Worst class i've ever taken. It seems as though she has no clue what she's doing!! she just mumbles and writes down things on the projector that make no sense. Quizzes and tests do not line up with what she teaches. Thank god for SI sessions and tutors, or else i would've failed this class. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!!
Super awesome prof. I loved her class, offered extra credit and changed the way she lectures so more people would excel on the tests.
Once she got in the hang of teaching she was amazing and her teaching has helped me to understand everything very well. She is helpful and her notes are very detailed making the class easier. She also makes jokes while teaching and it lightens up the class' mood. "Fertilization, Something none of you have practiced" Highly recommend her!
I'm taking her online biology class and she grades very harshly, so it's practically impossible to get a high A in anything. Her quizzes aren't fair either, because they don't let you go back to look over your answers to make sure you answered everything correctly. I'm having the worst experience in her class. I wish she would help more.
I would not recommend taking professor T's class. Her test averages are constantly around 60% and she constantly blames it on lack of student effort. Her test difficulty is insane, one of the hardest college courses I've taken so far.
Make yourself known in Professor T's office hours. By no means is this class easy, but it is not impossible if you take the time to get the work done, go to tutoring, and study a lot. Professor T is not fair by any means, much of what is tested on is more in depth than what the lecture covers and the quizzes are not uniform which is frustrating.
Professor T has incredibly difficult exams. This class isn't impossible to pass, but takes a ton of work. Exams covering things in much greater detail than any of the lectures. She's willing to work with you as long as you make yourself present in office hours. This course goes into much more detail than other BIO181 sections.
this is a very difficult class in general and it is based solely on lectures. she talks the whole time and then it is your responsibility to interpret it and study. And the exams are not even close to the study guides & so overall it is a very hard course. it is possible to do well but you have to work your butt off and cry a lot but it will be ok!
Her exams are difficult because she uses real life application that isn't really discussed in lecture. You really have to pay attention to every detail and go to study sessions if you want to get an A.
Tests are really hard, anything you want to learn you have to do on your own and nothing in the lectures is on the test.
Honestly BIO181 is already a hard class and Trathnigg just makes it even more difficult. You could study for her exam a week before and feel confident, but the exams will always go into deeper depth than the reading or lectures did. She also put in real life situations into the test that she's never explained before... it was rough.
Trathnigg was not the best. The tests were wayyyyyyyy more in depth than anything ever taught in the lectures. There was one chance for extra credit but that is only because the average for my class on the first exam was in the 40%. I am a great student who studies hard and I ended with a 90.4 in her class. I got one A, an F, and 3 C's on the exams
WORST TEACHER EVERY. Exams never matched up to the study guide or even content we learned in class. The exams were so hard and asked for the most specific things ever. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PROFESSOR.
Weekly, there are 2 chapters to read (both have quizzes), homework is always 30+ questions, ALL notes are to be hand-written and turned in, and then 2 more quizzes. So, on average 5 to 6 quizzes a week. I took online, so there was also 3 required board posts due 3 days into the week. She is also a VERY HARD grader, I'm usually an A student.
This is the type of class where you have to have a passion for biology to achieve an A. It is defintely a class you have to work hard for. I see people here do poorly on the tests but my average was a 95. I did this by reading all the chapters 3 days before, the notes 2 days before, and review the day before. Extremely hard work is essential in thi
you basically have to teach yourself
Professor Trathnigg is an amazing professor. She consistently asks the class how she can make the class better and is always available to get your questions answered. The class itself is not easy and requires a diligent work ethic due to the amount of reading and the difficulty of the tests. Put in hard work and you will get a good grade.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS PROFESSOR! Its like she is trying to make your life miserable! Gives unnecessary amounts of work - Like very specific hand written lecture notes? Tests and quizzes NEVER match her lectures either so all those pages of handwritten lectures notes are a waste.
AVOID THIS INSTRUCTOR. Unnecessary level of difficulty for a freshman level class. Notes have to be handwritten. I had an actual heart attack while taking her class and while I was in the hospital she made me jump through hoops just to drop the class. Time spent trying to complete work, not learning the material. DO NOT TAKE THIS INSTRUCTOR!!!
This class truly is not as terrible as everyone says. Trathnigg explains the content very well and makes it easy to understand. She is a great professor and truly does care! Dont pay too much attention to the bad reviews, bio 181 is hard class and general and a lot of the heat goes onto the professor, but as long as you study you will do great!
