Wonderful teacher! Lots of writing and blackboard work but in the end worth it! She really tries to bring the writing out of you. Well worth the time to take her class. She is very understand and a load of fun! She is very passionate in her work! Take her i promise you won't regret it!
L0VE HERRRRRRRR!!!!!! really great. very nice and easy to talk to. extremely helpful with papers as long as you do all of the assignments you will get an A
She's a nice and kind professor, but only take this class if you don't have a life outside of school. She requires you to read 3 long books (she's added a 4th book), that requires some serious thinking about what you read because the books are confusing, and answer questions about what you read (10 questions with about 4-5 questions in each).
Great Teacher! The course was not easy but interesting and useful.I like her style of teaching.
If you're looking to be a English major, then this might be the class for you. If you loved reading 4 long, confusing books then this might be the class for you. If you are looking into how to write essays and how to use MLA format, then this class definitely not for you.
This professor will take up your time, but you WILL learn as long as you have an open mind. Also, unless all of your other classes are electives, don't have her more than once a semester. She is really good and easy going, but honest and fair. Time management is key. You don't have that, you won't get far.
Dr. Doss is an awesome teacher! She's very chill and laid back. i got an A in her class. It's very easy. All you have to do is pretty much show up and do the hw. Poetry is also my love :)
WHERE DO I START! SHES JUST PLAIN AWESOME. i had her last semester and she was so cool the only thing that i didn't like was the we needed to get like 6 books for this class and we only used about 2 or 3, so that was a waste, but shes very helpful and is wi to help whenever, you can even email her and she gets back to you quick. TAKE HER!
She is FANTASTIC and her topics are modern and pretty cool... Enjoyed her class and she is funny. I learned so much in her class and projects TAKE HER =)2012
Dr. Doss is great. She is organized, fair and funny. We read some crazy stuff, but it was cool. She cares about you and tries to help a lot. Take her and you won't regret it.
i took this teacher for poetry and English 102 she had set me on the right track, extremely helpful and has a unique way of teaching. if a person puts much effort they will get an A
I took this professor for English 102 online fall 2012. She was very clear in what she expected of the students. Since it was an online class a lot of discussions were held on blackboard about the coursework. I really enjoyed her class and would take another online course with her in the future.
Professor Doss is an awesome instructor; one of the best teaching 102 at wright. She posts feedback often. You never have to wonder about your grade. She was always approachable, fast to response to my questions and fair. I took her online class and her face-to-face lit class both were interesting, as long as you do the work.
Hated this class. Unless you are really committed to English and is willing to read a big confusing book to do your work. Go ahead take the class. As it was online class we had to do everything from textbook and I did not expect her to write a whole lot explaining but she could have at least explained the contents of each chapter briefly.
AWESOME TEACHER!! She uses bb a lot and she is crystal clear about requirements. Her assignments were really interesting, some of them needed more time than usual, but it wasn't hard. She gives enough time for everything, so if you are organized you won't have any problems!Take her if you really wanna learn and prepare for future classes!
I took professor Doss for LIT 121 and ENG 102! I would definately take her again! Great professor but you have to make sure you do all the work. Definately many points to gain but make sure you do them all! I recommend her one of my best teachers ever
Easy professor as long as you do the work. She grades fairly quickly, but doesn't give much feedback. Follow her directions and you'll get a good grade. She responds to you questions in a timely manner. Her writing topics were interesting. Really friendly, easy teacher, but still learned a lot. I took her class online and would recommend her.
Awesome Teacher! She made every assignment interesting. She is always available for questions and gives many workshops. She is very clear and great with explanations of assignments. I would definitely recommend her.
She gives a lot of homework but doesn't really look at grammar mistakes. Just do the assignments. You'll be using Blackboard often. She recommends asking questions in class, if you don't, she won't give you the answer. You'll be writing essays for homework. She has teaching assistants. Overall, she's really nice. You'll learn so much.
Dr. Doss was an awesome teacher. She was clear and precise on what she expected from the student and the work required. She gave a plethora of examples and blackboard was inundated with Power Points and material to prepare the students for the assignments. I absolutely enjoyed her class.
Dr. Doss is clear and prices on what she expect of student. Black board is your friend in her class. She provides a lot of workshop to help student understand what is required. I will certainly advice you to take her class, because you will learn a lot.
Taking this class with Dr. Doss was easy. Assignments are easy (and not many), however, you shall keep up with the work. She sort of gives a lot but it is easy. Take her class! you will learn something useful.
