Great teacher in all respects. Personable, very well versed in her subject matter. Exacting, but that is a good thing...understands the different levels of her students and works towards improving those levels. Don't be lazy in her class.
she assigns some really unique projects, and in both classes, i really learned what i set out to learn, which is more than i can say for most of the classes i've taken here.
She was awesome. Very helpful, very interested, everything was great.
very hard class, follow the outlines.
I think professor Szatsmary was a nice lady, shes fun and very understanding. Her projects aren't bad cause they give you an ok amount of freedomYou need to careffully follow the guidlines though and keep yoru handouts.. There are lots of grading opprotunities and she has an awesome late work policy
Professor Szatmary is an amazing teacher! I was doubtful going into the class, but she really made me love it! She's an enthusiastic teacher who will keep you on your toes!
Amazing professor, very clear and organized in her guidelines, expectations, and lectures. Lots of emphasis on the process of creating the final product and craftsmanship. Don't turn in messy work if you want to do well! Great sense of humor, loves to chat about unrelated topics during class work time, which is frequent. Definitely recommend her!
I really liked prof. szatmary. Shes a little scary at first but its just her humor-shes really funny. the class is demanding but if you just keep up with the notbook assignments and keep your work clean you will do fine. I didn't even buy the textbook and i did fine without it. You can listen to your ipod and get alot of work done in class.
Prof. Szatmary is quirky, cynical and hilarious. I hope you have some cool people in your class with her because the group dynamic can be great. Her projects for Color Theory are easy and flexible. You can use Photoshop for some of them and the journals are a BREEZE compared to other CT classes. Take her take her take her!
Szatmary is the best professor I have had at SCAD.She is funny, has great stories to tell but also is passionate about her job and students. Her projects were fun and her quizzes and test were easy as long as you know the material. Take her class, you'll be happy you did.
She loves her journal assignments. Her projects were always fun to work on. Her lectures were very informative. Then again she was just restating what was in the text and maybe some extra stuff.
Professor Szatmary is young, but very passionate about her subjects and teaching. Her cynical personality is priceless! She only doesn't like you if you don't work or have an attitude. Quizzes are easy if you listen and take notes. The projects are challenging, but far more creative and fun than other classes'!She has help sessions as well.
She's a very nice teacher, very friendly as well and understanding. Somehow we always end up talking about food at 6:30 pm though. Be prepared for lots of hw and always keep your handouts. She hates lateness and..cellphones and you checking the time...I love her class though and I will definitely take her again next quarter.
I really didn't expect to like her class at first, but I loved it! Professor Szatmary is awesome- she expects good work from you, but she is great about giving criticism that is always helpful and honest- you will never feel you're being insulted or talked down to. Great freedom in projects and makes the classroom an enjoyable environment.
DON'T take this teacher if you want to suffer horrifying amounts of cutting tiny little squares, and doing tedious cutting projects that make you want to gouge your eyes out. This is what you will be stuck doing for half the quarter. She's highly amusing in class, but the projects are dull and honestly I'm not learning much from them.
Best professor at SCAD. Easy tests, makes you work hard on projects but is a FANTASTIC professor. Take her for a great step into foundations.
Szatmary is a very intellectual individual. She seems very Left in her views, but doesn't press them on the class. She is as unbiased as possible. If you want to learn, take her class, but be prepared to study and work really hard. It's not an easy A, or even B.
She will push you to do things you might not usually do, but she helps when you need it and you always end up with something you can feel pretty good about.
After the first class I was convinced I would hate it, but I've been pleasantly surprised. She's a great professor; constantly giving really helpful criticism and interacting with the students. She can be a tough grader, but you get the grade you deserve. Lots of projects and work, but over all I definitely enjoy her class.
Lots and lots and lots of cut paper. Craftsmanship is what is most important. She seems bored most of the time. I isn't the class atmosphere that I enjoy, I feel uninspired and tired in class. Cutting 1/2 inch squares with blades..... not fun. Probably a good professor for some, but I get nothing out of her class.
