Fish is one of the most boring teachers I have had. She is an unfair grader - she bases grades on her own opinion of the subject you are covering. Also, she tends to be rude and gives bad grades to older (30s and 40s) students. She really needs to retire

Hard grader!! Dont take if you have your own opinions. She is rude, and even though I got a B I believe she is an incrediblly unfair grader. Even our kiss-ups did not recieve A's.

This woman is very hard to please, but if you work hard and show improvement she will take that into consideration. She wants all of her students to do well. I ended up loving her
grading is a bit tough, but she's always willing to help. visit during office hours and show gradual improvement, and participate a lot in class and there should be no problem. she may be old, but she's still livin it up. great teacher.

She is a VERY hard grader. Never had a teacher that graded so hard. But she's nice and ALWAYS willing to help you. Write based on her opinion...that's how she grades. she's a little intimidating but you'll end up liking her.
if your not a writter dont take her. she's funny, and you get to do debates, but the writing assignments can really kill you in this class, though its very interesting.

Her grading system is crap you get a bad grade and cant even tell why. Shes a grammar freak and really thinks we should EARN and grade above a C. If your not an Engish major dont take her. And she has something to say about everything.
This class is impossible to get a good grade in. I got all A's in high school english but have not gotten over a C in her class.
I got the highest grade in the class and only got a B. Very hard, very picky about grammar. You can pass but you have to work hard and show improvement.
I had her last year, but she was f****** awesome. At first I thought that I was screwed then realized how much she could teach me and what I could learn from her. She gave me an A-, I could have gotten the A but I didn't try as hard on my last paper.

Grades hard but is worth it in the end. Your writing gets a lot better with all the exercises. Anyone who complains about this class is just lazy. We only write four papers, do a debate, and do a few assignments for the WHOLE semester.Lots of discussions!

Mrs. Fish is a great teacher who actually wants you to learn. I am an economics major so I don’t understand how all these students are complaining. I found the class enjoyable even though it was not my major. She is one of the best professors I have had.

She is a nice lady and I learned a lot, BUT she is an extremely unfair grader. I showed her my final paper before the test and she said it looked real good. I corrected all the errors she marked. I get my final paper back and its a C+ . LAME ****!!!!!!!!!

Basically what is comes down to is, yes she is a hard grader. But if you get a bad grade, it is really because you suck at writing, don't blame her for your lack of talent. Reccomend her. I got an A-

If you try, you will get a grade you want. She does give work out but it is easy if you try it. Come to every class!

This class is interesting but EVERY PAPER YOU TURN IN will come back to you with random scribbles on it that somehow conclude you got a D. On average, only one person gets an A each essay. She says stuff like "in 1 or 2 sentences describe...." THEN she gives it back with an F on it cuz too short!!!!

Really sweet and caring teacher. She truly wants her students to learn and succeed. A lot of work but not that difficult. She is a very hard grader, but is always willing to help. (take your essay to her b4 it is due, she will almost completely correct it for you) Class is interesting, recommended.

She's not helpful. I went to her office hours to ask her about the 1st assignment, she said the work I did looked fine, but when I turned it in officially, I got it back marked with a "C!" She also gives out lots of pop quizzes w/ unclear instructions on how she wants you to go about answering them.
No idea what her assignments are, extremely vague in class. Liberal preaching is annoying, and I AM a liberal. Misses the point in a lot of her discussions. Seems disorganized. Sometimes treats you like a Kindergardener, sometimes doesn't bother to give you any direction before telling you to write.
Hard grader, but an easy teacher. As for the whole liberal thing, if it gets annoying jsut say something. Good arguments are fun and she even encourages it, but then again the grading is tuff.
AWFUL teacher. I am a liberal and I love grammar and linguistics, and can tell you she focuses far too much on grammar and is so ridiculously judgemental and closed minded on her politics that I learned to keep my mouth shut in class and totally ignore content and style in my papers. Teaches like its kindergarden, grades like the gestapo. Avoid!

