easy A
Highly recommend! Prof Carnie is a great easy teacher. You have a midterm and final plus an a paper. He practically gives you the answers for the midterm and final so you get an easy A. There is a lot of lecture and power points, so be sure to take notes every day. Overal very easy class, take him!
Awesome professor. Had him for History 1 and he was very clear in his lectures. I got a B in the class, but I guess it was 'cause I didn't try too hard, but if you did, it would be an easy A. One paper and 2 tests I believe. Very chill professor. He also goes over material the day before an exam, so that helps a lot!
He really knows what he's teaching and is interested in teaching others about it. Very well structured lessons and overall class. Also very helpful and invested in the student's individual performance. One of the best at the school.
Professor Carnie is the best! You can tell that he loves to teach history because he puts so much effort and energy into teaching. His notes are easy to understand, the 2 essays are alright (they aren't graded that harshly). He practically gives you the answers for the midterm and the final. super nice TAKE HIS CLASS.
prefect professor
He is a great teacher that is genuinely interested in history. Our grade is base off of 2 tests and an essay. There was originally 2 essay but he canceled one. You don't need to buy the books because he goes over all the answer to his test the class before. Easy grade, take him!! YOU ROCK CARNIE
Very very easy class!! He gives you the answers right before the tests. And gives you a study guide that you go over in class. Do the extra reading just because he had a lot of surprise questions on the test. Should be an easy A.
Super easy class and easy A. Really knows his material and there's only 2 tests, 1 essay, and no homework. He's funny, dresses nice, and is good looking too which is an added bonus if you take his class. Overall, I really enjoyed his class even though I disliked the subject.
Great teacher! His lectures are not boring and he's super clear. He's a easy grader and tests are super easy. Take him you will not regret it!
Professor Carnie is one of the best. Passionate about what he teaches, very knowledgeable, and clear in his communication. No homework, 1 paper, midterm and final with a study guide provided.
Really chill guy, super friendly, loves his history great professor ! and he's handsome. take his class!
My favorite professor this semester. Very clear in his explanations. He knows his subject very well. Tests are easy. His lectures are very interesting, you will learn a lot in his class. Take him and you will never regret.
He's pretty young and can relate to his students, his lectures are pretty interesting and knows his subjects well. His class is super easy, study the study guide and you will pass all of his tests as there are no trick questions and everything is straight forward. Showing up to class and participation in class matters.
Professor Carnie is AMAZING. I hated history with a passion but he made the class interesting and easy. He's super easy, no homework, just three exams that are super easy. He goes through the entire study guide before so it's an easy A!
Read the assign reading and you will know what the hell they are talking about in class. in the beginning until the end, I was always lost in discussion. YOU HAVE TO PARTICIPATE IN CLASS TO GET EXTRA CREDIT! if you watch or read a lot of books that are about history. He would probably know it! But hey, I passed.
Henry is truly a gem. You can talk to him early before the course, or after and he will always happily answer questions. I think its really amazing when you have a teacher assigned to a specific department, but they know a lot about other topics and the like. Hes got a flannel for every day of the week, and knows his history!
Henry Carnie is a true history lover. He's quirky, but don't be fooled. Your grade is partially based in participation, and he loves discussing the topics. Show up, enjoy the lectures, take notes, and you'll do well. Highly recommended.
Carnie is an awesome, professional instructor. He incorporates mandatory class input for his lectures but trust me, its worth it to get everyone to learn. He dedicates his time connecting stuff from long ago to contemporary themes. Its a shame that we only have a few instructors that care as much as he does here at IVC. Teacher of the year IMO.
He's a really good instructor and is very organized. The tests arent too bad. It just requires your usual study time and youre good to go. His teaching style is very unique, but in a good way. Overall he's a good instructor
Really easy professor, no quizzes, no homework, 3 tests and no paper. Super funny teacher, very helpful that I heard him promise someone to erase her lowest score if she did well on next test. books are not necessary but if you are lack of historical common knowledge, recommend you get one. class participate is important. just speak out!
Professor Carnie is a very good professor. I usually hate history but he somehow made it interesting. His lectures are not boring at all and explains the lesson in a way that attracts your attention. He wants you to participate all the time but do not worry, he will like whatever you say. He is not a rude teacher at all! You should take him !
