Very good teacher. Explains everything very clearly. Has great knowledge on this topic. Has served 30 years in the military. He tells you what to study for the exams. Just listen to his lectures and study for the exams and you should be fine.

A great teacher, friendly guy, and it's a very interesting class. My suggestion to you would be to study from the lecture and the study guide that he gives out. If you study those two things, for sure you'll pass the class.He also gives a lot of opportunities to raise your grade too.

Dr. Shockley is good to go. He is an outstanding professor that knows his stuff. You will be just fine as long as you follow the study guide. He is very conservative and if you are a liberal anti-war prick, then you might actually learn something about life, politics, and the military (the people that provide your freedom).

Dr. Shockley is the one of the best professor at this college. His life experiences as a military officer provide extra information of the topic like his duties at the White House and so on. He is very generous and his tests are clear if you follow the study guide. I really enjoyed his class I hope he teaches other Poli Sci class. Take his class

He is a GREAT teacher, very nice and polite. Actually says hi to you if you see him outside the class, not stuck up like a lot of profesors. The tests are VERY long, but if you study you can get an A even though his A is like a 94% and up. If you do well on the first 2 tests you don't have to take the last one. GREAT PROFESOR!

This professor is very eassy (and a bit boring). You have to participate in 3 easy discusions. He gives 3 tests, and they are all essay questions. his grading scale is a bit difficult. 94%-100% is an A and 87%-93% is a B. I always studied for my tests and got over 90% on all of them and I still got a B.

As far as Poly Sci teachers go, he is the best! The textbook isn't mandatory, all you have to do is buy his notes from the bookstore. It's not difficult to get an A in his class, but the tests aren't easy either. They consist of fill in the blank definition questions and short answered essay questions, which come straight out of the study guide.

Professor Shockley Poly Sci 1 was not difficult as long as you buy his notes and pay attn to what he's covering in class. The tests are not difficult as long as you study. The textbook is not needed so save $$ and dont buy it, just buy his notes. Participate in his discussions and submited extra credit work early on in the semester.

Fantastic professor! No textbook, just class notes (low $). Grading scale may look intimidating, but it's not as difficult as it looks. Tests are not hard but require studying. Very sweet funny man. He gives 3 tests. provides two discussions in class. He has two books you need from the student store for both books it'll be like 25$ If you go to class and study prior to test you can pass. You can retake the first test and for the final you can avoid it with an essay. Grading scale is anything under 74% is a fail.

What can I say about Professor Col. Shockley. He is not just a grate professor but is an inspirational guy who surved 30 years as a US Army Ranger. But he's a nice guy who puts the students first and makes sure that you are learing the material. You will learn and enjoy class.

Very kind older man, very willing to help his students. He lectures the entire class and he uses power points. He also has very useful study guides and he compiled his own little book so it's much cheaper than a regular text book. The tests are extremely easy if you make sure to study the materialstudy guide. He also will even review with you.

Professor Shockley is a master in this field. He's a veteran and former agent for the US Secret Service. He's knowledgeable, relevant and a pertinent member of the LAVC faculty. You're cheating yourself, if you take anyone else's classes.

Course consists of 2 exams and 2 short quizzes. He provides a study guide before each exam and reviews it so you know exactly what he's looking for on the test. His course grading scale may be higher than usual, (95-100% A, 90-94% B, etc.) but the class is fairly easy if you pay attention to his lectures. Don't waste your time buying the book.

Professor Shockley was amazing and I would really take him again. His test are so straight forward and he might be a little hard to hear, but sit in the front and you'll be amazed. I have two semesters left at Los Angeles Valley College and hands down Professor Shockley is one of the best professors I've had. He is extremely knowledgable and though we differed politically, I enjoyed every discussion we had. His grading seems extensive, but he goes over the study guide which provides an easy A if you study it. GREAT TEACHER!!!
