He is one of the worst teachers I have ever had. When listening to his explanation of solving problems I became confused, and I already knew how to do the work! He also has a thick accent. He requires all homework to be done online, even though he does not teach online classes. Terrible, stay away!!!!!
Homework is at the student's discretion. Do as little or as much as you need. In lieu of homework you get a daily quiz. Quizzes count as extra credit. Gives sample tests. Midterm is almost identical to the sample..e-mail messages are replied promptly.professor is concerned about individual students.
I was shocked! I asked all the questions in the world and he would answer for me he took the time and helped me because he saw that I was determined other teachers run away after class but before and after he helped me. He always had time I learned so much from him, he had techniques that made math easy, Mr. Fiener needs to write a book! Go Feiner!
He is an excellent teacher and is very helpful. He explains the problems very well. He answers questions very politely, he never got impatient. Would definately take another class with him.
He is one of the best professor I had. Easy, very understanding. Never get irritated as many questions you asked. Answer very politely, and clearly. The way he explains the problems every one understands. I like the way he teaches. For example at the end of the syllabus he goes over wth the preview questions so it's very helpful for the finals.
This was a good course. He is clear, helpful, and interested that we actually learn the material. He offers a lot of alternative methods that save time, and this compliments the book's material. Overall Mr. Feiner is a good professor and I would not hesitate to take another one of his classes.
Wonderful instructor! I was hesitant going into a math course but Mr. Feiner made it very clear and simple. He's great regarding communication and tutoring (Math Lab). Conducts a straightforward style that's easy to comprehend. I would definitely take another course with him :)
Very helpful and patient. No calculators allowed in class or during tests. Lectures are very easy to understand.
HORRIBLE!!! Has made it clear that he doesnt care if we pass or not, the whole class is confused and he says that he will see us next semester! Jumps ahead, does not explain what he is doing on the board. DO NOT TAKE!!!
I took this class bec. of the ratings here, but these people are wrong! This teacher does not care and is completely unfair. His grading scale is impossible and does not give extra credit. He confuses evryone and if you're late 6x he will drop you. He wants his students to fail instead of helping them.
There are professors who clearly want their students to succeed and learn, he is not one of them. He doesnt give a flying f--k about his students. Only 2 students are doing ok & WLAC should be notified about this situation. When 2 out of 50 students get the correct answer on his daily quizes, then he is failing as a teacher. He's out of control!
DONT WASTE YOUR TIME N MONEY W/ THIS PROFESSOR. His grading scale and tests are cut throat. Ea question is worth 5pts n only cares abt the answer not how you got it, either wrong or right, NO multiple choice, worth 100pts ea. You have to get atleast 80pts or fail the whole class. I got a tutor n he sat in class n said to withdraw n take w/ another
Thanks to this terrible teacher, I will not be graduating in June. I have a 3.9 GPA, got 100% in pre-algebra, and this ONE mistake that I made (taking HIM) is costing me graduation. He favors 2 students in class, and will explain PRIVATELY to them and them only what is happening, and the rest of us can go jump in the lake for all he cares. BAD!!!
DO NOT take this class with him. If you do, take at your own risk. If you're working on a better future, this professor will ruin that possibility for you. I cannot be any clearer than this.
Professor provides you with the tools that will help you in other areas of math. Keeps your attention and answers your questions. Is also available for help.
I have been following along here w/out posting, & agree with the most recent comments EXCEPT for the last one. I spent the entire semester fighting with him over every lecture. He is NOT helpful. Take him only if you have the energy and time to argue. I barely passed and I love math. I did not learn enough to take more advanced classes. STAY AWAY.
This class was pretty hard but I made it through with a B. I think the people on here that are making terrible comments are probably really lazy. This class is not a hand out like most classes at WLAC. You need to work hard. The only problem I had was listening to the rude people in my class complain ALL the time!
He was alright I guess, I would not take him again but if he is the only one offering the class when you can take it, then do so at risk. Not too clear or helpful, knows his stuff but seems to forget he is teaching those that dont.
I believe he should teach upper level math and not beginning algebra. He expects you to already know the material he is teaching before you've learned it. He teaches by "review" only, and does not really teach. He speeds through the material too fast. No practice tests, and no clue as to what will be on the tests. Beware, you will be tortured!
