He is nice, accessible, and intelligent. The hardest part of his class (online) is that you'll be studying for a test while he is lecturing and giving assignments on new topics (that aren't in the test). This wouldn't be such a big deal, except he does not allow notes on tests. Trig is ALL new formulas so be prepared to CRAM a dozen at once.

This professor was helpful, clear, and direct. His class had no fluff, only important, graded material weekly, so there was no time wasted. If you ask a question via email, you will receive an immediate response with more help, advice, and resources than you need. He is extremely understanding with extending due dates and exams.

Has a Discord server that allows the class to help each other, plus he responds to any questions posted there fast! Drops lowest hw, quiz, and exam score. A short 3-question quiz after each chapter, thus very easy to get an A. Leal is a respectful teacher that values questions and helping students understand.

Helton is a great teacher who cares about his students. 10 hw, 2 droppable. 4 quizzes, 1 can be dropped. 2 midterms and a final. One optional group project that can replace a midterm. His homework isn't from pearson mymathlab, but questions from the book. His quizzes are simple and short make sure you have a webcam. he has four EC assignments.

I really enjoyed Helton! Hes very communicative and takes peoples opinions into account with his class structure. He drops the two lowest homeworks and the lowest quiz, and provides study guides for each test and quiz. Lecture attendance was optional and was recorded for later watching.

Trigonometry is a fast paced class, but the professor was organized and accommodating, everything is negotiable. Gives lots of extra credit, drops lowest quiz and hw scores, gives study guides that are exactly like the exams. I literally had a 104 at the end of the quarter. The bad reviews were just because he tried a new testing format-he fixed it

I learned a lot of skills in this class. Summer quarter is short, but Professor Leal still tried his best to teach everything we have to know. I was bad at math and I was not confident about my math ability; however, I am different now! Office hour is good for asking questions as well. He is a patience and nice prof! It is hard to not get an A.

Helton's class was great. The content was difficult because it is a precalculus class but he offers lots of support. The quizzes and exams are proctored on respondus monitor and they are fast, he gives you 15 minutes for 2 quiz questions and 50 minutes for 12 exam questions. He drops the lowest quiz and exam score.

Professor Leal was great. Honestly, one of the best math teachers I've ever had. If you are more of a visual learner, take him for sure. He explains the problems/solutions so well while keeping it organized so students can refer to his explanation as a guide. Offer's plenty of extra credit, drops 2 homework, 1 quiz, and 1 project. Math 142 Coursework was straightforward but rigorous, with four projects, and plenty of opportunities for extra credit, but you need to be proactive early on when you feel stuck on topics, as they can come and go very quickly. I would highly recommend doing the practice quizzes/exams multiple times to understand the mechanics.

Professor Helton is an amazing teacher in my opinion. He is very understanding and fair. I personally like how he prepares us for quizzes and tests as long as you spend some time each day to prepare it is very easy to pass. Overall professor Helton's class isn't that difficult and he is a very great teacher. I definitely recommend him.

Helton is by far one of the best teachers at BC. Helton has clear expectations for Exams and Quizzes by going over questions that will be on the quiz/exam before students take the quiz/exam. Helton is a very understanding professor. Although the class was difficult, he offered help with assignments and lots of opportunity for extra credit.

I've loved taking Professor Leal's course. It's not been easy but he's caring and good at explaining concepts. There are three homework assignments per week but only 5-8 questions per unit so it's really not much. He goes over exactly what will be on all tests during lecture and records them in case you can't make it. 10/10 would take again.

Despite my difficulty understanding the course material, Professor Leal made the class enjoyable and was very caring throughout the quarter. He held optional Zoom meetings twice a week and offered many other times for additional help. Quizzes are biweekly.

Be prepare to do quizzes and homework every week. The professor is really nice and help his students since he always have zoom meetings. The tests are always how you imagine in a math class. If you don't do your homework, you probably won't do well in your test.

Overall, Mr. Leal's class is straightforward. Weekly assignments have a similar workload, all on MyLab. Complete the homework to his expectations and study the practice quizzes and exams beforehand and you'll pass with an A.

Professor Leal's course was good. There are 2-3 assigned assignments each week with projects and quizzes every other week - dropping the lowest scored quiz - He provides lecture vids and practice quizzes which are really helpful, but some problems I found were lecture vids were bothersome with his boosted mic and some HW were just time consuming.

Straight forward assignments, easy to complete on time. Watching the videos he uploads for lessons are helpful in completing homework and quizzes. Expect a quiz at least every other week.

The course i took was online so everything was pretty self-explanatory. He creates projects that will help out your exam/summative scores. Also, he provides plenty of extra credit assignments.

