I swear if you don't pass this class you don't belong in accounting. She's one of the best accounting instructors at SJSU. I am glad she only teaches 121a because if she taught 121b the accouting classes at state would be a joke.

This professor isn't all easy. Homework due every Tuesday and her examples don't really help you on the homework. Althought she does give good study guides for her midterms and finals. I don't think there are any better prof. out there so i suggest her.

Helen is a great instructor. You MUST attend classes though as she tests only from her lectures. The lectures are easy to understand but you'll take LOTs of notes. Good class. If you study and practice you can get an A.

HARD. make sure you do all the hw and don't miss class. i missed a bunch of her lectures and got screwed cuz she tests straight from it. not one of those classes you can just chill and still get a C.

This lady is smart, beautiful, and extremely nice. I had her for financial accounting and i studied JUST before the tests and i got a B+. If you're so dumb that you do all the hw and pay attention and NOT pass HER class, consider changing your major. Or else, dont complain about this lady.

This is a hard class. She is a very good teacher and very fair too. You will learn in this class, she is very clear. Prepare to study no matter who you take for 121A. She's cute too, which helps.

Her tests are easy if you read the questions carefully,which i did not for the final(study all her lectures notes, missed one question because i didn't), so I'm afraid how I did, but the way she grades is fair(relative to the whole class). Ideal professor: just show up in class and do a HW = easy A. Believer in simplicity she makes potentionlly complex subject very easy. Gives tons of clues about CPA exam questions. Brings tears in your eyes when compared with other Business professors. True angel! The only drawback is her early in the morning class times.

I took her for both A & B and she was very good. I never read the book just attend all classes as lectures are very detailed. Homework is very important to retain the understanding of the lectures.

Everything comes from lectures, I never read the text, but you need it for hw. EVERYTHING is written down, just copy for notes. All examples she gives are similarly used in HWs. Start hw early so if you're stuck, you can ask after class or email. I got an A+ for my final grade despite getting a C in the bonds quiz. The final was not THAT hard.

Bus 12A&B are very hard subject,but Helen makes it easy to understand.She definitely invests a lot of time in preparing the lecture before comes to the class.Her lectures are so clear and helpful that you should grasp the material and be good at tests.She is always happy to help students via emails and during office hrs.Good at teach,love teaching.

She is an awesome teacher. Her lectures are VERY VERY clear and she will help you on whatever you need help on inside and out of class. She takes her time on things and puts everything on the board. prof. brubeck is really good at clarifying any confusing topics, always willing to help you out. lots of lecture notes and gives homework every class, i would recommend trying to attend everyday because of all the material she covers each meeting.

Class was VERY easy. I never once read the book or did the homework. I just looked over my notes 2 days before the tests and I ended up with an A-.

BRUBECK is awesome!! Clear! she's not hot, just nice looking lady. her tests can be tricky. just do your homework, it helps a lot. She tries very hard to make u understand the important stuff. just read over her classnotes, reading the book=useless. she curves. I got Cs/Ds on her test, but study for the final (40%) really hard. got B+ in class.

Brubeck is AWESOME! I got an A in her class. her test come straight from homework and lecture. she twitches up a lil bit on her exams, but if you understand the material well, then they are easy. look out for her midterm and final reviews, she ALWAYS adds something that is not on the review, but just go over all the homework and lectures.

YOU MUST ATTEND CLASS TO PASS THIS CLASS! All exams are based 100% on lecture... you might... I say might even be able to pass the class without the textbook... that is how important it is to attend class and takes very good notes! Word of advice, know how to work the problems from several angles bcuz it's not on the test exactly like the notes.

Material itself is difficult, but Brubeck is probably the best instructor for the class. Overall, she's very clear. She also does a grade adjustment. She was very helpful during office hrs.

Everyone claims she is super easy but i dont agree. The whole class she lectures and doesnt stop till the very last minute. Her tests are all problems which you have to work out. I found them to be different from the hw and study guides. my friends and i would fail all her tests yet pass the class in the end with a C?!?!

