well she is a very nice teacher and she knows her stuff i personally wouldnt take her again for a class but she does make the class interesting with giving examples of today the only thing i hated was that u would have to watch the news & say what u have seen in class & just that was worth 30% of attendance if u want a good grade study read read
Her political stance ruined the class for me. She said she wasn't going to tell us where she stood, but it was obvious and it made the class seem like it was about her personal opinion of the government. She is biased!
She has a very abraisive personality. Her attitude stinks. I did not feel comfortable asking questions in her class. Your grade is based on tests, quizes and how much you participate in class. There were no assignments or papers to count towards your grade. Read all the chapters assigned because the notes in class suck.
she isnt that bad of a teacher her class is not even that hard the only thing that u have to do is read the chapters and understand them cuz then the test r going to be easier on u i wouldnt take her again personally, out of 36 only 18 were there til the end not an easy class at all but she is nice
Was a great class, and very easy A if you do like the 3 assignments all year and find one little thing that happened in the news for points for class. Most people would just say who won in a sports game, it was easy. Tests were easy as well, if you in class alot you will cruise through. Shes cool too, she younger and easy to relate to
Get your money’s worth and end up with a good grasp on Am. Gov’t by chosing Heather as your prof. She’s sweet, fair, patient, entertaining, always willing to answer questions and won’t tolerate any BS. Pay attention, take notes, heed her advice for using the online website and you’ve got it made. I’d love to have her as my professor again.
Great teacher, good personality, humor and spunky. I hated the class cause I have no interest but it's required. I had online class with lecture 1x/month. She responded in a timely matter to DB ?'s and graded quickly. Tests were really hard but you HAVE to read the chapters and spend a lot of time studying.never belittled students.
I hope you like to read.. because thats all this class is about. She is pretty cool and the classes are not that bad, but i hate government and reading stuff i am not interested in.. so this was not a good class for me personally
I found the discussion interesting for a class i did not want to take. She is very opinionated though and I found her last exam to be nothing on what she said it was going to be covering. Study hard, especially with the weekly readings and quizzes and pay attention in class and you will do fine.
I think she is absolutely a horrible professor. I worked my tail off for her class, she is one of those professors where what she says goes, only based on the fact that she is the professor. She will not work with you. She is quite rude honestly. She is very unreasonable with her grading as well. Do not take her class!
She is an awful professor. Very rude and opinionated. She is her way or the highway! No matter how respectfully I asked her to explain why she graded the way she did and if I could get extra credit, she was unwilling to work with me. I did not appreciate the way I was treated in her class at all. Do not take her class!
Loved her class lectures. However, her exams were often different than she said they would be. I found her weekly online quizzes to be tricky. I wouldn't take her again as teacher, but Id love to get a beer with her and argue about politics.
Not recommended-at least for her online course. She wasn't much help, and I found my self struggling the whole semester. Exams are tough.
I don't know why everyone is hating on her. She is a great teacher and expects her students to act like college students not high schoolers. Read the chapters, take the notes, and study and you'll be good. She doesn't push one side or another but rather teaches that sides do not matter, this issues do.
She is very passionate about politics. That being said she loves to talk about a lot of things but I felt I didn't learn very much. MAKE SURE YOU READ THE TEXTBOOKS. Her lectures just cover briefly the material she uses on her tests. Her tests are very difficult unless you read the book. She is very helpful if you have questions.
She is terrible at communicating, which is vital in an online class. Her instructions were confusing and bare. Her tests do not have anything to do with the reading material. The homework is also impossible. MyPoliSciLab is a ridiculous way to do homework because the half the questions I was not able to even find in the book!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
Worst online class I've taken. There were no discussions on the text, yet the tests were based on "critical" thinking. I'm a B+ student and enjoy gov't, yet I failed most of the tests.I don't know which answers I got right or wrong.Class may have been easier if not online.I was hoping for lots of interaction in this class, but there was none at all
Professor Richards makes the class interesting by tying into current events and teaching both left and right wing views. Although I failed most of the tests because they are difficult, I still enjoyed the class overall.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS, especially online. There is ABSOLUTELY NO interaction on her part. The only discussions were about the online current event lectures you must watch, and she NEVER participated. With NO discussion of the bookmaterial, tests were impossible and quizzes are tricky. The book is your bible for tests, STUDY the charts and graphs!!
She doesn't cover material that will be on the midterm or exam. She can sometimes rant for an entire class period and you learn nothing.
Professor Richards is one of my favorite professors at GRCC. She is very funny, but she can also teach her classes very well. She also wants you to truly understand the concepts of the subject, not just learn the answers for the test.
