Her lectures are pointless to be at, except that she takes attendance that go towards your participation. 40% midterm, 10% participation, and 50% final. Midterm was open-book, and final we got a cheat sheet. Overall I would take a class from her again, but she is VERY boring.
Mrs Notd teaches an extremely dull justice studies class. The lectures are bland and boring except for the current event discussions. You might as well not come at all. The notes online and textbook are more than enough for an A. She does know her stuff and is very knowledgable in politics. Her anti republican rants are inspiring!
Easy class, can easily pass without attending class. Easy marker on tests and the paper. She summarizes the textbook in great detail in her slides that she posts online so the book is not really necessary.
Took the class because it was mandatory but Heather actually made it interesting - lots of real life stories. She was also very helpful, I'd take another class from her.
this was a very boring class with boring textbooks.
I'm currently taking her JS 230 class, and she is probably the best prof I have had in my three years of university. She has a lot of energy and is very passionate about what she teaches. Of course we are only a couple weeks into the semester but I just had to tell everyone how awesome she is
Attending class is not mandatory but she does give good examples to help you understand the content, the exams are pretty straight forward and if you put effort in to the paper, you'll get a decent mark. She is sometimes interesting to listen to and very outgoing.
Great prof! I enjoyed listening to her lectures, as she is extremely knowledgeable in her field. She is quite funny and likes to keep the class engaged. Do not take one of her classes if you are looking for an easy A... Her classes require you to work very hard for a good mark, but I will still take another class from her if I ever get the chance.
She gave powerpoints, that she literally read word for word. She was kind of a loonie bin, but probably a nice person.. Alsong as you read the slides and textbook you will pass. Take this class, if you are willing to teach your self & write a 10 page paper. midterm35 term paper20 final45
She was very unclear about the 10 pages essay and gave all the details she didn't specify in the syllabus like couple weeks before the due day. It was hard to do the essay because she didn't understand herself what she wants in it. Her TAs were hard to reach and almost all didn't reply on msgs. Boring and stressful class. Exams aren't easy at all
She was the best professor which I have ever had. She teaches with a passion and makes the information super easy to understand and very exciting (no small feat for an intro to Canadian Law class). She spent countless hours with me discussing issues regarding both life and the assignments. Professor Nord became not only my teacher but my friend
I had Heather for JS 100 as well as 230. JS 230 was so great! She was A LOT less boring in lectures. She still stuck to the slides but I enjoyed the class material so much! Textbook isn't necessary. Attendanceclass participation, midterm, paper and final. Heather is pretty loony and it makes class interesting :)
Lectures were boring but allowed a cheat sheet for the midterm and final.
Heather's outgoing energy and passion for justice studies makes it easy to love her class. I found she was a pretty easy marker too. She is great at replying to emails and will lend help if you ask for it. I would take another class from her!
I was worried the class would be long & boring (Business Law). But Heather was happy, funny, & a bit cooky that she made the class fun & the material really interesting. As long as you pay attention in class & read the chapters you will pass. Expect to write for the full 3 hours on tests. Rarely kept us in class the full 3 hours though!
Heater is a good prof. She will make you laugh and talk about current issues. The lectures can get a little boring. I would recommend showing up at least once in a while although the slides are on UR Courses and read the textbook it helps, otherwise it's a fairly easy class! I look forward to having her in the future.
I'm in my fourth year and Heather is one of my favourite profs ever. She is intelligent and has a great personality. You must attend class to pass due to an attendance sheet. She gives difficult assignments but is a fair marker. Please take her class!
Heather is super funny. Very knowledgable about law. Puts chapters from text into slides, so reading the book is not essential. No papers. 2 midterms and a final. Multiple choice, t/f and short answer. Studying for the exams is a must. Understand the big concepts and you will be fine!
I do not understand her teaching methods whatsoever. She does not bother to follow her slides nor does she take the time to elaborate on essentially any topic so you obtain nothing from being present (physically and mentally) in the lecture. This is an intro Justice Studies course, meaning majority of the class is unfamiliar with the material.
Great prof, recommend her to anyone.
Heather is a great prof, talks A LOT, but for one thing she sure knows what she is talking about. She has many real life examples to explain the different types of laws, etc. She likes participation!! In this class we only had a one midterm and final, as well as a 8-10 page term paper on a case. Its super doable, you just have to pay attention.