I took 102 with her in the summer, and i will tell you she is an amazing professor. It was a lot of hard work and definitely challenging but with Dr Doss it worth it. If you are willing to work for that A then it shouldn't be a problem with you getting it.
Not what I thought the typical Eng 102 class would be like. We had far fewer papers to write than I anticipated, which was a great thing. We only read one book. It was quite a slim book at that. I ended up reading it before the class ever started. The class was pretty easy. Do the work and turn it in on-time, as no late assignments are accepted.
Dr. Doss wants to challenge us as college students, but her class is a bit overwhelming, especially if you work or have children. She goes into the depth of each poem, which I love as a writer, but has assignments due way too close together. She expects a lot and show little sympathy, or have attitude, towards honest opinions about her hw & quizes
she gives way too many assignments too close to each other. if you dont go to class then you wont pass. she also made us buy 3 books but we only ended up using 1! she also gets an attitude at times and her grading is confusing at times too. and she uses blackboard a LOT! shes obsessed with it.
She always expects things done on her time. At the beginning of the semester she told us we would have online discussions on certain days and certain times but as time went on she changed the date and times of almost all of them to fit her own schedule. She also doesnt respond to emails for help on certain days or times even when its for homework.
Challenging but you learn a lot about poetry. All exams are take-home. There are 2-3 quizzes. Only tests on the stuff covered in class. Dr. Doss expects you to work hard & doesn't accept excuses, but she doesn't give any either. Grades quickly. All on Blackboard. Miss class, miss tons of content. She is funny & kind. Take if you want to learn a lot
Great class. Lots of work. Has high standards, but my writing and critical thinking is better. Let's us turn in work on weekends for extra time and changes due dates if we are moving slower. Lots of extra credit. Be prepared to work. It's hybrid class. Uses blackboard for online part, get comfortable with it. Responds quickly to email.
I was turning in work late and wrong. I was having so much trouble between my job & family & other classes. I went to see her & she helped me make a plan to get my work done. She encouraged me to stay in the class. It's a lot of work but she explains it all and has online chat times to review it. Those are helpful. Take her you won't regret it.
amazing class. she knows a ton about women's lit. we read works that i haven't read before. she changed the way i look at how women are treated in society. we spend a lot of time on vocab. she gives us words to explain what we read. assignments are tough but there's plenty of time to do them. she allows u to work with other students. love the class
This is an English class but she just gives her students assignment after assignment without doing first drafts or without even going over our last assignment and trying to perfect it! To add on, she loves to post on Blackboard. She posts on it almost every day and sometimes it is too much and becomes overwhelming.
It's a hybrid class. All her 102s are hybrids. You need to be pretty good with tech and Blackboard. Instructions are clear, make sense. You can work ahead if you want. Because it's online there's a lot you have to do on your own, but she's there to answer questions. You can pick your own research topics. She answers email quickly but not on Sundays
Great class. We spend a lot of time interpreting poems. Some of the students are lame and complain. But it's a fun class. You will learn a lot. Interesting assignments. Not much homework. There are two quizzes and take home tests. Take notes because she tests from notes and lectures. Only one paper. Extra credit. I like poetry more now. Quick email
She let me pick a topic I was really interested in. I have taken this class three times before with other teachers at wright. She is the only one who let me pick a topic I wanted not something crazy. You will work hard but you will learn. Best teacher ever.
Learned a ton. Read a ton. Discussed a ton. We went to a gallery. It was cool. She's cool. She let us pick the books we wanted to read at the end. The class was cool.
Great class. Great teacher. The poems were boss. Lots of in class work so can't miss class all the often but it's interesting.
i had never read frankenstein the way we read it in class together. it became one of my favorites. corregidora was the best novel for me. all quizzes are online, but some work has to go into them. love her. love the class. btw, i am a guy. she's not judgemental on men either.
I have had her for two other classes. She's excellent. There wasn't as much outside reading. Mostly in-class. There is homework, but it's mostly interesting and lets you bring your own ideas into the work. She always says you can't be wrong in poetry unless youcan't prove it with the lines. This helped mu anxiety about poetry reading in class.
great teacher and class. the assignments are easy, but there a good number of them. she gives you through the weekend to do them. it's a one day a week class, the other part is online. she posts grades quickly and give feedback on problems in papers. quizzes are easy and online i. wish i'd take her the first time i tried english 102 at wright.
assignments galore! just because this class is a hybrid class she feels its ok to give her students quadruple the assignments and you basically have to beg for her help since she rarely ever checks her email!!
everything is really clear cut. she gives lots of time to complete assignments and will explain anything you need. i literally sent her an email & in minutes she answered it. took her online & at campus. u actually have to do the work. some people think online should be easy, but it's not. she makes it easier by explaining it all.
