he's a very easy and nice teacher, but im still having difficaulty on the subject
Very nice person, very good teacher. Statistics is a very hard subject for most. He's fair and helpful. I'd recommend him to anyone needing to take Statistics.

very helpful with a difficult subject. really prepared me for math 95. Has a good sense of humor and made math fun. I really reccomed him to anyone who is having a hard time with math.

He is very helpful !
I recommend highly taking Henry for Statistics. He is clear, patient, and entertaining. I normally loathe math and he made it fun. If I had to take 244 for my major, I couldn't think of anyone else I'd take it from.
He is the best statistics prof out there! No kidding! He is so helpful and wants you to succeed. He only tells you what you need to know and why and has an awesome sense of humor. I can't say enough good things about him!
I was afraid of math until I took his class. He is patient and really cares about his students. I would choose him as a teacher above all else.
Fun guy, very down-to-earth. I enjoyed having Henry for two terms of stats. It's a pretty complicated subject, but he explains things well and goes slowly during subjects that gave past students difficulties. I'd definitely recommend Henry for Statistics.

Henry is the best stats teacher! He provides many sources of information and really explains concepts well. He wants his students to suceed, but he makes you hold your own. He is funny and makes class interesing. I'd highly recommend him!!!
Excellent teacher of statistics who easily establishes rapport with the class. Shows a genuine interest in the material and in teaching the material. I was dreading this class, but not anymore! I recommend this teacher if you must take MTH 243.
HARD - required a term paper - for math!!!???
Absolutly terrible class. Henry talks to the board, so if you sit behind the third row it's impossible to hear him. Laughs way too much at his own jokes and really isn't that funny. Class material is fine, but the professor makes ithard to sit through.
He is an excellent teacher! Statistics is a very difficult class but he teaches it in a way that you can understand. He breaks it down and then ties it all together in the end. Not an easy class but he teaches it well.
Henry is a great instructor. He is willing to spend a lot of extra time with you if you need. Highly recommended. Not the best subject though!
Great teacher. Lectures the full class period. Writes everything on the board to ensure clarity. Hard and confusing subject. Book mostly theory so you must copy his problems/solutions off the board to understand homework. He posts most homework answers on-line; otherwise you probably couldn't solve problems. Class requires a lot of study time.
Extremely thorough! This was a very hard math class. He is a fair teacher and grades accordingly. I was worried I might get a D, but ended up with a B. I would recommend this class, but be prepared to work your ass off.
Easy class for the first 8 weeks, but then after that it's all downhill! He gives you answers to some homework on his website, which is good! His test are fairly diffcult because you don't know what will be on it! His study guides are not very useful because they aren't actual study guides, but more like "know what a binomial is"
He's a caring instructor, but he sticks to his game plan throughout the term. He will not give any ground on helping you improve your grade. This class with not be a free good grade, so study HARD.
Very nice guy! He is quite the character, which helps to keep your attention during lecture. He is very understanding and approachable. However, He tends to go off on tangents a lot which can confuse you. There were many times where I was lost the entire class. Test can be hard if you don't do all the homework.
Henry is a good instructor. He cares about his students and their success. He is very clear about his expectations and follows through. He is as helpful as he can be. However, he does seem a bit burnt out and/or overworked.
He's very clear and straightforward. And very good at explaining things. He can be a bit silly, but that's okay.
I took Henry for winter term and had a terrible time with his method of teaching. If you think you can learn the material on your own then take his class.Henry is always trying to make jokes that aren't even funny. His method of teaching is poor and needs improvement.
I love Henry! He has a great personality and makes class kind of fun cuz he's a little goofy. I do not recommend taking his class if you do not have the time to put into studying-a lot. He makes sure that students are comprehending the subject matter and he wants you to succeed. Show up and pay attention!
This class is MUCH harder than 243; but henry still makes it possible to learn the material. Show up and pay attention and put in a lot of time studying. Do not take this class if you are a slacker; do take this class if you actually want to learn something.