Mr. Leal structured his class by having optional lectures, 3 assignments each week worth 15 points each, a final HW submission due every Sunday where you are required to submit the work for those 3 assignments written out on a sheet of paper. The hardest part of the class was the lockdown browser quizzes and 2 exams along with an optional final.

It is easy to get a grade if you really follow the textbook, attend the class, and finish all the assignments.

Prof. Leal was easily my favorite math teacher for many reasons: he was very reasonable with homework; he made the quizzes and exams way easier by going over EXACTLY what was on the test; and most importantly, he really focused on the applications of the math. Having personal one on one conversations with him was very enlightening and enjoyable.

Professor Helton Leal is a pretty nice guy. This class was hard which is expected but very time consuming. Homework counts more than quizzes. His class includes 2-3 homeworks(3-12 questions on each hw) on Pearson every week , 1 very easy project every two weeks, 1 quiz (two questions each quiz) every two weeks, 2 exams total. Lots of Extra Credit.

Helton Leal is good professor he grades fairly, gives plenty of options for extra credit and even allows students to take practice quizzes/tests before exams and quizzes. His lectures may be boring but he gives good information and teaches the material well. I am taking another course from him next semester, would recommend.

Professor Leal welcomes questions during class. There are multiple ways to contact him. His lectures are informative, and will ensure you know how to complete the homework. Homework is the biggest weight on your grade. There are many extra credit opportunities. He provides and solves the questions on quizzes and exams a week before they are due.

Helton is a great teacher who explains things well. He always takes time to make sure his students are doing well. As long as you do the homework and practice from it you should be fine. He always reviews the quizzes and tests beforehand by giving examples so if you attend those review classes you should do great on the tests.

He gave lots of opportunity to help you make your grade better. Quizzes and tests have practice before hand with many problems, which really helped me prepare for tests and quizzes. He makes sure you understand the material, and answers your questions in a good way. I recommend taking his class. I will be taking math 142 with him too!

One thing I like about Professor Leal is because he organized every chapter and stuff very well. And what he did was he put every mini chapter like 1.1 1.2 1.3 and each of that for Monday Wednesday and Friday, if you are a person like me do all the works ahead, it is good to choose Professor Leal.

For an online class this was a very good prof. Homework posted by the start of the week and due by the end 3 assignments online + write down all the answers and scan them (2 hours max if you attend lectures/3-4 hours if you figure it out on your own per week). test + quiz questions are posted before the test/quiz so ez A. Overall, Professor Leal is easily accessible outside of class and provides clear and helpful lectures. Lectures are typically a half hour (twice a week) with helpful example questions that he does on screen. Professor Leal is also extremely flexible; his homework is not heavy (5-6 questions & twice a week) and is based on his lectures.

Professor Leal was amazing, I had him for Pre-Calc 2. We had homework every week with either a quiz or a project! Not too much workload, totally manageable. We also had 2 exams and if you do well on those then you get to skip the final. Helton was also very helpful and was always there if I needed help! Easy A- if you put in the work!

I'm so glad I took pre-calc with professor Helton. One of the best professors because of how much he prepares you for each quiz and exam. Don' get me wrong there is plenty of work but he makes sure that you have the resources to succeed. I wasn't in class but I made sure to review the recordings and complete my assignments and got a 4.0.

Overall the class is great and is one of the best teachers for precalculus. Tests are proctored but the practice tests go over the type of problems you will see on the test so overall the tests are not difficult. The lowest grade of each type of assignment will also be dropped.

Professor Leal is not the bad. His class work is average but make sure to do it because you will get points deducted if you are late. The class has four quizzes and has three exams, if you do good on the first two, you do not need to take the final. Do all the extra credit if you need a little boost in your grade.

Professor Leal's class is well structured and clear on what is required to succeed. Outside of class he provides positive input and is very considerate. Although be sure to stay on top of the assignments, the course is very homework heavy as 2-3 is assigned each week, I would recommend going over all the resources he provides as they are plentiful.

Mr. Lead is the best Math instructor. I took two courses with him (Math141 and Math142). I would like to take Math152 with him, but he does not open any course for the winter quarter of 2022. Therefore, I just wait for him for next quarter.

Mr. Leal is very nice and a good teacher! However, his class is not easy. He makes homework 45% of your grade so you need to work for it! The projects are fun and he gives you second chances for lots of things. I do not regret taking his class!

