Made class very fun and took off the pressure. Exams were multiple choice. Used real-world examples, many from his experiences.
This guy sucks. I spent way too much money on a course that I would have learned more by reading the book. I could have taught this course better -- and I have never done any marketing before in my life. He eats it.
awesome guy.
He's a fun teacher! Very laid back and wants to show you real examples to make the class applicable to post college years.
yes its a fun class, and you sit there and listen to him tell stories and dont take notes, but im not really sure im learning anything. doesnt go over the book at all, then midterm is from the book and random powerpoints he makes. he wants to play "who wants to be a marketer" for our final...hmmmmm
Rodkin is the man. He knows his stuff and gives you real world examples of marketing. He is even willing to help students out with resumes. Overall he is one of the best teachers I have had at DePaul and I would take him again given the chance.
I had Rodkin for Discover Chicago so we had like ZERO work to do. He is really interesting, really funny and really nice. I can imagine he is a great prof for his other classes. Really wants to be helpful and wants his kids to learn. Incredibly nice man, really worth your time!
Hank's a great guy, he's always willing to help explain material, provide guidance with your projects, and is easy to approach- an excellent asset for DePaul to retain.
Take 301 as a night class you'll rarely stay until 730-8, he is very intelligent and a good techer.
Dont take this proffsor he was so bad that next qurter he said he was going to give 200 multiple choice ?'s on three test and thats your grade very hard Stay Away!!!!

Hank's a great guy and a wonderful asset to DePaul. I had him recently for Independent Study and he we met bi-weekly to look over my paper-which was not required by him . He's really selfless, willing to work through your obstacles, and is capable of making anyone smile. Take him if you can.
sooo easy and carefee. basically let us do what ever we wanted.
Easy "A". Best teacher !!!
Rodkins the man, he's so down to earth and relaxed. He doesn't make the lectures hard or the readings. It's all totally managable. It's an easy A and the marketing game you play is easy and fun. Totally reccommended for the summer, trust me you NEVER stay the full class time.
His class was pretty easy, no exams just the game and grade based on it.
He seems like a nice guy but considered a jerk. I think he sucks as a professor. I tried really hard to like him. Just reads the slides realy fast. For some reason with me, I would try to do well with papers and he would take away as many points that was worth. Very unclear with me. Disagree with his grading system. Didn't teach the class anything
he's hilarious, insightful, and smart. he makes his class fun and respects and cares a lot about his students. not to mention: he knows how to say the word "crazy" in 30 languages... enough said. its all smiles with Hank.
The best teacher I have had at Depaul. The class went by extremely fast, 3 hour night class, was done in an hour and a half, I would have stayed longer. Rodkin keeps your interest and makes things fun. You really have to screw up to not get an A.
I absolutely love him! He is the best teacher that I have had at DePaul and I hope that in the future, I have him as a teacher again. He is a sweet and friendly old man and you can tell that he truly cares about his students.
This guy is seriously a living joke. Night class never went more than an hour and a half, I never read a word in the book because the midterm was open-note and the final was "Who wants to be a millionaire"-style. I also think he came to class ****, but that's neither here nor there. Easiest grade ever.
He should be the next president of the united states of america.
best teacher ever! midterm that is not too bad and pizza party jeopardy final that you automatically get credit for just showing uP! great teacher. loved it! get out early every time - night class was only an hour and a half.
One of the best teachers at Depaul. Not only does he know what he's talking about but he goes beyond the classroom and gives great advice and help if you ask. Take him you'll value the class!!
Easy A. He has a lot of experience in the field and a lot of good stories, but I sometimes felt that I should be getting more out of a grad. level class, esp. since I'm paying for it myself. The longest class was 2 out of 3 hours. Grade based on mid-term, computer simulation game, and showing up for the final. Very little reading, no homework.
He's a nice guy and his class is easy, but I too feel that I should be getting more for my buck. 2 papers at the beginning, a midterm, and a final (which is basically one big joke- you get one powerpoint question).
