Looks a little like helen hunt.If you get lost within the first two weeks or even the first day drop the class. It only keeps getting harder and then there is no going back. you can only get her notes if you give her a zip disk. expensive!
She is ok in lab. She is funny and helpful, and she covers everything really well. The practicals are a real big help, and as she said, study them and you will pass. She reviews with the class, and gives you review practicals, which was really helpful.
Dr. Smith is clear and fair. She has a webpage with study guides and help. Her notes are in the library or she burns you a CD. She is one of the best instructors I have had at RCC!

Not really hard, you just have to pay attention, and be attentitive of every detail she goes over because it'll be on a quiz. She has a great laugh that will keep you otherwise interested in the class. Very light hearted, and is always willing to help.
Prof. SMITH ROCKS!!! This is seriously such a fun class! Heather keeps her class interested in Biology by extracting brocolli DNA, inflating latex gloves on her head, singing Jimmy Buffet songs, and much much more. To sum it all up...HEATHER SMITH RULES
Ms. Smith is a good teacher and keeps the class laughing. She gives notes in class and you can also get them from her webpage. Some of the work is a little hard. Imagine the tests!
Heather is a fab teacher. If you have no interest in biology but have to take the class, she makes you enjoy, even the thought of goet to class. After taking her class the world around seem changed to me.
Highly recommended! Helpful, attentive to questions, understands that all students are not bio majors, tests can be easy if you go by study guide, and practice labs. If you dont like biology this teacher can understand and will help you delve into biology... good luck!
she really cares about her students. just do the reading and STUDY!!!! if you do that you will be fine. just remember it's not easy, you really have to work for it but you will learn more with her than any other teacher.
Really cool teacher, but hard to follow at times. She is funny and likes helping students out.The library offers CDs for students to tutor them. I liked that her powerpint presentations were on the internet and available to print. Very Helpful. Dont fall behind or you will never catch up.
Lots of fun! She is an excellent instructor. Usually very clear in her explanations if not just ask her to clarify or explain it again and she will without a problem.
great class. but she is fluctuating in her expectations of student understanding her class material
Class is fun and if you do the reading and some review you will have no trouble. I would also recommend you take her lab because I took it with someone else and he sucks.
Shes a pro, what else can i say?
Amazing teacher. She keeps everything interesting and still you somehow feel one on one with her in a class of 100 students. She has a sixth sense for when the students just aren't getting it and points you in the right direction if you are willing to put in the effort.
She's a tough cookie but makes the class interesting. You really need to know the material in order to succeed. Hardly any homework, so the tests count more! If you are a bio person, it will be hard for you but not because of her, she makes it more enjoyable.
Truly caring and human professor. She lives and breathes for her students. Has a marvelous sense of the understanding of Your understanding of the course and of text. Brings to light, in each single class, the applications of the study in real life.
Dr. Heather takes a difficult subject and makes it about as easy to understand as possible, and she makes the class fun! She clearly is an advocate for her students and wants them to succeed. No tricks or hidden questions on tests. I highly recommend taking micro with her!
Hard class! But then again, that has nothing to do with the teacher. She makes it as easiest as she can, but it's still difficult. Don't have your cell phone on in that class because she'll give you a pop-quiz. lecture is on power point. she's funny, and she makes it fun.
One of the hardest classes I have EVER taken!! She's an AWESOME teacher.. she's extremely funny, loves to tell stories, laugh and joke around.. her tests are EXTREMELY hard and you need to study your butt off for this class. but HEY.. it has to be hard.. who wants doctors and nurses around who didn't have a challenge in college??
She wasn't as easy as i thought she would be. However, she was a really interesting professor that i feel that i learned a lot from her. I remember what i learned in that class and i had her 2 quarters ago
Very interesting, knowledgable professor who is willing to take time out to help you whenever needed. The best professor I've ever had.
She is cool! First thing she told me was, She likes drugs and she likes plants. PSSTT, She surfs too?
best teacher Ive ever had! Some people are born to work with and help other people. That is Doctor Smith. Take her class, youll change your mind about science :)
Dr. Heather is very nice. She is knowledgable, funny, & sweet. Her tests are difficult. They are a tool of trickery, rather than a tool of learning. If testing is difficult, don't take this class. Attendance & participation don't count. Lecture grade is based on test scores. Dr. Heather has difficulty getting down under her Ph.D to the new learner.