This class had a lot of homework, but you can do it easily as long as you pay attention to the lectures. He allows you to remove one major assignment that has the lowest grade(lowest test and quiz are removed) this allows for skipping of a few assignments at the end of the year including the final if you have a good grade. He was a great teacher

The lowest grade of each category gets dropped which is quite nice. I found some of the prerecorded lectures to be quite hard to understand, either due to overcomplication or due to mic issues. The course is a bit homework-heavy but he gives you multiple chances to get it right.

Professor Leal is someone who gives you plenty of opportunities to succeed in his class. However, if you are looking to major in mathematics you should choose another class. It's not his fault but no one shows for the Microsoft meetings in the morning and he cancels the class when there are fewer than 3 people. So a lot of self-study.

This course allowed for some flexibility. Plenty of extra credit. Only critique: pre-recorded videos need to be edited. It's hard to follow along when the professor makes a calculation mistake and then spends time to figure out the mistake. It's difficult to follow when the learning process is interrupted.

He is a clear grader and is clear in terms of how to get a good grade. For assignments you have almost unlimited chances to try and solve the problem. He has weekly quizzes covering the weekly concepts and work shown is required. Overall he is a clear grader and his course is reasonable.

Take this class! This is one of the best math classes I have ever had. The there are 4 quizzes (2 are dropped) and 2 mandatory exams (the final exam is optional and replaces the lowest of the first 2 exams). He is very caring and is always available to help. There are 4 projects as well. 3 homework assignments a week which are EXTREMELY easy. And he will drop the lowest quiz, project, and homework score.

There are a lot of complex concepts in this class, but I feel he gives a lot of room to succeed if a student applies themselves. I’ve had some difficulty navigating through communication rubric for him (he tends to use MS Teams instead of Canvas for messaging), but over all this has been a much less stressful class than I anticipated.

I really liked taking my class from this teacher. I wish he was teaching the other math classes I needed because I would take his classes again in the future.

Didn't attend one zoom all year. Class was very easy; prof responds very timely. Almost impossible to fail the class, no reason you shouldn't get 100% on every assignment, test or quiz. There are re-do's on the homework, and practice exams that have the specific concepts that will be on the test. There are walkthrough's that can help you learn.

Fairly easy to navigate. He posts lectures to hw but the actual program used to provide and grade his hw also has an option to "view an example" of the question given. It is really easy to understand how the math works just by reading through the explanation. So for those who can't sit through lectures there is an alternative way of learning.

Helton Leal is overall a good professor with a very organized asynchronous class. However, I think that the lectures should be longer and focus more on explaining the fundamentals of the topic instead of rushing into solving problems, also adding the amount of examples would help as there were only 2-3 simple examples that don't reveal everything.

Professor Leal will tell you exactly what is required at the beginning, so read the syllabus. The workload is reasonable, but as the classes get harder it may take time to finish work. He is a lenient grader, he provides a lot of extra credit. It is pretty easy to get an A in this class as long as you work a reasonable amount. Classes are fun.

Taking this class you are open to many extra credit opportunities given by the professor. If you are wanting to take this class I assure you that doing all the extra credit will bump up your grade even if it's extra, because you'll need it just in case. Overall, daily HW needs to be turned in at the end of the week and twice a week quizzes.

Math 142 was a challenging subject in general, but I liked that Leal goes over quizzes, assignments, and exams before they were due to help students who are struggling. Though the course videos and textbook guide are time-consuming, I recommend setting aside an hour or two to complete them.

Professor Leal was super helpful and welcoming to students. He showed great passion for the students and for helping them. Homework grades are flexible in the due date but quizzes are at a hard time. However Leal was helpful in offering an optional final to make up an exam.

Professor Leal is a great instructor It was an online class which is generally harder but it did not feel that way. Professor Leal did lectures twice a week that went over the homework it was not mandatory but he recorded them. As well he had extra videos going over each section. He provided lots of information outside of the text book.

Professor Leal has an online class setup that I love. There are scheduled live meetings that are helpful If you are not understanding the content but you don't have to attend and instead you can watch the pre-recorded lecture. Don't get behind in the class, things go fast.

Professor Leal is caring, helpful, & overall great. There are online sessions twice a week, but they are recorded so you don't have to attend the actual meeting. There are 4-5 homework assignments a week, with only 5 questions each. As long as you take the practice tests and quizzes multiple times, you will do fine, as they are in the same format.

I absolutely love professor Leal's courses! This is my second course with him and I already signed up for a third class. His grading criteria are very clear and it is very easy to get an A in the class if you follow the criteria. The class was fast-paced, but he was very open to questions and there is extra credit. All homework assignments and quizzes though are due at 11 pm. The exams and quizzes are timed but are very similar to the practice ones, so if you just drill those you should be ok.