Excellent class. Pretty easy, if you keep on top of it. Not too many assignments. She took time to answer my questions by email. You can choose ur own topic, which is good. The assignments build up to the final paper. She doesn't take late work, but there's plenty of time. There's an ebb and flow to stuff she assigns. Would take her again.
I like to write but I'm no good at it or at least I didn't use to be. I had real low self confidence in my writing ability. I took this class two times before but someone recommended dr. Doss. I took he, didn't look back. The work helped me understand why I had problems before. Plus she's fair and doesn't play favorites. She encouraged me a lot.
Doss is the most brilliant woman I've met at Wright. She is very knowledgeable in poetry and she makes you think very deeply about everything. I'm going to take her for women's lit too! There were discussion board assignments due every week, responses to lectures too. Assignments were preeetty lengthyy but she'll help you if you need it! just ask!!
Prof. Doss is a great professor who truly wants to see her students succeed. She is very helpful when it comes to writing the big research paper. Plus she allows you to pick your own topic. My class was a hybrid (online & in-class) so if you take the hybrid class, be sure to stay on top of all your assignments!
Dr. Doss was a good teacher overall. You will learn a lot on MLA (how to properly cite, in-text citations and so on), but she also throws in a variety of other assignments which differ from most English 102 classes. She has a unique teaching style. The main thing to succeeding in this class is time management. You need that in order to fully pass.
She's awesome - I learned a lot from her class. I really recommend her. but, yeah. You need to show up to class and you HAVE to manage your time well. But, she will help you.
I learned a lot from Dr. Doss. She used different kinds of assignments to make us think and write about stuff we liked and cared about. I would take her again. And, she answers emails quickly not like the last person I took 102 with. I shoulad have taken her first.
She really opened my mind to different issue for women and gave me to words to describe my own experience. It was the best class I ever took in literature. We read so many things and talked about them. There were quizzes but they were online. The exams are take home. They arent easy but she gives you time and will answer your question. Love her.
A lot of reading for the class women's lit. She really wants everyone to do well and if you show promise she'll help if you ask. There are group projects, long presentations, essay like homework, you have to attend everyday. If you don't need the class avoid it but I did learn and immerse myself in the course. A lot of blackboard/email use.
I love this class. You learn so much and she's right there with you the whole time. I've take classes before where it starts with 30 students and end with 5. She kept all her students. She expects a lot from you and pushes you to be your best. It was totally the best and most real college class I took whole time at wright
Love her clas. Can choose your own topic. Has cool assignments. Actually answers email and questions. I took someone else before. It was lame and hard and the teacher couldn't have cared less. Dr Doss is the opposite of that. She really cares about us and makes you want to work hard. She also writes great letters of rec if you are doing well
Took her hybrid version of this class. We read books I wouldn't have read before. There are a lot of new concepts but they are connected to real life so that really helps. You work in groups or individually because it's hybrid. I love her. Learned so much about everything. And I feel prepared to transfer to UIC in the fall. She helped me think.
Good class. Best at wright by far. You have to work, but she gives assignments that build up to the bigger assignments. She sits with you to give feedback and all of the assignments had examples so I could understand what she was looking for. She's tough on attendance but we only meet once a week so it's ok. You won't regret it.
I took her online because I'm at a university. Everything was clear cut. She responds to email and gives really good feedback. My writing improved a lot. I had her for a Lit class before. She's a great teacher and cares about you. I recommend everyone I know at wright to take her.
Great class period. Great teacher. Interesting. Worth the effort.
It was one of the best classes I have ever taken. I learned so much. She gave tons of feedback and instructions. She stayed with me after each class and helped me understand that I didn't quite get. She was so understand and supportive. I learned a lot about women's lit. She's awesome!
been meaning to do this for a minute. took her for african american lit. it was good. we read a couple books/ short stories and comic book too. she's cool and helpful. u can't come to wright and not take her. you won't regret taking her. she makes you work hard, but then you learn. kinda makes u wonder about what you're learning in other classes.
It was a very good class. Mostly short stories then we got to pick a novel. All the tests and quizzes were online and out of class. I liked the short stories and how she helped us see more in it. I don't like to read but her class helped me get better at understanding what I read. I would take her again.
