very hard teacher, very hard to understand
Hard teacher. I think he knows his stuff but he has a hard time getting it across to the students. He is very personable however and very funny.
he has a great personality but he wants you to know everything to deep level and makes his class challenging. He is very funny and interesting
he is a very good teacher. he does expect you to know a lot but he provides a review and his test come straight from that. rely on the tutors. i took it over summer and did good so don't be to scared. you will learn micro though.

He is super nice, and very kind. He is incredibly interesting. I would totally date him.
his class was like a baaad dream. by the end of the semester, everybody should be able to interpret DNA sequences! yeyyy.
drop it before the semester begins!!! i got an F not because i was uninterested but because it was plainly uninteresting. i cannot deny the fact however that dr. su has a really great personality. but then we don't take micro to form good relationships with professors. we're there to pass the course and get over with it...
GREAT personality. Class is hard, but not impossible. YOU CANT SKIP CLASS. Test is all lecture notes and it's not multiple choice. The easiest thing to do is buy a voice recorder, go back and type out your notes. If you just use the notes from the class, it mite be a little difficult. He's not easy. But micro is a hard subject. 4 tests, 2 practical
i got 3 words for you... FIND SOME1 ELSE!!!
Don't waste your time picking this this class. It is too boring. You'll drop it the first week
He is extremely nice, but has essay exams that are killers.
Essay Test, Not short answer!!! I aggree with person before in 3 words FIND SOMEONE ELSE!!!!!
Very difficult to understand..No multiple choice..Essay only..Find another teacher...
i don't know what his problem is. yes, we all know he's smart and he doesn't have to prove it. do what everybody's saing FIND SOMEONE ELSE!!!
He is unbelievable!! I am a typical A student but i still got a B in class. His essay type exams are really hard and he doesnt care how many people drop the class!! We were nine people end of semester!! Do not take him if you can!!
likes to play smart on u..his second test is a killer. he is silly and hard... unless u really have to take his class then avoid him
Dr. Su is brilliant in his field of Microbiology research. The difficulty of his class stems from his desire for students to understand "why" and not to just memorize facts. One semester is hardly enough time to gain a true understanding of this science. Dr. Su teaches some points very quickly, and you just have to keep up. He does explain well.
Wish he was faster returning grades. Good teacher. Not very prompt so not sure where you are in regards to grade.
Dr. Su is a very intelligent man. His tests are not that hard as others have claimed them to be. Essay tests are actualy easier if you think about it because he gives you partial credit and even if you get the answer wrong, if you explain your reasoning, he will give you the full credit.
Dr. Sue is a great person and has a great personality, but the way he teaches is hard, challenging, and confusing. He contradicts himself all the time. He tells you one thing at the beginning of the semester but then changes it in the middle of the semester. He doesn't give you your grades back in time if you want to drop or not either. I do not rec
Very funny man.Over Half the class dropped! You don't know your grades until weeks later therefore you don't have a chance to drop the class! Reviews given does not pertain specifically to the exams given. Essay style exams makes the grading unequal. It?s up to him to decide if your answers are good enough.I donot recommend taking over the summer.
DROPPED AFTER FIRST EXAM, CANNOT UNDERSTAND HIS TEACHING. I ASKED QUESTIONS BUT HE JUST TELLS A STORY, BUT DOES NOT ANSWER DIRECTLY. HE IS NICE, BUT JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW TO EXPLAIN THINGS WELL.
Dr Su is a nice man, very smart. His class is VERY hard! It is all essay question and he never stays on track with what he is talking about. If you are super interested in microbiology or if that is your field you would like to work in, he is the perfect teacher for you. ALL OTHER STAY AWAY FROM HIS CLASS!
He's not hard, just don't expect to pass without doing any studying. It's Micro, not Psych, after all. He makes Micro very interesting and I still apply what I learned now that I am in the nursing program. Explain your thought processes on exams and you will be fine. Excellent instructor, very interesting person as well. I got an A.
Henry Su is very hard,I studied the power points, book, review questions and notes from class. He never answer a question direct, he wants you to figure it out. Would not recommend this instructor to anyone whoes not already familiar with chenistry.
Although I like Su, he is a very poor lecturer. In fact, I dreaded every lecture. He skips around in lectures and it is hard to follow his train of thought. Also, his lectures do not align very well with the textbook. His exams, all of which are short answer based, are rather subjective. Best part was lab. Do not take if possible.
He is super hard. DO NOT TAKE. He gives a useless review. Did not help for test at all.
He is not that bad. I have an A so don't think it's impossible. Yes, he is hard and he will be the first to tell you. Study his powerpoints, never miss lecture, the review is a MUST, and you only have to read certain topics he talks about in the book. He is nice, funny, knowledgeable and will help lead you to answer your own questions.
