Passionate about the subject. Really encouraging and helpful when needed most.
She's very clear in her lecture. She gives 3 possible essay questions before the test, so prepare and you'll get a 20/20. Her tests are based on reading, but mostly lecture and film. You don't even have to read the book, and you'll pass with a B.
Passionate teachers + lazy students = passionately lazy learners. Fun class, everyone needs to be educated on some good western culture because there is simply not enough of that stuff here!
She is very enthusiastic about teaching, nice and funny. she gives study guides that help alittle but the essays ?s are a little harder. Overall this class is an easy b but you need to study and do extra credit. you can get away with out reading the text
the class was fun because she made it fun. her enthusiasm keeps you awake. but one thing, WATCH OUT for the tests. they can be very, very misleading as she formats it if you were a HISTORY MAJOR. it's not THAT hard, but like i said, you gotta put some effort in to get the grade you'd like.
She's a great personality and makes the class so intersting, even American history. Her Humanities class is GREAT and very informative. Good book for reference and overall, a very interesting and productive class.
She is a really good teacher. She is so into everything that she says so class isn't boring. She drops your lowest test, and offers up to 30 points extra credit. Plus her study guides are SO helpful for tests and she gives the essay question before test and basically tells the answer. Good class
She's a dynamic instructor and if you weren't interested before you will be!!!
she's a great teacher but a bit dull. i always found myself falling asleep in her class because the ONLY thing she does is lecture and make us watch boring old educational films. she tries, but history just isn't my thing and i definitely did NOT want to change my major after her class.
Shes a great techer. She knows her stuff. At times her lectures are hard to follow. Shes very passionate about History and she tries to tell alot of funny jokes. Easy A if you read and do the study guides that she gives you.
Easy , fun class. Prof. McComb is a great person and wonderfull person. She is very knowledgeble and makes lectures easy to understand. Her tests are very easy as long as you do the reading and follow her study guied. The final is a little hard but if you go in with an A you will be fine. McComb is just one of those teachers that will make an impact
This class is very interesting. I took the 8 week course and she was able to cover a lot of material. For tests, she reviews and basically tells you what the essay question is, so that's helpful. She offers TONS of extra credit, and basically, if you do the study guide, you should end up with a good grade. If you do the extra credit too = "an A"
Test, quite easy. Homework, none. Extra Credit, too much. To achieve an "A" get an average of 80% in class and do all of extra credit.
McComb is a funny lady & so enthusiastic! Her Humanities class made me want to travel the world. Tests weren't bad at all...Mult choice plus an essay of which she would inform you the topic. Interesting lectures, great sense of humor, and very intelligent.
Not only a great teacher, but an excellent indiviual. she is very knowledgeable in her field of History. Also, she makes the class very interesting which increases the participation of many student. if your doing average in the classroom, do the extra credit and your guarenteed to get a B in the classroom.
I love this teacher, she's amusing and very interesting. Great class, just make sure you read and visit museums...
The worst thing I could say about her class is that she almost always keeps you till the exact time to leave. Other then that, if you study and take notes you would have to be brain dead to not get at least a B.
kind of a basket case, everything she tells you is "sooo interesting, isn't it?" but as long as you show up (and you can show up late without consequence) and take notes, it's an easy class. as long as you pay attention to the test reviews and movies, you're good for at least a B.
The reoccuring theme is the ability to reason and celebrate what it means to be human through arts, literature and philosophy. As excited and passionate as she sounds it's still a sleeper class. Anyways, what's 8 weeks out of your life?
Eww hated her! she is so annoying and shes kind of not all there
she teaches the most boring unobjective kind of american history. She says "in fact" at least 5 times a minute, extremely repetetive. One good thing, she teaches straight out of the book, a few movies, and if you take notes in her class you'll do fine, if you can read her writing!
McComb is a wonderfull woman full of knowledge and sunshine. the comments below represent meatheads who cant concentrate on anything but the "playboy model pictures" downloaded onto their cellphones. she is funny and interested in what she teaches. best history class ever. she gives perfect notes and exams are clear questions with clear answers.
She is very passionate about history. She's always happy and makes you see history in a different way. Good class.
Her tests are based on her lectures and on the videos she shows in class. As long as you study for the tests you will do good in the class. She also gives extra credit.
