This teacher is really bad!

SHe is crazy. The only thing that she cares about is the fact that she has won some time of state award for speeking. She makes speeking in public more dificul than it really is. If you are thinking of getting this class you should visit a pshychologist.

HORRIBLE! wouldn't excuse missed classes b/c of a serious medical issue. if ur going 2 miss class, excused or not, u should just drop, she won't be understanding even if u go to office hrs. smug, rude, & quick 2 judge. whoever said they'd rather clean toilets is right. this class won't help u @ all!

I was late for her class and she was everything but NICE. She is very aggressive and scary. She is not a people person and i guess she enjoys putting people down. I definetly dont recomment this class unless you are OUT OF YOUR MIND.

Avoid her. She is the worst, unhelpful teacher I ever had in my life.

Took her about 2 years ago, yet still hate her and the experience that she imposes on students. She's mean, negative, and gets off by putting others down. I only took her 'cause I had to transfer. She actually yelled a young lady for too many "vocalized pauses" (um, ah, er) during a speech. Someone really needs to print these and give to SMC dean.

She is a total "freak" about tardiness. I am talking about 2 to 3 minutes late in her class is a punishment towards your grade. She talks fast, high-pitch volume that after half-hour you want to leave the classroom. She is unfair mainly to males when it comes to hear your comments in class. She is more concern about tardiness rather than the progre

This lady is the saddest excuse for a human being that I have ever met. She is extremely bitter. Her lectures pertain to her talking about herself. She always talks about her PhD like she's better than everybody else. I didn't learn anything from her lectures. I had to learn everything from the book. She shouldn't be teaching this class.

This class was a disaster. The Professor was completely unorganized and she didn?t communicate. The online class and the syllabus both had outdated information. When students would ask her to clarify she?d simply reply ?see syllabus?. I highly discourage everyone from taking this class.

If being talked down to like a misbehaved dog is your thing then by all means take this class. If your sick or better yet had to have emergency surgery with surgeons and doctors notes, well to bad you just got dropped. This class is a disaster. When test come around its based on her chicken scratch that was on the white board at various points.

OMG..Seriously, DO NOT TAKE HER. I needed help on an assignment and she seemed bothered by me to the point where she said "Just use crayons for all I care for." Seriously, a college student using crayons for an assignment.......ok enough said .

Heed this warning that upon entering her class you will no longer maintain your human rights and Heather Smith will do everything in her power to make you recognize this. Entire semester was contradictory to the fundamentals of interpersonal communication. 100% Fact. Beware.

Terrible teacher!!! ego-maniac. Don't undestand why is she still teaching at SMC. Students we must stop lashing out here and write official complaints to the dean. That is the only way she will maybe stop abusing students.

Hands down the worst professor at SMC. This needs to be addressed by the dean, she is abusive and abhorrent to the point of despair. Please whatever you do, DO NOT TAKE ANY COURSE TAUGHT BY HEATHER SMITH, save yourself the time and dignity. Peace be with those who have survived this nightmare.

Worst teacher I have ever had. Her tests are messy & confusing, she spends most of class talking about herself & unrelated material. The test reviews are quite honestly a joke, just read the book and don't listen to her. She also didn't show up for class twice & never emailed us to let us know she wouldn't be coming! Don't take her class!

Beware of professor Smith! This professor does not care about the student or students in her class, her main priority is to hear herself talk. She does not respect her students and even the faculity does not respect her. Stay clear of this professor!!!!!

i didnt learn anything in her class. The only reason i got a B was because on her test, you can see the answers at the bottom of every question. She tired covering the answer with black ink but its obvious that she didnt cover it good. I was able to see through all answers in every test which is how i passed. So just a little advice

DON'T DO IT! I took her online com class. She's the worst professor ever. She had a syllabus that wasn't completed at start. She didn't follow it. Her feedback was terrible & limited. The class was unorganized. You will never know your grade bc you don't see individual feedback. She won't give you any info 2 prep for tests despite repeatedly asking

Hey all, I'm at UCSB now 2 years later but I had such a bad experience with Heather Smith I felt compelled to come back almost 3 years later to tell you not to take her. Her class was one of the first I'd taken in the major, and she was horrible. So rude to students, truly belittling. I hope she reads this and I hope you you take my advice to AVOID

Horrible just horrible , i don't even know why Smc allows her to stay on campus. Talks to students w with out any kind of respect . Tested all the time . Goes off topic a lot , without answering your question. Only if I would look at her rate my professor before hand . Bottom line don't take her . I repeat donot even consider it , she is bad.

Ive never met a more crude human being. I was going through an extremely difficult time after losing my cousin so I missed a couple of class. I emailed her about my absence, but since I didnt give her proof she decided it would be fair to drop me from the class. She also made an extremely disrespectful comment about how I was handling things.

