She tries.
She cant speak english correctly!! Her labs suck even more.
Having completed the class and myself being an engineer major i find the complaints toward her to be ridiculous I found her to be very helpful and determined in helping those students who for some reason do not grasp what is chemistry
Her accent may be very thick when she lectures, but she is a very helpful teacher. Her grading is very fair. She's always willing to help when someone needs it.
The previous complaints about Professor Maughan are wrong. The course is hard if you don't study, which is true for any course. Professor Maughan is ALWAYS available during her office hours and is very helpful. Her accent is hard, but u get used to it.
She needs to take an english class before teaching. She gives thousands of worksheets and you'll be lucky to get anything correct. Her labs are retarded and she can't explain anything right. The hardest chem class I ever took!
Professor Maughan, is such an easy teacher, as long as you get over her accent, you would find her really helpful not only academically, but also mentally/physically. She would make chemistry a fun subject like Micky does. But too bad don't teach 185.
Although her lectures are bad because of her VERY thick accent, she is very helpful if you go to her office hours. She helps you thoroughly, 1 on 1, even if there's a group of students. She's a very helpful teacher, so take her!
Maughan is very motherly. She is helpful in lab and not scary like some other unnamed chem 180 teacher. her lecture is reportedly unclear--it is difficult material to learn or explain. If students read before hand there is no clarity issue.
She's willing to help on most basic concepts. Not intimidating. Very easy to get a B. An A is very possible. Extra credit for attendance. She's funny. Take her.
She reminds me of Ms. Swan from Mad TV. She is a kool lady though. She gives you a preview before the test, so you have some idea as to what expect from the real test. Her accent can be a bit hard to understand in lecture. Take her I recommend her.
totally cool. she is very nice and helpful. all tests and quizes are reasonable. remember it is chemistry (not psych 165) its not incredibly easy.take ms. maughan she is the best
you get used to the accent eventually... she is a little unorganized, which is frusturating... but she is great for labs because she is so encouraging... her class isn't that hard, and her tests follow the lecture well... no surprises. just chemistry.
Ms. Maughan is a great chemistry teacher. She cared and helped students alot. Her accent is pretty much normal, and I don't know why people keep complaining on her accent. Is this how you blame it on when you don't pay attention and not understand?
SHE IS ONE OF THE SWEETEST AND NICEST PERSON YOU WILL EVER COME ACROSS. SHE IS TREMENDOUSLY CARING AND UNDERSTANDING. SHE'S JUST TRYING HER VERY BEST TO MAKE GOOD STUDENTS OUT OF THOSE WHO NEED IT--THAT'S ALL! YOU ARE SOOOOOO WRONG TO THINK ANYTHING NEGATIVE ABOUT HER. GIVE HER A CHANCE.
Mrs. Maughan is very nice! Although she has a motherly side to her, make sure to attend her lectures regularly to do well on the tests. There is not a whole lot of homework, so it is your responsibility to keep up with the topics. Overall, I would reccommend.
Mrs. Maughan may not seem approachable at the beginning, but once you start to chat w/her she is a very nice lady. Her accent didn't bother me at all. She gives handouts in lecture of key concepts, which is very helpful! She makes every effort to help students learn the material.
BEST CHEM TEACHER AT OCC. Easy quizzes, she picks the quizzes questions from the homework problems and in-class exercises. So just memorize them. She cares about her students, and she is always trying to teach through different methods. You get over the accent pretty quick. You will learn from her
Did the teacher herself fill out all these glowing reports. She's just about the nastiest teach I've ever had the displeasure of knowing. She has an unpleasant habit of yelling in student's faces. She also gave a test over material not covered in any book or any of her lectures or anywhere.
First test was a wake up call. Read the book and do all the homework assignments, twice. She does spend more time helping students with better grades, which is counterintuitive and frustrating for the rest of us but its possible to pass the class without her help. again read the book and do the hw.
