Don't know if he will teach this class again though, he was only a sub for the orignal professor. The class is only ok, if I would've taken it with someone else I wouldn't have enjoyed it as much.

He's really interesting, he actually reminds me of Ben Stiller! Quite a comedian, but also very smart and informative. The only thing is, your grade consists of ONLY 3 TESTS!!! This doesn't leave room for error. The tests require a lot of studying, you MUST know your material! It's very nervewrecking! But on the upside, he grades on a curve.

A Fantastic teacher. He is extremely knowledgable when it comes to the material, and has a great sense of humor. Encourages great class discussions and wants you to speak your mind. He will oppose you for arguements sake, but he does it in an educational and hilarious way! I wish I had to take more law classes.

One of my favorite professors. Gives passionate lectures & is very sarcastic. This is one class where you will not be bored. The only pitfall is that there is only 3 very hard exams. You will have a genuine interest in law after taking a class with Dr. Hastings. Our class was at 8:30am and there's no way we couldn't be awake after about 5 minutes of the crazy banter. His tests are from the book and largely from the cases we discuss in class. It's pretty straight forward if you attend regularly.

Henry was awesome. He demonstrated that there are at least two sides to every issue, and that you are financially liable for your actions regardless of whether or not you acted within the confines of the law. Go to class, pay attention, and theres no need to buy the book-I never opened it. He gives you handouts with everything you need to know.

Very involved professor. He kept me very interested in what we were learning. Grade based on 3 exams and if you go to class, you will pass. No need to buy text book, I never used it. Very good professor overall.

Professors that actually teach are rare. This class is structured around the idea that experience is actually better than reading. Class discussions are very interesting, and will surprise you. This class is rarely, if ever, boring. The professor for this class is very skilled and it is to your benefit to take him.

Phenomenal. Probably the best teacher I've ever had. Engaging, lucid teaching style. The only downside is your limited flexibility if you do poorly on an exam, since the grade is solely based on 3 of them. Attend every class, especially the reviews. They help a lot.

Great Professor, keeps things going like the rest said. I never bought the book and never needed it as he hands out powerpoints on all the important material. Like rest said grade based on 3 tests so you have very little room for error. Go to class everyday and get involved and you will do well.

Loved this class from day one. He can keep your attention but be on your toes. His exams are very clear. Don't be intimidated to ask him questions because he is actually really nice. He only seems like a hard ass.

Very good professor. Actually teaches the material so you will understand it. Keeps you interested in every lecture. Only downside is your grade is based off three exams, but they are curved. The plus side is there is no homework if you want to look at it that way.

Awesome professor, tells it how it really is. If you answer his questions in class then he will play devil's advocate and make you rethink your answer. Don't answer if you can't handle being questioned about it. Take him if you can!

Great prof! Attendance isn't mandatory, but you NEED to go to class. He takes attendance randomly a couple of times for points and class participation is everything. If you talk in class a lot he'll be willing to bump your grade up, just talk to him about it at the end of the semester. I went from a C+ to a B- no problem.

I got a D on the second exam (ugh) but did better on the final since you are allowed an index card. Expect to hear some very interesting cases (especially towards the end). Attendance is not mandatory but is very important, because you will hear about all of the cases only in class. Take notes of the outcomes of cases because they are always on tests. Read through pwp slides and know the information to do good on tests. He gives a curve but the class is still challenging. Dont buy the book never really used it n got A

He doesn't take attendance, but I say attendance is mandatory, because everything you need to know on the exam, you get from lectures -- not the book. The book is a great "study guide," but his lectures are the bread-and-butter of his exams. EXCELLENT guy, I highly recommend him. Very clear, very concise, very fair.

Great professor, would recommend to anyone. Most people in class found the class schedule to be difficult but if you pay attention I think it is very easy. Always willing to talk if you need to ask him question and is never condescending. Eastern need more teachers like him.

Mr.Hasting makes the class fun and joy. He is very clear, ready & on time. He opens my mind to think and see things differently. If you miss a class you miss class notes that is very important for exams. I don?t like the Idea of having only three exams, it will be helpful for student to earn grades if more assignments and projects assigned.