Strict professor, but very cool. Tough grader. Talks about unimportant stuff. Over all it was a fun class. She is too HOT and sometimes its hard to concentrate
Wonderful professor. Gives tough projects but is always there to help. Offers lots of extra help sessions, too. Took her for 2d and color theory, want her again for 3d. Best professor at SCAD. Grades hard on craftsmanship but fair overall. Seems very techy + geeky, which was cool. Loved this class!
best teacher at SCAD. had her for 2D and color theory. she makes the schedules for all foundations. smart.cool. seriously interested in her field/s and goes above and beyond in her teaching style. JUST TAKE HER and you won't be disappointed. i wanted to impress her. class is relaxed. i actually looked forward to going
I don?t think there are any other 3D teachers better than Szatmary. You not only learn about the world of 3D, but you will learn about yourself in how versatile you are. My classmates and I invested an enormous about of time into her class because the projects were so enjoyable. We worked with wire, plaster, nails with cardboard, and sculpey.
I'm taking 2D design online from her durring the summer. She has us work hard, but she gives great feedback. She is willing to put in as much time as you do. If you take the online class look over the vocab words they appear on her quizs.
I took her for 2D and the workload is heavy but she's not a terribly hard grader. Her quizzes are easy as long as you take notes during her lectures (they're like 10 minutes once a week). Her projects are interesting and she's really personable/funny, and always happy to give extra help. She's really passionate about design, too. TAKE HER!
Only lectures for a few minutes every other class and gives tedious, repetitive projects. Easy grader. Talks about her 'top ten' students constantly. I felt like I learned absolutely nothing.
Best teacher!!Get her if you can. I had for design 1 and couldn't get her for color theaory..I looked everyday at the open classes and I finally got her!!!! she is worth the fight. Class is fun, projects interesting, and quizzes easy if you study. LOVEEE HERRR!!!
Absolutely wonderful professor. She's very easy to pass if you study and follow directions. She's very professional but also very approachable and lighthearted. She's always there to help, but you have to ask. Yes, she plays favourites, but it's not hard to become one. Assignments are time-consuming but doable, and allow for creative leeway.
Phenomenal. She knows the book inside and out so if you have any questions she can pretty much answer them on the spot. Her assignments are very interesting/different but challenging. You do learn from the projects and definitely grow as an artist. She always has critiques on her assignments which are very helpful and informative. TAKE HER!
She is a great professor. Everything is explained very well, and her projects are really fun. She's a very easy-going lady. I'm taking her for DSGN101 next quarter because that's how awesome she is.
I thought it was an easy class. She explains things well and as long as you put effort into your projects you should get a good grade. Fun girl too
Take this class! You almost have to try to fail, but you also have to try to get an A. I spent a long time on her projects, and she graded fairly. She teaches more through projects and work ethic, than out of the book, which means the projects count a lot more than quizzes. She likes to interact with the class with jokes and such. Its fun.
In spring 2010, Szatmary wasn't supposed to teach the class, but after a teacher switch, I ended up with her. I am so glad! I had no interest in 3D but she made the class doable. Also, she kept costs way down for a course that is normally quite expensive. Thank you, Professor for making this course less stressful and for helping me appreciate 3D!
She is great! Funny and well organized. You have to follow the directions but if you do you will be successful.
Had for color theory. Fabulous teacher. Really made class time enjoyable with her stories and trivia questions. The projects were hard and tedious, but well worth it. I learned so much about color that I can't stop applying it to my everyday life. I would recommend her to anyone. Personally taking her again for 3D Design.
Professor Szatmary is a personable, fun teacher as long as you remain respectful and are diligent with your work. Her grading is hard, but fair. Projects are tedious, however I feel MUCH more confident with my color theory feeling as though I had known nothing prior. Mixing pigments is now a breeze, thank you Professor Szatmary!