One of the best professors I've had. She really is passionate about what she teaches and as such makes her lectures really interested. She gets everyone involved and is very animated. She's helpful with plenty of extra credit and her tests are easy enough if you listen and study what she recommends. Highly recommended
For the most part, a pretty boring class. She should be teaching at an Ivy League, not at a JC. A very intellectual teacher, and like another commenter said, says "In fact" at least once per sentence. It is a pretty easy class, though, especially with the extra credit she gives. If you do that, you're bound to pass the class.
I will take this wherever I go. A life changing class! Don't attend this college without taking Humanities, and if you take it, take her class!
great teacher; tests are OK, some studying is requirted to get an A or a B; extra credit is SUPER easy; made both of these moronic subjects actually interesting; if you hate history, she is the one to take!!
I love history, but she kinda bored me. I like how she's enthusiastic about history, but i couldn't help falling asleep. To get an A, make sure you study the study guide and read the text book.
this is by far the best teacher i have ever taken. She is very clear, interesting, and kind. She makes you think and challenges your mind. Her test's are also pretty easy, she gives a study guide and will answer any questions you have. I recieved a 95% on my first exam. if your not lazy it's an easy A.
soo easy. i love her personality. shes eccentric and intelligent. great classs. i wish there was more humanities classes with her.
IT's a fun and easy class, she's very animated and always encourages discussions. The only thing is that the textbook is extremely wordy and boring to read and lead to nowhere at all. Overall, she's a very nice and easy teacher.
Very interesting lectures. The problem is, they only cover 20% of the chapter. Meaning you must do alot lot of reading, else you go bye bye. Even so, the odd of you A the exam will still only be 20% while 70% of getting D. The suckiest part is the Essay section on the exam, not only the topic is unclear, she will give you very little time to write.
Yes, you have to read the text book, but she gives you a study guide and the essay questions before hand. She is very into what she teaches so you won't fall asleep in lecture, even in the morning classes. Definitly take this class.
Very Passionate Professor. She loves what she teaches and it truly shows when she decribes the art work or the history. She does her best to bring the whole class to participate and makes sure the students understand the unit. As long as you read at home and make sure you understand her lectures you're good to go on the 50 questions and essay.
she is a little crazy sometimes but thats what makes the class so interesting. very passionate about what she is teaching. lecture and notes are easy to understand. if you complete the study guide youll ace the multiple choice and she pretty much gives you the answer to the essays.
Interesting class. Shes slightly insane, she hits walls and moves her hands a lot. Tests are easy as long as you do her study guides and take notes. She gives extra credit which help. I like her alot, and everyone should take the class which is interesting.
shes a really nice lady, her lectures get boring at times, but you have to be in class. study guides are super helpful, but somethings from the midterm are from the lectures only.
Really nice, and encouraging teacher. Her exams are not hard if you read the book, attend class(exams are also based on lecture notes which may not be included on book). However, the book is too wordy so be prepare to read a lot !!!!!!!!!!
very nice teacher. make sure u attend lecture cuz her lectures are on the exams. NOt a hard class, but the class requires lots of reading because the book reading materials are on the exam as well. if you attend her lectures and read every reading assignment u should be fine.
McComb is an awesome teacher! Her lectures are very interesting. She's funny and you learn a lot in her class. Definitely recommended!
Excelent teacher, very helpful and makes it interesting. Not boring, get to watch videos, and I took the 8 week course. Worked with me and helped me out and understood a particular situation I was going through and did her best to accomodate. Would take her again, all you need to do is study for the tests, that is it.
i came into humanities thinking it was going to be boring and uninteresting, but professor mccomb is so into what she teaches. she was funny, helpful, and really encouraged us to think. i barely attended class and still managed to get an a. her study guides are exactly what is on the test, so use your book and read.
awesome professor, take her class! the essay questions on tests are not hard at all.. one of the very few teachers whose class is super easy, but you still learn a lot of interesting stuff!
she's got an insane personality. very interesting during lecture. her tests are pretty easy and she lets u drop 1 out of the first 3, you can't drop the final but its not cumulative. very interesting person.
Her class is pretty easy. You don't really have to study that much. She has a study guide of key pts for each section. Her tests are 40 MC and an Essay(20 pts) which is pretty easy cuz she gives you the questions with the study guide and picks the easiest essay question each time. Pretty easy class but a REALLY BORING LECTURE. Good class though.
Awesome teacher, great method, perfect style, clear, concise. Thought humanities would be boring but I really enjoyed this class.
good lectures but kinda boring sometimes. tests are somewhat easy but you just have to know your stuff. she includes one essay question in each test & she always picks out the simple ones. she also gives study guide q's which help a lot.