The professor is rude and disrespectful and has awful communication skills. She goes off topic all the time and goes on tangents about things that have nothing to do with what we are supposed to learn. She scolds students and even talks negatively about students from her other classes. She shouldn't be allowed to teach. Don't take this class.

This Professor is the worst professor by far I have taken at SMC. She has very little respect for her students and has a very negative attitude in almost every class. I wish I had read these reviews before I took her class, because the negative ones are accurate. Terrible professor!

This teacher is among the worst of the teachers I have encountered so far. I had an appointment on the first day of school and emailed her saying I wouldn't be able to make it. She then told me that her classes were full so she may drop me. I checked online, it wasn't full and still had open spots. She dropped me because I opened my laptop in class

Doesnt use canvas. Had a good grade, just couldnt handle the professor anymore. Was battling depression, my grandpa passed away and my uncle was getting sick. I asked if I could turn in an assignment a few days late for partial credit, and I could talk to her during office hours. No reply for a week, until after I dropped the class.

Ive worked in retail MGMT for YEARS, so I adapted my group training persona to navigate this course because Prof Smith is so temperamental. If you have no other choice for a Speech Course: show up on time, rehearse your speeches, and use her exact diction from her lectures for answers to her quizzes/test bc she will not back down when criticized

I've enjoyed many challenging teachers who don't take bs. I love tough graders w/ exciting material. Professor Smith is the worst, least organized & most condescending teacher I've had. She assigns things at the last min while expecting you to go above and beyond. only textbook, no lectures. every single rubric has had confusing & careless errors.

There are no tags to describe this professor. She's ineffective in all her coursework as its unorganized and unclear. She has notorious mood swings and speaks down to students as if they've never taken another course. Her assignments are last minute, no warning and if you ask her for help beware. Avoid this class at all costs.

So disorganized! Assignments often posted last minute with no clear rubric. Quizzes often asked about content that was never discussed, or random questions that dont really pertain to the actual subject of our class, but based off example speeches etc. Always has personal issues interfering with class but never grants students leniency for ours.

This has got to be the worst professor I have ever encountered. Just awful. Rude to her students. Not approachable at all. She is beyond condescending when she speaks to you. Got to the point where I was afraid to ask a question because of the backlash. She is not a professor that wants you to succeed. Last minute assignments. No CLEAR direction.

I encourage you to take her class if you want to know what is a bad "teacher". She is unorganized, don't give clear instruction on essay, expect a lot, put random questions on quizzes, never reply to email. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!ONCE AGAIN, DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. Trust me, if you take her class, you will regret for your ENTIRE life.

This is the worst teacher i have ever come across @ SMC. She is unorganized, doesnt teach anything but gives "modules" that clearly are copied from other teachers. Its an excuse so she doesnt have to teach. She is incredibly hostile toward ANY and ALL questions. She is clearly a sad troubled woman who probably has 0 friends. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS

She is the worst teacher I have taken so far. She barley gives any details on papers, so you have to figure everything on your own and hope you get it right.. She gives you less than one minute per question for her tests and are difficult. Do yourself a favor and do not take any of her classes.

Avoid her at all costs. Her class was incredibly unorganized which made it very difficult to do well. You don't know due dates until a few days prior and she ends up changing them + instructions on a whim. She's also rude, I was directly insulted one time I emailed her asking for clarification on an assignment. Easily the worst professor I've had.

It's her way or the highway. She gave last-minute assignments with less than 24 hrs to complete. Canvas is a mess and she is a very harsh grader considering she gave no rubric. I was given a C on a speech and had no idea why she took off so many points. Unclear! Beware.

For being a communication teacher, ironically she is the worst at communicating. Rude, is confusing on everything, and makes up dumb rules to her own benefit. Steer far far away 0/10

Professor Smith is rude, condescending, has an unclear rubric for grading. Her course is unorganized, and she will make it clear to you how she feels about you. If you are a procrastinator especially, do not take this course, as she will probably dock you points simply for not submitting your assignments early, which is ridiculous, but sadly true.

Don't choose this professor and switch out if you can. There is no structure in modules. Professor does not give many resources, which is difficult as it is a speech class. No clear information regarding the assignments and you basically have to teach yourself with no material. Little to no assignments besides two speeches, and a few quizzes.

Save your time, and take another professor. She doesn't respond to emails, has had 3 "big" assignments all due in less than two weeks that are with a lot of points with little to no clarification, and to top it all off her canvas is all over the place.

She is so unfair with the time she gives you for quizzes/exams. She is also very particular about the way you send her emails. I joined her late start class thinking it was going to be a breeze... it's not. Please save yourself time and energy.

AVOID!! gives unreasonable time during quizzes and exams, seriously 47 minutes for 65 questions?? ridiculous. Very picky on how she wants speeches and deducts points if submitted close to the due date, typos on everything (even on quizzes and exams -_-) creates her own questions & words them in a way only she would understand w/ typos of course.
