Dr. Shaban is the most unprepared, disorganized teacher I ever saw. He lost half a class period looking for a lab because he couldn't teach us programming Java without a lab. He didn't bring enough copies of an exam to class..more to follow.............
Dr.Shaban is completely disorganized, rarely ever prepared for class, late, does not explain lessons (just expects you to know how to do it).This is an easy class but some people didn't know how to type-imagine their confusion w/this instructor.

I was unfortunately forced to take 202 with Shaban. Thank goodness it was my only class with him. Totally disorganized, poorly made tests, assignments are sometimes unclear, wastes lots of time on silly GUI issues. If you want to learn CS, do not take him
This guy sucks he does not want to teach the class even though he knows his stuff this class is basically self teach because you don't learn a single thing in his class. Shaban if you read this think about leaving because you are hurting the students

Very unorganized teacher.Talks a lot in the class about things that are completely unrelated to the material.Teaching style is bad and refuses to answer student's questions properly.
Students who are committed to a successful academic career would benefit greatly from Dr. Shaban knowledge of the field of computer science. He combines academic and industry experiences into an enjoyable class room setting.
He is a nice person and very intelligent. He will code during the class which is almost impossible for other teachers. He's very disorganized but will grade easy.
He is very nice and easy. He combines his experiences with the material which makes learning fun and easy! I do recommand him....
Possibly my most hated professor. Gave me a B on my final project (which counted huge, mind you) because it was only 90% functional, despite the fact that the rest of the class cheated to get 100% function. He said i should have cheated too.
This guy cant teach a bird how to fly.
I don't know why people are complaining, but he's a really easy professor if you finish your work. He even ordered us pizza. The final exam was a take home, so I'm not gonna complain.
This teacher is one of the best teahcer i ever had for csc10,he is very nice very helpfull and at the same time he is good in teaching,he knows what axctly you need to know,i had him he is very nice and i was very happy in his class,i hope he will be teaching inb future classes too.
This teacher is very unhelpful and has not taught me ANYTHING this whole semester. I changed my major because of this professor. He Sucks royally...he needs to go back to Lock Head Martin where he supposedly wrote programs. Instead of wasting my time and the time of my fellow students.
To teach a subject you must know the material yourself. This guy does not qualify. I aced class, even though I skipped half the classes, because he probably didn't know enough to mark wrong answers. If you know nothing about this subject, and you actually want to learn, get a different prof.
This is got to be the worst professor in the state of Virginia. This is the reason that N stands for knowledge at NOVA. People say he is an easy professor, and he is, but he CANT TEACH. If you have a question about a grade he will say "Dont worry about it", the class was a joke. i got a B.
I liked him a lot. He gave me an A, even though i was late everyday. Spring 2004!

Very easy. No matter what you do you'll get an A or B if you're on his good side and thats not hard to do. Easiest class I've ever taken
Horrible teacher. He NEVER EVER showed us the best way to do the programming assignments. But what really gets me is that I was the best student in the class. I know how to program efficiently, and I feel he gave me a B because I was a woman. The "men" I helped in the lab, got A's. ****...
He does not teach and he is a ****.
Ok, I can see why people are saying his teaching is not on par with the best of them, but he is such a nice man. He joked with us all the time, went around to help the students constantly, and even had us go to clean up some snacks after some conference ended.This class was very hard for me, but he made sure to show me what to do. VERY SWEET MAN!!!
The class is pretty simple but he just makes it so frustrating by not answering your quesitons ignoring people this guys sucks !!!!
Dr Shaban is very skill-full as far as his teaching skill. What some students don't get is that he'd let u teach urself how to do the in-class projects so that u actually learn something and when u need help, he'll be there. Fun class! Participation is a must! I'm a comp intermediate, but I learned more from him. Outstanding professor. Got an A.