One of the best business teachers I've had! Homework is due once a week, but usually doesn't take very long. Her exams are based heavily on the homework, and her lectures make the material much easier to understand than the book does. If you attend class and take good notes, you should do well in this class. Highly recommended!

Great teacher! Going to class is a must. Homework is based on lectures and tests are based on homework. Book is only used for homework. Do all the homework and the tests won't be as hard. Grade based on homework, and 3 tests; comprehensive final is optional to replace a lower test score.

Friendly, approachable, organized. She explains things throughly. As long as you do the homework, you get credit regardless of whether or not you get it right. Optional comprehensive final. Attendance not mandatory, however, if you go to class and pay attention you don't need to read the book.

I love the fact that she doesnt make you buy a $250 book, but man, if you arent a good note taker, you will suffer. Anyways, I took good notes, but I found that on the exams she tries to trick you and the problems are a bit harder than the homework. She is the best professor! She is so good in teaching that she is able to make difficult accounting concepts so easy to understand. She shows you how to do the calculation and journal entry step by step. She gives you real CPA questions as part of homeworks. That's really helpful. I highly recommend her.

She is so kind and truly caring. Seems a bit shy though but her personality comes out in lecture. Tells interesting YET relevant stories. Also, she is very brilliant and knows the material well (She wrote the study guide for the text!). She could easily work at Stanford and SJSU is blessed to have her. One of the best math professors! I had zero interest in accounting prior to this class, but she explains everything crystal clear and doesn't rush the material. Very approachable and sweet. She's very fair and wants students to try their best to succeed. Grades based on effort, and I appreciated that! Definately take her for financial accounting!

If you are or not an accounting major, you must take this professor. Her teaching style is excellent. Come to class, take good notes, do the homework for practice, study hard before the test, and you will do well in her class. She believes that its her job to teach, not a textbook's job to teach us. Brubeck is a great professor. It's an easy class and she really knows what she's talking about; she is a certified accountant in the U.S. and Canada, which is pretty telling of how knowledgeable she is. The only time I used the book was for homework, otherwise, just go to lecture, study the reviews and you'll be good to go.

shes a really great teacher because she lays out everything we need to know about the subject itself and goes step by step for us to understand. definatly taking her upper division classes.

I took her for 121b and I loved every second. Yes we studied like crazy and yes I wanted to pull my hair out at one point. She explains every concept from the ground up and is clear. Exams can be hard but just practice her HW problems, and the review sheets she gives and you will get a B at least. Plus she curves so if you have a B expect an A-.

Grades tests fairly and final grade is based on the class distribution. Gives study guides and HW, do these until it's second nature and tests aren't too bad. energetic about topic and is available through email office hours AIM and a forum-type website; she is available & Responds FAST. THE BEST accounting teacher I have EVER had at sjsu AND DeAnza! She is SO clear AND graceful in her lectures. Cares about her students and wants everyone to pass. Rather than looking at your score she will look at your overall performance throughout the semester, like are you doing better and better on each exam, or are you getting worse. Take her.

I love her class! I knew nothing about accounting before I entered this class. Her lectures and examples are clear and easy to understand. She is funny too. I learned a lot from her class. 3 tests, 1 quiz, weekly homework, and optional final(if you do well on the 3 tests, you don't have to take the final).

Took Brubeck a few years ago. After graduating I would say she is in the top 5 best professors at SJSU. Students love her because she makes extremely difficult topics easy to understand by using realistic examples. She deserves a raise and some praise! HUGE asset to the department, college, and SJSU.

If you're struggling with accounting try and take Brubeck! She makes every concept extremely clear.I wish I could have taken my initial accounting courses with her.Hands down the best accounting professor@SJSU! Class consists of 4 exams and one optional final. Grading is extremely fair.Lessons plans are very organized.No textbook required!

She is a great professor without a doubt. The only thing is this class is HARD. Do not expect an easy grade, she is a very difficult grader on her exams, but hey at least you get partial credit. MUST go to class because all her lectures are on the exam. Made her own online textbook, very helpful.

3 midterms, one optional final for replacing grade. 1 homework per week of (on average) 5 questions only. 1 quiz (moderate difficulty). Class is straightforward and self paced; study whenever you want, and attend whenever also. Homework can be sent by e-mail when due. All homeworks receive full credit, even if all wrong, just attempt. Easy A!