Professor Carnie is an approachable and friendly professor. He is very humorous and wants you to do well in class. Beware though, participation is an essential aspect of this class, but I somehow survived with an adequate amount of participation.
Professor Carnie is amazing! His lectures are interesting and it makes the time pass so fast. He passes around a sign-in sheet and you MUST participate! His tests are pretty easy, and consists of 50 MC questions and 5 short answers/key terms. He's also very willing to help students pass his class, but you have to put in the effort.
He is a phenomenal professor! He is easy to talk to, passionate about history, and young so he's easy to relate to. Take good notes and study hard and you will pass with flying colors! Be sure to go to class because participation is important. Also he dresses like a J Crew model. That's a plus. His class was very interesting as well! Take him!
Amazing. Can't have wanted more from this professor. He was clear, kept it interesting, is young and connects with the students really well. Just pay attention in class and prepare well for the exams (he gives study guides which he goes over) and you should be good. Loved it so much that I'm taking his HIST 2 class next semester too! 10/10
Professor Carnie was amazing. He's so thorough in his lectures and what he expects from you on any given assignment. No homework really, just studying for two midterms and a final, and one paper. He basically gives you all of the test questions on the study guides and goes over the answers to them in class. Wish he taught all of my classes!
Carnie is the bee's knees. Took history 1 & 2 with him. His power points, as well as himself, are very informative and he, or the power point, can answer almost any question you have. But participation is highly recommended. He engages with the class alot and asks questions frequently. 1-2 essays. 2 Tests that include explaining terms thouroughly
So this class is really straightforward. there are very little things he grades- 3 Tests, and 2 Papers. He says participation is very important, so every time u talk or ask question, he gives a little ticket which u turn in at the end. U should have 20 tickets by end of semester. All he does is lecture and EVERYTHING on the test is on study guide.
Continuation- There is also a book assigned, no 1 reads, just watch movie. Attendance is recommended. He has powerpoint and he posts them on blackboard so pay attention everything on prpoint answers study guide Qs. No group work or discussion at all, hope he changes that. He grades somewhat hard on essays and short answer on tests. Take calass
Mr. Carnie was entertaining and very funny which made his class enjoyable. He is one of the best teachers I have had at IVC. His test were reasonable (fair) and he is willing to help with whatever you need. Highly recommend.
BEST HIST PROF! He is so organized and lets you know what he expects of you. He gets grading done quick and give you a study guide EXACTLY like the midterm and final. Very helpful when you visit him in office hours especially for essays. Participation is a MUST-- I am shy but you get over it when you know you're graded on it- participation tickets
Carnie is a great professor. I had his class at 8:00am but didn't mind showing for the class at all, I actually looked forward to it. If you show up and pay attention, you should be able to do well. The class is about developing your own understanding of history and explaining it well.
Prof. Carnie is awesome. He's a total history nerd, and loves rambling on about anything historical. He has a very subtle sense of humor. Lectures can get kind of long and boring (especially during the first few million years of history on evolution) but also get pretty interesting at times. It's a pretty easy A if you're good at writing. Do take.
He was a good teacher, and follow his directions on essays and tests. You'll need to study, but he won't pull any tricks on you. The study guides are fine.
He's an amazing professor. He really cares about his students and wants you to succeed. He's an easy grader on essays and test questions. And for the multiple choice questions make sure your study guide is accurate and in depth and you'll get A's on everything.
Great professor! 2 midterms, 1 final (he gives study guides and goes over them), and 2 papers from the readings! (he grades tough, but lets you review it with him before the due date) PARTICIPATION & ATTENDANCE MATTERS but his lectures are great and funny, it's fun to show up! you get little point tickets for asking questions! Study though!
Professor Carnie class was lecture heavy but he made it interesting and he definitely knows his stuff. Little tip here you do not need to read the assigned readings to do well! His tests are basically all on his lecture except like 2 questions so not really worth it. As long as you pay attention during lecture and attend class you will be just fine
Loved him!!! So nice and creates a safe learning environment. 2 term papers, 2 midterms, and 1 final. He has powerpoints but definitely go to class if you want to really understand. He makes the lectures interesting and you want that participation, and make sure you raise your hand and contribute too. Highly recommend, he's the best!!