His lectures keep me awake and entertained in the morning, unlike some professors. He is very friendly and is good at making you think from different viewpoints. The entire class grade comes from just 3 exams, which are hard. That is the worst part of the class. Definitely do not miss class if you can help it, because you will miss vital info.

He is very enthusiastic and willing to help students that show up regularly and participate. His court cases are useful in understanding and preparing for the business world. You must know the reasoning for the court cases inside and out to prepare for the tests. And all are multiple choice.

Great teacher, tells you exactly what will be on the test. Easy to understand, interacts with the class and gives great examples to understand concepts. Come to class because most of the case studies talked about in class will end up on the test. Would recommend to everyone.

If you have to take this class I STRONGLY recommend this teacher! He is funny and makes class very interesting. I was originally going to school for Business and after this class I switched over to Law. He clarifies exactly what to go over for exams and is very helpful if you have questions.

Mr. Hastings by far, is an amazing professor. I have attended classes at EMU since 2005. He is very "into" the material that he is teaching. This is the second week of class, and I would say he is hard to read, but digesting his lectures and cases, I think he is going somewhere! A very different approach! Rewarding, in fact!

The BEST Professor at Eastern. He helps so much and explains everything. Textbook you won't need he gives you PPoint with everything you need to know. Interesting instructor...you will not fall asleep in his class! You can expect drama, exercises in critical thinking, discussions concerning moral and ethical delemas, a trickling of philosophy, and a good dose of business law in every class session. If you have trouble forming opinions about things, this class is a pill you need to take.

If you showed up the class was extremely easy; he tells you exactly what you need to know for the 3 exams. A the end of the semester he gives you a change to talk to him about your final grade and if you show up to most of the classes he'll round up your grade.

Professor Hastings is not only knowledgeable, he is engaging and entertaining. I found it a little difficult to focus on the material being presented because of the humorous way it was presented. If you don't learn something in this class then it's your own fault.

Literally the most interesting guy I've ever had lecture me. He really breaks down the cases in a way so that you can understand it from all points of view. Not biased, and really gets you thinking on a different scale. I'd highly suggest Hastings mainly for the experience than the nice "easy A" but he grades fairly. What you put in you'll get out.

He is the best professor in the business department. He has lecture that primarily involve participation from the students. If you participate a lot and argue in class you will get an easy A, but also be careful because he isn't afraid to tell you how wrong you are or even throw a jab at you once in awhile. His class is easy and extremely fun.

Prof Hastings classes are interesting to say the least, he involves the class with lively discussions about topics being taught. Although his tests are on the tougher side, if you study, you should be okay. Tests are curved, and he gives you a chance to talk to him one-on-one to raise your grade last day of class. I got a D- with a different professor, re-took it with him and got a C+. I wouldn't recommend buying the book because I didn't use it and I still passed, he covers everything in class and sends the notes to your email. At the end, he gives you an opportunity to have a one and one conversation with him, do this because he raised my grade by about 5%

Henry is an awesome professor. He is very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. He uses real life examples and situations about court cases to nail the point he is making. Participation is key and he challenges, but to your benefit in the class. Being a former lawyer, he is an intimidating guy, but he really cares about the students.

Henry Hastings is a hilarious professor. He has participation points in his class that can boost your grade like it did mine. Also since he knew me and I went to his office hours after every test he was able to help. He gives good advice and was a subject I was not a fan of, but now enjoy it.

Took him for an online class, Employment Law, and it was pretty easy. Didn't grade too hard and the textbook was easy to follow. Didn't require a ton other than an occasional group discussion.

The Legal Environment of Nonprofits was a good class. He focused on current happenings in the media that affect nonprofits and allowed us to shift the focus in the class to what we were hoping to learn. No tests; 4 papers + 2 presentations.

He gives the option to honors classes between papers or exams. Most choose papers, its pretty easy two pages have about a week to do it. Hes very passionate and loves discussions. Overall a great professor. Participation in the discussions matter.

Hastings was great! I heard bad things about his non-honors sections, but it turned out to be very beneficial. There are three exams that make up your entire grade, but if you come to class and study hard, the class is an easy A. Overall, you learn a lot of quality life lessons and stuff about law in this course.