She doesnt follow her slides doesn't take time to elaborate on topics she want you to learn so you doesnt help for when you write the exams. For a intro Justice I thought there was lots to learn with the different terminology. She was nice, energetic, funny but you had to learn for yourself after class, she is helpful when you have questions
Heather is truly dedicated to her profession. A real inspiration - is able to convey her messages and thoughts like no other prof I've ever came across. Heather is very polite and has a great sense of humor. Cheatsheet allowed for both midterm and final. a 15% essay is very interesting as well. The best prof in my three years of schooling.
Heather truly cares about student learning. She is very fair and can draw on personal experiences to add realism to the lectures. She always welcomes debate and discussion on topics. Assignments were interesting and enjoyable (believe it or not!) and exams were very fair.
Very tough grader!
Lecture's are heavy, and dry. Power Point slides are extensive. I've taken her classes a few times, not by choice but I needed them and ended up with same grades every class. I suggest following her Syllabus verbatim!!!
This is the best prof that I've ever had. I took JS 100 from her. She's so funny and such a colourful person! The lectures aren't really related to what she asks on the exams, instead they apply the concepts from the chapter readings. Read the textbook and learn the material. You need to study a lot but you'll be rewarded for it.
Heather is by far the best prof I have ever had! She is the sweetest lady in the entire world. The only way you will not do well is if you do not study or do your work. She marks fairly and is always willing to help in any way she can. Extremely knowledgeable and overall a good person. Took her for JS 100 as well. Thumbs up!
Heather is a great prof and very honest! The beginning of the semester seemed overwhelming but she tells you exactly what to expect on exams. The lectures are heavy and fast-paced, however, she explain concepts so you can easily understand. You get a cheat sheet for the midterm and final. The textbook is very helpful.
Heather is an amazing prof. She knows her stuff and is passionate about justice studies. Her lectures are jam packed usually but she tries to make them as interesting and easy to follow as possible. Her exams are long but easy if you study the right stuff & she tells you exactly what to study. Her exams are more applied knowledge than memorizing.
This class was probably one of the most boring, dry classes I have ever taken. Heather's slides were the definition of info overload with around 70+ slides per chapter and 20 chapters learned in the semester. You will likely get a bad grade on your papers if she decides she doesn't like you or if you don't give her exactly what she wants.
I took this class life-streamed from home. She just wants you to stay on topic and not ramble on about facts that don't matter. Lots of notes!! 70+ slides each lecture and while I found that she explained topics well, she jumped from slide to slide too much making it difficult to keep up
Would not recommend. Very passive aggressive in class. Singles out students to make them pay attention. Tests are long! Although you are given a cheat sheet in exams there is a HUGE time crunch - which she does not take into consideration when marking.
Heather is a very nice lady and does know her information very well. The lectures and content is very heavy, although that could be just business law in general. The midterm is LONG and difficult, but you do get a study sheet. Assignments can be interesting, but you do have to do exactly what she asked for to get a good mark.
Although the course content is dry, Heather's lectures were really enjoyable. She supplemented lectures with stories about her real life experiences, and welcomed questions from students regarding different legal aspects. Crib sheet for both the midterm and final makes them easy, she has 3 large papers worth a small percentage and marks quite tough
Read slides - use textbook if unsure of some terms. Start papers as soon as you know the subject! She marks hard and they are mandatory - a lot of reading involved. She has great stories!! Tough marker and sometimes gets cranky if you don't do your readings but overall I learned a lot and she is a treat.
I really enjoyed the context of every lecture. Highly recommend Heather Nord! So far my favourite Professor.
She has slides, which are extremely long to the point of being useless as you might as well read the textbook. Slides have material the textbook doesn't have and vice versa making it confusing as to what is needed to be known. You get nothing from being in lectures since she can't even cover the amount of slides and the few she does, she just reads
Pretty good teacher although she can breeze through slides fairly quickly. Slides are posted anyway so its not too bad. She encourages independent learning. She uses a lot of examples that involve current or past news events which make it easy to understand. 2 discussion forum questions, 1 midterm and a final.
Nord is unconventional, a bit of an oddball but fun. I was really interested in Canadian Law so I enjoyed the class but if it's not necessary for your degree skip it. Make sure she knows your name and that you ask questions and you'll be good for participation marks.
