She is very boring, and keeps student until the last minute of class, some times even more. you dont need a book for the class. everything is in moodle. only study moodle for the test nothing else. 3 test, 4 quiz, 4 hW. she dosent curve the grade at the end at all. I worked very hard but made a 3.4

Very nice woman. Tried really hard to get people interested. Sometimes rambled when it wasn't necessary. Homework is relatively easy, and all notes were posted on moodle. I attended class 75% of the time and got a 3.1. Good class.

Mrs Riha is very passionate about linguistics. Altough the concepts are hard at first, the class is overall very easy. She is strict on leaving early. The homeworks are all online and taken almost directly from the powerpoint slides. The Exams are not hard either. If you do not want to take a foreign language and need the gen ed. Take this!!!

and clearly puts in a lot of time and thought into her lectures. The class and concepts are very easy to understand. You don't need the book for this class, just attend every lecture. I never take notes in this class and I currently have a 4.0.

She is a great teacher. She is well prepared and made the topics as interesting as possible. She does post the notes but adds bits during her lecture and they do show up on tests. Do the homework, show up to class, take notes and you will pass the class.

An easy class. She posts EVERYTHING online. She is very clear and repeats her points a lot, which gets annoying, but it sticks. Lots of extra credit, exams aren't hard if you do the hw and practice quiz's and study them. Not a big deal to miss class, just go over powerpoints. I cracked the book maybe twice, and got an A.

Professor Riha really enjoys Lingustics, and I think she often thought we all did. Her class was pretty easy, although the tests do require paying attention in class. She gets mad at people who leave class early and compares us to Ohio State, but overall she's interesting. Watch out - she marvels at YouTube videos. Textbook is NOT necessary!

Very fair teacher. She cares about your grade & understanding of subject. Don't bother buying the book. PPT is online-use it for tests, but you must go to class to get the extras she puts on tests. Great teacher, take her, get a good grade w/a fair effort.

PAINFULLY Boring. Spends 30 minutes per powerpoint slide. Over-explains everything! Makes 2 hours feel like 4 hours! Mandatory Attendance (affects grading.) No laptops. Uses 100% of class time, EVERY session. Very kind & passionate though. Easy class, but just too boring to recommend. Trust me on this!

Riha was a great teacher although she was some what crazy about the class time. She NEVER lets you out early, not even an minute!! its insane, but overall i learned alot witht his class. This class was the only class i would actually pay attenion in. SHe is very passionate about what she does. DON'T BUY THE BOOK, you never never use it!

Soooo boring! She never lets you out of class even a second early. She's really nice though and if you pay attention in class (drink lots of coffee) it makes the assignments very easy.

Althought this is a boring class its easy and you learn alot. Don't buy the book you never use it. In order to pass the test all you have to study is the homework and the practice quizzes. She take most of the test questions from there. You do have to be in class to get practice quizzes and attendance is required or is affects your grade. Take her!

She is such a sweet lady! Her class was easy if you went to class and took notes (from the power points). Her quiz's were directly from the notes. Same with the tests. Her surveys were actually fun too. I liked the class and thought she made it really interesting.

Dr. Riha is quite an impressive professor. Bilingual and very knowledgeable in her craft. I highly recommend taking her ALS 176 course.

Tests come straight from the power points she gives. DO NOT buy the book, we never used it. Some homework assignments, and in class assignments as well. She does offer lots of extra credit though. Attendance is mandatory for credit! She enjoys what she teaches and tries to be funny. She'll call u out if u disrupt her class.

She was great, very knowledgeable, a little OCD. There was a homework assignment about every week, which was easy if you listened in class but difficult if you didnt, and her tests included were as detailed as her lectures. I plan to take her again.

I took this online and it was a lot of work. VERY long quizzes each week and sometimes an essay too. It would take me forever to complete. You get 4 attempts on quizzes, which seems easy. If you manage to get one part of a question wrong though, it can lower your grade quite a bit. It was a pain, I should have probably just taken it in person.

Very clear instructor. The quizzes are tediously long, but not difficult in the least. She is organized and very knowledgeable. Answers e-mails thoroughly, and within a day. The material is interesting and never dry.

Insane amounts of homework! I worked my a$$ off, but it was intellectually stimulating. She puts a lot of thought and energy into lesson prep, and she spends a lot of time considering her students' intellectual needs and interests. Very thorough. Great prof.

