Dr. Jacoby is a great professor. It's an easy A if you do the work and read.
Boring class, but he is willing to help his students, tests are all essay
easy C, but an impossible A, Grades very hard, your answers on tests must be prefect.
Wonderful class, but you better study. Grades very hard. Very helpful professor, the study guides before the tests are a plus.
Really good teacher. If you get a bad grade you have to be lazy and of lower IQ. He gives study guides before tests (and the guides are VERY similar to tests). You can fill the study guide out before the test and he'll make sure the answers are right.
Great teacher, but the class itself is very difficult. He'll help you the best he can, give you study guides, but the amount of stuff you have to know is ungodly. If deep thinking is not your scene, beware.
Philosophy is hard in general but he explaines it very well and gives good examples. It you like to think, take this class.
OK teacher IMPOSSIBLE to get an A on the exams, I have been trying all semester and have ended up with a C all the way through. Don't take this class if your going for a 4.0 GPA
horrible...just horrible.
Knows what he is teaching inside and out. Expects detailed answers on open-ended exams, but provides excellent study guides. Does all he can to work with you outside of class as well on your grades. Drops lowest exam, also, which helps.
I got a C but it was because I was lazy and didn't study. He is very clear in explaining what you have to know for the tests but there is a substantial amount of information to memorize. Study and attend class and you'll get an A.
What a great teacher! Very easy to understand and helpfull as well. Does not tolerate talking and disrespect in class. Take him, you won't regret it. Rock on Jacoby:)
I loved this teacher. He is very clear on what will be on the tests. Will go out of his way to help you. Passonate about the class and loves to teach it. Do not drop him. Do study guides and you will fly through
Let me tell you about his tests, you will think you did really good, and you will get the test back and it'll be a 50 or lower. He is very keen on details. If you are an average student, don't take him.. take Hull.
He was SOOOOOOOO entirely boring, I spent most of his class asleep! He was so unclear, and spent most of his time talking about Aristotle when I know that was not the only philosopher there was!
Good teacher. So long as you know everything on the somewhat short study guides and understand it then you can do well on his tests. He will help you fill out the study guide during his office hours.
impossible to get higher than a B. No atendance policy but you have to go to every class to understand whats going on. An ass when you disagree over a grade. he also takes off for spelling. wtf mate?
I had a real hard time understanding what he wanted on tests. He was picky and I think I got a D out of pity.
He is awesome! Clear and helpfull as well-not a hard class at all if you study.Don't understand how anyone could've gotten anything below B in his class. Would take him again:) He's the reason I like Philosophy!!!!
He is a great professor. His test are all essay so you better study. He does give out study guides and these really help if you read the material. No attendance policy but the class is easier if you attend.
Jacoby's awesome! His tests are essays but that just means you have to understand everything he talks about in class and whats on the shortstudy guides. Makes philosophy interesting. TAKE HIM!
Very boring. Test are essays and he is very picky and keen on details in your answers. Got a C.
umm, umm, umm, well for instance. Thats what you will get in his class. Be prepared to be bored out of your mind. No attendance policy but when you go you wish you hadn't. I would rather shoot myself b4 siting through one more of his classes
He was a good teacher overall. Class can be boring sometimes but you know exactly what will be on the test. He is a tough grader but if you have the main idea you will be fine.
VERY HARD AND VERRRRYY BORING, I DON'T RECOMMEND TAKING HIS CLASSES
the absolute worst teacher at ECU. he will not help you with anything, i have a note from disabilities department saying that i can record classes. he straight up said no even after the DEP called him and said he had to... never take this class
Tests are very tricky and essay-like. He's very adament and arrogant in his beliefs, and will not hear you out if you disagree, which I hated. Take someone else like Hull.
Take him, he is awesome, and very helpful. Show him that you care about what he is lecturing
Trust me!!! He is an arrogant butt. I am an A/B student that was finding it very hard to get Cs on the test. Do not take him!!! You will thank me I promise. Listen to the bad comments; they are truthful...