Dr. Su is nice and willing to help, his tests are really hard and you really have to study if you want an A. Attendance is key, no book necessary his note are enough to get a good grade. This is not the class to take if you want an easy A.
Not hard...just requires effort. You MUST attend class and recording lectures is key. He uses key phrases "get that?" or "understood?" during lecture on topics that will be on the test, so take note when listening to your recordings. All test questions come from lectures and notes. Grades fairly and gives extra credit. He's also funny!
DO NOT NEVER TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOU WANT TO LEARN AND PASS!!He knows microbiology well, I don't know if he carelessly or purposly leaves important information out. That mess up your learning and understanding. Read the book. He should not be TEACHING! He plays nice.He practices favoritism.
HE IS VERY SMART AND WILLING TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS. IN ORDER TO PASS THIS CLASS YOU MUST LISTEN TO HIS LECTURES AND TAKE NOTESPLUS READ THE BOOK IF YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND SOMETHING.HE IS SMART AND FULL OF STORIES TO HELP YOU UNDERSTAND. HE HAS A GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR.
Very nice teacher. However if you have a full time job do not take Dr Su. His tests are very hard, lots of memorization. Do not miss his lectures.
I should have listened. Never has a class made me want to cry till this one. Hard, not helpful, skips around ALOT, all over the board, you will have NO idea whats going on :( of the 27 students n my class I think 2 were catching on a little! Enroll early and take a diff prof....He is just to hard to follow n understand :(
No No No No!!!!! You have been warned!!! I habe 90 college hours and a 4.0 a prof has never made me want to rate the until this guy...so just to be clear......NOOOO!
What a crazy class...had 2 drop. test r WAY 2 hard. lectures dnt match. No structure, never know what he is talking about. teaches his non majors class like hard core majors. goes over class time EVERY SINGLE day about 20-30 mins...HELLO some of us have jobs...wanted 2 aply 2 rn program but now I can't bcuz his teaching is sucks
Teacher is way to broad. Very hard instructor. His test~HA!!!!! Noth corrilates. You seriously have to understand micro inside out and in depth to maybe make c in this class. And he will tell u very fast that he will fail u and that taking micro twice I often better! (So I guess he enjoys failing students)
When I signed up this fall after reading the reviews I was scared, now Im glad I took his class. I love Dr. Su. He is caring/funny/smart. Micro is not an easy subject period, any prof u take will b tuff. I believe the bad reviews came frm students who didn't try b/c Dr. Su is AWESOME! Only 3 wks left, I will miss this class :(
Henry Su is the worst instructor I ever had. His exam are extremely hard. His explanation is not clear at all. I don't recommend this instructor to anybody. If you have option to take somewhere else do. He is a horrible instructor.
Awesome professor, he really cares and wants to make sure you learn, not just memorize and regurgitate. He repeats 2 things and those that do it do well -- 1. tape the lecture 2. study in a group.
The subject is very hard, he trys to make it where you can relate to. His test are the hardest but bc he wants you to know & understand the subject inside out. He is a great teacher but the test are the thing that are hard. I would take this class with no other classes because you do need time to study..
He is a challenge but he makes sure you learn the material well. Very Interesting class. You must make the effort. He has great stories to go along with the topics. I recommend him. I, personally, could have done better if I tried a little more. Many people got an A or B.
Tough class, but you can get through it. The first 2 sections are much harder than the rest of the class. He really enjoys what he does try's to make it interesting. Really enjoyed the class and will miss it. Most people got A's and B's.
Dr. Su is very knowlegable in his discipline & cares a great deal about his students actually learning the material. This is evidenced by his assistive stories which are relatable/ relevant to those who desire to pursue medical careers. The course is moderately difficult so be prepared to work hard. Don't pair this course with another science.
very helpful, treats everyone equal, always understands student's problems, offcourse you need to work hard if you want an A,you will not find a professor who comes to you and solves your problem, makes his class very interesting.dont take any other science class if you are taking this.HE IS THE BEST!!!
He is good teacher knows his stuff and very informative. Learned a lot from him. Aced it yaay
He is a very good teacher. He really knows his stuff. He is willing to help if you do not understand. His test are essay and extremely hard. He wants a lot of information on each test question. Be prepared to put a lot of study time into this class.
This guy has real, in depth research under his belt, and is caring about his students. The more questions you ask, inside and outside of class, the more helpful he will be. Show interest, study hard and often, and you will do well. I would be wary of any healthcare professional that hasn't taken su's class and done well:) record lectures, read book
Most of his reviews on here are spot on. His test are fill in the blank/essay. No multiple choice at all. His powerpoints have a few words on them to remind him what to talk about, not for students study help. He teaches non majors as if they were majors. Very difficult class. He has no structure will teacing, always runs class over by 30min BEWARE
His class is extremely difficult. I would advise taking it with someone else. Our class started out full and has 7 people right now. He picks favorites. His lectures are confusing and don't help much. I've learned everything from youtube. His tests are up to his discretion.. he chooses if your answer is right or wrong. DONT TAKE
Dr. Su is the best teacher I have ever had. Don't get me wrong, he is hard and proud of it, but if you go to class, pay attention, RECORD the lectures and study you will succeed. He makes it so interesting that you want to learn it. You will know biology when you are done. He is also the most helpful teacher I have had.