She's a great/caring/awesome teacher, She's always willing to help, and wants all her student to succeed. I wish ALL TEACHERS were like her. Test are doable, do HW, class exercise and take good notes and you'll be fine. Try to take her lab, she explains alot and will help you alot with the class.
took her classes long ago, but couldn't showed up for the finals.....she made arrangement so i didn't took the final and still received A's in the classes.....her asian ascent is tough to understand sometimes but overall she is really good teacher
Very caring and helpful even though the subject can be hard. Just be sure to read and do the homework and it will be an easy class.
don't screw up first test.. it's a wake-up call.. easy to get B, A is possible.. do quizzes, hw...
I had her for both classes and it was a good as Chemistry is going to be. Just be sure to go to lecture, actually do the homework (not just copy the answers from the soln's manual) and of course study your butt off! She's very motherly, but that's just b/c she wishes you to do well. I like her and would reccommend.
I cannot stand her. She is confused easily by questions asked of her and she is difficult to understand. She is not helpful to me at all. The class is absurd!
Very hard class, hard to understand her accent
Simply the top two teachers at OCC.
She's a horrible teacher. Doesn't care if you don't know what to do in a lab. Flips out when someone asks her a question cuz she doesn't know how to answer it herself. Leave lab fast or she'll make you clean it.
among my top favourite teachers.
If you have a problem understanding something and ask a question, she will just explain it in the same exact way each time, even if you don't understand. She is a nice person, but if she already has a preconceived perseption that you're not that bright, she will look at you like you're an idiot if you ask a question, and won't answer very clearly.

very enthusiastic teacher. Good teaching system. Very helful. Curve a lot. tests and quizzes are straight forward. My best chem. teacher.
Shes ok. she isnt very clear when explaining new concepts and doenst catch on to her own mistakes. she only has one way of explaining things but at least knows her stuff
Not a bad teacher pretty helpful but her accent and the phrase "make sen?" REALLY annoys me xP I had her the last half of semester, and i dont like very much compared to Laux, hes the best! Shes quite unorganized. I recommend Laux over her tho. Still got an A in class tho -__-"
Her teaching is very dry, monotone, uninteresting and worst chem teacher I ever had. I aced my intro to chem with a different professor and when I got to Maughan's class I got real lost. :( I didn't get much from her lecture and what sux is hw is done online and due at an unreasonable time esp for people who have alot of classes and work
you just need to ask for help during her office hours and you'll be fine. she can be kinda confusing sometimes but just don't be afraid to ask because she's happy to help. it just comes down to if you want a good grade or not really
Accent's not bad at all. I thought she was funny. VERY organized. She provides a handout of the lecture which she goes over and you just fill it in. The online homework helps a lot in understanding the material. Book not needed at all. Easy A if you know how to do the problems, setting everything up (that's pretty much all there is to the class)
If you know how to suck up to a professor then take her....she is all about favoritism... she will never help you if you dont suck up try to avoid her if u can...if you ask her a question she will respond by saying "just solve it" or just saying the same thing over...accent not so bad...but she IS REALLY NICE..just not nice when it comes to grading
Excellent professor. Very helpful and caring. She really wants everyone to do well so ask for help if you need it. Very fair grading. Tests are difficult but that is because the subject is hard. Do all homework and you should be fine.
Had her for 180&185 a couple years ago. Good effort on helpfulness. Sometimes unclear, asking to make things more clear might make things more confusing. Grading is fair. Predictable class and exams, no curve balls, nice during lab.
shes not understanding at all. shes very mean, confusing, and hard to understand. she pretty much made me hate chem
I found her lectures to be confusing, and then if anyone asked her a question it would only make things worse. Plus she would confuse herself, which didn't help.
I took chem 180 I had to drop the class because I was going to get a C. I found her lectures confusing and she could never answer questions. The homework she gives out is always on the stuff you havent learned till next lecture so its extremly hard to finish. I retook the class with proffesor Gonzales over summer and recieved and A she was a great
Mrs. Maughan wants you to get an A. She will create special "extra credit" for improvement on exams just to get you excited about improving. She really just wants you to learn the material and is that so much to ask? Now I know she can be a little confusing, but if you want the grade-you ask her for help! Didn't use the textbook at ALL.
