He's NOT really 150yrs old, nor married 5 times. Crazy about surprise quizzes and in class excercises, but the material covered in pretty easy.
Liem was a good teacher, but you have to have a philosophical mind to enjoy his class. There were lots of people who just didn't get it.
He is a very kind and nice teacher!
Very funny nice guy. Told our class he was 72 years old, then a few weeks later he was 74. He loves apples, he'll sit in class eating them the whole class period. All tests and quizes were open book and open note.
aside from his somewhat corny humor, he's a pretty good teacher. he stresses the fact that he wants all his students to understand what's going on... so don't be shy to ask questions. his tests and quizzes and finals are all open note, open book.
Easy to get an A, just put down anything on topic to get credit. Intresting class, but seemed very disjointed; Lacked structure and clarity.
Lectures are good. Sometimes he is hard to understand due to accent. He writes good notes on the board though. Does not allow open book or notes in this class. Looking for a synthesized answer of the material. Read the material multiple times. Funny!
Liem's class is filled with lots of lecturing, but that is to be expected in a philosophy class. While he does challenge you to think philosophically, the main focus is on the development of metaphysics, epistemology and ethics (if you get to ethics).
Great professor with humors, class may feel long but worth the while sitting through class, interesting class with easy grade. highly recommend for those that are looking for a laid back class for the semester.
Really wierd. Lies about his personal life, not that we need to know any of it. He has a thick accent that I don't understand (and I grew up around thick accents). He excpects you to think his way, but I guess that is how it is with philosophy. I didn't like the class, but most people seem to.
He never keeps his promise. His behavior is like communist. If you are beautiful girl, you will get a good care from him. Otherwise, ugly girls and men get bad things from him. He's really a BIG LIAR
at first, i thought it was going to be an interesting class, but his lectures are so boring. he could be funny, sometimes. just do all your work and you'll basically get an a.
Awesome teacher. So good I took 3 classes from him. I wish I could have more electives so I could take at least 2 more of his classes. Yes he does "lie" but only to illustrate points through stories and jokes. I guess some people don't get him. Watch a movie, and multiple choice tests are 3 option.
He is awesome. He is great at teaching, knows exactly what he is talking about. He makes his class so easy, Quizes are a great way to get some extra points. All his exams are open book and open notes. He rocksss...
awful, accent to thick, unclear
i took it over the summer and he was really easy i mean yeah he has an accent but it isnt too bad and he talks a lot about his personal life but it only keeps you awake cause he always refers to sex but overall he gets the work done and lectures only whats based on the test so yeah it is easy and not bad i recommend you take him over the summer.
Highly recommend to take his classes. He's a nice teacher. He will give you straight questions on the tests, that's very nice of him. He's a kind person. YOu'll get good grade in his classes. Just do your work
Great teacher.. has an accent, but he is normally pretty clear. Very funny, helpful, and cares.
Funny guy, taught the lessons well and made sure you could understand them. Very highly recommend taking his Philosophy classes it will expand your mind!
Highly recommended, Funny teachers, though sometimes hard to understand from his thick vietnamese accent. He makes learning fun and involves the whole class
Really good teacher if you wann pass take him + funny
super fun, easy as long as you do the work and points are so easy to obtain and i wish he taught more classes but he only teaches 2 and took them both. over the summer he isnt as kool but gets lazy so points are always free but he's entertaining during regular session.
Very easy teacher. Strong English accent, but he is very nice. You should take with him
Great teacher! Fair grader. His humor keeps the lectures lively.

He makes the time fly by with fun lectures, which helps. He thoroughly explains the material; take good notes 'cause most of his quizzes/tests are based on his lecture. I hardly opened the book in his class. Took his class over the summer and passed with an easy A. I came out of his knowing a lot of philosophy…honestly!
he's a good teacher !
He's a very nice teacher. Take notes and you'll get a good grade.
Great teacher...makes the class so interesting...you do need to get the book though because it helps you in the quizzes..take all his notes because you will use them on a test...he lets you use the book and your notes for quizzes and test...overall great class and you do learn a lot...