Take her!! One of my favorite professors I've had at SJSU. HW is not graded. Just attempt each problem and you'll get credit. 4 tests with an optional final to replace an old test. Attend class! You'll get behind if you miss a class cos she goes over a lot of material but she is very clear about every topic.

Hands down best accounting professor. I learned alot in her class, very useful homework and lectures. She has a very energetic vibe even at 7:00 AM, must be a Canadian thing. Had her for fall 2013. I'm not a math "person" and the concepts were difficult. But prof. makes the class interesting and VERY clear. She has practice test available- lifesavers! Love her stories and homework loads were light. If I didn't know any better, she almost made me want to switch majors. THAT GOOD. I find most teachers at state mediocre; breath of fresh air.

Brubeck is one of the best professors a student can take at SJSU. Super clear lectures, writes out notes and practice problems on whiteboard, and provides hand-outs each class. Her grading is also very fair, but you must study!! Attend her classes b/c accounting is one of those subjects that if you miss one, you'll be quite lost.

Math is not my subject, and I thought I would struggle getting a C in this course, but I ended up with a B. The course contains 3 midterms and an OPTIONAL FINAL to replace one of your midterms. There are homework(15) due every week. If you need help, go to her office hours, she was very helpful when I went. If you have the chance, take her!

I had her for two consecutive semesters both for bus20 and bus121a. She is a great professor who genuinely cares for her students. Her lectures are clear , consistent, and easy to follow and her tests are entirely based on her lectures. Textbook not needed at all. Final exam is optional to replace lowest of 3 midterms.

Not too difficult. The textbook is an online text written by her so lectures are almost identical to the text. Uses lots of examples to make things easy to understand. Tells you what to expect for each exam. The final is an optional, cumulative, make-up exam. Weekly HW is graded based on effort, not correctness.

After taking this class, you'll either love accounting or hate accounting. Great professor. Great lectures. Online textbook for homework. 3 Exams including an optional final. Also a bonds payable quiz. She really knew her material and mad she her students knew too. She curves too.

Helen's a real gem, no textbook, you will learn entirely from lecture. I'm a textile learner and thought that would be trouble, but she's really solid in lecturing. She won't miss a thing and very happy to answer all questions. She was also a really nice grader on tests, always tried to give partial credit. Take her.

Great definition of what a teacher should be - explains concepts super clearly and in a way that makes sense, meaning no need to read or even purchase the textbook. Makes good use of full class period. Not easy but you learn a lot.

She does a great job at explaining the material. The tests are just like the homework and she is always ready to help you understand.

Your grade is only based on the 3 tests. But she teaches really well and explains the concepts clearly. The final is optional and not mandatory. No homework is required but recommended and no textbook is used. If you took her for Bus 20, she has the same set up.

Professor Brubeck has a passion for the subject and teaching, and it shows through her teaching. She made a difficult subject for most students understandable. She used great in real life examples that helped connect to the topic and increased students' understanding. You have to study hard and do the work, but it's possible to get an A.

If I could give professor 10 stars, I would. It is very easy to follow and understand her lectures. She does not require the books or hw. If you come to class and make sure you understand the material, if not ask her right aways. She is very generous & helpful. I just hope she would teach Bus 121B. Strongly recommended.

Honestly the best teacher I've ever had in my life, and trust me, I've had amazing teachers before. She gives entertaining lectures and explains everything carefully. she's easily approachable for assistance and her tests are easy if you pay attention in class. You won't regret taking her class.

She's probably one of the easier accounting teachers, she's really nice and always willing to help. However I changed my major throughout the semester so it was hard to stay motivated. Even tho I didn't perform well in the class I still passed, she's very approachable and wants to help you! Reccomend her

Prof. Brubeck reminds me my favorite accounting professor at my community college. The way she teaches the course is extremely similar and effective, just like the way i like it. She also gives out partial credits on the exam, which is something i doubt many professor does. Overall, solid professor to take and is certainly the best for 121A.