Seems like a heavily succesful man. However, the class was nothing more than an easy grade. I didn't walk away knowing more. If effort was put into it, you would learn, however your learning wasn't enforced with work. Marketing to Hank is common sense, not cumbersome words that try to make more of the easy subject. Class as a whole was a breeze.
You'll get an A, but that's actually the only thing that you will get from this class.Since practically everyone gets an A, it's unfair to people who show more effort. So if you bust your a** off in the New Shoes while your team-mates are scratching their behinds, be prepared that they will get the same grade as you will (you guessed it-an A).
If anyone thinks he is an automatic A, let me assure you it is not the case! You will earn an A if you show evidence of learning the materials; otherwise your grade will suffer. That is FAIR and anyone who thinks Rodkin is a pushover is in for a rude awakening!
great prof, fair and learned a lot
Very helpful and his experiences were applicable to class. Classes were short and allowed time to work on group project. Very nice.
This was an extremely easy course - more of a dissertation of one man's applicable experiences in marketing rather than real theory. At the grad level, I would have been disappointed in the content if I felt the class should have been value added. Rodkin makes the material entertaining my making it relevant.
This class was very easy!He dsnt take attndnce. You write 3 papers, each 1page long,& they are really easy. Ex: explain what SWOT is. ALSO- class never got out past 8pm, usually we were out by 7:30pm. so really you only go for an 1 1/2 which is great! AND midterm take home, and final was easy-he tells u the questions and essays that will be on it!
It is a very easy class. If you take a night class, you are out by 7:30. Only two assignments the first 2-3 weeks of class, after that no HW. Mid-term was a take home and Final was easy (if you studied.) Laidback class and prof. The group project (newshoes) you will do fine, if your with the right team. Overall, great prof!
I really enjoyed this class and his enthusiasm. The material was very useful and I utilize this in my daily work. Overally, he really was a great professor. His exams were not difficult, but were very useful. Great professor.
A broad-based approach that includes a computer simulation, terrific lectures, and some helpful homework. A very understanding teacher worth taking!
Worst professor I’ve had. Learned nothing. We never did mktg plan, which is most important part of intro mktg class. Main project had potential to be interesting great experience, but poor organization and lack of direction made it meaningless and frustrating. Only cares about saving face and his image, not students! Avoid him!
Rodkin ROCKS! He tells great stories and can breeze through more than 100 slides in about an hour and a half, including a 10-15 minute break. The simulation game was so much fun. If you apply the principles you learn in class each week, your team will do fine.
Excellent subject matter expert. May not deliver content real clearly at times. Good personality.
Rodkin is aMaZiNg!! He loves trying new things to help you out as a student. If he thinks that class is getting rough, he lightens up a lot...he also makes sure that his students are well taken care if we do a project with external partners. Food in class, get out with an amazing resume too! A for sure!
Easy for a masters degree class. Stratsim was fun excercise. Not a lot of grading: Midterm, stratsim and in class final. Not sure if I learned as much as I hoped for a graduate level class.
Not a stressful class AT ALL!!If you want an easy Marketing class, I suggest you take this one. I didn't learn much, but he is entertaining and really nice. Grade based on Midterm, Final, and StratSim project. All are easy.
I hated this class. I work in marketing and the material is very easy to understand, but the professor rattled through 150-slide powerpoint presentations and didn't encourage class participation. The simulation exercise was a complete waste of time because he gave no direction. It is an easy class and not a lot of work, but he drove me nuts.
Here is a professor who wants you to truly learn and understand the subject. He is non-adversarial, helpful and an excellent resource. The simulation we used is a challenge, and anyone who thinks otherwise is probably unbalanced
Brand Management is not always an easy topic to teach; I know, because I am one and I took this course and learned a tremendous amount. Rodkin makes it entertaining and timely!
If someone wants to write something that is not positive about Rodkin, how can the writer claim to be "in marketing" and take this course which is essentially for people with no marketing background...? More "mean spirited" thinking from another jerk I guess!
midterm was open book b/c the class said they wanted to so he gave it to us.final was easy game. Class is a joke! no homework and his stories are quite funny. For our class he didnt like the project people so he dropped our whole assignment and gave everyone 20 extra points. DEF RECOMMENDED
Nice guy. Simulation assigment was useless and a bit time consuming. If you don't care to learn much on the subject and you're looking for an easy A, then Rodkin is your man!
