omg worst teacher ever, has NO idea on how to teach ridiculous assignments, tests, lab reports its seriously a wow... omfg, wtf is this... class dont take this class, you'll hate it
dont take her class, it is hard, she rate your lab report by spelling, grammar? that is suck. her exam is hard. the average first exam is 58.8%. She grade very very hard. her powerpoint is nothing.
Horrible teaching style and very bad in lecture. She is not a good teacher at all! Don't take her!
omg..what a worst teacher ever!!! doesnt know how to lecture, all she does is talk through the chapters, like that's gonna put everything in our brain. and exams are way too hard, just studying the notes wont get you a B or higher, C is already questionable. dont ever take her class.
Worst professor I have ever had. I second everything that was said before. She is not organized, doesn't know how to explain anything, and her entire class is just a joke!
Yes, she is a new teacher. However, I dont think the previous comments are entirely fair. If you dont come prepared to class and dont study like you should everyday, then dont expect a good grade. Everything on her tests is stuff you should know. If you want to take a college level corse then i reccomend her.
Only take this class if you're a textbook freak. Lectures won't help since they're straight off the textbook site, and you're expected to "get" the labs so don't take this class unless you already know how to do amazing lab reports. If you don't plan on reading the chapters on a weekly basis, expect to fail because you can't cram for her tests.
I am not complaining because I had a bad grade. In fact, I am going to finish this class with an A. Four-point-zero. Still, she has a lot to learn. My grade is a reflection of what I learned in 101, not in this class.
I finished the course with a B but wished I didn't have to go through so much trouble for it. It was like having a student teach a class with no prior knowledge of text/course materials. I would recommend this professor if you're looking to seek tiny grammar details instead of spending your time studying. Lectures are useless and time comsuming,
She was great (still is) because she understands that learning is something each individual must attempt in order to fail and gain knowledge. Class was about having fun and exploring anything we wished as long as it related to biology.
Despite being thorough, lectures were overly technical, difficult to follow, and down right tedious. Expected graduate-level lab papers without proper instruction. (In fact, gave class a website guide that was down for majority of weekend, then scolded class on grades!) WOULD NOT recommend this instructor for any classes higher than the 100 level.
DONT HAVE HER AS A PROFFESSOR. Had Hybrid Human Bio. Average quiz score 50% (Other class was a 55%)(3 quizzes, 8ch. in each quiz which is CRAZY)(quiz is 60% of grade). Teaches directly from textbook. Labs are from the web & not her own work (when asking questions she has to read from lab packet herself & doesn't know what the answer is)BAD!!
I took her hybrid class and it was the biggest mistake i had done. She was by far the hardest teacher i ever had throughout all my classes. Her tests covers 7-8 chapters which is a lot, which also means her tests are extremely hard. I had straight A's until i took her class. If you want to take the hardest class of your life than take her class.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. Labs can be extremely confusing and her tests are HARD. Average grade for the tests is 50% and people end up getting Ds and Fs. Even if you study your ass off, you will probably end up with a C. DO NOT RECOMMEND.
I would not recommend taking her intro to human biology course unless you plan on majoring in biology. The class average on the first exam was 50% and the class average on the second exam was 57%. She refused to curve them and told us our class was doing better than her other class (which seemed impossible). No EC given whatsoever.
Heidi is tough, but fair. A lot of my classmates were whiners! who didn't do the work they needed to. I thought it was interesting and I learned a lit of good stuff.
I really liked this class. We got into a lot of interesting discussions. She doesn't use a lot of powerpoints but posts them online. I thought I would get a higher grade but I learned a lot.
Awesome engaging teacher. Passionate and well informed.
Class is fun, not too tough, and the prof is nice.
Great teacher, grew to like her, bumped heads at first because of things that were not class related but very great teacher!! Who has a passion for what she does one of the few at Bellevue, very funny, and entertaining as well as helpful!! Made me have a greater appreciation for science! Recommend this class if you want to learn more about science
I liked Ms. Richter as a teacher and a person. I would take any class she teaches because she's actually really good at giving feedback and keeps the kids engaged by being funny as well at appropriate moments.
She's the best Bio 100 teacher ever. Very clear on expectations and clear on the material
This class was a bit tough, you have to work for the A, but Ms Richter is there to help. She makes class a fun experience and an easy learning environment.
SHE IS AMAZING WTF YALL NEED TO STOP WHINING I enjoyed her classes, and she didn't LECTURE, she TAUGHT. I was so scared of this class but honestly, she made biology fun. I'm probably going to get a degree in Bio :D AMAZING TEACHER YOU GO HEIDI YAAAAAASSS
I enjoyed this class, teacher, and classmates. I was worried about hard grading but I actually started paying attention and detailing my work so grading got easier. It isn't a hard class, neither are the labs but you need to pay attention and keep up on the quizzes.. Keep up with those and you'll be good to go! My attendance & quizzes got me the C.
