dont take
She is very confusing when she gives her lectures!
she is the worst math teacher ever! she is so confusing. she yells at the class when they do bad on a test. She cant teach. Dont take!
She can not work out the problems. She can not teach, lucky for me i already knew most of the things that were covered. Ver confusing teacher.
very good teacher. Took her time to explain, was very oraganized and well prepared. Can be strict on absentces and tardies. Moved at comfortable pace. Tests were on material she covered, there were no surprises. Would pick her over any math teacher!
takes forever to explain what she is trying to teach.talks too much and seems unsure of what she is trying to say, but after each lecture i somehow seemed to understand.
Not a very good teacher. She's not that great. She doesnt' even know how to explain things right. She is always putting down the class when they don't do something right, and the tests are harder than the ch. tests in the book. Don't take stay away.
takes her one hour to do one problem on the board...goes off topic...not very helpful...does not like to teach the class...very lazy teacher...makes her students feel they cant do anything right...testes are more difficult then the homework...homework that she covers is nothing like her testes...the
Very very hard to understand. One of the worst teachers iv ever had. her lectures are so long and boring. it will take her 1 hr to do a problem and test are nothing like her lectures..there harder!!! yells at the class when your not doing good don't take her calss, if you wanna pass
By far the worst teacher i have ever had. She cannot teach and she just confuses you. Not only that, but she also gets mad when you try to correct her on something shes being unclear about. Math is not a fun subject, and having her as a teacher simply turns math into a horrific nightmare.
I wish I would have read all of these ratings for Helen BEFORE I enrolled for her class Spring 2004. She is by FAR the worst Math teacher I've ever had. She is very unclear and very rude. She treats the class like we are kids. Has a fit if someone walks in late, or asks a question that she has cov
Worst Instroctor at COC, Don't ever take her..........
at some times it seems like she is the only one in the room that doesnt understand whats going off...leaves words out of sentences and cant seem to wirte or speak proper english...treats students like children...
check it out, this teacher is horrible but kiss ass and it can be an easy class. she won't fail anyone who puts forth a good amount of effort. If your just fulfilling requirements take her; if this is foundational for the next class look for another teacher.
She means well but is a terrible teacher. Stay away!!!
This is the worst teacher Ive ever had.Terrible lectures, tests have little to do with the material, seperates ppl if they talk.she is rude and gets mad if you try to correct her.DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.the only way I passed was by following the book.i hated every minute spent in this class.tons of homework and terrible tests. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
she is a good teacher....u just have to show up and pay attention...helps you unlike other teachers
The teacher means well but if you need it to go on then take another teacher. She doesn't give test with material related to what is taught and expects you to read/understand the material- if you have a question she tells you read the book you and you'll understand what to do.
I don't care what all you guys say, Mrs. Atniel was very helpful. She is very strict but if you do your work, it shouldn't be a problem. This algebra stuff finally sunk in for me thanks to her. Don't be late and do your homework and you'll do well.
I don't why everyone's so hard on Mrs. Atniel. She has been the most helpful teacher and I would totally take her for another course. If you're lazy and immature, then don't take her. It may be a junior college, but it doesn't mean it's a kickback ride.
she makes it difficult not to fail her class. very confusing
took it over summer, most difficult math class i've ever encountered. i suggest you not take this class with this professor if you want to pass. PFT!!!! She's sooo confusing!!!!!
you cant understand what she is saying. she speaks too fast and has a huge accent making it difficult to understand what the heck shes trying to teach. she also gets very mad if your over a minute late. too strict.
By far the worst teacher I have ever had. She teaches the material like she thinks you already know it. Hard to follow and very confusing. Tests have very little to do with the lecture. I would suggest no one take her if you want to pass. HORRIBLE TEACHER!
Wow, I didn't think she was that bad. Pretty good teacher. Basically just like every other math class, if you pay attention in class you will understand the material.
Horrible professor
You have to be quick to pick things up b/c she speaks very fast and wont slow down. She relies that you read the book and will consequently use a lot of math terminology rather than plain english. Her tests look a lot like the last hard problems from each HW assingment. But honestly if you do ur work and pay attention and show up you should do well
BEWARE- STAY AWAY. This woman is the worst math teacher I have ever had at COC. If you write the answer in a way she doesn't like, even if it's RIGHT she will give you zero points. She lost my homework, I failed the tests even though I understood the problems and did all the homework. She is horrible at explaining the examples & a HORRIBLE TEACHER.
WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD.She marks your problems wrong if she doesnt like the way you do it even if its right!I did all my homework and failed every test.I set up numerous Appts with her to improve and she made me feel stupid for wanting help and yelled at me for not understanding.I even got tutored everyday after class.DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!
TERRIBLE. i've never failed a class before hers. I couldn't comprehend a word she said and when i tried to teach my self and work from the book in class, she chewed me out. Dont take the class.
Mrs. Atniel was an okay teacher; she knew her stuff and all her quizzes are problems from randomly chosen homework assignments. Make sure you do not take her for morning class, because most likey, you will fall asleep and she'll put you on the spot. Homework/attendance is mandatory if you want to pass her class.
Do not take this class for summer or winter. Worst decision I ever made. Shes nice but has an accent and just isnt a very good teacher at all. Stay away
This teacher is very unprofessional and does not grade properly!! DO NOT take this "high school" teacher. Incompetent. The ratings speak for themselves. She is not helpful when you have questions and don't even bother asking her for help when you messed up on a problem on a test. She gets frustrated and thinks you are questioning her grading skills
This class was ridiculous. The tests that she gives are nothing like the homework or practice problems. Homework is MANDATORY and quizzes are given on random homework problems. She also collects it before a test so you have to do it. Overall she is a BAD professor and try to avoid her class at all costs!
very confusing!!!shes extremely strict, to the point where you cant ask your classmates a question without being yelled at and moved to another seat..very highschool.Very hard to pass! I was not impressed with her teaching skills whatsoever!DO NOT TAKE!!
I have never failed a class until this one. There were over 25 students in the begining and ended up with only 8 at the end. I am not the greatest at math, but this lady just doesnt know how to teach at all!!! Test questions have no relation to homework problems. She will tell you they do, but they dont!! Save yourself the grief and take someone el
Not nearly as bad as others are saying. Teacher means well, has a thick accent but very understandable. Tests are challenging, but match the lecture material. Class was very high paced and always behind. She's very supportive and wants you to do well, will spend time discussing ways for you to improve. Doesn't tolerate tardiness, rudeness.
I have never failed a single class before in my life, until this one. Very unorganized and scattered teaching-hard to follow. Not recommended.
horrible teacher. cant teach class without making mistakes. harsh grader. does not cut slack.do not recommend her!! take someone else.
If you want to fail a class, take this one. This class is basically learn on your own because she expects you to know everything already. Her favorite line is "this should be nothing new" but nobody in the class has seen the material before. Unless you are good at reading, learning , and understanding the book, dont take her. She is horrible.
Do not take a class with this lady. She spends so much time talking about how far behind our class is instead of using that time to teach puts us further behind. If you miss too much class or are late often she'll take time out of the lecture to complain about your absence when its an evening class at a community college.
Atniel is great. Difficult to follow at times but always takes the time to explain it to you one on one, if asked. Had her for 060 and 070 earned an A. All the problems she reviews on the board are similar to those on the exam. Use the textbook as well.
She is the best math teacher I have ever had. When she lectures she is very clear.
This was the worst teacher i have ever had. ive never had a problem with math until her class. i actually enjoyed math until i had atniel. shes rude and a horrible teacher. DONT TAKE HER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!
Very clear very helpful but she has high expectations
This Teacher was one of the worst i have ever had at C.O.C, all she would do is lecture on how students need to respect her rather then talking and interrupting her, if you asked the person next to you a question about a problem, she would yell at you. Would not recommend her whatsoever
I don't get it. Math is math. She's a professional and her teaching abilities prove it. You WILL learn it or else.
NOT GOOD!!! DROP RATE FOR HER CLASS IS OVER 75%
is the kind of teacher who is great if you understand math already. class is straight to the point and fast paced. not that great for people who take a little while for concepts to sink in. doesn't seem to care if you pass or fail.
Before taking this class I messed up on the placement exam and I took very high level math classes before I found that she confused me and I failed three tests.I have never before taking her class failed a math test I remember that after the third test was given back half of the class got up and left because they were failing
Very difficult to understand her accent, but very sweet and willing to help. I wouldn't recommend taking the class with her unless it will be a review of the material.
CAUTION! Let me start off by saying that she is a very sweet lady-- just not when more than half of her class fails her tests. Most students taking algebra prefer for the professor to do numerous examples on the board and only give you only the info you need. Prof. Atniel just gave too much information to students- which confuses most of them.
Show her respect, and she will be respectful back! She doesn't tolerate rude students. She is a really good teacher, but sometimes you need to ask her to clarify if there is too much information at once.