Professor Leal was understanding throughout the whole course. He had plenty of extra credit opportunities and emphasizes how he is available to help during office hours. As someone who has a tight schedule, I would say that this course did have more homework and quizzes then I had expected compared to other classes that my friends had taken.

There are two optional meetings every week and it is recorded. The layout of the assignments is organized and the same every week with some projects here and there. The quizzes and tests are in the same format as the homework. My only struggle was the exams being timed to only 50 minutes and you have to show all your work which took me longer.

great teacher and its easy to get in the A if you turn in your work on time I'm really bad at math but it's easy to learn just put in the work. there's 3 hw assignments every week, 2 exams, optional oral final and project/quiz which alternates every week he's really caring about his students and wants them to past but take the practice exam/quiz

Prof. Leal was a great professor in terms of organization. There weren't too many flaws, assignments were spread out across the week consisting of usually 3 regular assignments, sometimes a project, and a Quiz/Exam over the weekend. He provides plenty of resources including video lectures for those who cannot make it to the non-mandatory meetings.

Professor Helton is an awesome professor for Math 141. He really cares about his students and wants them to succeed. As long as you make sure to take notes on the lectures, do the homework, attend Microsoft team meetings, and practice, you will be prepared for this course. He is really easy to talk to and reach out to for help. Take his class!!

Professor Leal is a very organized and consistent teacher. His lectures cover everything in the homework. If you do the practice test and homework, there will never be any surprises on exams or quizzes. The homework is hard but prepares you well for tests. My only complaint is that he grades work very intensely and grades it as two separate things.

Professor Leal is a tough grader and assigns a lot of homework every week. That being said, he is extremely understanding and willing to hear you out if you have any complications with turning in your assignments on time.

I loved this class! I had previously taken Math 141, and I didn't understand the concepts very well, but this class really helped clear things up. In addition, Helton Leal is great at returning work on time and making expectations clear.

This course was well organized and the professor did a good job making sure we were prepared for assessments. There was a reasonable amount of lectures and homework and the content matched the assessments, so there were no surprises when it came to test/quiz questions. This was my second course from this professor, and I would take again!

Many extra credit opportunities make it easy to finish the course with over 100%. Extra credit can be as easy as presenting your project in class for double credit. Practice quizzes and exams include all the information for quizzes and exams. Online attendance is not required live, he asks that you watch the lectures. Uses Pearson MyLab for hw.

This class was not too overwhelming and the workload is not overbearing either! There are weekly homework assignments due at the end of the week but he organizes most of the classwork for you to time manage well. There are 5 projects, 2 exams, and a few small quizzes throughout the quarter but he offers you many resources to pass.

Great class overall. Prof. Leal is clear on his expectations and very well organized. Workload is manageable, esp. for a math class. He cares about his students and wants you to succeed. Show up and do the work, you'll do well. He offers a lot of extra credit, so if you struggle with math, there are a lot of opportunities to bump up your grade.

Professor Leal was a great professor during COVID and he taught asynchronously. Honestly, I don't think I've had a more tech-savvy professor than him. My only complaint was his email response time, but because he has 2 zoom lectures a week you could just talk to him then.

Really enjoyed working with prof Leal, he gives you plenty of opportunities to do well. I think it’s for the best you work on the hws on time and don’t wait last minute though.

I have actually taken two online math classes with Professor Leal. He is super straight forward with his expectations, but is also pretty receptive to feedback. For me homework took about 2 hours, 3 nights a week. On top of that was also quizzes, tests, and projects. It was a manageable course load - don't be nervous and take one of his classes!

Professor Leal had set expectations and generally is really nice. The only thing I would say is to have equations memorized thoroughly as quizzes and exams are 15 and 50 minutes with multiple parts, which may be a cause of panic for students who are not confident in math or have anxiety with a webcam and timing set on them.

Professor Leal cares about his students and wants them to succeed. I would definitely take his course again because I know I would have the support to succeed.

Prof.Leal is so nice that I can't find some good words to describe him. There are a lot of assignments but if you have any questions just ask him, he is very respectful and patient with everyone. I always have many questions and every time he will say " I'm really appreciate that you can ask me questions" because I really have a lot of questions.

There wasn't to much homework, there was about 3 sections of homework each week. Each section had 5 questions so it usually didn't take to much time. He was a pretty easy grader and offered a lot of extra credit that didn't take much time to complete.

Leal has been a great teacher, unlike other classes your performance is graded more in your HW. His class was very well structured with a schedule he stuck to. He also took into account student feedback which none of my other teachers have done. Overall a great teacher that cares about his students.