Mrs. Maughan is a good teacher that i can rely on. I have been in U.S for about 3 years so my english is not very good. I took her chemistry 185 class last fall, and she was great. She helps me alot in homework, tests and quizes. She will explain everything that confuse you if you come to ask her. I got an A in her class and it was a fun class.
Take Laux or Appel! They are the best!!!
For all the people that say she is not clear, dont believe them they didnt try hard enough. Professor Maughan is extremely helpful and generous. She understands you and allows her students to elevate in chemistry. I did not try as i should have and i got a B. Just attend class and always be attentive to her lectures.
Please do not believe in whoever says she is not helpful or nice at all. Actually, Mrs Maughan is the best chemistry professor that i've ever met. She is very helpful and patient with students. she offers online hw which is very helpful for quizzes and tests. It's extremely easy to get an A, but i also learn alot from her for future classes.
Easy to get an A in her class, but you learn so much almost everything in the book that is the base for you future clases. Believe me she is so nice and helpful. Excellent professor overall. My favorate teacher ever. Thanks Mrs. Maughan.
I took her chemistry 185 last semester. It was so fun in lab feeling like the time flies in her class but leave me a helpful lesson. She is the right teacher who really knows what students need. She is passionate about teaching. She is very sweet, enthusiastic and patient with her students. It's extremely easy to get an A,guaranteed. But learned alot.
Great teacher. I had 130,180,185 with her, lectures and labs. She always encourages you to challenge yourself;knows when you would need help;always provides useful hints for tricky homework. Email her if you don't get the idea. She will reply with useful guide. Simple is that.I love her labs.Easy A if you work hard enough and co-operate.
Honestly, her lectures are boring. But she's such a helpful and understandable prof. Her tests are not difficult at all. Very impressive grader. U took the test on Tue, she posted yr score online on Thu. or Fri. She's easy. I would recommend her!
She is pretty easy in grading. A LOT OF extra credits, even on the tests. U have something called " improvement points" for your tests. HW is easy, do online, u can ask her your HW. Her labs are easy too. I guaranteed u will get a B (if u r not too lazy). Dont miss class, u will get 20 points for your perfect attendance. I get an A.
This review is rather biased to a certain degree. its easy to get a B if you do lab, but for someone to say this is an easy class is..well, that's not true. averages for tests are in the high D's to C's, so your curve is like 78% is a B, etc. This is not a class to take lightly just cause recent reviews say she's really easy. its entirely false.
I had this prof for 2 semester and it was hell. Her english is somewhat confusing and hard to understand. HW is online, quiz are in lab, and exam are NOT AS EASY unless you put ALOT of time. No makeup on anything she gives you. Its either you know it or you dont. If you want an A, teach it yourself. its better that way.
I think Mrs. Maughan is a great professor but she's not as easy as recent comments say she is. Chem is naturally a hard subject but she tries to make it as easy as possibile by giving relavant hw questions and examples. Its extremely easy to get a B in this class, but an A is hard. I got an A by maintaining a C+ average on my tests (not easy)
MAUGHAN FOR PRESIDENT
Hard to understand. Not that easy either. Her hwk is pretty easy but then her tests aren't really as easy. Class avg for tests was like C/D. The given notes were ok and somewhat relevant.
I took her for 180 and 185. She is a great teacher and is always willing to help. As long as you study a lot, the test are pretty easy. She is always fun to be around in lab. It is difficult to get an A but if you do really good on the quizzes it's a little easier. I thought her accent was bad at first but by the time you take 185 u don't even notice it anymore.
I had her for 180 and 185. She is an amazing chem teacher. By the second semester I got used to her accent and wasn't bothered by it. Chem is a hard class and she is willing to help even pusher her office hours. I'm TA'ing for her next semester I liked her so much.
I just love her! Study those homework questions and in class examples over and over and over and over. No, really. It is where she gets the majority of her quiz and test questions. She is an easy B but to get an A you definitely need to put in the work.
