If you need this class, don't take her!! She is German and you can't even understand her. She is a very unfair grader and does not respond well to critizim. Her exams have information on them she didn't even talk about in class.
I really liked her class a lot. I think she was an awesome professor. You can tell she really loves what she teaches. As long as you pay attention, which is easy, and take a few notes you will do well in the class! You get used to her German accent.
I thought you could understand her. She was easy if you paid attention in class.
If you take good notes and study them then the class is really easy. A lot of the information I already knew from classes I took in high school so this was more of a review than anything else. She does have a German accent which is hard to understand in the beginning but then you get used to.
Good teacher
Very hard teacher. either you'll do good, or you'll do bad. But she'll like you if you suck up
Her accent doesn't make her difficult to understand at all. As long as you attend the classes and take notes, you should be fine. I thought it was easy and I would recommend her for a teacher.
Excellent teacher, well organized. Tests come mainly from the notes and text questions only. Attend every lecture, take good notes, study and review after each lecture and you will get an A.Her accent is not a problem!
She is extremely boring. Just reads from the powerpoint.
She is a wonderful professor. And is very knowledgable in her field. Those of who think she's bad becuase she tests on things she doesn't lecture on...it's called reading the book, and every other professor does it, so get used to it.
heike keeps things pretty basic and simple and tests out of the notes. i didnt buy the book. do you like chocolate? then heike will like you.
Made the classes very interest.
I thought she was a great professor, but I am not a morning person... so 8 am was too earlier for me. Otherwise I am sure I would have gotten an A if I went to class everyday!
knows a lot about what she teaches and is genuinely excited about teaching, very good professor
I thought I would hate this class...I ended up loving it. I mean common, its an 8am interim class, what's to like? But Heike is awesome. She's traveled just about everywhere, and her stories are great. Very enjoyable class.
Very enjoyable class. Excellent slides for note taking. A little hard to understand sometimes with her accent, but very fun.
I love her class, she's really fun!
One of the easiest classes I've ever taken.
She likes to complain about the United States. Basically our country has never done anything rights. Gets to be a tad bit annoying.
Very easy to understand, helpful, genuinely interested in her students.
Very easy to understand. Lecture is interesting. You probably won't fall asleep in class
She cares about students and is easy to talk to outside of class, lectures are not boring and you learn a lot, but exams are kinda on the hard side, study a lot for them.
didn't have much interest in geography before taking the class, but i found it very interesting and i would recommend the class to anyone. (if heike's teaching it anyway :o))
easy class. easy tests. heike is the woman. she has an awesome german accent. she all but takes the tests for you
awesome teacher, cool accent, very knowledgable. tests cover a lot of material, but she covers all of it in lecture, so there are no worries if you go to class and pay attention.
not good
I love going to the class. I didnt do that well on the first test but the second and third were easy. Go to class and take good notes and you should be fine. The people that said this class are hard are the people that skip and dont study for the exams!
Heike Alberts is the greatest geography teacher ever. Talk about one funny German.
Very interesting class. More of a history class than a geography class.
Great class! Go to class - exams are 98% from Power Point. Very interesting to listen to, she has had a lot of experiences.
alright.
Shes an excelllent prof, Im taking another of her classes next year simply because shes taking it.
Great Class
She's an amazing teacher. She's very easy to understand and she has lots of interesting stories to make class worth while. Just show up and take notes and you should do fine.
Easy, good teacher.
She is a wanderful teacher! The class is very easy. To get an A, just show up for classes, listen to her lectures (very interesting, time goes very fast), and memorize notes from overhead for the exams.
I really enjoyed her class. She mainly lectures the whole time. Attendance is important. For the tests I just studied my notes from class and got an A. Highly reccommend her classes! She is also very helpful outside of class.
Good person Hard work
If you go to class and take notes it's easy and she tells you what from the book you need to know specifically.