Learned a lot of new things in this class. Great teacher . Really chill. Come to class on time and everyday and you'll be good . I would take the class again
At first, I thought the class was going to be extremely tough from reading these reviews but if you work hard, you can definitely get an A!! She is so helpful if you email her (she reviewed me essays before I turned them in) and gives a lot of extra credit! Just actively participate, and do the work, and you will do well! Trust me!
Hard course because you study lots by yourself, outside class, besides hw. Heidi's there for questions, but you basically have to memorize a lot of info yourself. Caution if not majoring in it. However, this was a truly fun class, extra credit to save your grade, and was super engaging. Take if you want great friends. Heidi cares if you do :)
I loved this class! We had to participate in activities and discussions a lot but it made it more interesting. Exams were right off the study guides if you looked at them. You have to go over the lecture slides and readings outside of class but can ask questions in class.
I really enjoyed this class. She cares about you and wants to make sure you do well in the course. I don't like biology much but the class was good.
I went into this class fearing the worst, and it wasn't as bad as I expected. Don't go in expecting this to be an easy class. It definitely isn't and you need to work for it. You have to do a fair amount of work outside the class (I'm in Hybrid) such as 3 field trips and a service learning project. Heidi isn't the best out there, but there is worse
This class was hard, not because of the material, but because the instructor didn't use class time well and didn't communicate her expectations. Before exams, we were never sure if we studied the right things. She really pushes "fun" unstructured learning in class, but exams require straight up cramming and flash cards.
Loved Ms Richter's class! She taught a college course at the college level. As college students, we shouldn't have any problems writing college level papers or following clear instructions to be able to pass the class. Not saying that is all you have to do to be able to pass, but pay attention like you should and you will get back as much as you put in. She has a lot to teach us, unfortunately there just isn't enough time. I am going to college to learn everything I can and prepare myself for a real career, and she helped me learn what I needed to know to get me to my goal.
She wanted to make class more fun by having more activities than lecture. But how can students learn if the teacher doesn't provide the basics first. She's not approachable, makes you feel uncomfortable so don't bother asking her questions. You'll lose points if you come late or use your phone in class. You get treated like a kid so don't take her
I loved Heidi! She really knows her stuff when it comes to science. Her test are difficult just like any other college Biology course but she offers many options throughout the quarter to help improve your grade. I learned a great deal from her. It's not an easy A but possible! If you apply yourself you will do well in this class. I recommend her.
I really like the way Heidi explains things. The comprehensive study guide has everything you need to know in the class. If you go to office hours she'll help you out and give hints what you need to know for the test. This was a hard class, but I learned so much!
This is a tough class but she really wants you to do well. Offered a chance to make up points on the first exam and lots of extra credit. It was a hybrid class so I had to do a lot of work outside of class but it really helped me on the tests. She was always willing to answer questions and work with me when I needed it.
Love Heidi! She truly does care that her students succeed. Your success in her class is directly related to your work ethic, so what you put in to it you get out. She is available for extra help and visiting office hours was really helpful for me. She provides study materials and real-world settings to help course topics stick.
I loved Heidi. She was one of the best teachers I've had in college so far. Although, her tests are pretty hard. I think if you need to take biology you should take it from her because she makes coming to class fun and not very many teachers are like that.
Marine biology was a great class. The tests were based off the study guide and labs. Do those and youll be fine. Had some great field trips and saw some neat animals.
Heidi was a great professor! She was always availble after class if you needed help or just wanted to chat about bats. Her tests were incredibly hard, I would be understanding everything in class, but when the test came I would struggle so much. Compared to the other bio profs she is the hardest one, but I learned alot. Overall great class!
Only 3 tests including the final, and they're difficult. There is just too much material to remember for students who dont have a photographic memory unless you put hours into studying (which is do-able, but simply too much work for a 100 level class). Show up to class for the labs and put a few hours into studying a week and youll get atleast a B-
Loved this class! My favorite part was going to the beach and learning about the animlas that live here. The tests were based off the studey guides and if you had questions they were answered in class.
Any science class is hard but Heidi is so personable and caring! She makes the class fun and interesting. Honestly not much homework I can't complain about that. Hardest part is her tests-4 in a quarter, the class averages were always a C or lower. If you're a bad test taker, you must do ALL the hw/labs with best effort and you will pass
My favorite class, 10/10 would recommend. Reading material: online with most 'lecture' learning being done yourself (hybrid class) + through the lab manual work(in class). Class time was used effectively; discussions a/b material, conducting lab work, or review for tests. Definitely talk w/her outside of class with any questions or just to discuss!
