Math was easy for me, I just wanted to comment because I thought she was a pretty cute redhead.
She is really passionate about math and her enthusiasm about the subject shows. She's very encouraging and has a great positive attitude.
this class was easy for me cos i took reg calc the prior year so i ended up throwing up a few different ideas and ways to do something. she appreciated that and i respected her a lot. great instructor. A+ Thanks Helen.

she knows what shes teaching. But she is the moodiest, most menopause, annoying teacher ever. The whole quarter she only gave one progress report, she didint give one before the final. HOW DUMB? She does a lot of in class crap, which is dumb. Take her class, you'll learn, but she'll annoy the hell outta you. GOOD LUCK
Dedicated
Very good professor.
She's hot, confident and intelligent.
She is such a great instructor. If you don't understand something, she explains it until you get it. She has an open door policy so help is always avaliable.
Helen is awesome. She is so helpful. If you need a stats class, take this one. Highly recommended.
This woman has HORRIBLE mood swings. She even made a girl in my class cry. We spent the first three weeks or so doing averages. I learned that in THIRD GRADE. She made rude comments to her students. RUN, RUN, Run away from her class.
For one of the group projects, we asked about our graph and she said she it was perfect. Then when she graded it, she was like "Actually, I don't like it" and knocked off points for it. Why didn't she just say that initially so we could change it!? In addition, I felt like I was losing my intelligence.
She uses perfect in a sense that tells you your work is really good, and to keep at it. Moody? Not really, her teaching style keeps things interesting; it may seem fast-paced but all you have to do is speak up. Makes mathematical errors from time to time, but who doesn't? She offers tons of help out of class so feel free. Highly recommended teacher
I love her. She is a great professor. She makes Math become really interesting. I like the way she explains our material, solves our problems really carefully. She is kind of strict, but that's good. If u respect the class, she will respect u. I strongly recommend taking her class
I love Helen! She made class fun. If you don't do the work and try to slide by on your buddy's coat tails you will be in trouble. Other students have rated her as moody which baffles me. I found her helpful, clear and sympathetic to my math issues. If only she had taught Calc the quarter I needed it!!! Don't let the brats get you down Helen :)
I love Helen! She made class fun. I found her helpful, clear and sympathetic to my math issues. If only she had taught Calc the quarter I needed it!!! Don't let the brats get you down Helen :)
excellent teacher, made math fun.
Excellent Instructor
She is fantastic. SUPER understanding - she extends homework if something goes wrong or people just didn't quite understand. Textbook not required! We used Web Assign and she can post parts of the book for you! Absolutely one of THE best at Highline. No doubt. If you have to take a math class, take her classes.
She is the best! I took her Business Calculus class during the summer and it was absolutely the best math class ever. She is super chill and really helpful. She likes engaging with students and she is soooooooo smart! If you get a chance, DO NOT hesitate to take her! she is the best:) You dont need the textbook, just for reference.
She's fast, so you better keep up and do the homework! the weekly quizes are easy if you understand! so make sure you do...her midterms and final is straighforward. easy A course (just practice)
Best teacher ever! I love her teaching style and she is very down to earth and kept the class interesting. Make sure you keep up and you do fine..
Great Professor! She's straightforward and actually makes Math fun. I would highly recommmend taking her class.
Fantastic teacher! super helpful and nice. she knows what she is doing. Come to class, listen and do hw (which isn't too bad) and you will definitely do good in her class. I would take her again for another class! Super Awesome Fantastic Great Teacher :)
This is a very dedicated instructor. She seems to really care about her students and their sucess.
great professor. helped me out alot. wish I could have her as my professor in another class
Best math teacher!! Extremely helpful and motivating. If you don't pass her class, you won't pass any other math lol. Minimal work, more focus on understanding concepts. I hate math, and she makes me want to do math. She's sarcastic so don't take anything personal. I want her for all my math, but I know that's not possible.
Before this class, i really despised math to the fullest extent. Then i took a class with helen, and everything changed. Everything made so much sense. And i realized that, i really love math. Im taking math 111 with helen right now and its awesome. Im going to take every math class i can with helen, and trust me. you should too.