This Professor is very fun. Highly recommended - he's fun, although at times if you are a female you might feel a little harassed by his sleud comments. Besides that, he's helpful and clear. Open note, open book quizzes and tests. A very, very easy "A"
he is a very nice and funny teacher. test are all open note, open book. Just go to class, participate and you will get an A.
Professor Liem is extremely easy. All his quizzes and exam, he lets u open book. I took his class in the Spring of 2005. Great guy. It will seem boring first, but when you are half-way semester, the class is fun fun fun.
awesome teacher, his class is way cool and interesting. I never know that Philo 10 would be that fun.
I took his Phil51 class, and I have to say he's one of the best teachers I've ever had. He's changed my whole perspective on life and religion. Now I'm taking Phil 60 with him in summer. 60 is not as "deep" as 51, but extrememly easy. He always lets us out early yet I learn a lot from him.
Mr.Liem likes to talk about beautiful women and makes jokes... "it didn't bother me." He's pretty funny. Don't think that just because he seems easy that his tests will be. Mr. Liem will prepare you for the tests because he wants all his students to pass... Oh! and he likes to eat sushi :) Ha. Ha. Ha.
Funny teacher! Test are a little hard. AWSOME!
Great teacher, funny, take notes and attend class and you should get an "A"
I relly like the way he teachs us. He is a funny teacher. Just come to class and you will get creadit.
this guy is chill and cool. Totally down to earth, funny and helpful
Great guy! He has a sense of humor. Material is straightforward. Just do the homework, and study your notes, and you'll do fine. Class can get boring b/c he stands there and you just listen. He gives you breaks or lets the class out early. I recommend him!
Mr. Liem is a very good teacher. He cares about his students success. He is funny and makes the subject matter interesting. I would recommend this teacher.
Extremely easy class. Hard not to get A.
Great teacher, pretty easy class, just be there and pay attention. He's funny too! He loves what he teaches. I highly recommend him!!!
he was one of the best professors of mine at SJCC. If u wanna learn n come to class daily, its not too hard to get an A. I got both As in his 20 and 60 classes
I had a fabulous time learning from Mr. Liem. He makes rather boring subject interesting. I looked forward to attending his class on weekly basis. What stands out from his teaching is that he geniunely wants you to learn the concepts. Great Teacher! I give him A+
His metaphysics class is far and away the best class I have ever had. I definitely would recommend it for anyone. I also had him for phil 60 and was rather disappointed, as that class was way too easy.
He is really a knowledgeable teacher I had never seen before. Things that he teaches are helpful and reality. He's always begin by some jokes. He's funny and nice. I'm highly recommend this class for everyone.
I recommend u come to class to understand the lectures and u use the textbook part of the time but overall, he tells u exactly wat u need to know and the midterm and final r straightforward and based on the lectures. Pretty easy class as long as u show up, and he gives out hw but it's easy and comes straight from the text. Great prof for philosophy
There is really nothing left to say. He wants every student to succeed, and goes out of his way to ensure you do. He has a great sense of humor and presents the material in an interesting fashion. I highly recommend him. His grading policies are extremely generous.
Lectures are super clear. He makes the subject interesting. He gives extra credit for the simplest things, erasing the board, reading a sentence out of the text book, bringing in jokes (he loves jokes), finishing a quiz early... No reason why you shouldn't pass this class. Super easy! Take this class
Great teacher, always keeps the class interesting with his humor. His lectures are more clear than learning from the book. Will not move on until the whole class gets the material. Very reasonable grader. Just go to all his classes and do all the homework. Exams are open note, open book. Will be taking him again for Phil 10.
Very interesting man. Sometimes, he makes the sickest jokes, but he has the charm and good will that it hurts nor offends anyone. If you don't get an A, there is something seriously wrong with you. Not many instructor at SJCC has sense of humor. For his case, it is a good one
Funny, interesting, and intelligent.