Henry was not very helpful in class and didn't explain the material well. I wouldn't recommend the class to anyone that can't study on their own to get an A in the class.
Statistic is a totally different school of Math. I have to say, in PCC, he is one of many Stat teachers that can explain subject well + in a interesting manner. Lot of answers, videos on lectures provided for replay. This is a college class. If you skip class and not do homework, don't expect him to babysit you. Free tutoring is provided too.
He is a great teacher. Explains the subject well and is very patient. You will need to study and apply yourself in order to do well. Its not a class you can breeze thru. Thoroughly enjoyed his teaching style. Would highly recommend him.
He's a great instructor who likes to tell crispy jokes sometimes, but overall he explains everything very well. I would highly recommend him.
Henry seems to ba good teacher, but the subject is not easy. Make sure you have plenty of time to study the material. I have to withdraw, but I will be taking him again next term!
Henry love this subject. There are easier Profs at PCC. Henry will overwork you, prepare to spend 12+ hours outside class minimum. This is too much for a 4cr class! If it is the only class you have and you enjoy teaching yourself the sections you do not have time for in class go for it. That said if you want to dig in you will learn.
Okay teacher. Hard class. Has 2 writing assignments, for a math class! Tests are somewhat hard, make sure you print study guides and know everything on them. I had to self teach a lot using youtube and other videos, he moves pretty quickly
Henry is such a delightful teacher. He is extremely patient and will answer any question with attention and enthusiasm. He's pretty funny too, and interesting, having a Cuban heritage. I highly recommend him for what otherwise could be a boring, strenuous class.
He is a phenomenal teacher! He explains very well in class and also puts all of the reviews online, including all of the hw answers for you to learn on your own. EXPECT to study hard, about 8 hours between classes. IF you do your homework, read lectures online, and attend class, YOU should get an A in the class.. YOU need to put a lot of effort tho
Enthusiastic, funny, and energetic teacher; he lectures fast and furious. He is very organized and answers questions quickly. Don't miss class, do the homework! He has a website to augment his lectures. He's a nice guy and Statistics is surprisingly fascinating. Homework takes forever to do. Keep on top of it! Definitely taking him for Stat II.
His class is way harder than it should be. Homework takes forever to do and tests are difficult. The upsides though is that there are no quizzes and the homework is just an effort grade. Henry is also a really goofy guy (in a funny way) and is always enthusiastic. His lectures are very good and understandable. My only complaint is the book he uses.
I took this instructor based on commments here. He has changed, except for the goofy sense of humor. More is more is his philosophy. I read, watched videos and did homework. In the end, I do not understand much more about statistics than when I went in. He is vague, does not directly answer questions and makes it complicated. I no longer care.
So disorganized. Stuff everywhere, My PCC, spot, Blackboard. Yikes! Too much. Needs to be more clear. Doesn't Answer questions directly. Can't link concepts to problems. Friends in Klang's class know more and do less. Nice guy though.
I have a knack for learning stats. That being said, Mesa is one of the best teachers I've had so far at PCC. He's the opposite of a typical monotonous math teacher - funny, interesting, lighthearted. Looked forward to attending his classes and the workload is very doable, but you do need to put in the time to learn the material. Highly recommended
Probably the most dedicated teacher at PCC. He seems to really enjoy teaching and it shows. He makes everything more understandable, posts lectures/videos online(very useful) and jokes around a lot. However, he gives a lot of work for a 4 credit class. Lots of homework, somewhat hard exams, and 2 essays. Be prepared to work and don't slack off.
Got an A, learned nothing. New teacher is better this term, but I know so little compared to others in class.
Come to every lecture, or you'll miss out on the many nuances of this subject. Mr. Mesa is very passionate about statistics. Excellent teacher.
talks too much, does not help with questions. tries to "combine" text, so questions in text make no sense. covers nothing in class except jokes. too disorganized. just nonsense.