Her teaching style made me feel so hard to concentrate. Ask questions while lecturing about things you are not supposed to know yet(iow, you knew about the material before you go to class) Test and homework are completely different. Like someone else, I got an A by maintaining a C+ on the test and tried to do the homework (which is self teaching)
This teacher is more than fair, gives plenty of ways to recover from bad scores, points are spread out among tests, quizzes and homework. Her notepackets are the keys to the tests, if you ask her questions she will explain until you get it, just have to keep asking. I worked very hard and felt this was a more than fair class
Great teacher. She truly cares about her students. There's 4 tests and a final but she gives a review for each test, and all questions come from her notes or homework. An A is attainable but not easy. Put a couple hours into studying chem everyday and you'll receive the grade you want. Wonderful teacher.
Took Maughan in spring '13. Great teacher. Take her if you can. Textbook is required for HW. Study notes and re-practice HW for tests. Also, go to class! You get free points!
Good professor. Provides notes to fill in that are usually reflective of test problems. Homework is mandatory to do well in class. Rushed a lot of the material in the end, so study on your own if you want an A. Format of tests makes it very easy to lose a lot of points very quickly- be prepared for high-point multiple choice questions.
Maughan is a wonderful teacher. A lot of students were rude in my class and tried to rush her through lectures, but I really appreciated her thorough coverage of the material that mattered. There is no benefit in rushing her, what she focuses on in her lectures are exactly what will be on the exam. If you listen you will have an A.
Decent professor. I did not use the book practically at all - go over her note packets/homework/examples. Get a decent scientific calculator, not the old middle school blue one. Her labs are fairly laid back, and you can help one another so long as data is not shared. Do not miss lab or class, as there are incentives to attendence.
Ms Maughn is probably the nicest Chemistry teacher in the world. Her tests are more than fair, doesn't mean that they're easy. She test on exactly what she gives you in lecture. If you study that and practice, you'll have it down. She's really great!
This is my second semester with Maughan and I seriously can't say enough about her. She is seriously the sweetest, nicest, most helpful, coolest, and most adorable woman you will meet. She is more than fair considering a 78% is a B with 2% EC added for perfect attendance and EC on HW makes it in total more like a 74% for a B. MAUGHAN FOR PRESIDENT!
She is one of the easiest chemistry teachers you will encounter during your college career, if you cant pass her class you should reconsider taking chemistry from the first place. And she is really nice in person and helpful
Professor Maughan is a pretty dope teacher. Her lectures are pretty cool and her tests are reflective of the lecture notes. Her tests are all pretty easy. This class is honestly pretty easy going and Professor Maughan always helped me when I had a question. She is a genuinely great person/prof. You get e.c. for perfect attendance.
Pros: She is caring and helpful, offers EC, Tests and quizzes are based off the in class examples. Labs are chill and easy. Cons: HER LABS ARE RUN BY TAs (This is frustrating bc whenever I have a question she is rarely there! Her TAs sometimes don't know the answer). Lectures are confusing. She is nice and all but I learned nothing in her class.
i don't know what she is thinking. She makes the test hard everytime. So annoying. She is a nice person, however can't make the test right.
I had her Ochem lab, I recommend not taking her for this course. Shes a nice person but is not very organized or approachable. If you want an reasonable teacher, I recommend Mucciaro.
I had her a year ago for gen chem 1. Terrible experience. Lectures were organized yet unclear in teaching method. Her lab was the worse. She kept saying read the procedures when I came up with questions. Common, if I did get it, I wouldn't ask you for help. Overall not recommend.
She doesn't give good feedback, makes me feel inadequate when asking questions & she constantly makes little mistakes in lecture that take a good amount of time to unravel at home if I'm not 100% paying attention in class. She doesn't check lab answers & blindly signs my work off. (She assigns online hw that's due every Wednesday and Sunday).
Her CHEM A185 class and lab consists of: 4 tests, 2 lecture quizzes, 1 lab quiz, labs, online hw, and written hw. Her lecture style is pretty simple. There are lecture handouts, and in-class examples. Study the in-class examples REALLY closely (covered in exams). The other people on this forum obviously didn't try hard enough. Take Maughan!