Honestly the best professor/class I have ever taken! She's very engaging and helpful. Her exams can be a bit tough but you should be fine if you understand the material and use all of the resources she provides -- she gives partial credit! Also, try to not miss any lectures because every lecture is filled with a lot of information

By far the best accounting professor I've ever had. The lectures are all you need, no textbook or online hw used. The hw she gives is optional, but necessary if you want to do well on the exams. Grade is only composed of three non-cumulative exams, and the final (cumulative) is only required if you want to replace one of your previous exam scores.

If you show up to the lectures and listen, you'll get a good grade! She teaches everything in depth and very specifically. Homework is relatively simple and she grades for completion, not accuracy. She shows you how to do the first exam, and if you study for the others it's an easy a. Final is optional, too

This class is challenging, but she teaches it extremely well that you shouldn't be left clueless. However, you need to attend class and study a lot to pass.

Your grade is made up of three tests based on in class lectures so don't screw that up. Go to class and do the hw. It's a tough subject, but if you put in the work you'll get the grade.

Best Intro to Accounting teacher ever. Explains the criteria well and gives sample questions 1 week prior to exam for you to study from. Class consisted of HW each week, 2 Midterms Quiz, and Final (optional if you already like your grade or take it which replaces you lowest). Mandatory attendance. HANDS DOWN BEST! WORTH THE EARLY CLASS SCHEDULE!

She is super kind & wants her students to succeed. She has flexible office hours & even an online chat room where you can be anonymous if you want. There is homework every week graded on completeness. Heavy lectures but she makes it very clear & understandable. Encourages questions. I recommend reading the book & doing practice prbs for extra help

Professor Brubeck is an amazing professor. She is very engaging and knows the material well. She wrote her own book and it is relatively expensive compared to other accounting textbooks. She walks through multiple examples and really keeps in mind where the difficulty is for students. Take her class!

Prof doesn't give alot of homework; mainly 1 hw per week and due on the same day. Lectures are actually enjoyable and easy to understand. Final is optional if you completed the first 3 midterm test and happy with your current grade.

Her lectures are key to doing well in the class! Her exams are similar to the practice problems covered in class, along with the homework she assigns. She incorporates a lot of stories/cheesy humor into her lectures which helps you memorize the trickier concepts of accounting. Can't wait to take the higher division accounting courses with her again

she is honestly the best professor for a course as dense as this. she does a super job explaining the material and providing help on harder concepts. she has her own textbook on her own platform and her grading is super clear. 15 hw 3 exams FINAL IS OPTIONAL it just replaces a bad exam score if you need it. pay attention and do well on exams

Professor Brubeck is one of the best professors i've had. She writes her own book, all the class/ hw problems and her own exams. Her exams are extremely similar to what you learn in class. She's an amazing prof that actually knows how to teach and knows what she is doing. Super fair and always accessible.

I took 18 units and managed to pass. Listen carefully, write good notes, study off notecards, and contact students. This class was made extremely easier due to YT in my opinion. (Rewinds!!!)She uses real-life examples to teach you class concepts, and I can honestly say she helped solidify my major change choice. A bit hard to reach outside of class

There are 2 lectures a week and 6 test throughout the school year. The homework and textbook is on an online program. I took this online so the lectures were recorded. She explains lectures very well and is available during office hours. I recommend reviewing study guides before the test and pay attention to the lectures. Get ready to learn w/ her

Lectures are super helpful with example problems that are explained. Final was optional to replace a bad test score. As long as you study the examples and lectures, you're good to go.

She is the kind of professor that I would want to have for all my classes. Her lectures included many examples that showed her main points. She used relevant examples to help the concepts stick better. Each homework problem allowed us to practice exactly what we learned in class. The tests are very similar to the homework.

She has very thorough and in depth lectures and as long as you write everything down the hw and tests are straightforward, and the hw slowly goes up in difficulty per question which helps with better understanding that weeks' concepts. Great professor who gives in-depth lectures with examples that is similar to HW, which is only graded on participation. The tests are modest, but she provides a helpful study guide on her mandatary online course you have to buy. Her way of grading tests is really forgiving if you make an error on a question. Doesn't give out extra credit.