She was intimidating at first, but it was clear that she wanted all of us to succeed. She fostered the best learning environment I've ever had. I have a hard time making friends, but by the end of the quarter we were all close and there was very little clique-ness. Do the work--ALL the work.
Great teacher, did lots of group labs and online learn smart assignments. For tests, just use the review materials online and notes in class.
Heidi was an awesome teacher. Focused more on rewarding what you did know than punishing what you didn't. If you did the homework and lab work, it wasn't difficult to pass the tests. Lots of varied assignments and in class assignments. Don't wait until the last minute to do the plastics project. You can bring her any questions you have on ANYTHING.
Heidi was a great professor. If you try and are a good student you will like her. She doesn't put up with students that show they don't care. I thought the class was overall very interesting. It was a bit hard at times but it was also manageable-just keep up with all the work.
I know science classes would be difficult but Richter made intro to bio incredibly hard. She is a really picky grader & if answers arent what she has in mind, your whole assignment is done for. Seriously she gave me a 1.45/10 because my answer didn' "meet her standards". Notes are messy & unstructured & for ur wellbeing, don' take this cLAS
Professor Heidi is a great teacher. Unfortunately, because of online classes, the workload was very heavy with a low explanation of worksheets, labs, and weekly assignments. She a harsh grader, every assignment only 10-20 credits. She is also a picky grader and may grade every few weeks, which makes improving difficult.
If you want to mess up your G.P.A Avoid taking this class. She will assign so much homework, labs, readings and after lecture quizzes that it will take more than 25 hours a week to finish anything. Her motto is "This is a COLLEGE class, so 18 is the minimum you must study" but ignores the fact that some people need more time to learn. Bad teacher.
Too much homework and not enough time to spend on one subject to truly commit it to memory. Information not covered during the week is in the HW and weekly quizzes. So far if a question isn't answered to her liking she will deduce points, even if the answer is correct. Finally, she will ignore emails if she gets tired of a student needing help.
Don't get me wrong, any science class is going to be hard. But this class will really make you work for a somewhat decent grade. though I have a decent grade so far. 27 pages of worksheets. you'll get graded harshly on tests. rarely get over 15/20 on any test other than OB or syllabus quiz the first week. good luck passing (BIOL160w/lab)
Please do NOT take this class. This is one the hardest classes I have ever taken. She treats this class like its upper 300 or 400 level class, when its and INTRO to Biology class. Insane amount of homework, and no matter how much you study for the weekly tests, the test will end up being nothing that you studied.
STAY AWAYYYYY! Way to much homework, this class took over my life and I still barely understood anything. When you ask her questions she responds very condescendingly, and overall is just all around a pretty rude person. She acts like you already are supposed to understand everything. I am a straight A student but it took everything I had to pass.
Grades based on essays, if you miss one criteria you fail.
Professor Richter was a treat to have. She was always willing to help me and change due dates, as long as I let her know in advance. She would always try to respond to my questions in a short time span, even if it wasn't her office hours. Overall, great teacher, 10/10.
Great teacher, always approachable and is very flexible with due dates when you reach out to her. She believes in second chances and is one of the best teachers at Bellevue College. Love her lectures!
Had a hard time in her Marine Biology course. I don't think this class is impossible, just really time consuming. If you want to go into marine bio, this is the perfect class for you. If you need a science credit and don't want anything crazy, pick something else. (Don't bother w/ the study guide you'll get burnt out w/ the rest of the week's work)
DO NOT take this class. Save yourself your time money and sanity. Expect 25 hours of work per week, expect to pay additional unspecified course fees, and no leeway. This class is far above an intro to biology course and is treated like an advanced course.
This professor was better than expected. If there are timed classes with her it's best to go to them or else you will miss out on exam info. Everything on the exam is taught in the lecture or the smartbook (mostly lecture). Every assignment the student does she does to make sure it fits the exams. overall not the best nor the worst
She really expects you to figure things out on your own. She said she "doesn't believe in online lectures" even though the lecture portion is online and lab is in person. She uses another professors lecture videos and they're pretty bad/uninformative. I still got an A, but it was incredibly difficult.
Treats an "Intro to Bio" class like an advanced course. To boot she gives 20+ hours of work at home. Do not take this professor.
The teacher is very sweet. There are four tests + the final. The labs that are relatively easy, 2 a week.I took a hybrid class, so in online classes take notes. Besides labs and online lectures, there are Smart Book assignments and there Sim Bio assignments (these start mid-quarter). The #1 recommendation to pass tests are study off the study-guide.
At the beginning of the quarter, I was pretty appalled with workload she gave us, but after getting to know Heidi throughout the quarter, she really does care about you doing well. Yes you will have to do a lot of work outside the class to do good on the tests, but Heidi provided me great resources and encouragement to succeed in this course
Heidi is the kindest and most inspiring professor I had the pleasure of learning from during my time at BC. Biology is a hard subject to grasp, and she will prepare you for higher level classes. She is a genius and will make you one too. She does an amazing job supporting her students & cheering them on. She is approachable & wants you to succeed.