About to complete this class. Tons of work, but lots of time to do it. She's so passionate about everything we read and talk about but not in a way that makes it feel like you have to agree with her. She always says that she's figuring out how she feels about things which is cool because it means you don't have to have a definite opinion. Luv her.
registered for her class at the last minute. only thing left. best decision of the semester. had to drop other classes because of work schedule. i learned a lot about women literature and feminism, what it really is and not the angry message in the media. i really understand the importance of women's struggle for rights now. i'm a guy too! take her
They need more like at Wright. Great class on women's literature. Great Teacher. Worth the effort. So helpful. Taking her for English next semester.
I took her online class, she is very clear with what she is looking for and pay attention to the syllabus deadlines. She does not stray from that. Get comfortable with blackboard assignments tabs. She emails us every week to remind us to stay on task.
I took this course online & it was very easy. There's one assignment per week, but they are short. One research paper @ the end. Her assignments are explained easily, she's an easy grader & gives good feedback. As long as you do all assignments (ON TIME), this course is easy to get an A. She also gives extra credit. No late work accepted.
Dr. Doss is an excellent professor . You will definitely learn a lot in her class. She is prompt with her feedback and grading and covers all of the essentials. When I began taking her class , I did not know how to write a college paper and now I can . I highly recommend Dr. Doss !
here's the deal. she makes you work. but you learn alot. i'm taking her class, now. there are a few assignments, but you have to put some effort in to get anything out. you can choose your own topic. don't be absent, you miss alot. overall, loving it, but it's alot of work.
loved her and the class. taking another one now from her. you have to read and think. the books are interesting and so are the lectures. she spent time explaining things to us that we didn't know. i liked that we talked about the topics and could have our own opinions. excellent class. best prof at wright. take her.
This is the second time I took this class. I should have taken her before but the class was closed. She lays everything out and answers questions. She jokes and class fun but she is serious about the work. You have a lot of chances to past but you better take advantage. I learned a lot.
Expected this class to be easy because it was online. It was a lot of work but I appreciate that she took the time to provide a lot feedback to me on my work. I can see now that I was making a lot of mistakes but none of my other teachers corrected them. Every time I email her she respond right away. My other online class didn't do that.
I loved this class. I took it with her a couple years ago. We read so many different poems and talked about them in class. The quizzes were tough but she told us what to study and gave chances to do better. Take her you won't regret it. I didn't. My sister is in her class now. She expects hard work but you learn if you want to learn.
We read EVERYTHING. She is one of the best professor at Wright. She taught us about life not just books. I can honestly say that I didn't know what to expect out of a literature class. But she put it all out there and together. We read and listened to music. Best class I have ever taken. It was a lot of work though.
Be prepared
she is a tough teacher but fair and kind. i learned so much from her and my class about culture. we had to work for it. but she helped along the way. extra credit. i learned to manage my time better and what to expect in a real college class. one of the best teachers i have had at wright.
She uses Blackboard for readings and homework. She gives class time to discuss the stuff we read and no one's opinion was wrong. I have never taken a college literature class before. I am glad this was my first. Her expectations are high, but she helps you get there. I felt like she cared a lot about me and wanted me to be successful. Best class.
Very clear. If you actually want to learn how to writer better for college and if you plan to transfer to a university, she is the best. I took an easy 101 teacher and strange 102 teacher before who watched movies. I learned how to write research paper & annotated bibliography and other things. she met w/me to work on my writing.
I had her a couple years ago. She changed my life and the direction I wanted to go by being so kind to me and listening to what I wanted to do. Her class was the first class I had at Wright that was actually college level, but with someone who cared enough to make sure I made it. I was going through a lot and she helped me a lot. Best teacher ever.
Dr. Doss is an awesome professor. She always responds to questions and provides constructive feedback. Unfortunately, I couldn't keep up with the workload of this online class along with 3 other classes and work, so I had to drop. I would take her again. You will be a better writer after taking her class!
This is a hard class no matter who you take. But Dr. Doss made it better. She answered all of my questions and I asked a lot of them. She helped me get through a class I would have dropped. I'm a good writer but didn't know how to research write. It was intense, but I learned.
Spring 2017: Depends on computer work too much. Books that you have purchased are more like for help and resource. If you don't like to be in a computer lab and have to be on a computer al the time do NOT take. If you rather do work through paper and pencil and have worksheets and guides and class discussions, do NOT take her class.
