VERY INTERESTING CLASS. EXCELENT PROFFESOR.
VERY BORING!!!!!!! 200 students in class and he takes attendence. Only teacher teaching the course, but it is very boring. He can talk you to death. Should be in congress for a fillabuster. Easy unusual multiple choice test, usually puts two similar answers that go together, so choose them both.
Takes attendance, and if you miss more than nine classes he automatically drops you. His reviews are helpful, and he makes it a point to have them. I must admit I have fallen asleep in his class a couple of times, but he is genearlly interesting. One major paper at the end. Take him. He's good.
Good Teacher, but he does take attendance. However his lectures are interesting and the reviews for his test are very helpful. The test are not difficult if you study your notes.
Take him. He can talk alot, but that makes it interesting. Do good on his end of the term paper, and you'll be set. Definatley come to class. He takes attendance. Don't buy the books he recommends. I never used them. Only buy the book from the copy center. That was the only one that was used in clas
Take notes on his lectures and you'll be set. His lectures mirror what will be on your exams. VERY HELPFUL! I was having trouble w/ the term paper and he was very prompt in email/willing to help. I loved his class and he had good personal stories. Great for completing Humanities requirement.
I thought he was a great teacher. He was very interesting and helpful. The end of term paper is a little difficult. but it can be done. His tests are straight from the notes and not confusing at all as long as you go to class.
Great professor, ask him question when in dough, he will answer as many as you can shoot at him. His term paper is very easy as long as you fallow the guidelines.
Very good professor. Knows what he's talking about. No need to buy the books, just the copy center booklet. Tests are fairly easy if you study. Easy to access out of class. Has exam reviews. All aorund great guy.

very thorough and he loves to have people take notes even when he has handouts
6000 word paper, ha
Yes you have to do a 6000 word paper, it is a gordon rule class...THis preofessor is AWESOME he is super funny, speaks very clearly, the tests are NOT HARD AT ALL...Very interesting class, I recommend...
He's a good professor and sometimes funny. The tests are easy but the 6000 word paper is ridiculous.
easy class- up until you have to write the 6,000 word paper. It's ridiculously crazy! The final term paper is the only thing someone might find hard (VERY HARD) about the class.
6000 words paper!!! grrrrrrrrrrrrr and the topics are the most weard things in the world! nasty.. but it is an easy A if u study
6000 word paper since its a gordon rule class...but other then that its very easy. Even the paper isnt too bad, and he grades it very easy, so even if you write 4000 words you will get a decent grade on the paper.
He so great, the tests are easy, you just need to pay attention to his class and your set you won't need to study and you'll get an A, the bad part is the gordon rule thing but at the end its not that bad
This guy knows what hes teaching and you just need to follow along. The gordon rule essay is the only thing you need to plan for or else you will fail, other than that he is one of the few professors teaching here that could also be teaching at an ivy league school.
boring
I loved him! his tests are easy IF you take good notes because if not then you won't remember alot of things that are going to be on the tests so take GOOD notes! only problem is the 6000 word paper...wow HARDERR?! yea but he's very flexible, knows his material extremely well, very helpful...I recommend him..
this professor is the best ever! not only is his class interesting but he is very intelligent and knows what he is talking about. even though its early in the morning, he wakes me up! watch for him to say AMASSSING!! alot of notes but if you pay attention and learn..the tests are pretty easy.
Wow.....if you like sleeping, failing, and wanting to leave class....this is your man. Yes he knows his stuff, ill give him that, but his tests take forever, the paper at the end is psychotic, and his lectures make the flu seem like a good idea.....
Great Professor!!! His classes may seem a little long from time to time but if you sit in the front of the auditorium you'll be fine. He's a story teller, just listen. Speaks clear, rather funny, extremely smart! His Power Points are awesome. Make sure not to miss the review day and you'll be fine on the test.
boring and no remorse. gave me a c- when all i needed was a c. The final paper is ridiculously long and pointless
Attendance is def. mandatory; if you never get late or miss a class he'll give you extra credit!! He's very good at explaining the subject but dont forget its history so you might fall asleep once in a while! The famous longest paper ever is not that hard to write!
His tests are very easy. Attendance is mandatory and crucial to pass the class. He knows his material very well and can explain anything. You'll really learn a lot in his class, great professor!