I enjoyed the lectures, she made the content easy to understand, as this is a hard class (going to SI helps).
She's great! BIO 181 is a hard course, but she makes it funny. She is a stickler for no phone use and people paying attention, but that's reasonable. Like, you paid for this, pay attention!
Shes hilarious and makes the class fun ,but she also gets down to business. Bio 181 is tough but her lectures help out a lot just make sure you're paying attention in class!
For me Trathnigg took some warming up to. 181 is a tough class but although in the beginning she seemed like she didnt care or see us as students, now we can really see that she goes out of her way to help us succeed. She makes plenty of review material for the tests which are really helpful! If youre struggling attend SI sessions!!
I dont understand why there are so many bad reviews. Dr. T is a true gem. She may be intimidating at first but she really opened up. She explains everything clearly and tells us what to expect for exams
She's fun and explains concepts well, but lectures can really drag on sometimes. Her grading distribution is pretty easy and straightforward. Overall a pretty good professor.
At the beginning of the year, people really freaked me out about Professor T but as the class went on she became my favorite professor. She made learning BIO fun and really helped you out when you needed it. She's always cracking jokes and trying to make the class fun for you. Do not miss class through because she shows you stuff not in the book.
I dont really understand the low score on here. Trathnigg gives good note outlines that you print and fill in during lecture, and those have been super helpful for studying for tests. The topics are hard but she has a good sense of humor and makes it enjoyable. She provides the resources needed to succeed in her class.
This was overall a great class. Heidi is a challenging professor but if you put in the work, you will pass. Show up to class because the clicker questions appear on exams and also go to SI sessions because questions from the kahoot and quizlet will be on the exams. She can be goofy sometimes and it made the class more enjoyable!
Professor T is a great professor, at first I thought that I wasn't going to pass. By the time going, she opens up. She makes jokes in class and cares for her students to pass and understand the lectures. Her notes are great and explains information clear. Attend SI sessions, you gain more information one-on-one. She also affords extra credit.
Trathnigg is an above average professor. The class entails a lot of homework such as reading assignments. She is very engaged in the lecture and the notes are easy to understand and follow along with. I would recommend her for anyone taking BIO 181
Professor T gave great lectures that were incredibly informative, however she makes students take incredibly detailed notes by hand. The course is incredibly homework heavy, there were assignments due almost every day. Although she gave great lectures, outside of class she is hard to approach as she's pretty rude about students asking for help.
Despite what other comments say, I actually really liked Professor Trathnigg. She is very clear in her lectures, she provides guided notes, and all of the homework is very relevant and helps you learn. Also the tests are very easy if you just study for an hour or two the night before and review the study guide. Great teacher for a beginning class.
I loved her class! She was such a fun and caring professor. She gave the class a ton of extra credit and she changed her teaching methods to suit her students. The material is a little bit difficult, but as long as you show up in class, you'll be fine.
Took this class fall of 19. This is a weed out class and you have to avoid procrastinating to get a passing grade. Listen to what Prof. T says will be on the exams during the lecture! Reach out to Prof. T/SI/TAs for help; they all want you to pass and will help you! Use Prof. Ts/the SIs provided study materials for the exams and youll pass
Hard material but if you study and go to the SI's you will do fine. Stay on top of the reading assignments, concept maps, quizzes, and vocabulary along with doing all the extra credit. Definitely a lot of focus outside of the class.
She knows what shes talking about and is really good at explaining difficult subjects. Either way its a bio class so some of the concepts will be hard. Homework counts for her class and you will need to study but she really sets everyone up for success if you do what youre supposed to
A lot of people complain about how hard she is but honestly as long as you show up for class, do all the work, do the extra credit, and study you'll be fine. Her lectures are super helpful and she's an amazing teacher. To pass you do not have to go to SI sessions, you'll be fine without them.
Takes more time to explain that she doesn't have time to explain something instead of just explaining it. Maybe if she doesn't have time to teach all of her content she shouldn't take time to try and teach college students how to study...
I loved professor Trathnigg. She would play music at the beginning of class, it helped me wake up. The reading doesnt require to notes but definitely understand the vocabulary!Understand the vocabulary then youre set to understand everything. She also gives her own practice exam questions, I suggest do those because they will be on the test.