Its clear that the good comments are from the ones who kissed his butt. very mean and unapproachable. You better write word for word the answer or its wrong. no partial credit. makes it way too hard.
The worst professor. I studied longer for his tests than Anatomy and made a worse grade. He's a jerk unless you're his few chosen students. Hes lenient with them, but tough on everyone else. Im an A/B student and that class brought my GPA down.DONTTAKE
Jacoby has to be one of the worst professors at ECU. Sure he gives you study guides before the exams but he nit-picks your answers so badly it's almost as if he searching for a reason to fail you. Unless you are on of his favorites prepare for a D.
I always talked to him, went to his office hours, and studied hard, and came almost everyday... and still failed the class. he's a jerk. biggest mistake of my freshman year!
He is TERRIBLE! If you put one word different from the one on his definition it is WRONG to him! I studied so hard and still failed his class. Unless you are one of his favorites, expect nothing higher than a D!
In my opinion Jacoby was a pretty descent prof. Just as long as you go to class on a regular basis and know whats on the study guides you should do fine. He also let us drop our lowest test grade, which saved my butt!
You notice that everyone rates the easy teachers highly and the tough teachers lowly. What does that tell you about the students here? Jacoby demands a lot from us, but he's a fine and dedicated teacher.
Really stuck in his views. Considering he taught logic, he sometimes lacked it. Trick with his class is to explain things the way he wants, make sure to show him your study guide and essay before you take the test, makes it easy.
He's way too hard on his students. It's as if he exspects way too much and thinks that his class is the only class that your are taking. His class was way too boring and he is way too arrogant. Just don't take this man's class!
Dont listen to those who say he is a good teacher. He is a dedicated cynic and thinks this class is a senior level class. If you have any idea that you will be able to have your own thoughts try again. take Miller...
I'm a 3.6 GPA nursing student, so trust me. This guy sucks. He is stuck in his arrogant views and argues with you if you try to put your opinion in on the lecture. He gave me C's and D's on my essays. I ended up with a B, Thank God.
worst teacher on the face of the planet...he is never clear with his discussion and made no effort to help us students, UNLESS you were the teachers pet...MY ADVICE if you take him you better be that teachers pet..
Lets you drop lowest test grade!
A little on the "proud" side but he's helpful. he gives study guides before every test and if you go see him, he'll basically give you the answer. Just pay attention and take notes you'll easily gat a A or B.
You will go to sleep in his class... and his exams are tough, so you have to force yourself to stay awake and take notes so you can do good on exams. No attendance policy, but definitely go anyway
Intro to Ethics with Jacoby was WONDERFUL! I'd suggest him to anyone! These guys with horrible comments probably never went to class, or slacked off!! His tests are DIRECTLY from his notes, he gives you a study guide AND drops the lowest test. You'd have to be really stupid not to do well!!
He is a terrible teacher. He confuses u about everything, humiluates u when u try 2 ask questions 2 better your learning, he just shuts u down & hurts your feelings. He is not helpful @ all, his test r very hard even when u study your butt off. He is the worst teacher ever.
I've taken Jacoby for two semesters now, phil 1110 and 1175. It is definitely a challenging class, and you have to study very hard for his tests. no attendance policy, but you better go anyways or you'll for sure fail. his tests are straight from the notes, so take down very detailed ones!
i dont know what these people are talking about when they gave him such a bad rating. all u have to do is go to class and and do the study guides. the tests come STRAIGHT from the study guides...if you dont understand something and go to his office he is more than happy to help. i got an easy A
I have a B so its not hard but be prepared for boring lectures, and "circular reasoning" If you have a question he is glad to answer as long as you are glad to agree with whatever he tells you.If you have a question that he doesn't have the answer to he tells you it isn't important and just moves on.