He's AWESOME! Very intelligent (; Recommend him ALL THE WAY! Very easy, he just lectures, you take notes then use them on tests (:
The most beautiful man I've ever met!
Awesome professor! Very smart man
Easy class, but he top prioritized his fellow Vietnamese!
Great instructor. Recommend. Made the course fun.
If you wana pass Philo60 with a good grade , then take his class. He's one of the easy teacher in the planet.
took mr. liem during the summer. easy if you pay attention n do hw. had took 2 philosophy class before, but after taking mr. liem i finally understood philosophy. Great teacher, very worldly and learned alot from his jokes. made us come out of our shell which none of the prof that i have done that which is very caring.
Mr.Liem is a funny guy and easy-going. He likes to tell us dirty-jokes and make fun for the whole class. Just pay attention and you'll be fine. Easy A and I meant it. I recommend take this instructor as soon as u can
Fun and interesting class. The teacher is a nice guy who keeps his lectures entertaining. There is a regualar schedule of HW but it is very doable and he is not a harsh grader. I really recommend taking this class, you'll learn plenty about philosophy and its not a hard class.
I love this guy ! if u dont get at least B> there is something wrong with you !
He has a vocal voice. Very nice person. You will absolutely learn a lot of things from him. he makes classes interesting and easy. Highly recommended
EASY CLASS.You have easy homework to do every week, nothing more:)
Awesome teacher, take a recorder to class cause he has some hilarious stories. We learned a lot...though not always on the subject. He tends to go off topic very easily, but it's funny. There's a midterm, final, & weekly one question hw's. To get the most out of class sit in the front & enjoy the show!
Mr. Liem! This guy is 100% and then some!
He's OK. Would I take his class again? Yes, I think I would.
nice teacher and entertaining..little unclear about grading process...strong accent
Very funny, knew what he was talking about, and made it interesting! There is a paper if you take it during the winter (not sure about regular sessions), but it is very easy. I got an A in his class, and I knew absolutely nothing about philosophy! If you don't get at least a B, there is seriously something wrong with you.
BEWARE Philo majors! I know there isn't many of us but if you are at all interested in really learning about the existentialist philosophers know that you will not learn much in this class. The best lectures came from VIDEOS. Absurd. You will, however, learn a lot about the prof's life & his Astrology class & will probably get an A.
Took for existentialist philosophy. Such a cool, deep, down to earth teacher. Missed a lot of classes and still did well. Treats it like a real college class; tells lots of crazy life stories and hilarious jokes and gives a lot of super deep lectures - definitely keeps you interested, you almost never space out. Really fun, cool class.
His test is so hard. No extra credit at all. He does not care about his students except his fellow Vietnamese.
Easy teacher! Try very hard to keep the class entertaining, and interesting. Generally if you take good notes, and go to class everyday you will get a easy A!
Awesome teacher! Keeps us all interested in philosophy. Entertaining and profound at the same time. Effcient use of time. Great lectures with hilarious jokes. Best philsophy professor I ever taken. Highly recommended!
Professor Liem is a very good teacher. He gives you every opportunity to succeed with extra points given for particiation in class. He also reviews before tests. He jokes around a lot too which kept the class involved, entertained, and interactive... I would highly recommend him for any Philosophy course...
Very funny guy! You won't be bored in this class. He's a pleasure to listen to and genuinely wants his students to succeed. I highly recommend him. Take good notes, don't miss class, easy A.
He is a nice guy. Little homework, about 1 or 2 short answer questions from the book. 2 tests which are midterm and final. Grade is weighted heavily on the 2 tests. But both multiple choice. Takes attendance come everyday. Not a hard class. Sometime you get to leave early. Very fair grader.
Very informational for those whom have a strong interest in Philosophy. If not, attend every class, he does not return homework, but returns quizzes. No study guide for mid terms and finals, only tells you what pages to read. A recorder maybe helpful. Overall he knows what he is talking about and very knowledgeable of the material and he is funny.
He is awesome. I will definitely take philosophy 60 with him again.