Excellent teacher. She is a very cool teacher. She explained things with drawings and light humor. She is very dedicated in her field of teaching. Test were made by the students and for the students (~85&)
It is true Dr. Heather is very dedicated to her field, and she is nice. But if the tests are made by the students and for the students, why is there a 70% drop rate? Something to think about.
Hey - she is awesome! I took genetics, and it looks like you took micro. Isn't micro supposed to be difficult? No wonder you are having problems!
Her quizes have a tendency to be very in-depth. Not sure I'd take her again. Tough teaching process. She will make you laugh in class, tho. Overall, not bad. Would definitely recommend Burchett.
WHOA! What a ride! Toughest class I ever took. Fair exams - need to know your stuff. One of the nicest people on campus. THis class needs to be tough. The best compliment I can give her is she prepared me for the RN program. Thanks doc!
This class is tough with a capital T! No doubt she is a wonderful teacher! But it takes a lot of self-discipline to get a good grade in this class. Daily reading, taking notes and studying, also known as being a good student, haha. She is awesome and I recommend her!
Made the class a lot of fun, very informative
Dr. Heather is very humorous, sharp and puts a lot of effort into making students feel comfortable in class. I took her for both lecture and lab and she was always very engaging and trying to foster interest in the sciences. I hope I'll be lucky enough to take another of her classes. Just remember to do your reading and you should be fine.
She is very bad! She makes it so hard that more then 1/2 the class drops. She is also not accessible, and treats her JC students like Grad students. A truly horrible experience, DO NOT TAKE HER!
I took her for Micro--it was awful! From what I have read here, students from Bio have a good experience---Micro students do not and always comment about it being hard. I wonder why she apparently teaches differently?
She should be teaching a graduate class. Her class is way too hard and I am a very serious hard working student. I don't think one person in the class is getting above a "B" this semester.
What class were you in? In my micro section, there were lots of A's. I got a D on the first exam, but by the time we did the case studies, my grade shot up to a high B. She is so willing to help you, just dont complain to her. She is SOOOOO patient - except with the whiners.
dr. smith challenges you and wants you to learn. her tests arent tricky, but they make you think which is good and bad because her tests arent really easy. iif you dont want to be in the nursing field or PA then dont become one..because you have to learn this stuff not just take the easy way out. its not impossible if you work. i worked & got an A.
all i can say is that shes nice..the class however is very hard..lectures are confusing..tests are impossible..she thinks shes teacher medical school..unless you are a rocket scientist..i suggest another teacher...
She's a really hard professor. You won't get an A if you are not a biology major. BE AWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She is a nice teacher, but she is REALLY hard. She is not clear about any of her powerpoint. And she wants us to study the review sheet before the exams, but there is nothing relate to the exams. So, don't take her if you want a good grade!!!!!!
FREAKING HARD TEACHING I VE EVER SEEN
Dr. Heather is awesome and Beautiful. take this class, it's tough material but she is a great teacher and you'll have fun.

Really nice teacher. she funny and really cares about her students, however her class is really hard. The material is hard enough but she doesn't help at all. She didn't show any of her slides at the beginning of the semester she just doodled on the computer a bunch of notes and when she did show the slides she zipped through them.
Great instructor! She really knows her stuff and wants you to know it too! The perfect class to get you going in the right direction, if you plan on a medical career. After this class you will know whether or not that is what you want to do. Not easy but not impossible!
Awesome instructor! She kicked our assess into gear midsemester and showed us that we could really do well if we worked hard. My score doubled once I did the exam reviews! Now - I dont feel stupid about science.