Believe what you read when you read that shes abrasive, rude, and biased. I maintain a B+-A grade and this class not only because it was online but because of the prof. Has ruined my gpa. She hardly communicates and even when she does it leaves much to be desired. I wish i had read these prior to enrolling.
The class was pretty straight forward, I did not like the way she treated students. The discussion board for any questions felt very hostile and was awkward to read even online! Very unwelcoming. I hate politics yet, the material was fine. A different teacher would have helped greatly.
Terrible, her tests don't cover the material assigned. She barks at students when they ask questions online and she seems non availble for help.
Good teacher, but she's pretty tough. Miss a deadline? Too bad, she doesn't budge often and is pretty tough on students figuring things out themselves. She'll help, but you have to try multiple other avenues before she'll help you personally.
I suggest AVOIDING this class if you can. Seriously. This professor, is BY FAR the worst. No interaction and RUDE for no reason. How are you a professor and just rude? What you give off is what I give back! Period. I observe a lot and the way she spoke to other students, was ridiculous. Passed with a B but NEVER again!
She doesn't give clear directions . Doesn't grade right , wrote a summary paper on a conference we had to attend , and she gave me 40% just because . Definitely don't take her !
She will lecture for hours , & you won't understand anything . Her grading skills are poor & is rude . Doesn't like to help , & gives test over stuff that was not covered . DONT TAKE HER !
The worst prof I have ever witnessed. Doesn't explain anything. Never tells when things are due. She's way off her rocker. Unfortunately when signing up for an online class you cannot see to teaches it until the start date.
One of the worst teachers I've ever encountered. She goes over only a section of what's on the exams. She lectures 99% of the time. READ YOUR TEXTBOOK because she will not go over everything, and her exams are difficult. Try to get another teacher if possible.
Easily one of the worst teachers I ever had. Do not take her if you don't have to. She lectures the whole class hour and then you have a test. Test is NOTHING like the notes. NO STUDY GUIDE. No wonder people were failing her class. Horrible attitude and uses a lot of profanity. I'm surprised shes still a teacher.
I took her class online, and she was not much more than someone to grade my work. I had very little interaction with her, except when I forgot to do an assignment. She will not budge on her syllabus, so make sure you do what you need to. If you can do your work, you'll be fine. Don't expect any hand-holding.
By far the worst professor I've ever had
Professor Richards was one of the greatest teachers I had. If you want an easy grade with no work involved do not take her but if you want to learn, she is the prof. to have. She will not hold your hand, but if you need help she is there for you. Be ready to read because class is for lectures that relate to the book. Great learning experience!
Professor Richard is an outstanding professor. Her expectations are clear; you are an adult, act like it, read the material and be prepared for class. This class was very tough, but very thought provoking. If you are a serious student and would like a chance to dig deep in current issues, take this class. Be prepared to work.
Had her for an online class. I feel pretty neutral about her. Be careful when studying and make sure to study all learned material and not just the study guide! She seems nice and responded quickly when I asked for help. She did make us take our two big semester tests in person which sucked. Otherwise she was good for online class.
AVOID HER. She doesnt give homework, so your grades are all tests. Her tests are HARD. Study guides are confusing. She adds questions on the tests that weren't covered class. Uses a lot of profanity. Very opinionated. Comes off as rude & scary. Doesnt ever seem like she has time to help. Never came so close to failing a class until I took this one
Intelligent and knowledgable instructor. Tough grader with high expectations but also passionate about the subject matter. So hot.
Having her as my professor was a mistake. I should have checked here first. The instructions were not clear, she was slow to respond to emails, the test covered more than what her study guides said, the discussion posts about that weeks chapter do not prepare you for either of the 2 tests. This is a teach yourself class without any lecture video.
Worst professor in PS201, She grades you on the Online portion of the book then tests you on the exams, which do not correlate well with any of the information from the quizzes and book reviews. Best advice? Avoid her like the plague, she is one of the worst Professors I have ever had, and that is not to say I did not work hard.
Took this class online. Was the easiest class I have ever taken.
Seriously a terrible teacher. Worst I've ever had. She teaches nothing but expects us to know everything. Discussion Board posts are graded extremely harshly. AVOID HER.
Totally unreasonable. Not a teacher. Expectations are far too high for lower level class. Not at all helpful. Rude. Feedback is not encouraging. She should not be teaching.
Very few opportunities to show your skills Graded on very few assignments Literally just Discussion Board posts and Exams Tough grader Not very helpful
You are only graded on tests. The tests are more like exams because they cover so many chapters. She rants way too much, and talks about things that aren't even on the test. She can be funny at times, and she is really knowledgeable. She just should not be teaching!!! The tests are extremely hard, even if you do all your outside reading.
