She's young and still really learning about teaching. The midterm is hard, but she goes over everything in class. The readings are all covered in class. One big writing assignment that's very clear and she is very available for input on it. A take-home final of 3 essays. In all, I would recommend her. She is an interesting lecturer.
She's still new, but she means well and she's really willing to help you out with anything. You don't have to do the reading, because she totally covers it in class. Kind of a hard grader, but she's nice. Overall, I recommend ehr.
great class!!! heather is very helpful! the readings are kind of long but i never read and got an A in the class! lectures are exactly from the reading! the midterm was hard and there's a field project requiered but it's easy! i HIGHLY recommend her! did i mention she's hot?!
Do not take her!
Heather is nice and very approachable! She is still new and can be a bit confusing at times but overall she is really sweet. No tests for this class so if you like writing then take her for 360.
Dr. Rae-Espinosa is a great instructor. She is always willing to help you understand the subject matter and inspires you to think outside of your context. If you want to be inspired, take this professor! Lots of writing is included into this class, but it's well worth it!
There are ten 2-3 page papers and one 5-7 pg. paper but there are no tests! She gives points for attendance and participation.
She is so cool! I love her! READ!!! She goes over the readings in class, but you don't get the advantage of the summary if you haven't read. Read everything and study and you'll do fine. She's awesome!!!! I would def recommend her.
NO TESTS. many 2-3 pg papers due, but not too difficult. Class may seem confusing in the beginning, but she makes things more clear as the semester goes on. Dont be afraid to ask her questions, she is always willing to help. Final paper is pretty easy, she goes into full detail and gives examples before its due. Try to keep up w/ reading.
She was a great teacher and really fun to listen to. Make sure you do the readings and participate in class. No tests which was great. A couple of pop quizzes, but she would give you the question the day before and they were really easy. Be prepared for a lot of reading and writing though.
I loved this class. Heather is a really good teacher and she is very helpful. She definitely gives you, your monies worth.Don't let the first day scared you, it's not as bad as you think.Alot of reading, but she explains why. STUDY,STUDY, STUDY, for the test.
Professor puts on a good facade of trying to pretend she is nice so don't be fooled. Inconsiderate at times by keeping you late after midterms, etc.Would have not taken her if I knew what I know now. Maybe it will work for you.
Nice teacher yet she curses alot. She thinks it cute, but some of us would rather not hear SH** all of the time. Readings are challenging, you have to work very hard in this class.
Heather is a great teacher. The first day is a little scary but she's just trying to weed out the people who are lazy & don't want to learn. Do the assignments and actually TRY to learn & you should do fine. She's always available if you need help. There is a lot of reading so if you are illiterate or lazy don't take this class.
Professor...is okay but can be very hard when it comes to grading essays, participation counts big time! Lots of reading and writing involved. Good Luck if you have to take this class. Only good thing NO EXAMS!!!
Horrible teacher...one of the worst i have ever taken a class with. Class was extremely boring, and her attitude is unprofessional. Good luck asking for help because I was unsuccessful in all my attempts. Wish I never met her!
I think that Rae-Espinoza is a great teacher. You can see that she truly cares about her students and wants them to understand the material. It is a hard class and there are lots of writing assignments but only 2 pages for each..The material taught is really interesting! Prob my favorite class ive ever taken!
Heather is a great professor and knows her stuff. She is completely clear with what she expects from the begining of the semester. She is honest with how she grades, and goes way beyond to help. The lectures in her classes go in some awesome directions, and she puts an interesting psychological-anthro slant onto the material. A must take!!
The BEST prof I've ever had. Yes, lots of reading and writing, but I think I've learned most in this class than any other I've ever taken. She is very helpful. Very approachable. She has lots of useful knowledge to share. =)
NOT APPROACHABLE! We were guinea pigs for a Calibrated Peer Review(CPR) website. It was an electronic excuse & means for her to not be understanding of her students. SHE LIED TO OUR CLASS! Said she'd never lower our grade from the CPR website, only raise it, if need be. She lowered MANY grades in the class...sometimes by more than 4 points! Beware.
i loved her class. yes we were guinea pigs for CPR, but it helped me understand the kind of paper she expects by reading others. She wasn't using this to get out of grading our papers because she did grade our papers. I realized that if she had taught her class the way she used to i would have gotten a B and not an A. She's wierd in a funny way.