PROBABLY THE BEST TEACHER IVE HAD AT RCC...HIGHLY RECOMMEND TAKING HER FOR BIO-1...HILARIOUS AND WILLING TO HELP HER STUDENTS IN ANY WAY SHE CAN...AND SHE DOESNT TEACH RIGHT OUT OF THE BOOK (WHICH IS GOOD) LIKE MOST TEACHERS DO...THE MATERIAL IS HARD BUT DO THE REVIEW SHEETS AND IT WILL DEFINITLY HELP!
she is nice, but makes it too dificalt. it is really hard to find her in her office hours.. I was doing realy good until the final.. final was way too hard.. I got a C and class mates that were praying to pass got Bs.. we are not nurses and doctors yet, tests should be over material that has been covered in the class, not on case studies that eve
She is an awesome teacher, very helpful and wants her students to work hard.
an awesome professor. She cares about her students, she noticed that we were doing horrible, so she pushed us to do our work, and it really did pay off. She gave us extra credit, and she is there to help you. Lecture is very interesting. Highly recommended, trust me if i made it, so could anyone.
Biology in general is hard and has a ton of stuff to cover. Dr. Smith does what she can to make it understandable. Do the review sheets and read the book! Gives extra credit which is helpful. The only thing that I didn't really like is giving presentations.
Shes super hot!! i cant believe she knows so much! Shes like a super genius and works for the military and does all these crazy things! Shes an awesome teacher and youll enjoy her class very much. i took her class in the winter and i got an A. you do need to study so make sure you do. TAKE HER!
I though overall she was a great instructor, however she did test rather hard. I didn't find myself learning as much as I have in my other science classes. I'm not so sure I would take her again.
Dr Smith is a great teacher. She wants to be known for riding a broom to class. I thought she wanted you to learn, but the amount of material your expected to know to pass, not possible. If required to take for a program, find another prof because you might be taking it again. Over 75% drop before end of semester. Too much work for too little.
Awesome teacher. Go to the S.I. sessions, they really help. Ask her if you have a question, she will answer. Not too much homework, but make sure to keep up on the information.
Dr. Smith is a very difficult professor but she is definitely one of the best. Exams are tough and not to be underestimated. If you study and do your work you will be fine. I would recommend taking her for any class. She does her best to prepare students for their respective healthcare fields.
She's easy to get along with, but on the other hand, her tests are not!
she really sucks at answering her office phone and emails so its hard to get a hold of her. but good teacher. tests are hard.
Mrs. Smith is really entertaining she's hilarious. On the other hand she goes further than just the concepts in Biology and is quite difficult. Her tests are awful, I dont recomend taking her for lecture if you want a good grade or to pass. Just take her for Lab.
lecture test are VERY hard. really fun in lab. kinda nuts.
Nice teacher, tough class.
Dr. Smith is an awesome professor. She is really helpful if you need her help during her office hours. I love her.
She has high standards. Your grade is not a reflection of your intelligence, or the sacrifices you made to get time to study or how many times you've retaken the class. Your grade will reflect your mastery of the content. Take the disease list seriously. Start memorizing 2 daily, starting day 1, including those weird scientific details.
she drives 100 miles each day from orange to riverside. very dedicated and nice teacher though she does not spend much time with students. explanations are crystal clear. DO AND MEMORIZE DISEASE CARDS SERIOUSLY!! final contains only diseases, not cumulative. for the tests, EVERY SINGLE DETAIL COUNTS. hard class. study and you'll be fine.
i took her in the spring of 06 for lecture and lab, she is an awesome teacher and really understands what she is teaching. Definitely reccommended for those who are at school to do gain understanding of biology. She is definitely not an easy A but well worth the effort if youll put it forth.
Dr. Smith is a good lecturer. She can go off on tangents sometimes, but is good at keeping lectures interesting. My beef with her is that her tests are probably the worst that I've seen. They aren't necessarily written in a way to test your knowledge on the subject. It kinda sucks, because she's pretty cool,
lots of information. studied all the time! had an A in lab but a C (struggled) in lecture. fair but hard.
Teaches like she's a friend, but tests you hard. I don't think her tests measure how much of the material you know, they measure your test taking skills, & the tests are written to purposefully confuse & frustrate you. Imagine being lectured on micro 1 & tested on advanced micro for a PhD. NOT recommended!!!
