she needs more time to create a better teaching style! she needs to be more clear in her lectures and less confussing.
Her study guides are not very helpful when it comes to study for the test.Exams don't really reflect much on the study guide. Also, she is too quick..
She definetly cares if you do well or not and she is very cheery. She still talks to fast but atleast she is aware. I would say she needs to choose what to teach and choose what to ignore from the book so she can focus. she is just trying to cover to much material. Nice gal.
For this class, you want clarity. She speaks really fast. Her lecture is really confusing. I will not take class with her again.
The study guides very helpful. She is interested is seeing students learn. She may be a bit disorgazied but if you can take care of yourself then that shouldn't have any affect. If you need someone to hold your hand and give you the answers then this isn't the instructor for you.
She is awesome! Very prepared and gives helpful study guides. Helpful out of class if you have any questions. Makes things easy to understand. I owuld take any class from her in a heart beat! I transfered out of McGuiness' class to hers. I was teaching myself in McGuiness' class. Best transfer I ever made!
Outstanding instructor. She doesn't talk down to anyone and she's tough on people but she's also fair minded. Knows how to inspire and motivate. Passionate about her subject, it shows.
She loves teaching this class and it shows. She is a dedicated teacher and makes herself available if you need some extra help grasping a topic. If you are interested in the subject matter this class is really fun.
Best science teacher I've ever had. She talks fast, but there's a lot to cover (i.e., get over it). She loves the subject and wants everyone to succeed. I'm just sorry she's not teaching the next class I'm taking at NSCC.
Great class and lecture.
Heidi is a great instructor. She will challenge you but she is a lot of fun. She knows she talks fast, there is a lot to cover. Read prior to class, study like mad and you will do well. I recommend her highly. I am currently taking 214 from her.
Amazing instructor, dedicated to her work, always prepared and willing to answer questions. She makes lectures enjoyable.
Knowledgeable & makes herself available for questions. LOTS of work doing lab papers & drawings. Tests are multiple choice, T or F, matching, with a lot of fill-in the blanks & short essays. I wasn't impressed with her lectures, flips back & forth with her P.P. slides, hard to follow along, talks too fast for notes. Very slow at grading papers.
I have taken several classes at NSCC and this was by far my favorite. Her tests are challenging but she's a fair grader and has several extra credit options. She's very good at interacting with her students. She requires histology lab drawings (in addition to lab reports) which are painful, but you get used to it.
Awesome instructor. You will get your money's worth out of her class. Super-competent instructor with significant technical depth. Able to teach and explain subject mater at undergrad and graduate level. Works you hard and gives tough tests, but you will have a sense of accomplishment after her class and know the material.
Best professor I have ever had.
Heidi is such a great professor. She really knows her materials and she is really enjoyed teaching the class. Her tests can be very difficult. Lot of assigments also. Well, that is ANP! Overall, she is a very helpful, funny and best ANP professor. I would take her class again!
She is very smart and she was the only reason that I stayed in north seattle community college after taking very bad and unprofessional teachers. I would recommend all people to take her classes.
Heidi is great. I have basically failed her class and I still think that she is one of the best teachers at North. I took too much on myself with work and full time school, she tried to help me but I still gave up. ANT is one of the hardest classes in college and she makes it fun. And yeah, she is hot!
Girl is built to rock.
AMAZING! I took Bio at both UW and at North Seattle, and Heidi was by far the better professor. She is SO caring about her students, incredibly helpful and understanding, passionate about the subject, and so knowledgeable. Highly recommended :)
heidi rocks. I didn't do too well because I'm older and had never been to school before and she was totally understandng and helpful . It also helped that I am totally into the subject matter. Her class helped me get into a Masters program and she even wrote me a reference letter. Very professional yet not annoyingly so .AWESOME. Thanks, Heidi !
I took Heidi when I first started college. Since then I have had several teacher and realized she is the best one I had ever had. The content of the class was not easy but she honestly made it some what fun and helped us understand. She's very smart, fair and helpful. Take any biology from her. You will still have to work for your grade tho.
