Professor knew his stuff but exams were very hard. Open book tests; however you really need to know EVERYTHING or else you will not do so well. Most of class was pretty unhappy with test, not a single person finished early. Had to drop class, normally good grades but... If you're really into biology (major) you might like it and learn alot.

Very Boring! Tests were extremely hard. I had to do every bit of extra credit in his class just to pull off a low B. And just for the record he doesn't usually give extra credit. The good was that there was no written homework and he knew the material very well. I wouldn't take another class with this professor!

professor was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Difficult class but worthwhile, labs are SO easy! biology is hard anyway, so taking Kae would probably be your best bet anyway. It's all about the EXAMS. open book but know your stuff or you are done!

The prof is such a nice guy. He's always there to help if you need it. The course is a bit tough but when is school easy? All these other students complain about the work and the exams, but it's not highschool anymore. Most of my classmates aren't even all there on most days! I wonder why they're getting a low mark.

This is a difficult class, but the professor is a really nice guy happy to help. The tests are based on the material on the power points, so you need to be in class, even though attendance is not necessary. Have a study group to do the online quizzes with. STUDY! There is a ridiculous amount of info to know. It is possible to do well though!

Great teacher he is super cool and like to have fun. Although we do have a test everyday. Overall he is cool and more then willing to help. To all those students who don't care for him I have a question are you doing the work are expect the class to be cruz.... if you want to learn this is the class for you..

Brah..i guess its just me but his class is killah. Don't get me wrong, great and cool professor! But exams are small kine hard. Quizzes practically every weekend, but its all online so its open book. Just gotta study study study, print out chapter notes and study in groups. If you can handle you can pass sure thing.

Dr. Kae is a really great professor! His class is a challenge, but it's totally worth all the work you put in. 6 quizzes, a prequiz before every lab, some lab assessments and a project at the end. He challenges his students to prepare them for higher level classes. Extremely helpful & really nice. You'll really enjoy his class! Highly recommended!

I took MICRo130 online and recommend. Power points help a lot. Quizzes and asignments every week helps with points and to prepare for exams.

Definitely a very difficult class. Tests are really really hard and you must must must study the notes like crazy. Although the material is very hard, Professor Kae is a very understanding man who wants you to pass. Gives you many opportunities to pass his class and is a very nice teacher who will help you out as much as possible when needed.

Helmut is a very helpful teacher who cares about his students' success. He provides all of the necessary tools needed to help you get the most out of Microbiology. I have a better understanding of microbiology now. I appreciate science more.

Seriously one of the best professors I've ever had. He is attentive and dosent make you feel bad if you dont understand-take my word for it and ask questions if you don't understand something he is willing to take the time to break things down so that you will understand. He wants you to learn, but getting an A is up to you.Take his lab too!

His class is not the easiest one at LCC. Getting an A is not hard. His exams were hard, but he gave out so many opportunity to make up as extra credit or makeup exams.If you think this class is hard, don't think about taking any chemistry at LCC.

He is awesome! He is always available whenever you have questions. For everyone who's been complaining about how hard it is it's because you guys can't even spell! (I thought there were requirements to get into post-secondary education). As long as you try hard this class isn't hard at all. I wish all my teachers were like him.

I took him during the summer and he covered a lot, but at the same time I learned a lot. Great teacher, really knows his stuff and always willing to help if you ask. I recommend taking his class if you want to learn but you can't get lazy. I am excited to take his MICRO 140 lab in fall.

Very helpful, answers any question you may have but you have to voice them. He won't answer your questions if your quiet, his class requires class discussion. Don't be afraid to speak.

i've taken 3 different subjects in 3 different semesters. i like his class. even though his material is sometimes hard, he pushes you to be a better student.

I had both his lecture and lab class. He was a great teacher.I honestly used my textbook once and that was the lecture I missed.My advice is to be sure and go to all the classes lecture and lab, and print out the lecture notes ahead of time. Ask questions because if you don't get it he will explain it until you do. And the lab is really fun!

Hes a cool guy. He wants you to talk during the lectures (about the topic) and participate so it won't be him talking all the time. His exams are a bit tricky but he does a great job covering it all.

the best and yes he's hot. I think he is married though. but his class is very easy you just need to know in lab the what, why and how

He is a chill teacher ! i recommend that you take me. He makes the class fun and entertaining. Quizzes are actually easy and he's hot :) i would take his class again !