I am taking her this semester. I have tried this class two times before. This is the first time that I feel like I will have a chance to pass. I like the readings and that I didn't have to buy the books at first because my financial aid is delayed. She explains the assignments really clearly and has examples we can look at for help.
great teacher. one of the best at wright. can't believe someone complained about using the c computer and wanting worksheets. this is college not high school. she take a lot of time to help us understanding concepts and the right way to wright. if you want to learn to write like a college writer then take dr. doss. if u don't then take someone els
Assignments due every week. Be prepared to have no life! Interesting topics! Lots of extra credit!
Great class. Have tried this class once before. Didn't make it. Dr. Doss gives a lot of work but she helps you complete the work. She is the only teacher that ever sat down with me and helped me with my writing. There are easier teachers bur there aren't any better ones than her. Best teacher at Wright for 102 by far.
Spring 2017: I am taking a lot of classes. She gives a lot of work but it is worth it. My papers are so much better. Sometimes people thinking community college is easy because its not a big school, but Professor Doss makes sure that if you take her you earn your grade. We work a lot but we also learn a lot. And there r not assignments every week
SHE IS THE BEST. I WISH SHE TAUGHT ALL MY ENGLISH CLASSES SO THAT I COULD TAKE HER. FOR SURE SHE IS THE BEST TEACHER FOR ME. TAKE HER YOU WONT REGRET IT.
One of the best classes that I have had at Wright. It is my last year and I needed a humanities and this one was open. Glad I took a chance on it. We spend most of the time working together and talking about the poems. She won't say ur wrong but she will make you prove your meaning of the poem. It is fun. Wish I took her sooner. And she is nice.
No way to take, just for small mistakes, makes you done
Great professor. She helped me a lot. Lots of time to do assignments. She is firm on the requirements, but will work with you if you need help.
This professor is awesome. If you have hard time with writing definitely go with her, she will teach you how to write and will give good advice. She makes the class interesting with topics and really helps. The readings in the class are explained by her, but if you do not understand something just talk to her. she will help you with smile.
Amazing class, even though it is at night. I am learning more than I expected at a community college. She explains everything. Expects alot but is really supportive. Interesting readings and discussion. Her personality makes doing hard work easier. Take home midterm and final, big plus.
I've meant to leave this note for awhile. When I took her class I was ready to quit school and just work. I got a bad grade on a paper. I didn't work on it really hard, but I work 2 jobs. I told Dr. Doss how I felt. And, she said, "It happens to everyone. I believe in you. You can do this." No one said that b4. I finished with an "A". Best ever.
I won't suggest taking this class If you aren't professional in English. I thought that I study for Master of English.
Mostly discussion board. 2 papers. No tests. Responds to email same day. Very helpful.
Have her for 101. Taking her for 102. Enough said. Love her.
Her class wasn't the easiest but it was worth it! loved her and her class. took her for English 101 and will be taking her for English 102.
I learn so much. I work really hard. There are obviously easier teachers, but you won't learn as much. She's also understanding, if she sees that you are really trying to work hard and improve. You can also pick your own topics. But you have to come to class. She is great.
THIS TEACHER IS CHALLENGING BE READY TO RESEARCH A LOT ALOT. SHE GRADES YOU FOR ATTENDANCE SO YOU HAVE TO SHOW UP TO EVERY CLASS.
Her took a lot of work. But, she was clear and had individual meeting with us about our work. Got to pick my own research topic. We wrote about films. Overall, it was tough, but I learned a lot.
I didn't start this class loving or knowing about poetry. This class made me work for it, but it was a 12 wk class. We read poems in class. There was homework. There is one takehome test and some in-class quizzes. She helped my reading comprehension a lot, like more than my English 101 class did last semester. Worth it, but be ready to work
Definitely have to work in the class to get a good grade. If you are looking to actually learn how to become a better writer she is the choice. Gives an assignment every week which can be tiring but she does help you become a better writer. Not many tests are given mostly papers.
Recommended if you take your education seriously and want to work hard for a good grade. Weekly papers that require time and effort. She gives great feedback and really shows that she's an expert in her field. Attendance is mandatory, sometimes there are quizzes based on the readings. Textbook is really helpful by her. Extra credit opportunities.
We use her book, but the money goes to charity. It is on reserve in the library. She tells you to not buy it, if you can't afford it. We write two papers about 5 to 6 pages. We could pick our topics. Some people did not like to read but thats her main focus. So, if you do not want to read, take someone else. She was great and I learned to write.
I learned so much about the Harlem Renaissance. We went on field trips during class time and there were only online open book quizzes. Shes so knowledgeable and kind.