Helen is the best math instructor I've had by far. She's a master at techniques and concepts. And if you're a person who would like to get something out of math, I recommend taking any math class she has. She's extremely helpful and is fair.
At first I liked Helen, but I won't be taking her again. She is a bit rude for being a professor at a community college and treats you like you're stupid if you haven't completely grasped the concept after she's touched down on it for a few minutes. Class moves very fast and she locks you out if your 60 seconds late. Beware!!
I was awful at math in high school almost a decade ago. Helen took away the mysticism and explained it in terms I could understand. She is an incredibly good teacher, especially if you pay attention to what she has to say. I will say I was relatively bored once I grasped a concept, but that's not really her fault. 111 with her is even better.
Helen is the best math professor I have ever had and probably will ever had. She teaches math exceptionally, with an approach that anyone can learn the math and anyone can succeed. She cares if you pass and wants to see you get it!
Great teacher. She knows all the material and does quite a few activities to help you understand it too. She will say whats on her mind and that might be annoying to some, but it makes her lectures interesting. Highly recommended professor.
Fantastic Teacher, really. If you think you could never understand math, think again. Her class is hard, but she works hard at helping you understand the concepts, the once hard assignments become easy when you understand them. I really hope i get into her math148 class next quarter.
Upbeat and breaks math down so that it's understandable. She moves fast for the people who get the concept which I liked, but also invites those who don't get it to stay after class. Makes math enjoyable!
Excellent instructor. Very helpful and smart. Made the material understandable and even fun. No extremely hard concepts, but offered extra help. Big focus on group activities and group project at end of quarter. Has her own opinions regarding certain things but overall, a really great person to take math from. I would highly recommend Helen.
She was the most helpful instructor I have ever had for a math course. If you just follow along throughout class time and pay attention you should be good. Made every bit of class fun, definitely recommend her!!!
extremely helpful, made me love math.
If you are struggling with Math and think that you can't take Statistics. Take her class! She breaks down every formula, and makes it 10x easier to understand. She is a good teacher and knows her stuff well. I liked that she checked with every group to make sure that everyone is following along.
Honestly one of the best professors at Highline!
Highly recommend H. Burn for any math class! She is very helpful, teaches in a way that makes things "click." Tests are straightforward and not hard if you listen in class, do the homework, and ask questions. She actually made statistics interesting! Lots of group work and a project assignment (not bad). She brought fun into the classroom. Loved it
Helen is quite passionate about her work which helped interest me. Live statistics are used in lecture and in tests. Schedule is the same each week so it is easy to prepare for class. HW due once a week, final project, lectures, concept quizzes. Grades fairly. FUN CLASS! Did not need physical text since WebAssign has e-book.
Helen is a great teacher! She grades fairly and tests are not difficult if you attend class and ask questions.I would recommend taking one of her classes.
Overall- great teacher, easy material & a fun class. Realized how fun stats was after taking it w/ her. However, she sometimes comes off as rude. If you don't know what you're doing, she'll make you feel dumb. I could of gotten a 4.0 but didn't because of my project. Also, GO TO CLASS EVERYDAY!
She is very upbeat and enthusiastic with teaching. She is very helpful when you have questions and teaches very effectively in a way that you will learn the material easily and competently. She will know you by name which makes me feel special. :D If you don't like math, take her class because she will make you love it!
Fun and SUPER easy. Its great to find a prof that thinks learning should be fun! The classis like a brake from my other classes. If you can add, its an easy 4.0.
A very good instructor! She was engaging and made class go by quickly. There are weekly quizzes but are fairly easy (they have extra credit). She goes over materials until everyone understand and is very patient. Highly recommended
Helen Burn is a great teacher. She is enthusiastic, really knowledgeable and well organized. I loved her class. She makes sure that the material is understood, (which is why I'm able to say statistics was easy), and makes class fun. I really learned a lot in her class and definitely would recommend her to anyone wanting to take statistics.
