She was an awful teacher. Lots of kids dropped the class before I did. Started off with over 100, probably finished with around 30 or 40. Hard to understand her speaking.
She is an easy and good professor! I definitely recommend her! Almost guranteed a good grade.
Not too much to report. She isn't very difficult at all. The final was much harder than expected, considering everything that came before it was pretty easy. I took this class over the summer, so I'm sure it'd be easier during the fall or spring.
I am an economics major, and I love economics. She is very nice, but often makes things more confusing than they actually are. Her tests have strangely phrased questions, although they are overall very easy. Reading the book is much more useful than going to class.
Interesting class even if you are not an econ major
Never thought statistics can be this interesting and clear. If you don't like surprises, take this prof!
attend office hours! she is a big help. she leaves out a lot of stuff during lecture!
I took her for health economics (right now) and microeco. She is by far one of my most favorite professors I have had at UT. Very approchable and sweet. If you go to her office hours she will basically give you the answers to your problem sets. Do the practice tests and come to class for review days because its very helpful. Tests arent that hard
I have to admit that I started the semester before midterms with an average grade of 85% in the course. But before the final exam my average grade is 72% :/ The first 3 months of the semester the course looks pretty easy but it gets harder around midterms. She is really nice & really helpful, go to her office hours to get at least a B. Good teacher
VERY easy economics credit if you need one. Lectures won't mandatory and she posted notes online. She goes over sample tests before each exam, and I never even opened the book. Very simple and pretty interesting!
Very hard to understand, goes through notes way too fast, but she does post all her notes and sample exams.
Dr. Schneider does a very poor job of explaining material, and this course is quite difficult for a Intro to Economics course. I often struggled to learn the concepts because it was hard to understand her. All around, Econ is challenging at UT, but there has to be better professors than Dr. Schneider available. I would avoid.
Make sure to come to class and do all problem sets. Material is very interesting. Best eco class!! Learned so much about health care.
I really liked this professor. The only problem is that she has a thick German accent and grades pretty tough.
She is a nice lady. She does have a strong accent, but she tries her best at explaining everything. She gives sample exams before each test that are very helpful. The homework can be difficult so it's best to find a friend in the class to do it with. I would chose her class again over other Econ classes.
Dr. Schneider is a nice lady and approachable, but her lectures can be quite boring. The homework assigned in this class are difficult and somewhat long, but you get a week to do each of them so it's still manageable. Tests are tougher than the sample tests that she gives out before each test.
Attendance not mandatory but go to class for the notes if you want a good grade. Her lectures are clear and interesting. She's very nice and her teaching reminds me why I'm doing economics. Textbook not needed. If you're ok with attending each class, it's an easy course with a really great teacher.
Haha funny woman. Never talked to her. It's like pressing play on a youtube video and sitting there for 40 minutes. Non-interactive, boring kinda, but packed full of information you wanna take notes on. Honestly she makes the material very understandable, but I could def get by with just reading the textbook. Ily Helen.
The lectures aren't mandatory, but I would recommend going. You can get the bulk of the info from the textbook (very good book) or lecture slides(posted on canvas), but she does example problems during class that are often on the homework and tests. Before the tests she gives out the test from last year and goes over it. HW every other week. T
There is a textbook, but as long as you go to class you don't really need it (but reading it helps). She gives sample exams before each real exam, and about 7-8 problem sets for the whole semester, both of which help you prepare for the exam. As long as you show up, pay attention, do the homework, there is no reason to not get an A.
She goes kind of fast during her lectures so it might be hard to keep up. But she does upload all her powerpoints on canvas so it isn't too bad. Sometimes its really easy to get lost in what she's saying but reading the book helps a lot for what you miss in the class. She gives out sample exams too which are pretty much the test, good class take it
She is probably the easiest economics professor at the school. 2 test, problem sets (drops lowest one) and a final. She gives sample test that really help. The lectures are horribly boring but she post all her slides online so you don't have to pay attention or go. She does have an accent that can be kinda annoying but its not to bad.