NAU provides a plethora of good professors, this is not one of them. Take literally anyone else if you can. You will not regret it.
Professor T was a great instructor. I was in her class and later worked for her as a TA. This class is difficult, but is manageable if you engage with the material and attend lectures. 181 has plenty of resources to help students succeed, don't be afraid to ask for help!
She gives the worst feedback of any professor I've ever had. She tells you to follow her grading rubrics but will give you a bad grade even if you do. She was also lazy about updating her online material, it had tons of things that were not applicable to the course and even told you to buy things that you don't need. This class is a complete grift.
This is entirely the worst professor I have ever had. I am not sure if this is a new way she has set up her online summer course but it is awful. She grades quizzes on a rubric that is not available to us it seems because she takes off points willy nilly for things not asked in the question. Or she rephrases the answer you gave and takes points off
Yes, she lectures, but she gives out worksheets so that you can take notes along with her. A good combination of lecture and interactive content. I really enjoy being in her class, and have learned a lot so far.
Hours and Hours of Homework, and a tough grader. Made us stay for thanksgiving, weekly reading assignments take around 4-6 hours, had covid and wouldnt let me do any work online and missed out on a ton of assignments Because I didnt show up for class
By far my least favorite professor. Bio 181 was my worst class and a horrible way to start out my freshman year. Yes, she gives note handouts for us to follow, but they barely help on the quizzes. There were several times I asked her for help in class, but she told me to email her my problems after class. She was extremely impersonable. 1/10
By far the worst professor I've had at NAU. Does not care about her students and gives out an absurd amount of homework and tests.
As a professor, she's okay, but she does expect a lot from students. And she isn't super willing to work with students in special circumstances, so just keep that in mind if taking a course with her.
unhelpful professor. I spent SO many hours on homework. She makes you feel dumb when you ask questions. when I asked for tutoring she told me I was out of luck, as the "school's provided tutors aren't up to her standards". the lectures are so BORING. The biweekly quizzes are impossibly hard. I appreciate her schedule and she is good about late work
Professor Trathnigg sets up the class so the expectations of you are very clear. If you pay attention and do what you're supposed to do, the assignments are okay. The SI sessions can be super helpful in understanding the content and getting a better grade.
Each week is the same with assignments. She lectures everyday and its hard to understand sometimes and she gives off the vibe that she doesn't care if you know the info or not. The quizzes can be tough but if you get a avg of 90%, you don't have to take the final which is nice. She does take attendance and its for a grade. Her TA grades work
The teacher is not all that great. She clearly knows biology but fails on how to teach it properly. A lot of the time the content she teaches in class doesn't always correlate to the biweekly quizzes. My advice is do your weekly assignments and do good on the biweekly quizzes so you don't have to take the final exam.
she was not understanding of my extenuating circumstances. the 7 exams throughout the course were not an accurate depiction of the final. this course required many hours of work with a teacher that was unwilling to provide assistance and extra help for the content.
Probably a really nice lady but a very intricate professor. Lectures were very confusing and she often flew by each chapter. Would have appreciated a slower pace learning and easier tests.
Definitely a tough class but if you just turn in the work and study youll get a decent grade
This professor is great and clearly wants her students to succeed. The biweekly quizzes are very important in your grade so prioritize those.
While there is quite a bit of work for Bio181, Professor T is extremely organized and the class is very well planned out. She is an amazing lecturer and finds many ways to keep us involved. It's not a hard class to pass if you simply do the work. She gives many extra credit opportunities and grades quickly. Highly recommend Professor T.
This is the worst class I have ever taken. Heidi only lectured, did grade (her TA did that at the end of the year), and did not help when asked. She was extremely rude when emailed about anything and would dock points if an "unnecessary" email. I got an A in the lab so it does not make sense I got a C in the lecture.
I was a SI for this professor. She has a lot of good qualities that get over looked. She can be intimidating. Her humor is dry but still very funny. She is a mom and a sweet person. She is not a fan of extra credit. Over the alternatives she's the best NAU has to offer. She can be very bio jargon heavy so if you need it dumbed down go to the ASC.
Prof T was my favorite professor, she has a clear passion for bio, and is extremely helpful in her office hours. She is very covid cautious. If you watch her lecture videos before class, go to Si, and study a day or two before each biweekly, you will easily excel in the class.