I wasnt sure about this class. But glad I took it. We regular regular poetry like Shakespeare, but we also studied haiku and spoken word. We got to write poetry and there were only a few quizzes online and a take home final. She spent a lot of time on how to interpret poetry so you could understand it and see other peoples ideas better.
She gives too many assignments at once every week like we don't have a personal or social life.
This was a good class. I failed this class the first time I took it because I missed work. I retook it and passed. Im not really into poetry but she made it enjoyable. She knows a lot. Its definitely a college class. You get out what you put in.
I took this class online during the 12 week semester. It took a minute to get used to it but the readings were interesting and the assignments were pretty basic. Online quizzes and midterm. Picked my own book for final project. Super fast response time for email and thats a big deal for an online class.
One of the best classes I took at Wright. I learned about intersectionality and black writers and I had never really studied any of that. She was really helpful and made learning about it easy to connect with the readings. We read and discussed in class and that was the grade. She wrote me a great letter of rec too. Really helpful.
She is a tough grader, but she gives helpful feedback. We read a lot and watched films and series. There was one documentary about poor kids that was great. Our papers we pick the focus and research based on that. She met with us 2-3 times. All the assignments build to the final paper. Would definitely take her if youre planning to transfer.
I took this class in SP20. We read and talked about so many poets that I had not heard about. There were no quizzes as long as we participated in class. Only two papers and a take-home final. She was really available and offered help. We got a chance to rewrite Dante. One of the best experiences. She is the best. She is kind.
This was one of the hardest classes I have taken. I took it during Covid 19 and it was suggested for my group and I to go take pictures of certain things from my car. She was OVERLY hard which I get and I don't get. This is one of those classes I will never recommend to anyone EVER.
Taking it now. Picked my own topic. She gave audio feedback. Always responded to my emails. Spends a lot of time helping you read better so you can write better. Extra credit. Two major assignments and class work. Would take again.
This is my second time taking English 102. Its a writing class. So, there are papers. She gives tons of time, examples, and explains everything. Some want things to be super easy. Who doesn't. But, she cares and gives lots of extra credit, revisions, accepts late assignments. The one who said she responds to email is right. W/in minutes. Luv her.
We wrote haiku. Learned so much from her and the class about poetry. It was communal. One my best experiences at Wright. Spoken Word, Shakespeare, Dante. She BROKE DOWN meter so that I understood it. She's not the easiest, but she totally cares about her students. Plus she made exceptions with Covid. Didn't pile on the work. Learned alot.
This is a film&lit class. We read and watched Brokeback Mountain, I am Legend, Watchmen, and some others. journals & discussion work. two weeks to do everything. really interesting. best class discussions for online class. Dr. Doss answered all my questions and found online sources to help me. Best online class so far. Taking her for 102 for sure.
Took this class online for transfer and wasn't expecting much. Learned a bunch about writing and designing a research project. I am pre-nursing. So, I need to be ready for UIC I feel like this class has prepared me for it. I wish I took it sooner. Professor Doss was really helpful for me. She wrote a letter of rec for me and submitted it on time!
i had her her class a few years ago. it was a writing class. we wrote poetry, stories, plays. i only write poetry but she made writing the other types very interesting and fun. at the time, i wasnt really sure what i would do. now, i am applying to mfa programs in poetry. i thought of her because im using poetry from her class in my portfolio.
I learned more or enjoyed this class more than this others at Wright. With the COVID and going remote school has been hard, but Dr. Doss really takes her time to make sure we understand and are having good time. She makes you learn fun in the class. Some assignments, but they are doable. Extra credit help a lot. Glad to take this class with her.
I took this class during the pandemic. We read a lot together in class. Watched films. There were two major writing assignments. All the works built up to them. Extra credit and revisions. I had some issues during the semester. She was really helpful and nice about it all. Not easy, not hard. Just right for me. Would take her again.
This professor literally caused me to have several mental breakdowns. Shes very knit picky about EVERYTHING. I recommend taking this class by itself especially with her. She does not directly answer your questions. She says one thing and retracts on it confusing the student. This was awful and if you have anxiety AVOID this class.
Assignments are straightforward. Clear criteria, everything is on assignment sheet or a presentation. She meets with you to discuss projects. I found her easy to communicate. There were some students who wanted it to be easy. Its college and Im going to DePaul. So, I need a REAL college experience. If you want to learn take her.