Her class is amazing. The way her class is structured helps a lot with learning the material. Weekly quizzes are easy and so were the exams and final. Extra credit on everything. She is straight forward, so if you need your hand held, go to another class. This class is never boring! So far, this is my most favorite class at HCC!
Multiple attempts to see her during office hours were wasted. Didn't respond to emails. Difficult teacher.
Helen is helpful, fast answering the questions online, and she gave me several examples when I had questions. She is very good on making answers simple to understand. She is great on grading, she can tell when the student didn't understand the subject at all and wrote down anything or when the student just got messed up with signs, for example.
I had her for both Math 148 & 146. If you have thick skin then I recommend her. I learn a lot from her style of teaching. If you are on her good side then don't worry, study hard and show her you care and she will put effort into you. If you chat during class or complain about your grade and don't try to improve she may be mean to you. You never know what kind of mood she will be in so if you can deal with that, and just pay attention what what she is trying to teach you, you will succeed. She didn't just teach me how to do the math she explained why, which is very important.
She's super fun and super easy. This class is enjoyable. Helen's always cracking jokes and makes the class more like a party. Sometimes we just sit there and talk. 146 with her is an easy A. You won't even have to study.
Helen is awesome! I love her! She really knows her stuff :)
Helen never lecture, we only have a few pages for our lecture note. She separate us in to groups and do group task when no one know how to solve the question. I spent much time doing hw because she NEVER TEACH. She has bad attitude towards students. She make jokes that are not funny. What she mention and what is on the hw is very different
Don't take this class with her! She is the worst teacher I've had experience with ever. She is very mean when you don't understand a problem and expects the whole class to know how to do it the first time. I wasn't understanding a certain problem in my group, and she goes off on me telling me to "study 10 hours a week or drop out of my class" rude
The instructor should change her attitude toward students. She tough grader and not clear lecture.
she is a great teacher! take it and you won't regret it. you will pass the class if you are keep on track with class work..
Very recommend!! very easy to pass her class if you are reviewing everything you guys learn in class before taking quizzes and exam..
I'm a hard worker, and I earn consistently high grades in my classes. I earned a high grade in Helen's class, too, but I can honestly say that it wasn't because of her teaching. I'd recommend taking another instructor.
Helen is one of my favor teacher. She is very helpful and her explanations are very clear. I learned a lot from her class. If you pay attention in class and do homework, you will get high grade. Some students rated her as moody, but if you do the work and try to learn she will be so nice to you. I highly recommend her.
She's not terrible as many students think. She's actually a good teacher and nice if students ask questions and show interest in learning. Unlike most instructors, Helen actually explains why the material is important for certain majors. Show up to class, be proactive, always ask questionsfeedback on group project and you'll pass with a high grad
Helen's not much of a teacher, but this class is SUPER easy, so it's okay that she's not much help. I still recommend taking this class. It's a quick and easy A for your transcript.
I have always hated math and barely gotten by in school. Helen is the 2nd instructor I have came across that explains it in a way I get it. She is more than fair if you put in the work. I went from hating math to actually enjoying doing statistics, something I never saw happening. I would only take her from here out (if I had any more math needed).
The class is really easy. Do the online homework, and you'll be fine. Teacher is mostly redundant.
Her teaching style is straightforward and organized. She's an amazing teacher and is obviously very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the material. The textbook is handy, but not necessarily needed, everything needed for tests is in her lectures and group work assignments. One of the best teachers I've ever had, wish every teacher was like her.
the best teacher i had in a while. she know what she doing. class maybe hard but she know how to lecture so you can understand what you are doing. i would definitely would recommend you taking this class.
I thought stats would be difficult and it probably would be if I took this class online/ had a horrible professor. Helen is organized and provides constructive feedback to students. She made me feel like I was not wasting my time in that class and did her best to relate the subject to each major her students are pursuing. Excellent professor!
Helen is an excellent professor at Statistics. She explains all of the stuffs in the easiest way to understand. She gave so many examples related to the lessons. She always applied the lessons to real life, this makes me love her. I found that Statistics is really interesting because of her. Now, I LOVE STATS!!!