Dr. Jacoby's lectures are pretty boring. His tests are very difficult. They are usually all short answer or essay, maybe a few True/False. He does give a review sheet that is somewhat helpful. You will struggle to make a C in this class. Don't take it.
my favorite teacher. as long as you go to class he is willing to help you and explain things until you understand. tests are directly from lectures and notes word for word east a's if you pay attention
Great guy, great teacher. The material he teaches is hard, but he does his best to make it understandable and is very patient w/ people who don't get it. He lets you drop lowest grade (not final) on a test-great policy! Tests come straight from guide. Take him & talk in class.Take notes-they help.
When it comes to your grade he is very unclear. you think you will get a good grade in the class then you end up getting a bad grade. and he does not let you see your final. I got a B on 1 test and a A the another and my grade in the class was a C. It all comes down to if he likes you or not.
the most HORRIBLE class I had ever taken at ECU. Not only that, it was the hardest. Its pointless to go to the class. He has no personality and can be very rude when you voice your opinion.Think more than twice before taking this class with him.
hard class..kind of confusing..does his best to make is clear...review sheets help, do them and get him to check it...ASK QUESTIONS...
Very unhelpful, rude, DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Do NOT take his class. He is extremely rude if you try to say anything and if you ask him a question that doesn't have the answer in the book then he just tells you he doesn't want to talk about it. Philosophy sucks, the class contradicts the whole idea of philosophy. Take something else!
MEMORIZE, MEMORIZE, MEMORIZE! write down everything to keep from falling asleep, even things you think aren't important cause they will be on the test. Then memorize teh sentences and break up the paragraphs. Dont have to understand to get a "B" He's not that bad.
The class itself was pretty boring. I had taken philosophy before and liked it, Now I hate it. I went to every class, studied ALOT, and still made a D. If you dont answer Qs on the essay test (which is all he gives) exactly the way he would even if you only mess up one concept you will fail.

He is the WORST professor ever!!!!!! Do not take him! His test are fill in the blank and hard! Philosophy in general is hard but do not get him!
Lectures can be interesting, but he doesnt communicate well. Insanely tough grader when it comes to tests! NO TEST MAKEUPS, even if you were having a seizure (No joke.) Study hard, take notes, and find a good tutor.
great teacher and will do all he can to help you if you ask. he is hard but you are better for it in the end.
He isn't that bad of a teacher. The only thing that bothers me is that his test are kind of crazy. Essay and fill in the blank. You have to use the correct wording as he would use or**** dont even answer anything. I think he needs to be more easy with the way he grades...not everyone is a philosopher.
I'm in his class now, He's a brilliant brilliant man. Just his class is hard the material is raw, and the tests are INSANE!! take him if you are good at memorizing and taking your own notes, and especially if your a test taker..
aah ole jackass jacoby. he was a big schmuck that presented himself as the authority on everything. He spells out exactly what he wants on tests and he wants the answers worded exactly as he says. any modification on wording, even if it doesnt alter the meaning results in grade reduction. very dictatorial. very assanine. very unchanging/unwavering. get out while u can.
This is a very hard class, the teacher is hard not the material. He likes things his way. He says he wants to have more "discussions" in the class but if you bring up something he doesn't like then he'll make you seem wrong, even using techniques that he says your not suppose to as a philosopher. Interesting class but close minded teacher.

Very hard to pass exams
He is awful makes no sense and grades in a ridiculous method.
WORST TEACHER EVER! DO NOT TAKE HIM! His mustache hangs in his mouth when he talks and is just disgusting to look at. His class is boring and he is an **** about answering your questions. His tests are impossible to do good on. He picks his favs. and he thinks everyone else are dumbasses! STAY AWAY FROM DR. JACOBY!
OMG IT WAS SO EASY!!! Alot of the students were first and second year students who arent use to studying yet, but if you go to class and do his study guides it is a breeze. He gives out the EXACT questions that will be on the exam on the study guides, if you dont know the answers you can go to his office and he will answer them for you.

The people who think Dr. Jacoby is hard are dumb. I made an A on EVERY test for two semesters. All you have to do is regurgitate everything he says on his exams. It's that simple.
You either love Jacoby, or you hate him. The class consisted of lectures and taking notes. He strongly encourages participation, and your grade WILL reflect if you do or not. He makes himself available outside of class frequently. His tests are taken word-for-word off the notes given in class. If you take notes, you should be ok.