Amazing professor. The class is challenging, but I learned a ton. She understands that most people in class are heading towards the health care profession and really takes that into account when teaching. She might be taking a little break from teaching coming up, so if you get the chance, take her class!!
Heidi isn't a very personable teacher. She was very poor at reaching out to her students and about 1/3 of the class either stopped going or were doing so badly because her teaching style is rushed. She is not good at responding to emails. In fact, she completely ignores some. There are positives to her. Read the other reviews for those comments
Dr. Iverson is so energetic in lecture! She answered all questions, which led us to fall a little behind sometimes, but she was really clear and helpful in lecture and lab. She always comes across as really caring. She is really organized, clear about what to study for exams and responsive in email.
This class would have been cool if we didn't have to listen to Heidi talk about her kid in between the uncomfortable sex jokes. She knows what she is talking about for sure but Is as personable as a rock. It was like she was there to get her paycheck and could care less of her students success rate.
Very animated and engaging. The class is hard, and she asks for a lot, but I finished feeling very strong in the class. She is funny, unless you are a prude. Then she is offensive.
I took her hybrid class and did really well. She's pretty helpful, answers most of the questions. Pay attention to her slides, there will be things on her exams directly from the slides. You'll have about 5 exams, and 3 lab quizes. Pretty intense class, and prepare to spend a LOT of time on studying and doing labs that are very time consuming.
I adore this teacher. She is funny and nice and approachable. I would highly reccommend her!
I like her teaching style; she makes harder to learn things easier with animations and analogies. She doesn't always know her stuff though. Contradicts the text book pretty often and can't answer some basic questions about the material. If you're just looking to get through it, go to class, read her slides and do the labs. Don't ask questions.
I loved this teacher. She made an otherwise stressful class approachable and fun. I definitely recommend her.
This class was definitely not easy but she made it interesting. She is pretty clear and informed and her power points are very valuable. SHe is a mostly fair grader although she likes to throw in trick questions here and there and you really have to know your stuff. Overall a good class but be prepared to work hard.
I took the hybrid class this summer and i would never recommend it! Heidi was scattered unclear and unrealistic about grading. Heidi just whipped most of us into a frenzy and was very unforgiving with the grading. Moral was low for most. A real let down since I loved her bio 241 class and would still recommend it. But I would not recommend hybr
She regularly offers to answer questions, but almost never has the answer. She doesn't find the answer and get back to you next class either. I'm very disappointed. I don't think teaching is her gift. She should switch careers.
Never take a class from this woman. Her attitude stinks. She said that her goal was to make people drop her class. Which they did. She just stands at the front of the class and lectures. She often said,"you should know this already." She used the fact that it was a hybrid class as a reason to not review material. She misses her office time often.
Being an academic scholar I do not get Heidi's idea of teaching as a professional. She does say she is on our side, yet constantly blames "Hybrid Class" as to why she is not teaching the entire subject. Lectures are short and wildly fast, does not teach important items. Exams and quizes often have items not in lecture. Caution, take another prof
I liked her. Hybrid was hard, tests were hard, content was hard, but she was honest about it, and I never heard anything negative come from her. I am glad she was my teacher because I worked really hard to learn in her class. She makes sure you have lab time. I will be taking her again for 242. Its never boring in that class, thats for sure.
I think Heidi has become too busy with her personal life to be a good teacher. She CONSISTENTLY blamed the hybrid form of class for being the reason she couldn't teach all the material which made me feel like I was missing out on a lot. I would recommend that students don't take hybrid classes unless they want to teach themselves out of the book.
Heidi is one of the best professors I've ever had. A&P is a hard subject, but she makes the material much easier to understand. Her lecture notes are amazingly helpful. She demands a lot from her students, so if you're not prepared to put in the work, you shouldn't be taking her class. If you're serious about learning, this class is great.