She said one thing first day of class, "You have to wow me to get an A." Try hard, FOLLOW DIRECTIONS, don't take shortcuts she'll notice. Don't make safe projects, do something to challenge yourself. Great teacher, fun class. Smile at her jokes at least and pay attention, don't be late from break. You can tell she loves to teach. Take her. :)
She's a decent teacher, but I felt like she could be rather full of herself and it got to be rather annoying. I don't know, maybe it's just me. Everyone else seems to like her.
numerous quizzes that are long- class average was about an 77-full of herself and thought she was funny. She didnt realize how much actual time was spent on the project just how it turned out. I THINK most-but she def had class favorites. Overall the class was pretty inexpensive compared to other 3D classes but I would pay for a diff teacher
I had Professor Szatmary for DSGN 100 and took her again for color theory because I enjoyed having her for my professor. She is extremely helpful when you ask for help and during workdays she comes around and gives everyone feedback. If you show up and work hard, she will really try to help you succeed in her classes.
I loved the two class I took with her. I had 3-d design and color theory. She knows what shes talking about and will work with you if you work. If you don't care to take some time to do what you should she's not going to help you out and give up her free time to come in and work with you.
i LOVE prof. szatmary. she is funny and personable and really cool. she is very helpful and always will answer your questions. she often comes in on her days off too to help. i found her class to be very challenging though, the projects very complicated and difficult to do perfectly, but she appreciates your efforts.
i absolutely love szatmary her assignments are original and very unique. she's always willing to help and she gives good feedback. the textbook will definitely be used but focus on vocabulary. her quizzes/midterm are easy if you study.
Amazing professor! If you're not in her class, get there!!! I learned more in 10 weeks from her than I ever had from any other teacher!
Had her for 2D design and she was great. At first, she came off as kind of up tight, but she loosens up as the quarter progresses and she becomes really friendly. She also gives great feedback if you ask.
Professor Szatmary has been my favorite professor by far. During her lecture days she is very clear and gives you notes on exactly what will be on the tests. Her projects are fun and she lets you do your own thing as long as she likes your outcome she will give you a good grade.
I LOVE Szatmary. She's honestly awesome. None of my projects were the nest in the class, but I worked hard and she saw that. She is sassy and full of attitude, which makes her fun to listen to. She is very clear on all of the assignments, no textbook needed. Her tests are hard, so watch out. She likes to read trivia out to the class.
The Class is very interesting, and Heather really makes you love what you are doing. She's humorous, understanding, sassy, and She teaches the one class a day that doesn't make me sleepy. Work is at a relatively steady pace. She lets you know when everything is due and will clarify anything you need so you dont go home with questions-a definite yes
So far, my favorite teacher by far. Szatmary is fun, interesting, and an extremely pleasant teacher to have. She'll make sure you're on top of things, but in a pleasant way. She never comes across as over bearing or demeaning, she just wants to make sure you're learning. Would absolutely (and am trying to) take her again.
Szatmary is unforgiving and harsh. She was reccomended to me by a friend, but it turns out she is really tough and it is her way or the highway. She has zero flexibility and can be demeaning to students. NOT RECCOMENDED.
Szatmary is a wonderful professor. She can be a bit of a tough grader, and you can't slack off. Her projects leave a lot of room for creativity. She has a great personality and does trivia games during our workdays. There are around 3 classes of lectures, and the rest is studio time. She taught me a lot! Take her class!!!!
I had Szatmary for 3 quarters of design and enjoyed each. Projects are usually interesting. Students are expected to keep meticulous process records, and she's emphasizes presentation. Projects take a fair amount of time to complete, but are not unreasonable. Good classes for those who work well with requirements.
Szatmary is intelligent, funny, and helpful. She gives a lot of homework, but all of it has purpose. I believe I've learned a lot already, and it's only been a few weeks!
She's an incredibly tough grader, but she tells you exactly what she wants. Expect at least two projects a week. She's very strict but is willing to accept a slip-up as long as you show that you truly care about the class. Would take again.
It was an enjoyable class. I'm not into arts and crafts kind of design, but she made the projects interesting nonetheless. Good sense of humour and easy to get along with AS LONG AS you show up on time, have your work completed, show effort, and do well.
No extra credit. She is not clear what she wants you to do. She will tell you that you have many mistake when you submit not before. Tough grader with her own ridiculous rules. learning nothing during the class,Absolutely would not take again.