AWSOME teacher!! Her enthusiasm and love for what she teaches will rub off on you and make doing the work enjoyable. As long as you read the text and attend class you can get a good grade. plus she is always willing to help you out and loves when people participate. Take one of her classes! you will NOT regret it!
I loved her! She made this class interesting and the material very clear. The tests are easy and she is very helpful.
tests are over lecture, book, and a study guide which if you mainly use you'll be fine there is an essay portion to every test but its never hard and you just kind of ramble your way through it. im not good at history and i pulled it off.
She loves railroads and makes history pretty interesting. Her tests are a bit hard if you don't study. But the book is SO DAMN expensive, and you need it. She's really nice. If you try in her class you could easily get an A. But you have to study.
Helen McComb is, in my opinion, the best professor OCC has to offer. She is brilliant. She is dynamic and her lectures are, if anything, entertaining and captivating. I didn't read the book and am sure that I got an A in the class. Just go over the study guide and don't miss class. TAKE HER. I am so glad I did.
Professor Mccom is so nice. come to her office hour if you need help for hist. She loves to help the students. 3 exams, 1 final.she lets you drop 1 lowest exam, but not final. loooove her so much.
I love Mrs. Mccomb. Shes amazing and so smart! Her class is not easy by any means but shes so helpful. If you ask her questions she does all that she can to answer them, and is willing to help outside of class as well. Great teacher!
*yawn*
I really like the way she teaches the class. Very interesting, keeps you engaged in the material. Knows a lot and is not boring at all! The videos were good too, it blends in with lecture and material really well. highly recommend this class.
She is nice, enthusiastic, and passionate. She is the best teacher I've ever had at OCC. She makes her class interesting and tries to involve students. The class consists of 3 exams and final. Exams are multiple-choice quetions and essay. It's not so hard if you do all the reading assignment and study the study guide. Take her class.
This is a great class and Prof. McComb is enthusiastic and passionate about her subject. Very helpful and really wants her students to succeed. 2 exams and drop lowest score plus final. Very interesting class.
Prof. McComb is a great professor. She is helpful and clear. She gives you a study guide. Let me type you a secret. USE IT!!! Class is fun a exciting; she really drives home the message. She is a total academic, meaning she knows what she is talking about. During lecture she repeats things so you can share in her abundant knowledge. I got an "A" in both Hist 175, and Hum 100. Take her only if you want to learn something and have fun doing it.
Mccomb is an amazing professor. I absolutely could not stand history prior to her class but she really got me interested. She's very passionate about the subject, and you can see that in her lectures. Tests aren't too difficult as long as you study, and she gives you a very helpful study guide. Best history teacher I've ever had. Take her!
McComb - lets see. I read these comments before I took her and did not base it on this site as I normally dont. BUT! I have never fallen asleep in any class EVER in my life and you I snooze 10mins in. Tests consist normally of one topic of 1 maybe 2 chapters out of 4 or 5.
Expects you to be shocked at her lame attempts to "liven" up participation by stomping or throwing her hands at you. Her "powerpoints" are lame and every once in a while she'll repeat something 3x or more reciting in between "this will be on the test" like we are as old and possibly deaf as her. Very monotone voice in lecture.
3 tests, 1 final. Drops lowest test. I have a HUGE interest in history especially WWII and she put me to sleep EVERY CLASS! Attendance is taken by signing in and if you give someone ur id # name and how you initial, you never have to come to class. If you want to know what you got on each test, DONT come to class the day after because SHE DOESNT!
She misses EVERY CLASS after a test and 98% of the time she'll miss the class after that one too giving you a WEEK of no history. WASTE OF MONEY! The only good thing is that she at least moves each test back depending on how many classes she misses. Downside - YOU LEARN NOTHING! DONT TAKE!
Practically expects you to fall in love with your history book and start spouting boring facts off to everyone you meet. Her study guides are way too general, yet her tests are very specific. She lectures REALLY fast and unless you're tape recording her you'll never be able to write down all the info you need. I DO NOT recommend her. Take Prof Raya
Prof. McComb is one of the best professors I have had at OCC. She may repeat things, but that is because research shows that if you repeat something 3 times the listener will get the message. U.S. History is a mandatory class and how easy can she make it! No homework, drops 1 of your first 3 exams and spoon feeds you the info. Enjoy it!