- pretty straight forward as the written problems on the tests reflect the in class examples -sometimes disorganized/difficult to understand due to her messy handwriting and accent - masteringchemistry homework due each week is quite time consuming -3 absences allowed; points deducted after (lab absence 1/2 credit on entire lab) -overall, decent
Heavy course. prof. Maughan rushes lectures regularly and doesn't respond well when students bring this up. Has a thick somewhat funny accent which may be distracting. Doesn't give clear ideas. Students find errors in her work during lectures OFTEN which eats away class time. Cuts office hrs short even when students are present. Was this useful?
I was highly disappointed having taken this class with Maughan. Her lectures were disorganized in which she spent an excessive amount of time correcting the errors. Her broken English did not make it any better. Also, don't even bother emailing her because she won't respond. Definitely not recommended.
Very difficult to understand given the language barrier and she mumbles a lot. Shes a tough grader, gives very little partial credit and does not curve- I was at 89% and still got a B. Id definitely recommend someone else.
Took her last fall. Not the greatest professor but definitely not the worst. I watched Netflix during class and passed with a B, just did the homework and read the notes. She was always available for office hours and always replied to emails. Shes very helpful. She has an accent but you can still understand her. The bad reviews arent true below.
SHES SO NICE OMG YOU HAVE TO PUT EFFORT IN HER CLASS WHICH IS VERY NORMAL FOR A GEN CHEM CLASS DUHH, SHE IS VERY UNDERSTANDABLE AND HER LECTURES ARE CLEAR IF U DONT UNDERSTAND SOMETHING SHE WILL MORE THAN GLADLY HELP U LAB IS ALWAYS FUN!!! SHE ALWAYS STAYS AFTERWARDS AND HELPS I LOVE HER
I enjoyed this class and learned a lot!She knows her stuff inside out and sideways and knows how to teach it. She's also a rational human being who wants to see you learn. She put aside time for 1:1 meetings with students and there are always some extra credits available . Do it! You'll be busy, but it's so worth it.
So this class is not cake walk, but Prof Maughan is AMAZING at teaching the material and is very clear about everything. She is very willing to help, but you will have to work for your grade. pay attention in class and do all your homework everything counts, attendance too. she will consider every effort you put in class and lab.
She is organized, and works really hard to deliver amazing study aids. She is extremely nice, intelligent, and does an excellent job of teaching the material to her students. Put in effort and you will do great.
Shes a nice lady! The subject is tough on its own and she does tend to make things more difficult during lectures. She makes mistakes that tend to take time away from lecture. Im doing fine but I believe thats because Ive taken Chem180 a few years back. Shes sweet but unfortunately I wouldnt recommend her based on teaching ability.
Amazing professor. Very interactive with students and will help when she sees a student struggling. Lectures are necessary to understand the subject.
She is not out to make you fail, she's very knowledgable and is willing to help you out as long as you are willing to ask. She is a total sweetheart, the kind of professor that has former students visiting her all year long. She is also by far the most patient professor EVER. I would definitely take her again.
She is very solid and fair. The subject matter is hard and people underestimate the amount of work it takes. She will help you if you ask for it. It is very easy to get a B, but requires a lot of effort to push that B over into an A, which is fair. I would take her again.
The most kind, cute chem joker, compassionate, motivating chem prof.! Shell go out of her way for you if you have the capability of asking for help. If youre struggling ASK questions in her lab or office hrs. Allows students extra time to finish in other labs. Chem is tough,YOU HAVE TO DO THE WORK and PUT IN TIME OTHERWISE pick something easier.
Professor Maughan is amazing. She tries to make the material as understandable as she can, and if you dont understand or seem like your having trouble with the concepts, she'll come up to you herself. She is easily one of the nicest professor I have encountered. I cant wait to start 185 with her in the fall!
Professor Maughan is the best chemistry professor I had so far. I like how she offers lecture outlines and In-class examples as a way to practice problems that would be on the test. She is really kind and sweet. She cares about her students and always answers any questions in lab. Her lab was the best I ever had.
Had this professor for spring 18. I MUST IMPRESS UPON YOU that this lady is not very well organized for her lectures. That being said her Lab isnt difficult but she gets confused with her lecture examples at minimum once per lecture for a 10 minute problem. I passed with a B but the quality of teaching felt poor and rushed. Sorry, dont recommend.