THIIIIICK accent. you really have to pay attention hard to understand what she is saying. Material isnt that difficult if you dont fall behind.
Professor Schneider is really sweet, but I learned everything from the book. Her lectures are about as entertaining as watching grass grow. Although I think that because econ is just boring. In class, she'll either go over slides or do some example problems. Class is easy if you do the work and make sure you know the proper chapters of the book.
Schneider wasn't the most engaging prof ever, but she gave you everything you needed to do well, like posting answers to the homework and tests along with multiple practice tests.
Dr. Schneider is great at simplifying many of the topics covered in Micro. I noticed she followed the textbook closely, with reading and taking notes, the class became easier. If you do the work and listen to what she has to say, there should be no issues. She is straightforward with what to expect on exams and does not try to trick you.
Dr. Schneider is a great professor. My high school macroeconomics class was harder than her microeconomics class. To succeed in her class, you must be willing to do every problem set (6 in total) and read your textbook. If you only show up to every class, take notes, and do the problem sets you have a good chance of getting a B or above.
Probably the easiest macroeco teacher. Her lectures closely follow the book and she works out problems that you will probably see on either the problem sets or the test. Problem sets and tests are very straightforward and her TAs are helpful.
She posted answers to homework and exams online and gave our homework and exams back pretty quickly. There's two exams, a final exam, and 6 homework (one of them will be dropped). The textbook was really helpful and the edition really doesn't matter. She isn't the greatest lecturer but she knows her stuff. SI sessions by ESHAN were most helpful.
Prof. Schneider's lectures are long and boring and even though she uploads all of her lecture slides online, if you don't understand the concept, it's best you still attend class. The tests are do-able as long as you do the weekly assigned problem sets and read the textbook. A lot of studying has to be done in order to get a good grade.
Pretty typical professor. Reads straight off the slides, which are taken straight from the book. Teach yourself from the textbook. You can skip unless you're doing discussion problems in class - she takes some test questions from those in class problems. Very straightforward class. Genuinely nice woman whose lectures put me straight to sleep.
Overall not the worst econ professor. Lectures every class but not really necessary to show up. The textbook has all the information you need and the powerpoints are uploaded to canvas. The SI sessions every week by Jack were super useful. He covered all the material on the tests. Because of him the tests were extremely easy for me. Thank you Jack!
Schneider is such a great micro teacher! Her lectures are clear and helpful, and you can read the textbook to get a deeper understanding, but you dont have to. She gives a sample exam before each exam that really helps in studying, and problem sets every week or so that help as well! Definitely take her class to be successful in microecon!!
Schneider is a very nice lady! She has a thick accent, but her explanations are clear and she is open to questions. You can survive this class by only reading the textboox and studying the powerpoints, but I would suggest going to class because she clears up confusing terms. Plus, she makes her classes last only 30 to 40 minutes. Best micro teacher
very caring prof & clear grading policies. 6 homework grades, 2 tests, and a final. Very manageable but you have to work for it.
This is by far one of the easier if not the easiest Micro classes. Theres 2 tests, 1 Final, and 6 HWs (drops one). The only work is reading the textbook and maybe taking an hour tops to do each HW. The class is well run and straightforward, definitely recommend!
Professor Schneider is definitely the best micro professor. Problem sets are easy, tests are not hard, and her lectures aren't mandatory but they only last like 35-40 minutes usually. Study the problem sets, practice exams, and the lecture slides and an A is very much possible.
Helen is the best choice for micro, she is very clear on what she wants and teaches exactly whats on the test and TA's are helpful with homework. There were 2 midterms, 6 homeworks (drops lowest), and a final. The tests are extremely easy, and basically teaches by the book. Lectures drag on forever...
Dr. Schneider is knowledgeable and easily approachable. She teaches at a brisk pace, so I would recommend reading the chapters before each lecture. And yes, come to lecture. 1) You paid for it and 2) it's a good review of what you read. Keep up with the problem sets too. Overall, if you do the work you'll get the grade you want.