I never understood what she was asking us to do on assignments. She grades really hard on grammer and lot of times I couldnt understand why I had recieved the grade I did. I would write a paper I thought was really good and get it back with a horrible grade.
By far the worst English teacher I have ever had. In the middle of the semester, the highest grade was a B-. Everything i turned in i got a D or an F on and i did not understand why. I would try harder on the next paper, and get even a lower grade then the paper i completed in 10 minutes. She is absolutely ridiculous. I hate her.
i did my papers to the best of my ability and I got a 68 or 69 [which is a C+] on ever paper! Then on my paper I got a 88!! I completly re worded my previous essays and she probobly did not even notice. She quizzes almost everyweek, the readings were so long an tedious. If you llike to read take her and if you know how to write take her =)

You know I just dont get this teacher. she's willing to help you but she's so vauge that her help is no help at all. Her class is boring, all you do is go over what you've already read. Papers are impossible. She's old and probably stuck in a world of her own grading. If you get her all i can suggest is just get through with the class.

The hardest teacher I've had in my entire life. The class itself was really helpful because she does help you grow as a writer. However, you must be willing to accept frustration because an A is almost impossible and most of the class will get like half the points for any assignment. She is a very nice person though, just a hard grader

This class is not that stressful, but it is very hard to get an A in the class, since she marks you down a lot for little things. Also, do not be late to class as she often gives quizzes in the first 3 min and will not let you make them up

I really like her! She is a very sweet old lady, and a good teacher. Very clear. She grades hard, but she is more than willing to help and wants everyone to do well. Attendance isn't mandatory, but go to class anyway because she assigns random exercises that help your grade...missing them is the only reason I didn't get an A.
Worst prof ever. Had no idea what she wanted from the papers..very harsh grader. She offered to edit rough drafts and give feedback but it never once improved my grade. Quizzes on reading asked about menial details. spent too much time talking about the padres or chargers. no one in class got an A

Very demanding prof. that does not "teach", rather expects results from previous education. When students sign up for an english class they expect to be taught, and not just corrected....

She grades EXTREMELY hard. I was a good writer and came in with an A in AP English from HS. She gave me Cs on all papers except one. Don't know anyone who got higher than a C. Told me that I was probably going to get a B right before school ended and at our last meeting told me "chances are you'll get a C." DON'T TAKE HER.

Funny as a person, not as a teacher. I had the highest grade in the class with a B. I barely got that with hard work too. I am in the honors programs. I thought it would be fine to take her because it fit into my perfect schedule, but it was a MISTAKE. DO NOT TAKE HER IF U WANT A GOOD GPA.
Honestly Professor Fish is tough, but it's only because she truly cares about her students and their success. Professor Fish is a great professor and my writing has improved so much because of her. If you're not willing to work hard you probably won't like her or the class, but if you are she is without a doubt one of the best RWS teachers I've had
I took her class last semester, and I'll we talked about was the presidental election! She didn't teach anything to improve writing skills AND expected students to write like they were english majors. My essay grades got worse as the semester progressed. Everyone in my class got Cs except for the brown nosers that sucked up every day. Dont take her

One of the WORST teachers I've ever had. I always got A's and B's on papers until this class, got all C's and 1 B paper. I tried extremely hard in the class,missed 2 small assignments and got a C. She is so unclear about the essays,the syllabus has about 2 sentences explaining how they should be written and thats it. All she talks about is Obama!!!
Prof. Fish needs to retire. While she does do a great job introducing essays to students, and lessons/handouts to improve their writing, her grading is so unrealistic. Do not expect to get anything but a C on everything. She expects you to write like a professional, but rips you down for not being good! GPA killer! Avoid at all costs.

Mrs. Fish is interesting when she speaks in class and she does cute stuff like give you a hand out when you turn in a paper that exemplifies bad writing in a humorous way. However, she is the HARDEST grader that I have ever had. On my final paper (Which is worth 200pts)she took off 70pts because she didn't like two of my topic sentences for my BPs.