She is very interesting. Exams are really easy if you go to class. All the notes she gives you is basically the test. So if you go to class you will do fine
Ok class i did leran alot she can bore you alot but just listen and take good notes and yuo will be fine
DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK FOR THIS CLASS! It is all from her lectures minus a few “textbook questions” that you can just look up online. Easy class overall but don’t underestimate it. She is a good prof and loves what she does, interesting class for the most part.
Made the class very interesting and was very helpful.
Loved this class, heike made it extremely interesting. Few text book questions but she tells you what to look for before the tests. Show up to class and take notes and you'll do fine. Extremely easy to talk to and loves when students ask questions.
She is a good teacher and her class is enjoyable. I don't like her grading. This is the only class this semester I will not get an A in. Doesn't grade the paper fairly (only comment on mine was "really good paper" and I still got an AB). Her tests are super easy though. Tests are str8 from lecture. If you have a friend trade days of going to class
Very easy class. The tests are based on the powerpoints from class so attend the lectures. Don't buy the book! Everyone I know in class got at least a B
She is a pretty good teacher and a nice person. Class isn't too hard, just go to lectures and know them for the test.
great class!! awesome professor, she inspired me to switch my major to geography, class was easy and interesting
great class, easy, VERY ENJOYABLE!!!!!!! highly recommended
Very interesting class, you will do fine if you go to class, there is no homework only four exams
Heike focuses more on human rights than actual geography which is what I thought a Geography class would be about. If you follow the news at all and attend class, this is an easy A. If not, you might struggle to get a passing grade.
Took it for interim and thought that it was good. Easy to follow and fun.
Good professor
She is a very good professor
Heike is a babe!
She is a good teacher, fun to be in class. She knows what she is actually talking about. You think it is going to be hard but its not. Her first and Third test are the harder ones, because for the first one you will only know what will going to be on it and how its going to be graded so thats the only reason why it is hard
good prof
Awesome Prof!! Very willing to help every student. GO TO CLASS!!! She makes class interesting... lectures aren't really boring. Every student should have to take her! Exam are a little more difficult because they are short answer mainly but I feel like I learned a lot because of this.
Very easy class.Heike is very informed on everything she teaches. She has visted almost all of the places she talks about. No need for the book though...just show up to class and you should do fine! She brings in things from places you are talking about.
Awesome professor! She is very helpful and you can tell she really loves teaching! Definatly take her!
She is a good speaker! After the first week, you'll have no problem understand her German accent. minimum book work. just do the question on the handout for each chapter she assigns and study class notes. simple class and very straight forward
This teacher is a wonderful teacher. I had her my previous semester at UW-Oshkosh and she was very encouraging. Attendance is not manditory, but is very helpful! The book is very helpful as well. She also made her lectures very interesting, including pictures and video clips! Made class intriguing. Great Teacher!
She is a wonderful teacher. Having travelled all over the world as part of her job, she has a lot of first hand knowledge and she usually shows stuff that brought with her from these places and photos that she herself took. This class is very interesting and is highly recommended!!!
Great overall professor.
Don't bother buying the book...All the ?s come from her lectures so all you have to do is go to class and take notes off the powerpoints and you'll get at least a C. 3 tests, 1 paper and 1 map assignment.Tests are fairly easy but she expects way too much for the map and paper. Very difficult grader when it comes to those. Nice lady though
She's mostly a lecture teacher. So as long as you go to class a majority of the time and pay attention this shouldn't be hard to achieve atleast a B.
Took the class for interim...NOT A GOOD CHOICE. She lectures the entire time and makes you feel dumb for not knowing the information. It would probably be a fine class for semester.
Pit class & lectures frm powerpoint. She's very passionate about geography. I had her class at 8 am & I managed to stay awake bc her lectures were interesting overall. Didn't use the book, ?? for exam are mainly frm lectures. She has 2 other assignments you could do outside of class to redeem urself if multiple choice exams arent ur strongest.
Ask to play volleyball with her! She is a good professor but expects a lot out of her students and needs respect. Has a German accent and her tests are hard, she loves "All of the following EXCEPT" questions. But I got a B in her class, it's not too bad.