He is awesome!! Marketshare is easy and getting an A is easy as well. The midterm was open book and the final is going to be a Jeopary game. he said he forgets who answers the questions right anyways so everyone gets A's. I did learn in his class a lot about marketing tactics. Hes extremely lively! Take him!
TAKE RODKIN. YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT! SO EASY ITS LITERALLY A JOKE! INTERESTING LECTURES AND MIDTERM WAS OPEN BOOK CUZ THE CLASS ASKED AND HE SAID YES AND THE FINAL IS A GAME IN WHICH THE CLASS ANSWERS QUESTIONS AS A GROUP....SUCH A BREEZE!!!!!
He is tells alot of stories that relate to certain marketing tactics. All his lectures are powerpoint slides. Got out early every day to finish group project.
Easiest class I have ever taken. We had an open book mid-term, which was massively curved. We played a group game that took ten seconds to finish. We took a one question final that everyone got an A+ on as long as you spoke english. Somehow, I attended every class and got an A-. I think it was because he would be fired if everyone got an A+
Really cool guy and easy to talk to. He has soo much real world experience in the field. That said, this class is sort of a joke. All powerpoint based but his stories can be interesting. Open book midterm, final was a joke, but I did learn something. Nice easy A if you have a tough schedule otherwise.
Rodkin is a good professor. He explains marketing in a humerous yet informative way. The simulation was fun.
If you like his entertaining style, you will miss it once the class is over. The simulation is a lot of fun and you will learn the effectiveness of marketing tools. If you utilize the tools and know a little about FIN you can rock the simulation. Hank should grade harder for people which don't do well on the sim or don't bring in European candies;)
Rodkin is a great professor. The grading in the class is very subjective but in the student's favor. There is a take-home midterm, StratSim online marketing game, and the final. You have a week to complete the midterm. Take it seriously. Make sure your team is paying attention to your StratSim performance. Get to know Rodkin. He's good stuff.
He's not easy anymore. He's cool but he got in trouble with the Dean for giving a all of his students A's. Now he has a strict scale and makes his students purchase a $60 worthless computer simulation as well.
He tells you what he wants. Open book mid-term. Group activities are easy and fun. Attend class and participate and that is basically what you get graded on. The greates professor at DePaul for sure!!!!! Highly suggest to take him!!! He's awesome. And you really do NOT need to buy the textbook, just print the outlines from blackboard
Greatest class I've ever had with a stream of outstanding speakers, topical material, and great lectures. If you do not understand brand management, however, you may think this ex-P&G brand management person is a bit off the wall...he isn't@
This was a required course, but Rodkin made it so interesting and comprehensive I loved it! We used a simulation along with the lectures and readings to understand Marketing fully
Rodkin makes it seem so easy you hardly realize you are learning until the class is over and you see its applications in business!
Absolutely a world-class course with guest speakers virtually every other week, a challenging brand management simulation, and a broad spectrum of ways to manage brand with success!
You can't go wrong with taking Rodkin, awesome, helpful, and really fun class. i never in my whole career at Depaul for undergrad and grad went to a class for all ten weeks, i always manage to miss one. His class was one I looked forward to going and have attended all of them. He gives a lot of information on companies and their MKT strategy.
Very easy class, he's very seasoned in the subject, and he's very willing to assist students succeed. All that said, I can't recommend this class. He runs through 100+ PowerPoint slides a class and reads every word on them. There's a useless simulation exercise with little direction. In the end, I didn't really take anything away from this class.
Mr. Rodkin really wants his students to succeed. He is willing to help with anything, especially resumes. His powerpoints were long, but he made them interesting and used real life examples. Take him if you can!