Took the online course during the summer. Very intensive. I BARELY touched the textbook. 99.5% of the studying can be done from his powerpoints/fill-in notes. Be sure to stay on top of the online homework and class discussions. His exams come straight from the quizzes. Quizzes can be done at home, exams taken at the test centers. I got an A+

Kae teaches Microbiology in an organized manner. He has fill in the blank notes that you can print online and uses powerpoint slides to teach the concepts. He also has external sites to visit that will help you understand better too! MICR is a hard subject, but if you are up to date and study well, you'll pass easily! I can't wait for micr140! :)

i have mr.kae for lecture and lab and he's the best. micr isn't an easy class to begin with, but he makes everything clear and he's very approachable. you learn a lot! definitely recommend.

AWESOME teacher! knows what hes talking about. Attendance isn't mandatory but is recommended. Fill in the blank notes. Power points he lectures from in class are posted online. Open book & notes for tests online. One group project at the end of the semester. I RECOMMEND THIS TEACHER! I've learned a lot from this class!

Kae is very knowledgeable and approachable. Cares a lot about his students and their success. Micr is a tough subject to begin with, but Kae makes it better to understand. Really enjoyed his lab. Definitely recommend!

He is such a great professor. Microbiology is already a hard subject as it is but really breaks it down so that it is easier to understand. I recommend you read the lab beforehand so that you can do well on the lab pre-quizzes. Only two projects to do at the end but it's both group work. Put in the effort & you'll do fine :)

Took him last sem for micr130 and this sem for micr140, I'm glad I did. He is passionate about teaching the subject and is willing to explain when there are questions. Lab is FUN! Seriously just make sure you read chapter because at beginning of class has a 5question quiz about it, easy. Definitely recommend this professor for both 130 and 140, GL!

GREAT MICROBIOLOGY TEACHER. his lecture class is hard to me because he goes really fast & his tests/exmas are consisted of like 3-4 chapters.but* if you do well on his hw,its easy points.I WOULD REALLY RECOMMEND HIM!i suggest take good notes in his class, use class materials, and ask questions.then your set(: GARENTEED TO LEARN ALOT!

Awesome teacher. Your grade is based on your performance in his class. Exams were easy and based off his lectures. He's pretty straight forward about what he expects from you. Recommended for Micro lab.

Awesome teacher! Mr. Kae is very knowlegeable about this subject. Very helpful when questions are asked and gets other students involved when someone has a question. It's not an easy class especially when taken online. I would recommend you go into class because there's a lot to comprehend especially when it comes to Exams. All I can say is STUDY!

I took him summer online. The class is very difficult but i managed to get an A+. He is VERY helpful and answers your questions quickly. He is the BEST online teacher i've had. He has powerpoints online and has recorded lectures as well. He seems genuine in wanting everyone to learn. You don't need the textbook he provides everything online.

Tough subject, getting an A. BEST online teacher EVER: narrated PPT lectures, notes, super helpful, reachable. Weekly home quizzes. Keep good notes, it will help with open book exams (4). Finish group projects early - there are 3 parts & ample time. Check site regularly for discussion credits. Like being in class, at your convenience!!

His lectures were interesting but a little difficult to understand because of the content. This class takes some studying to pass with a good grade. All tests are multiple choice but there are 12 and 4 exams! Doctor Kea is a great teacher!!!

I took his Micro 130 a few years ago. His class is not hard and I got an A. What I like about his class is that he is the one of the best teacher who always find time to help his students. You won't regret. He is the nicest and knowlegeable teacher.

Took the online class. Don't need the book. Not a cruise class. Prof Kae has all your resources on Laulima. Just listen CAREFULLY to the lectures and fill out the printable worksheets. Exams are all open book. Dr. Kae couldn't make this class anymore smoother for students to learn. Highly recommended!

BEST LAB CLASS!! Dr. Kae is really good professor! Pre quiz for each class but very helpful for labs. Dr. Kae is very helpful and easy to connect with. Take his class!!!

You dont need the book. Save the quiz questions after every try there are 3 tries to get 40/40 score. Also the quizes and tests are all online so you shouldn't fail. I never took notes because its a waste of paper. The lectures are boring and he takes attendance once in a while for extra credit.

Prof Kae is probably the best online teacher there is. I recommend that you take his class. he is awesome. You are going to learn so much in his class. It's hard work, but it's all worth it.

This online class is good because it's very organized. But it took me a while to get familiar with what I needed to do online. I always forgot to do the discussions which is important for extra points because it adds up. It effected me at the end because instead of getting an A, I got a B+. Take this class!