Awesome teacher! If you have strong mathematical skills prior to this class you will do fine and will enjoy it. You must put in about 6 hours a week into the homework to ACE the tests, but this is indicated in the syllabus. Ask questions!, Do the reading, but above all don't miss a class!!!!
Henry is passionate about the subject and he has good intentions but... he is ALL over the place. When I asked for help his responses were so scattered that I was always more confused when we got done talking. I am now taking it with someone who is much more direct and the class is much easier. I do not recommend Mesa for ppl who struggle w/ math.
This is my second review of Mesa...His class is not for the math challenged, nor computer challenged...The reason for my second review is that he taught me soo much about excel and its formulas it made the rest of my business curiculum a snap...like my last review go every class!! & take him for 244. Also pay attention, dont sit in the back&facebk
It looks like my first review of mesa never made it here. as your can see below I loved him. He is a great teacher, in fact one of the best math teachers i have ever had, and ive taken 111,112,231,241,251,252. You will gain skills in this class that you will never gain with another teacher
Amazing teacher! I took stats online and he was actually able to make it interesting! I thoroughly enjoyed the class because I actually understood the material FOR ONCE! Plus, he's got a sense of humor which makes stats a little easier to handle. The moral is: Professor Mesa ROCKS!
I had Henry for Stats 243 and 244. By far the best teacher I've had. I feel he is very clear and offers numerous options for learning each section of material. He offers videos, power points, work sheets and his time to make sure you succeed.
My bf loved him in class, I took online and WOAH! Not for students who struggle with math/computer skills. Skips around the text, forgot to post the midterm until 2 days before it was due, says "My way is better than the book" a LOT but is hard to understand via email. I wish I would have taken the real class.
Worst "teacher" ever. He doesn't teach from the book, just talks about how terrible stat textbooks are and tries to teach using these horribly constructed modules he's made that have at least 10 spelling and grammar mistakes. He has things due throughout the week which makes an online class very difficult to follow. Worst teacher i have EVER had.
Bad online teacher. He is not a good speller and he has no sense of grammar. If he just knew how to use a comma, I'd probably have done very well in this class.
Highly recommend. He's very nice and really funny and a good teacher. He takes time to make sure you understand material and provides a lot of different tools/methods for solving problems. Gives a few take home exams and lets you use formula sheets for in-class exams. Lenient on HW grading and fair amount of HW assigned. You wont regret taking him.
Worst online teacher ever. If you are going to take his class, make sure its not online. Does not know how to spell and rarely uses the textbook. Has the most random due dates and is very inconsistent.
Mr Mesa was super nice and knows the subject well, but as he puts it Stats is foreign... And I didn't make the cut there. It's a tough class and not a simple here's a formula lets do math. It was never the math that threw me off it was the concepts that made no sense.
The course is hard but doable if you keep with it. There is a lot of content to read and found it helpful to read do some homework and read again. The course I took was online so it helped to be involved in discussions. Do not take if you are a procrastinator. Need to be self motivated.
I've taken quite a few online classes and this guy is hands down the worst instructor I've had. I'm in the middle of the term and regret not reading the reviews before registering. He goes on tangents about irrelevant things that cause you to lose your train of thought.]. If you watch his videos you'll know what I mean.
Do NOT take a Statistics course from this professor. He will teach you the most backwards, manual, and confusing way to do things. He doesn't ever teach you how to use the calculator to perform even the BASIC calculations statistics requires, instead requiring you do EVERYTHING by hand. NOT HELPFUL.
Mr. Mesa is a super nice guy and he will definitely do his best to help you out if you need help, but trust me you will need help! He really tries but his explanations are so confusing and backwards! I feel like I don't get much out of his class and have to teach myself quite a bit outside of class.
Statistics is definitely not algebra and Mr. Mesa does a good job of getting that through to you. He is a little all over the place at times but he will definitely help you out if you need help and he does a good job of connecting all of the concepts. Just be prepared to read. If you don't read the chapters you won't do well.