While his tests are probably some of the most difficult tests I've ever taken in my life, I was able to make straight As on all of them just by studying for his tests for 3 - 4 hours using only the presentations and documents he posted. If you can't do well in his class, you don't stand a chance in medical/pharmacy/whatever school.
3 years after taking Dr. Su's class, I still think about the knowledge I gained from him. He simplified the material, demanded critical thinking, made connections between course material & current world news/research/technology/etc. His classroom encourages questions & participation. I looked up videos to help remember concepts.
If you are a trying to go into the medical field take Dr. Su! He genuinely cares about his students. If you don't understand something ask him! I didn't study in a group and did fine. Record his lecture take, notes esp. on his examples and you'll not only ace the class but gain so much knowledge! Btw don't try taking this class and 5 other classes.
The most knowledgeable prof that I've had. He explains everything well & will not go on until everyone has understood the topic. If you are planning on going into the medical field deff TAKE SU!!! The course itself is not easy but he breaks it down making it easier & it opens your eyes to stuff that you will actually learn and use in the future.
Best teacher I have ever had. He boiled the subject down to the essentials. I am now in nursing school, and am constantly thanking him for teaching me things that are helping me now. Dr. Su rocks
Dr. Su is the most personable phd i've had my whole undergrad. I wish I had a prof like him in my upper level science courses. Had him for lecture and lab. He will guide you through the subject matter for hours whether you are bright or dim. Show up, read the text, look at ppts, record, review, and get to know this awesome person. Made an A.
Hi is best science professor I ever had. His tests are not easy but if you understand, it is not bad at all. He will answer your questions really well. He knows his stuff well. Forget to get an A, if you do not understand. He is best!!! TAKING HIS CLASS WAS BEST CHOICE I EVER MADE IN 2014!
Dr. Su is totally inspiring. He teaches the class with a slant towards nursing, and gives you just what you need. I am now in nursing school, and give thanks for his class regularly. One of the best teachers I have ever had.
If you want to have very good knowledge for nursing, take his class. Microorganism are deeply linked to the state of health. Pr Su will explain it to you with passion. He will go beyond to help you to get through the complexities of microbiology and infuse the knowledge of learning in college and to become an positive adult with critical thinking
Don't miss class. Take very good notes or record the lectures. The book is more of a backup for studying. Tests are based on his lectures. Dr. Su makes the subject matter very interesting. He is very engaging, has a good sense of humor and is very kind and caring. This class is not for the faint of heart. No easy A's.
He usually scares students on the first day of class but its not true class is easy just rec his lectures the tests are all over it. He is a very slow grader. You would not even know where you stand until the grade day. Give your best he is very easy grader too.
Dr. Su is an excellent lecturer. I enjoy both his lecture & lab classes. I don't have a science background, so, I study very hard. I read the text book few times to make sure I understand his materials. Please do not skip class and record his lectures. If he offers the extra credit by submitting 12 Microbiology related news/info/articles, take it!
Run don't walk away. Su is a great teacher and is willing to help if asked. Although expectations on tests are confusing. Go to class and record ALL lectures. The book is a supplement but is useful in comparing all information he goes over. Tests are more than just tough. You really have to know what is going on.
omg! if possible take another professor his test are hard, you must really really understand and apply what he is teaching to pass the tests. test are not multiple choice, so you must knw your stuff.
Currently in his class now. For someone whose managed nothing but A's in Chem, A&P, and Bio, Id advise you to stay FAR away for his class. He may be the nicest and funniest guy in the world! BUT HE CANT TEACH. Hes horrible! Lectures go over 2 hours sometimes! Test arent just memorizing. You have to be able to answer "What Ifs" that you dont learn
He is an awesome teacher and you going to learn a lot but his tests are hard, first test is ok, second test is very difficult so study hard , the last 2 tests are fine a lot of information but much easier to understand . Tips :Record the lecture, take good notes, be prepared and don't take to many classes when you are taking microbiology.
If you're here for an easy A don't take this class. Also don't go into a career requiring this class. Dr Su is incredible. Amazing lectures. Tests were the most mentally demanding I've ever taken, but demonstrate whether you actually understand. And if you don't, why would you think you deserve to pass? Life-changing class for me. Dr Su is the best
All tests are about 95% short answer. My advice would be to record his lectures and take notes over them once home. His tests will not only include the concept you have learned, but most of the time he will have multiple examples regarding that concept. The DNA/Immunology exam is the hardest. The others are more memorization heavy. Overall, he rox!