Got my grade in micro. It was a "B" worked hard. Tests were difficult. Instructor is outstanding, friendly, and easy to get alone with. I worked hard from day one. Don't get behind in this class. Start learning the material immediately. Learn disease cards. Don't miss class. EXCELLENT BUT HARD INSTRUCTOR!
She's funny, approachable, and teaches you more than just biology. She's extremely knowledgable, so she can answer almost any question, even if it doesn't deal with what you read in the book. Demands a lot of hard work, but she's not unreasonable. Works just as hard for her students. Organized. Loved her!
she is awesome. tries to even get you jobs at places if you are a good student. she is friendly, and sweet. I love her!!
Dr. Smith is smart and helpful. Her lectures are crystal clear. Exams are mostly from her lecture notes. I recommend her to all everyone who is serious about learning microorganism.
Great instructor! She tests hard but her lectures are fun and interesting to listen to.
love her! Dr. Heather makes Micro very interesting by relating the subject with actual medical field scenarios. very knowledgeable and very funny. seriously i would take her again.
Great teacher, great person! Dr. Heather gave very clear examples that related to the lessons. She left midway through the semester due to an illness, I hope & pray she makes a complete recovery and can get back to teaching ASAP.
She was very enthusiastic about her subject, which always makes learning much more enjoyable. She is knowledgeable about a wide range outside of general bio, and was one of the best teachers I've had a course with at RCC
Very nice and knowledgeable about her subject.
Great teacher, she is very well knowledge, her class rather consumes a lot of your time. She is very helpful yet intimidating.
Very knowledgeable and helpful. Very comprehensive in her curriculum. Funny and able to relate the lessons to her experiences as a scientist. Tests are incredibly difficult, but she drops the lowest grade if you have high enough attendance. Some times her examples are out of left field and make what she is trying to explain more confusing.
Great professor, really cares about her students and takes the time to properly prepare you for the exams. Offers extra credit too. However, do NOT cheat any under circumstances,on any assignment, test, etc, she WILL report you!
Dr. Smith is brilliant, enthusiastic, obviously loves teaching & cares for students! Took her biology class in Spring & it was the most enjoyable class I have ever. Made me love science again. Biology contains A LOT of information so I highly suggest you study on the first day & heavily rely on her powerpoints because they're straight to the point!
Dr. Smith is AWESOME! Just make sure to do study guides THOROUGHLY and you should be fine. She loves her subject and her students. Her tests are not hard but not too easy. Her practicals are fairly easy. I recommend doing study groups with your labmates it really helps.
OMG! She is SMOKING HOT. Smart, funny, witty, does not suffer fools, and brilliant. Loved her class. She is so kind...you can tell her kind heart the first day of class. She will do anything to help you. Study hard, get help, and enjoy this once in a life experience... seriously.
she is very strict on cheating and copying! she dose not take anything late!
She's really sweet and very caring. She has a sense of humor! By taking this class you have to prepare before coming in lecture and lab. Take notes during lecture, ask a question dont be afraid! Read the lab book before going into lab! Do the study guide it helps! Just make sure you do all of the material so you get the best out of the class.
You will not find a better professor for Biology than Dr. Smith. She cares for her students and wants them to succeed. Study hard and often, the tests are not a walk in the park. Print out the PowerPoints and take good notes and you'll be just fine.
Don't miss an opportunity to take a course with Heather, you won't regret it! She makes biology fun and achievable, but also cares a great deal about her students. You've never taken a professor like her and you won't want to miss out! Take good notes and attend class, and you'll learn a lot and have fun!
If you need to take BIO-1 for your major taking this professor is the absolute best decision you could possibly make! Dr. Smith is by far the smartest and nicest profs in all of SoCal and she will prepare you for your future!
loved this class! i highly recommend dr. smith for anyone who needs to take bio-1!
Dr. Smith is absolutely amazing. She's very approachable, she has a good sense of humor, and she's not afraid to speak her mind. Be prepared to do a lot of homework, and study hard for tests. It's very worth it.
Let me start off by saying that I absolutely hate Biology. I took bio1 last semester and totally failed it. Dr. Smith made me love Biology! She makes everyday so interesting and exciting! You must take her she is one of the best if not the best teacher Ive ever had at RCC!You have to do your hw and you have to study in order to pass. Love her!!!!!
