she's my TA this quarter so im not sure how she'll be as a professor, but judging from section, probably really organized. gives extra homework but that stuff helps with understanding the material (plus that's b/c shes a TA). i pretty much made up my first few writing assignments and got really high grades for them. really clear and helpful.

Spring 2005 is her first quarter teaching. But I had her as a TA for MMW 2, and she was very helpful. She is genuine, intelligent, and really cares about her students. I expect that she will be a great professor, though her exams might be a little difficult.

i also had her for mmw2 section, and i was always impressed with how methodically she teaches. as a professor, i expect her to be thorough and organized, but definately not an easy A.

Nice lady but hard as hell! Clear like evrryone says but not as helpful as they say. I have her next quarter so best luck to me and all of you!

Focuses on how to make the course interesting and get you involved. A lot of reading but not all of it is necessary, she'll tell you what to watch out for. Excellent teacher who wants you to succeed but also expects you to be engaged with the material. Easy so long as your essays/presentations are to the point and you answer the question directly.

There is so much material covered in class, and her lectures do not correspond well with the reading material. She gives us 107 terms and something like 35 s.a. questions to study for the Midterm, only 10 terms and 2 short answers on the ENTIRE thing. She expects a huge amount of detail, when we have to study a huge amount of subjects already.

i think that at the beginning she was a bit disorganized but it is her first time teaching. she got much better with Europe (her specialty) and she really isnt as bad as people say she is, and she is really sweet and friendly in person.not the easiest to follow but not too hard to get an A on tests.

definately needs to get comfortable lecturing because she doesn't seem able to get along without reading directly from her notes 90% of the time. course reading is ridiculously extensive, but not totally boring. what's really annoying is that you're given a study guide of 100+ terms and only a few were arbitrarily chosen to show on the midterm.

I think she's the most interesting MMW professor I've had thus far. I disagree that she is boring, just because she reads her notes when she lectures. Who cares if she has her lectures memorized? I think she's a good edition to the MMW professors, because unlike most, she actually kept me interested in lecture. I would definitely recommend her!

people are being a bit unfair when rating her because this was her first time teaching a huge MMW class and her specialty is not Chinese history or Russian history; it's French history. she was very helpful in office hours, really a kind person, and worked really hard and i've taken both MMWs with her and have gotten A's. not as bad as people say.

She REALLY sucked for MMW 4, but she drastically improved for MMW 5. Her tests are really straight forward and easy. I only started studying for the final the night before and got an A+. Give her a try, she has gotten much better.

Keller-Lapp has good intentions, however MMW4 is not her area of expertise so it was a little dry and boring. Her speciality is France 1600-1800 - right on the line between MMW4/5. If you go to office hours she's really helpful and friendly. Her exams are straightforward if you go to class and do the readings. She's not as bad as everyone says...

shes not as bad as people think. she didn't seem to be an expert in mmw4 so she used power points, but she gave study guides and tests weren't too bad. depends on how your TA grades them. i had Edmond(a professor) as a TA so he graded a little tough. but keller lapp is nice and open to opinions and questions of students.

good lecturer. gives a study guide. tests are fair. TA's are the problem. Avoid Adam Wilson. He grades very hard compared to the other ta.

I came into Keller-Lapp's class expecting the worst after reading the reviews from bellow. However, I found that Keller-Lapp was an OUTSTANDING professor. She is VERY knowledgeable and helpful. Then again, I've never taken her for MMW, but for European Reformation, she rocks!

I actually liked her. She prepared us for the midterm and test with study guides, has no passages/slides, and is extremely helpful with research essay. her notes are better organized then some professors i have taken, but MMW 5 is her expertise.

I have taken BOTH MMW classes with her. I got an A in BOTH of those classes by going to class, paying attention, and reading. Seriously, most of you taking MMW hate it because your science majors, but it's not as bad as you think. Rate her after you've taken your major classes. Science prof's suck and don't care about their students like Heidi does

This was an upper div. summer course that had only 8 people in it. The material was tough, but, if you showed up, listened, and did the reading you got an A. I showed up to OH and asked for a letter of rec. She's super nice, always helpful, and eager to show that she cares about her students outside of the classroom; you can actually talk to her...

I too think I was too hard on her before after taking Herbst. She's definitely pretty okay. MMW is not a course I enjoy (and no I'm not a science major), but I still think she could have some improvement. Maybe stop teaching by themes.

Her midterms are detailed because of the passages, but she reviews the important passages of the readings (basically listen!) She gives lecture study guides and gives final essay question ahead of time. She is friendly, helpful, and interesting! I highly recommend her!!!!!

I guess I am the first to give her a Chili pepper. However, she is a great lecturer and teacher but you are going to have to work for your grade. This is not the class for you if you want to skate by and not put forth a considerable amount of effort. Her style of lecture is not for the weak, but it is well worth it in my opinion.

As a Prof...nothing special, though not bad. If you were unlucky enough to find yourself transferring into ERC, don't take 4T. The majority of people I talk to spend more time on this class alone than all of their other classes combined (including engineering majors). It's a really miserable way to spend your first quarter at UCSD.

I have no idea what everyone is complaining about. This teacher gives you study guides which ARE the exam! This is a history class, reading is mandatory. Regarding the person who said she was opinionated, history has a liberal bias ;). I also had Emily Pace as the TA, she was tough, but the hardest part about it was the meeting time @9 AM in ERC...

I thought Keller-Lap was a good lecturer with a clear audible voice. Her class is pretty straight-forward. Her midterm and final were also very straightforward --no tricks. I enjoyed her course.

Not very difficult, just keep up with the readings and go to lecture to do the clicker questions.

Extremely helpful. She cares a lot about the class. She is extremely receptive to learning from her students. There is a lot of writing but it isn't graded hard at all. You need to show up because she knew everyone by name.

Great professor, reading material at times can be really boring but her lectures made them okay. Clicker quizzes almost every day but because of that no mid term.

I don't understand this negative feedback at all. Prof. K-L explains the material wonderfully and provides plenty resources to help every student succeed. The reading is extremely short but necessary to grasp the course's concepts. Don't be a fool- ask for help if you need it and use the resources provided by the school if you're struggling.

She worked together with another prof for a freshman seminar, which was essentially MUN for the French Revolution. Great class, she only intervened when she really had to. Gave good short lectures in between, to give us more concrete info on France at specific moments. Very friendly lady.

Great professor. Good about of reading overall, but loved her teaching style and was very caring. Would recommend!

The difficulty of this class is largely based on the TA's, however, Lapp makes the rubrics accessible early on and you will know what you're getting into early on.