Helen is a rockstar. Highly recommended by other students and I can see why. If you're a good student and work hard, it's amazing. If you don't care and are lazy, it'll be a rough road. She makes it interesting and fun. I appreciate her honest, direct, no-nonsense vibe. She doesn't just teach math, she also teaches important interpersonal skills.
Definitely, recommending to take her class. You do have to come to class every day since she has group work, concept questions, quizzes, etc. which is beneficial for your grade. You do not really have to read the book, just come to lectures she will explain WELL. She is always right just remember that lol, but I loved her teaching despite that
Helen makes this class SO SIMPLE. Helen has a great way of explaining things. Exams are just a compilation of quizzes so review what you didn't know on the quizzes and you will get 100%. Overall just look over your notes before quizzes. She does have a quick temper and gets angry when the class isn't doing well. stay on her good side!!! Good luck!
She sometimes can be rude but don't worry much about that. She is straight-forward, but she knows what she's doing. Her lectures are amazing, she is creative therefore her lecture is so effective, and helps you involve to what is going on in class. She is knowledgeable; if you are hard-working and get good grades, you will be her favorite.
I took Helen for winter quarter and absolutely loved her , if you are a sensitive person then she may not be the teacher for you but then again it's nothing personal . Helen cares for all her students and loves teaching and makes class fun! Come to her office hours for help, but she makes thing easy to understand during class time . Overall great !
Helen is a great teacher and can really help people with math phobia. She's "not here to stroke your ego" and will tell you this directly. She's engaged, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable. Her classes are always full because people know she's excellent. Do yourself a favor, take her classes if you need math. You're going to have to work for it!
She is a nice teacher ever. Respectful and intelligence.
Show up to class on time, do your homework and you'll do well in her class. If you don't understand something speak up early on, as the topics build off of each other. It's been really cool to see the culmination of everything you learn in her class come together in the final project too.
Dr. Burn really likes to teach. You can tell by how much she cares and puts effort into it. She uses class time very well and goes straight to the point with her assignments. She is very helpful with math problems and even more helpful during her office hours.
Dr. Burn she is really good professor she cares about her students and she also care about the material she is teaching you. she gives you courage, a lots to think about during in her class. Her class is not basically hard but all you need is to stay on top. She so fast when she is explaining the material, because of the time, but she record.
Shes a good professor, she takes her time and goes at a decent pace. She makes sure each student gets the material before moving on to another topic. I enjoyed coming to class because the environment is super chill and diverse.
Helen Burns is a great professor that teaches math in all levels. She really cares about students, and wants students to succeed. The class itself is a really easy A. You just need to show up to class and put in the work and effort. The one thing that I like about having Helen is that she applies the course material to the real world.
MATHP 146. Originally an in-person class but because of COVID-19, it was switched to a VIRTUAL class. I didn't know what to expect from a virtual class. I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED. She is very knowledgeable in what she teaches and straight forward in communication. She is extremely helpful and culturally aware. You WILL learn in a good interactive way!
Professor Burn is a great quality instructor. She has decoded the formula to teach the class in order for a student to succeed. She's very experienced in her work that she dedicates her time for her students if they struggle. Also, she's very relatable and approachable.
Dr. Burn is truly an outstanding Professor. Math146 is a challenging class but she got your back! She provides great quality lecture to make sure you understand the concept. She gives all the resources you need not just to meet your goal but also to succeed in class. I enjoy doing the taskcards because it is something relatable to your daily lives.
Loved taking stats with her. During the online course, she is very helpful and makes stats easy to learn. The group projects are just as easy and she's always available to teach one on one in case you need extra help. Overall super caring professor!
Statistics can be daunting. I was so scared of it because I had heard so many people fail. I was so surprised that I passed the class with an A and understood the content, all because of her!! Take this class! I enjoyed myself and it was really a confidence booster knowing I can get an A in a Stats class! Best prof I've ever had.
would definitely take MATHP 111 again, she was very helpful and was very encouraging during this course. the extra support is there, and she knows how to explain math in a way you will understand, and she is very patient.