I took her for Humanities 100 this Fall 2008 semester. GREAT TEACHER! very clear and concise. VERY INTERESTING class. One of the best professors I've had! SHE IS A MUST!
Awesome person/teacher,her lectures are very interesting/fun,do the studyguide, keep up with the text book reading, however i would reccomend studying your lectures notes a lot more than the study guide, the tests are probably 75/25 lecture notes,DONT COME TO CLASS AFTER A TEST,she never shows, her lectures make the concepts alot easier to understand
IGNORE ANY COMMENTS REGARDING HER MISSING CLASS! You might get dropped as she drops past 4 absences. That was a special semester, she was dealing with some problems of some sort and had to cancel class alot. This is what I was told from my other prof Smolin (who is a great guy). She's not usually like that so don't count on her being like that.
tells you exactly wats going to be on the essay portion.you really need to do the readings and study guides.some materials on the test will also be discuss in class so show up on meetings. class is dismissed sumtime
Kindest teacher ever! Really makes history come to life. I have found her to be inspiring as well as a mentor. She missed class a lot this past semester but that is HIGHLY unusual. I took her for humanities as well and she never missed class. Do the SG, do the EC, and study the essay questions you will get an A.
Good teacher. Cancelled class like 8 times which was nice. good sense of humor when she tells a joke laugh cause if you dont she will ask you to anyway.
Outstanding professor! She has a great passion for her work and seems to really enjoy what she does. The class in not easy but it is not hard, she just wants you to learn the material. If you go to OCC you should take her at some point. I was not that interested in art prior to her class but now I am. I can't say enough good things about her.
McComb is a great professor. Getting an A is not hard. Your grade is based on three tests(she drops your lowest test score)and the final. Doing the study guide is essential. And to top it all off she offers extra credit. There should be no reason why anyone shouldn?t be able to get an A in this class. She is really nice and enthusiastic.
She is so passionate about history that she talks way too fast. She goes off on her own stories and its hard to keep up. Do the study guides and show up to class cause if you dont your going to be lost. Shes a good teacher if you like fast pace and passionaite if not dont take her you will end up hating it. Calls on people a lot.
Mrs. McComb is a great history teacher and I highly recommend taking her class. She knows what she's talking about and you can tell that she enjoys doing what she does. She's very nice too and the course is pretty easy.
so i've been reading a few of the bad comments on here..first of all.. i dont know how anyone can think she is boring.. high strung is more what i'd say which keeps it fun! i think she is great.. and am actually taking a second class with her this next semester..she truly is a great woman..and those who think other wise are well..stupid..TAKE HER!
She lectured the whole time and was quite boring. I was horrible at history so I was always in her office to have her help me. She is a nice lady and really knows what shes talking about. 3 Exams and thats it. Passed barely with a C, but if your good at history id take her.
Okay so this professor is Nuts she talks & talks & talks she even sometimes goes over her lecture time!! She is WAY too into this subject!! She stutters & uses A LOT of hand gestures shes pretty much dancing around the classroom the WHOLE time while talking! she asks the most pointless questions & keeps on adding question to you answers Dont take!!
1st couple of days, wasn't really into her because she lectured from beginning to end (not from notes, just from her knowledge). Then I had my POLI SCI class w/ Rendell who only does boring powerpoint notes STRAIGHT FROM THE BOOK. Which made me realize how great Mccomb is! I'm not a huge fan of History but in her class, I'm actually learning...
(continued) I also like how she tries to stay neutral (I have a sense she's conservative, but she never teaches based on her views). She provides a study guide which MAKES you read the book, because you need to for the test. If you go to class & take notes plus do the S.G, tests & essay question are easy. No HW, just 3 exams, and final,& E.C option
Helen's pretty fun to talk to. She offers extra credit on every test and also an entire project that is extra credit. She also drops one test (all three have EC). So if you ignore that test, she give out 40 points of EC for a 300 point class. That's more than a 10% boost for anyone wondering.
I love McComb! There are three tests and the final. She drops the lowest of the first three tests, for 300 total points in the class and a possible 20 points extra credit. Pay close attention in lectures - that is a huge part of what she tests on! The best part is there are no surprises, on the test or otherwise.
I can't say enough how much I loved McComb. She is what a college professor should be. She's very interesting and excited about EVERYTHING, and it makes you excited. If you follow the study guide and take good notes in class you will get an A, easy. There is extra credit on each test. And she's friendly, personable and genuinely cares about you.
