Very smart and nice. Doesn't seem comfortable talking in front of the class. I once counted 54 "umm"s in a 50 minute lecture. That's more than 1 umm per minute! And yes, I was very bored.

Jackman is hilarious, which is appreciated after sifting through the long-winded course material. He takes time to address student concerns personally and for a class of 400+ students that's amazing.

Extremelly Intelligent prof! Can take any question you ask and clarify things extremelly well! He does make subtle jokes occasionally, and I found myself laughing out loud quite often. Enjoyable class, although he seems to mumble during lecture sometimes which makes it kind of hard to hear.

Really awsome prof! very very clear tells you EVERYTHING you have to know for tests and essays. I got away with doing very little reading b.c. he explains everything in class

Make sure to go to lectures or get his lecture notes and you won't really need to read the course kit. Just make sure that you get a flavour of how the theorists write because you have to identify them on the exam. He's a really nice professor and is more or less interesting.

Good prof but if you get PIERRE as a TA, RUN. He is a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE TA. The class itself would be better if I hadn't had him as my TA. But thanks to Pierre, it helped me decide that PHIL wasn't the right major for me.

I hated his class...so the material was fine..but he doesn't know how to teach. He is boring and there is no point of going to lectures. And he gives low marks for no reason..I am an A student..but in his class I am getting a B right now. The average of the class is low too. Not an easy course...they have lied in the course description.

Professor Jackman is a nice guy. He helps you out and is very prompt with his emails. He clears up the material even if it is dry (not his fault).

I think Henry Jackman is a fabulous prof...he has no objections to questions being asked during class. Also, his WEBCT notes are fantastic A+!

He SPEAKS IN A MONOTONE!!!For one third of the year, I was trying to understand what he was saying...I thought MAYBE I had a hearing problem but then I found out that others felt the same way.First few classes are interesting and then DUN DUN DAHH!!! So BORING n there's no point in coming to class because he puts his notes online, which are GOOD!

I got A in this course. I attended just 3 classes , the first two and the review. He puts everhing online and his notes are excellent.U dont need to go to classes ,just study on ur own and u will do good in this course. Make sure u discuss ur rough draft with ur T.A. before handing in ur essay.

This is a tricky course since your mark depends soley on the TA, young TA's have a lot to prove, stay away from the arrogant ones, kinda harsh on marks say they wont round up a 79.9 average was low

sometimes its hard to pay attention seems like hes talking to himself.but answers any questions u have in lecture and trys to make everything clear.alot depends on the TA you get as well.talk to TA about your essays.overall hes a very nice guy.

Finally, a Prof that does everything right! Jackman is great. He is extremely organized. He sets up the course so that its impossible to get lost. He lectures r on powerpoint, which are also on webct. Even better, his lectures r recorded and put on webct, so you can always go back and hear it again. Straight forward! If u cant get an A its ur fault

Professor Jackman is EXCLUBERENT!! he is very helpful, he knows what he is talking about, and he posts everything on webct. he is a PERFECT Professor, and his monotone is so cool... & he is the HOTTEST professor ever!!

Good Prof. Very clear, easy to understand, organized, everything that you need is on the website. Very interesting class and he explains things well. TRy to get a good TA. Not a lot of work, minimal readings (i didn't even buy the course b/c its all online). Good class, good Prof.

This course is kind off easy BUT it all depends on who is your TA. If you have an easy TA, then you guaranteed yourself an A. I had a hard one that tried as much as possible to make philosophy sound like a SCIENCE course! p.s. STAY AWAY FROM ELIZABETH!!

THE BEST PROF EVER! If you can take a course with him, TAKE IT! I got an A...it was easy. If you keep up with the readings and work hard on tyour essays, you will ACE!I love this prof. I might take another course with him this semester if I can. He is funny and amazing!

Amazing Prof! Take Phil 1000, go to tutorials and you will succeed. He gives opportunities for bonus marks. Very reasonable and helpfull prof. Any hardworking student will have no problem acing this course.

He makes the subject matter really interesting! He is also very clear and answers emails in a blink! For the first time, essays were exciting to do, but Exam is a bit difficult. GREAT CLASS AND PROF AND TA (Luke).

Online lectures were exactly as expected. Nothing replaces actual engagement with the prof during lectures. Luke was useless - showed up late, never responded to e-mails, didn't do the readings, wouldn't help with essays. Not sure how he got such great reviews from others. If you want to really learn something about philosophy take a real course!

This is an interesting course but very demanding. There are weekly quizzes/discussions and you must participate in the tutorial to get a good participation mark (duh!). The professor is very clear. He's funny and interesting. Also, he responds very quick!

Prof. Jackman is a great teacher. He is clear and concise. My TA was mediocre. I thought the course was a bit difficult. I sometimes found the readings hard to follow and the essay marking vague and unnecessarily picky; perhaps this is since I am not a philos. major. Nonetheless, the final was straightforward, and thankfully I ended with an A.

He is, in my opinion, one of the worst professors in the philosophy department. His lectures don't inspire any thought, nor does he provoke any class discussion. He doesn't grade fairly either.

Absolutely rubbish professor. He never managed to talk about all of the readings he assigned to us. The exam was also very difficult (10 essay questions in 3 hours).

His courses require tough-mindedness to shave off false evidences, do scalpel-edged critical analysis, and acquire knowledge of a diversity of methodology from different fields. Content information can be got from the wide range of required readings, so the lectures give the tools needed to process their relations as well as the significant texts.

Online and Tutorial Participation in class. Great class but Vitaly tutorial leader could offer more clarity in his explanations. He isn't clear when he is attempting to explain concepts. Philosophy is a very complex subjects and professors and T.As can't assume that the students understand all concepts and they shouldn't be forced to participate

His mind is deep and subtle and his lectures prove it. He does assign a heavy reading load, but the subject requires it. Dig in and do the readings and you'll be the better for it. Be prepared to push yourself intellectually. He's a real gem for York. He belongs at UT or McGill, really. Take his class and grow your mind!

By far the most organized Prof when it comes to online lectures. He makes videos with his own lecture slides, and you get to see him talking (really gives a more personal touch!). His analogies are amazing, and overall, he is interesting to listen to!

DrJackman is a pretty down to earth and caring guy. Lectures can be a little monotonous but can be fun if you participate. He is truly well versed in pragmatism and James and there is alot to learn. The course is reading heavy and majority of your grade is the final essay (so put a lot of work into it). I definitely recommend DrJackman!