Heidi is fast paced and energetic in her presentation. She is an engaging teacher and very thorough. Her hybrid format is challenging, but provides lots of study materials to work from. She works hard to give students good power points. Not the professor you want if you are lazy or don't like to study. I feel like I learned a lot from her.
Heidi is so dedicated to the art of pedagogy. She even came to class the day she went into labor! Found a good substitute to finish out the quarter too. The BEST professor I've had at North
Excellent teacher!! Awesome, clear powerpoints, really cares about teaching her students! One of the best instructors I have ever had. You have to put in the time with this class but she provides the most amazing tools for learning.
Heidi is one of the best teachers I ever had. Even though she is hard I felt like I learned a lot, the information was there and she was very interactive with the students. You could tell she really enjoyed doing what she did and that she found her job rewarding. She made me want to work hard and she is awesome.
Recipe for success with Dr. Heidi: read the textbook thoroughly. Utilize the links she posts on the class website. Study at least 3 hours a day. I'm a parent and I work two jobs, and if I can find time to do it, so can you. Work hard, and you will be rewarded for it.
This class was not easy by any means and Heidi does nothing to make it any easier. It's already a difficult enough topic without her trick questions on all the quizzes/tests. She is on a mega power trip. She doesn't allow enough time on tests to actually finish. She can't clarify effectively when asked a question in class. Avoid at all costs.
This class is the last class I will be taking with her. Not enough time for tests, learning new material for an exam the day before, and the list goes on. You literally have to read the book, follow the powerpoint and use other tools to study with. In her words, she is separating the 4.0's from the 3.9's.
Heidi is by far in her own world. She cannot clarify or answer many questions asked, and is unwilling to research. Consistently says she is on "our side" yet is willing to rate people down on wildly unrealistic exams, assignments, and quizes. Don't take!!
Heidi is by far the best teacher at North that I have taken any classes with. She is extremely clear and organized in her teaching style. She cares very much if her students are understanding her materials. Her tests are long, but there is ample opportunity to receive a good grade in her class. Anat and Phys is hard so people will complain.
Hard work needed in this class. But Dr Iverson makes what you need to know extremely clear. She is very well organized and provides ample resources for further study. Steps for sucess #1 Read the chapter, #2 read her PPT slides, #3 reread what you dont understand.
Iverson's class was very straight forward. She expects a lot out of her students but as long as you study what she tells you to you will do fine. I got a 4.0 and so did my friends. She offers tons of extra credit.
Heidi is very, VERY fast paced. She definitely knows what she is teaching and does well at it. BUT you should only take her if you are serious about learning. You will easily do bad if you don't study long hours everyday. Believe me, I got a B but felt like I could've done better. It was just really fast. Overall I liked having her.
This class was awful. I stopped going to class (except for required labs) after the first half of 241 and just watched UW lectures at home instead (and my grade improved! I got a 4.0 both quarters) She had no clue what she was talking about, couldn't answer questions, students corrected her constantly, she was disorganized... just a terrible class.
Awesome professor. Take the class with her if you want to learn *and* get a good grade. Put in the time, and you'll do both.
This professor likes her clique of students that are just like her. She confuses everyone while on her tangents, cannot clarify the subject, and is not organized. She only wants people--young women that resemble her to succeed. There are better profs available, I challenge you to find another so you can prevail.
I really enjoyed the lectures and labs for this class. Heidi does an amazing job of explaining some of the more difficult concepts and provides a wealth of resources to supplement the text. It is not an "easy" class but was graded fairly and the amount of work is consistent with the credit hours. Highly recommended!
I was hesitant to take this course but I'm sure glad i did. Heidi is an awesome professor, Interesting & clear lectures, extremely fare on exams, excellent at explaining complicated subject matter, & maps out exactly what she wants you to know. This class requires tons of studying and long hours but if put in the work it pays off. Heidi rocks!