Worst teacher i have ever had. She explains things horribly. Has a thick accent. And grades test ridiculously. She takes points for EVERYTHING, even when you have the right answer and your work is correct.. It has to be to her standard or she will mark off lots of points. Horrible teacher. Not helpful.
Literally the WORST teacher I've ever had. So difficult to understand her teaching methods, I studied for every test and did all my homework and still had a horrible grade. I joined the class with 30 other people and by the end of the semester, there were only 10 people left in the class.. save yourself the trouble and don't take her.
She is very good teacher and helpful. But she doesn't like rude students. She has a thick accent but very understandable and clear.
The material is hard, but if you are serious and ready to work hard you can get a good grade. You have to practice at home, do all the homework, and be always in class to understand the material. It worked out for me- got an A+. Dr. Atniel is very helpful, don't be afraid to ask questions.
You need to study on your time in order to receive a good grade. She is helpful when you ask for it. Not the best professor but she's very sweet!!
Great professor with exceptional knowledge. She answered all my questions and guided me through the course. She will take her time to explain. If you study you will get good grades. She is a very nice person so be respectful and do your work.
Nice professor that teaches kinda slow. Do the hw and study for the exams, she also curves the first exam and drops the lowest grade :)
Prof. Atniel is great. Very helpful and clear. You have to do the hw to get easy points. I did all the hw problems and got an A on every exam including the final. if u have any questions she will help u and make everything clear. but u definitely need to put time on your own. Definitely recommend her if u r a serious student! No place for lazy ppl!
Atniel was not a bad teacher. She taught the lessons well, and would generally answer any questions someone would have about the lesson. However, my problem with her is her grading. She is an incredibly brutal and unfair grader. Unless you follow her instructions on showing work to the letter, you will not prosper in this class. Her way or no way.
She is a carrying professor. She will not baby you but she will help you if you reach out. She will help you if you show you care. Great prof. great woman.
SHE IS A GOOD WOMAN AND SHE CARES ABOUT HER STUDENTS; HOWEVER, SHE IS VERY UNCLEAR AND GETS UPSET WHEN YOU DON'T KNOW THE RIGHT ANSWER. I DON'T RECOMMEND THIS CLASS IF MATH DOESN'T COME NATURALLY TO YOU. SHE DOESN'T EXPLAIN VERY WELL EITHER.
I took this professor at CSUN and she is very helpful. SHE ACTUALLY WRITES ON THE WHITEBOARD INSTEAD OF JUST SITTING AT THE OVERHEAD LIKE MOST PROFESSORS. If you don't understand a concept, she is willing to help you figure it out. She's very funny but expects students to listen and pay attention. This class takes lots of effort but it pays off (:
I though the class was very straightforward. It didn't seem too difficult. She does help you out and continuously warns you what not to do and what to do. She is nice but if the class is loud expect anger. Everything she says is clear and is on the test there are no trick questions. Literally everything she says is on the test, just take good notes
Don't take this class if you're not good in math, if you don't catch on to things quick and if you don't like hw! This professor teaches very fast so if you are not use to asking questions, expect to be lost. Tests are hard and she grades very strictly. She expects you to show explicit work on everything and if you don't she will deduct points.
It's been awhile since I took a math class, so it was hard to remember all the formulas. She is a very caring woman and does have good explanations. When I think about it, her exams aren't hard, but you really have to study and ask questions is key! Practice makes perfect so practice the hw problems and study consistently! Create study groups!
Professor Atniel is a good professor. I took her class over summer and while the work load was a bit much, I still ended up passing the class. Study your notes. If you can write good notes (different types of notations, equations and formulas), you'll be fine. Practice makes perfect. And if you don't understand something, ask questions.
Atniel is a very sweet lady, but her class is really hard. She is preparing you for 103. Don't be afraid to ask her questions! She will do whatever it takes for you to pass this class and move on in future math courses. i wish I created a study group earlier cuz I could have gotten an A. Go to class, take notes, ask questions A+ amazing professor!
Prof. Atniel genuinely cares about her students, but you need to genuinely care about yourself and take your schooling seriously. I watched students drop out of her class, throughout the semester, saying she is too difficult.. however they did not do there homework, or study. If you don't apply yourself, you will fail. Period. Amazing teacher.