I love Professor Schneider because she cares and will take time after class if you need help figuring out something from her lectures. You have two lectures on Monday and Wednesday and a recitation period on Friday. Tests account for 85% of your grade, so they are important to study for. Overall, the class is super easy and I definitely recommend.
You really did not need to show up to class besides the days she has problems that are applicable to the homeworks. She makes study guides for the tests, and they are pretty much the same. Go to SI sessions because those REALLY help (thanks Jack), and you can make a decent grade by just reading the book. Lectures were a bit boring though.
have had better econ professors at community colleges... Hard to understand. Likes to speak fast. Very weird grading scheme where you can skip exams but not drop them?
As long as you show up and do the readings, which are short, this class is extremely easy. She's a great teacher, tries to make stupid jokes but sometimes funny. Lectures are very simple as long as you read prior.
Schneider is the best choice for Micro by far. Her grading is very clear unlike other sections of Micro, and she is very clear on what will be tested upon. Her problem sets are very doable, and she will check/explain it for you during office hours. She makes great study guides for tests, and it is very easy to succeed so long as you read
She was the professor in charge of the newly added writing flag part of the class. She posted the lecture notes online, which was handy because I often missed the writing lab part and they're good notes. She was quick at grading and provided valuable feedback.
Schneider is great. She is the best professor to take for Micro because she doesn't put a restriction on the number of people that can get A's which is what other professors do. My only complaint is I disliked the tests because they were short. For example, if you missed one true and false question you lost 10 points which sucks.
I learned absolutely everything by myself as the lectures are exactly the same as the textbook. The tests were very specific and not as easy as you would expect. Each test weighs a lot. There are true/ false questions on the test that are worth 10% each. If you miss one you can't get an A. Final was really hard to get A. Still better than others.
Highly recommend Dr. Schneider. You can tell she's been teaching this class for a while bc she accurately predicts where common mistakes occur and explains multiple times how to avoid them. Always passes back tests so you can see your mistakes. READ THE TEXTBOOK for in-depth knowledge; ATTEND LECTURES for main points and working problems as a class
Professor Schneider is the best microeconomics teacher at UT for sure. It's definitely not an easy A, but for the most part, she goes over all material well and as long as you pay attention and take notes you'll be fine. Try your best on Problem Sets to help boost your grade and review all practice exams and problems for discussion before exams.
Few ways to ace this class. #1 read textbook, go to TA sessions and Schneider office hours and if you still dont get it, god help you. #2 Read the textbook and then attend lectures bc she is a good lecturer (other comments accurate) #3 Just literally read the textbook and this is enough to ace the prob sets and test (for me at least) All 3 A's
Easy as long as you do the homework and practice tests. Attending SI sessions helps as well.
Not going to lie, I am not the best at economics, so I found this class pretty hard. Helen is supposed to be the best econ prof, but I just felt that she went really fast in lecture. 3 exams and 5 problem sets make up your grade, but if you need help with problem sets, definitely go to the TAs because they have the solutions and can help.
Did not have a hard time in this class. Schneider knows her stuff and the lectures are pretty engaging and helpful. Tests are pretty straightforward and usually draw from the problem sets. Go see the TAs for help with problem sets.
I'm not naturally super interested in economics, and I personally think her lectures were very boring. I rarely attended class. Even so, the class is very doable.
Class is very easy, The practice test that she posts on Canvas is pretty much the exact same thing as what is going to be on the test. The online homework via mindtap can be time-consuming but all of the solutions are on Chegg. Lectures are close to useless as it is hard to understand her voice, I didn't go to class past the second week and aced it
This class was overall pretty easy. Read the textbook before class, show up and watch her do the examples, do the homework, and the you will succeed in this class. The exams are very similar to problems from class and she does give out practice exams that are very good practice. I would recommend taking Professor Schneider for microeconomics.
Helen has an accent that took me a few classes to get used to, but her lectures were working through sample problems and explaining the topic; super helpful. I hated economics but she makes it manageable. Textbook not needed. Only 2 midterms and one final which she posts reviews for and are very helpful. Sweet person and easy professor. Recommend!!