She makes the class VERY interesting and its HISTORY!! One of the best teacher I've had because of her lecture skill. Kinda take note and study from the book and you should pass..
She is extremely passionate about what she teaches, but gets off topic sometimes. No hw or quizzes. 3 exams and final multiple choice with essay questions, which she gives you ahead of time. Also gives you study guide. The exams were really easy, got an A in the class! Take her!
TAKE A DIFFERENT TEACHER. Studied for her exam based on the study guide she gave the class. Questions on the study guide are very broad and the questions on the test are very specific and many of them don't relate to the study guide at all. Very disappointed with her class.
Mccomb is probably one the most fascinating professors at OCC due to her sheer passion of History. she has this captivating skill of making you interested and enthused. She is definitely a teacher I'd recommend.
McComb is a nice lady and makes it easy for you to pass. Basically, answer the study guide questions AS YOU READ the chapter then study these. TAKE NOTES in class and study. Look over the essay questions, she GIVES them to you. Do the extra credit, easy 10 pts. I'd recommend her if you have down time in your schedule for readings (long and boring)
tons of notes. but awesome. and easy. just show up and pay attention
3 exams (drop the lowest one) and one final. Use ur study guide to study for ur exams and I'm sure u will get at least an B. U have to read the book!!! She's a VERY NICE lady, passionate abt history. Best teacher and best class I've ever taken. I've learned a lot from her class. RECOMMEND her if u want to get A and still want to learn something.
Pay attention in class. ALWAYS take notes from her lectures. The lectures were pretty good not boring. Do ur study guide. Every exam has an essay question except the final
Simply Amazing! She is interesting allows to tape lectures need to take notes. Tests come off of lectures, book and films. Test are straight forward do your reading attend class. Love to listen to her lectures over and over again!
She is very quirky, and is very funny in my opinion. I didn't even buy the book, and I'm pretty sure I'm getting an A in the class. Just go to every lecture, take notes, and actually listen to what she's saying. She often tells the class what will be on the next test, and there are always extra credit questions. I recommend her, she's very fun!
Interesting class. Be sure to pay attention to lecture and take notes. Tests cover both lecture and textbook. Provides detailed study guides for each test. Drops lowest test score(not incl. final). Very passionate teacher and engages the class. Be sure to pay attention she will call on random students. Laptops ok.
Really nice teacher, but if you're not interested in art then do not take this class. She talks really fast, so bring a recorder.. as long as you read the material and show up for class you'll get an A!
Teacher is average at best. 3 Test(Drops your lowest one of the 3) and a Final. Very Random in class and study guide is very vague to truly be helpful. Boring lecture class, essay questions are pretty hard.
This class was average. You can tell she is really passionate about humanities. Nice teacher. 3 tests- drops your lowest score. Study guides are massive, and tests are difficult, so you need to spend a good amount of time studying. Offers extra credit.
she is a really funny teacher and i enjoyed her class. she provides study guides for the exams and drops the lowest one. offers extra credit and shows films in class. make sure you take good notes
Such a nice professor. 3 exams (drops lowest score)& final. Tests are MC&essay question. Tells you essay question before the test..test is 80 % from textbook& 20 % from class notes, attendance not mandatory however if you never come test will be very difficult. Went to class, filled out study guide, and got an A. Nice lady- you get what you put in
Lecture gets boring, it's easy to wander off in your thoughts. Exams are easy if you do the study guide. 20% lecture. 80% textbook, with essay portion that is 20% of your exam. Gives possible essay questions beforehand. Offers extra credit. very passionate about humanities. Sweet and nice lady.
3 exams 100 pts each. Drops lowest score. Final (not cumulative) 100 points. Tests 40 questn M/C & essay question- tells u essay question before the test. If u do the study guide, u will be fine. Study guide is massive but she hands out all study guides 1st day of class. Offers 20 pts extra credit..took me from a B to an A. SO nice and helpful!!!!
McComb is so passionate and is very clear about what she is looking for. She offers a lot of extra credit. It is a hard class but I would reccommend her to anyone!
Loved Professor McComb! 4 exams (1 dropped) + a final. Study guide is massive but she gives it to you first day of class. You HAVE TO take notes on everything she says in class..it will ALL be on the test. I took extensive notes, and thoroughly read the textbook, and got an A. Worked hard for it..very fair class..you get what you give.
Loved listening to her lectures. She makes it very fun and entertaining. Just go and take good notes (you can record her too). She gives a study guide.