Her teaching style isn't organized but she thinks it is. She's spazzy and not approachable. U're forced to take her class as a HDEV major...but u'll make it. She'll try to **** you w/the CPR website. She said she wouldn't lower our grade only raise it...well she lowered some assignments by 5pts! It's out of 10...thats substantial! Glad to be done!
90 hours of internship as per major requirements. This is the 2nd time I had her. Have to say, she's my fav HDEV Professor. 470 with her was VERY ENJOYABLE!!! It's an easy class anyways, she just made it fun. [[I just graduated! =) BYE PROF RAE-ESPINOZA!! THANKS 4 EVERYTHING!!!]]
If you know how to write like a college student should, you will do just fine. Only thing I didn't like about CPR is reading other students work who couldn't write well...frustrating. I only attended about 1/2 the classes but did well on my essays and got an A. Learn to write to get a good grade people!!
I hated this class! CPR was the worst program I have ever used. Even if you are an "A" student, you will have a really hard time even passing her class. Just doing all of the reading, participating in class discussions, and writing the essays does not guarantee you a passing grade. Too bad that she is the only one teaching the class!
She assigns a loooot of reading and substantial writing projects but as a Capstone that's to be expected. She comes off as aloof but she is really approachable. Tough class but not horrible. And her nutty-ness is fun to watch.
I had her a while back. I enjoyed the class. She was organized, never changed anything she said she would do or wouldn't do. She made class fun. She was very approachable and willing to help-she replied to emails which not very many professors do. She's quirky and hot. I would take her again and would recommend her to anyone!
Not a "gut" professor but fair and very interested in students who want to learn
The class is a lot of work, but if you do everything you will get a good grade. It's a lot of writing, i hardly said anything all semester and i got a B. it seems like a lot of work and its over whelming the first day, but in the end it was not that bad.
Lots of work, but if you are capable of writing at the level you should be for an upper division student, you'll be fine. I had no stress whatsoever about this class. :) This teacher is very funny in lecture and kind off the wall, but it makes it worth it to come to class!
I was looking forward to this class. However, I can honestly say I didn't learn anything over the entire semester. You basically only have to read what you have to write on. I would've received an A if I would've attended more and participated more. CPR was a struggle at first but stick with it and you'll be ok. Not awful, just dissapointing.
Great professor. I found her lectures to be really interesting. make sure you participate! it's not an easy class and the readings could get really tough, but the CPR is nothing to worry about after the first few times.
Someone described this professor as pretending to be nice. TOTALLY. I explained that I had 2 majors at the beginning of the semester and that i may be a few minutes late sometimes and her response was "thats ok u lose a few points but i dont judge"..however she went off on me when i asked her a question. Shes evil. stay away. Plus CPR SUCKS!
the worst professor I ever had at csulb. not understanding, very black & white expectations. absolutely no late assignments. completely unfair grading, expectations confusing. participation/attendance is mandatory. if you are not an A student/total go getter, you won't pass. try to avoid and take another professor.
Worst professor EVER! I don't understand how she's still teaching. She is NOT helpful, and her GRADING is UNFAIR. I wish I took another professor. She's one of those teachers who ruin a student's motivation to do well in class. I suggest avoiding her class. Take another professor.
Class is hard work. Intense writing and quizzes. Her quizzes can be confusing because of the way in which the questions and answers are written. Take this class if you are prepared to work hard and think critically. If you care about your gpa I would not take this class. She is a difficult grader, but you will learn a lot.
She covers so many interesting topics. It is hard work, but I took it in summer session and actually stayed interested the whole class time. Assignments for 180 are way easier than what I have heard they are for 307I because it's a 100-level class. I recommend, especially if you are a major and want to be well-prepared for later courses.
She is a great professor who keeps you engaged in the topics she covers. I learned a lot from this course even though I took it during winter in a 6 week session. As long as you read the articles and do what is asked of you, this is a great class. The articles that she assigns are very interesting and never boring. I recommend her and this course.
Great class! Interesting lectures and the class fits together towards an overall goal.