I just took his fully online class. Excelent professor, the lctures are excelent, but you have to like it, otherwise you'll be BORED! I highly recomend his online class, you DON'T have to buy the book, just watch his lectures whenever you want and take the quizes. The only hard part is a 3000 word essay... but if you start early it's no problem!
i recommend taking the online class. its very intresting and he is very fair. for the 3000 word paper make a proposal that has scope that u can write the required words. its no sweat. 3 tests that are multiple choice and they come directly from the lectures. make good and detailed notes and u will get an A
Took class online: 10 quizzes and 3 tests straight from the class module lectures. Take good notes and you are all set. Make time for the 3,000 word term paper worth 20% of your grade.
not helpful at all!
Not helpfull and does not explain things well
This class in person was a very nice class, it is not easy because it includes alot of informaton, yet if you are a good note taker it you would do fine. is a gordon class, so the paper is hard, and he graded hard. he is very comprensive, and good person.
Worst professor I've taken. The work isn't bad... don't get me wrong, I took it online b/c I have health problems, and i was able to o the 10 quizzes, 3 exams, and a 3000 word paper. But there were MANY technical problems and he NEVER writes or calls you back. He was out of contact for a WHOLE month! He's really rude! DO NOT RECCOMEND!
I took this teacher online and had a great experience. His lectures are very interesting and he seems to really have a passion for what he teaches. Take thorough notes on the lectures and you will do fine on the quizzes and exams. The 3,000 is tough, but doable. I definitely recommend prof. Lares!
Took it ONLINE. If you listen to the lectures, and take GOOD notes, then the quizzes and tests are easy. Quiz every week. Test every so often. One 3000 word paper and building of your choice. He was MIA for awhile during my semester which was annoying. Overall, easy class online if you stay on top of everything.
Beware of the monster. Took class online, you wont need the book. Listen to lectures and take the quizzes (10 of them). Tests kind of hard. The 3000 word paper is not so bad. He can be really harsh and mean when grading, he thinks he deserves a Nobel Prize for how hard he worked in college. Pretty easy class overall.
awesome teacher - always in contact with students via emails - very helpful - class hard but with good notes not impossible to get A
The tests are simple if you study but the paper is horrible. If you are the type that does not like to write long papers, do not take the class. UPDATE: Took the class again fall of 2006 after I failed it in fall of 2005. Received an A.
Ok so the class isn't really that hard if you just listen to all the lectures u shuld do fine. Now that 3000 word paper if you're the type of person that hates writing papers DONT TAKE THIS CLASS but if you dont mind u shuld be ok. He's very arrogant and can be rude tho. He does think he deserves a noble prize or something what's his problem...
3 tests, one paper (2500 words), each 25% of grade. DO NOT BUY TEXTBOOK, waste of $. He teaches through video lectures, WATCH THEM AHEAD OF TIME!! Each video is 35-60 mins and it takes time to take notes. I suggest printing the powerpoints and marking them up with notes. Overall, nice class.
Very straightforward directions. Just try and do all the quizzes, that will help u big time when it comes to doing the exams. And u do not need a textbook whatsoever. Got an A in this class. Easy
I hate this guy but the class is easy. He isn't helpful and is just plain rude. His lectures are extremely boring, take notes on everything because sometimes the most random things are on the test. There is a 2500 word paper but it's not so bad, i only wrote 2300, turned in my proposal late, and still got an a- so as long as you focus you're okay.
Took this class online. I like the way he teaches. He is clear and to the point.
Took class online. Good class, hislectures are fun. Exams very hard but if you paid attention in the lectures and have good notes, you will pass with flying colors. Term paper is long and his fedback hurts sometimes. If you put your best, he notices; if you do a mediocre job, he notices too. overall:just pay attention and do your things on time :)
He is rude and boring. His class is boring if you are into architecture then obviously it will be fun but otherwise: BORING. Took it because I needed a humanities...not the best choice. Took this class online and he answers all questions and ect but rudely. I wouldn't say his class is an easy A but a boring B.
Took his History or Architecture Class online because I needed the humanities credit and I am thankful I did. I found this class to be one of the most interesting classes I've taken so far besides being one of the easiest. I only played his recorded lectures the day of the test (while taking notes) and Aced all of them. I definitely recommend it!
Took online, we had 1 paper and 3 exams. hes a very passionate professor! exams are somewhat difficult all answers have two parts so if you miss one of the two the questions is wrong. class notes are lectures are a must, listen to his lectures & take notes in order to pass the exams.
Do not take this class. Makes it seem easy because you don't need the book. He is rude and not helpful.
Do not take this class. took it to complete my humanities requirement. Hardest class i have taken at FIU so far.