Make sure that you keep up with the class, and you'll be fine! If you have a background in statistics, you definitely do not need the textbook at all. Study guides are a good indicator of what will be on the exam.
If you want to get a good score don't take this class online with this instructor, even though he is helpful when you ask him a question, the class is all in text so be ready to read your eyes out!!! Also, he only looks at test scores so if you were active in class, but happend to have a bad day on final too bad, he only cares about scores ...
Yeah sure there is a lot of reading. This is a hard class and it's 5 credits, you have to put in time. The difference is, he has taken the time to explain it the best he can in an online situation. Also he cares and tries to help you get it. He is involved which is rare. Take his class and take it seriously. Also a good prof if no excel exp too.
He graded tough and I wouldnt recommend online math
Does a great job of making a boring subject (stats) interesting and tangible for students. It's a hard class (duh its stats!) but he does a great job of explaining thing during lecture and really taking the time to make sure you understand. If you need more clarity just ask and he is happy to help. Read that book though, its a hard subject!
Would NOT recommend taking this class online. His PowerPoint presentations are written as if he recorded a lecture and then typed it up. There are grammatical mistakes everywhere that make it extremely difficult to follow his train of thought (too many run-on sentences that will drive you mad and make you lose focus on the material).
I 'm taking his class now & his lecture notes for online classes are HORRIBLE! Rambling & confusing notes and for a subject as precise as math, this does not encourage learning. He writes all his assignment, quiz and exam questions and too much time is spent on trying to figure out what he's asking b/c the writing is so bad. 2 exams are proctored.
Explained concepts very clearly and connected them to funny joke/stories that helped me understand the class better. He's very clear about he grades and communicates very clearly.
Good luck, None will survive! does not review tests, no homework, you learn nothing, tested on alternative theory, no prose, you will regret this decision...
DO NOT take his class online. The lecture notes, videos and PowerPoints are lengthy, confusing and unhelpful - he rambles and goes on tangents and constantly provides confusing interjections; all of these make for a poor online class. He manages to make a boring and confusing subject even worse somehow. His due dates also have no consistency. BAD.
He gives homework that "is not graded" but you are expected to write in discussion each week about sed homework. 4 tests; two are proctored with no book or notes. The two proctored exams are worth 50% of your grade. Final exam prep sheet says that its to prepare you for 244. Well, for those of us who do not have to take 244, not helpful.
I took this course in a classroom setting but felt as if it was an online course. He would send HW via e-mail with multiple e-mails and attachments that were due the following class period. He was also confusing and did not explain the material very well and his print outs were difficult to understand due to so many grammatical errors.
This is instructor was one of the most unclear I have ever taken, he is unavailable 99% of the time. Provides no feedback for tests and homework, if you are a genius in stats take it. But for someone like me, who is taking stats for the first time AVOID this teacher. He is extremely confusing and doesn't even present problems to you correctly.
He was super available outside of class and was hilarious in class. He uses a lot of jokes and metaphors to help visualize the topic. He's a tough grader but he gives you tons of resources for different learning styles and will work with you if you're having trouble. Absolutely loved this class!
Statistics is probably a very difficult subject to teach, but the way the information is presented by this professor makes it way harder. He starts of introducing new concepts by giving counter examples and saying what the new idea is NOT. He seems to want to make students treasure hunt through long winded explanations in order to find what we need
It is clear that he cares. But his method of teaching isn't preferred. I would say if you can teach yourself complex material, you'll be fine. Otherwise, I would stay away. He sends out homework each day of the weekend that is due Mon (i.e. Fri, Sat, Sun morning). you will not be the one managing your time. Class average was a 71.4%. Good luck!
He tells you at the beginning how unavailable he is, and then explains how theres like no stats tutors at PCC. Then goes on to send you a million emails and expects you to teach yourself because there simply is too much to teach. If you are taking this as a weak math student, you wont make it. I was a 4.0 student until this class; dont do it.