I atended the class regularly gave good tests and still i got a B. He is the biggest suckin person u will see. He gives A to all the good looking girls in the class who flirt with him. He is so shameless that once during glass he said relationships are possible between teachers and students. If u are a student who really studies avoid him.
Really big on attendance although you don't do much in class. Tests can be hard and sometimes the questions are on things not covered in class. No projects just take home tests. If you want to learn something don't take his class.
Absolute WORST professor in the history of teaching!!! There's no homework assignments to practice or understand the areas where you need help. He uses other professor's tests so the terminology is different from in-class. Tests are ridiculously hard and contain uncovered material. Save yourself!
Easiest teacher at NOVA....but you're not gonna learn too much that's the only problem. I got an A and he called me Romeo all the time...
I took the same class with prof. Lin and did not learn anything really. I retook the class with Prof. Shaban, and he presents the subjects very clear. He is also flexible about the test takings. If you don't understand, just ask and he'll find another better way to explain for you.
I don't know who some raters were taking. Prof. Shaban was the most helpful and knowledgeable computer professor I've ever had. He teaches programming by writing programs in class that have the coding for the projects. His tests are a cakewalk. I'm a slacker and still pulled a B in his 201 class. I cant wait to go back to him for CSC 205 this fall.
Easy A class. if u need an A for ur GPA then take it just show up and do his tests and all and u will be perfectly fine. he is a cool guy but sometimes he just doesnt know what he is talking about. also he calls ppl with different names just coz he is weird like that. over all easy A class. take him and u wont regret.
Horrible teacher, if he can even be called that. The class is essentially taught by the textbook! He has students type by projection for him, while he reads out the instructions from the book labs. He often doesn't understand what he's teaching and has violated privacy multiple times (home phone calls) and flirts with the young women in class.

Easiest professor you'll ever have! I had a lot of fun. He could be a jerk but 99% of the time he's just messing with you. Once you understand his crazy humor, you learn to love him. I had a lot of fun and would recommend him to anyone. (Unless your a computer science major- in that case, take someone else) :)
Very low quality instructor. He said his tests are "easy", but somehow the tests always included material that wasn't even mentioned in class. And if you ask him about it, don't expect a satisfactory response. To top it all off, he has virtually no presentation ability at all.
I like him and did well in the class. But i would not recommend to someone in the field. Take Fransell or Lin if you want to learn 100%. He is a little rough around the edges when it comes to teaching.
Don't even waste your time taking this guy. You will regret it! His class is a total WASTE OF MONEY
I really hate CSC, but I had fun in this class. He's funny and interesting. Three take home tests and your webpage make up your grade. The tests are about 150 questions(T/F + multiple choice). Not easy, but with your book it's not impossible. Maybe 2 hours each? Total that's only 6 hours out of class you'll be spending. Never homework. Take him!
Great and honest and caring teacher. He is very wonderful, and the best teacher so far! two thumbs way up!
Really funny guy! Tries to keep class entertained. Easy class. Three or four take-home exams, but they're not easy. Make a web page and just show up to class and you'll get an A!
Professor was boring, unprepared, did not lecture at all. If you are a CS major, or actually want to learn about Computer Hardware, avoid at all costs. The exams had nothing to do with the book and the professor just read slides.
SUCHHHH A FUNNY TEACHER!.. hes my favorite, class is very easy, we just follow the book, you don't even need to go to class.. he gives you a take home test and midterm.. very simple, just show up and do some work and you'll get an A!
I really hate to give bad reviews, but this guy is just BAD! Every class, it's the same thing. He makes you follow him on the screen working on the book. In the end, you'll realize you learned nothing at all. The tests are all ridiculous. 75% of the questions aren't even taught. You HAVE to work through the programs yourself to find the answers.
He is the worst professor/teacher ever!! he really should get fired. His tests have nothing to do with what he gives us in class. The test he gives us are extremely hard, I failed all his stupid tests. He is not helpful at all. don't take his class.

I thought I knew this stuff hands down, all the introductory software involving MS office. But I learned a thing or two in here. He teaches straight forward and his class sessions aren't too bad. I'd definitely recommend him for someone trying to fulfill the CSC requirement. Good man, Good Professor, take Dr. Shaban.

I only say that attendance is mandatory because you should get an A if he knows your name. He doesn't really teach much actual programming outside of GUI's. He goes over all the sorts, etc, but his tests don't cover what you learned in class. Try the work, turn it in and show up = EASY A! Want to learn how to program, take someone else.
Professor Hanney is great. I took his CS201 class and got an A. As long as you show up EVERYDAY and show effort, he will reward you for it. He does "flirt" with the women in the class. His projects are simple, and mostly done in class. I def recommend him if you need to take CS201.
if your a computer science major dont take him. you might get an A(easy A) but will not learn anything. but if ur not a CS major, and you only have one CS class as a requirement then take him.