This is my first semester at Wright. I was worried about how this would go because I herd it was hard. But, she made it simple. Two projects, reading, and some small group work. I also liked that she knows how to use Zoom. Not boring and she was nice. I see some people leaving negative feedback but if you pay attention, then it's fine honestly
It's movies and books. So, you cant go wrong. She gave us one assignment every two weeks. then we made our script from a move we liked. Even though it was online she checked in every week. We watch two movies together. I decided to change my major and focus on film studies based on this class. Really amazing experience!
I thought she was really hard. Reading writing and discussing. Dr Doss gave us audio feedback. I listened to it and improved my writing. I wasn't happy, but later after working on it I learned how much she taught me. Also, she responds to all email SUPER fast and make sure you understand what she wants. She gives written work and video details.
Professor Doss is the best professor I have ever had. She is compassionate and is respectful of everyone in the class. Just keep up with the work and you will get the grade you want.
Shes by fall the best Professor Ive had, shes so nice, respectful, caring, and reasonable. She has a clear syllabus of the course and constantly updates the class of what to expect for that week of class. The material is not hard, even if it is she provides so much help and feedback, gave opportunities for extra credit all the time.
Extremely tough grader. I struggled in her class, even when giving 110%. However, I learned a tremendous amount. I would recommend her for those who are serious about improving their writing. Also, READ THROUGH EVERY ANNOUNCEMENT CAREFULLY. They look the same and there's a lot of them, but she'll add in a random requirement that might slip by you.
I learned more in this class than any other writing class. Topics and reading were interesting. She spent a lot of time helping us adjust to learning remotely. Super kind. Kinda funny. Responds quickly to email. This is college. Get ready!
Coolest class I took all three years at Wright. Open book and notes quizzes. Good poetry. Learned a lot. Meter was hard but she took her time with it. We got to write poetry for some of it to. Extremely open to different perspectives. It felt real.
I liked that she was approachable and legitimately seemed to care about us and the topic during covid and BLM. You HAVE to read, but most are provided by her. I got the others books from the library. Relevant to whats happening today. Anyone can participate. Really smart and kind. Not a common combination sometimes in college.
Shes very sweet and very clear. Its easy to do her work as long as you listen and follow instructions. She also asked her students questions and works with her students. The class itself was fun and I enjoyed interacting with the students. She created a great educational dynamic for all students
She is one of my favorite professors! I got exposed to new content and she is a very sweet person. Just plan accordingly! Reading and journals can get a bit heavy. Because of her I almost switched my major to film.
This class ended up being all work with little to no teaching. Almost every class was graded group work through google docs, all on top of papers/discussion posts/a large final project/tons of reading. The movies aren't provided so know how to find them online. I was so excited to take this class, but it just ended up being a disappointment.
Great class. We watched films I hadn't seen before. We talked a lot about the films and the stories that they were based on. You can have your own opinion and she will support you for it. We read a lot, which was hard sometimes, but she made it work. Some people didn't read so she had to remove somethings. Loved this class, though.
I took this class two times and couldn't finish it. Took it again online with Dr. Doss and it was the best. No busy work. Clear assignments. The best feedback and help for every assignments. I feel ready to take 102, now.
Awesome class! I LOVE films and this class did not disappoint. We met one day each week so the classes were long but she made it so fun. We read out loud, watched scenes discussed them, talked in small groups, and talked in the big class. so it didn't seem long. it was one of the best classes i have ever taken.
It was a good class. At first no one was reading so no one would talk but as soon as she let us work in small groups it became easier to talk in the big group. There were a few discussion assignment and one final project. As long as you read and participate to class it is an easy and pretty fun class.
Dr. Doss was definitely tough on accuracy and cared about your improvement. Her feedback is clear and detailed, learn from her feedback and your grades will improve each time. A lot of writing but sources were interesting to read. Try your best and complete extra credit, guaranteed A.
Her expectations can be high but as long as you follow her sets of instructions, you shouldn't go wrong
The class was asynchronous. I never had to reach out to her. Provided EVERYTHING you needed. Clear dates of when assignments were due. Good at giving feedback. Learned A LOT about the world around me from the readings she assigned us. Thoroughly enjoyed this class. Loved the excerpt from her book, which was SO helpful in completing the assignments.
She is the best English teacher in Chicago! I learned A LOT in her class and her class is so enjoyable.
Professor Doss runs a challenging but rewarding class. Her feedback helps improve writing skills. unstuck study was a lifesaver for preparing assignments. The workload is manageable with diligent effort.
The teacher is organized but the assignments require a lot of time to be completed (which is fine somehow).Tough grader, the feedback she gives is a whole page copy paste and it does not address your mistakes specifically("At least give an example completed assignment so we can relate to"???).