Look.. Professor Carnie is a nice Professor. He cares about you. His grading is smooth but you have to put in some effort to get an A. The thing I disliked about his class is that it is kind of boring. I think he should make some activities and show us videos in addition to the power point slides so we would be more interested to learn.
He is a very nice person. When it comes to grading, he is very reasonable. He doesn't just give you an easy A, but if you put in the effort, you will definitely get it. Participation is MANDATORY in his class. You must raise your hand and participate in the discussion at least once a day for full participation credit.
I've taken two history classes with Professor Carnie and he is by far one of my favorites! His lectures actually go along with his tests and essays plus he gives really detailed study guides and always does a review session the class before the exam. He's always there if you have a question or want to discuss a historical reference in pop culture.
Hands down the BEST professor on campus at IVC. Loves his subject. Loves his students just as much. As long as you put in the effort, you'll succeed. Very funny, lectures can be slightly boring if you're not a history geek. If you ARE a history geek, you'll be in heaven for an hour and fifteen minutes.
He is a strict professor. After you get your exam grades, you have never to seen his examination paper. I only get F in his class.
He is a strange professor. His history exam is also special. In his history exam, the multiple choice is self- contradiction. I get D on his history exam.
Great teacher. Unbiased in grading and knows his history well although he might rant in things he doesn't know about like Econ or politics, he is well versed in what matters in his class. Very friendly and makes participating comfortable and easy.
He is a good professor. It is easier to get C in his class when you participate in his class and treat his class easily.
He is an excellent professor. You can learn variety kinds of knowledge in his class, but he always treats student strictly.
Unbiased in grading and knows his history well although he might rant in things he doesn't know about like Econ or politics, he is well versed in what matters in his class. Very friendly and makes participating comfortable and easy.
His lectures are not boring and he's super clear. He's an easy grader and tests are super easy. Take him you will not regret it!
Professor Carnie is one of the best. Passionate about what he teaches and clear in his communication. No homework, 1 paper, midterm and final with a study guide provided.
Professor Carnie was really cool. His lectures were easy to follow, plus everything he goes over in class is online. Midterms and finals were really simple and there was only 1 paper. He was super funny during his lectures too. Really laid back and overall just a cool guy. Highly recommend him!
The best professor!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The best teacher ive had since highschool. Great lectures and sets up students to pass as long as u pay attention to the lectures. No homework except papers (really easy essay) and readings. Recommend this teacher for any history major, starters.
One of the best profs I've had. Laid back lectures with lots of Star Wars / game references. Grades papers leniently, just participate at least once every class for a solid A. All tests including the final are cumulative with choices, so it's not that bad and you actually end up remembering some things after the semester lol.
Carnie is amazing! Very passionate about History and always makes the class interesting (GoT reference :D) He provides study guides for exams and will go over with you the class before the exam. He also assigns two papers. I went to his office hour for help on both papers and he was extremely willing to help! I honestly learnt so much from him :)
2 midterms, 1 final, 2 papers. Reads entire paper and grades it like an English teacher. I suggest running the paper by him before turning it in to secure an A on it. The exam is basically the study guide. Try to talk at least once every class to get your participation. It REALLY matters. He lectures heavily off of the powerpoint. Easy A/great prof
Professor Carnie is one of the best professors I've met in IVC. You must go to his lectures to earn participation points. Lectures are uploaded online and he gives you study guide for both mid-term and finals. One or two essays to write for a semester. You can learn everything from his powerpoints and you can get all the answers for study guide.
One of my all time favorite professors at IVC. His lecture is more like a giant group discussion more than listening to the professor drone on waiting for class to end. His tests are super easy as long as you were actually listening in class and participating. I'm taking another class with him right now because I loved his teaching style.
Lectures could get boring if youre not into history but he keep you entertained. Participation is very important! Two paper, 2 midterms, and a final. All are relatively easy.
Carnie is a great professor! He makes class enjoyable and fun. Make sure you participate in discussion every class in order to get participation points. Pretty tough grader but lets you know exactly what he wants beforehand so it isnt too bad
Professor Carnie was passionate about his teaching. His class consisted of no homework you just have weekly readings, 2 midterms, 2 papers, and a final. He gives you points off of participating in class discussions. If you arent into speaking up, he gives you opportunity to give him a piece of paper before class asking questions to get points.