Dr. Trathnigg was always very supportive. She let myself and a classmate interview her for another class as well as write a letter of recommendation for me to study abroad. Big high school teacher vibes and super nice!
I took her for BIO 182. She assigned a lot of readings and work through the week but none of it was tough. For tests just review the post-assignment questions and in class lecture notes. She drops your lowest assignment, exam, and quiz when grading and is responsive to emails. Just make sure to get to class on time or your seat will be taken lol
Heidi Trathnigg is nice but she is the worst professor I've had so far. She gives a ton of unnecessary homework. She does NOT teach a ton of topics in class. It is expected of you to watch a ton of long videos on your own time. She will then quiz and test us on only the videos and most the time what she actually teaches in class is not on the test
She is a very passionate person, but her lecture style is not good. Her lectures did not align with the labs and I was often left confused and she expects everyone to watch lecture videos outside of class instead of teaching in class. We also had weekly quizzes instead of biweekly quizzes, an exam on reading week, and lots of busy work.
Stay away. Her method of the flipped classroom setting is not good. Youre expected to watch lecture videos for homework, along with a lengthy reading/questions assignment, then a post lecture assignment, and group work. Not to mention her in class lectures are a direct COPY of the lecture videos, but attendance is mandatory for points.
My least favorite teacher in my freshman year. She was genuinely just unapproachable.
This class was not very good for me. There were so many lectures and Trathnigg didn't elaborate on several things that were on the exams. Some of the lectures had to be done outside of class and it wasn't clear what you had to know before the quizzes, which were every other class period.
She never elaborates on anything and just leaves stuff out that you are tested on. She makes lecture videos that she tells you to watch but it's literally the same thing you learn in class. The average grade in this class in like a low B also so I think that tells you all you need to know.
Professor Trathnigg is completely unapproachable and unhelpful. She is lecture heavy and fails to explain the material if you were to have questions. If we did group work during the lecture, she would publicly call out people that had questions by stating, "Who can tell them the answer to the question we just went over?". Don't take this class.
lectures were very boring and just consisted of her writing on the projector, and i could never read her handwriting on technical terms i didnt know. kinda condescending sometimes, doesnt elaborate on different topics. unorganized and topics on exams are sometimes only briefly gone over
Professor T was very solid in BIO182. I really enjoyed her style of lecture and having practice questions during lecture allowed for active recall. Bi-weekly quizzes really were not that hard as most of the questions were covered in the same lecture. Exams are fairly easy as long as you study based off of lecture notes and SI Practice exams.
Professor Trathnigg was just an okay teacher. She never really went above and beyond in explaining any topics and usually did not cover every topic on the tests in class. Unfortunately, watching lecture videos is a must with her. Putting in the work in her class is necessary to get an A.
Every lecture we did the same thing- watch her write down notes on diagrams for an hour. She was extremely unapproachable and hard to learn from.
everyone saying professor K is awful is very dramatic. she's definitely not great but her lectures are clear and it gets the job done. a bit of a course load, I think I have the most homework from this class of my whole schedule but once you get the hang of the weekly assignments, its all good. I think as long as you put in some work, you're good.
Extremely boring lectures and unapproachable. Felt like a robot was teaching me biology. Most of what she lectured on was stuff that was just straight from the textbook. Seems to know what she's talking about but fails to elaborate on some of the topics she's teaching.
Professor K is probably the best out of all the 181 professors. If you take notes and pay attention, you will pass easily. The workload is somewhat a lot but it's all relevant. She's very caring and understanding - just don't talk during her lecture.I would highly recommend her if you're taking BIO181.
Easy class if you take it seriously. Everything is very clearly outlined on her course page, and students are given ample time to prepare for exams. If you actually take the class and course material seriously, passing should be a breeze.
Dr. Kloeppel's grading is incredibly forgiving and clear- you will know why you have your grade. BBLearn is updated and the course structure is modular in design. She knows how to teach and lectures are involved with iClicker, which can be used to gain extra credit. Some test content is not taught, though. Take her over the other Bio professors.
Dr. K was an amazing lecturer! Using the slides she posts weekly to take notes and study off of makes studying for exams incredibly easy. There's a decent amount of homework per week, however all the weekly quizzes can be taken as many times as you want to get a 100%. Lowest scores on most assignments are dropped, lots of extra credit opportunities
You have 4 Exams in classes and she explains topics in a difficult way
You should be able to do well in this class as long as you take notes, study, and do the homework!
material was made easy to understand in notes but when it came to exams it felt very confusing.