This felt like a busy work class. It was interesting and there is a quiz every week. However, the questions are right from the book, it is not timed, and you get four attempts per quiz. This was a low stress class that didn't take up a ton of time. Professor responded to my emails and our final exam was reaction style paper.

Dr. Riha is one of the best professors I've had at OU. She isn't an easy grader which I totally respect her for. She made me work hard for my A. The lectures were very interesting. Show up, don't be late, do the work and don't make excuses.

Professor Riha is great. You have to go to class, many test questions come from examples discussed in class! She is very thorough with her explanations and very clear about what is expected. Multiple extra credit opportunities. She might seem dry at first, but I enjoyed her sense of humor

Either you'll skip because you don't want to sit through long, boring lectures or you'll go and zone out. The subject matter isn't hard and she's very clear with instructions, always answers emails. She can be nice but gets annoyed very easily. Many questions on tests come from examples in class which you wont get if you skip. Noncumulative final.

This prof is VERY skilled in her field and highly knowledgeable. If you don't have even a sliver of work ethic- don't take her class. If you are capable of hard work- you will be fine in her class. She encourages students to genuinely find some kind of interest with the topics. Always offers EC. She might be old fashioned but she is an A+ prof.

Took it online and overall it was pretty easy. There's like 2 quizzes each week, usually from the book. They can be very time consuming but questions are usually in order of the text. The final was a paper based on a documentary. I took it for knowledge application and I'm glad I did.

Honestly you have to work for your grade but I LOVED HER! She's so damn smart and knows everything about her field of study. Relaxed chill class, just take notes and memorize your notes to pass. I got an easy A only because I turned in all of her worksheets. A five year old can do the work she gives out but its just annoying because she gives alot

Dr. Riha is great, u just need to be willing to do the work. There'll be a lot of notes, TAKE GOOD NOTES!!! She will give about 5 or 7 extra credits. If you don't understand something talk to her, she goes above and beyond to ensure that you learn the material. I failed because I didn't really attend class like i should have & I skipped the final.

Very organized and specific with instructions. Class only demands a few hours a week from you which is nice and convenient, sometimes gives fun assignments. Follow directions and you should be all good.

I took this as an online class. Dr. Riha is very clear on what she expects from you and gives good feedback. The class is made up of weekly online quizzes, with questions taken straight from the textbook, so as long as you read and have the textbook with you, you will be fine. Quizzes took anywhere from 30 mins to over 2 hours.

There is a lot of info covered in this class which means its fairly fast-paced, so make sure you're prepared and pay attention. The exams are long and she doesn't give the full class time to complete them, so make sure you know the stuff. After each unit she gives opportunity for extra credit which is basically another homework assignment; do them.

Dr. Riha is amazing, she definitely knows what she is talking about. Most of the topics were interesting but if you don't like reading (or at least skimming for answers in the book) I wouldn't take this class specifically. Great material, not many assignments overall (like 1 a week).

Maybe I lucked out by having Prof Riha online, but I cannot begin to say enough good things about her. I took this class with a different professor and had to drop it. I was nervous to try and take the class again but Prof Riha was amazing and blew my expectations through the roof. I learned so much in this class and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I thought this class was great. You cant just slide by and get an A, there is a lot of reading and quizzes to go along with it each week. I really enjoyed the reading though. The quizzes take some time, I spent hours doing each one, but they are very informative. The professor provides good feedback.

Good professor and had a very organized Moodle page which was nice, but her requirements for essays/quizzes and grading are SUPER rigid & annoying. Some quiz questions seem irrelevant or have hard to find answers which were SO time consuming. This class was fine online, but if it's in person, TAKE SOMEONE ELSE based on the reviews here

I took this class online and am confused about the negative comments I see here for in real life. Quizzes every week but they are open book and do take awhile since some questions are tricky. There is no final exam just an essay. Make sure you follow her format directions, she will take points off if you don't. Not too hard, and learned a lot.

Dr. Riha is a fantastic professor, I would even say she's one of my favorites. She offers a lot of extra credit and she's a very kind person who really seems to care about her students. This class is super easy if you take good notes and pay attention in class. I took this class for a gen ed credit and I'm really glad I picked her class. 10/10!

Dr. Riha was amazing, clear criteria, test weren't that bad at all. This was a fun, interesting class. I received a fair grade because I didn't give the class my all, but if I did, I know I could've did better, just do the readings and pay attention to the videos she has you watch and you'll pass.