Dr Smith is one the best professors at RCC!! She is truly an amazing and cares about all of her students. She's makes biology really fun . Her tests are a little bit difficult but as long as you do the HW and study guides you will be fine.
Dr. Smith is really an outstanding professor, She is worth taking, Bio is not easy but if you do the homework, extra credit, study guide and get in a study group you will pass her class. Most importantly she CARES!!!! loved her class. Outstanding!
Take her if you don't mind working because she is worth it! I came into that class unsure of my scientific self, but she motives you. Classes like this one are rare, when it is not easy and the professor is helpful. She cares, take her.
awesome professor, she makes biology fun. Tests are not easy but do your work, put the effort and she is always willing to help you out.
Dr. Smith assigns an excessive amount of homework and the exams are very frustrating. I literally spent hours on homework and time studying for the exams. Overall I was not satisfied with my final grade.
She's all right. She's nice and caring to her students. Sometimes she may not be as clear when it comes to her lectures. Yes she puts a lot of hw in Bio warning. Either way whoever you take for bio, the class is WORK! Read the book and pay attention. Recommend taking Burchett for Bio though.
This class is not easy at all. Prepare to do a lot of work and studying. I passed this class with an A but only because I put the work in. Homework questions & vocabulary, flashcards, and test study guides are really important. She is a caring teacher and makes class interesting, for the most part.
Makes you print everything out on your own, makes you watch tons of videos, tells jokes no one laughs at, a LOT of info, loves to talk about herself, needs scantrons every week, flashcards etc. not an easy class at all. buy book & lab IT IS A MUST! take her if you have to but i prefer Burchett.
A good teacher I learned a lot of things about Biology. One thing I learned the most is PCR. Polymerase Chain Reaction. It amplifies DNA. I love her. Keep up with her take advantage of pop quiz and lots of extra credit you will surely do well
Wonderful teacher, loved the way she teaches! Never liked biology but now I do!! Extremely helpful, just study the study guides and you'll pass!
Hilarious professor! You will learn a lot and would actually enjoy the class. I was not looking forward to the class since it was biology but I loved going to class each day because of her :)
Dr. Smith is a great professor. She genuinely cares about her students and wants them to do well. Biology is not easy subject, but if you attend class and lab, do the homework, and look over the study guides that she gives, you will surely pass.
BY FAR THE BEST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD AT RCC. Dr. Smith is the kindest, silliest, and most passionate soul I have ever met. I highly recommend her for anyone who needs to take Bio-1. Do your homework, and pay attention you'll be just fine. Having Smith gave me the boost of happiness I needed all semester. Looked forward to going to her classes.
One of the most passionate instructors I know. She really cares about her students and wants them to pass. Biology is not an easy subject, but if you take good notes, study, show up and do well on homework assignments you well be able to pass her tests. Make sure you visit her during office hours or form a study group, it really does help!
Beautiful, intelligent, and hilarious! A 10! Loved going to lecture. Smartest prof around. Do your homework, don the reviews and you will do great! What a kind heart she has and terrific attitude. Do not miss the chance to take this class!
Smith is the best bio teacher ever!!!! she curves the tests. she's soo funny and a great person! she makes biology fun and interesting to the point where you actually want to show up and learn! HIGHLY RECOMMEND ! got an A in her class but I had to work for it, because its not an easy subject. but she is the best teacher to teach it!
She is an amazing teacher! Although biology is a difficult subject, she will always answer questions and visiting her during office hours was very helpful. The biggest advice I would have is a) form a study group and b)use her review sheets. She also gives plenty of opportunities to her students to improve their grade (like extra credit).
What a woman! Beautiful, smart as hell, and hilarious! Wow! Hate science... Love her! Do your study guides and exam reviews. Tough but fair. She is awesome. She is so kind and genuine... helpful. Sexy sweetheart.
Prof. Smith is AMAZING. I am no science wiz, and pulled a B. Tests r tough, but forming a study group saved me! Makes lectureLab interesting and always puts a smile on ur face before and during lecture! Great personality and will help you with arms wide open. Very intelligent, kind, funny, and beautiful woman. Don't hesitate to take her!