The worst Professor I have ever had. Took her online class and all it consisted of was reading a super dense textbook and taking a super hard exam every 4 weeks downtown. The only other way to earn points was by doing 2 current events each week. These had to not only be about the chapter, but couldn't be a summary or an opinion. AVOID THIS PROF!
I took her PS110 class and I thought she was really kind. Her tests could get confusing bc of the way she worded it sometimes but they weren't too bad. Politics isn't an easy subject to learn but just jot down notes in books and all of her white board and power point notes.
She is the hardest professor I have had. Her tests are extremely difficult and she does not care if you are doing badly on tests. Half the class dropped by the middle of the semester. She cares about her students and wants them to succeed, but it's more of in a tough love way. I learned a lot, but don't take this class if you're expecting an easy A
DON'T TAKE HER!!
I would not take her if I were you. She grades you like you're in a level 2 class. I am taking Business Law which is a level 2 class and it is easier than this general education level 1 class. I usually do very well in all of my classes and this class was NOT easy.
Took this as an online class, easily one of the worst I have taken. We had a TOTAL of 7 assignment (discussion post) and 3 test throughout the entire semester. If you messed 1 small thing up on the discussion post you automatically got a 0. The test must be on campus even though it was an online course. DO NOT TAKE, FIND ANOTHER PROFESSOR
I think many people do not realize that government is not an "easy A" subject. read the book at least 2 hours a week, and understand the material, show up everyday, and go to class on a full stomach. You should pass with an A. I did none of these and got a B. Class is not for milk-drinkers.
Terrible class to take online. I am usually an a student and I got a c. The teacher is COMPLETELY unresponsive if you try to reach out to her for help in the class. She is worthless online. You teach yourself and the tests are insanely hard
This was a summer course so very condensed. The study guides are useless, just read the chapters required and you will do okay on the tests. Some of the documentaries we watched were absolutely pointless as it had nothing to do with chapters covered, just furthered a left wing agenda. Overall its a tough course, but college is tough.
Richards is very good at what she does. She is opinionated in politics but is very informative and knows a lot of facts. Her tests are mostly T/F so you have to really pay attention to the question. You get to use notecards for the tests. To pass the test, follow the study guide sheets she passed out. She is hilarious and has a good teaching style.
Professor Richards is not the worse professor, but is not the best when it comes to preparing you for the tests she gives. If you dont put in the time to read the chapters assigned for this class you will not do well on the tests. The chapters have so much information in them so I suggest setting aside 2-3 hours a week for reading. Best of luck.
Its easy to succeed in this class. The only grades are attendance and test grades. With that said, this is the worst college professor I have ever had. She is incapable of staying on topic, she fails to stay politically unbiased, shes very dramatic and judgmental, she treats her students like high school students. No laptops or phones allowed.
She's very knowledgeable in the aspects of politics and government, she also tends to put her own opinions on the subject at hand, so biased. She isn't clear on hw, or tests, or essays for test especially(deal breaker). She is not accessible outside of class, no email or phone call. She's funny sometimes, depends on mood.
I got really sick and missed one week of class. She claimed I missed two weeks and dropped me from the class. I contacted her and she said I should not be talking to her about it, which GRCC told me to talk to her. She did not let me back in. She said the first week did not count.
I dropped her class within the first week. She is rude to her students, unhelpful, and extremely left sided. Her list credible sources are far left based and not factual and students are only allowed to use those cites for their essays. You cant teach a class of adults that way. GRCC should investigate her. Her ratings are not good.
Prof Richards is brilliant. You wont find another prof at GRCC who is as dedicated to students as her. She is incredibly knowledgeable on the subject and keeps class alive and interesting. If youre looking for a prof to hold your hand, look elsewhere. This is college. If you want to pass, you need to show up to every lecture and do the reading.
Very politically opinionated and will let you know what she thinks. Yet she is very honest in grading no matter your political alignment.
She doesnt really care about her students. The only advice she can give is do the study guide! I go out of my way for help, and its the same reply each and every time. Plus, it would be nice if she actually told her students when class was canceled
I took her class online so I never had any in person interactions. She seemed very rude in her responses to students online and was not very helpful when needed. Overall, lots of work for this class but it is doable. Two exams: midterm and final. You HAVE to read the book for the discussions so if you aren't into that, DO NOT take this class.
Not the worst class but the worst professor I've had during my 2 years here. Rude to her students and despite trying to reach out to her for help, she's unresponsive in her emails. If she does happen to respond, she's condescending, unhelpful, and fails to address the questions asked. There are better political science profs at GRCC.