Very corky & tempermental. Lots of slides on powerpoints, but don't get overwhelmed, as they are identical to what is in the text. Attendance (10%), midterm (30%), final (40%), 2 discussion forums (20%). Midterm & final were very long & fairly hard (MC, T/F, short answers & essays). Expects you to really understand concepts and apply them.
If you critique her for providing numerous optional assignments that are worth marks she takes her anger out on the class. For example she once started calling names out off her attendance sheet to answer questions. Her powerpoints are 100-200 slides long all packed with information! Making it very stressful to study! AVOID!
This teacher expects you to do everything lawfully where she forgets we are not supposed to understand the case formats. I would definitely not recommend this teacher
Awesome person and awesome proff. She's really passionate about what she teaches, and makes an effort to make the material interesting to the class. The assignments and tests do require some effort, so pay attention in class. But other than that, shes a solid proff.
Heather was a great prof! I had her for several classes during my university career. At first she seems intimidating, but building a relationship and connection with her, made me really enjoy the class.
Very tough
As a lawyer herself, she makes an excellent law professor. Got an 80% on her first paper then grading gradually got tougher. A lot to learn but she is very knowledgeable and friendly! I really enjoyed her class. In the great words of Heather, "Sue the pants off everyone!".
She gets so off topic in class that we never actually end up doing the lesson planned, its a bummer that I have to go to a class where attendance is taken and listen to her talk about stuff completely off topic, then I have to go home and teach the lesson to myself. Shes a nice lady who really seems to care, she just needs to stay on topic
The class is going to a lot of work, but that's more by nature of the content than it is some sort of fault of Heather's. She does have high expectations, but it's because she has a genuine interest in having her students learn and appreciate the history and process of the law. Classes will be enjoyable so long as you're willing to put in effort.
I am an A student but I have to say this class is my lowest grade. Heather is very sweet and funny, but her class is SO MUCH INFO. Her powerpoints are sometimes 100 slides long and isn't clear about what you need to know for exams. She also rarely covers all of the slides but expects you to know it all. Not to mention her assignments are super hard
I could honestly go on a rant about heather, there were often over 150 power point slides for each class, problem is we would only get through around 20 of them because she always got way off topic. I genuinely feel that I learnt nothing going to class and I essentially taught myself everything. Lectures were very boring to the point of sleepiness
Heather is an amazing prof and a very caring kind hearted lady. While taking this class I had several issues with technology and minor setbacks. Heather always went out of her way to correct things for me and assured I was taken care of. She promptly responded to countless emails and never got frustrated or gave up her efforts. If all profs cared..
Heather is an incredibly brilliant professor. She is so intelligent and knows everything there is to know about the criminal justice system. With further experience as a lawyer, she really does know all fields. She's very respectful and wise and loves chatting about current events. She expects you to read the text yourself and know material on own.
You can tell she loves teaching as she is a lawyer. She makes the lecture interesting. Very humorous while teaching in class. However, she forgets that it is your first time learning laws. She expects you to know everything. Very temperamental, tests extremely heavy on midterms and exams. Don't be fooled by her introductory smiles and laugh. Abort!
I love Heather, she is such a kind hearted lady. She was very effective in marking and responding to emails. Her online course was set up very well, she emailed every Monday letting us know what was up for the week and important things to remember. Lecture slides are kind of long since they are from the textbook but it is interesting material.
ZERO grading criteria. She expects students to know as much as she does. NO ruberic, so expect a horrible mark your first forum back. She knows her stuff I'll give her that, but her teaching is sloppy, power point slides are unorganized and no outline to go off of to have a general idea of what she expects is why i will never take her class again.
If you are looking to learn something your choice is simple. Take her. You will be required to do more work than most other lecturers but you come out knowing something. If you are afraid to do more than the norm take some one else.
Heather is a great prof who understands what she is teaching and explains it so well to her students. heather is a tough grader and you MUST study for the exams or you will probably fail. Heather gives great detail into the justice system as she was a lawyer so she understands how hard it can be. Heather is one of the best JS Profs.
Heather is a decent prof compared to others. She has real quality powerpoints made and that is pretty much all you need. It is alot of content and some powerpoints have 120+ slides. She has some great stories to tie the content together. Overall, I would recommend Heather and I have had only positive experiences from her.