Heidi is a wonderful teacher. I was really hesitant to take this class (I had a terrible experience with a different instructor in the past) but I am so glad that I did. If you are looking for a class where you don't have to try; then this isn't the class for you. If you want to actually learn something you will carry with you forever; take her!
If you enjoy learning things on your own this class is for you! Attending lecture was basically mandatory (she grades participation and covers potential test questions only in lecture) but her delivery is very fast and confusing. Reading the text book is a must and will be your savior. If you apply yourself to the max, you can do well.
I felt that Heidi talked at us, rather than taught us. Her lectures are VERY fast, exams are LONG. Attend lecture and regurgitate what she says in class onto your exam essays. Work with a study group, don't procrastinate. She's very picky on Take Home Exams and essay questions. Make sure you UNDERSTAND rather than memorize and you'll do fine.
Lectures fast , one and done on key concepts. Not for lecture learners. It was in the book its fair game. Thinks CC a fair comp to grad school Freely admits its more than 5 credits of work but all the classes struggle so its ok. (um yea)wants a cadaver lab that would be insane, not enough time now. Needs to teach at university not CC.
I really enjoyed her class. We had a 2 hour lecture period and most days it would fly by. She goes really quickly, but if you keep up with the work load and bring the slides to lecture its easy to follow. Her assignments are all relevant and prepare you well for her tests. She is super knowledgeable and more than happy to help with any questions
Heidi's a talented teacher, but this class, which is required for people going into health care professions, is insanely paced. The two course sequence should be three. I enjoyed Heidi's presentation style immensely and I call BS on the person who said she only likes her clique of pretty young girls to succeed. No way. Everyone is treated fairly.
She does lecture fast, but if you are paying attention, she sprinkles humor throughout. I have really enjoyed her class.
Worst teacher I've ever had. Doesn't know how to teach, just talks you through her power points which are disorganized, incomplete and confusing. She cant focus on what needs to be learned or what will be on her tests. Loves to trick her students with surprised questions on tests. Long and super detailed tests. Study guides are not helpful at all.
She knows her stuff and is very passionate about what she teaches. She loses interest in teaching you when you lose interest in learning. Her style isn't my favorite. she uses a lot of anthropomorphic analogies that confuse me. don't expect partial credit for answers and you should ask questions as she lectures for clarification. Would take again.
Really good professor teaching a really good intro class. If you want a good introductory biology experience, she's the one for you. Goes into detail, but doesn't expect complete regurgitation on exams. Very interested in the topic and makes the class fun!
Loved this instructor. HARD material but she makes it enjoyable. Gives study outlines for exams. Long lectures but worth going to class for. Put in the work and you'll do fine- don't expect an easy A. Pay attention in lecture- she hints at things that are being tested. She's flexible and understands life happens. Would definitely take again.
She's not easy, but the difficulty level is very reasonable considering most students are becoming nurses. Try hard, go to lectures, make good review sheets, and you will do fine. She's funny, which makes the lectures go by pretty quickly. One of my favorite professors ever in my 6+ years of university level education.
Heidi is a really good teacher in some topics in this class but obviously has trouble explaining some other things. She will work with you and if she thinks you are trying she will take extra time to explain things. She is caring but she goes very fast and it is useful to voice record her lectures. Pressure her to do panapto, she has started to.
I enjoyed listening to the lectures because she makes them funny and interesting.
Heidi is awesome. Her lectures are good but make sure you read material to be prepared for the exams. Shes really accommodating
Heidi is a great professor, caring, funny and she keeps lectures interesting even when the material is dry. This is a very tough class though and you should only take it if you can dedicate lots of hours to studying and homework each week. Its fast paced, lots of material and the exam format is harder than 241. Stay on top of it and ask for help.