Lecture heavy class, but if you take good notes you will be fine. The tests are only on stuff that we learn in class so if you review your notes you should pass the exams. She sets up the workload nicely so that its not to much out of class work and its the same routine every week. She was a great professor!
Heidi was a nice professor for the most part. She was responsive with emails when I had to miss class but I must say in class, with so many students crammed into a lecture hall, she really needs to invest in a better mic or just speak up. Her assignments are good study materials but I do wish she would make a better note style.
Its the same homework every week. Exams related to the notes and practice questions she gives you. As long as you study a little before the exams you will get a B minimum! Going into this class I was nervous because in high school I wasn't the best at biology but I ended up getting an A in the class before she even dropped my lowest exam grade!
The most telling example was of our homeworks as each "concept" was actually 2 questions that you had to get 100% correct. This week, it's 101 concepts, meaning 202 questions in total minimum for a total of 10 points. For so little credit, it feels a waste of time, especially since the tests are each worth 100 points.
Easiest class I've taken. I can get the homework for the week done in one or two sittings (est. 1-3 hrs). Anyone giving Kloeppel a bad rating has poor time management skills because this class is easy, very informative, and offers extra credit. Tests are tough. Someone paid me to do 5 weeks of their homework and I got it done in 4 hours.
Ive had this professor twice now (181/182) and both times thought the classes were laid out clearly with many opportunities to earn points. The tests are straightforward and about the material learned. No trickery. It is easy to work ahead on HW because it's always due the same days every week.
this class was very very lecture heavy. she posts the slides online with all the definitions so its kinda hard to pay attention when it gets boring. i ended with a high A but mostly because of going to si. she does snap at students and does not like any distraction going on in the class whatsoever. attendance is mandatory but doesnt impact you much
BIO 182 was a tough course for me, but Professor Kloeppel gives a lot of resources to help you study the material. Her lectures weren't very helpful to me unless I read the chapters beforehand because she goes pretty fast, and I would usually study the book instead of the lecture notes for tests.
By far the best professor I've had. I took her for BIO 181 and 182 and her grading criteria is the same all around. Very understanding regarding late work due to personal and valid reasons, gives out a study guide that includes every single concept on the exam. Very flexible, helpful, and caring towards students!
This class was really lecture heavy, but the test were very clear and related to the material online other professors. Even if you get bad grades on the exams you can definitely pass with a C+ or even a B+. She offers extra credit and when you go to class you do iclicker questions and thats extra easy points towards your grade. Take her!
Heidi was an amazing professor. She answers everyone's questions and does not make students feel lesser for asking questions. The reading is heavy but that is going to be for every bio 181 class. I took her 181 and 182 courses and would definitely take another of her courses if she offered. Overall she is a good choice.
She moves very quickly through the lecture, but will answer all your questions. I felt stupid for asking all the time, but she never made me feel bad for it! Textbook and participation are mandatory, and the readings took so long to do, but I liked the professor herself.
loved her class, super consistent , good questions, tests are easy if you study, SI sessions are easily accessible. definitely recommend.
She is a very good teacher but it is just a very difficult thing to learn
While this is a hard subject to learn, Prof K makes it super easy to understand! She posts notes for each unit that you can print out and follow along with, and there's a lot of pictures and diagrams for visual learners. She wants her students to succeed, and she will always answer questions! If you attend the lectures and study, you'll do great!
She provided no resources when it comes to studying for exams or learning the material. She writes the notes on the screen in class and never posts the lectures. She is also the only professor I have had that acts like a high school english teacher and will call you out in front of the class for little things like checking your phone. Good luck.
Overall a great class, very easy to take notes as she does it with you. There are a good amount of homework assignments but they are accepted a week late for full credit and aren't very hard. The grade isn't very dependent on a good test score.
Make sure you aren't on your phone or talking during class or she will call you out!! Other than that, her notes are easy to follow because she does them with you. In addition, she accepts late work for up to one week and the test scores don't make your grade tank. The only downside was the amount of reading.
wants you to succeed and sets the class ip for you to not fail. a lot of weekly assignments but takes five mins most for each except for the reading ones. offers so much extra credit and drops your worst exam grade. go to class and follow along with notes and the exams are easy. si is amazing too especially the practice exam sessions.