Fair professor. No textbook needed. Online articles to read and 7 online quizzes related to the reading and lecture. MAKE SURE YOU DO THE READING. Record her lectures. They help because she may go over something quickly and you can miss important info/key words. She's not mean
The class itself is not very interesting as she moves very quickly to get through each unit. She tracks attendance and participation. Her assignments may be unclear at first but she is always willing to help. Don't be afraid to ask questions, she's actually really nice and helpful. Just keep track of your reading and you'll do great!
Great class. I learned so much, and now it's all coming together at the end. I have friends in other sections and I think I've gotten much more useful info for the future with Dr. Rae.
Dr. Rae's class was great. It helped me a lot. I enjoyed all of the reading and lectures, because it was always interesting. I love that she made attendance and participation mandatory because it made me try harder. I highly recommend her class to any HDEV major.
Reading & writing (upper division level) is fundamental to do well in class. Dr. Rae is very knowledgeable and passionate about her field. The class was a lot of work but manageable. I just didn't like the CPR, it was time consuming having to read & evaluate other's essays. Make sure to participate in class & READ! It really counts.
She Knows what she's doing ! Her lectures are on point ! (literally) Always power point and is very clear in what she explains. If you need help she will try her best to help you understand ! Her quizzes are easy and they're take home !
LOVE HER! she is an amazing professor, really passionate. probably one of the best professor on at csulb. amazing lectures- not long not boring. would definitely recommend her to anyone!!
Best teacher so far. No exams Simple 7 quizzes through out semester With essay. If you do readings & go to class take good notes no just from her power point , ( readings are long but really interesting to read ) you will always pass quizzes. You don't need to buy book , she puts readings on beachboard. Attendance & participation points

Multiple small quizzes, all online, all open note. Take good notes and you'll be okay. In class, you don't need a textbook, but you need to read what she posts on beachboard. Written essays are easy to get an A in. Overall, easy class.
This is a pretty easy class! As long as you take good notes and read the assigned articles, you should be able to do very well on the quizzes and online activities. Make sure to come to class and try to talk at least once for participation points.
Interesting class, but gets side tracked easily and gives very vague instructions about the asssignments she gives. Good class because it is interesting but definitely a challenge.
She's a nice lady but most of the time she is a little all over the place with her lectures. She's helpful during office hours. She likes it when students participate and she gets really into class discussions. The quizzes at the end of each unit are more about analyzing what she said because it's worded differently from lecture/powerpoints.
This class can be overwhelming since there is a lot LONG readings and theres A LOT of quizzes that are back to back! Not an easy A. You have to work for it! The quizzes can be very difficult. Pay close attention to every lecture; because the quizzes have random facts on them. The professor is really nice and approachable!
I honestly don't know why people consider her quizzes to be difficult. I never read the entire article when they were assigned, and I never struggled with any. I wouldn't recommend that, but it should at least emphasize how simple they really are. I thought the class was an easy A. She's also hilarious. I actually looked forward to going to class.
Professor Espinoza really knows her stuff and is pretty specific to what she wants on her essays. articles that you have to read may seem long sometimes but the online quiz questions aren't specific. would definitely recommend this class for an easy A if you have little to some interest.
This class was not too hard/not too easy, and I do admit the final tripped me up a bit. Her lectures can get awkwardly personal, but she seems very nice and intelligent. The writing assignments paired with the 4 quizzes made no sense. Overall, the class tries to fit in way too much information into one semster.
There is no textbook for this class, she posts research articles that can vary from 13-20 pages. Don't lag on the readings. She has an attendance roll which she passes around every lecture. Don't let the reading discourage you from taking her, she is so sweet! She wants you to pass! Super nice when I went to OH. Super pretty too!
I LOVE DR. RAE! She wasn't supposed to be my professor but there was a mishap in the beginning of the semester and she became my professor. She explains her powerpoints thoroughly and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask because she is very willing to answer questions. 6 quizzes and 4 online activities that are SUPER easy!
This is by far my favorite class. She gives you 5 points for attending class which helps your grade and will motivate you to actually go to class. All test and quizzes are online. The day of assignments & quizzes there is no class. She explains everything so well this class is impossible to fail.