This lab was challenging to me at one point but Dr. Kae really pushed me and encouraged me. He is an awesome professor. Not all of the material is easy unless you really focus and study. But it's definitely possible to get a good grade. He definitely cares about his students! Just show the effort and he is always there to help if you want it.

Very hard subject. Professor Kae is an awesome teacher. Makes it easy to understand the material. But there's a lot to remember. Offers extra credit. Work hard and you'll succeed. Three attempts to take each chapter quiz. But 1 try for the exam. All quizzes and exams are online. Use the discussion board for help. It's worth it.

The subject was really difficult for me but Dr. Kae still managed to make it mostly understandable. I definitely recommend his online class if you have to take a science requirement. He offers tasks that you can do well at if you try.

Dr. Kae is AWESOME. I just knew at the beginning of the semester I was going to bomb this class but I quickly realized he sets you up for success. 3 attempts for quizzes and he'll take highest score, exams straight from quizzes, and he offers plenty extra credit. Hold yourself accountable and you'll be fine. Oh and I bombed with an A!

Part of the reason I took Dr. Kae's class is because of the reviews here. And still, the reviews don't do him justice. Dr. Kae is an amazing prof, always prepared, helpful, and passionate. He cares about students (which is rare). In my opinion he meets you more than halfway, just do your part. Thought his class was easy and fun! I love science!

Dr.Kae is an awesome teacher i was absent a lot due to personal issues i don't even know how i even passed. he gives lot of extra credit and he cares so much about making class a fun environment for us to learn in. I highly recommend Dr. Kae for Micro 140 lab.

Awesome!!! do yourself a favor and take Dr. Kae He holds you accountable but assures that you have every opportunity to do well. You need to put in some effort and study for quizzes, at least in the beginning, but you'll have fun and learn a lot.

To be honest, after the first day of class, I really thought I was going to hate his class because he came off intimidating. But after that day, I realized how AWESOME he is! Everything he taught us was so beneficial in real life. He's a trouble maker, which keeps us laughing every class. He gives A LOT of extra credit! Greatest class ever!

Professor Kae is by far the best teacher i have had ever! Microbiology is NOT an easy subject but professor Kae teaches it very well. Study for all the tests and make sure you come to class and take notes! I LOVED the lab. Very minimal amount of work but the material is challenging. DEFINITELY recommend these classes and professor Kae!

After day one of both classes I seriously was thinking I am dropping this class. I stuck it out a couple classes and by far the best choice I made. Dr. Kae is by far the best professor I have encountered to date. He cares, he holds you accountable, and he gives you every opportunity to get an A.

He makes Microbiology easy to understand. He gives extra credit opportunities. He's really nice and has jokes here and there. Three chances each for online quizzes. Not too many homework and goes over the answers in class for a few of them. Turn it in for credit. Three part group project, more than enough time to complete. Didn't find him hot haha

Professor Kae's Class was Bomb! Best class I have taken, but labs can be difficult if you do not read the Chapter the night before. He tries his best to make things clear for you.

Dr. Kae is a great professor. This was for the Micro lab, which I was scared to take. He made it fun, and I learned a lot. Definitely take Dr. Kae for this class.

Took it online. No extra credit but the exams and quizzes are pretty fair. The final is not cumulative which is amazing! There is one individual project and as long as you put time and effort into it, he grades pretty fairly. Quizzes weekly, no hw. Both quizzes and exams are pretty much based of the power point slides. Highly recommend.

He assigns a lot of quizzes, participation is highly recommended so you have an understanding of what's going on. Overall, he works hard to explain the subject so that it is easy to understand.

Dr. Kae is really helpful and works hard in order for his students to understand the material. He gives a lot of quizzes and exams are fairly easy.

If you get the chance to take Dr. Kae, DO IT!! He's an awesome instructor that relates the material to things you already know and can remember. There is a 3 part group project, but it's not hard at all. He is very clear on his expectations, and you have multiple times to pass quizzes online. Very fair, easy to pass if you show up and participate.

If you need a science credit, take it with Dr. Kae! If I could, I would take another class with him. I've never come across a professor who gives as many opportunities to get that A. Took this course in summer 2015. It was tough, but his explanations for this class were crystal clear. Quizzes & Exams are open note, but it definitely helps to study!

Dr. Kae is a great teacher. His online class for MICR130 is pretty simple, given that you do the work. There are weekly modules and quizzes that need to be done on time. There is also one group project. This class taught me a lot!

Helmut is as fun as his name. I learned a lot from his class and would recommend it to anyone who wants to take a good science class. I learned more from Dr. Kae than all my high school science teachers combined.