Reads the book about a thousand times beforehand and will talk about politics the entire time. Will grade your papers based on personal opinion and not an academic perspective. If you want a class that will confuse you, go ahead and take this one
Absolutely loved her. She is very clear on what she wants you to write in essays, etc. She is VERY picky but she does it to make us better writers. Really hard grader. Prompts are vague and unclear. You don't know what she's looking for until you do workshops so by then it's too late to talk to the professor about errors. We barely talk about writing. Unclear about Current articles the first time around. Not very good experience.
DO NOT TAKE! You are way better off with another teacher. I always average at least an 85% on any essay I've ever done and consecutively got 60% on essays in this class. Very unclear and just not helpful overall...
Harder than 500 level cls. She will grade you based on opinion not quality. Big on favoritism. She is really nice, though, but dont take her unless its the last class available, and then before you do, try to crash another class. She is old, does not use BB,grades with accounting calculator ( she will give you a receipt),and talks about tea party.

Very interested in politics and current events topics. Strict and picky when it comes to homework and essays but just get on her good side by taking time to discuss scores, improvement methods, etc. and you'll be fine.
This lady abhors anyone who expresses opinions contrary to her own. Her guidance is unclear and her grading is subjective. If your idea of an education is keeping your mouth shut, doing as you're told, sucking up, and having no opinion, this is the perfect class for you!
Wouldnt be such a bad teacher if grading was curved differently. Weights a C from 60-80% so that she can give everyone a 60% on everything and still have a nice pass rate. Very nice woman, with extremely unclear writing objectives and little to no support for improvement. Plan to get a C, and never improve.
Very inconsistent. Is very unclear and unwilling to help you improve your papers. Dismisses class after 25 minutes which wouldn't be so bad if she clarified what she wanted to see in your papers; however, because she dismisses class so early, she expects you to come to her (inconvenient) office hours to get any help.
Extremely unclear on what she actually wants you to do. You kinda have to figure it our through trial and error. The only hard part of the class is her grading your work... she is very picky and won't really tell you about what. Good luck!

She is very old and thus, very old-schooled, avoids technology(only class I had where grades were not posted online). She is a ridiculously technical grader. Do not try to reason with her, she will not accept any excuses. Most classes are completely useless.
Don't take this class if you want an easy B. Teacher is not clear what she wants on paper, she has surprise quizzes so you have to show up every day. She grades ridiculously hard. I think there were one 1 or 2 A- in my class. Lowest grade she gives on a paper is D+ she has 30 points of extra credit out of a 1000 point class.
Horrible teacher! She is so strict and although she looks nice she doesn't care nor does she have compassion for her students. If you do well in english and easily write essays you'll do fine.
She appears nice, but when it comes to essay feedback and help outside of class, she difficult to communicate with and uneager to help you. She's a very hard grader and gives you feedback that leaves you figuring out your revisions and her expectations on your own. If you're willing to go to her office hours and go to class you should be ok though.
her expectations are not easy to understand. She's not clear enough. getting As are really impossible. No matter how much hardwork you put in to, if you're not even slightest of a good writer, classes are confusingly intimidating and would really learning becomes discouraging.

Her critiques on papers are sloppy, making in hard to understand what to work on, diminishing writing improvement on purpose.i doubt she actually cares for her students' well being. expectations seem achievable but it takes a graded draft to slap on your face an unexplained bad grade, emphasized flaws and blind you from your strengths in writing.
If there was a negative score for easiness and clarity I would give it. She puts effort in to help people, but whenever she gives it, I am left with more questions and have to make assumption because I don't want to keep asking questions. She gets really mad too, quickly. This is one of those teachers that being nice and know, still won't work.

Change the first letter of her surname and replace the last two letters of her surname with three more letters and you get the most accurate description for one of the most selfish and useless Professor in all of State.