Easy Class. Just go, easy to keep up. Just make sure you study for the tests, theyre not as easy as youd think.
Great teacher, loved her. Tests weren't bad at all. Attendance is mandatory to do well on tests. Overall I really enjoyed this class. I wish I could take more classes from her but I'm not a geography major.
She's very nice, but her tests are super hard! My class average on tests never went above a C-
I loved her for general studies geography. Her exams weren't too tough if you studied. If you go to class, take good notes and study for map portion of exam, you'll do great. highly recommended
At first, I wasn't sure if I'd like the class, but she gets you excited about the material and she is really passionate about what she teaches. Grades though are hard to come by. She never gives a perfect grade and all of the assignments are low in points so it is hard to get an A.
Gives good lectures and hints at what you should know for sure. Often tells her own stories that go along with the lecture but some are pretty interesting. Her exams aren't too bad if you study I averaged a 90 on them. 4 exams make up the whole grade. The book isn't used much except for the after the chapter questions.
One of the best teachers!! Made the class fun and was very clear on what she wanted us to know and was very helpful!! Kept things interesting throughout the whole semester. Overall grading was a little tough but if you go to class and pay attention you don't really need to study that much. I honestly loved this prof. Definitely want her again!!
Very great teacher. Notes are pretty organized and her stories are great. After she finishes a lecture on a chapter she tells you important terms to know for the test. textbook isnt really needed. i never read it except to get the answers for textbook questions that you can easily get off the internet. LOVED the class
She is a great professor. She is very passionate about the topic which makes class interesting. Her exams are easy if you do your work that is which is taking note in the class and read the materials you have to read. I really enjoyed this class. She is a great professor
She is a really good professor. I had a little trouble in her class because I didn't really read the book. As long as you attend the class regularly, take good notes, and read the book you should be golden.
Class is really boring but information is pretty straight forward. She has an accent but you get used to it. Her tests are really hard. Overall the class isn't bad she talks about some weird stuff in the africa unit but can do decent on tests if you study note. I didn't really look at the book at all.
Overall, she is a great professor. Presents most of the information on slides, which is easy to follow since she has an accent. Tests are difficult, but if you study you'll do fine.
She is a nice professor and knows what she is talking about. She gives powerpoints in class so it's easy to follow along and take notes. I found this class very interesting, although our grade was based off four tests and they were very difficult for me.
Heike was one of my favorite professors at UWO. Definitely increased my interest in Geography. She changes the focus of each region each time; ie. she will focus on human rights abuses and the following region she will focus on climate. Excellent professor!
Heike is extremely passionate about geography and this passion shows in her teaching - even if it is a pit class. She is also extremely accommodating - missed a test being sick, and it was no problem and I took it later that week.
She makes class interesting and tries to get the class involved. The exams were all short answer, but were fairly easy if you study for them. I didn't open the text book once. She is very strict when grading papers, so make sure you check grammar and spelling before turning them in.
She is very nice and i had her in a small class. She is not that hard of a teacher but her grading scale is difficult.
She is suppose to be teaching intro level of human grog but instead she teaches a world history and current events class. I learned dates and names but nothing i remember now. If you take very good notes, study every day, really memorize the notes, you will pass. She tries to trick you on exams (likes NOT or All Except) questions, its not fair
Great teacher! Highly recomend
She is so nice. she has an german accent but you can still understand everything she is saying. also the exams are easy if you just read over your notes.
Overall very nice and passionate about what she teaches. I found her lectures to be on the boring side and often straying from the material on the test. She focuses a lot on human rights.
I always enjoyed going class. She is very nice, always happy and in a good mood. She's tough on grading papers. There's 3 exams and 3 writing assignments; she likes detail. A few readings through out the course and you also have to read a book but it is an easy read and very interesting. This class is over all interesting.
Heike was always came to class with a smile on her face. There was only 250 points offered this semester, no extra credit. She likes to try and trick you on the exams. Pay attention to little detail! She is also huge on using proper grammar in your papers. You will have to work for you grade, but it is an enjoyable class.