Heather is by far one of the best profs I've had. Her lectures are clear, she provides the powerpoints to you. The textbook she uses was easy to read. Assignments marked very clearly and she's super easy to email and talk to! She's very passionate about the subject matter and it shows in her teaching style.
Heather is by far my favourite professor I have ever had. She makes classes fun and entertaining while still explaining the content well. She has a ton of powerpoint slides, but goes through all of them in class. For this class, she only had two forum posts, a midterm and a final. You will need to work for your marks, as she has high expectations.
Im in my second year and have had many profs. Heather is hands down my favourite prof ever. She is so nice in class and makes sure everyone understands the concepts. She is so easy to talk to outside of class and encourages it. She is so understanding as well. She posts a lot of ppt slides so she never leaves any info out for quizzes/exams.
I was optimistic taking Heathers class based on reviews here. Unfortunately, we did not have what seems to be the norm for Heather. She was incredibly rude, expected you to just know what she wanted, and was extremely unapproachable. I would avoid her if possible.
I was excited to take this class as it involves criminal law. However, two days in I was already behind. PowerPoints were well over 100 slides, the quizzes were fine but the midterm and final, you needed to know literally everything from all the readings. She was rude in her feedback and expected us to know how to write like lawyers. Never again.
Poorly projected expectations. Sloppy organization and delivery of course content. Needs to work on improving effectiveness in teaching. The time she expects invested into her course is unreasonable for a full course load and any sort of personal life you may have. Enjoyable personality and interesting lecture interactions.
She is alright. Very intimidating as she is a lawyer. Very straight forward and does not like to speak to students unless nesscessary. Material was interesting. No lectures.
Not easy to get in touch with and when you do, she is not helpful. Has ridiculously high expectations that are hard to meet, and gives quizzes on Sunday nights that you do not have nearly enough time to write. (8 minutes for 10 questions). Sends unprofessional, emotional emails as she sees fit. You teach yourself in this class.-avoid if possible.
Would not recommend this prof. Only had 2 discussion forums, bi-weekly chapter quizzes, midterm. Very unprofessional following a lecture email about how the discussion forums went. Told another class how disappointed she was in our class but then never discussed the situation in class after saying she was still angry and would discuss it in class.
Heather is a professional instructor and a lawyer. She will assign textbook reading and post relevant PPT to UR Courses. Her lecture is clear and logical. She is a tough grader. There is a lot of content to memorize, but we can use a study sheet during exams. Taking her course must work very hard.
Would never want to have this prof again. Tough grader, high expectations for a 100 level class. Super unapproachable when asking questions for clarification on assignments. Id give her a 0 but the content was interesting just was not delivered in a way where it was fun. Id avoid her if you could.
All her PowerPoints are well over 100 slides. Her class consists of bi-weekly zoom meets, where she reads the PowerPoints (she has a very monotone voice), heather isn't approachable, if you email her with questions she tell you to go read the chapter. Heather has quizzes on Sunday nights at 9pm (not her schedule class time) 8 mins for 10 questions
Never take a class with Heather if you can avoid it. She is the worst prof. Her assignments are too complex for a 100 level class. She has the highest expectations I've ever experienced. Her forums are more like a research paper than a discussion. Her slides are atleast 160 slides long, and they are word for word from the text.
Heather expects you to know as much as she does and this is only a 100 level class. Lectures are 3 hours long and she just reads her power points word for word. Very hard to learn something from her classes. Power points are over 160 slides long and just paraphrase the textbook. Has quizzes on Sunday nights at 9pm. Only two discussion forums
WORST class ever! very harsh in grading assignments. You don't even feel that she's giving you the feedback for you to learn. Her feedback feels as if she's fighting you not helping you improve! Lots & lots of info. Each class is around 100 slides, with some being +150 slides. DON'T take it with her! Definitely DON'T!
Try your best to AVIOD her if you can. Super long PPT with +140 slides. Quizzes on Sunday night. The most boring classes, with just her reading slides word by word. When it comes to the assignment, she expects you to do everything perfectly as if this is the tenth time you do it. If not, she gives you really harsh feedback.
I honestly have mixed emotions about Heather Nord. Sometimes she was nice and other times she came off as quite rude. She is definitely a tough grader, and definitely make sure you provide a lot of external research to back up your answers.
