a very helpful professor. She offered extra credit, and they exams were not hard at all. If you miss a lecture or two, it will not really hurt you. She is one of the best professors Eastern has to offer.

Shes helpfull,isn't to diffiuclt if you read the text, and wants her students to do well. I think she thinks she's great and may trick students into thinking it to. Gets alittle preachy sometimes, can be obnoxious. Not a bad teacher though, take her if your ready for the Neff.

If you teach your own books how can that really be an unbias opinion shes teaching? More like preaching to me, alittle dissapointed she is so glorified.

Dr. Neff is a good teacher who makes you think of things you might have overlooked if you were reading the course books by yourself. However, I felt that her grading was quite easy. All of my papers received 100 percents and I don't really think they were deserving of that. I did work hard in her class, but not for fear of low grades. So easy..

definitely the best professor at EMU. opinionated, which is good i guess. you dont really need to read the books as long as you go to class, but they're very good anyway. if you plan on being a history teacher someday i HIGHLY recommend taking this class. i had the best time and learned more in this class than in any class in my entire education.

Neff is one of the best professors here at EMU. She really gets into what she's talking about, which helps engage the students. Her homework is just reading, which you don't have to do if you attend class, but she doesn't assign anything terrible. She's a wonderful teacher, very likable, and I recommend her to anyone!

Easily the best professor there is at Eastern. I have never learned so much as I have in her class, AND it was easy because it was so interesting. All you need to do is go there and read, and you're fine. Reading is a breeze. She's funny and insightful. TAKE HER CLASS!

my only knock on her is that she had grad assistants reviewing for her tests i personally think its better when the teacher himself or herself goes over test material. but if you read the material it was very difficult NOT to get an A with her. I read the material, went to some SI Sessions and test reviews, and got As on the tests. take her class.

Heather Neff is a teacher that provides an excellent learning environment for students. Her style of presentation is effective in that it provokes thought, and isn't the mundane, boring drone most are accustomed to. However, gave unfair racial preference to me outside of classroom

Love her! Very intersting and classes arent boring. Makes you want to learn more. Homework and exams are easy. Gives extra credit so there is no reason to not recieve an A. Has SI instructors w/ plenty of study sessions.

I can't even put into words how EXTRAORDINARY this professor is. The subjects are interesting, but it takes a brilliant professor to bring it to life and that's what she is. She is extremely passionate and actually inspiring for me in the sense of trying to be a grown, strong, confident woman. Her work brings enough challenge to the table while she is always showing concern for her students and explaining what we truly need in the real world. Dr. Neff is a great instructor/professor. However, she is not easy. In short, You decide/earn your grade. If you don't plan on putting in the work it is best that you select a different instructor. However, if you want to learn/grow Professor Neff is the best in the business. I highly recommend Professor Neff. Great learning experience.

I had her for African American Lit for Junior year of college. It was the best class I've had outside my Major. She was very helpful and very honest. Her bluntness and honesty may hurt feelings, but I enjoyed it. It was a big lecture hall and she still knew peoples names. really read the books, its extra helpful. If you study you will pass.

Due to the numerous amount of extra credit opportunities, this class is an easy A. I failed the first test with below a 50% and still received a B in her class. Try to buy your books ahead of time because you must read to pass the test

GREAT Professor. Dr. Neff is a little intimindating but if you can get over her hard ass approach you will learn that she is wonderful. Her lectures are very interesting and you will need to take ALOT of notes. All you need to do to pass this class is COME TO CLASS ! on time. everything she talks about WILL be on the test. overall, great professor!

She is the gold standard of profs. Extremely helpful and knowledgeable, she is a great person just to know on campus. She'll know if you didn't do the reading, so read all the materials assigned. There aren't enough characters in this box to allow me to express how great she is at educating.

Neff is extremely passionate about her work in proactively talking about the African American community and it's contagious. Don't be an idiot and pay attention and you will receive an easy A and will involuntarily accumulate life advice. Very interesting prof.

She is hands down the best teacher you could ever have. There is never a dull moment in her class. She makes you never want to miss day. There are only three tests and they're pretty easy. She's real cool but she wont tolerate people coming to her class late. But trust me, you wouldnt want to be late anyway.

I took her African American Lit. class and it's actually really interesting and fun to pay attention to. She will answer any questions and is nice just don't be late to her class or disrupt with your phone or by talking. My favorite professor at eastern by far.

Neff is fair and very helpful. She loves when you visit her during office hours, even if it is to say hello. If you go to class and do the readings, it is super easy but if you don't like going to class, don't bother taking this. She is very friendly, just very blunt and straight to the point. This lady KNOWS HER STUFF! Smart, Bilingual, and a pretty descent author. Come to class with an open mind ready to learn and ready to read. I just passed with an "A". She is a little feisty to some students sometimes but, it's your responsibility to stand up for YOURSELF. Her Teacher assists come in handy especially if you are having trouble.

Dr. Neff is beyond amazing. She does not play about her class. DON'T SHOW UP LATE. Sit in the front row. You earn grades in that class. She does not give you anything. She wrote the books so don't try to read spark notes. Books are always available in library. Very helpful instructor. I wish I could take her for every college course. LIfe changing.

Neff is awesome. She is blunt, and straight to the point. Don't be late to her class, and expect to walk out learning something new everyday. She's a boss, and very knowledgeable. A lot of extra credit that could change you're grade drastically. I wish Neff was my instructor throughout my life.

So with her you either hate her or you love her. I just so happen to love her unedited, uncensored way of teaching you that let's you now that you are not a kid to be babied. She is passionate about what she teaches. Form a study group and divide the reading you'll manage. There are four papers and for test. It's a very doable class.