This was my second time taking Carnie and he is so amazing. He is so very funny and makes history so much more interesting. His tests aren't hard nor is his grading. If you do the reading and participate, it'll be fine. He is phenomenal, the best professor at IVC.
Best history teacher in IVC!! For the midterms, he provides study guide and the answers for the exams are on the studyguide. And on final, it is world map quiz and you should memorize 30 countries in the world and he will assign 25 countries and you just need to match the countries with the map. So easy!! So if you wanna get good grade, take him!!!
Prof Carnie lectures are a little boring, however, he does crack a joke now and again. A positive about his class is that he is willing to answer questions outside of class which is helpful. He provides clear exam study guides also!
Very good professor if you attend the lectures you'll be set for the midterms and final.
This was quite a good class. I enjoyed writing the papers and the lectures were informative. Participation points are important to help the grade. I recommend this teacher for anybody interested in Ancient History.
Professor Carnie is passionated about history and you can tell. He loves when students participate and is quite funny. You should definitely visit him during office hours. He gives good feedback and will answer any questions you might have regarding assignments.
This class was tedious but interesting at times. I felt like Carnie was sometimes bored of his own lectures too. His study guides are literally his tests so make sure that you study the questions with flashcards or quizlet. Somehow successfully wrote a paper w/o reading the book he made us read. He also provides his ppts on canvas which is nice.
Fantastic teacher that genuinely cares about students. Study guide is provided for exams and participation is worth 20% of overall grade which really helps boost your grade up so participate in class, attend office hours and/or do short written questions and answers. I plan on taking more classes in the future with Carnie, highly recommend!
Carnie's lectures are boring. So far in History 1 he is covering ancient civilizations and early man. His lectures are a collection of common sense and crude logic; I doubt he knows what he is talking about. Lectures bring no value, but he enforces participation points as part of the grade- very annoying, many students just ask random questions.
I love this man, he is absolutely an inspiration and by far one of the best professors I have had the pleasure experiencing. He is very knowledgeable and extremely nice. His classes are 100% lectures so if you don't like that then maybe don't take his class. He requires one paper to be written and he will help you write it to get the best grade.
A great professor! If you attend class and listen you should do fine. Make sure you do the study guide and go to review session because its basically the exam. Also get feedback for your essay at office hours! Overall, I really enjoyed his class!
Prof Carnie is the greatest teacher I've ever had. He goes into a lot of detail when lecturing and explains things extremely well. He's funny and a great person too. If you don't enjoy history you *might* not enjoy his class, but if you're a history lover, it's great! I wish his classes were longer. I might become a history major because of him!
I took two classes with Carnie and loved it. Lectures are never boring and if I remember correctly his lectures are also uploaded online. The textbook can be used to gain information for the tests, though all test material is in lecture. There is no homework, but there are 2 essays due, which he gives ample time to write. So glad I took his class!
I really enjoyed Professor Carnie. This class is NOT an easy A. Participation is mandatory and there are 3 exams and a paper. He grades tough but if you pay attention to the lectures and cite the books (in the paper) you will be okay! He is super knowledgable and cares about History. Take him!
Took his ethnic studies 20 for the second half of spring semester. No homework was assigned other than one final project, which he gives so much time to prepare. Participations will be extremely important. There will be some extra credit opportunities. He is willing to answer all questions until students understand and I loved his lecture!
I took professor Carnie's Intro to Asian American Studies Class, it was by far one of the best classes I have taken at IVC. There are a total of three big assignments: Final Project, Final exam, and Discussion posts. I advise to participate in lectures and post on discussions, since participation is worth a good portion of your grade. 100% worth it
took his class for credit and he made me want to be a history major. i loved his lectures and his addition of LOTR in them. really interesting lectures with super straightforward grading. his study guides take one sitting to fill out and study. he really reads your essays and makes sure you understand what you're writing about. would rec and retake
Prof Carnie is a really nice, respectable, and inquisitive character. I took his 2nd 8 weeks course this past Spring semester and it has been by far one of my favorite classes at IVC. There was A final project and a final written exam for this class, other than that there was little to no HW. As long as you participate and utilize EC, its an easy A
Prof. Carnie is amazing! He's hilarious, and his lectures are engaging. He also provides ppts of the lectures on canvas to use for studying and/or notes. Two midterms, an essay, and a final. The exams are an easy pass if you use his study guides, which are SUPER helpful. My first college class and it was the best experience. 10/10
Here's the thing about Prof Carnie -- He is very very clear about what he is grading and what he wants. There are about 4 things that are graded in this class - Discussion Posts, Midterm, Paper, Final. You really have to do well on those so there is a little pressure. But, the course was straight up easy if you put some work in. Taking him again!