She is such a good teacher. Very enthusiastic with her lectures. I have never been one to like history, but it is the end of the semester for me and I enjoy learning about it. I highly recommend her
Great teacher! As long as you study the gist you're good. She really keeps your attention which makes the class easy to learn. She involves everyone so be ready to get called on. Loved her class.
SHE IS AMAZING!!! She loves what she is teaching and is incredibly passionate. She tells you exactly what to write for the essay and the multiple choice portion of the test isn't bad either. I highly recommend taking her class, and she offers extra credit.
she is amazing. so passionate, and so willing to help her students. she answers questions thoroughly and is respectful of her students. there's EC & drops your lowest test. i'm not a history person at all, but she made the subject more than bearable. Attend class though; your notes will be important for the essay portions. textbook is very helpful.
All the great reviews are spot on!So many times I wanted a day off school but I knew going to her class would fly by. she has so much energy throughout the enitre class its over before you know it. i got a B and thats just from taking interesting notes and listening. register for her class before it fills up!
Professor McComb is honestly one of the best professors at OCC! If every teacher was like her then there would be no trouble with learning any subject. She has an infectious, positive personality that is hard to ignore. Her class only consists of 4 tests (1 is the final and 1 of the first 3 is dropped). Just take notes and maybe do the study guide.
This teacher obviously loves what she teaches and who she teaches it to. At first I had no interest in Humanities, but with her attention grabbing lectures it is hard not to be intrigued by what she is explaining. She is a very understanding and helpful lady, who I am glad to have taken a class of.
She is a very nice lady and definitely knows what she is talking about. With little interest in American History I still managed to pay attention due to her passionate speeches. I always studied her studyguide and did the easy extra credit but still got a C. The test just asked questions that were not on the studyguide. Learn essay questions!
To get an A- go to class every time and take notes on EVERYTHING she says, READ textbook, write 1 flashcard for every study guide question with the answers you find in the book, and practice out essay problems she gives you. Tests are 20 % notes what she tells you in class, and 80% from textbook. Offers extra credit! Did all this & got a high A
She is a wonderful teacher. She loves the subject and loves her students. She will do whatever it takes to help her students get the grade that they want and deserve. I thoroughly enjoyed taking her class and would definitely recommend taking her for this class.
Great class, grade was on 3 tests worth 120 points each (360 total semester) each test had 3-5 extra credit questions also she gives a 10 point extra credit interview assignment. Tests are easy just pay attention to lecture anything she says 3 times or "write that down" will be on the test... duh! Easy class to pass just pay attention.
I love LOVE Prof. McComb! she was so amazing and really has an interest in the subject. I took her class in the summer. Lots of reading; she makes history fun and exciting, which i loved. highly recommend taking her! sometimes she can talk about something for 10 minutes, but she gets the point across, take her!
I loved professor McComb! I took her for Humanities 100 and didn't have a clue on the subject, but she is the best at what she does! I would definitely recommend this professor if you are the kind of student to want to learn in class. She is no easy A, but her lectures are so inspiring and interesting! I wish I had taken her for history as well.
McComb is one of the best professors at OCC! I loved her class. She is so passionate and enthusiastic. Her lectures are fun and you learn so much. She has a lot of extra credit options. You do have to read and attend class to pass but it's really easy. She tells you exactly what will be on the exams. AND she drops your lowest score.
I absolutely loved her class. She's the best professor I've had at OCC. She's passionate about everything she teaches and shows you the meaning and beauty behind small things you'd miss if you were only reading the textbook. I was actually excited to go to this class.
Ive never had a better professor. She is so knowledgeable. I thought a class on recent American history would be a chore, but she makes it so interesting I almost want to be a history major. She communicates clearly and has a great sense of humor. You can tell that she loves history and no one has yet been able to stump her. I would take again!!!!
OCC should really make it mandority to take any of her classes! She is an incredible educator! Very intelligent and witty! Clear grading criteria, grades quickly and the lectures are so interesting. You get out of her class with what YOU put in. But if you do put in the work, you will learn so much! Absolutely loved her!!
Amazing teacher, very knowledgable. We clicked together right away since I love history. Her office hours are right after class usually so if you have any questions on the lecture you can ask them there. Her lectures are set up so that you learn about the past, and then apply it to the present. Use the syllabus, she has reviews for the test in it.