She is an amazing instructor! She is kind, caring, and very understanding. Her way of teaching makes it really easy to understand the subjects we go over. I 100% recommend taking her Math 111 class. ((:
Helen is so kind and has a level of respect and positive regard for all of her students that is unmatched. She is an amazing lecturer, going the perfect speed so that everyone in the class learns, she cares about learning, and will adapt to your style so that you leave the class with knowledge instead of just a grade. She is genuine and empathetic.
Learning from the best.
Gives good feedback and videos that help class work.
If you have problem with Statistics take this class and you will not regret because professor Helen is very good professor who is willing to see student passing. I took this class Spring 2022 and still I will take Math 111 with her.
I was really scared to take this class because I'm really bad at math but Helen made it not that scary. We had quizzes every week but she made sure everyone knew the topic well, and according to her, the whole class got really good grades. She records her lectures and allows people join on zoom if they're not able to attend class.
Professor Burn is wonderful! I was so nervous to take a math class but I actually enjoyed it. She has lots of different times for office hours and She does communicate a lot + replies to her emails very often. She would email us what our exams/quizzes where going to be about ahead of time which was very helpful in preparing myself.
I took professor Helen's college algebra class I would 100% recommend taking her class. Great lectures and a reasonable amount of work. You have weekly homework, quizzes and task cards (basically worksheets). Seems like a lot but it really isn't if you stay on top of your stuff. For sure planing on taking her stats class later on as well!
She was an awesome professor. She gave extra help when you needed it.
Professor Burn is unlike any professors I've met at Highline. She makes sure that you understand everything being taught and willingly works with you outside of class or give extensions if asked on time. She loves what she does so that tells you how her attitude will be everyday in class. Take this course with her if needed. You wont regret i!
BEST INSTRUCTOR EVER! Seriously, the most knowledgeable & caring professor i've had so far! She made statistics fun! She is amazing at what she does & all of her lectures were very engaging. She offers so much support to those who need it & is very understanding. If you need stats, take with Dr. Burn!
Love Dr. Burn as a teacher, she's really on your side and wants you to succeed. She is great at explaining things and you can retake quizzes. Do not take the Math146 class that is combined with Engl102. You'll regret it and the project topics are not good.
Helen was an amazing professor! Very manageable amount of work and a fair grader. There are many opportunities for extra credit and she is always open to answering questions. Would highly recommend!!
Take her!! Straightforward tells you what will be on the weekly quizzes and lets you use notes, final exam is a group project but gives accommodation if needed. She also has a lot of extra support resources that were really helpful like recorded class lectures.
Prof. Burn is fantastic - she genuinely wants you to succeed. The class is manageable with her clear explanations, flexibility, and resources. Unstuck ai was a lifesaver for test prep alongside the textbook. Would definitely take this course with her again.
Dr. Burn can be pretty tough to deal with. She has a way of making students feel dumb when asking questions. She deducts points for even the smallest mistakes. She also comes across as passive-aggressive and doesn't appreciate it when students talk while she's speaking. If you take her class, just be mindful of how you communicate with her.
Dr. Helen is a fantastic professor; her lectures are easy to understand, and if not, she is very reachable outside of class, and she's a great help in her office hours, always willing to help. She's very kind and caring.
Dr. Helen Burn is a phenomenal instructor who exhibits a ton of patience for students in need of that little bit of extra help. Their lectures are easy going but well prepared, and can anticipate students questions consistently. If you are choosing between instructors or intimidated by the course topic, you are in great hands with Helen Burn.
I took Professor Burn for CSCI 180—she's incredibly supportive and truly cares about your success. The class is flexible, and you'll learn a lot about data, algorithms, and basics of AI. She sets clear grading expectations and offers chances to recover points. If you're willing to work, it's easy to get the grade you want. Great CS foundation!
She is very nice and always ready to help and I often visited her during her office hours. We had a lot of homework and 4 projects, and she was accepting late assignments, which is very important to me.
I took Professor Burn for CSCI180 in Fall Quarter 2025, and it was a wonderful experience. She was an excellent professor, with clear requirements and straight-forward criteria for the course. I learned a lot, and really enjoyed the setting of the class. Given the chance, I would definitely take another course with her as professor.