One of the easier Econ classes, tests are not super easy though and are worth a lot, only two midterms. Knows her stuff, and will always answer questions. If you do homework, read the textbook, go over her slides, and go to class you should be ok.
Helen was my least favorite professor at UT. Her lectures were dull and painful to sit through. Went to her office once, just for her to ignore me.
If you decide to go to class, make sure you sit in the front because otherwise it's impossible to hear her. Tests make up the majority of your grade. No need to read the textbook if you go to class, but get it since it's used for homework. Pretty obvious she knows her stuff, and she seems nice.
Read the chapter in the textbook, show up to class, take notes and do her worksheets, do your homework, ask friends or her your questions, and you will do fine. Some units are definitely confusing but if you seek help you will be fine.
The majority of the class comes from the textbook. If you read the textbook and do the homework, you will not need to attend lectures. There are two midterms and one final. As long as you study the textbook and do the practice exams that Schneider posts, you will get the grade you want.
Everything I learned in this class was from reading the textbook. In class, she just summarizes textbook, which isn't enough for the test and also makes lectures redundant. Hard to hear if sitting in back of class. Exams are average in difficulty, but easy if you make sure you understand the material before the test.
best prof EVER. test are super straightforward. gives practice exams as reviews and explains each question in detail. online homework helps boost your grade a little, but is nothing like the exam. office hours help a lot. if you do the work on the review and take decent notes, you should be fine. go to lecture, she tells you whats on the exam.
I thought it was super hard. I studied a lot but never seem to get it. I went to every lecture and still left confused. I read the textbook all the time but it was hard. I think I'm just not good at econ. The class is SUPER test heavy. If you bomb an exam, good luck trying to get your grade back up.
Her lectures were painful to sit through. The content itself wasnt difficult, but the wording on the tests could be confusing at times. Overall, very disappointing...
Flipped classroom, which I enjoyed as they kept lecture from being too boring. Tests are multiple choice and free response. 2 midterms, a final and homework make up your grade. Reading the textbook helped me a lot as well. Shes a very sweet lady :)
Doesn't provide much relevant feedback on paper assignments and takes off many points for simple mistakes. Poor communication on expectations for essays and inflexible with office hours.
She was a good professor. Tests were okay and there was plenty of review material for them. Test questions are in the same format as lecture questions. I could've gotten an A if I had gotten one of my tests corrected because the TA graded it incorrectly.
Really good economics class. Lectures aren't mandatory but you need to go if you want a high grade because you do worksheet problems that will be on the exam. Exams are very straightforward and easy if you pay attention and read the textbook. Schneider was always able to answer questions and explain things clearly so I would recommend her class.
Aside from weekly homeworks which were annoying, this class is great. Dr. Schneider wants her students to do well, her exams really are not too difficult. There are only two exams and a final so if you don't study much for one exam it can really mess up your final grade. The textbook is helpful and homework answers can be found online.
I took this class purely online. The textbook is online and expensive. Homework is long and tedious, but helpful. The lectures are pretty helpful. The class is overall okay, but she is def the best micro teacher youll get
HW is from the textbook, and the answers can be found online. There are 2 midterms and 1 final. She is easy to contact, and she explained all the concepts very well and thoroughly. Take her if you have a chance!!!
Worst college class I have ever taken. This professor doesn't teach well at all and she graded my midterm test wrong. I had to go to her office hours and get it fixed which was a hassle. You would think college professors know how to grade by now. Stay away from this class, its horrible.
I really enjoyed Mrs. Schneider as a professor. She was very organized as an online course. Not super accessible, however. ECO 304K is challenging, however, and it's not easy to get an A+.
ECO 304K with Dr. Schneider was such an enjoyable class. My favorite class this past semester. The homework assignments can get tedious, and can seem to drag on forever, but the midterms were fairly easy, for the most part. The final was difficult - it was cumulative. Dr. Schneider did not want to give her students any extra stress, very doable.