Took her online class, and it was very frustrating. The professor is quite tough and the course demands a lot of time. It's definitely not for the faint of heart or those with busy schedules. Overall, it didn't meet my expectations. I am disappointed that the other reviews here were misleading.
I took this class and enjoyed it. All of the assignments were clear with instructions and examples. She was in the class and provided updates. She responded to all of my questions. The workload was much easier than the other English 102 I took before. She also offered extra points and flexible deadlines. I would take her class again.
I am taking this class right now. It is one of the best online classes I have taken. The assignments are clear cut. It is a lit class so you have to read but you mostly relate the readings to each other and everyday life. The midterm is takehome and open book, There are no quizzes. I had her for Comp102 last semester. No problems for me. Best prof.
Like someone else mentions. She provided everything I needed. I didn't need to contact her, but when I did because I had a death in the family she was kind and accommodating. There are instructions, examples, and feedback for everything. Dr. Doss also allowed redos and extensions. Best online class I have taken.
I learned a lot from this class with Professor Doss. At first the class was challenging but with her feedback it got easier. I have taken this class two times but didn't pass. With her help I was able to make it through. I'm not afraid of English classes anymore. I don't what some reviews are saying but every assignment had a video and example.
I took this class. I liked that she treated us like adults. She respects that we have lives. Dr Doss didn't waste our time with busy work. She returned assignments quickly with clear grade and feedback. She responded to email quickly. Her weekly announcements were clutch. I had no problems. As long as you do the work, you can get an A.
I hate it took me so long to write a review. I loved the poems and videos she assigned to get us thinking. I still think about what I learned about the waves of feminism and intersectionality. I had heard about those before in sociology but only understood them in this class with the assignments. One of the best classes
Encouraging. I struggled even though the class was organized. I just didn't manage my time. I talked with her and she was honest with me about my chances. Then she gave me a plan to improve. I followed her plan and I am passing. I have learned so much more than expected. She is best. I wish I took her for English 101.
I took this class in summer. It was one of the best classes I have taken at Wright. It was 8 wks so it was fast but the work was manageable with my work schedule. She had assignments where we could ask her questions about what we read to make it like F2F class. It was great. I'm going to take her Lit & Film in the fall before I transfer to UIC.
Dr. Doss style is the best for online classes. Everything is organized by week and unit. She does weekly messages and updates in Brightspace. Readings and videos all have links. Due dates, expectations, and grades are clear and manageable. Responds quickly (and friendly) to email. It was the best experience I have had in an online class in the CCC.
This was one of my favorites because we read and watched videos. We also analyzed a script. We could have our opinion and someone else wrote, Dr. Doss gave us opportunities to ask questions in our assignments and she answered them. If she didn't answer them, she asked followup questions for extra credit. She was so organized. I learned so much.
Super clear and honest grader. Professor Doss grades on the things she says she will. No surprises. Class is organized. All assignments lead to final project. No busy work. I picked my own topic. She helped me when I got stuck with my research. AND, she has live office hour every week, not all online classes do this. Taking her Lit classes next.
I enjoyed this class. We read many things, but they were manageable. The midterm is take-home w/ 2 weeks to submit it. I picked a book I loved my final paper. Great feedback all along. We had two days after the semester ended to turn in our final assignment. I was about to make a big mistake and she emailed me with enough time to fix it. Love her.
Her class was well structured, and every assignment was extremely helpful for the next. She also gives you clear grading criteria. At first, I was put off by some people saying her class was hard, but she is very, very reasonable. Deadlines have no-penalty grace periods, and although assignments are long, follow directions, and you'll be fine.
This class is NOT for those with heavy challenges in English 101. 1. She presents an 11 PAGE Syllabus that explains more ways to fail than succeed. 2. The course is not welcoming to students still learning formatting and Discussion threads. 3. No exceptions to late assignments, and no room to fall behind. 4. 4-8 hours per assignment is just wrong.
Taking her class right now. Straightforward assignments. Has grace periods, accepts two late assignments through a special link, and has a ton of extra credit. Taking 16 wk class in 8wks can be tough but she extends deadlines to help us out. She has live office hours on Zoom and will help you. Responds to email quickly. Best experience so far.
She is very kind and overall a good teacher. I took the online class for LIT 155 and it was a decent amount of work but for most of it there was enough time. PREPARE FOR THE FINAL PROJECT. Make sure to pace yourself. She gives a guideline for how much time you should spend but definitely give yourself extra time for the final.