I took this class and saw students dropping quickly until there were only like 10 kids left. I stayed because I needed it to move on. This class was tough and the homework was complex, but Atniel is a sweet lady and wants you to pass. She gave good explanations, really hard exams. Her final was tough, I dont know how I passed, but thanks Atniel.
iF you have a terrible professor after taking Atniel you will learn to respect this woman. I have a terrible Math 103 professor and I miss atniel's study guides and lectures now. She was really tough, but she really prepared us for the final. My prof doesnn't even do this! She taught with good explanations and truly cares for success of students.
She is one tough woman, but I grew to love Atniel at the end of semester. She is pretty hard and if you are up for a challenge then take her. However, if you have a low gpa like me I recommend you don't take her since this class is hard to get an A in. You have to work your butt off and go to the TLC. The TLC will be ur best friend taking her.
Atniel is a very caring woman, but her class you need to be focused and ask questions. DO NOT take English and math together because it's hard. If you can take English one sem and math another sem. She is tough so study and get help and make friends. Find people to study with and you can get an A but do it FIRST day of class. It will help.
She is actually such a sweet woman and very caring. Go to the TLC because those people are magical, they will help your grade. If you want an A you need to start a study group first day. Last day she gave some great advice and she's smart. She knows what she's talking about and it's not her way it's the math way. I grew to love her!
Take her if your a business major and have to take upper division calc courses. She really prepares you for math 103 because my final for that was the same as this material I learned in math070. You need to really study and get help from her and TLC, it will help! She is so sweet! Make friends study together your ticket to an A! She's funny too(:
Great teacher! I took her during a 5 week summer course. She isn't easy by any means but an A is definitely doable. She's not a fan of the book they use, so study her notes/examples more than your homework problems. Her tests mimic her study guides, so if you know how to do everything on the study guide there's no reason not to pass!
I took this class in 5 weeks during summer and to say it was intense is an understatement. But , this professor was absolutely wonderful. Probably the first professor I have had that I felt like she genuinely cares about each individual student. She'll talk to you after class and help you with anything you need. Challenging class, outstanding prof.
Atniel is one of those professors that comes off hard, but you start to appreciate it. She really does care for a student's success and will be happy to ask questions. She walked through a problem. She gave out the best study guides that had hard problems which will be on exams! Make sure you are studying consistently and find ppl to study with.
Challenging, but overall does it with a good heart. She is the sweetest person you will ever meet! I loved talking to her and getting help because she is helpful!! She told me I was smart and very good student. End of the course she became my favorite. I'm so sad I'm not taking her for stats(if she taught it) bcause her study guides were good.
As hard as the winter class was, Atniel was amazing and wanted her students to succeed. However, she is a hard grader going as far as to grade steps on exams (Careful small, messy, and light writers; she's picky on writing). She always took and urged questions and went over notes if asked to do so. Atniel is great for those who want to learn math.
I am not going to say she is a tough grader because it is the professors duty to mark something that does not make sense. I am horrible at math and probably will continue to have trouble but one thing that this professor has done that no other professor has was make me understand my errors. She is phenomenal. She made me learn from my mistakes.
She is a good teacher. If you want to truly understand Algebra 2 and be prepared for your higher level math classes I strongly suggest you take her because she will prepare you well. She really opened my eyes to my weaknesses.
Although Prof Atniel was a tough grader, she taught me more about math than any other professor. A few warnings for her class are her tests are difficult, she requires all HW to be turned in, and her lectures are fast paced. Some good notes are that her study guides really helped, she always helps with HW questions, and she cares for her students.
Pretty difficult class, although she is nice, she grades pretty tough and in order to get an A you have to do the homework right away and study before every test, I got a bit off track so my grade was a B but it is possible to get an A.
Helen is the best math professor at coc! She really cares about making sure you pass the class. Shes a tough grader and her lectures can sometimes be fast paced, but she always answers questions. Her study guides really help for tests!
Started with 29 students, ended up with 9 - that should tell you how bad she was. But if that wasn't enough class average on one of our tests was 51, another was 65. BTW she actually accused the class of cheating - if we cheated wouldn't we have gotten better grades. smh. Do not recommend taking her.
Difficult class and tests were HARD. Prof lectures a lot but helped me in office hours going over material. Homework was online and book was free (open stax). She took attendance regularly and doesn't post lecture notes/lecture videos. Prof Atniel never used Canvas before (and mentioned it many times in class ;/) but overall was okay online.
The professor always had difficulties with technology in class and rarely posted on Canvas to keep us updated. It was a math with support class however, I never felt supported. Her lectures were difficult to keep up with at times because there were technical difficulties and she would get frustrated and leave it to us. I do not recommend.