3 exams make up a huge chunk of your grade, so doing poorly on one will break your grade. All material comes straight from the book, and lectures are boing, but she covers all material that shows up on tests. First two were relatively easy exams, but the final caught me by surprise. Definitely watch her exam reviews.
This class is alright, pretty boring, and not an easy A. If you want to do well, you have to read the textbook, do the hw, and study for the exams. First two midterms are not too bad, they are very similar to the handouts she goes over in lectures. However the final is significantly harder and I recommend preparing well in advance. No extra credit.
Barely got an A because I messed up one test but got As on the other 2. Very test heavy so make sure you take them seriously. Textbook homeworks were super easy. I was busy last semester and found myself skipping her lectures; but you really should watch them because she explains well and has useful examples.
The instructor is such a good teacher and I loved the content of the course. Every day had something interesting and was full of substance. The homework was pretty easy except the major writing assignments were graded tough. The professor's attitude made me not really want to go to office hours when I needed it.
Long paper and short paper are the only two assignments for the lab, and she does a great job explaining concepts/what is expected of the papers. The final draft is graded much harder than the other drafts for some reason, and the TA graded a lot tougher than her. Not a lot of work for the lab portion of econometrics if you just follow the lecture.
DONT TAKE HER COURSE
ECON441k is split 65% and 35% between lecture and lab. The lecture is covered by another professor so I will just talk about my experience with the lab. To be honest, it was intimidating at first when she showed us the calendar but the papers are so easy. They all follow an obvious formula and she gives sufficient examples to help guide you.
Dr. Schneider is a gem! I got a B cause I was a lazy senior but she was so nice and was always available to offer help on our papers for econometrics.
Dr. Schneider was a great economics professor. Took it as a summer course, so I had to write a lot for a small period of time. Emailing her about your essay and problem set is the best thing you can do! Start thinking about your topic early. Textbook is super helpful but not needed. She will be honest, but you can expect to get a better grade.
Unbelievably quick to respond to emails, lectures and expectations are very straight forward. Fair grading for the papers just make sure you cover all grading criteria well. Sometimes got lost during her Lab sessions but just ask her and she'll clarify. Very solid and I always knew what I needed to do to do well.
GG on the papers
Decent course for developing your formal writing skills. Replies to email relatively fast. You'll want to submit all papers on time (although it's a flat late 10% penalty) because all late submissions are graded by the professor (more strict). Sometimes the TAs might take off something that the professor said we had to include...
Professor Schneider taught the writing portion of Econometrics. She does a great job making her expectations clear and has the quickest average email response time I've ever seen a professor have. She also grades papers quickly (sometimes the day after submission), though if the TA grades it will not be the same. Go to office hours, she is helpful.
Public Econ is easily my favorite course I've taken at UT. Dr. Schneider has experience teaching the class and does a fantastic job. 50% of the grade is writing but don't let it scare you, it's not that hard (exams are difficult though). She can be crass at times, but she is not a mean person as long as you show that you paid attention in class.
Had her for the lab section of my 441K class. We essentially work through and write the final paper throughout the semester, and by the end we're just touching up on it before submitting. Incredibly easy if you don't get behind and write all of it before its due. Takes any late work for a -10 as late as is within reason. Graded easily, I thought.
Follow the rubrics and you'll get a good grade. People who did bad in writing just ChatGPT'd everything and didn't bother reading the slides telling you what you need to do for the assignments.
Helen was okay, she teaches the lab portion of 441K. Sometimes hard to understand her and isn't always clear about what she wants in regards to the papers. But, if you follow her feedback and ask for clarification, you'll do fine. Not a bad professor. Also beware of TA's being harsh on grading. If this happens, go straight to Helen for a regrade
Helen teaches the lab aspect of 441k. The whole semester you are building upon ONE research paper, with one short paper due at the beginning to prep you for the research paper. If you fail the lab you will fail the lecture as well as it holds more weight. The TA's and Helen give really good feedback on the papers.