4 two page essays, and 6 online quizzes that are fairly easy. Go to class everyday as her notes are not posted on beachboard and participation matters. Class is very an easy to get an A, only problem is she goes off topic way too much which might confuse you during her lectures.
I loved her class. she was clear on what she wanted on her assignments. if you try you will pass, but if you want an A you will actually have to read all her assigned readings and participate.
I seriously love Heather-Rae Espinoza! She is such a sweet lady! She is very specific to what she wants to see in her class and does not like slackers! Follow the syllabus, show up to class, participate, and take notes and the class will be a breeze!
Great professor! Hands down the best lecture class I have ever had. Keep in mind that attendance is mandatory and equals up to 150 points, but she makes her class very interesting so you won't even mind going! No textbook to purchase because it is available online (bonus). You won't regret getting her!
She's hands down my favorite professor this semester! Not only are her lectures easy to follow and her quizzes/online activities simple; she keeps the class entertaining! Be sure to take notes of everything she says + her power points and read what's assigned for an easier time with the quizzes. Attendance and participation is mandatory.
This class was my favorite! She really knows what she's talking about and makes class enjoyable. The class is split up into units and after each unit there's a quiz which is multiple choice questions then a written responce. No textbook, instead articles are assigned and that is what the quizzes are based off. Really easy class if you try!
She's super nice and caring. Even if you ask a dumb question in class, she'll re-explain. I love her and her daughter is so cute! Read the articles and work with other people on the quiz because it helps :) It's an easy class as long as you try and go to class! :)
I'm a good student and I love being a human development major, but heather makes me question why I'm pursuing this. She made it so boring, her lectures aren't interesting. She thinks she's mom of the year and constantly talks about her kids. I couldn't wait to get out of class
Honestly, one of the worst classes I've ever taken. She rambles about a lot of useless stuff and doesn't often address the actual things she tests on. The lectures are insanely boring but if you miss one day you miss about 15 pages of notes. Her personality is awkward and hard to get along with.
Never rated a professor till now. This professor was great for the first 2 weeks, but then the lectures become long and boring. The lectures were useless because they were used for tests. Also the feedback received from papers were not helpful. "Bad paper" is not a good way to give feedback Try not to take this class, there surely is a better one.
I was always stressed about this class. This 100 level class was more work than any of my other classes this semester. She didn't post any of her lectures online and I was always confused about assignments. She's a kind person, but not a very good teacher. She assigns way too much reading and is often not clear what she wants.
She is really nice and cares for her students. You have to participate at least once before the next quiz because participation is graded. The quizzes aren't too hard if you do the reading. You have to pay attention to what she says because she doesn't always put it in her PowerPoint. She likes to talk a lot and likes when the students ask her Qs.
This professor is amazing! She really interacts with her students. She will test you on the readings she assigns. Go to class, participate, and read! Consists of 6 online tests, last two are w/essays, 4 easy papers, and that is it. Easy A, but I slacked off. At the end she curved my grade from a C to a B and I love her for that!
Super cool and down to earth professor. Her class is not tough at all. You have to come to class because quizzes are based off her PowerPoint which she doesn't post online. The quizzes are not hard and there is easy essays that go along with them. As long as you do the work you'll pass the class with no problems. Highly recommend her class.
Great professor, clear agenda and grading. Her lectures get you involved, she gets side-tracked a lot but is sweet and refocuses. Feels like a "family-style class" since you ask questions and share real life examples. NO TEXTBOOK NEEDED! Took this class for GE, and it was definitely worth it. Learned a lot for day-to-day life!
One of the easiest classes I've ever taken. She is very clear on what she wants from you. There are four online activities (essays) and six online quizzes (last two have essay questions). She is very funny, but tends to get off topic sometimes. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you should show up as she doesnt post her lecture slides online.
I freaking LOVE Prof Maristela! She is very sweet and makes classes fun! She makes sure everyone is understanding the material before moving onto the next slide. She does not require a textbook in any of her classes since she knows how expensive they tend to be. She is passionate about her job and it shows through her lectures!
This review is based on the Online class; Dr. Rae is very articulate on what she wants and will deduct points off journals. 2 Readings each week, Discussions or Worksheets/ 1 Paper/ 1 Pamphlet. Assessments/Test every 3 weeks. Test are a little difficult it is only worth 6 points. The class is out of 100 pt so every point counts.