I don't think i ever truly appreciated Szatmary's class till I was out of it. She is a tough women. Grades tough. You have to really work for your grade. A very smart Women who doesn't take anyone's BS. Despite all that she is an amazing professor. I learned a lot. My only advice is to do ALL YOUR WORK ON TIME no matter how much it is.
Prof. Szatmary is extremely outgoing and want her students to do well. She does not hand out A's so be prepared to really work for your grade. Tests and quizzes were not too hard unless you did not study. She is funny and wants people to speak up if they have questions and wants students to participate. During critique be proper and to the point.
Overall, I enjoyed this class. The professor was very easy to talk to and had a great sense of humor. I did have to work to earn an A, but I don't think I got an A on any assignments... The quizzes aren't that bad, just make sure you take notes during the lectures. If you show up and do the work, you'll pass, but you have to work for an A.
Szatmary is actually really cool. Even though i struggled in her class, I still enjoyed it. I chalk my grade up to not being geared for 3D and no interesting in going the extra mile for it. Her quizzes are super easy if you read the study guides she makes. Her grading criteria is on blackboard and very detailed, so look at it. She is very fair.
The projects are challenging, but fun. You only have four projects due for the term and you have the same amount of time to work on them. You spend time in class working on the projects as well. Szatmary is also a thorough professor so you learn a lot in her class without you really realizing it.
Makes you put in the time working with your hands but as long as you stay on top of things not so bad and pretty fun. She's hilarious too.
Very funny and entertaining during class. Gave plenty of time to work in class and gave lots of feedback to make your projects the best they could be. I would definitely recommend her.
I loved this class and professor. The journal assignments are focused primarily on color mixing, expect to paint a lot of squares. The 3 projects give you creative freedom and are very fun. The tests are easy if you study. There are outlines of what's due every week. She's funny, caring, organized, and grades fairly if you put in effort.
Amazing Professor! Very down to earth, but also incredibly smart. You're going to have to work for an A, but she's fair. Talk to her if you need anything or any help.
Szatmary is a funny teacher! She is corny. Teaches uniquely by breaking down the projects into small parts before telling you the overall outcome. Givee a lot of work but with time management it can be done and interest in design it will be fun! Her projects allow you to get creative. Class time to work. Nice and just wants to see you are trying!
She is really funny and relatable. Often grumpy. She's a hard grader and won't fully explain the project all at once. She assigns a project in segments, so you won't know what the full project is until the last segment. I also hated almost every project she assigned. She's a tough grader. Follow every direction on the rubric and you should be good
At first I liked this professor; she's funny, sarcastic, and loves to tell you all about her life. However, her projects are tedious and she is unclear about what is to be done. I hated all of the projects that she assigned and on top of it she's a tough grader. Unless you are a descendant of Picasso there is no way you will get an A. Never again.
She teaches material well, but the work she gave out was awful. You have to be really good at either drawing & painting or working on a computer, which means certain classes should've been taken before. She was unclear about what her expectations were for projects. I'd get points knocked off for things I didn't even know I was being graded on.
I love Prof. Szatmary!I found her kind of intimidating at first, but by the end of the quarter, she was hands down my favorite teacher. She realizes that not everyone is going to be great at painting or illustrating, and grades mostly on use of color. As long as you follow instructions, study, and are respectful in class, you'll have a great time!
For color theory the projects were actually interesting unlike some classes where you mix paint the entire quarter. This means the class is overall a bit tougher but she is really nice in helping you with your ideas and execution of them. Critiques are handled a little weirdly and there are way too many tests but I would definitely take her again.
Szatmary is my favorite professor so far. Her projects are okay and could be improved a little on the fun-ness level but you do helpful journal and research assignments before hand. I learned a TON about color theory and her tests were pretty easy. Her lectures were super fun and engaging and she's really sweet but she can get a little snappy
I loved this class, I had her for DSGN 100 last quarter and I could not have asked for a better professor. It is a lot of work and each project has various parts to it but in the end it is worth it. You have to do everything on time or you'll fall behind. Not easy but a really great class.