This guy is so laid back he doesn't even care about the class. His lectures are useless and the class is a joke. However, since this is an introduction class the materials are so easy you can do it yourself. As long as you do your work you will get good grades. Don't expect him to help you though.
Dr.Shaban is the BEST!I love this man!he is awsome,fun.you will get good grade as long as you show up and do your work!even if you screw up the tests..as long as you show some effort then you still gonna get at least B if not an A..although i dont need computer classes but i will just take him again for the credits..such a fun class!
Terrible teacher, didn't learn anything from him. One class period he even made us grade our own tests (and other section's test) for the entire 1 hour 30 min session. He avoids answering questions and hardly knows anything about any actual programming either.
Terrible teacher, but a funny guy. He's very flexible on grades. By that I mean he curves a LOT. Just show up and do the work and you're gonna get at least a B. However, he doesn't know his stuff. We spent one class period grading tests for him, and learned very little from him throughout a 6 week course. Take him for the credit, not the info.
Teacher is very easy, as long as you follow his guidelines you'll be straight in obtaining an A or a B. This guy is definitely easy and you'll come out to learn something at the most. His accent is not strong like most people have said, you'll enjoy the guy, his definitely funny.
This class was the easiest class I have ever taken. He is an ok teacher. But the one thing that bugs me big time is that he does NOT respond to emails. He seriously needs to work on his communication skills.

Amazing teacher! he's great, flexible on grades and care about his students. as long as you do your work you will end up with at least a B. I would definitely recommend this class
Professor Shaban is pretty easy going. Somewhat unorganized if you asked me. He doesn't really like to help his students with the topics. He always complains about students not being quick enough at finishing the assigments. Can be very rude at times. NEVER answers emails. Pretty easy A though, but you will learn almost nothing.
To be honest, professor Shaban makes class be so easy. The problem is that he gives two multiple choice exams that are take home exams. The exams material has NOTHING to do with what was taught in class. Plus, he is an unpredictable grader who favors some students. So before taking his class be aware.
Textbook a must for all the in class work. Two 100 question take home exams. Require time to do & tricky. Dr. Shaban was considerate & straight forward. Also accomdated a problem I had during the semester, which I gave notice in advance. If you cannot make it to class or be late, let him know in advance! Its a simple class just do not be lazy!
He is kind of annoying. He makes the students show what is on the computer. If you have some basic knowledge in microsoft then take his class. It will be easy for you. One good thing about him is that you get out early. I don't ever remember having a full class session with him.
Teacher knows programming but his teaching method is the worst. DO NOT take it if you have a major related to computers!
As long as you show up to class and do his work. He will pass you. If you want to learn more computer stuff he isn't the right professor for that. All he taught us was how to do spreedsheets on excel and use access..and wordpad. The 2 textbooks he told us to buy..NEVER USED. The exams he gave us were 100 questions.

However, if you ask him a question, he is very willing to help you. Despite his personality issues, he is an easy grader and teacher. Take him if want a good grade in the class.

Professor Shaban is a silly guy. His class is super easy but I did learn some from it. Honestly it wasn't really that hard of a class, it's one of those classes you just show up to, do a little work and get an EASY A! He seems like a sad dude, so just humor him people and go easy on him. If your planning to transfer to GMU... take CSI not CSC.

This class was a joke, in a bad way. Teacher did not teach anything, then tests you on everything. Take home tests were OK I guess but he marks questions wrong that are clearly correct then never goes over them after. I implore you to avoid this guy.
He clearly knows what he's teaching but doesn't always know the best way to teach it. He will never respond to your email or answer his phone no matter how urgent it is (very frustrating) and is the only reason I received a B... wouldn't respond to my emails and is never in his office.
You have to learn everything in class or by your own. You can ask him something about homework during his office hour. He is the most intelligent person I have ever saw!
Took this guy for 205 and 202 in the same semester. If you want to learn coding or ANYTHING then don't take him. If you just need to knock out these two classes to transfer then go right ahead and get an easy A. 90% of class is spent talking politics and the other 10% is lecture. Program assignments and 205 tests are taken from other professors

This was an introduction to programming class where you don't actually do any programming. Most of the class he is just goofing off.
There is no structure at all to the class. You will not learn anything. Shaban has no scheduled exams, and he announces exams in the class before they happen. He doesn't prepare for lectures and asks US to help HIM with the code he shows and does not show an understanding of the material. Honestly the most embarrassing excuse for a class I've taken
Take this class for a free A because the professor does NOT know what is going on. He ordered the wrong text book, had to cut out some of the syllabus, pushed up half of the deadlines to the middle of the semester, and just matched our grade to our completion work on Cengage. Really nice guy, funny teacher, but completely out of his depth teaching.