She gets so off topic and distracted in class leaving you to have to learn all the material on your own. She just reads off of the slides and beware as each PowerPoint has about 200 slides. She definitely has favourites in the class. She is a hard grader and you need to go far beyond the requirements she gives to get a good mark on an essay.
She gets extremely off topic and does not lecture what she is supposed to. She then leaves you to go through 200+ slides on your own time (for each lecture that she did not teach lol) and expects you to know ALL the minor details for exams. She marks extremely unfairly and does not know proper APA style and makes up her own. Brutal class.
Awful experience, she made me hate the class and my self.
Do not do it. Save yourself.
Professor Nord not only teaches law she also teaches students how to properly cite while doing assignments. I feel anyone who badmouths her did a poor job and got a bad grade and that's on you. Her forums are treated as full assignments in lieu of writing papers. if you read the textbook you are more than prepared for the lengthy assignment.
She gets off topic and doesn't lecture what she is supposed to. She leaves you to go through 200+ slides on your own time (for each lecture that she did not teach). That being said, she is a very kind lady and really cares for her students. lots of slides, pleasant lady, okay marker.I thought I did bad on an assignment but I got a 80, so she's good
Will never take a class from her again. Be prepared its a horrible negative experience.
You have to work on break to finish an assignment full of legal citations. She will ask you to resubmit it until she thinks it is perfect but no change in your grade. 10 chapters for the final and 10 for midterms. 100+ slides per chapter. You should never take her. She is a decent person but not at all a good teacher. Avoid her at all costs!!!!
Super nice and caring professor. One annoying assignment but it's only worth 10%. The rest of the grades were from quizzes/midterm/final- All multiple-choice/TF. Lots of material/content but not too heavy of a workload.
she is awful, no matter how much work you put in or how much you study if she doesn't like u good luck getting a good grade. she has no idea how to teach. She always has the wrong dates and times for midterms and classes and then puts the blame on the student for "not reading the instructions".
I think Heather is extremely unprofessional and rude when it comes to he students. I would rather die then taking another class from her. She was also very unapproachable and mean. Students do not come out of that class with any understanding. Horrible professor.
I actually really liked her, despite the many bad ratings. She was very insightful in her notes/slideshows (although long). She was so kind and motivating in her feedback! One of my favourite classes! I will definitely be taking another class with her!
Difficult to get marks
useless quizzes and very hard to get marks.
Heather is extremely knowledgeable and kind when you can communicate with her one on one. The issue is this doesn't always translate into being a good professor. Her work load is intense and her assignments are set up in the most difficult way for simply no reason. I wouldn't recommend her since there are many other great profs in this area.
She is horrible. Does not make sense when explaining something and does not have a clear point. Her PowerPoints are 100+ slides (which you need to read on your own because she only gets through a few). You can not ask her questions without her being patronizing. Randomly gives you large assignments the same day and quizzes. DONT take her classes!!
Kind, seems to genuinely care about student success. Gives hints during lecture about what will/won't be on quizzes. Available after class if students have questions that they didn't want to ask in lecture. But lectures are boring. There are 100+ slides and it's hard to stay engaged when it goes on and on. Also...she makes you keep your camera on!
She is awful.
Heather is awesome. She is very accessible and has never failed to answer a question I had thoroughly, in fact, she once went through an entire forum discussion with me (it was at least 10 pages long) and explained every mistake I made.
Marks really hard and it is impossible to get a good grade in this class. Avoid if at al possible.
Very long PowerPoints that you end up responsible for as she gets off topic during lectures. Tough grader, leaves unpleasant comments on work that are not constructive. She can be confrontational if you ask questions. A few positives are she does gives hints for term exams and allows a study sheet. Take with a different professor if possible.
The professor is an extremely strict grader, and her demeaning remarks demoralize students. Although we are all undergraduate students, the lectures, examinations, and assignments are highly demanding, and the professor has PhD expectations of us.
Her PowerPoint presentations are lengthy, with around 130 slides. She often veers off subject and discusses her personal life, which no one wants to hear about. When we submitted our papers and did poorly, she would make derogatory remarks about everyone. Her feedback is pointless because it is all full of harsh comments. AVOID IF POSSIBLE!