I had her my first year and although she can be a tough grader, I loved her class. I took her for Color Theory as a result. Lovely lady with a great sense of humor and kind heart. She made learning fun.
Tough but specific on what she means so it's good. Learned a lot about colours. Easy tests except for one which you need to work a little for but nothing
Wonderful to talk to. Understands that we are all on a budget so she chooses projects that are done with cheap/found material. Demonstrates how 3D design is useful outside of class. A very wonderful woman!
Laid back and super great, but you cannot bs projects. As long as you try and ask for help, you're good.
She is a great professor and will make you feel as though you have learned/improved a ton. She gives maybe a bit too much homework and her lectures are awful as she continuously goes off topic. However, if you're up for the workload and want to get better, take her!
Szatmary really was a true gem and was easily one of the funniest and most helpful teachers I've had at SCAD so far.
This professor is a very good choice. It's hard to get an A but hard to fail as well. Her grades are never unfair, they're just very specific. I had a lot of fun during her class as well, since she very much encourages us to be social. Sometimes she would almost complain about how quiet we were. Good choice for class!
She is a very out-going professor and we love her.
You will have a lot of exams in this class, like two weeks for once(Which take 20% of all your grade). Also, you only have one and a half a week to finish your massive project(her topic of each project isn't related to 3D form and space). You also needed to do the process things, which increased your workload. GL with her class if you still alive.
She was okay. She is a fun person but she also wastes time sometimes. I appreciate that she talks with her students, but sometimes I wish she would dismiss us and then talk to whoever because I hate wasting time. She is also very "sassy" as in be prepared for her to roll her eyes at you if you miss class. But she is fun
Really great teacher. So funny and really engages her students. Her class is process heavy so be prepared to do a lot of work outside class to prepare for the projects. My work has definitely improved thanks to her. She knows what shes talking about and has a good personality. Definitely would recommend for 3D design.
Ms. Szatmary really is one of my least favorite teachers Ive had at SCAD. She talks badly about her students while theyre on break. She never gives credit where it due. She never tells you you did a good job, and she is one of the most bitter teachers Ive seen at scad. Shes not evil, but expect her to you guys idiots or even stupid.
People don't give her enough credit to be honest. Yes, she can be a tough grader and hard to read emotions. That being said, as long as you talk with her, take her advice, and give it your all, you'll be fine. She is honestly so hilarious and kind, and she taught me so much about 3D.
Szatmary was one of my absolute favorite professors This year. The projects can be daunting but honestly she gives you plenty of time to work, many past examples, and clear instructions and expectations. Her class was definitely a lot of work (especially the tests Oof) but its college thats kind of the point. Inspiring and hilarious 10/10
She was the greatest ever. Very strict when it came to grading but she was never unfair about it and always communicated requirements beforehand. The quizzes were pretty easy if you listen in class or read through the text once. Her process for coming up with ideas was so different. She was super fun and absolutely hilarious. Highly recommend!
Szatmary is the best teacher I have ever had in my life. She is hilarious, knowledgeable, and an excellent lecturer. While her class is hard she works with you to really improve as an artist. Ive had her for all 3 DSG courses. I started at a low B for DSGN 100 and finished this course with an A. She has remained a wonderful friend and mentor.
First class, She was talking about the other class being her favorite class, no joke. In this class, you won't feel like you're respected by her. If she doesn't like you, she will try ways to ignore you and your work. Prof. Szatmary will speak her mind directly to her students. Be aware of that.
Seriously don't take this class like don't listen to any other review. She's terrible and very rude. She's sarcastic but it's really not funny and is simply mean. She also gives alot of busy work and gives no time inbetween projects. Really just an awful person to be around. Don't take her class you really will regret it.
She has a very particular and funny personality. She's a little sarcastic but in a funny way. I would suggest to never take her comments too personal. She's nice, she knows a LOT and she's very passionate about color. I learned and improved SO SO much. Follow instructions, ask her questions and do your best and you'll do great. TAKE HER!!!