Great professor! Interesting & informative lectures
Professor Carnie is a great option for history. I also took his HIST 1 course as well. The class consists of weekly discussions, 1 paper, and two exams. So be sure to do well because the class is graded off of a few things. He also offers extra credit which can really boost your grade. Awesome professor!
I took him for H1 but had to come back for H2. He makes history interesting in the way he tells it in an organized story mode. He offers extra credit if you participate and he is always available to help you out. He has a bit of a quirky sarcasm with a few "dad jokes" .... Still one of my favorite professors I've had for my 2.5 years at IVC and SB
I took him in the summer and at first, I thought he was a hard teacher because he doesn't send announcements or anything. But just do the reading quizzes for participation and the discussions and you will for sure get an A. DO THE STUDY GUIDES, they are exactly like the test!! Super easy professor if you have no interest to take history seriously
This class is great to fulfill a GE or whatever you need. The class consisted of easy weekly discussions, one project, midterm and final. Midterm and final consist of short answers and essays that are 4-5 pages but they're easy to write. Not a lot of work at all. He's also an easy grader and responsive to emails. Pretty informative class as well.
No synchronous class sessions, lots of reading (spread it out), discussion boards (easy points), term paper, a midterm and final that you can basically complete throughout the semester (but he does kind of grade hard- just make sure your history is accurate.
This review is for his Asian American studies class that was online. It's a pretty straightforward class where lecture powerpoints are posted on canvas and your grade consists of discussion board posts, midterm and final. There are also office hours if you need it. As long as you take notes and pay attention, it should be a easy A.
Easy class. weekly discussions, midterm and final, and one paper. He gives a study guide that is almost exactly the test, so do the study guide and you'll be fine.
I wanna just thank him for his help!
Hear me out, I'm only at a B- because I gave up on my finals because I was way to tired. This class is pretty easy to follow, just have to do the required amount of discussions, midterms, a project, and final. There's a lot of readings but you can choose which one to read and do a discussion about. He may sound rude on his emails but he's nice.
This is a fairly easy class. There is a lot of readings. Try to get full points on the discussion as soon as possible to relieve stress later. Don't wait until the last minute to start doing the assignments, he gives many days to finish your interview project, midterm, and final.
Professor Carnie's class consists of 3 papers and weekly discussions. He's a tough grader for the papers so try your best with them since they usually make up a quarter of your grade per paper. I ended up p/np since he heavily graded my first 2 papers and I didn't want to worry about getting a B.
Very cool guy. He doesn't really let you talk to other classmates but it is expected as a college class but he does interact with us here and there. He can be funny sometimes but overall he gets things done. He grades from 0% up so be aware of that. Overall cool guy, is organized, and just will answer questions properly and well to help you out.
This class is based on discussions and 3 papers. No assignments. Those discussions don't do enough to hold your grade up if you flunk one of the papers. Teacher is not helpful and does not care about your grade. I wish I picked a different class
Professor Carnie was amazing! Not a tough grader at all, and there was basically no hw for his class, with us only having to write an analytical paper, and take a midterm and final examination, which both consisted of describing 4 terms and writing an essay. His classes are lectures, but they were actually quite interesting. I recommend him a lot!
the class is great the lectures are engaging and as long as you do the work you will get a good grade. if you really engage with the class and are interested in history as I am you will enjoy it even more, carnie is overall a great professor and i definitely intend to take some of his other classes
As long as you participate it's an easy class. There is one discussion post a week which isn't too hard and also the reading quizzes are graded off completion and not actual grade, also they are self-paced.