She works hard to ensure students do well - adjusting the syllabus as needed, dropping assignments if she feels the class is too far behind and graded on a curve. She can be distracted easily, but usually when someone in the class is trying to distract her as they know this. She is extremely smart. There is a lot of work but I would take her again.
Her tests were the most confusing things ever. She worded them weirdly and most of the questions were definitely copied and pasted onto the test. I would not take her again because she got off the topic and barely scratched the surface of what you needed to learn. She mumbles a lot and does not respect your opinions. Waste of my time.
Most one sided tacher I have ever had in my life (politicaly) If you enjoy leftist propaganda and being lied to, shes your gal. I hadn't learned a single thing about American government all year, all she did was complain about Trump. She quite literally endorses unconstitutional actions, in a GOVERNMENT class
I cant attest to how nice or mean she is b/c I took the class online and never really needed to speak with her. I will say she is fair, if you put in the work or if you are lazy your grade will reflect that. The class is based off of several discussion board posts and 4 tests. You have to read the text book and do the study guide in order to pass.
She makes the class hard she does return essays back in an appropriate time to see if your doing them right or not. I do not recommend this professor
Professor Richards really cares about her students and always gives good feedback. The structure of the class/ assignments are very clear and straight forward. As long as you keep up on your work and follow the syllabus, you will do well in this class.
I took this class online so I can't really say what kind of person she is, but get ready to read anywhere from 60 to 100 pages each week. She did drop an assignment and give us an extension on a test when everyone did poorly on the first one though. The tests are kind of hard with the way she words them, so read carefully!
I took her class online. She basically just signs you up for a computer program that coincides with the textbook and leaves you to it. She doesn't give you any additional information regarding the material. Her tests are confusing and hard to study for as well because she doesn't say what will be on them, it's up to you to find what to study.
Professor Richards is arrogant. She wont hear any idea or opinion that differs from her own. She doesnt give feedback or communicate in a timely manner. Ive learned more from independent study than I did in her class. Any professor who cant critique the establishment shouldnt be teaching government. Dont give her your money.
I was so excited to take this class and expand my knowledge of the American Government. Professor Richards greatly disappointed me. She will never EVER respond to emails and she is not compassionate whatsoever. Even if you study a ton, you will not do well on the tests. She puts no effort into making assignments. In fact, she never teaches. BAD!!!!
I had her for an online class. I didn't read the textbook, but studied off of the mindtap activities we did. You WILL need the book with the MindTap login. We didn't meet or have a lecture, but that was where the attendance. Your grade was split into exams and MindTap homework. She was also pretty understanding when life happens.
Very rude and unresponsive. She does not care how you do in her online class, and if you reach out to her over email expect around 30 hours before you get a response. The tests are extremely difficult and are absolutely nothing similar to her "Study guides" she hands out. If you reach out expect little help other then " just read the textbook more"
This is by far the worst professor I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. She is rude, condescending, unresponsive, and most of all DISORGANIZED. I took a 7-week course, this turned out to be difficult due to her not posting the assignment she wanted completed. DO NOT give her your money. She does not teach and when she is forced to she is rude.
Professor Richards expects that you read the textbook to teach yourself then assigns only busy work that does not help with learning the content. She takes weeks to grade but gives no feedback. When emailing/asking questions about an assignment, she takes several days to respond or responds hours before it is due and is not thorough at all.
She was amazing! I did not want to take this class, because I did not like American Government. She turned that around I love studying it now. easy to follow class do the reading, show up, and ask questions. she makes it that simple, she is real with you and tells facts. would take any class she is teaching.
I took this class online in a 7-week format. Grades were comprised of BB essays and 2 exams (a midterm + final). Biggest downside was that no study guide or practice quizzes/mindtap/etc were available to help prepare for the exams, which each cover 6 ch. BB assignments were 500+ words each, but very clear expectations made it a breeze. Effort A.
It is hard to understand the requirements of this class. She seemed to contradict her own syllabus. She claims she welcomes unbiased opinions, but based on how she grades the topics you write about and how you express your opinions, that is not true at all. I did not want to take this class at all, but it was all that was available for electives.
Prof Richards is very narcissistic and full of herself. You can tell she thinks shes the smartest person in every room she walks into and it affects the way she teaches. Shes also unreachable outside of class and, in the very rare chance that she responds to your emails, shes condescending and doesnt give clear instruction. Dont take her.