The powerpoint slides are insanely long, as she only goes through a bit and gets side-tracked into her own personal life. Her papers are beyond a 200 course level, as she expects you to write and cite as a lawyer would. When you send her emails, very condescending unless you compliment her, and belittle your own self. Do not take this class.
Do not trust her if she says she will not test you on something. . . unfair grading system . . . gets off track in lectures and tells you to read the rest of the 100+ slides on your own time. This ONE class is the same amount of work as THREE regular classes. She is not willing to change.
She is hand down the most amazing prof. If you are looking to learn something she is the one, we need more like her. she truly is amazing and puts so much effort to ensure we learn something. I admire her.
rude prof. useless quizes.
death does not scare me anymore.
Worst prof ever seen to mankind. Would rather drop out than take a class with her again. The most egotistical and most selfish person ever who could care less about her students. Will insult you in the worst way possible in the given feedback and will love those students that are her pets and belittle themselves for her. Avoid her at all costs.
BE AWARE! DONT TAKE A CLASS WITH HER Bring a pillow to the class so when you lose consciousness your head wont slam on your desk. And bring a pillow for your pillow because your pillow will fall asleep too. You must be under her leash and ready to bark for her in order to pass the class. Nothing that came out of this woman's mouth ever made sense.
Heather, although tough, is an amazing professor. She has lots of experience, and uses her own experience to draw on her lecture points and information from the text. She also provides PowerPoint slides with very specific detail that was covered in her lectures and the text. I would take a class from Heather whenever possible. Also is flexible!
this shordy is actually wild. worst grader, an awful person, spends the whole class talking about useless stuff just to make us read 100+ pages on stuff we could've read in class. save yourself the torment and don't take her class,
AVOID AT ALL COSTS - CONDESCENDING RUDE UNPROFESSIONAL IN EVERY WAY POSSIBLE. JUST DON'T TAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She is a beautiful person and quite interesting, however she goes on tangents daily that have zero application to the content. Her quizzes' are on Sunday night-very inconvenient. She is a tough grader and her assignments felt impossible.
This prof uploads 150 slides or more each week that you have to cover. The written assignments are not worth much towards your grade, but take so much work. I found her to be extremely impatient and not greatly understanding when I had conflicting commitments at quiz times.
The worst class I have ever taken. She made me consider dropping out .
The most strict Prof I have ever had. Very difficult to obtain a good grade and would not take class again.
Heather Nord is the worst professor I have ever had. Her quizzes are on 200 slide Powerpoint's but have only 10 questions on the quiz (with no review). Her quizzes are on Sunday's at 9 pm, which is very inconvenient. Her written assignments are impossible, she belittles you when you ask questions. This class seriously made me consider quitting uni
I very much liked the course but not the professor. Dr. N was confusing as one minute she would be understanding, and then the next she would be showing no compassion. Know that you will feel you're in law school if you take a course with her and prepare for tangents and boring lectures with 200 content-heavy slides per chapter.
Dr. Nord is an okay online professor, but she certainly does not do a lot to make life easy for her student, i.e. Her lectures are 200 slides per chapter filled with a crap ton of content, and she does nothing to break it down to make it clear. Her quizzes are fair, and her assignments are very time-consuming and challenging.
Although she gave ok feedback for our assignments, it was all very vague and felt impossible to get a mark that was above average. Her quizzes were Sunday nights which were horrible and her slides are absolutely ridiculous. The class was honestly a joke, she was super rude and made it impossible to be able to memorize that much random info.
Her slideshows were massive. Minimum 100 slides, usually more like 250 slides. So much info to memorize and there was a test every week. It was a very heavy course load but I think she did the best she could. I would say take this class, but know it won't be an easy coasting class.
Wow, just horrific. The most stingy professor I have ever had. The lectures were not engaging and nearly impossible to keep up with, with the 200 slides and unrelated tangents. Class atmosphere was awful and you could tell that each student was on edge. If you think you know how to write, no you don't. Would never take a class with her again.
Heather is a wonderul person and a wonderful prof - 10/10 made me feel like Harvey Specter from Suits
Great prof
Do not cooperate
She's so rude and no corporate with students, and she's a tough grader and didn't gave good grades at the end I dropped her subject.
Heather's class is a challenge, but using Unstuck study alongside the textbook helped me stay on top of the dense lectures and assignments. The workload is heavy, but the material is interesting if you put in the effort.