He definitely cares about students success, and he tries to portray the material in a way that's accessible to all but he often gets side-tracked and will talk about material we haven't even learned yet and expect us to understand. He asks us to read ahead, but 2/3 of the time wont let us know what to read. Hard subject taught in a confusing manner
Stats is a critical thinking type of class; he expects you to know this. You will do an overview of material in class, then be expected to go home and connect the rest of the dots (teach yourself a little). Tests are blank application problems; study hard. He loves his students and is a very caring individual. Be thankful for profs like him.
Prepare to teach yourself 90% of the course, not even exaggerating. He explains everything that the subject is NOT in class, and expects you to go home and figure out what it IS. Do not do this to yourself unless you LOVE teaching yourself very difficult material because you will either FAIL or ruin your GPA. Ignoring this comment? good luck.
Don't get me wrong, Prof. Mesa was a very nice guy. However, the way he taught us stats was very complex- I had to take LOTS of notes, and then watch videos online to help grasp concepts better. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend taking his class- I ignored the reviews already on here, and then had a highly stressful term.
MTH 243 is a course that you simply cannot survive by repeating what a teacher does in class. The course is full of nuances that you must understand more than superficial. An example is independent events. At first I thought easy enough viewing the definition. But the questions posed varied enough that I needed to really understand it to apply it.
Continued from below. If you are now believing that I am making this course super hard, I do not. The textbooks, point out the nuances, but I also emphasize these nuances knowing you need them to succeed. This course can not be treated as "See-and-do" you must understand. I also treat you like a college student and have high expectations for you.
This was a very hard class for me. I had heard stories about people taking statistics (just in general... it's hard!) and was worried! Professor Mesa made the class interesting and I found myself enjoying it much more than I thought I would! Be prepared for lots of homework, but that's not a bad thing... it'll help you learn the material!
The way his lectures and notes written can make what he is trying to relay a little difficult, but he is super caring. He gives great feedback because he really wants to make sure you understand the course. My tip would be to just pay the extra $15 for StatCrunch. It's absolutely worth it.
Do not take him. He is so unorganized and does not give back tests for a while. He does not put in grades, so you will never know what your grades are. He does not teach the class at all, so I had to learn all the material on my own. On top of that when he tries to explain anything in class, his hand writing is so bad, you can't read anything.
I would never take his class again. He is not a good teacher and when you ask him a question he cant even answer it. You never know what your grade is because he never enters in grades. I had to learn all the concepts on my own (I cannot learn this way).
I took his online course and thought he was a very engaged professor who was highly responsive and wanted his students to succeed, and really liked the subject. The intro stats course online had a large volume of work but if you did the work you understood the topics and did well.
I took this as a flipped class and it was great! He was accessible outside of class and took the class with us. He did all of the homework problems and notes just as we had to. It was an enjoyable class.
Although Henry seemed like a nice enough individual, I cannot recommend his class. Henry's teaching style was hard to follow, course content was difficult to navigate, and due dates followed no pattern whatsoever. If math doesn't come naturally for oneself, I would strongly suggest choosing an alternative option.
Considering dropping this class and I never drop classes. For the first week he has us reading 4 chapters, completing 3 quizzes, and 4 hw assignments. That is a little over the top. I am in his online class with no lectures. His writing style is extremely confusing and he is not straight forward in instructions.
Probably one of the most miserable experiences taking an online class. It was really frustrating trying to understand what method of solving satisfied the problems we had to solve. There were also so many grammatical errors and unnecessary jokes thrown into the notes instead of info that would've been nice to know, especially in the power points.
Don't take his online class. He wasn't understanding at all and I struggled in his class so much and he took it as me not caring. Whenever I emailed him a question it just raised more questions than it answered them. I'm a Freshman and my GPA was ruined right off the bat from this class.