Definitely isn't a good prof for an online course. You don't learn as much as you want to, because is based on peer reviewed journals. She has no ppt or supplemented materials. She's very specific about what she wants, but does not provide exs or guidance on how to do it. She's too broad on her assignments. She'd better at traditional classes.
She's a great teacher, and I honestly enjoyed her class. Participation and attendance does matter so show up. There's a lot of reading that is needed when taking the quiz. The quizzes are online though and there's small essays due at the end of each unit. Rae has a great personality and she is really funny. The oversharing is the best part lol.
Take her for an easy A in the class. Six online quizzes including the final and 4 online activities (5 paragraph essays). She grades easy and her quizzes are based off of her slides. Participation is important, she tracks you every class. Big chunk of your grade. She's kind of boring, but if you can look past the boring lectures, you can get an A.
You are graded on 4 online essay assignments(5 paragraphs each), 6 quizzes which you do online, and attendence and participation. She's a little boring and her jokes are a little dull, but overall she's an ok professor. She gives feedback for the essays. She also gets off track a lot and then suddenly rushes things.
Her lectures are straight-forward, despite of her going off track sometimes. There were 4 online essays and 6 online quizzes. Participation and attendance are mandatory in order to receive points. Overall, she goes into detail of what she expects from your essays and also puts the lectures online, which helped significantly.
This class was my WORST college experience! She is very inconsistent with her grading, which makes it hard to understand what she wants out of your work. She is rude in her emails and her exams are impossible to pass. The class would average on them under 50%. You are being warned to take at your own risk.
Not a horrible class, just be ready for her disorganization and poor communication. Typical week: 2 article readings, one 250-word journal in response to one of the readings, a discussion post + replies, and either a quiz or worksheet. One 5-pg. paper, final is 2 pamphlets, an easy group project. Syllabus/deadlines don't match up, frustrating.
This class was fairly easy. To explain some concepts, the prof. shares stories of her kids . A lot of people dislike the prof. for going off tangent sometimes during lecture, but these were my favorite part of the lecture lol. The class was enjoyable and attendance is mandatory for easy points.
Professor Rae-Espinoza only has articles to learn from she does not provide any powerpoints or information from her knowledge. Her grading is inconsistent so you do not know what to do to improve for next time. There are reading journals every week which are obnoxious. There are 4 exams 12 questions they're difficult. I reccoment another prof.
Don't take her, she is very unorganized.
I liked the stories, they helped me pay attention and understand.
Worst experience at CSULB you've been warned
She was by far my favorite professor I've ever taken. I never left class without a smile or laugh because of how engaging and inspirational she was. Her lectures were ALWAYS so interesting and there is no textbook needed. All the articles are such informative pieces of material that impact our greater perspective of life overall. TAKE HER!!
My favorite professor by far. The class wasn't hard at all. Class is split up into units and after each unit there's a quiz which is multiple choice and then a written response. Lectures were great she makes the class enjoyable and is so sweet. Final consists of two short answers and multiple choice questions and is not cumulative. Take this class!
My favorite class this semester! The professor is very thoughtful & thorough with her lectures. She posts the readings & recorded lectures onto BeachBoard. Your lecture notes are important & helpful on quizzes & essays. The readings will be explained during lecture, but it is helpful to read beforehand for your own understanding & participation.
I would and wouldn't take this class again. At first, I had so much difficulty taking her quizzes because her questions were challenging. But she gives A LOT of time for you to do it. Go into office hours they will help. DO THE READINGS and take notes during her lectures.
Dr. Rae was great. I wish our course could have been on campus, but her lectures were either way amazing! I feel like I learn useful information as a human. Also, she is always accessible and gives great feedback!
The essays are easy if you take good notes, theres a late Dropbox if you ever need it. Tests are open note and on BeachBoard. Lectures are pre-recorded. She's available if you email with questions. Make sure to post in the discussion boards and get your participation grade out of the way, so you don't have to stress about it later. Workload's fine.
