Comes off as very strict, but as long as you go to class and pay attention-take notes...you'll be fine. Tests are only a small percentage of your grade, so make sure you do well on your paper-not a hard grader on the paper. Make sure you use power-point!

I liked her, but she can be demanding. Not too much work if you pay attention. My only major problem was the alphabetically assigned seating...this isn't elementary school. Big reasearch paper at the end. Overall, ok.

Her notes were of use but by the end of the semester you had a whole textbook of her notes plus the $170 book. I fell asleepe veryday in her class..bad teacher

If you cant pass this class your an idiot. Her first test is difficult, but after that you know the format. Strict with certain things, but overall a nice lady. Class does drag on and on and on though...

I think Boyd is an excellent professor. She shows so much enthusiasm for history and makes the classes interesting. Don't believe anyone who says she's a bad professor!! Her classes are a little tough, but she helps you understand the content.

very nice, has a sense of humor, tells interesting stories and really knows her stuff. her tests arent very hard as long as you read your notes.

She was an excellent teacher. She had great command of the material but, when we have to give a presentation of our papers, it was quite difficult to give a 3 minute speech for a 12-15 page paper. you need more time than that

Good teacher. Can be very interesting at times, she definitly knows her stuff. Occasionally gives HW, but nothing too bad. Tests are fair and you will probaly learn a few things.

First of all shes the coolest nun you'll ever come across. Shes so smart, and makes class interesting and fun. If you listen and take notes, you'll do fine on her tests. She likes maps, but you go over them so much, its not hard. She's the best teacher here, and my favorite.

She's probably one of the best history teachers you'll ever come across...The way she tells her stories about what your learning makes the class very interesting and fun to pay attention to...she's serious about her tests but as long as you pay attention and do the work you'll be fine

Class is very interesting. She is very clear and explains everything! If you attend class, take notes, do her homeworks (which are easy) you will do very well in her class.

i loved her she was a great professor made understanding the material really easy for me. Though I really dont understand her grading system. I always spoke up in class and scored in the 80's on the tests yet she still gave me a C+

she is great, she does expect a lot, but she usually ask everything she already told u, her test are so easy!!! just never forget to study the maps.. if u participate in class u will be fine! she is a sweetheart and she know what she is talking about! she is a great teacher and she is very funny.. she tries to help u out as much as posible!

Great teacher, if i could take her again i would. I did the best in her class. there were only 3 tests, 3 hw readings and a project (presentaion and paper). Deff was easy. Great teacher, funny, and very helpful and understanding. Study the maps and go over notes, you will deff get at least a B

This was one of my faovrite professors, don't get me wrong she is not easy but she gives you all her class notes for 10$ and tells you exactly what is on the exam, she makes class exciting - you would think she lived in ancient times by the way she talks about it - def take her i got an A!!!!!!!

This lady knows her stuff. She sells the notes that you need for class for $10 (that's better than spending $100 on the book). The tests include essays but if you study you should good on them. This is not a teacher that just gives out good grades, you actually have to earn them. The way she teaches history almost makes you think she was there.

my absolute favorite. she is so funny...she has an awesome personality. if you have no interest in this subject, she will make you interested because she is THAT good. test are multiple choice with an essay...not hard, esp if you know someone who previously took the class!!!! take her, shes amazing.

You buy notes from her which is alot less then the text book. When she talks you feel like she was there, gives a decent amount of work but fair grader. Makes history extremely interesting, no one falls asleep. Very funny, very sarcastic. Would absolutely take her again.

She is the best professor out there all those slackers who said she is hard are just playing dumb! If you study all your work you will get an easy A. just pay attention do your work and you'll have an A the only hard part is the writing of the 8-10 page paper but once done with that your free. No Midterm only final which is all essay!

shes a nice teacher but going to class is amjst bc she takes attendance every day, but the tests was easy and theres a mid marking semester project which is alrite if u like writting a 10 page paper on a certain civilization, but overall id say shes a great teacher and loves what she does.

she is very into the material and def keeps u awake, however, her tests consist of a map, 20 m.c, 5 written out definitions nd a well written essay. Whoever can do that is 45 min is crazy. Also her readings every week are sometimes not easy..she's a touch lady but very interesting nd i actually have always hated history.

Helen Boyd is an excellent teacher. History is not my favorite subject but she makes it interesting. She is very clear and knows a lot about what she teaches. She grades tough but the main idea of her tests and assignments are remember the details. She also charges you $20 for her personal notes instead of getting a textbook which is great.

She's great. Very little homework, easy tests. She doesn't use the school textbook she has her own that you can buy for $20.