She marked you down for using too many commas, for not phrasing things the way she would have, etc. I would change each essay according to her comments on the previous essay and she would give the opposite feedback each time. She taught my English 101 class at mesa college. When I say this keep in mind I am a straight A student in all my other classes. You CANNOT hear a word she says, toughest grader you will ever have & giveS you no instruction on assignments. She wrote "Needs proofreading" on my paper.. when the woman proofread it herself. HORRIBLE PROFESSOR.
I personally like Professor Fish, I took her over the summer in a 6 week course and gained a lot from her. She was always there to help, then again our class size was 12 students, so there was a one on one help. If you talk to her before or after class she will tell you what she wants in the paper.
Tough essay grader and assignments every week. No final and no tests. If you don't come to class, you will not pass! Does not accept late work even if you were sick. Go to office hours before you turn in essay for corrections. DONT buy the pocket keys to writers because i didnt use it once!
She's a very nice lady, I liked her a lot. But not as my own professor. Incredibly tough grader, there's no pleasing her. Saves one class for optional editing by her, she edited one of my essays then when I turned in the final draft commented "needs proofreading".
Her personality makes her seem really likable and sweet, but that throws you off into how strict she is in her grading; She cares TOO MUCH about the little things like comma usage and spelling errors that it hurts your essays even if the essay achieves most of her criteria.
Everything said about her is true. I am enrolled for Spring 2015, and I just want to say she's HORRIBLE. I am really considering retaking it with someone else. I can't afford to get a C, toughest grader. She has no mercy, nor is understanding. She's very unclear, and super frustrating. Save your self a bad time.
She is a terrible grader. Takes off point if you don't wrote how she likes. It dosent matter if your grammar is correct, for she has a correct way to state things. Forget about trying to put any personality in papers. In addition, her prompts are unclear and confusing. Avoid her classes
She grades essays tough, make sure you pad your grade well with the numerous other small intermediate assignments.