I took all my Philosophy classes with Mr. Liem and he is so helpful and funny as well. He makes the course so easy and he always encourages students.
Took this over summer, very boring class. Very few important concepts that you need to understand. All tests are open note and book. Also homework everyday so don't slack off, you need to book to do the hw since the problems are in the book. Watched a couple of pointless videos, he can be hard to understand but he is very funny.
The class is tough. He is a good teacher.
Lecture based. Will say whats on midterm and final as going through. said we'd do a term paper but he never mentioned it later on. hw from book but you can just use the one in library. easy class and relates phil with his own experiences. DEFINITELY TAKE HIM.
I loved this teacher, he was inspiring. He taught me a lot, was easy, but tests were difficult. I got an A,
Amazing professor. He made a very hard subject easy to understand. If you o to class and study what he tells you to study, there is no way you can fail. He is absolutely great. I highly recommend him.
Sometimes difficult to understand. He gets off topic a lot, which was a little frustrating at 7pm when I just want to get home, but always entertains and at least TRIES to tie it back to his main point. Very little homework and always easy. Tests were not usually on stuff from the book, so take good notes on his lectures.
He is not that good but not bad either . If you are Vietnamese then take his class otherwise you may wanna think again . He tends to get out of the subject a lot with jokes and stories . Funny if you are taking class for fun but if you wanna learn you may want to skip that teacher .
-hand writing was horrible -cant understand everything he says -class is super super easy -his jokes were funny -should teach not speak on all religions
his girlfriend jokes are hilarious LOL i love his class :D (open notes and books during test time)
book is needed for the class. at first his lectures are hard to understand but he will explain it over and over till you get it. very easy professor and class was fun. jokes around a lot. easy A. open book and notes for the test. 3 quizzes, 1 final, sometimes weekly really easy hw. reccomend his class
One midterm and one final. Hw every week. Baisically you wont know ur grade until the midterm. Questions were super confusing. Pretty much the only thing that counts is test and if u do bad ur screwed
Dr. Liem's class is my favorite class so far at College. One midterm and 1 final. Open books and notes. If you go to class everyday, it is so easy to get an A. All questions are from his lectures. He doesn't use any powerpoint at all and his lectures are not too long but are to the point. He is hilarious and his class is fun and interesting.
If you want to learn Critical Thinking and not feel too stressful about Critical Thinking, take Dr. Liem's class. He gives you a lot of chances for extra credits. His class is interesting, I never look at the clock to see what time the class is over like many other classes. I learned a lot from his class. If you go to class everyday, you'll get A.
Mentally old fashion in terms of what jokes he thinks are appropriate. Offensive jokes are the norm with this teacher and his lectures are trying to be funny but if you are a philosophy major or will be using a lot of philosophy, I would highly recommend you skip him. He does NOT follow the respect code the college promises.
He does give weekly homework but it is really easy, he gives you the chance to stay on track extending due dates at times. He is very inspirational as he often discusses about certain aspects of life that we often neglect. The use of the text book really helps but I personally have only studied from notes and passed the class without any problem
He is one of the best professors I have ever taken, I love him so much even though he thinks my name is Monique (its not) haha but he is so kind and believes everyone should get an A.
He crack lots of jokes. Lots of homework.
Professor Liem was hilarious. Dont take his class if you cant handle a stronger sense of humor. Homework was easy and just graded by completion. Quizzes are open book. Loved this class
Hes pretty funny but he can say outlandish things at times. He once wrote MAGA on the board and didnt say anything of it. We didnt talk about politics that day so it was slightly weird. He lets the class have discussions and he doesnt takes sides. Hes very lenient about peoples grades. You can find the textbook online for free.
With classes being online he doesnt teach anything. Hes a cool guy tho
Professor Henry Liem is an easy class !! There is no zoom meetings for this class and he provides the textbook for the class (free pdf). Every week, he will assign one assignment from the textbook or lecture video for you to watch. Do the reading from the book and you will pass :) !!