This class is pritty easy. Study for the tests and you will do fine. group project at the end of the year which was difficult but other than that this was a pritty easy class. she gives very little homework and any hw she gives is a short reading and a couple follow up questions. I am taking her again next semester thats how much i liked the class

Shes a great teacher who is very passionate about what shes teaching. She makes it very interesting. I've taken her two semesters in a row. You get 3 or 4 tests and a bunch of reading assignments with questions. At the end you have to do a presentation and 8 page paper on a chosen topic. I'd take her again. Do what she asks and you'll do good

She is very nasty and talks to the class like there in the fourth grade, she piles on work and is a very hard grader. She gives you articles and you will lose ten point on grammar alone, to get by in her class pay attention and be a kiss up. I definitely didn't desire the grade I received.

I've taken 2of her classes so far, shes full of energy she's funny& makes everything a story.. if you do you're work and pay attention theres no reason why you should'nt pass. participate, and show you're interest. dont fall asleep or drift off she'll call on you. overall great teacher she's making me want to be a education/history major.

This teacher is AWESOME. She makes the lecture interesting & everything she says is very clear. For a more elderly woman, she is full of energy & bounces around room to keep the class listening. She gives readings with questions & 4 journal reports a semester. Very easy to get an A. Definitely recommend her! <3

Best teacher I had first semester of college. Crystal clear with her lectures. Has her own textbook. Take good notes on laptop or in notebook and you'll breeze through this class. Make sure you stay focused.. she always calls on you when you dont expect it. Can be cranky at times but keeps class entertaining

overall a good professor. however if you don't put full effort into essays or journals, instead of giving a reasonable grade, she will just give a 50. She intentionally embarrasses students who don't know answers. If you do all the work assigned you will have no problem. Tests are not too hard. She is a tough grader for journals and essays.

Awesome professor! Extremely helpful bit is a hard grader and gives a lot of assignments. Her class is so interesting. She will call on you when you least expect it so always pay attention. Very Good teacher, she is very clear and is willing to help you when you need it. However, she is a tough grader and usually gives you lots of work and tests are usually filled with definitions,maps, multiple choice and an essay. If you have teachers that are hard and you want an easy grade for history, she is not the teacher to take.

Great teacher. But, a lot of work. Papers, hw, and test. If you don't want to do work don't take her. She makes everything very clear and easy to understand. She's funny and interesting. Very lively for an old lady. No text book she makes her own for only $20.

Such a good teacher! I never liked history until I had her because she makes it interesting & easy to understand. As long as you do all your hw assignments, exactly what she asks for papers and don't zone out during class, you'll be fine. She's a little old woman but she's with it & makes me laugh when teaching. I would definitely recommend her!!!

If you pay attention on class and do your work on time, you will get a good grade. She is pretty good professor, her classes are interesting, she knows what she is teaching. She's a funny old lady but hard. If you participate in class, pay attention & do your work she'll pass you. But she gives long tests and hw assignments. She's old so don't bother emailing. But good teacher she knows the material really well & can explain everything in depth & clearly. I took her for intro to history & HST 201

She is one of the best teachers I have ever had in my life. She is very clear and knows the topic very well. She's tough as nails, but as long as you follow what says to do you should be in good shape. I chose to take her again thats how good I felt she was. MAKE SURE YOU DO HER WORK!!!

Allows you to buy a book packet from her for $20 which is very helpful since she doesn't post the power points online. Great teacher really knows history and makes class interesting. She is tough though 5 huge article papers due . She does offer to read you paper before you hand it in. Tests aren't bad if you pay attention. Keep up with the hw

Dr. Boyd was one of my favorite professors! I had her twice, for HST 101 and 201. Even though she is strict grader, she is very clear. She assigns four or five long papers a semester but is very willing to help. Tests are not bad as well. Definitely take her if you can! Textbook is made by her and sells it for $20.

She's funny, nice, helpful, but very serious about work. She gives you the opportunity to make up any missed work, but with a price. Good teacher, tests are not hard at all if you just study your notes. Only downside is the journal articles she makes you write after every unit.

B in both HST 201 and 110. Very funny teacher, clear and packet is 20$. The only thing I did not like were the journal articles. 5 of them and totaled 30 percent of grade. Map quizzes were easy and essays for every test along with definitions.

This teacher wants her students to do well. I was struggling in the beginning of the class with the journal article's but she met with me on her own time to help me which drastically improved my grade. This may not be an easy A but I have learned so much in this class. She doesn't just read off powerpoint she gives great lectures that are clear.

A teacher who is obviously passionate about History and definitely wants her students to learn. I had her for HST 201 and while at times, the workload might be annoying (journals), it's one of the only classes that I actually learned in and expanded my knowledge on history. You're grade is reflective of the work you put in.