As a straight A student in High school, I found this to be the absolutely worse and strictest english teacher I have ever had
Love the woman as a person, but hate her as a teacher. She's very reasonable about late assignments if you have a medical excuse, otherwise don't bother asking. She's a horribly tough grader, but once you get a hang of doing her assignments the way she likes it, it get's a tad easier. Just turn in all assignments and talk to her if you're confused.
Very nice person but such a hard teacher to please and an insanely tough grader. Cares too much about minor details and her grading is very subjective. In high school I was a straight A student and got C's on every paper an I am now ending with a B in her class.
Go to optional conference! She will read your paper and give you feedback. She is a tough grader but genuinely wants to make students better writers. There are 4 essays but not too much homework besides that. She is a tough grader but I enjoyed her class.
She's a horrible grader and doesn't not explain assignments. When she gives feedback you can't tell what it says. DON'T TAKE HER CLASS
The absolute worst English teacher I have ever had!!!! I went to optional conference three times had her proofread my paper and guess what she wrote "Needs proofreading". Really women when you proofread it yourself and I went and fixed the errors. I usually get B's on essays but the highest I got in this class was a C.
Very strict grader on essays, show up to the office hours to improve your grade but dont expect higher than an 80%
ok so shes, no joke, like 80 years old. she cares about your writing, but the class itself is so boring because she gives you busy work & reads everything really slowly. but let me tell you, SHE IS A CRAZY HARD GRADER. all i can emphasize is GO TO OPTIONAL CONFERENCE & make the exact corrections on ur essays that she tells you,youll get good grades
Professor Fish was a decent teacher. I was used to getting easy A's in high school English however, in this class I received a B+. She gives a bearable amount of homework but is a very hard grader. She is very critical of grammar but if you write what she wants to hear you can get better grades.
She's a caring professor and can be funny at times but she's not a good grader at all. If I didn't try very hard on the essays I could easily get a C but when I went in to see her and had her edit my paper multiple times she still gave me a C. In addition, attendance matters and you can get away with not reading.
The hardest grader I've ever had. Even my current RWS professor said she's too hard of a grader. Also, she doesn't give very good feedback and seems to care more about the work cited page than the actual essay.
Do not take this class with her!!! Class is easy but when you do essays she grades extremely hard. I repeat do not take!
Boring and tough
Many papers: 3 essays, 10 reading responses, 4 current articles, and in class writing assignments. She is a very TOUGH GRADER! She marked me down 2 points because of a silly error. Punctuality really MATTERS! I was late to class by only 1-2 minutes and she marked one of my papers late and I received a 5 point deduction. BE ON TIME ON DUE DATES.
She's the toughest grader I ever had. And the worst part is I'm not sure what went wrong for the same writing she gives completely different grades with barely any explanation. I went to the conferences and still got a bad grade on an essay. She lets you out of class early everyday tho and the assignments don't take up too much time.
tough grader, lets you out early though. honestly never read but sometimes you do. i would've never got a B+ if she had to leave due to medical problems.
She's a great professor, I highly recommend taking her class. Lots of assignments but super easy to do. 3 essays but pretty straight forward. She always lets class out early.
Professor Fish is a great lady who is just passionate about the subject. Is she a tough grader? Yes. Is she critical? Yes. But it only made me better in the end. As long as you're not a jackass and do your work, come to class, and submit it on time, you will pass with a good grade. Take advantage of her workshops. Always lets us out of class early.
Before this semester I was a bit uneasy about the reviews I read. But boy were they wrong! Mrs. Fish is one of the kindest ladies Ive ever been taught by. This writing class has just three essay's 3-4 pages each. EASY! So easy, she will basically tell us how to write the essay's. I loved coming to class each and everyday and had a blast! TAKE HER!!
I don't know why she has such a bad rating on here! I loved her class. 3 Papers, 8 small assignments from the book, and 4 current event opinion assignments. She is tough on grammar but if you follow her guidelines on what she wants, then its really easy! Definitely go to the optional conferencing, I received A's on all of my papers.
This class was pretty easy. Homework that is assigned is busy work and can be finished in 10mins or less. Essay prompts aren't really discussed in class so you have to figure it out on your own. I wouldn't say that she's a tough grader because I don't think I'm a very strong writer and I received Bs on all essays. However, grading is inconsistent.
An incredibly sweet woman, very straight forward. The toughest grader I have ever taken, but an great teacher. I recommend NOT skipping class, as the in-class activity points truly add up. Don't expect any special treatment, no matter how much she likes you. Follow the syllabus and it's guidelines, and you'll do fine.
Her prompts were very confusing and she cared more about grammar than the actual content of the essays. I went to her for feedback on my papers but in the end she marked me down for things that she told me to change herself. I did not enjoy this class and I do not recommend it to kids who have other difficult classes to focus on.
Essay prompts are confusing and never thoroughly gone over, other than acknowledging them. The reading responses are really easy though. But her grading is very inconsistent and you don't get good feedback either. She's a sweet lady but class lectures usually have nothing to do with the class. I wouldn't recommend if you struggle with writing.
She is the worse teacher i have ever had. DO NOT take. She is the toughest most inconsistent grader. I had a high A in RWS 100 with a seperate professor but a B+ with her. Do not expect her to go over her vague prompt, everything is basically a guessing game for her and her grading is so confusing because she takes off points for random things.
Worst Prof. Ever! Don't even consider taking her class. Useless, Inconsistent and she looses your paper then claims you never handed it in, only to find it at the end of term if you are lucky.