Rodkin is a very nice guy who will help students with anything. He goes through 180 slides in 2 hours. Almost always got out early (it was summer session though). His midterm was fair and his final was "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" game. B/C it was summer, we had to write a short papers each week. I enjoyed going to class and him as a teacher.
The presenters that Professor Rodkin brings in are outstanding. The case studies are also very interesting as they show how to apply the concepts that you learn in class in a real business setting. Very knowledgeable man with an impressive career path. His class would improve if he relied less on powerpoint in order to engage the group.
Professor Rodkin is passionate about the subject, engaged the students and treated everyone with respect. However, he was also pretty laid back; therefore, the class was not very challenging. Should be an easy A. I very much enjoyed the Country Manager simulation and got most of what I learned from the class from it.
One of the best professors at DePaul. Class is interesting/informative. He does not stress you out at all. Class consisted of a simple assignment, midterm, Tribute project (not very hard), and a "stress-free" final that you dont even have to study for. Aside from being a good teacher, Prof. Rodkin is quite the funny guy. Best choice.
All around good guy. Loves marketing and his students, always willing to help. Sad to know he is retiring soon. He was one of my favorite professors at Depaul.
Marketing 555 is a fairly easy class within the MBA program ... it is not a quant class. You must have intelligence since you attend DePaul KGSB ... each one of us should earn an "A" no matter who teaches MKTG 555. Rodkin brings relevant marketing stories, case studies to the lectures. Sense of humor is ...dry, quick witted. I left with knowledge
Brings in a lot of speakers which is nice to hear real world examples. You will get out early every night, which is awesome. Lectures are a little old and could use some new examples. Has a tendency to ask questions then interrupt students to give his view. Overall a decent class.
Tuned in to the real world, and a class enhanced by speakers who are doing what I want to do when I graduate!
A required course, but he lets us see how this discipline can contribute to our success in the future...not boring in any sense! Why aren't there more teachers like Rodkin???
Awesome...best professor so far, and even though he ended the class in the hospital for surgery we were still "in the loop" via our Blackboard website, enabling us to review every lecture!
I will probably get my first major job thanks to this class; the array of speakers and the scope of lecture topics have made me a prime candidate at two of the companies represented by class speakers...an awesome class led by an excellent and experienced professor.

This is a class designed to give an overview on marketing; if you are then interested, you go on to take more advanced courses, but the depth and scope here is terrific regardless!!!
The class and professor made me want to pick up Marketing as a focus for my MBA. Class was extremely engaging and fun. Although this was my 2nd class as an MBA, I'd be shocked if I found a better professor than Rodkin. There are a lot of handouts so get your printer ready.
So far Rodkin has been the best professor of the DePaul experience. He is thorough, no BS and really knows the stuff. I would take a professor with Life experience over a PhD any day of the week, and Prof's like Rodkin drive the reasoning behind that point home.
This guy knows his stuff, and will not coddle anyone...expects students to make decisions based on facts not fancy (brains not guts!, and I realize now that "brand management" can mean more than just a consumer package good...if it has a brand, its our focus! Loved it!!!!
A little bit easy to students whose major is MKT. However, the simulation provides another chance to prove your ability. I think we did not use the textbook frequently. Mid term is 25 multiple questions. No formal final exam.
Took him based on his other class ratings but his marketing 360 turned out to be very difficult.the final and midterm was very lengthy and tricky.the case Studies were things students from harvard read.the quizzes on the case studies were very difficult
I was hoping to take a BS course to fulfill my global business perspective requirement. I was expecting to graduate this quarter with a high GPA, but this class knocked it down. It's a very difficult course and the concepts are hard to understand as it's an international marketing course. Don't understand why we need to know this info..so hard
Hard course way beyond just talking about cultures! Important to know, however, and worthwhile info on shipping logistics, management policies, etc. I urge anyone interested in international to take Rodkin and this course
Everyone in class expected this to be a blow off class. Some people even emailed Rodkin asking so to which he got offended. Then, he sent out emails telling people who were in it to fulfill requirements to drop class. I thought he was joking but it was a tough class. Would NOT recommend. Very difficult and he cant teach.