Listen, lectures are good yet, she is a super intense grader. For the online activities I was able to get good grades, yet her feedback would be insanely vague and she doesn't allow revisions. She also gave up halfway through the semester and has you figure out when to do the assignments on your own. She makes you read these long articles be aware!
I will admit she is very thorough in her lectures, but she does also add some irrelevant personal information here and there. The work she assigns is doable and not that challenging, but she is pretty strict when it comes to grading. Even then her comments about the assignment are vague and not at all helpful. Overall she is an average professor.
very nice but grades hard! 4 units in total, each unit includes 1 online activity, 1 quiz & a few discussion posts per unit. info was really interesting, but you must take notes on the lectures! readings are long, i advise you to read the last few pages instead of the whole thing. about 2-3 weeks per unit, make sure to manage your time wisely!
Prof. Rae-Espinoza is such a sweet person but beware of taking her classes. She will give a lot of readings per week and her lectures are also from 2019. There is a total of 4 papers in her class and she will not take any late homework but she will give a 1 late hw after that there are no excuses. I regretted taking her class :(
there a lot of readings that are pretty interesting but they are VERY lengthy. lecture videos are from 2019. she is a very tough grader on the online activities, but she grades easier on the first online activity. wouldnt recommend if you have other classes that are time-consuming.
This is a 100 level course but it doesnt feel like it she made it harder! Dont take this class you are warned!
This class will be easy for you if you are good at writing!!! She is very kind and understanding. If I was able to take a class, she instructed I would. Time management is vvvv essential when taking the course. You are able to use your notes and go back to lectures during quizzes.
Is it necessary to grade so difficult in a level 100 course? This is my first semester at CSULB and I absolutely regret taking this class. I spent SOO much time ( 3times the amount of effort) in this class just to fail, versus my other classes which I passed with A's. I try to ask for clarity, was just given a very vague response. Don't take.
This is an asynchronous class so there was three hour long lectures per unit. There are initially four essays that count for online activities and the multiple choice quizzes are difficult if you did not do the work. Make sure to proofread and add in enough information to make sure you get as many points as possible. It is not done last minute.
Honestly extremely tough grader for a level 100 class and very vague on feedback. A lot of her responses when I sought out further feedback on how to improve were borderline rude. Not willing to work with you unfortunately so be prepared to figure out how to improve on your own.
Ms. Rae-Espinoza's HDEV 180 course was entirely online so the lectures were pre-recorded. The lectures were insightful but they should be updated because it was hard to hear the comments and questions made. The feedback she provides is helpful and straight forward - she's accessible outside of lecture hours too. Would take Ms. Rae-Espinoza again!!
Every unit requires an essay and she provides very minimal direction and even if she does give direction it's very unhelpful. If you try to look at the rubric for directions or even directly on the assignment tab itself it's all blank. Her feedback can also sound quite rude at times and extremely passive-aggressive.
Cons: Lecture heavy class with poor note slides, does not know how to use most classroom technology, there's an essay assigned each unit, vague/unhelpful feedback on work, not very structured, assignments are not clear, and Espinoza often gets sidetracked. Pros: No textbook required, no midterm due to the 5+ essays, and class often gets cancelled.
Easy class. Just write good essays and you'll do good (she is very clear about what she wants in her essays so writing a good essay shouldn't be a problem if you pay attention). The quizzes are easy since she's okay with you going back to the lectures and readings. She also front-loads the class so that we don't have to worry about it during finals
Dr. Rae-Espinoza is very straightforward and her class is on the same schedule, 3 days of lectures then a day off to complete your quiz. There are 7 quizzes in total which are easy since you could look back at your notes and recorded lectures that she provides. There are also 4 online activities which are 5 paragraph essays and there is no final.
This was Prof Espinoza's first time teaching this class, so it was a little chaotic. You could tell she was kind of figuring it out as we went. So it was difficult to follow her sometimes. I think we got a little lost throughout the writing process. But she is very supportive of our efforts!
LOVE HER!!! Her personality is awesome although she does get sidetracked but I find it keeps me interested in her lectures. I took the class online and she followed the same schedule of each unit consisting of 3 discussion posts, a quiz, and short essay. She provides so many resources and opportunities so you'd have to try in order to fail.
