The lectures are long, and the slides are wordy. The exams don't always reflect what she has been emphasizing in class, and the biggest chunk of grades for the class is in the tests. Daily attendance isn't mandatory, but the day before lab is required to participate in it, which is very reasonable. Don't miss lab more than once or you fail outright

This instructor is not approachable! Very disorganized. Not helpful even when I approached her for help. She's rude, snaps at students and is very unprofessional. Most instructors are there to help and reassure their students in any way they can to help the student be successful in class NOT HEATHER! AVOID!

Heather likes to "try" and be funny but I would rather she taught the material in an organized way making sure her students benefitted from her instruction. She seems to go out of the way to trick you on exams and make it as hard as possible. She likes to keep reminding the class how highly educated and extremely intelligent she is.

She is just a terrible teacher. Directions have never been so unclear in a class. She thinks she is being very specific, but all of her instructions are incredibly scattered and difficult to follow. I've never sat and listened to someone talk for so long and say absolutely nothing. Would not recommend.

The worst teacher I have ever had. She went out of her way to make things difficult, and made numerous mistakes which she continued to blame students for. Even when your answer was correct, it wasn't "the most correct". On multiple occasions I had to get my grades corrected which was a hassle because she wouldn't let me ask without interrupting me.

Walsh is a narcissistic. She treats students like they're already cheaters, doesn't respond to emails, doesn't prepare students for exams. She is very particular about EVERYTHING and knocks points off even when you explain concepts the way she did in class. Students routinely don't finish labs b/c she spends the first 30 min talking about herself.

Walsh is one of the worst experiences I've ever dealt with. She doesn't explain things clearly then grades extremely harshly. She isn't open to student questions at all, especially not during the labs. If you try to ask her something in lab she will basically yell at you in front of the whole class to "ask your coworker, not your boss."

She can not even make eye contact when you ask a question and she acts like you are stupid and bothering her when you do. She has no problem belittling students in front of others. Best to just keep your head down and wait for it to be over. This is by far the worst experience I have ever had with an instructor.

Extremely hard to talk to, doesn't really care for students success, online homework is way harder and nothing like what she teaches in lecture, grades way too hard (impossible to get 100% on a lab report), isn't clear on exactly what she wants, limited office hours, expect to teach yourself a lot of material in the course because she misses a lot.

Due dates on the weekends, first exam only 2 and half weeks in and does not care if you have to work weekends, parent, or both. No flexibility if you work through college, yet she wastes time in lecture with lame jokes. Forces attendance with group worksheets and multiple quizzes. SO DISORGANIZED! Even the lectures go into tangents where she wastes time trying to tell a joke/story about how overqualified she is. She never makes eye contact with students, looks up like something is stuck on the sealing. Her Syllabus is also 17 pages of 4 different colors and fonts, making it impossible to find things. AVOID!

I'm not even sure how this teacher became a professor. Honestly one of the worst teachers I have ever taken. She is disorganized, doesn't know how to communicate with you efficiently. She doesn't understand when students are working their hardest. Save your money and take any professor besides her. I wish I had read her reviews before taking this.

If there was an option for 0 for the rating, I would give her a zero. She grades unfairly and is very mean. If you miss a pre-lab quiz, you will get a zero for the quiz AND the lab report. She won't even accept the lab report. Worst teacher ever.

One of the worst science teacher on campus. she is a tough grader, gives a terrible lecture and really strict. if you are just taking chem 139 and below with her its nothing compared to her 162 courses. All I can say is, Good Luck!!

Heather is very strict on grading lab assignments. Lab is 30% of course grade. Average of lab report is around 15/25. If you dont do well on lab, I could say you should be ready for repeating the same class with another instructor. She is very picky on format, significant figures and so on. These seems simple but will let you lose a lot of points.

I just gave in first 3 days. She is the WORST teacher that i have ever had. NEVER take her class!!! specially when it is online. Before taking the class, I saw the rating for Walsh and I did not believe that this is true and she can be manageable. But NO, test were heavy, labs are really hard, and even quizzes are very freaking hard. Drop this class if you can. If you think youre really good at Chemistry, you can still earn a high grader if you take with another teacher. Theres almost no chance of a 4.0 in this class. By the way, she will give people a 0.0 course grade for people who got two 0s on lab report even they earn a passing percentage.

I saw the bad reviews and took her class anyway thinking that people were over exaggerating. Turns out they were all right, don't take her class. She's unreasonably strict for an introduction class, extremely picky about very small things, and even if you put in a lot of work it's unlikely you'll get an A.

The participation requirement is designed to ensure 25% of the class will fail. I changed my major so I didn't have to take any more classes with Heather. Her courses are known issues. Quite literally the least effective teacher I have ever had, teaches gen chem like its the last course before getting your doctorate. Her lectures are impossible to follow because she is all over the place. Shows no concern for her students, you have to be in class for the group projects but you will learn more on your own.

WORST TEACHER, DON'T TAKE HER! Even if you know the material and do well in quizzes and exams she will take off so many points on the labs for stupid things. I remember I had a lab report that required 5 graphs, I put V.S. (versus) in caps and she took off points and multiplied it by 5 BECAUSE I HAD 5 GRAPHS! How is that related to chemistry?

The teacher's grading requirements were very strict and confusing, especially in the discussion board. Don't try to win points with her. One of her assignments said it would take two hours, but it took much longer than that. She has a crushing amount of homework. She is the most strict teacher I came to edcc.

She said that she's picky because she wants you to do well in future. Actually, it doesn't help after you transfer at all, it doesn't help with your organic chem next year as well. The way she grades work is she takes points off for any reason she likes, she will also give a zero if she wants. This class makes no sense, please AVOID!

Be prepared to study a lot. And make sure to VERY SPECIFIC on how you do the problems because she can be a tough grader ( on things like formula units). I took this class online though which I'm sure made it harder. If I could do it again, I would take this class in-person rather than online.

If you are a chem major, her toughness and pickiness will probably be ok. She prides herself on being hard which is not helpful for an entry level non major class. If you go through her PowerPoints and take notes, do the homework every week, and do the group projects, you still will not perform well in this class. Lots of instructions and she requires units for EVERY SINGLE STEPS for some stupid reasons. If you miss out units in steps, you will lost tons of marks, and eventually, you might be finding yourself almost or failing a midterm/final just because of missing units. The fact that she actually thinks she's doing well as a teacher just boggles my mind. I feel like she tries to act all professional when trying to teach, but that's one of the main reasons why her students don't succeed as much. Normally, I am a 3.9 student. I was warned about the Chem dept before enrolling. I've been a top student all along, How bad could it really be? In a word, if you see this prof. as the instructor, run, don't look back and keep going! The syllabus should be your first clue, 26 pages of self adulation. Not a class for the non-chem major.

Editing my review now that I've had time to reconsider - her grading criteria is unreasonably picky - you can lose like 25% of your lab grade to very very minor errors in formatting. No other professor will be as picky about labs as she is. If you want an A, spend 5 hours prepping every lab - not even joking. Lectures are ok. Goes off-topic a lot.

She does not allow students to contact her outside of 9-5 hours, but has no issues sending you emails about things you've messed up after 9-5 hours. She requires you to start emails with a proper greeting, but she herself does not do that. She pretends to care, but simply does not.

Professor Heather Walsh has Strick late policies. A 0 on all quizzes, assignments, and labs if turned in late. 50% for HW. The second lab she didn't show up to lab and never gave a reason for not showing up. Although extremely strict with how she grades and deadlines.