The assignments are a lot compared to other classes I took, but I'd say they will help your study a lot. There are many extra credit opportunities, and the late assignment policy is quite generous.

Helton Leal is one of the most attentive & understanding teachers I have ever encountered. If classmates had issues understanding concepts, Helton would take the time out of class to address specific homework problems to further the classes understanding. He would ask for feedback on coursework & time limits and increase time limits/deadlines.

This class was an interesting class. I wasn't doing so hot on a few quizzes at first because I went over the homework only. Here's a tip, be sure to look over the practice quizzes and exam, that would help you out a lot. Don't be afraid to reach out to the professor. Be sure to finish you homework and watch the lecture recording!

I really enjoyed his class! He used a variety of materials to teach and while the homework was short, it was consistent and definitely made it necessary to stay up to date throughout the week. He planned out the course and shared it early on and only adapted it when we gave him feedback on the workload. He gives lots of extra credit opportunities!

As long as you keep up on the homework and quizzes you will be fine in this class. There are homework assignments are every week and quizzes are every other week. I recommend that you take time to look at the practice quizzes and exams as they help A LOT. I was never someone that did good in math classes but this class had changed that.

The practice quizzes and exams were perfect for studying and preparing for tests. The homework given always covered the information you needed for the tests.

This was my second class with this professor. I would say if you like a more independent study style this class is for you. As long as you do the homework you will be set for the quizzes and exams. TAKE THE PRACTICE TEST they make the biggest difference. Not a hard class the only obstacle for me was timed and proctored tests and quizzes.

This teacher made this class very easy if you studied or even put in a little effort. The homework and practice quiz's would prepare you very well for the actual quiz's and exam's, this makes you feel like the amount of work you put into studying is appreciated and rewarded which is great.

Live meetings are completely optional in this class. The instruction video and the program used for the homework make it very easy to ask questions when needed, and the professor tends to answer most questions during his live meetings and student hours. It's a hard subject, but the class does a good job of breaking it down.

He's a wonderful professor. If students needed any changes to quizzes/exams/homeworks, he would be willing to accommodate (extra time needed, questions changed, due dates extended, etc). Overall, the grading was interesting, as your actual work would be graded but your handwritten work would also be graded for how well you included all your work.

Class runs smoothly online. Pearsons Math Lab makes doing hw really easy because it shows you how to do it. You can't get anything less than 100% on hw. 4 quizzes, 3 questions each. 2 exams, 10 questions each. Optional final at the end. Teacher is great, if you need help or have questions he is willing to work with you.

I saw Helton's scores and I was not disappointed. He hands out a sheet at the beginning that shows exactly what homework you'll have due every day for the entire quarter. It looks like a lot, but it goes by fast. I do recommend doing the study guides. The tests are often exactly what's on the study guide, so do the study guide a lot! Very easy!

Professor Leal has structured his class well, providing a lot of support and stability through a multitude of office hours and online lectures. As a teacher, I think he is still adjusting his course to find what works best for him and his students, but overall I love his enthusiasm and approach to class. Also, his course load is manageable!

Go to his optional lecture they are so helpful, and if not watch the recorded videos! I was nervous about taking a Precalculus course after not taking a math class for over two years, but Professor Leal provided the class with so many resources to succeed. Mr. Leal is a great teacher, he does everything he can to make sure you are successful. I took him for math 141 and there was the syllabus and criteria basically stayed the same. However, this quarter he didn't grade our home until the last two weeks of the quarter so it was hard to tell how I was doing in the class.

Helton is a very good teacher, he lets you remove the worst grade in each category which allows you to skip the final, he also goes over every question on the quizzes and tests beforehand in the classes which makes those much easier. The homework also isnt too hard but there is a decent amount of it every week.

Mr.Helton is one of the best proffesors at Bellevue college. The work load is heavy but mangagable do not procrastinate and prepare for the quizzes and exxams.

The course consisted of weekly homework assignments, 3 projects, 4 quizzes, and 2 exams. He drops the lowest score for each type of assignment. &offers a lot of extra credit but mainly in the form of calls/ tutoring sessions and other physical participation. The tests/quizzes require online proctoring software so consider that factor too:)

I've taken 2 classes with Helton and out of the 4 math classes I've taken at BC his are by far the best! I've never liked math but Helton is clear, caring and makes math not suck. He's a bit of a math nerd but teaches like a humanities professor in that he genuinely wants his students to find success. I wish he had taught 151!

He's literally my goat. Great professor, funny, cares, tries his best. Lectures can be kind of confusing but you can ask him for help. He grades reasonably and gives extra credit. Come to class, take all the notes you can, study, and you'll probably get an A.
