Dr. McKiven was one of the worst teachers I have had during my time in college. He is extremely hard to reach outside of class, and you often have to email him numerous times to get the feedback you would like. His lectures are very poor and require lots of outside-of-class work to understand what he is teaching about. Very poor teaching ability.

NEVER take his class. Lectures are impossible to follow and quizzes are extremely hard work some of the quiz questions are not even in the lecture material. Insane amount of reading out or the text book each week. He does not put any effort into helping students at all & expects u to figure everything out yourself. Just DONT take him!!!

Many of the negative reviews on Dr.Mckiven I've noticed come from people who are "LAZY." I'm taking him for a 400 level history course and sure it's demanding but compared to the other high level history courses at South he's easy. Basically do summaries most of the time.

I've taken two of his classes. Both were easy for a 400 level but still informative. Mostly you watch lectures or read books and then complete a summary. A lot of the negative things are from the lower level history courses he teaches but for upper level he is one of my favorites.

His lectures are so boring. He talks very slowly and has long pauses to wait through.

Online summer class: His lectures are long but you can put them in 2x speed. There's more quizzes, tests, discussions, and exams than most classes, but most were easy. There is 2 extra books we had to read in addition to the textbook. There is a lot of assignments so if you do bad on something you can make it up.Its an annoying class but its easy.

For a gen-ed class its very difficult, not because the material is hard but how his online lectures are, they are very long and not cut down at all and information can be repeated sometimes and he pauses a lot in sentences so it makes it hard to pay attention a lot of the time, I find myself constantly rewinding find out what he said.

This class can be a real slog, but the Unstuck AI study tools helped me stay on track. Lectures are dull, but attending is a must. The workload is intense, but if you put in the effort, you can manage a decent grade.

This professor is one of the most difficult I have had here. The most annoying thing is that he assigns a 2-3 page summary but wants 4-5 pages of information. At the beginning of the semester, I was making D's and F's on 2-3 page summaries because I was "missing important details". If you want 4-5 pages of information, assign that. Not 2-3.