I wish that I had listened to the people that complained about him. I did not think a teacher could be that bad. He waited until we got past the withdraw date and got really bad. He seemed ok at 1st. Now its too late and I am stuck.
Mr.Feiner is a teacher who doesn't care much about whether you understand the work or not. He has a smart mouth and gears rude comments twoards students' often. He gives no credit for online and in book homework he gives. He says its for your practice. The test never reflect the teaching.
I took him last spring, he made me think I was too stupid and would never understand math. My self-esteem plummetted. I was terrified to take the class again since I was too stupid. I am taking it now with another teacher, and I completely understand it. I am getting an A so far and I love it. He needs to realize that he is supposed to be TEACHING!
Very hard to read handwriting on whitboard. Thick accent
Very helpful teacher. Will work out problems again and again if asked. Wants you to learn the material. I recommend this teacher
TAKE HIM! I was in his Intermediate Algebra class. The Class was not doing too well so in the end he made it so that a 60% is passing(C). Also, there was 2 many ppl trying to add class, so he made an extra class THAT HE DIDNT GET PAID 4.Then when enuff ppl dropped he added the extra class. SUPER nice. He hates to fail students!!! l8 work accepted 2
Had this guy over Summer 2010 and I was one of his extra adds that he taught in a extra class. I liked him and I thought he was pretty chill. The class was pretty hard for me(The Math Chair told me that I should not take it.) because I was taking it to get Algebra 2 Credits for H.S. I am now a sophomore in Math Analysis thanks to Mr. Feiner.
good teacher, he just moves too fast
To begin with Prof. Feiner is a nice man but his ability to transfer the knowledge he has is poor. I took Calc 2 with him and was prepared to work hard. During lecture I found myself lost. I got better explanations on the subject via youtube tutorials or other classmates. Seek outside help or use his office hours. Lectures alone will leave you lost
Moves too fast! Doesn't know how to explain well! Expects you to already know how to solve every problem! His tests are VERY confusing!! I would NOT recomened him!!!!!
The instructor didn't teach the textbook materials at all. He taught as if we already knew the work. His test were on an advance level. So be prepaid to do the textbook work on your own and make sure you fully understand the steps. I will say one positive thing about instructor, towards the end he started to grade on a curve (he just didnt tell anyone). So if your able to make it to the end, stick it out. Department final was easy compared to instructor's test.
Mr. Feiner is a good teacher. He does go a little fast, but in my class, he told people from the start that if it was too fast for them, they should take the slower classes, thy are there for a reason. Then, after the first test he told people who got bad grades they may want to drop and add the other. He will help anyone who asks. Very friendly.
Professor is fairly nice, will take the time to review any questions or problems you have in the beginning of class...grades on a curve. No homework assignments to turn in. Tests are difficult, but review your test because he will give you points if you are doing the work correctly. He has funny math jokes. Gets upset if too much talking in class.
Hes a very very nice teacher. If you are trying to crash just keep going to the class and he will add you even if class is full.Curves his grade which is very helpful, answer questions, doesn't mind if ppl use phones. Doesn't drop you if you miss class, doesn't give homework and gives practice test 6 test in semester.TAKE HIM!VERY NICE AND HELPFUL!
Feiner is not a very clear teacher. It is very hard to keep up with him. He bases your grade strictly off of your test scores. Although he is very sarcastic, he is very sweet but I do not think he is a good teacher. Perhaps he should become a tutor.
Mr. feiner is a very confussing he has a tendency to go off on these long explanations of problems he has not taught yet andwhen we ask him to explain he does as if we know often skipping steps. today in class wanted him to explain a problem in the book he said no and picked another to do when i asked why he said he did not feel like explaining
Prof Feiner is organized and follows a schedule, which makes it seem as if the class is moving fast. Sometimes it does and then he ends up having 30 minutes and nothing else to teach lol. If you have a question, don't hesitate because he'll help you! Only con is that sometimes he starts a new chapter with the hardest examples which can be difficult
Professoor Feiner is very helpful with your questions. Many people have difficulty in math and he does not give up or ignore someone. He will go over it a few times to make it understandable. He has a good personality and is nice.
Prof. Feiner does not assign homework, but if you do any and ask him to explain it, he will do it. He is very helpful, but sometimes he wastes time showing the harder way to do something. Just ask and he will help you. His videos are good; he got a page on youtube doing a series of math problems.