I took her Fall 2022, looking back at first I didn't like her, but over the quarter I realized she's hard on us because she cares that we actually learn the content. She prepared me SO well for BIO260. There's a lot of work, but use each assignment as a chance to learn. When we run into each other in the halls, she asks how I'm doing in my classes
This class was definitely very difficult especially because I took it hybrid and had to do lots of work at home, Heidi was very caring and kind and one of my favorite science teachers ever, however she was a very tough grader and had high standards on exams + labs. Despite that, I learned a lot and enjoyed the class. Be prepared for lots of work!
Professor Heidi is an awesome person. She really wants you to be successful, so she grades hard and puts the pressure on to prepare you. Use her study materials/modules and read the textbook! As long as you put in effort, you'll get somewhere. EFFORT DOES NOT EQUAL A 'GOOD' GRADE (I am a good example). Take this class in person if you can!
Don't take 3 other classes if u take her hybrid class. I had no life this qtr. Huge time commitment since u teach material to self, study material, attend lectures, complete labs&other hw. Strongly suggest taking notes on chptr, finish study guide, study in-class worksheets/labs, then REVIEW again b4 exams. Heidi is a tough grader, but cool.
Heidi is v. caring & kind but grades tough. Go to office hrs at least once & ask ?'s,she considers how much she saw u try for if she round a bit.Complete, study & KNOW study guide answers.Seriously, don't wait day before exam to complete them, they're long!Gives end quarter EC if u finish SmartBooks on time.GET THEM DONE,it can boost ur grade a lot.
This teacher seems to have a very good understanding of biology, but in fact he does not touch on any essence. Mere memorization and homework are very boring and the most ineffective class.
DO THE SMARTBOOKS!!!!!! this is definitely a "weed out" class for marine bio majors too see if they really want too do it dont rec if u just need a science credit, she is a lovely woman and a great teacher class is incredibly difficult
Great teacher overall, good person and will make time to arrange meetings with you to help you. Overall the bio160 course IS VERY FAST PACED. And im sure this goes for every professor teaching this course. THERE ARE LOTS of online homework. You cannot miss a day of class imo, missing 1 day is about 3 chapters behind.
Professor Richter is very knowledgeable and has a really cool story. Her class was very top-heavy. It was completely overwhelming at first, but then it got a lot easier when other classes started to get harder. She was a bit of a tough grader but would always have time to tell you exactly where you went wrong.
Great prof. I don't understand the low reviews.
VERY tough grader, has mentioned she has never given a 100 on an assignment/test. Dinged points off on a question asking for my opinion. 1st test expected avg is a C, literally holds a bio boot camp after because she expects everyone to fail/ barely scrape by. Ultimately does want you to pass, just have to fight Mike Tyson for it
Best Biology professor ever!
Makes this COLLEGE LEVEL intro to biology extremely difficult! Her grading is very tough, if she doesn't like it she will mark it down.Pretty much have to teach yourself on top of completing labs, readings and smartbooks. Expects 20 hours a week dedicated to this course. Also expects students to pay out of pocket for additional online labs.
Rigorous + lots of work. I took her in person and I can say that showing up to lectures was the best way to succeed, especially attending her review lectures before the exam. She is a tough grader on labs. Exams are tough but I got high scores for mine by just using the study guide and paying attention to her lectures, so make sure to study!
Heidi is an extremely tough grader and expects a lot of her students but is willing and able to offer all kinds of support. I am glad I took her class because if I feel prepared to take Anatomy. She is knowledgeable and interested in biology and you can tell she cares about her job. I would take any other class with her as an instructor.
Heidi is a great teacher and cares a lot about her students. She is super knowledgeable, but her class is hard and requires a lot of dedication. In her hybrid class she doesn't do any lecture or teaching and just assigns lecture videos from a different teacher on YouTube. The class is tough but better prepares you for A&P.
She gives a lot of labs and homework till the week before the finals. Extra credit opportunity is given through hand written study guides for all three tests, from chapters 1-18, with 25 questions each chapter maximum. A lot of the assignments will not be graded quick. Lastly, the tests are long and hard.
Lectures were clear and effective. Labs were well designed and professor was willing to answer questions and help. Chatted with the class and showed a lot of care for students. Knowledgeable in biology and overall a great professor!
You do have to put a lot of effort in this class but it is worth it. I currently have an 97% in the class before the last test and I feel that Professor Heidi provides so many resources if you are willing to take them. You have the time to study the concepts and you have the resources to get a good grade. plus she give extra time to finish tests.