Professor Smith is an amazing science teacher. Her lectures were interesting and funny. She gives advice on how to study for the course, and is always willing to help if you need it. If you put time into this class you will pass.
I love Dr. Smith. She always finds time to talk to you during her office hours. Her lectures are hilarious! She's extremely funny and she also laughs at your own jokes, too. She curves tests and always gives plenty of extra credit opportunity for you to boost your grade. Wonderful jewel at at RCC that truly cares for her students. TAKE HER CLASS!!!
Dr. Smith is such an amazing person. Take her class! She tries her hardest to help you pass because she wants everyone to be successful and also knows that bio is not everyones subject of interest so she tries to break down the material to make it a bit easier to understand. She also does not hand out grades you have to work for it if you want it.
I am a UCR student who took her class as a prerequisite. She belongs at Harvard or Stanford - she is that good. She has a gift for making the material easy. She is clear, organized, and keeps grades updated weekly. She also has a wild sense of humor. She is easy on the eyes and has a kind soul. I went to class everyday just for her....
Amazing!!!! loved her class she was funny and easy going but when it came to work was a tough grader. loved her but be cautious she is a tough grader.
She is a tough grader, but Biology isn't an easy course. You need to work for your grade by attending lectures and studying for exams. For continuing science majors I recommend her, you will learn and even if you struggle she makes herself available to you as much as possible. I would take her again for micro if I was continuing at RCC.
AWESOME PROFESSOR!!! LOVED HAVING HER HAS MY BIOLOGY PROFESSOR. SHE'S THERE FOR HER STUDENTS AND CARES ABOUT THERE EDUCATION. LAUGHS AT HER OWN JOKES AND REALY SWEET LOVING. WISH I COULD TAKE HER AGAIN FOR ANY OF MY SCIENCE CLASS!!
she was very good. bio really tough class. she just gives to much mind tap assignments that don't even appear on the test so that set me back in the beginning. but she does test replacement on the final. she cares for you and is willing to help. she try's to be funny a lot when she isn't but she trying to make us feel better in tough class.
She was in a bad accident and even though she was in pain, she always smiled and laughed and made us feel good. A bit of sunshine. Do the study guides and get a study group together. She stayed late helping us all the time. It payed off. How can someone so smart be so sweet?
I totally felt like she knew what she was teaching... she's confident and she is always dressed professionally..... I feel prepared for Anatomy and Micro thanks to her! And she's really really cute!
Heather is always dresssed super professionally and is really fun and engaging! I actually feel like I'm going to do well in anatomy now, which I've been dreading since the start of my degree. She's really pretty, gives out of the box lectures and teaches us how things are applicable. 100% recommend her!
She is very tough professor, but she always willing to help the students if you are willing to study! After took her class, I think that now I know how to put more effort to study!
She DID NOT GIVE UP ON US!!!! She gave us a pep talk and gave us cards as homework and although I hated the work it helped SO MUCH and I passed! She believed in me when I had no hope. What a wonderful professor and woman. She is a gem at RCC..... love her to death! I want to be like her when I grow up!i
A very entertaining professor. Tests are the bulk of the grade. No group assignments! Just pay attention, do the readings, study, and you'll be fine.
Thoroughly enjoyed professor Smith's class. I came into the class trying to get it over with because I had no interest in the subject, and now after I want to major somewhere within the medical field because of her passion. Show up, and study. The class isn't as hard as people say, just put the work in. She's always willing to help if you ask.
Genuine, kind, brilliant, and beautiful. She has standards and she helps you rise to them. She is a professional scientist and Engineer at sevreal firms and brings that experience to us. Do the study guides, participate on class and this bombshell brilliant woman will help you succeed.
She has the most amazing beautiful hair!! It always is so nice. She is so gentle with all the animals in lab. I've never seen animals like snakes, turtles, and geckos run to her when she starts talking to them. She is like snow white. Tough prof. High standards. But I learned my stuff for 2A!