She is very clear on what she expects you to know for tests. Primarily lectures so take notes and pay attention and you will do fine. Her lectures hold your interest with her obvious passion for history.
I took this class in the summer and I've got to say it's by far one of the best classesI've taken at OCC. Ms. McComb is such a passionate teacher and her lectures are very informative and full of energy. My tips for passing this class would be to read before lectures, take good notes, use the study guide and ask her any questions about the study g
There is 3 exams(drop lowest of the 3) and 1 Final. 80% of the each exam is multiple choice the other 20% is a written essay. Final is all multiple choice. She gives you a chance to earn a max of 20 pts of EC if you visit 2 museums(do them, it's pretty easy). Don't ditch class or else you won't understand anything. Class is super boring but easy.
The more I know of professors, the more I appreciate Prof. McComb. What sets her above other professors is her respect for the mind of a student. So far, She is the only professor I know who doesnt push her opinions on the class. In fact, she is very clear about you making up your own mind as to the good or bad of an event. I learned so much.
She is a very nice professor and her topics are interesting (sometimes). You have to take notes while she lectures, NO POWERPOINT AT ALL. So make sure you're a good note taker! and you have to read the textbook! if you don't read or take good notes, you're screwed for the test. wouldn't take this class again
This class is a very easy A. Even though I worked on other homework during class and missed a couple sessions to study for other classes I still did well. You do have to study, just take notes and do the study guides. Although some of the topics can be dry, there are definitely interesting sections for everyone. Very nice lady and good prof.!!!
Best professor at OCC in my opinion. She genuinely cares, she is a great lecturer, you will not be bored. You do need to take good notes and read the textbook but she tests right from the book and notes so just study, the tests aren't hard. I promise she'll make you rethink your major if you aren't a history major already.
McComb is by far my favorite professor at Occ. She has a passion for history that is unrivaled. Class is all note taking, no powerpoint. 3 exams, each exam has an essay question (grades on ability to answer the prompt, not on grammatical ability). drops lowest of 3 exams. Very good at staying neutral on touchy subjects. Take her at all costs!
She is really sweet . Her lectures are long and very informational. Miss one day and you might as well failed. Her course work is not difficult. All you do in A175 is lecture/documentary, take notes ( not graded), study guide (not graded), possible essay topics for test prompts ( not graded), take a test with an essay portion.
Mccomb hands down one of my best professors, show up to class, understand the material, and do the optional reading/study guide. An A is guaranteedLOUIS
I've had her for Hist 175 and Hum 100. Both classes are essentially the same setup: three unit exams and a final. The first three exams have 40 multiple choice/t&f/matching questions and an essay. The essay questions are given ahead of time and she picks one to write about. The final is 50 multiple choice questions, non-cumulative. Offers EC.
I LOVED Professor McComb. Honestly, just show up and take notes on her lectures or record her lectures and you will pass. She's so inspirational and deeply devoted when she's teaching -- I absolutely would take this class again. She offers two extra credit opportunities (20 total points). No homework, 4 tests (1 is dropped). Def take her!
Great professor, really cares about the topic, enjoyed going to class. Class was pure lecture meaning have to pay attention and write down notes with a film every now and the. 4 test each with an essay question and a final. gives 4 choices of what the essay question might be for each test giving you a chance to study specifically what you need.
This woman is a passionate one so be ready for heafty lectures with minimal slides. She's a great teacher and is very engaging in the process but you must work for your grade. Get help, ask questions, and be there everyday -you won't want to miss a lecture. If you have a passion for humanities, she is definitely the professor to go with -very wise.
Her lectures follow her lecture outlines. The test is clearly based off of the study guide and the essay portion is clearly explained during lecture. She makes it very clear what she wants from you. She's extremely intelligent and respectful and engaging. Do the study guide, come to class, and take detailed notes, and you'll really enjoy the class.
basically go to class & write down all the things she says or read the chapters. She gives a study guide filled with questions from each chapter that she expects you to know for the multiple choice & she gives you 4 questions in which she will choose 1 for the essay portion. It's very clear cut what she expects & she's really passionate.
Only lectures the entire class period. Doesn't give notes- just talks and way too fast so no one can even write down or keep up with that she is saying. Would not take this class if you're looking for an easy A
This is not a super easy class, but it is possible to get a good grade. There's lots of lectures (so take good notes) and they are interesting. She has a great personality. Extra credit is available.