I was kind of skeptical of taking this online class, but I am glad I did! Lectures are in narrated videos, or you have an option of non-narrated lectures. There is a good amount of extra credits, and a group project! (not hard at all). You have couple chances to do quizzes. Exams are hard but easy if you study! (open notes**). Best professor ever!

Dr. Kae is one of my fave professors! His lab class was fun and interesting. In a nutshell: every lab/class there is a pre quiz, so read the SHORT chapters before class (worth few points, they do add up), about 6 quizzes (everything in quiz is in his lectures), records lectures for students, one group project (easy), gives extra credits!

My first experience with Micro was horrible. This time around I was worried that I would struggle with an ONLINE MICRO course. This guy is the bee's' knees. Responds promptly with your questions (go through the syllabus first, then ask), majority of easy points are in class discussion. Make sure you do it! Slackers will struggle.

Mistah is da coolest. Quizzes come from web answers, so search for answers to questions . Tests come from quiz questions from everyone's quizzes, so create 2 docs, 1 for questions and 1 for correct answers, then e-mail your classmates to send you their questions/answers and memorize these over and over again. HAHA!! Went from a "D" to "B+".

Professor Kae is my favorite professor. I loved his lessons; his lectures were always made easy to understand with tables, graphs, or diagrams. There was a quiz every class, but totally easy as long as you studied. If you're reading this professor, you actually cheered me up from some pretty depressing days. Thanks for being so genuine.

I was apart of Dr. Kay's group over the summer for INBRE research. I cannot recommend this program enough, especially for Biology majors. Dr. Kae is so passionate, he really sparked my interest in research. Dr. Kae is great in the fact he won't hold your hand, so you really get to run the research project. It's a great experience!

He's a really good Lab professor (haven't had him for lecture) His quizzes are a little bit tough but if you read the labs you should be fine. He explains the labs really well.

Professor Kae is the best! His online lectures are great and the audio recordings is clear and easy to follow. He responds to emails quickly, and he let me use a textbook from 2009, instead of requiring a brand new edition. There is 1 group project that you MUST participate in. Put in the time (2-3hrs/week) and you will get an A+.

One of the best professors I've ever had. He's down to earth and really cares for his students. His lectures are easy to understand and he breaks complex concepts down to a basic level. It's an easy A if you show up, pay attention, and do well on his quizzes (pretty easy). I took his Microbio lab class and you don't need to buy a textbook.

This was one of my all-time favorite classes. You have to study for his 6 quizzes and show up for class, but there are no surprises! If you don't get an A+, you can't blame anybody but yourself. The labs are fun and the information is relatable so it's not a boring class at all. Prof. Kae is always available if you need help or extra lab time.

One of the best professors I've ever had. Participation is key to success. Really engages students, great video lectures, fair quizzes and exams and ample extra credits opportunities. He teaches more than just Microbiology, he shares life knowledge which is actually application in post-college life. I highly recommend.

Best teacher I ever had! His 130 online class was very straight forward and easy to get an A in. For his 140 Lab, I recommend that you don't skip class due to his pre quizzes he gives out before you do your labs. The quizzes add up so read up on the lab before you go in. He's very generous with extra credit so take full advantage of that.

I took his class online and it was the best decision even though I'm not an online learner. He has recorded lecture slides which are easy to follow along with study notes & help with the quizzes and exams. He lets you take quizzes 3 times so you have opportunity for full credit. Projects are easy and his tests are questions from the quizzes.

Dr. Kae is AMAZING! His passion for microbiology is evident in the way he conducts his class. He is a very knowledgeable professor and makes the content easily digestible. His class was so much fun that I couldn't wait to go to his labs, he has definitely ignited my love for bacteria! LOL The exams are not difficult if you attend class and study.

if you need to take mirco 130 course, take it with dr. kae. he is great! he is very organized in his notes, videos, and ppt slides. weekly quizes, but you have 3 tries to take them, he takes the highest score group project which is very doable 4 exams, 75 percent they are based off the weekly quizzes. 25 percent on the ppt

His lectures are good and made the material easy to understand. He gives you lecture notes that you just have to fill in the blank as you watch the lecture. Quizzes can be taken 3 times with best score taken. Exams are from the same questions as the quizzes so best to take quizzes 3 times to see as many questions as you can. Lots of extra credit.

Dr. Kae is hands down one of the best professors I've had throughout my whole college education. He's hilarious and makes Microbiology interesting. Lots of extra credit opportunities are given so take advantage of that!! Always there to help if there are any questions. I highly reccomend taking his lecture and lab! You'll learn a lot!!