I took it for my humanities and writing online and he was not bad. Yes the lectures can be boring but this class is easy if you just take notes. His quizzes are not mandatory, I took them for practice. 3 exams and only 1 paper. I recommend. Very convenient.
Very easy class, I don't know what you guys are talking about. Just watch the videos the day of the test and you'll get a good grade. Also, all humanities classes make you do at least 2-3 papers and this one is only one.
Not an easy A, you need to listen to his lectures and take DETAILED notes, if you do that you will get an A or B. The tests are 25 multiple choice questions. Each question is 2 parts and if you get one part wrong the whole question is wrong. He is very helpful and gives extra credit. the class is 3 tests and one paper.easy A paper if you put effort
His lectures are very boring but informational. He is willing to help, gives extra credit. His tests are extremely hard! Two part questions and if you get one wrong, its all wrong. If you must take this class online write everything he says word for word. There is also a paper.
EXTREMELY boring! If you are looking to fulfill a humanities requirement please take a different class. The lectures are ridiculously long and the tests are OBNOXIOUSLY hard: each test question has two answers and if you get 1 answer wrong you get the WHOLE question wrong. I totally regret taking this class!
Easy class.3 25 question exams. 1 paper. Do not need the book. Lectures are in videos. If you watch the boring lectures and take good notes the test is easy. However, he is hard to contact. you may email him with a question and not get a response for a week. I cannot get any help from him because he does not answer questions or give good answers
First of all, this is a teacher LOOKING to fail you, so be on the look out. I had written a paper that was slightly outside of his requirements (Which are virtually impossible to follow correctly) and he closed the paper without reading it. Clearly a teacher looking to fail students. Pathetic.
Took it online. Never met in person. Nice guy, little dull but very clear and straightforward. I took screenshots during his video lectures so I would have some of the images to print when it came to test time, very very useful. Took a basic hist of arch, pre-historic to about baroque (listed as intro to design) or some such thing. Don't know about his other classes but for this, DON'T BUY THE BOOK. I didn't open it a single time. One paper, quizzes and a couple tests. Pretty solid.
He is a great professor ! I took this class online and it was really easy, you do not need the book at all! just take notes while watching the video lectures, if you just try to remember them you will fail the tests !n over all easy class
VERY VERY rude, not accommodating at, takes forever to grade things, and does not explain anything. HE is awful stay away
Put in the effort and you will easily pass the class. You must take detailed notes and review his study guides! Also gave 1 extra credit opportunity which was just to attend a lecture.
He is sarcastic and condescending in his e-mails but he is generally fair. He is also very picky with his Essay. 3 tests with 1 essay. Listen to the lectures, take notes and you should not fail. The tests can be hard though because each question has more than one right answer. But overall, just TRY and you'll succeed.
Class isn't terrible until you get to the last paper. He is extremely picky and if every last detail on your paper is not perfect he outright states you will get a zero. He wouldn't accept the proposal for my final paper because he didn't like the sources I cited. He has a thousand details pertaining to the paper, be sure to do every last one.
He is fairly easy. I mean if you watch the lectures and take amazing notes you'll ace the tests just fine. The essay is very very picky so make sure you do well. I would recommend taking this class though because it's easy to juggle with other ones and doesn't consume all your time. Just make sure to watch all the lectures before the test.
His tests are hard as you have to take very good notes and pick 2 answers for all his multiple choice questions. Essay is not hard
Three exams and one final paper. the lectures can be lengthy but if you watch them and take notes you will the exams for sure. this class is easy to manage just make time for the video lectures and the final paper.
If you need a class for Humanities w/ writing, take this. I don't like Architecture but I found this class entertaining. There's 4 tests online & a paper, but they're really easy & he provides feedback on the paper. Never used the book but his lectures are clear and he provides reviews. He's a really organized online teacher, loved him!
Lectures are thorough & clear. Follow syllabus & you'll pass ( exam dates & term paper deadlines) Print lectures, view them, take notes & ungraded quizzes; 3 exams have outlines. Focus on highlighted materials, listen to the modules again and reread your notes. A very interesting course. He's fair, helpful, & communicates well. I love his class.
Professor is very organized, gives a week-by-week syllabus at the beginning and follows it, light course load, what he expects is clear and his grading system is very simple... 3 exams and a term paper all equally worth 25% of your grade... Once you take the first test you will get accustomed to the style... Didn't have to buy the textbook
Very good teacher and very nice, keeps you updated! very on top of material as well as is very educated in the subject of ARC!