Its an ethics class and hes supposed to argue but NO ONE is right but him. He argues, repeats the same topics over and over, and tests may be mostly off the study guide but are worded terribly so you could think you studied all you could and not be prepared. DO NOT TAKE HIM
If you come to class, and if you take notes, and if you actually participate in the discussions that take place then you should make no less than a B. His tests are DIRECTLY from his study guides, which he offers to go over with you before the test to make sure you have acceptable answers. He's a great guy, and I loved his class.
Jacoby is a pain in the butt. His classes don't make any sense and he doesn't want to help you. I have been by his office several times with questions in an effort to try to understand him better but I always get told to come back another time. Don't take him if you don't already know the material.
I took his philosohpical concepts in biology class, and loved it. There is no attendance policy and he even let me make up a missed test. I got a B. He gives a study guide before hand and goes over it. Read the text assigned, you'll do fine. I've signed up to take his ethics class this spring.
His Phil of sport class sounds fun, but when he is teaching it, its boring. There are 4 tests each test with 25 questions each worth 1 point, so every question you miss on a test is a point off of your final grade. He gives you a study guide for the tests, but he tries to trick you with the answer choices on the tests
can sum up in one word: HORRIBLE... you should turn and run before you take this class
I wanted to die in this class. Horrible class. Hard to understand and test are EXTREMLY difficult. Must go to class and take notes. Buy the book even if you dont open it. HARD CLASS. Teacher is not very good. Philiosphy bites!!!
This class is not too hard. He is a very nice and funny man. As long as you go to class and take notes, you'll be okay. If you don't go, at least go the day he gives out the study guide and goes over it. The tests are a little tricky with things like "all of the above, none of the above, A&C, etc." Overall, not too difficult and pretty interesting!
I really hated this class. Jacoby is so BORING. The test are so crazy and the answer choices are weird. Do not take this class it is so stupid.
He's a cool professor, but you should always go to class. Otherwise, you will miss stuff that's on the test. His tests also tend to be hard because sometimes you get tricked with the "all of above" or "both A and B" kind of stuff. If you go to class you'll be fine.
If you're looking for an easy class, this is not it, and all the examples he gives just seem to muddy the water. I didn't find his study guides all that helpful either. Now, having said this, I did enjoy the class and did get help when I asked for it. Also, sit in the front of the classroom to enjoy his delightful sense of humor.
Firstly just because it is a intro course does NOT make it easy. He does fairly well going over material, going to class is not manditory but is a must. I missed 2 classes all semester, i asked a question durring a review he said "I guess you should have come to class." The second time I flipped and told him off. Have to be his pet to get help.
very hard do not take the class doesnt explain give hard test and really bad examples you really have to teach yourself
Challenging class. make sure that you go to classand take very good notes... write down everything that he says... i mean everything.
The man is sort of arrogant. He expects you to understand and comprehend the material at his level. It seems like he does not acknowledge the fact that it is an introductory course. Overall his exams are not very hard, and his lectures are helpful. His personality would make me drop the class in an instant.
hardest teacher you'll ever take HARD
The man has the ability to make philosophical theories very intelligible and lucid. Only the sane will do well in his class because you must be engaged in the course. You cannot blame the prof. If the masses find philosophy puzzling then it is not the prof. Trust me Jacoby knows what he is talking about and can put things in lay men's terms.
Everyone who says he is "hard" is probably the people who don't come to class. If you go to class regularly and take notes, you will do well. He gives examples that help in understanding. He ENCOURAGES people to come to his office before the test and he will help you with anything you don't understand. Great Professor! Take his class.
he is really hard!! his class is easy theres no homework but even with the study guide his tests are IMPOSSIBLE take someone else if you can!!
Go to class if not mandatory. take good notes. read the sections asked to. the tests are tricy, so need to study and understand material. he is willing to help. extra credit is given sometimes. reading and taking notes isnt enough, you really need to understand the material in order to do good on the test.