Kloeppel is very straightforward with her lectures, she gives us a week to learn the subject and moves onto the next. Time management is very important when it comes to Bio 181, you're unable to pass without studying. Her exams aren't tricky she tries to make it as easy as possible there are no tricks. (SI sessions helped a lot )
great prof, classes are always lectures with after lecture work, the Iclicker attendance haunts my dreams haha. tests are based on lectures. study the reading assignments and DO THE PRACTICE TESTS! 9/10 the same questions will pop up.
Basically all info came from lectures but if you make an effort it's not bad
She provides all the information needed in lecture and is straightforward to understand. The class is set up for you to succeed; if you pay attention, you'll learn all the necessary material. She can be somewhat intimidating but don't be afraid to ask questions, she will help you. Don't be on your phone in class.
As someone who has taken many online classes, wow. This one was downright awful. Organized very poorly, and many assignments need to be done with extra explanations or a group, neither of which are provided. An absurd amount of HANDWRITTEN work per week, with unclear grading criteria that actively contradicts itself. Clearly a weeding course.
BIO181 will be fairly hard no matter which professor you take. Her notes are hand-written on a projector. She has 4 big exams & a final. She drops the lowest exam score. Personally I learned much more outside of class than inside, but attendance partially makes up your grade. Not super homework-heavy. Make sure to learn the material though.
I love this woman. she cut the stupid mcgraw hill things WAAYYYYYYYYYY down. she is a queen, an icon, an NAU LEGEND.
This professor was great at lectures and is very knowledgeable on what she is teaching. The only downside is that she isn't very personable and can be intimidating when trying to ask questions. I gave her a 4 because to me, if a professor is an excellent teacher, it doesn't really matter if they're the nicest person in the world.
She definitely prepares you for the tests and the practice tests helps a lot! Not very difficult so long as you pay attention and put forth a good effort.
professor is fine, nothing special. lectures are quite boring. tests are pretty easy but she rarely reviews anything in class. only 3 assignments a week that barely review any important content.
Very straight to the point. Not very personable with students but she has a lot so it's understandable and shes still nice. The lectures and work are very matter of fact. The work is not hard, sometimes tedious but very consistent. SI is helpful for tests. Notes are easy to follow, lenient attendance but its definitely best to show up.
This professor lectures for way to long. Be prepared to sit in class the whole time just to take notes.
loved the class just like 181. 3-4 assignments per week, if u read the content and actually pay attention in lectures u will ace the class! kloeppel is awesome and provides outside resources like internship opportunities for interested students to
I loved Professor K! I had a very positive experience with her and if I could I would take her again and again. Her lectures are straight to the point, she gives you the slides she teaches from and a study guide for each exam (4 + the final) which are VERY helpful. There are 3 assignments each week but they typically don't take a ton of time.
Dr. Kloeppel is a great professor, and you can tell by her course material that she really cares about the benefit of her students. Her note-taking guides and exam study guides are amazing and target exactly what will be on the exams. If you average at least 85% on the four in-class exams, then you are exempt from the final!
Lots of assignments and most require a due bit of time, however weighted in a way that makes it so that if you do try in the class, it is almost hard to fail. On the flip, you will not pass the class if you do not put in the time and effort. Mistakes are Ok and wont hurt, but lack of effort will be a death sentence for your grade.
Overall Professor Kloeppel is an excellent teacher. Her way of teaching makes the material very easy to understand, and the material that is in the notes is on the test. However, it sometimes feels like she tries to control the class more than what is necessary for a college course, but if you can overlook that, then you should be fine.
A good lecturer who has very clear expectations for her class. The content isn't hard, but its mind numbingly boring withs lots of memorization. She care alot about her students. As you will find in all 100 level lectures the show stops for no one so you have to keep up. assignment wise expect large 50 concept smartbooks and a weekly online quiz.
She's nice but sometimes not willing to work with you.
LOVED Kloeppel. Writes notes in-class as she teaches the material. Goes into detail and explains things very well. People who don't like Kloeppel are those who don't put effort into their learning. Kloeppel is a great professor for those who WANT to learn. Only thing you need to study for exams is to go over the readings and review their questions
She is a nice professor, but she lectures the entire class. Also, never skip this class because you WILL fall behind.