McComb teaches a really easy class, she doesn't give detailed notes they're mostly like bullet points and you have to write in what she talks about. So just pay attention and DO the study guides. Review your study guide and your in-class notes and you pass with minimum a B.
she is a great teacher, great lectures, and as long as you read the chapters before class you'll pass the class
Prof McComb is an excellent teacher. She's very passionate about history and how it all connects and relates to the present, and she will make you passionate about it too. She is very knowledgeable; she doesn't use slides or notes, all the information is in her head. It is a lot of notes to take, but the tests aren't very hard. She's also very kind
Her lectures are very important for notes and the study guides. 4 tests, 1 extra credit paper (recommended). She's very passionate and interactive with her students and wants to get her class engaged with the material. Be sure to read before coming to class. She loves students visiting her during office hours or if you ask questions.
I wish that I could give her a better rating. She's an awesome professor, but there are a few things that I dislike a lot. Firstly, the majority of the exam is from the textbook and not the lecture! Secondly, she engages the class, yet I find it very hard to stay focused during lecture. Lastly, lecture is sometimes not relevant for the exams.
First of all, she's an amazing professor. Out of all my classes, I think this has to be my favorite. Her lectures are rather interesting but you must listen actively and take good notes. Secondly, make sure to do the study guide! Everything on the study guide is fair game for the exams. If you're confused, ask her and she will gladly answer!
SHE IS THE BEST!! Her lectures are very interesting and you can tell she is passionate about history. Her tests are easy if you study well and do the study guide. Take her!!
Makes learning the material extremely enjoyable. Shes very knowledgeable and teaches off a lecture outline. Take notes, show up everyday, and take the exams and you will pass. 3 exams (40 multiple choice, One 20 point essay) essay prompt is chosen by her from 4 she provides to study from each exam. One 50 question final. TAKE HER!
She's great, very engaging.
She is so passionate about what she teaches and makes everyone laugh! Wonderful teacher, just pay attention in lecture!
She was one of the best educators I'v encountered in my life. She just stands in front of class and speaks 90 minutes. That's it. Enjoy lecture. If you wanted to get good grade and enjoyed the class, sit in forward seats, record every lecture, take notes and ask her question. If you study hard, there is strong possibility to get A.
Great human being, amazing class!!!
She only gives grades based upon your exams. No homework, just exams and one extra credit option. 50 questions multiple choice worth 80 points, 20 point essay.
Too much reading
She is by far the best teacher I've ever had before! Such an amazing person and teacher. So passionate about what she does and her lectures are AMAZING. I've learned so much and this class has opened my eyes to so many things! Heads up on the class: - Read and do the study guides, the only grade is based on 3 exams w/one EC opp.
Professor McComb is extremely passionate about history. The reading takes FOREVER and you HAVE to do it. But as long as you do the reading the tests are super easy. You only get graded on your exams, you take 3 exams and a final and she drops your lowest test score. Extra credit questions are constitutional amendments.
I went into this class thinking oh great just another GE class, but I was so wrong. Helen is an amazing teacher who makes all of her lectures so interesting because you can tell shes very passionate about what she is teaching. She gets everyone involved and no answer is a wrong answer. I was excited to go to each class, definitely take her!!!
For an international student like me, it was easy to get lost when the semester started because she lectured for the whole 90 minutes without any ppt or guideline. I visited her office to get some help and she was willing to help me succeed. Very caring, always have enthusiasm teaching.
WHAT IS the point of taking a class, pay for it, and showing up every session when we are supposed to read the 500-page heavy textbook ON our OWN! This is not fair. Lectures the whole class. talks too fast. cannot keep up with her. she assumes us as type machine or thinks we already know all the history by just reading the textbook.
An amazing professor, passionate and interacts well keeping class alive. Three tests and she drops the lowest one mainly studying outside of class to pass other than that never assigned homework. Loves what she does and cares a great amount for her students
ive never had a professor be so amazing at giving lectures. there are essay questions for every exam, but its not that hard and she makes history super interesting (and that's coming from someone that has always hated history classes)
she talks way too fast. shes a very overwhelming professor even though she is super passionate. she expects you to know all the history no matter what. class is based on all test, 100 points each. two extra credit opportunities only 10 points each.
No homework in this class, there are 3 exams plus the final. Out of the 3 midterms the lowest test score gets dropped. The study guides are super great.
I was taking two difficult classes so i only got a B but I am confident if I had been able to dedicate more time to the class I would have been able to get an A The professor is really passionate and interesting