Szatmary is one of the best professors I ever took. She is sarcastic, funny, and really does care and want the best for her students. Szatmary really puts herself out there to give you advice through email or extra help sessions. Although she did not assign the projects herself, she does expect you to work hard. Take her and you will not regret it.
I loved professor Szatmary. I had her for a 5pm and her energy was always great. The work load is manageable just make sure to submit everything on time. It's hard to get a 100 on assignments but a solid 90+ is achievable. Quizzes are moderately easy, make sure to read the textbook and take notes of the vocab words!!!! You'll love the class, I did!
Professor Szatsmary is such a fun, kind teacher and person. She truly cares about each student's success and works hard to explain and demonstrate the work she expects. She once spent nearly an hour with me one-on-one helping me figure out the proportions of one of the projects. Amazing professor, amazing experience!
Prof Szatmary will connect and care about you if you put forth the effort as well. She recognizes and praises students who obviously try their best, even if their skill-level is lower than other students. Definitely take notes on the reading for quizzes because they are difficult without notes! Literally love her & I'll be back to take her for 101
I LOVE Prof. Szatmary. I'm taking her for 3 classes because she's my absolute favorite. She is really engaging and fun and values her students' getting lots of feedback and growing in their work. Quizzes were super easy for me. She's always willing to help you outside of class and office hours. It's impossible to not enjoy her class.
Heather Szatmary is an amazing professor during this winter quarter. The workload did not seem like much as we did WIP check ups twice before the final submission. She gives amazing feedback and helps with any difficulties a person may have. She is also very funny and sarcastic which makes it fun to learn in this course.
I took her for all my design classes, she's my current favorite professor. She likes to have fun with us, but also gives really good feedback as long as you have something to show. We had 3 projects with plenty of feedback opportunities for each. She writes the study guides herself, and the tests are taken between classes.
Be ready for a ton of work. It will help you get better, and thats why you are going to this school, so the workload shouldnt be a turn-off. Be sure to follow directions, because if you are a reliable student, she is more willing to give you the benefit of the doubt and allow you to make adjustments if you realize a mistake after submitting work.
For the first few weeks, she was great, but then she turned overly sarcastic and a little judgy and mean. I talked with her a lot after class and in office hours because I was having issues with Blackboard and she just said, "That's your problem, you better figure it out." She did not help me in the slightest with that or with my accommodations.
Off the bat I didnt have issues with her. After week 1 or 2 she began to give us work (2-4 hours worth) every class due the next class. If your work wasnt ABSOLUTELY PERFECT you wouldnt be scored well. Nothing I or my friends did was good enough for her. She said she didnt care we had other classes to work on during our last project
I had Professor Szatmary for all 3 design classes my Freshman year. To this day, she is still my favorite professor. Dont take her class if you are just looking to get by for the sake of a requirement. She will work you and push you, but no other teacher has grown me as much as she has. She also is hilarious and very caring if you are respected
Professor Szatmary was great. I had her for design 100, and had fun in the class. I had a previous design class in high school so I knew a lot, but it was a fun class overall and she helped a decent amount
Professor Szatmary is one of my favorite Prof. I have ever had. She does the most to make sure her class stays interesting and fun. She cares ALOT about her students and does everything to make you feel welcomed and will help you with anything you need whether is comes to school work or even if you need to talk, she's there for you. TAKE HER CLASS!
She is amazing and fun and cares about her students. The only time I ever saw her be a bit mean to a student was during a critique where the student had not worked on the project until the night before. This student was also disruptive in class and never did any work. If you do your work and ask questions she will help you! Gives great feedback!
Her structure of the class is unsuccessful for actual full-time students. The projects are interesting but our actual time to work on the project was only about one week. Any enjoyment I would have gotten from her class was spoiled by her inability to professionally and respectfully interact with students.
The structure of the classroom and work load is clearly communicated which is great. She is a very difficult grader if she doesn't like your idea for the projects which lessens creativity and passion. Attitude is off-putting in the classroom, it may come off as she expects praise and will make inappropriate jokes to the class. Wouldn't take again.