She made biology amazing! I learned so much from her and came to truly love biology - from having very little interest and knowledge in the subject. She is passionate, professional, kind, caring, and inspirational. Do the study guides to do well on the tests, but also read the material - because it's fascinating and it will really help.
Professor Smith is one of the best professors out there. She is funny and cares about her student. She makes the class enjoyable. She made me remember how much I like science.
Such an amazing character. She is so very helpful! The class isn't as tough as it's portrayed to be as long as you're on top of it. I did purchase a textbook but I think it was a bit complicated. The lab manual, her powerpoints, and lecture notes are what got me through. FLASHCARDS are very recommended. I wasn't a flashcard person until her class.
Professor Smith was by far one of the BEST teachers during these predicament times. The class will be fine as long as you take notes on all the lectures, study well for tests, and get a head start on your work. Professor Smith is such a kind, caring, and compassionate teacher who only wants the best for her students! She is always willing to help!
Dr. Heather Smith is an amazing professor she truly cares about her students. I always looked forward to her lectures not only were they insightful but she is hilarious. I took professor Smith in fall 2020 I highly would recommend everyone take any of her classes I would def. take her again!
I loved professor smith! I had to take this class like 3 times and I passed with her. Her lectures are great and she tries to help you in every way possible to pass this class as long as you put in the work.
I absolutely loved Dr. Smith's class! She's so funny and explains concepts so well during lectures. This is the first time I've actually enjoyed a bio class. She really tries to work with you and make sure as many students as possible can pass, and if you put in the effort to do your work she'll get you there.
Dr. Smith is such a nice professor! She will make sure you understand everything. This class is VERY difficult. Textbook is necessary. The tests are very hard, you actually need to study and the lab practical's are even harder. I dreaded taking this class. I am so glad it is over. Labs are basically useless because it's all PowerPoints and videos.
Bio is difficult but she was very nice and help you to pass the class. Read the textbook and come to lectures. She explain materials clearly.
Dr. Smith is alright. Most of the stuff you'll have to teach yourself. The exams are worth most of your grade and are quite hard even with notes on the side, which you're not supposed to use, You also can't miss too many classes otherwise you'll be kicked out of the class. She offers EC but its only ever worth 10 points at most, Goodluck lol
This class during a short semester was quite challenging, but Professor Smith gives great lectures. Biology can get a bit confusing, but she really tries to make it as relatable and easy to understand. You definitely have to work hard and study, exams have some tricky questions! I wish I had the chance to have her in person, highly recommend!
I took Dr.Smith this fall 2022 and she was great. Make sure to attend her student hours if you have any questions. Bio in general is difficult, my advice is to read a chapter ahead so you won't be lost in lectures. She has a tough love relationships with her student, but she will make sure you succeed if she sees you try. I will take her again fs!!
PLEASE do not take her class if you work, or are taking other classes. Im currently her student and she is a very hard professor be ready to take huge exams every 3 weeks. We are in week 5 finishing up CH 7 going into 8. I have talked to other professor and most are in CH 5, 6. She doesn't care, she's very harsh, and rude
Had her this Spring of 2023 and it was horrible. Took her class as a Hybrid and I hated it. Her so called weekly zoom reviews sucked, power points made no sense. Her study guides made no sense as to what was on her exams. She grades her exams very heavy. I learned more going to SGL then in her actual class. Don't take if you work full time.
Dr. Smith is amazing! She expects a lot out of her students, and as a first gen she understands our struggles. But - she doesn't let us slack because of lame excuses. She is always available Many classmates think this is high school. I love her! . I am in 50 B now and I am thankful I had her for my prof. She prepared me for what was coming
Taking this class just to get it out of the way, take a different professor! However, if you really want to LEARN the material, she is the best professor. She expects you to put in all the work needed but she also gives you all the support needed to be successful. I was working FT while taking her and I still got an A but I had to put in the work.
I would not take Dr. Smith unless you want to be a nurse or pursue a career in the medical field, if this class is just a GE then TAKE SOMEONE ELSE!! She is a great professor, but she holds all her students to a very high standard and does not get that for some people this class is just a GE! Her slides are weird but her test reviews are good.