Chem180 is a class that requires a lot of work no matter who you take (it is a 5 unit college-level science course, after all), but Professor Maughan made it a great experience. She's friendly, approachable, and cares about her students. Show up to class and lab, stay on top of homework, study, and you'll pass. Taking her again this fall for 185!
She has terrible time management, will take almost one whole lecture to explain 1 example problem. Has so many errors in her examples in class. Annoying accent makes it difficult to understand. Mumbles during lecture too, which makes it EVEN HARDER to understand. Highly UNORGANIZED. WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND EVEN TO MY WORST ENEMIES.
She has a very thick accent which makes it extremely hard to understand her. She assigns lots of homework. She's a very nice woman though. If you have an emergency she'll let you retake the test. There is lots of homework. Labs are annoying. Offers minor extra credit for cleaning up sometimes. Makes lots of mistakes when doing problems.
She assigns a lot of homework (online and written), but it's to help us understand the concepts. She's very nice, approachable, and willing to help. Visit her during office hours! Labs are not easy but the atmosphere is very chill. Her tests are mainly based on the in-class examples, so study those very carefully. Overall, good professor.
Professor Maughan really helped me through a tough semester. Not only was she approachable outside of class, she was a great teacher and respected professor. I really enjoyed learning from her throughout the semester, and I am very grateful to have had her as a teacher. She truly cares about her student's well-being.
She grades by written homework, online homework, quizzes, exams, and lab work. She uses Masteringchemistry, so she posts the grade there, not on Canvas. She makes many mistakes at the lecture, especially for calculations. She is kind and cared tho. Sometimes she does lecture at the lab, so perhaps she does not cover everything for every lab.
I would not take this class again. She is very unorganized and moves way too fast through her lectures. I unfortunately took her during the COVID-19 outbreak and instead of taking away assignment she ADDED lab HW assignments on top of our 2 HW's each week! she added multiple quizzes on worth 5pts. worst experience I've had with a class ever.
Her lectures were unorganized and when people had questions, she rarely had the right answers! She always makes mistakes during in-class samples and I relied mostly on my tutors to pass the quizzes and exams. Especially during the pandemic, she gave too many Homeworks and taught 2 chapters in 1 week for the final! DON'T TAKE HER CLASS
Horrible teacher, I had her for Spring 2020 and I couldn't express how bad she was. Her lectured were unorganized, she never responds to her emails, especially during the pandemic she assigned more homework to the long HW we already had. During Zoom lectures, she would get mad if you did not have your camera on at all times. DO NOT TAKE HER
I had the professor during the whole COVID-19 issue, so I was able to see both how she conducted her class online as well as in the class. When on campus, she was a very average teacher that was willing to help you wherever she could. But as soon as online school began, my opinion changed completely as her lack of common sense was infuriating.
Took her class during COVID. Assigned more work now that we were learning from home. Spent 10-14 hours in her class per week. She gave us some extra credit but not very understanding when reaching out to her. VERY stubborn, unreasonable, and won't round your grade up. Spent 30+ hours on her class per week.
I took Professor Maughan's classes in Fall 2020. She is very kind, friendly and willing to help students. If you confused about any problems, meet her at her office hour and she will help you out. Follow the lectures, take notes, understand the in-class examples, practice many times then you will do well on quizzes and exams.
Ms H has improved her classes a lot since last year. Her past reviews don't represent her class now. Yes her class is A LOT of work but she is good at teaching the subject. Your grade is reflective of the amount of effort you put in & how much you study. She does truly want to see her students do well. This is a class that needs to be prioritized!
I took Chem 180 & 185 with her. She is great! The way she teaches suits me, even online! She's caring & provides many examples during class which I like. Now, like other Chem classes, you need to put in time to learn. The HW assigned is a reasonble amount, & she is there to help. Do the HW! Ask questions! If you give it your best you will do well!
Professor Maughan's class was definitely a challenge and a lot of work is needed to receive such a grade. Her live lectures (+ in-class examples) were clear and very helpful when reviewing/studying for exams. Many extra credit opportunities. Take advantage of her office hours. Her teaching style really suited my learning style. Good luck!