She was an awesome professor, loved to talk to us and I enjoyed that, even though sometimes we got off-topic, she would jump right back into it! Sometimes lectures feel heavy, but her slides are super helpful and simplified. Not work heavy, and fairly easy homework with a good amount of time provided to complete it, and provides good feedback! :)
Interesting class, very reading heavy. Lectures were informative and useful on the tests, does venture off the slide. Read the articles for each unit because they will be discussed and questions regaurding the reading will be on the quiz. As long as you do the readings and do good on the units (3 articles, quiz and an essay) you will be fine.
I love Proessor Rae-Espinoza! She genuinely cares about all of her students and is so passionate about adjusting and adapting the curriculum to developing social standards and student needs. Class is relatively easy. 4 1-2 page essays of your choosing. Class is recorded and uploaded to canvas. Participation/attendance is graded. Highly recommend.
i took dr. rae this semester and honestly i would not recommend it. i only missed one assignment and my grade went down to a C from an A. she grades weirdly, nit-picky about answers, and very vague when giving feedback. she also inputs zeros if that assignment isn't accounted for which makes your grade drop. take someone else if you can!
Lots of quizzes and essays. Her grading is super confusing. Would not recommend
nice enough person but her understanding of canvas is awful. i wouldve been at an a if she had actually put in grades into her gradebook and understood how canvas worked. just unneccasery stress
My first winter class went well, the professor was kind and understanding, especially with the shortened term. She was flexible with deadlines and offered extensions without penalty. The course included 22 discussion boards(respond to 15 for full credit),7 quizzes, and 4 five-paragraph essays.Honestly worth taking the class, just have to stay consistent.
This was the worst professor I have ever taken. Her grading is unclear. She provided nothing but critiques to assignments with no positive feedback. She was incredibly rude when asking for assistance or explanations for grading. DO NOT take her class.
I had very mixed feelings about this class. As a professor she's quite nice & her lectures weren't hard to understand but as far as grading goes and attendance-it was quite confusing. Her grading on essays made no sense to me, and although the lowest grade I got was an 82 out of all four essays, the criticism felt nit-picky in a sense. Do not skip!
Writing this so no one else has to go through what I've been going through this semester by taking this class. I know this is the only prof that teachers this class at csulb but do yourself a favor and take it somewhere else. The professor is rude, grades unfairly, and is not clear on instructions. Worst class I've ever taken.
Probably one of the worse professors I've taken. She's ever strict on her essay grading and instructions are unclear since she barely goes over it. Her grades start from 0 so you have to build your way up as the semester goes. If you take this class make sure you're extremely good at writing or you'll not pass.
Overall, she's okay. Based on purely taking this class online, it's easy enough to deal with. Your grade starts from 0, and you earn credit and build your grade throughout the year. It's an easy enough class online, but she's a strict grader for the papers. She gives specific feedback that's helpful at times, but she comes off as rude during it.
You have to write a paper based on a unit we did. If your not a good writer go to the writing center and learn to make topic sentences/ect. other than that its a really easy class. If you take it in person, you could also just take it online because attendance is based on discussion post or actually showing up. Super easy class. Quizzes open book.
You build up towards your grade. 4 essays (per unit) gives back feedback, quizzes (short articles & based off slides she goes over in class + open notes), discussion boards (can be ANYTHING related to what you learned) for participation points! Easy to gain those points even if u miss class. Def one of my fav professors! I really enjoyed this class.
She is a good professor but is so tough on grading essays. She gives very unclear instructions and if you don't understand well then that is on you. If you ask for clarification she will just repeat the same bad instructions she already gave and is not helpful. She does give you the chance to rewrite but her due date for them is unclear.
Funny&overall kind, emails back within a day or two. Discussion points are easy, you just post and reply to 15 out of 22 boards (both for online and in person) Fairly easy quizzes, open note. Tough essay grader, though once you churn out 1 or 2 essays it'll become more easy as the class goes on. Feedback on essays are pretty vague though.
Had her online, but she was really nice. You start at 0 and build your grade up from there. There are 4 main units with 4 essays to write. She gives well-intended feedback but can come off as rude and nitpicky. Discussion posts help build up your participation credits. By week three, you get the structure of the class. Take her if you want! :)