Wish this class was not hybrid. I want her to have class in person because class is so much fun! She let's us use our exam review sheets on the test.
Withdrew the course because she expects students to automatically know everything. Never explains labs well so be ready to teach yourself most of the material. Was a hybrid course, but never bothered to teach lecture online and expected you to learn the material on your own. I would NOT recommend this class to anyone that is new to STEM courses.
Dr. Smith was a great professor if you genuinely want to learn the material. She taught about important things pertaining the medical field and if you aren't majoring in anything medical or science at least, I wouldn't recommend. Exams had everything on the review and were pretty self-explanatory, mainly just multiple choice. Would take again.
If you can take someone else, please do. A lot of the material you will have to learn on your own, SUPER fast paced, tons of reading, lectures that are lacking & brief, & exams that intentionally confuse you. Unrealistically high standards even for students who are just GEs. Youre expected to just know the material but ultimately its memorization.
I don't recommend to take this class if you're not naturally good at BIO. Professor needs to be more specific in her online lectures but instead just throws tons of reading at you. She can be quite rude when you ask questions or get things wrong unfortunately. She knows her stuff but needs to be more understanding.
Attendance & punctuality is implemented. Prepare for lots of reading material & pop quizzes. Participating is required. Overall grade will depend on exam grades. Total 4 quizzes, 3 Exams (30-40 questions) & Final. Exam reviews are provided. I'd recommend this everyone who needs Health Science class to register with Professor Heather Smith.
She started off the class with over 30 students and now that I have dropped her course, she now has 10 students left in her class, no kidding. This says a lot. She is strict, not understanding of anything whatsoever, rude, and clearly is setting up her students for failure. She made a lot of her students feel dumb and thinks her class is VIP only..
BIO1 with Professor Smith is a challenging course, but worth it if you're seriously interested in the material. Lectures can be lacking, so unstuck study and the textbook are essential. Just be ready to put in the work.
I understand that this is not an easy class and that its not supposed to be. She make things harder than they should be for no other reason than to be hard. She spent most of the class trying to micro mange how we study instead of actually teaching. Also, what kind of monster uses Comic Sans. I was looking foward to micro, dreaded every lecture.
barely teaches, doesn't give good lectures, you will have to self study a whole lot to do even a little bit well, teaches you techniques on how to study but barely even understands how to use the techniques
Professor barely explains or teaches. She expects you to know everything. Condescending attitude but tries to be nice. Tough grader. Rarely extra credit. Exams are almost 100 questions multiple choice.
I wish I had seen Micro reviews before taking this class. MICRO STUDENTS BEWARE do NOT take this class if you want to pass. Her tests are impossibly difficult, she is condescending, and does not provide slides (they are fill in the blank) I am an A student who went through the LVN program with straight A's, and I am in danger of failing this class.
Can be funny and kind at times. Grading was inconsistent esp w diff textbook versions and had errors. Lectures were frustrating since half the time was spent telling us how to study instead of actually teaching material. Came off as rude and condescending when students asked questions or needed help. Felt like she didn't actually want us to succeed
One of the best professors I've taken at RCC. She is caring and inspirational to her students also offers help when needed. Total of 4 exams if you study and attend SGL you will pass. I recommend
Dr.smith is awesome ! She truly cares about her students success! She wants you to put in the work not just for the grade but for your understanding and future success. she was always available when I needed her help so make sure to ask for help when you need it. I work full time and have two kids and got an A, I studied ALOT but enjoyed it
DON'T TAKE THIS PROFESSOR FOR MICRO. Her test are ridiculously hard, lecture slides are half empty, she doesn't try to help you. and constantly tries to scare you and put you down, I was only able to get a B because I worked so hard for it on my own. She has random quizzes that are graded harshly, and barely gives extra credit or works with you.
Dr. Smith really cares about her students and wants them to do well. You get extra credit for going to SGL meetings every week, and she provides study guides for exams. I would recommend her to anyone looking to take this course.
She truly cares about her students and wants us to succeed. Weekly extra credit, clear study guides, and lots of support. Exams are tough but fair with the right prep. She gives you all the tools, you just have to use them!