She doesn't handle online well even after 3 semesters of it. Tests felt like they had nothing to do with our lecture, and any time I asked a question I left talking to her more confused if she felt like answering it. Had to teach myself the material off online videos from OTHER TEACHERS.
Weekly homework isn't hard but super tedious. She tells us there's a test in a week then lectures on 2-3 more chapters that are not going to be on the test. We spend time studying for tests with content from 2-3 weeks ago, and then get a lab the same week on the new content. Then she questions why most of the class got such low test scores.
Was really surprised by some of the other reviews. Helen was always very helpful when asked questions, even encouraged it. I personally didn't do well with her lecture style of filling in the blanks from pre-typed notes but thats how most online professors are now. Labs were understandable w reasonable time and lab breakout room groups. very avg.
labs are hard and picky. is a VERY nice old grandma lol the class loved her as a person. downside is she lectures either WAY too slow or WAY too fast (fast on ez stuff slow on hard). TONS of HW imo, but you can garner around 2% extra credit if you work your butt off
Good professor, but lectures are kind of boring. Exams are not too tough, but studying is required if you want an A. Plus she gives a lot of extra credit opportunities!
I was initially extremely anxious in the first two weeks of class since we went back in-person, labs were solo, and she seemed intimidating, but it definitely helped that classmates are so friendly/helpful & so is Maughan; she's actually very sweet. Helpful tips: ask for help (office hours, before/after lab, peers, etc.) & go over notes' examples.
She is very kind and sweet but a horrible lecturer. If you put in a lot of effort, you can do well in her class. Gives lots and lots of homework, but also gives a lot of chances for extra credit. Her exam questions are often verbatim from her in class examples, so if you practice those problems over and over again, you will do well on the test.
she doesnt explain things or answer questions (she goes around the bush). lectures are slow/boring. labs are hard bc shes a picky grader. tests are hard, none of the examples/reviews helped. LOTS OF HW!!! she assigns way too much, its super tedious. the scheduling is awful bc we jump into a new chapter before even taking the test for prev chapters.
She's a very sweet person, but not the greatest professor. I didn't grasp any concepts from her lectures, I only learned material from doing the hw. She's very useful in lab and it's clear that she wants all her students to succeed! To get an A or B, I would redo BOTH the in-class practice problems and practice exams
I loved Professor Maughan's class, she is very kind but also wants you to learn the material well. The lectures and labs are at a fair pace where you can get ahead if you work hard enough. Grading felt fair for the most part. There is a reason why her class had a waitlist.
such a sweet little old lady! she is absolutely amazing in lab and very friendly over all. only thing is that he lectures are very difficult to get through bc they are very...boring. she lays out exactly how to get an A and offers extra credit. just do the in class examples and her reviews and you will do fine.
Lectures were pretty slow & she tends to have to lecture a lot during lab too later in the semester in order to catch up. do all of the HW & example problems & you'll be fine (also youtube videos for more clear explanations). Also she's great & super helpful during lab!
Professor Maughan is very lenient if you show up and do your work. She gave us many extensions on the homework if you asked. Her exams are very doable if you study the In-class examples and do the homework. She is a very nice teacher and I had a lot of fun in her lab class.
Took her for two semesters, and I had such a great time. She is very sweet, approachable, and truly wants her students to succeed. Lab especially was such a great experience. There is a lot of homework, but also a lot of extra credit. Lectures are slow but the notes provided are very useful. Maughan is just such a phenomenal professor.
Amazing professor, but overall very hard class. Lectures are very hard to follow along with and are not posted online. Lab is very fun and easy. Get ready to study
very slow lectures... almost fell asleep. she's really nice it's just very slow lectures. don't take if you're used to fast pace lectures, you will forget things... tests are layed out on weird dates lol. we took a test on a topic she taught us a month ago.
if she tells u she's gonna give extra credit for notes, don't skip lecture. she doesn't allow u to copy notes from other people and she'll call u out for skipping. if ur slow in lab, take another professor. she continued to lecture for another 2 hours in lab and gets mad at us when we are behind. dont even try to ask her a question in lab.