Dr. Kae was AWESOME! His lectures are fun and informative. The class was at your own pace so I managed to finish it in 2.5 weeks (during the summer). His extra credit assignments are also fun and motivational. All quiz questions come from the lectures so there is no need to read the book and exam questions are pulled from from the quizzes.

Dr. Kae is an AMAZING professor. I took his online class and it was very organize. He makes his lectures interesting to listen to because of his natural humor. He cares about his students a lot and he is always there to help. I HIGHLY recommend him!!!!

Dr. Kae is amazing! As long as you do the work and put in the effort, you'll pass the class with an A. The best part about him is that he really cares about what you personally learn about yourself in the course. The class is online but you are required to take 4 exams at the testing center. Very interesting course with good lectures provided.

This is my second time taking microbiology and I can tell you that he is the best microbiology teacher to take. He posts his lecture online, so no textbook was used. Lectures were very informative. He has fill in blanks to take notes and you don't have to do it, but it prepares you for the exam! He also gives lots of extra credit opportunities!

I really enjoyed taking microbiology lab with dr Kae. He was funny and made sure you understood what you were doing during lab and why. Not just doing it just because. Grading can be a little tough, every day at the beginning of class is a quiz which is based on the lab for the day. Just make sure you read a lot and pay attention to his lectures.

Dr. Kae (K) truly is an amazing professor who wants every single one of his students to succeed. He's got jokes for sure. I am regretting not taking his MICR130 class! Honestly, you will regret taking this class with any other professor in Hawaii. Read the chapters and pay attention to the "pre quiz", and show up. You'll learn a lot and get an A.

Dr. Kae wants his students to not only pass, but LEARN. He is really passionate about what he does. He incorporates real life information, jokes, motivational advise throughout his lectures and/or before class starts. There really needs to be more teachers like him. I only wish I could take the rest of my science courses with him. He is THE BEST!

Professor Kae is definitely one of my favorite professors by far. He always tries to inspire and encourage us and hes really funny too. Even though attendance isnt mandatory, you should come to class because of the pre quizzes and itll help you understand the actual quizzes.

Quizzes and exams are very do-able. I was lucky to have accumulated enough points to not take the final exam. Would take his class again.

Dr. Kae is one of my favorite professors! He genuinely cares and wants his students to succeed. The pre-quizzes and regular quizzes can be challenging, so make sure to (and I cannot stress this enough) read the material before coming into class!!! The labs were a lot of fun and very educational! Dr. Kae is a great guy with a great sense of humor.

He is a great prof. The only thing I did not like about his class is the prequizzes (5 questions with one or two extra credit opportunities). Dr. Kae really wants you to succeed even though your grade is not posted until the end of the semester but you can always do the math or ask him to figure it out. He will teach you everything you need to know

Dr. Kae is a really chill professor! He doesn't expect a lot, and he wouldn't make you do anything he wouldn't do. His labs are super fun, especially if you're a hands on learner. Always remember to do the pre-labs before class for points and help during your lab time. He'll always provide you with help if you need it.

Really enjoyed the class. Dr. Kae provides a study guide to go along with his long lecture videos. If vocabulary doesn't stick, like me watch his lectures. There is a 4 part group project, however it is up to you to have the project completed regardless of the lack of participation of your group. Complete the discussion post for extra credit.

Dr Kae is an amazing professor! He is very knowledgeable, organized, and passionate about his work. He was intimidating at first, but he is one of the best professors I've met so far. His assignments are not difficult at all and his labs are enjoyable. I'm sad that this semester is ending soon. I would take his class all over again! 100% recommend

My favorite Professor from LCC. Lab is fun in this class and the lab reports are short and easy. View the pre-lab videos, answer lab report questions, and come to class. There is 1 exam and 1 group project l. I promise you will enjoy his class!

Dr. Kae is an awesome professor. He cares about his students and is encouraging until the end. He gives extra credit throughout the semester. If you make the effort to listen to the lectures, study the material, you will do well. He responds quickly to your concerns and is thoughtful is his responses. Dr. Kae's MICR 140L class was an easy A if you put in the effort. He connects the class to the real world, making his class very interesting. The coursework included lab write-ups, a group project presentation, and three tests. He is very hands-on in class, creating a fun learning environment.

From day 1 I could see how much he has a passion for teaching and it really showed throughout the semester. If you show up to class with a positive attitude and do what is asked, you should defineatly get the grade you want. He also gets small pep talks to get us motivated which I enjoyed.