Professor Brubeck rocks! This was my first time EVER taking a business class & accounting no less, so you can imagine I was pretty terrified. Prof. Brubeck taught concepts in easier ways for non-business majors to understand (using diagrams, memory tricks, class worksheets everyday) & it definitely made me more assured for other business classes.

Professor Brubeck is an amazing lecturer who knows how to convey accounting principles in a clear and concise manner. She would also give the class stories and tricks to help us remember complicated concepts. The bulk of your grade depends on the midterms (final is optional), but redoing and practicing the in-class handouts are good ways to study.

Loved this professor!!! She is super amazing and teaches every concept very clearly. The textbook is written by her and it is pretty much a transcript of her lectures. DO THE HW, REVIEW THE WORKSHEET PROBLEMS, PRACTICE TB example problems and do the study guide!!! YOU WILL GET AN A. She gives partial credit even if you get a question wrong.

Professor Brubeck is the an exceptional professor. She keeps students best interests in mind. Make it to class, take notes, ask questions and you'll do just fine. Make sure you understand the concept, DO NOT just memorize the steps. I would have her as my professor for all my courses if I could lol. She is outstanding.

Super sweet, only 3 exams which she provides study guides for and final is optional. Very clear and makes the lectures very understanding and easy to learn. Amazing teacher. She always answers questions and breaks down material in manageable amounts. The class is test-heavy but she provides so many examples in class and in the homework to work on that help a lot on the test. Try to stay ahead by staying on top of the homework as lectures go on to fully grasp the concepts.

Arguably the best professor in SJSU. Very well organized and her lectures are out of this world! It is hard to fail her class. You have all the materials needed to pass and if you fail, its all on you. Dont miss lectures. She is all the things you need in a great professor. Study, do your part, you will pass.

best professor I've had by far in college. the only reason I got a C+ was because I didn't put the effort I should've but you don't even need to try that hard to be successful . The class is so easy and fun and Professor Brubeck makes it so easy to understand the "harder" lessons.

Best Accounting Professor ever! Very detailed with her lectures and makes clear on difficult topics. You don't need the textbook because the Professor already grinds all the information from the textbook into easy bites. She's also very caring and would provide opportunities and guidance if needed. Would take her again!

If you need to take BUS20N don't take anyone else. Prof. Brubeck is one of those professors that knows the course really well. She is also very understanding of students situations, she makes lecture very easy to understand, though you'd have to buy the book to do the homework. It's not bad. I'd recommend taking her class.

She's a great professor. As BUS1 20 is a beginner course, I suspect it would have been easy no matter which professor you would take. I know Professor Brubeck definitely cares enough to not assign homework that is due on days of tests, and she gives ample time for studying and goes over which topics to go over. Take her but put in the effort.

She genuinely made accounting seem so easy. Her lectures are so informational and I genuinely hated whenever I would miss one due to the amount of clarity and examples she would provide. There are 3 tests and one quiz. You can miss one test and be a-okay. She is a great example of a good professor.

Professor Brubeck makes all of the content she teaches very understandable. You do have to show up to class to learn the material, but she sets you up for success on the exams with study guides, practice problems, and she tests you on the exact same material that she lectures.

She does a great job teaching the information while making it easy to understand for everyone. Learning from the hw and study guides is also extremely useful for the exams. The class may seem intimidating, but as long as you focus on the lecture and do the work, you will be fine.

I only earned a C because I struggle in tests but Prof. Brubeck made accounting fun and interesting. The textbook which she wrote herself is online and mandatory due to it being the class and homework website instead of Canvas. But she is approachable and easy to understand. Final grades are mostly on tests but she curves based on class averages.

Don't take this class if you plan on skipping lectures because you will fall behind. She also offers 3% grade boost if you get a certificate from forage and it literally takes 15 min to complete.

This is the best teacher OAT. her lectures are heavy so try to not miss it but she is really good at explaining everything and is easy to follow her for this class. Would highly recommend, you gotta put in the work but her teachings pay off in the end. Has extra credit and uses worksheets like in H.S. to really follow along and make sure its easy!