Professor Su changed the way I study. His test are short written but don't run away because of that. In life you don't get ABCDE answers. Don't be fixated on an easy professor. "If you can't explain it simply, then you don't understand it well enough" -Albert Einstein. Record his lectures and you will do great.
Great Tai Chi instructor, very knowledgeable. Fun class with funny instructor, makes it very interesting. Explains each movement & reason for it. One written test over history, 20 questions, attendance grade, & final practical demonstration of skills learned - 13 postures. VERY easy, health oriented class.
Currently in his class now. For someone whose managed nothing but A's in A&P, and Bio, Id advise you to stay FAR away for his class. He may be the nicest and funniest guy in the world! BUT HE CANT TEACH. Hes horrible! Lectures go over 2 hours sometimes! Test arent just memorizing. You have to be able to answer "What Ifs" that you dont learn
Very inspirational. Best professor ever for Microbiology class. He will teach you how to be a real scientist!
He cares you and your future.
Difficult subject but Dr. Su breaks it down. Lectures typically go overtime but he's knowledgeable and makes it interesting. Do the 12 articles extra credit, RECORD ALL THE LECTURES, and don't skip class. Revisit the lectures and read the textbook. Exams are mostly short answers but if you study and put enough effort, you can easily get an A.
I would recommend taking dr. su if you actually really want to learn microbiology. all his exam are lecture heavy, if you don't go to class, you will not pass because he gives examples in class that end up on the exam. sadly he tends to over lecture and will normally go over the time limit. his test make you think, so go to class take notes!
Horrible. I would not recommend anyone to take this class unless you can show up to EVERY single class and sit through 2-3 hour long extremely boring lectures without being distracted. Ppt's are unorganized so are hardly any help when studying. Exams are short answer which make the class even more dreadful. He's a nice guy, but it's not worth it.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! He is nice, but his tests are short answer and worded very "funny" to the point you do not know what he is asking. He will not work with you on reviewing your tests, but will get offended when you ask questions/for explanations. I wish I did not take this class. SAVE YOUR TIME, MONEY, ENERGY, AND GPA!
Dr. Su is a great teacher. I learned the most from his class than any other science class I have ever taken. Attendance and recording lectures is mandatory if you want to do well. Labs were easy because he shows you EXACTLY how to do them and you can work with your table. I was scared of written exams, but that's how I learned the material the best
Do not take this class!!! 50 Essay style questions no multiple choice. If you are use to multiple choice test question do not take him. Mainly he teaches pathology instead of the study of microbiology. He should teach at a higher level university instead of a junior college. Also his teaching does not correspond with his test.
Dr. Su is a fantastic professor. I took his Microbiology course to prep for Pharmacy school. I'm currently in my second year of pharmacy school, and it his course alone has carried me through several pharmacy courses. Participation matters greatly for his class: you get out of it what you put into it. His exams can be tough but are straightforward.
Pay attention to what he says in class, RECORD EVERY LECTURE & listen to it on your way back home. no multiple choice on tests so just write everything you know about the subject & do your best to actually answer the question. any extra credit he gives: DO IT. he was very funny BUT lectures get long & he doesn't care about going 30+ over!
He's a VERY nice professor, clearly intelligent, & knows how to teach. I took his class during a summer session & I'm glad I did. Don't be intimidated by the negative reviews, if you put in a tiny bit of effort you can pass. I wouldn't purchase the textbook as it's not used much, rent it. Record lectures! Exams are free response + multiple choice.
I took him during the spring semester and I passed with a B+ I will say that he is a tough grader because his tests are short answer. He gives you all the answers during lecture. IF you print out his study guide and are able to answer all the questions then you will pass his tests for sure!
Dr. Su is one of the best professors that Ive had. He truly cares that you learn & has pride is what he does. If you want an easy A this class isnt for you. The key to doing well in his class is recording all lectures and listening to them after class. His test questions are short answer and based on his lectures. Dont miss class!!
Lecture based short answer exams. Gives partial credit if you can justify your answer, even if it's "wrong." Very approachable outside class. Explains complex topics so you can understand and teaches you to think-not memorize. I learned a lot and he makes the subject interesting! Made a B+ just by paying attention in lecture & regular attendance.
Professor Su is AMAZING, but his class is the hardest I've ever had. We started w/16 and dropped to 4 students! Record the lectures and take notes. DO the extra credit! He gives great lectures, you can tell he is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate in his field. No homework but exams are ROUGH. Labs are fun. Take if you want a challenge!
I took this on Fall 2020, which was during the pandemic. However, we had in-person labs and online lectures. There was a lot of material and the exam was pretty tough. However, he taught us enough information to do well. The labs involves looking for microbes and doing our determination of unknown. Participate and listen, and you will do great!