Feiner is not a good teacher at all. I'm taking him for Trig this winter session and I wish I wasn't. I find myself getting more and more frustrated the longer I sit in class. His lectures are unclear, his methods are confusing, and he uses a textbook that isn't in the bookstore. Trust me, find another professor. Swaminathan is fantastic.
Not a great teacher. Not clear during lectures. Took him during winter, maybe he is better in a semester timeline. When he was going over concepts on the board , it's as if he is speaking to himself.
Worst Teacher Ever. I dont know where to begin with this guy? If you want a good teacher who knows how to teach this guy is not it. All you will do is frustrate yourself. I advise you even if he is the only teacher dont risk it, take the class the next semester not worth risking your GPA.
Please stay away from this professor. Hes not clear and not very helpful took him during the winter, maybe hes a better teacher during full length semesters. but the moment you see yourself slipping drop his class.
Moves quickly with out explaining things just hard to understand
Unless you're a math genius, do not take this class. End of story.
He is one of the worst instructors I've ever had. He does not explain clearly about what he is teaching. If you have any questions he will ignore you and not answer them. I do no RECOMMEND anyone to take this teacher.
I am warning you my fellow students that he is not a helpful teacher at all. He would constantly make mistakes and would explain in ways how not to do something. I found this class to be useless I learned nothing this semester. He would hardly teach and only show us videos on how to solve a problem instead of him doing it on the board.
Do not take this teacher!!!! He does not explain anything and when you ask a question he gets mad that you do not know anything. How are you suppose to know something he hasn't explained? He expects you to know everything already. Avoid this teacher please!!!!
Do your homework to understand the lectures and if you have any questions he will answer them. He can get distracted and go on about something else but he is always there when you need help.
Please don't take his class!!!!!!! He is not helpful whats so ever and he makes constant mistakes and then gets mad when you try to correct him. He also skips steps and expects you you to see what he skipped and doesn't explain. AVOID HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He knows the subject very well however he is not a good teacher at all. Even if you go to his office he won't explain things better or clarify for you. He goes through the chapters super fast and hardly interacts with class. Anyone that is not good with math please do NOT take his class it can ruin every day after meeting with him.
Taking his class would be a waste of time for anyone who isn't a genius when it comes to Mathematics. Participation does not matter, homework, asking questions doesn't matter He will "teach" you how to solve one thing and than test you on it the very next day. He confuses himself, the way he lectures its incomprehensible even to his own self.
He is tough but has an amazing mind. I'm so glad I got to be in his class. Expect hw, pop quizzes and tough test but also expect to learn a lot from a one of a kind professor. It was my honor to be in his class at West LA this summer
You must try really hard to follow but overall fair teacher! He also allowed extra credit to improve grade after every test I was able to get another copy and redo questions I missed and turn it in again! Will work with you and did NOT at all get angry when corrected.
Some people think Prof Feiner is not the most easy person to understand, but I never had a problem. If you care about the class or your grade, he will try his best to help you. If you skip class regularly or are rude he will not care that you fail. He is there to teach only the people who want to learn.
Prof. Feiner is older so he can sometimes confuse himself but you just have to be a little patient with him. I easily passed his class because I continuously did the homework and studied for his tests. I also went to tutoring after class which helped a lot as well. He will help you just as long as you ask, but make sure to keep up with the sections
If you're looking to understand mathematics, I highly suggest this class. He is very clear and he makes sure you understand.
Professor Feiner makes sure that each student is involved in lecture. He's very helpful and encourages asking questions repeatedly. He's very funny and amicable. I would take his class again.
He is the sweetest gentleman and is an inspiration of someone who loves what he does. Young people can learn from him, by picking a career that you love, because he continues to teach when he can be doing something else.
Mr. Feiner is a very nice guy. I like him as a person, but not so much as a teacher. If you're not great at math, I don't recommend taking him. He's very smart and knows his stuff, but he's not very good at explaining. But I will say, he's pretty fair. If you show up every day and if he sees that you're trying really hard, he'll do his best to help
I have taken all of my math classes with Professor Feiner.... He will not let the chapter go until he sure everyone understands it.... Cares a lot about students.... Really really really good professor
I took Math 105 with Mr. Feiner and although he is a very nice teacher, I feel if he was stricker it'd be a lot easier to concentrate. There were constant conversations happening but he wouldn't call anyone out. Math is not my fav subject and To be fair, I gave up and failed the course. Not Feiner's fault. It was difficult for me to understand
Professor Feiner is the best math teacher I've ever had. He really helps you understand the material and teaches you different methods that are easier than the ones taught in the book. The exams are easy to pass if you do the practice exams he has available.