You have to write down everything he says and read the chapters very carefully. He's an ok guy but this is just a hard class. I wouldn't recommend it unless you like to argue with a teacher who has an opinion about everything.
atttendance is very important, as well discussing in the class i think what helped me in this class was i will discuss even if it did not make sense to some but it definitely did on my grades. write everything Dr. Jacoby says it will show in the test. He is not a bad teacher; class is hard i must say but i'd rather be in a class as such that an eas
Ok I went to class almost everyday and yet in still I hated this class. The worst part about the class were the 4 test. They are his only grades and they were like mad confusing and I paid attention to lectures and everything. I would NOT recommend this teacher at all.
This class gave me a headache everyday that I went to it. I hated the fact that he only gave 4 tests the whole semester, that basically said you would fail if you got too low of a grade. This class was not interesting, if your not required to take it: DONT!
He is a Ok teacher. He will give you extra help in his office if needed. He likes people who speak up in class. Only four tests. The tests are confusing sometimes. Take really good notes! He will kick you out of class for using cell phones, so dont!
This is a terrible teacher, he has 4 exams during the semester. Those are the only grades and the tests are only 25 questions. There is no room for error. I would not advise this professor.
HORRIBLE teacher!!!!! If you can choose someone else please do. Those 4 test are a killer and they are only 25 questions which sucks. Take some good notes because if you dont you will be lost
If you're not interested in the subject, I wouldn't recommend him because his lectures may be hard to sit through. I personally thought he was very interesting to listen to. There are only four tests, and attendance is not mandatory. Definitely read the chapters, and highlight the topics he stresses in class.
Go to class, take notes, read and do you study guides & you'll be okay. He's got his funny moments.
DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT TAKE HIM, very difficult, rarely writes on the bored and goes so fast u cant write anything down, today kicked a girl out for looking at her phone, 2 seconds later before she was able to finish putting her stuff in her bag he yells LEAVE, NOW!!!, 4 tests, 25q's, so each question is a point on your overall gradeDONT TAKE HIM
class is boring teacher isnt terrible but I wouldnt take him again if given the choice. DO NOT USE CELL PHONE IN CLASS!!!!! 2 ppl got kicked out this semester
He is helpful in office hours. His study guides are very helpful for the tests. If you don't miss more than 3 classes he gives you 5 points on your final grade. Classes are not exciting but he is a great teacher.
He makes the material easy to understand. only 5 exams. if you come to class pretty regularly its an easy class. reading the book helps too, it puts philosophy in lameons terms
Great teacher! I find philosophy boring and hard to understand but Jacoby is great able making the material clear. He gives study guides and is willing to help you! Go to class and you will do fine.
He is incredibly clear and tells everyone what he expects you to know on the exams. He is entertaining and provides great ways of think of philosophical problems. he is the reason I am going to minor in Philosophy. If you are taking the intro, def take him!!
I had my doubts going into this class, but overall its been fairly easy. You must take notes and read the book to pass his test. The test has only 20 questions, but the majority of them are right off the study guide, which he goes over the day before the test. Plus if you miss less than three classes he'll give you 5 points on your final grade.
Dr. Jacoby is very passionate about what he teaches. Thought I didn't find this class very interesting, he was very helpful and class was not terribly difficult. If you go to class, and take the notes you'll do fine. The Study guides are extremely helpful. I would recommend him.
Jacoby is fascinated with the subject he teaches, but you probably will not be. He attempts to make the class interesting with funny analogies and such but it doesn't really help. The class is kind of blah and tests are confusing. Please make sure you understand the material, pay CLOSE attention during lectures, take GOOD notes, and read the book.
Jacoby was not the greatest of teachers, but he teaches a very hard subject. I personally loved him. The class? Well not so much. He is very helpful though, you can go to his office at anytime to go over study guides. We had 5 tests with 20 multiple choice. ONE TIP: when hes lecturing he looks around the class. MAKE EYE CONTACT. It made him like me
Dr. Jacoby truely enjoyed his job. This class isn't the most interesting, but is easy if you take notes. His tests are short and come straight from his lectures! If you go to class and listen you'll do great!