Fish is a sweet lady but the class itself is hard. The highest graded paper in my class was around 85% but it is extremely difficult to maintain an A in that class. The papers are not only unclear but she is a hard grader, if you come to class late she will deduct points. If you leave class early she will mark you absent. This class is a joy...
She is an absolutely awful teacher who doesn't care about teaching or her students. She grades extremely unfairly and will fail you even if you do all of the assignments and ask for extra help. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. Trust me... I would have rather taken a class at 7-8 o'clock rather than take this again.
Professor Fish is not the worst but not the best professor. Directions were always unclear on essays/work in general. Fish graded mainly on grammar and not on what you actually write. Attendance not really mandatory as she tells you when everything is due, except some days she gives random points for "in class assignments".
Shes sweet, her assignments are fine, go to class, sometimes on fridays she does give it optional to come. She is a hard grader, mostly looks at grammar mistakes. 8am with her is a little boring especially if you commute. JUST GO TO CLASS AND DO WORK AND YOULL BE FINE. For essays make sure to ask others for help besides her.
This is the only class I have ever failed in my entire life. I had the flu and was hospitalized, and she never let me turn in papers late. She doesn't work with her students, and her essay prompts are vague and unhelpful. When I took RWS 200 with another professor I got an A, so I would highly recommend avoiding this class. She's terrible.
Professor Fish is the harshest grader I have ever experienced. I went in for help on an essay and corrected my mistakes... still got a C on it, her feedback was not helpful. She will mark anyone down for being even a couple minutes late. Extremely hard to keep an A. I strongly recommend taking ANY other prof for RWS 200.
One of the worst teachers that I've ever had. Extremely difficult, tough grader, doesn't explain herself clearly... more than half of my class either dropped out or got an F because of her teaching methods. Do not take this teacher!
Her class is easy, with 3 major essays and some small assignments. Very tough grader, the main focus on punctuation. She does not explain why she took points from the essays. Very boring class, she does not explain properly and is very confusing.
I had to deal with having to guess what the requirements were for our essays. I barely passed the first one and failed my second one. There wasn't feedback to what could have improved. Her other assignments are simple, and she's nice, but her ways of teaching could REALLY be improved. My main problem was that she didn't properly give instructions.
Taking her class during covid- she's ok. She doesn't give any feedback on papers. If you want help, I would reach out to the fellow. Follow her syllabus religiously as it has the essay requirements. The writing exercises and reading responses are easy but stay on top of those as they really add up.
Hedda Fish is by far my worst professor (out of my 6 current professors). She has little to no knowledge of technology, but you can't blame it all on her due to her prehistoric age. After making obvious errors that the entire class notices, she attempts to blame it on the students by coming up with whimsical excuses, never accepting any blame.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU DON'T HAVE TO!!! First off she's not a mean professor by any means but having her online was horrible. She explicitly said that she hates giving As out and said she rarely gives Bs out as she complained about how high the class average was! Like what professor wants to see their students fail?? Fish does...
Prof Fish is super nice and caring, but I hated this class. She cannot use zoom to save her life. Class is pointless bc we just read aloud our hw responses, but you still have to go. The prompts are absurd and she's a very tough grader on the essays, but gives NO FEEDBACK. I did not learn anything in this class, except READ THE PROMPTS CAREFULLY
She was below mediocre, very tough grader and not much help for improvement. Better luck taking it with another professor
You wont learn anything in this class. Attendance is mandatory but all you do is tell the class what you wrote in your last hw assignment (no feedback either, literally pointless). Essay prompts are extremely confusing and she does not explain what she is looking for. Also, toughest grader ever and gives like two sentences of feedback on essays
Prof Fish didn't know how to use zoom at all. I get tech could be difficult for elderly people, but we have been online for over a year. The homework was easy but if you don't show up to class, you get 1/2 credit. She was a super tough grader on essays. Our TA did literally everything so shoutout to her.
I think she's at retiring age... She doesn't really give feedback and gets her instructions mixed up a lot. She didn't know how to use Zoom. She takes attendance which takes half the class time. Class is just reading what you wrote for homework. I had a really busy month so I skipped 1 of 3 essays and got a B. Her TA does most of the work.

Professor Fish's RWS100 class is a mixed bag. While she's a nice person, the class structure and grading left a lot to be desired. Lack of feedback and unclear instructions made the essays a struggle. However, using unstuck study and the provided textbook helped me get through it with a decent grade.