The class itself can be fun at times and so can the projects. But beware that ideas you have for your projects are restrictive due to the prof's inability to like anything other than her own ideas. Lots of work time is provided in class which is great. Beware of the profs inappropriate jokes and rude comments.
Be aware she has a sarcastic sense of humor and likes to crack jokes (which I liked) She's treats her students like friends. The projects seem like a lot of work(and sometimes was)but she's always checking in to help, show examples, and gives plenty of time to work. Her grading was a little confusing sometimes. Do not take if you put in low effort!
Hated this class. So much effort for such little reward. Grades your quiz answers by her opinion. Doesn't give good feedback before submission, or allow access to grading criteria. Does not accommodate students with disabilities.
Szatmary very easily recognizes the students who put hard work and respect into her class, and returns it in earnest. She's very aware that not everyone taking her class is a visual artist, but as long as you are putting effort into class, she'll appreciate your work and grade it accordingly.
Makes it clear from day one that you'll never meet her expectations, can grade harshly and often assigns unnecessary busy work. As the quarter goes on, she gets increasingly snarky and it can be hard to tell if she's joking or if she really can't stand you. If you put in the work and engage with her respectfully, you should make it out OK.
DO NOT TAKE IT! She was incredibly harsh for a foundations professor. I took her design class knowing 3d design has been a difficult class for some of my friends but Professor Szatmary made it even more difficult with her ruthless feedback and unfiltered comments. Her material was useful but it's overshadowed by her personality. Avoid at all costs
do not take her, she is egoistic and does not give feedback before submission, she just make a easy class difficult
Professor Szatmary is by far one of the most rude and disrespectful professors I've ever had. An extremely abrasive person and feels like you're walking on eggshells whenever she does in progress checks. Expect to be belittled and talked down to if you do not meet her expectations perfectly. Would avoid if you value being treated respectfully.
Shes funny and personable, sometimes negative and at first that was off-putting, if you dont like her at first give her a chance, she is very competitent and interesting and creates a great class environment
Her grading expectations are very clear! She takes time to work one-on-one with students & is willing to slightly bend assignment parameters on occasion to appease student inspiration and creativity. The projects are specific enough not to be confusing but open-ended enough to allow for creativity and vastly different concepts/art styles to thrive.
Prof. Szatmary isn't for everyone. She's sarcastic and has a certain type of humor that can be percieved as "rude" by some. I personally really like her. She is a tough grader, and she knows it, so she gives you clear expectations from day 1. There's 9 weeks of class and 2 make up classes ), so the class sometimes feels cramped. (spring quarter)
Professor Szatmary is very organized and provides a lot of one-on-one time to ensure your projects are going well. She expects students to listen to and follow instructions and understandably gets annoyed when they don't. As long as you pay attention and stay on top of deadlines, her class is enjoyable and not difficult!
While difficult to get along with at times, she knows what she's doing. I learned a lot from the class despite it not pertaining much to my major. The projects are fun if you try to do something interesting. However, she treats her classes more like high school than college, and there were several moments of needless animosity. Still recommend!
Prof Szatmary gives very honest feedback, and she has a clear desire for her students to succeed. You don't have to be amazing at 3d design, but she can tell weather or not you put effort into a project no matter your skill level. She's pretty strict so make sure to keep up with due dates. You won't have any problems if you're a good student.
P. Szatmary was really wonderful. At the begging of the quarter I was a bit thrown off by her sarcasm and random story times, but by the end of it I saw someone who is passionate about what she teaches and a lifelong learner. P. Szatmary does and EXCELLENT job at putting all the assignments with clear guidelines on Blackboard. I learned a lot!
Very harsh sarcasm and unnecessarily high expectations for first-quarter freshmen. Do not take this class if you have accommodations or personal needs, she will likely not accept your requests.
would rather eat my teeth than retake this class with this professor. hope this helps!