It is a mistake if you do not take Hastings for law 293. By far the most entertaining class Ive ever taken. My tips to you as someone who earned a 4.0; participate in class as much as possible!!!, takes written notes and really write down the case details, make flash cards on terms and remember how those terms apply to the cases! Professor Hastings is very knowledgeable about the topics and does a good job translating textual content to real life situations and scenarios. That being said there is a pretty heavy work load of reading and discussion boards online, very manageable just have to make sure you start early in the week and not wait until last minute. You don't need the textbook if you go to class. Class discussions are worth going to and never really boring. He has dry humor and will call you out but it makes the class more fun. You are graded on the exams and class participation. The exams really revolve around the in class discussions and the points he makes you just need to pay attention.

Hastings makes a tough class fun and easy to understand. Three tests worth 30% each and 10% participation. Funny interactions with students and in depth lectures that help learn the material. Raise your hand often and have him learn your name and you will be better off. Fair grading system and would definitely take him again

He is reputable and honest which is what makes his lectures so interesting and important to actually show up. There is a major curve that allows students to get by. Professor Hastings is the best professor I've ever had. There are three large tests graded on a curve (do decent on those and you'll be on the road to savvy). His lectures are unparalleled. Although he may not be very accommodating, he is very smart and listens to people (although he loves to play devil's advocate).

He gives great examples from various websites for each week's reading. There's usually a TD, quiz, and internet exercise to do each week, so it's a time consuming class. There is an entire Quizlet with most, if not all, the answers to each quiz question and questions on the final exam. Take this class with him if you can.

pay attention, take your own notes in the lectures. MOst material is only presented once or twice. Ask questions if you have them. Sit in the front and participate and you'll get extra credit on the final grade. grades are based on only 3 exams, but he curves almost a whole letter grade depending on the class average.

Hastings is by far the most hilarious and outgoing professor I have ever had. I took him Winter 20, and his lectures were amazing. Take notes and don't skip class and you'll be fine. Sit in the front and talk a lot and if he knows your name at the end of the semester he applies a very large curve. When we went online all tests were open book.

Had him during COVID-19super easy class. Do NOT get the textbook (even tho he says you need it). All the quizzes and exams are on the notes he gives! The quizzes are a little hard at first but you'll get the hang of it. Every week you have a discussion post (typically), and a quiz. The exams are super easy too. Everything is open notes.

I had professor Hastings in my undergrad and enjoyed his class, that is why I took him again during my grad courses. Excellent teacher! Took this during the summer so workload was heavier, but expectations were set and known. I received the grade I deserved and respect him as a teacher.

The best lecturer I've ever had a class with. Open-ended discussions where he'll play devil's advocate whether you're right or wrong to keep you thinking critically. I took this as an online class and it was your typical online class style. Weekly quizzes. Uses discussion posts as "attendance." I read the textbook (which was a lot), but it might not be necessary for a good grade. There was a lot of reading on laws and articles. Pretty average in a good way. I'd take his class again.

This dude is legendary. I'm sure as you can tell from the other reviews that he's great; but I'll still give you the rundown. He has tons of lectures, and the stuff he teaches actually is related to the exam (unlike some profs.) Pay attention, and PARTICIPATE! I cannot stress that enough. If he knows your name, you're basically guaranteed to pass.

No homework or quizzes, only 3 exams. Participation (not attendance) is graded, but he gets to know you pretty easily if you raise your hand a couple of times. Professor Hastings is VERY knowledgeable about the subjects he teaches. He gives great real-life examples for the in-class topics. However, he only has three tests that base your grade so read the textbook and attend all the lectures. If you miss a lecture, the tests will be very difficult.

At first I did not enjoy this class and was nervous due to the fact your grade is based on 3 exams. At the end of the semester, he allows students to come in and discuss the grade. This really boosted my grade, and I thought it was great how considerate he was. He enjoys participation and in-class discussions. This class was pretty easy I recommend

One of my favorite professors ever, the dude is hilarious and he definitely knows his stuff. He has some of the most engaging lectures that are filled with lots of debates and discussions. As long as you participate and do decent on the 3 tests, the class is not hard at all. Highly recommend