Kloeppel is probably one of my favorite teachers at nau
Very very lecture heavy, uses clicker so participation matters She comes across unwilling to work with you and explains things to you as if you are dumb. Also goes through things very fast but overall not a terrible professor.
Heidi doesn't deserve the hate but she's usually doing too much. It's very easy to succeed in class- tons of extra credit, dropped assignments, and homework helps you learn. She needs to worry less about participation and attendance but she's usually respectful and honestly if you're not getting it you're the problem.
She's alright at teaching, most of the course is just copying her notes and doing the readings (anywhere between 20 and 50 concepts). However she'll stop teaching for the most minor distractions and has the personality of wet paper while teaching. Overall not the worst professor but I wouldn't take her again unless I really had to.
Heidi is an amazing Lecturer. If you like lectures, this is definitely the class for you. Overall, the class is easy if you just pay attention. The tests, while more frequent than say chem, are easy - as they are based very well off of the material covered in class AND offer extra credit. Anyone who doesn't like her probably doesn't pay attention.
Lectures include so much unnecessary information that gets mixed into needed information. Terrible handwriting makes in class notes so much harder. Pace always changes and makes it hard to keep up with notes as well. Gets irritatedquickly and will make clicker questions after most of the class had left after group work
Professor Kloeppel is a great teacher - her lectures are clear and she provides helpful study materials. While the class can be challenging, using resources like unstuck ai makes it manageable. Attend class and put in the effort to succeed.
I loved Prof K! If you keep up with the lecture notes and reading, you will pass this class. Her expectations are straight-forward and laid out clearly. She provides notes that go along with her lectures and the learning intentions on the notes align directly to the exams. She also has some amazing extra credit opportunities.
She is very strict about her phone policy, a little too much personally, she doesn't let you take photos of the board, no computers in class only handwritten notes, she doesn't show you the slides after class if you missed something, she'll call out those talking. She explains a tough subject well and all of her assignments relate to the tests.
I personally did not like Kloeppel at all. She can be really rude and uptight about a lot of random stuff. Her lectures do move fast and she wont go back to her last slide if you didn't finish writing and she will take off points from your grade if you're on your phone.
I'm not sure why so many people have a problem with her. You shouldn't be on your phone in class or talking to people around you during the lectures. She lectures just fine, and she is very accessible outside of class. She is very helpful and if you don't understand something, she will explain it to you again. I really enjoyed taking her.
Cons: Uptight person, bad handwriting, fast lectures (and doesn't post them afterward, so if you miss class, have a friend), controls class way too much for college level, boring lectures, and is overall just kinda too strict for no reason. Pros: She's fine at lecturing, so as long as you come to class and take notes you should be fine.
Prof K was the absolute best professor that I have ever had!!! Though challenging her class was engaging and thought me many new things about biology.
Personally, I didn't like professor K. She made a few snarky comments in class and never dropped an exam grade from the grade book that was stated in the syllabus. She would take a long time to answer my emails, and often times I would have to email her twice to get a reply back. The class is lecture heavy and her handwriting is hard to read.
She was an interesting prof, treated students like middle schoolers and “called out” talking students during class. If you weren't paying attention you would be called on and made fun of by her when you said you didn't know. Her lectures were ok but she was weird everytime.
Okay, a lot of people rate her bad, but honestly she is a really good professor and knows her stuff. If you dedicate yourself to her class and take notes and study, you can get an A. ALSO PLEASE GO TO SI. Genuiely my first test I got a 63% (class average was 47%) and I went to SI and got an 80% next test. You actually need to try and learn to get A
She is not helpful to students during her class. Whenever you ask for help, she will just say go look at her lecture videos or other worksheets and not give out help herself. Her exams are very different from her worksheets and practice exams. She always opens things last minute making it hard to study/work. And she relies heavy on her TA's.
Pretty clear cut class... take notes, do assignments, test. She's not very open to answering questions which is quite unhelpful, usually she'll call on other students to answer. Make sure you pay extra attention to her video lectures as they seem unimportant, but that info is what will make or break your test score.
You can turn everything up to a week late and at the end of the semester you can drop and retake 1 of the 4 quizzes taken during the class. the content is hard but she's very forgiving. about 3 hours of reading every week and 5 assignments that come with that reading.