I was disappointed with Henry Mesa as a Statistics instructor. His lectures are poorly written with significant grammar and syntax errors, which made it difficult to understand the information. I feel like most of the learning I did was through outside resources and figuring things out for myself. Be prepared for a lot of head-scratching.
Very nice, but terrible teacher. Taught course out of order. Demanded we use his notation instead of textbook or online homework notation. Like taking 3 classes at once. Horrific grammar in his "course content" which was entirely different from the textbook. Homework used a third notation. Way too many video lectures. Abandon all hope ye who enter
Any professor that has a one page document in their content as to why you shouldnt take their class is terrible. Every teacher has a warning of some kind in their syllabus, sure but his was littered with how his class and his way seemed near impossible to pass. The first week he has us doing 4 chapters, with quizzes and home work. Start off slower
He is a very caring but an absolutely terrible teacher. He taught the material out of order, had inconsistent due dates, and overexplained everything. All of the learning I did was through teaching myself using other sources. He made this class needlessly difficult. Avoid taking this class from Henry Mesa if you can.
Stats 243. I wasn't expecting it to be easy. You have two Mathlab homework every week, one written homework every week, and one midterm and a final. I did not learn from the material provided. Learn how to use GeoGebra you will rely on that a lot. Lots of opportunities for late work, you get 5 late passes. He answered my emails promptly.
Although attendance wasn't mandatory, you HAVE to participate in order to understand the material. This is not an easy class, but Henry brings wonderful energy as a lecturer so if you stick to the material and study the notes, then his class is perfectly doable. beware, he has a tendency to over explain questions so be as specific as possible
Teacher won't give a straight answer when asked. Formula sheets offered for proctored tests were inadequate (no headings or descriptions) and don't compare to the real world where you have tools with you to solve problems. Concepts are foreign (difficult), workload is heavy; so don't take this with another heavy class. Would not take teacher again.
Mr. Mesa is amazing. I had a personal situation that made it difficult to get work done and he worked with me and ensured I didn't drop the class. He cares about his students for sure. Just be ready to put in lots of time and studying to learn the material.
Henry Mesa was a great teacher and extremely helpful. He wants his students to succeed and the class is extremely detailed and easy to follow along with in-depth videos weekly. I had not taken a math class of any kind in 3 years and managed to receive an A despite the class being fully online, A large part of this was simply because of Henry Mesa
Because of outside circumstances, I had to take an Incomplete for this course. Mr. Mesa allowed me to do this and was super understanding. He also checked in with me many times and worked with me to be able to pass and get the grade I wanted. The class is a lot of work but if you put in the time, you should do well!
Seems like a nice guy but his lecture videos are DRY and hard to understand because he mumbles and jumps all over! I have to look for sources outside of class because he doesn't break down difficult processes clearly. He has videos from other professors that are easier to follow. He's responsive via email and encourages students to reach out.
Mr. Mesa is a nice guy and can be helpful at times, but his lectures are dry and boring. He records them as if they are for an online class, and barely teaches the class, which makes it hard to pay attention and learn. Might as well learn the material on your own. Unclear review as well, the answers contradict what he previously taught the class.
Henry is a great professor. His lectures can be a little dry, but the content is fairly easy to conceptualize after only a couple minutes of lecture. Homework consists of online assignments, a written assignment, and weekly quizzes. Lots of learning opportunities and makes stats approachable.
He has lots of homework, but classtime is just homework time, and the lectures are videos, which I love. He explains heavy concepts super well and breaks them down, which is an incredible ability for teaching.
Professor Mesa is tough but fair. The workload is heavy, but he wants students to succeed. Using resources like Unstuck ai, ChatGPT, and the textbook helped me understand the concepts. Attend class and put in the effort - it pays off with a good grade.
Ok, so Mr.Mesa is a great teacher and loves to help you. All he wants to do is make sure you understand the content and go deeper with class work, not just understand it, but to master it. One thing to know is he's all about formatting and knowing the material. Even though I had a C, it's only because I didn't take what he was saying seriously.