If you go to his office hours whenever possible he will really admire you. TALK IN CLASS! He loves that, even if you're wrong! Great guy- he wants to help you.
Really nice teacher. Really recommend going to class taking good notes. Write anything and everything he says, read the book so the material is easier to understand. If you miss 4 or less he gives you extra credit. He makes this class interesting. Really recommend taking him.
I LOVED THE CLASS! Even though I got a C.... lol. READ THE CHAPTERS he assigns. Read before class and after class. The chapters are only like 4 pages long, its nothing. The study guide matches the test exactly. Go to his office hours! He will remember your name, and like you. SO DO IT! uhhh he's pretty funny, listen to him in class....
The only grades in this class are the 4 tests for 20 points each and the final for 35 points. Only extra credit opportunity is with attendance, with 2 days or less. Likes it when you talk and answer questions, makes funny jokes sometimes, hope you're interested because he talks a lot.
Dr. Jacoby is by far one of the best professors at ECU. He really cares about the subject that he teaches and wants you to do well in his class. If you go to class and read the chapters (they're not long) you'll do just fine! You can ALWAYS go to him for help and he'll do his best to help you out. Take him!
By far the hardest class I have ever take. I had no idea what was going on most of the time. He's very passionate about it but if you aren't familiar with philosophy you're toast.
He was very sarcastic and can be rude. Go to class attendance helps
You have to read the textbook chapters which aren't too long. You can't use your computer and if he sees a cellphone he takes 5 points off of your total grade. He gives very long lectures which he writes on the board only so you must attend class. He is just VERY rude, and sometimes the lectures can be hard to understand if you have never had phil
He is a great professor who is very enthusiastic about what he teaches! You can't use your laptop or have your phone out, but the class isn't long so its really not a big deal. Come to class, listen, take notes and you will do fine! If you are struggling read the book and go to office hours, he wants you to succeed!
I found Dr. Jacoby's class to be extremely hard to follow. The only grades are 20 multiple choice question tests and he teaches entirely by lecture. No laptops are allowed for note taking either. Overall, for my particular learning style, I had a very rough time for the first couple of weeks..
Only five grades. Four exams, one final. All which are only 20 questions so you miss two and you have a B. Does nothing but lecture, hard to follow, writes very minimum on the board.
Class was very challenging. All of the material for tests comes straight from lecture and reading the book. Attendance is mandatory. Gives study guides . He lectures everyday & barely writes anything on the board. Its very hard to follow due to the fact he just talks the entire time and doesn't give notes. He can be rude and intimidating.
Dr. Jacoby was one of the best professors at ECU. He is truly passionate about the subject and easy to follow during lectures. Read, go to class, and take notes and the tests and finals will be easy. He also makes study guides which are very helpful. He also offers extra credit for easy things like going to class and no cell phone disruptions.
go to class do study guide lectures are more helpful than book tests are hard not a mean guy though he can help
If you rely on memorization of terms to pass tests, you'll completely tank this class. he provides study guides but they're really just exercises to get you to understand the material. i highly suggest paying attention during lectures or just sitting and reading the book, the study guide isn't worth it. he hates phones and laptops!!
He lectures nonstop for 50 minutes and its the most boring thing ever so it was hard for me to pay attention in class. He gives a study guide for all the tests. I never read the book I just listened to what he said in class and did the study guide. You can't have your phone. He gets really mad if he sees it and he's very rude.
He is so rude. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. He in not accommodating at all and will make you feel stupid if you ask him anything. He does not care about any students. You have to go to class to understand the material and get the book. I hope I NEVER get him as a professor again.
Dr. Jacoby was an amazing professor. I loved his class. I dropped PHIL1000 last semester and took a chance in this class. It was so much easier than the intro class. While he is lecture heavy, Dr. Jacoby makes sure you know the material for his tests. He sends out a study guide about a week in advance of the tests and always has his door open.