He allows students to talk during class, at times so loudly you have to strain to hear over them. This isn't an issue because he does not teach the course material very often, but rather spends most of his time talking about his past and his opinions on various things. I'm dropping this class to add it under another teacher while there is time.
Prof Feiner, knows his math obviously, but has his own teaching style. That can be difficult to follow, he uses his own book and 6th,7th and 8th edition. He doesn't explain examples clearly. I wouldn't take him again, because it was more of self teaching in order to pass. But if you are strong at math go for it.
He takes time to illustrate a step by step solution to Math problems.
Excellent!! Always struggled with math but Professor Feiner was always willing to help. If your taking this class be prepared to work but you'll finish the class prepared for the next level.
I wouldn't recommend taking this course with him. U can barely hear him during lecture. His jokes are not funny. Do not expect extra credit. U won't find out your grade until the end of the semester. Expect homework every class day. I regret taking his class and you will too. And the way he teaches is confusing.
This class can be pretty fun when you attend. However, what makes this class difficult is that the professor tells you that you can use his book, or a physical book. The problem with that is that he teaches from a book that we cannot access, and the test is based on his book. And so, studying from your book is pointless.
I took this as a summer class and Feiner covered material very quickly with what felt like little concern to whether the students were grasping the material. He often tested us on more challenging questions than what were covered in the lecture and we were tested every Monday. Avoid this teacher if you want to actually learn and retain algebra.
Mr. Feiner was a great teacher. Since it was a lower level math class, there were lots of young, disrespectful kids, who showed up late or skipped a lot of classes, then blamed him for their disconnect. Just pay attention and ask lots of questions. Seriously, ask questions, because he makes mistakes on the board sometimes. I got my first A in math.
Great professor. Math is a subject that requires at least 2 solid hours of studying per night. He's a senior, so don't expect speedy lectures. If it's skills and confidence in math you require, he's your guy. You won't go wrong with Feiner.
He's not very good at explaining things, but if you can study the concept on your own and understand it generally, the test is easy. His grading system is also great.
He doesn't know how to teach. I learned by myself on line and from the book. If you want to learn do not enroll with him unless you have a strong foundation in the subject. He lacks of interest and doesn't give any feedback at all. He just uses the video proyector to copy the problem that has been solved in the book and thats it.
Mr. Feiner is just an old fart. I asked him about the pythagorean theorem, and how long ago it was discovered. He told me he discovered it, and to be honest, I don't think he was joking. All jokes aside tho, he gave me an F on a test. I had all the right answers, but he said I didnt show my work enough. This is the type of professor he is.
Mr. Feiner is a fantastic professor. He is strict, but he is thorough and took his time to explain a very tricky math problem to me. He is old, but don't let that put you off. He is very passionate about math and wants to make sure you do well.
Professor Feiner is an excellent educator! He is very patient and has many ways of explaining thing to students. He didn't assign homework but encouraged us to do it because Math is something you have to practice in order to succeed. I did all my homework, so I didn't have a problem in the class but those who slacked off didn't do well.
Professor Feiner should probably retire soon. He gets confused and lost when he's working through examples on the whiteboard. It's sometimes hard to understand him because he doesn't speak loud enough at times and he has a little bit of an accent. Would not recommend.
Easy professor
Best class you can take
Amazing class
Lots of Homework
easy class
Professor Feiner did an excellent job. He always made sure we understood the coursework, encouraged us to keep trying, & broke down the process of each problem. I don't like math & find it difficult to understand, but this summer I found math to be a joy. Loved his jokes and his accent! He is an excellent teacher with a great passion for math.
I think many people drop his class because of his age, but you can literally get an A so easily. All the "quizzes" are the hw and they appear on the exam and final. Just come to class for attendance, if there are less than 15 students in class it gets dropped. He also gives extra points to each exam. If he taught Stats I would take his class.