She. Is. Awful. Here’s a list of things Richards did while I took her class: 1. Changed the syllabus not even halfway through the semester. 2. Filled out rubric for the first week of class but after that she got lazy and didn’t fill out the rest 3. Made tests hard to understand 4. Took five days to respond to my email and responded back rudely
While I do see where other students may think she is unfair with her teaching I do think she does care about what it is she teaches, just understand that it is her class and she will hold you accountable for not doing the research that goes into her class. It can be challenging but I do believe she makes it just as rewarding.
Professor Richards grades like you're meant to be held accountable. If you're overthinking what you're doing, ask your peers. If you don't do the reading that's *your* fault. Ask her questions and get to know her. She loves what she teaches and never failed to make lectures interesting. I definitely recommend this professor for a challenge.
Professor Richards is an amazing person. She brings amazing discussions and lectures. She's really understanding when it comes to her students and is a talented and talkative person when it comes to what she's really passionate about. She's really big on reading the textbook so spend time reading it because she does test you on the chapters.
Really enjoyed Professor Richard's class. As long as you are active in discussions and do your research and homework, you will be fine. Some are saying she is biased but she tells it how it is and backs it up with sources and statistics.
A lot of students dislike Professor Richards because of her intense and fast-paced nature, but I think her classes are incredibly valuable as she is just a wealth of information and ideas. I consider myself lucky that I was able to experience her State and Local Politics class, it was one I always enjoyed going to, for I knew I would learn a lot.
so biased, and only likes the libs. will bring up conspiracies about Republican politicians that aren't true. Her class is pure comedy because she is so flustered every time. class isn't hard, but if you don't agree with her opinion don't talk in class.
Heather Richards is, without a doubt, one of the least effective professors I have encountered. Her class is riddled with inaccuracies, unfounded theories, anti-China sentiment, and an overwhelming amount of criticism towards Donald Trump. On the rare occasions when she does attend class, she is habitually tardy or visibly distressed.
I took this class Online and could still feel how arrogant she was, she forces you to write a paper completely bashing what she likes to call "Right Wing Extremists" and makes in very clear she leans left. She went on mini rants in emails and assignments about Donald Trump, Republicans, and China and bragged about completing her 2nd master's degree
Good professor, just wish emails were replied to more often when I had questions about assignments and such. Discussion boards are heavy but can be done if planned out accordingly
Very poor at giving feedback to students. HARSH grader. I about failed this class. So unless you have time to actually study. I DO not recommend.
Professor Richards does not deserve her position. Refuses to help any of her students and gives no reason as to why things are marked down. She's full of herself and responds to emails with an attitude because she thinks she is better than everyone. 7-week class has strict requirements, if any are not followed expect a bad grade. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!
Tests are 100% true/false questions taken randomly from textbook some without relation to the topic of the class. Gives you no help in any way. Doesn't explain anything so you miss key details in assignments & get an F. Atrocious with online stuff. Doesn't keep her word (not giving assignments she said she would). No helpful feedback.
While Prof Richards can be a bit opinionated, her class is manageable if you stay engaged. The workload is heavy, but using resources like unstuckstudy alongside the textbook really helps. Just don't expect a lot of flexibility on her end.
Never respond to my emails about help, I asked for a study guide she vaguely told me to read the book, there is no guidance for this 7 week class and I don't think imma pass. 100% do not recommend
Don't take this professor - you will have tons of pointless handwritten notes that you will not get to use as she hints to, expectations are confusing and frequently changing, and it's clear this professor is distracted by her academic pursuit rather than being an effective professor. Trust me, don't take her class.
She had nothing to do with this course. Just copied and pasted everything from a textbook, including review questions. The only thing she did was set up a Canvas page and write up poorly worded, often subjective, quiz and exam questions. Never once answered one of my Emails. Very frustrating to have such a lazy professor, who clearly does not care.
Do everything you can to avoid taking this professor's class. She ignores emails and student feedback and speaks about triggering and disturbing topics at length with little to no warning. She does not care about her students and is an incredibly harsh grader. She is a narcissist and bully and should not be teaching. Do not take this class.
Embarrassing for GRCC that they even have her on staff. She refuses to provide study guides, grades papers off imaginary rubrics, and clearly gives no care for her students. If I bought the textbook and just read it on my free time I would've learned the same amount as taking her class. Don't waste your time and money on this professor.
By far the worst professor/teacher I've ever had. She refuses to give any study guides because “the chapter objectives are the best guides” yet 40/50 of the questions have no relevance to the objectives. I don't believe anyone could have rated her a 5, and when reading the reviews it's clear she wrote them or at least one of her friends.
Worst experience in my time at GRCC. Never had a professor with such a lack of respect for education or care for students. Can tell she is abusing tenure.