Everything he lectures is in the book. You dont necessarily need to attend class but youre only allowed 9 absences before you drop a letter grade
I think that given the circumstances, Dr. Jacoby is the one of the best PHIL professors to take at ECU for PHIL1175. At times, he can be pretty intimidating. If you attend all his classes, read the book, and pay attention, you should make a good grade. He really covers the material well. The only grades are tests which is what makes the class hard.
There are only five tests including the final, those are the only grades. All of the tests were straight out of the study guides so make sure you do them and read the text. He does do an extra credit assignment at the end which boosted my grade. Make sure you attend class because he will tell you test questions and tells you what to take note of.
I came to class every day, I took notes, did the study guides, read the book, all of that, and this is the first C I have gotten in college. He comes in, slams his books down, and basically hates teaching. This is the first semester he's had no attendance policy and he'll yell at those who come about those who didn't come. Just an angry man.
Really thought I was going to fail the class. You must read and come to class. The tests are worded so weird and you must do good on them because thats all he grades. There is no written homework but if you do not read and really understand the material you won't pass. I studied so hard every test, stayed up all night long, and still almost failed.
Dr. Jacoby is a very passionate philosophy teacher. However, I sort of found the lectures boring. I doodled all over my notes because he repeated easy concepts 4-5x. Overall, I enjoyed this class and Dr. Jacoby was pretty nice to talk to one-on-one.
He is honestly one of my favorite teachers! His class is hard but the kids that failed are the ones that didnt read his book or didnt go to class . If you do what he says its really an interesting and good class. Lectures carry on for a while but hes always open to office hours which i have went to many of them .
Terrible professor do not take.
Class is boring lecture and the book is helpful for tests. 4 test and gives study guide. Use quizlet to fill out study guide bc its very similar to the test. A lot of this class is common sense. I would recommend taking Jacoby if you have to take this class. He gives some occasional extra credit throughout the semester.
Hardest class ever, there are no powerpoints and the material is insanely hard to grasp.
Very passionate about philosophy, but not a fan of his teaching style. No notes, just lectures and you write down what you think is important. Im an A student but I struggled in this class. I showed up every day, I wrote down every sentence that came out of his mouth. But his test are pretty tricky. the class is quite interesting but difficult.
Worst class ever. He loves philosophy, but does not know how to teach it. There aren't any notes, and all he does is lecture the whole time. He gives study guides, but they're nothing like the tests. You just write what you think is important during lectures and he tells you to read the textbook a lot. Attendance isn't mandatory. Not a fan
Jacoby is actually the worst. His attendance isn't mandatory but most of the material on his tests are straight from his lectures. He's rude and barely gives any notes. I went to most classes, took very good notes, & studied, yet still did horrible on the tests. I don't know how I managed to get a B in the class. I hate ethics because of him.
This was the worst class Ive ever taken and extremely hard!! doesnt do to many notes just lecture the whole 50 minutes! kinda of a rude person and doesnt like phones at all! I highly dont recommend taking this course
His tests are really easy. All you need to do to pass is pay attention and participate in discussion during lectures and do the assigned readings. His lectures can be boring when he reiterates the same easy points over and over again, but I found them enjoyable otherwise.
Dr. Jacoby is not horrible! He cares about your grade and encourages you to come to office hours so he can help you. Your final grade is determined by 4 exams. The lowest one is dropped. He lectures the whole class so you write notes as he speaks. I didn't go to class as much as I should've and missed notes and did poorly on tests. Lecturestests.
THIS IS THE HARDEST CLASS I HAVE EVER TAKEN. He is NOT helpful in the least. His lectures are very boring and he repeats himself a lot. When you try to participate in class and answer he laughs and always says you're wrong. His tests are literally impossible to get higher than a D on. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!
Take another profesor if possible. Tests are very hard, nothing like the study guides given. Would not recommend taking his class.
Its been a while since Ive taken this class but I personally really enjoyed the lectures. Pay attention, show up to class, read the material, and theres not much else to it. If youre an open minded person this class will be an easy A.