Very funny professor and open with her students, I felt like I had ample time to complete her assignments and knew what to expect coming into class every day. She assigns reading but I got an A without it. READ INSTRUCTIONS OVER AND OVER
I ignored the bad reviews but shouldn't have. I assumed people were just sensitive, and I agree, her demeanor is not offensive if you are not a baby about it. She clarified in the beginning to not take it personally. However, her grading criteria is unecissarily harsh for a foundations class, with too much work. Avoid unless its your fr passion.
Professor Szatmary is the best! if you don't understand her humor get a grip and grow up! shes actually the goat! READ THE STUDY GUIDES. she will call you out if you don't, pay attention during class, put those phones down and actually listen to what she has to say. She's super casual but she will tear you to pieces if you don't do anything!
Very blunt. Semi-heavy workload, but imo made it very easy to keep up because of how she divided projects into parts. Very funny and engaging and if your turn in your work and are in class on time she's great, treats you how you treat her basically. Projects were all very interesting, but definitely a lot of figuring stuff out yourself.
I would give her a 10 if I could! Literally one of my favorite professors ever! She's so funny, very understanding and does her best to connect with the class. I'm not into 3D design at all and didn't know what I was doing for most of the class but she was able to help me and her class ended up being my favorite. I can't recommend her enough!
Amazing professor, all her projects are fun and well outlined, she gives great feedback, and she's very funny.
Professor Szatmary is incredibly knowledgeable, and structures class time well. She always comes to class prepared, and she sets clear expectations for homework/in-class work time/deadlines. Project directions are detailed with examples. She goes around each class and gives individual feedback which is very helpful. She is a VERY picky grader.
Don't recommend at all! I almost got a C because I missed class four times even-tough I completed everything in time and completed all quizzes. On my final grade I thankfully got a B, but put 20hours into my final project. If you wanna make your life hell, I highly recommend!
Please do not take her. I overread the bad comments but shouldn't have. Worked more than 20 hours on my final project to just get a “Meh”. So, so happy this quarter is over and I do not have to attend this class anymore. Look forward to sarcastic jokes and mean comments (sarcasm) ;).
really tough but learned so much, great professor
I loved this class! The work was hard but in a refreshing way. Some difficult professors are difficult because they lowkey dont know how to teach. But Prof. Szatmary always gave great feedback and always took the time to help each student individually.
She consistently acted rude and condescending towards students, spoke badly about other students when they weren't there and consistently gave criticism, that usually wouldn't be an issue if it was constructive. Her grading criteria was clear, however scores often seemed lower based on whether she liked you or not.
Szatmary was a tough yet great teacher. It seems like the people who complain about her being disrespectful or rude are the ones who consistently talk back to her or slack off in class. She may be sarcastic, but she's super funny. Her rubrics and assignments are very clear, as she provided lots of examples. Shes a tough grader, but not ruthless.
Pretty tough grader and isn't consistent with any due dates. Making it difficult to work ahead. She also said she's "blunt", but frankly, she's mean to some students for the sake of it. She also assigns an obscene number of tests for what's supposed to be a studio class. Wouldn't recommend if you're a bad test taker and thin-skinned.
This class was not hard and the projects were really fun! She does not tolerate students that disrespect her or her assignments but if you listen to her feedback and enjoy making art you'll have fun in the course.
My experience in Design 100 was unfortunately marked by a challenging dynamic with the professor. Despite my efforts to stay engaged and perform well, I often felt unfairly singled out, which made it difficult to feel comfortable participating or receiving feedback. If you want to have the worst experience please take the class.
Ehhh…She was okay. I'm not very sensitive, so her blunt comments didn't affect me that much. She is blunt and pretty strict though. Sometimes a lil rude to other students. She spoke negatively of students from other class often, using their names. Gave a lot of test for a studio class. This course stressed me out more than my actual Major classes.
Yes she's blunt. Yes she's rude. And Yes she talks about other students when they're not in the room. If you're sensitive, don't take her. But the main issue was the workload. My friend took the same course with a different prof in spring also, I always had 3x the amount of work that she had. A lot of test. Stress me out more than my Major courses
She was extremely mean to students with accommodations. She flirted with the boys in the class. Avoid at all costs