Grade is based on weekly discussion posts, a midterm, and a final. He grades pretty straightforwards: if you put in effort, meet the assignment requirements, and turn it in before the deadline, then you will easily get an A. Class lectures are interesting, insightful, and relaxed because you only need to listen or maybe bring up your thoughts.
Took this class in the summer for credits. Easy online class and not a lot of work. Weekly discussion and 1 paper and 1 midterm and 1 final.
Class structure is fairly straightforward, the grade you earn is largely dependent on your ability to get the work done on time. Very lenient in turning in late work but I don't recommend waiting until the last minute. Also has super helpful office hours, gives great advice on what he's looking for, and is understanding, I'd recommend his class.
Took the class during the summer and it was easy. One paper, one midterm paper and one final paper. Weekly discussions and thats it.
Amazing professor! Graded based on discussions and three essays. I struggled with the first paper but received helpful feedback from Professor Carnie to improve. Be sure to use only the sources he provides and avoid outside information. Follow his instructions carefully. Great experience overall—hope to take another class with him in the future!
Class instruction and assignment due dates are super clear. Minimal effort but very informative class. Professor is VERY understanding.
Approachable professor, fair grading system. Discussions, project, midterm, and final are manageable. Readings can be selective, and unstuckstudy proved helpful for study prep.
Incredibly smart guy, also very funny in a subtle way. His personality shines through his lectures in the way that he's unapologetically himself. Very refreshing to see a professor who isn't "acting" and you can tell he cares about what he's talking about. Easy grader too. Interesting class. Would recommend!
so basically u gotta worry about discussion points, so show up for the first 6 weeks of class. otherwise this class is so light. me personally i havent shown up to class since feburary cause i maxed out participation. lectures are on canvas and its similar to what the textbook talks about. this class is a yap session half the time.
He is very good at being helpful. There are three papers, each 4 to 5 pages long; one is the midterm and the other is the final. The study guides are essentially the tests themselves. There is reading involved, but it's very manageable. What you need to focus on the most is attending all the lectures because the reading is supplementary.
Took Carnie for my IGETC requirements, did all my papers the way he asked for it, docked off points for no reason and kept saying that I have “bogus” citations, when I explained them to him he stopped answering, also asked for feedback on one of my papers, he outright refused and said that he won't look at it even though he says to ask for help.
Took him over the summer, very straightforward class. One discussion a week, a final project (that's an interview), and a final exam (just an essay). The discussions are basically the homework, and the professor himself is very understanding and a lenient grader. Def a great choice
I took this class in this summer. The grading was heavily weighted toward two papers (75%) and discussions (25%). The paper requirements were high, but the rubric was very clear, and he provided detailed feedback. However, if you do poorly on even one paper, it can seriously hurt your grade.
online class so no real interaction, but very direct emailer. classwise it's very simple with discussion board per week, one take home final, and a “group” presentation. his deadlines did mess me up because the discussion boards are due thur and fri. just do the reading and don't procrastinate on final project. thought he gives no feedback so gl.
Do at your own pace type of class. Pretty chill and easy. Only con is that, besides the self pace discussion posts, there's only 3 assignments: Analytical paper, Midterm, and Final papers. So if you screw one thing up, then your grade is going to TANK. Basically, chill class in general, but when those paper due dates come around, PUT IN THE WORK.
This rating is for the online asynchronous world civ to 1500 course. I never interacted with the prof the entire semester. There are 160 discussion points where you earn 20 points per week for responding to a discussion post. You can miss half the weeks and still get 100% on that (16 weeks total) Just 3 assignments, if you mess up you're washed.
The BEST professor ever! Easy A! Lenient grader and supportive of students! Not much assigned work, and they are all take-home, so you should easily get A. I asked him for an extension on a project and turned it in a week late, he was very chill about it. The readings in his class are very helpful but frankly you don't have to read everything!
Wanted to give him a 10/5 if I could have. Very engaging and knowledgeable professor. Take Carnie if you can! Very chill class and not stressful at all!
Absolutely an Amazing Professor. Lectures are short and easy to learn from; I would recommend taking notes on a google doc during the lectures, as he goes over more in depth information about each topic. Not a particularly difficult class and if you can write coherently you can get an A.