Heidi is my favorite professor I've ever had. That being said, her class is the most difficult thing I have ever done. Getting an A in this class takes complete dedication. She is very willing to meet with you and talk about things one on one. She is the most entertaining lecturer I've ever had and her knowledge is unreasonably extensive.
this was her first quarter completely online because of covid. I do not recommend taking her online but she will probably never teach online unless she needs too. She treated class online like it was in class. She was not made to teach the class online. She was not respectful with how stressful it was taking it online and used honorlock for exams
It's clear she's passionate and knowledgable about what she teaches. This was her first quarter completely online, and it was really challenging. Most lectures are a solid 1.5 hours, talks FAST. Dedicate lots of time for this class. It's hard but possible. 4 exams. Weekly quizzes & labs. Not much extra credit. Uses Honorlock for exams. Fair grader.
There are so many reasons to love this professor! She is absolutely brilliant and her knowledge goes forever. Ask her anything and everything biology related and she can help you. I took her for the A&P series as well and I would re-listen to her lectures many times for informative and comedic value. She is an AMAZING lecturer.
Heidi is one of the best professors I've ever had. I took both her Biology 241 and 242 to fulfill nursing school prerequisites. Yes you will work hard, but you will also learn (and retain) a ton of incredibly useful information. Participation helps a lot in her classes. She's an incredibly engaging and funny teacher who wants students to succeed.
Worst experience in a online class setting. She is very disorganized in her lectures where she starts one topic and moves on to the next in a blink of an eye making it difficult to actually retain information. Very tough grader even a miss spelled word and she’ll deduct you.
she read homework so badly! gives very low points even for extra credit pages she seems to not wanna give higher points. you won't see the exams' answers which are not understandable! struggle to understand why she gave low points and just write all time why even you're sure for the answer. she explains normal lecture but has higher expectation!
From my experience, I learned a lot from her about biology concepts that I had little-to-no knowledge about. The labs were fun, interesting, and informative. Grades are not particularly hard because there are only 3 exams and 3 homework assignments; the rest are in-class or labs. Highly recommend even if you're not particularly interested in bio.
Her setup for Canvas is messy. Grading is all over the place, makes quite a lot of mistakes for her quizzes. Has responded to emails that needed to be at least semi-timely, days late. Do not get sick in her class, she doesn't care. Miss an assignment because you were sick? Your responsibility. Bottom line; pretty easy class but wouldn't recommend.
Heidi is a great professor and she genuinely cares about the material and teaching it. Her canvas is not unorganized like other reviews stated. 241 is a hard class with tons of reading required if you want to succeed. If you are not capable of applying effort then you will fail. But she wants to help you and she will.
be prepared to do an incredible amount of independent studying. concepts are not well explained or emphasized throughout teachings. have an established background in organic chemistry. does not explain labs. most difficult grader i have ever had. will make exceptions for certain students. no feedback. test expectation of students exceed teachings.
Instructor is very well organized with a clear layout of required content in Canvas modules. Instructor also provides a wealth of additional content for students to use to prepare for exams and better cement their learning. Approachable and builds time into in person meetings to ask questions and get help. Instructor organizes Biology tutoring.
The instructor has a wonderful sense of humor, & I thoroughly enjoyed the recorded lectures. There were ample opportunities for extra credit, the expectations for what to know to ace exams was clearly presented in exam study guides, and the labs were relevant & creative. Never thought I'd have fun learning, but I did with Dr. Iverson this quarter!
please do not take Heidi, she is worst instructor I've ever had in any subject. Very tough grader, does not care about student success. displays personal biases towards students, hard to reach and unapproachable. The only reason she continues to be at north is because she is tenured and everyone else left, otherwise I'm certain she would be fired.
I toke bio 160 with her and it was a difficult class. But she was more then willing to help you understand the material and gave you lots of online lectures and PowerPoints to help you understand what's going on In class. Very excited to have bio 241, 242 with her because she actually cares and will explain things to you till you fully understand
Heidi was a wonderful professor! She is passionate about what she teaches and gives lots of extra credit. If you stay on top of your work, participate in class and study, this will be one of the best classes you'll ever take.