Professor Alberts is a great teacher. Her lectures are interesting and she encourages us to share our opinions. Participation does count, but it is not difficult to get points. She has a slight German accent, but she is pretty easy to understand. She also compares Germany to the U.S quite often so you're able to learn about the German culture.
Heike was by far my favorite professor I have had so far! Her classes are very interesting, and she really knows what she is talking about! She was a bit of a tough grader, but I learned an enormous amount through this class. She's always in a great mood which makes her class even better.
Professor Heike is always in a good mood which makes class less stressful and more enjoyable! I love that she always is open to others opinions and is interested to hear what her students think about topics discussed in class. Would recommend!
Heike is a great professor. Lectures can get boring but if you pay attention you'll do fine. There are a few assignments and 3 exams. There are no study guides so make sure you get all the notes from class!
Very kind and caring, knows each of her students individually and works with them to help the transition from high school to college courses easier
Her lectures were a little dry, but that's hard to avoid when you're teaching about geography. She's really caring and nice. She's clear about her expectations for assignments and she grades fairly.
Heike is my favorite professor because she's so caring about her students. She'll happily give you an extension on an essay if you need it. There was a lot of reading in this class, but you cover the chapters in class so you could skim the reading and still be fine. Her lectures were interesting and she liked having open class discussions.
Liked her except she's a little too harsh of a grader and the exams were asking for too specific of details for the lectures she gave. Not the most interesting class, she has a nice personality but the way she grades takes away from the course being pleasant. Took her for geo202
Many people thought Heike was very nice and awesome, but I thought she was demeaning. She did not treat you as an equal or a peer. You could tell that she loved the power and responsibility of being a teacher.
She is a very good professor!
She was a really wonderful professor and love students bringing up related topics in class in order to get a class discussion going, even if it diverted away from the main topic itself. She has an assigned textbook but only some of the time was it necessary, the tests are almost always straight from the lecture.
Very positive and interested in student's opinions. Would recommend participating every day in class. The textbook was expensive and you could get by (usually) without reading it. Was more of a history class than geography and had a ridiculous amount of note taking but was usually interesting to learn about.
Not a hard class if you have taken history classes in the past. I hardly read at all out of the book because in class she provides a perfect lecture outline, and gives key terms/questions that help you prepare for the test. If you choose not to go to class you could probably do well too it'll just be more work.
She's a great professor. As long as you get the notes, get down the important things she says and spend a little time to actually look at them, you'll be good to go for the exams. She's a great professor who's passionate about the topic.
Prof. Alberts. is one of my favorite professors at UWO. She is passionate and knowledgable about the topic and always willing to work with you and help you understand the material if you are confused. Her lectures are interesting and easy to follow. I will be sure to take her again if I get the opportunity!
Heike was very passionate about geography, but her tests were very difficult. If you are not a reader or interested in geography, this is not the class for you. Her lectures were interesting enough, but would sometimes become hard to focus during. She is a very helpful and kind professor, but definitely makes you work hard.
This class is based off of 4 tests which can be relatively difficult. However, if you take good notes, pay attention during class, and study study study, you will do fine. She is very passionate for the topic which keeps you interested.
Took her for an interim class and she what she was teaching about. She always gave great examples of what we were learning. Has a lot of lectures and the final grade was based off of 4 tests. If you pay attention and study this class will be a breeze. Overall a solid professor.
Heike was a very nice professor, even online listening to her recorded lectures. She has a strong accent which may be hard to understand at first, but you get used to it very quickly. I found her lectures very manageable length wise and even entertaining at times. There are 4 exams, and if you watch the lectures and study, you will do well. 10/10.
A pretty easy class if you already know a little about geography. Attendance isn't necessary, and the only grades are the 4 tests. Questions aren't too hard, straight out of lecture. Lectures aren't too boring, and you can tell she's invested in what she's teaching. Only having 4 things graded can be good and bad at the same time.