Class requires you put forth time and effort - 3 online exams and one paper. He provides power points (highly recommend you print them out) and lectures that go along with them. They are long but if you take really good notes you should be fine. Exams are multiple part questions so it's easy to get the answer wrong. Make sure to meet all deadlines
Is not an easy class. You have to put in effort and time. Listen to his lectures and print the power points. No need to buy a book. The professor is helpful and answer emails.
Weekly P.P lectures, P.P handout material is extremely helpful: writes notes and use it as a reference for your (3) exam’s. Follow paper proposal instructions for the Paper submittals. No book required, exams include multiple choice & identifying parts of the structure. Don't leave Power points for the last minute. I recommend this class.
Took online. There are 3 test each 25 questions multiple choice and one 1000 word each worth 25 percent of your grade. Study and take good notes on the lectures the test are easy. If you don't study however you're screwed it's not the type of class where you can just guess the answers. Didn't use the book. Great teacher wish I could take him again.
3 exams. one 1k word paper. If you don't listen to all the long, boring lectures you won't pass. The material is actually interesting, but he is sooooo boring. He goes off on tangents during his videos and on multiple occasions his irrelevant stories are misinformed. His exams are word-for-word his lectures, but the format makes the exam 10x harder
Dr. Lares is a very fair professor. The workload is very fair for a humanities class. For the tests, make sure to take VERY clear notes labeled by building and time period. IF HE SAYS SOMETHING IS IMPORTANT, IT IS. Tests will be a train wreck if your notes arent great. Print the pictures as well. Follow every guideline for essay and you will do wel
This is not an easy class, but if you study you can pass it. I love architecture, and this is an interested class. I learned a lot with Prof. Lares. He always answered my email the same day I wrote him. I really recommend him. The online class is easier than on campus class. Good luck
He is OK. Very knowledgeable on the subject. The exams are easy if you really pay attention to his lectures and write EVERYTHING down, what he emphasizes on will definitely be on the exam. He is unnecessarily picky in regards to the final paper. Read his 10 page guidelines and follow them strictly, and you should be fine. Moderate difficulty.
This guy is a GOOD professor, but! If you are a bad test taker, Do NOT taker him. The entire class is only based on 4 grades which are 3 exams and 1 written paper. The lectures are actual lectures, you do not have to read, instead he talks about it on video. Take as much notes as possible because the tests are tough!! Take him. Good Luck!
If you have a question about ANYTHING you're own your own. He's just going to tell you is to check his syllabus. Want some clarification on something in the lecture? Don't even bother asking him because he's just going to tell you to rewatch the whole over. Not helpful at all, & lectures are boring and long Do not recommend online
Lectures are LONG but slightly interesting if you like architecture. His tests are nearly impossible. Best way to pass this class with flying colors? Meet in person for every test with a group of classmates and take it together.
Lectures are long but if you take detailed notes you will pass the 3 tests (he provides great outlines for tests). Only one paper that has very specific guidelines but generally easy (1000 words). Not an easy A but if you do your work you'll be fine. Don't bother buying the textbook, this lectures are very informative.
Lectures are long because he likes to go into detail about the layout and orientation of every building. Really easy if you PACE yourself. If you tend to procrastinate a lot, you will do terrible. Take good notes and pay attention when he talks about the different architectural elements of each building. Makes up 90% of the exams.
I feel I learned a lot of history of architecture with him. I watched his videos which are about 3 videos a week of less than 1 hour length. The readings are optional. Three major papers and the quizzes are straight from the videos. Quizzes are essays describing buildings . Definitely take him. It is a very interesting course of history!!!
If you take him online, he will take three weeks to answer anything you ask him. He is not on campus, and overall does not want to do his job.
He takes forever to grade anything and respond to emails. His grading is somewhat random, copies and pastes feedback to people and gives them different grades. 3 long papers about the same building so pick a good one. 4 1-hour long lectures and a quiz per week. Just meet the word count and format right and you'll be fine. Don't procrastinate!!
Worst professor I've ever had hands down. Disappears for over a month and goes out of his way to Ignore questions and messages from his students. When he does poke his head out, his attitude is aloof and unhelpful. Writing prompts also show how lazy he is. You have to write about the same subject 3 times and you'll def run out of steam. AVOID!
gives no HW or extra credit, only gave proctored exams (3) and that was it. First time I've ever seen a teacher do that. do not take this class unless genuinely interested in the topic.
