He has his quirks: a tiny bit touchy, and he seems to think he's teaching high school students. But you _will_ learn elementary statistics from the man. I recommend him.

Yoo Hoo! The 's' in "specific" isn't silent...At first I thought he was referring to the ocean. OK teacher, his scrawls on tests left confusion (praise or points off?).
Grades pretty hard, but explains statistics pretty well. Be sure to do the graded homework to keep up and ask specific questions, since he won't spend too much time on general questions unless everyone is having trouble.
explains statistics on powerpoint- need i say more?
i loved this teacher so much! he was one of the greatest teachers i've ever had. He may grade a little hard, but hey, thats college!! If it weren't for him, i wouldn't have tried my best in all my work! this teacher is the bomb!
Not a very hands on teacher. Power point can be confussing when you don't see how problems are getting solved.
He sucks! Don't take him unless you are really good at math...
He is there to teach a very difficult subject and he has found a great approach to do it. If you are there to learn and understand, this is the guy to take.
He is a horrible teacher. He asks if anyone has any questions and know one has any because there teaching themselves at home the next day. he has a major complex with power. He wants people to fail. He shouldn't teach anymore.
umm, he doesn't allow students all asleep in his class. he's messed up person, always makes mistakes on his lecture. Don't understand why he could teach college -___-???

This guy sucks. He encourages questions, but when you ask him, he gets all defensive as if you're trying to prove him wrong. Terrible teacher. Tells u to study one thing, gives you a test on another. Don't take him.
Grades very hard. Does not explain things well. Very dull class. He is not helpful. Would not recommend! Hardest class I have ever taken.

NO. drop while you can. can't teach, unapproachable, unclear, sometimes seems like he doesn't know what he's talking about. just NO.
This guy is horrible! He's not willing to help you and doesn't care if you want to improve.

THis teacher only gave homework once for the whole quarter. Not very approachable and picks favorites. Tests are graded pretty strictly. Easy A if you study for the tests and take notes at ALL CLASSES!
Beware!!! This teacher is terrible. I attended every class for 5 weeks to find out I had been dropped with no explanation. He doesn't explain anything. He knows the math but doesn't know how to teach it. Half of our class dropped. Once again BEWARE!!
I don't know what is wrong with you guys but I think this professor is wonderful. His tests were fair, nothing unexpected. I'm no math whiz but i got a 113/111 on his final.
He's boring. He looks like the FAT NUTTY PROFESSOR. He can't teach Pre-Calculus for crap. He sucks. And did I say he's boring? He acts like he's teaching a bunch of kids from MIT. He expects you to know your stuff already. Don't take him for Pre-Cal.
Somewhat unclear of a teacher. Sometimes it's like he is talking/rambling to himself. But if you know the material pretty well and stay awake in class (he's not really that boring) you will pass the class. He's not a tough teacher and likes to answer questions, for the most part.
I once tried to ask a question about one of the practice problems and he said that he could not help me, he said that if i wanted help i needed to use tutoring services. I work durring the day that is why i attend night school, i do not have time for tutoring!!!
This is the third time I've taken Stats.HE can't teach it; he can't present concepts clearly. He seems like a befuddled old man with an inferiority complex. He singles out and cuts down anyone that asks questions about a concept, or even a problem.Hell, my high school stats teacher was better than him
what can i say? every one else has said it all.
strict and unhelpful. wont answer questions during class or makes u seem stupid. reads off slides & seems to get confused if u ask something about it. unprepared at the beginning of class. hwk & assignments are slightly confusing. do not recommend
Horrible.
Everyone is right, HORRIBLE. Doesnt like questions, so don't ask any. Can't explain clearly. I thought I'd make it through his class despite his bad ratings...WRONG! DO NOT take him. He will not give individual time, or slow down for the class. Does not follow his policies on his green sheet either!
awful. how is he still allowed to teach? i dont understand how someone so incapable of teaching DOES?!
Thaggert is a nice guy but doesn't know how to teach. He is very unclear about what he wants and doesn't help students much. Be prepared to learn A LOT on your own. Do all of the "suggested" homework and you should be ok. But even so his class is extremely difficult.
I am pretty good at math but got a C in the class (going into the final with a B). He is a nice guy but not helpful. He seems like he doesn't want to answer your questions or he tells you to go to the tutor center for help. I forget what is he there for? Be prepared to find your own answers.
this guy is a complete idiot-- very unhelpful!! acts like he does not want to be teaching, seems bored. very unclear and difficult!! i strongly suggest you look for another prof.
He was really boring and I didn't like his teaching style
he is very knowledgable in statistics. he is not very social. he his strict and it is hard to get a good grade in his class. by the end of the quarter, there were only ten students left in the class because everyone dropped. Only the A/B students were left. I learned a lot in his class but it is important for you to do your "homework."
Thaggert has no passion (or seeming interest) in the subject he is teaching, which makes lessons difficult to listen to. He makes a lot of mistakes while going through examples in class, which causes confusion.
this guy is the worst teacher i have ever had. he does not even know the meaning of help, sucha jerk
Very Rude, Gets irritated quickly, expects you to know things right away even though he doesn't clearly explain, you can't make up any tests unless planned even for family deaths.
horrible teacher! doesn't like answering questions; he refers you to tutorial center if you need help and doesn't even bother looking into the question.. EXTREMELY boring, all powerpoints, bad/vague explanations. quiz1 is easy but after that it gets scary. started from high A to a low C.. consists of 3assign, 2 quizzes, 2exams, 1 final. LOT of work
Study the problems he assigns. Additionally, review all the notes. As a side notes, don't expect to get any help in this class. He waves you off when you ask for it. Overall, since I am awesome in mathematics, this class was a breeze. Take his class during the evening..
No office hours, unhelpful, DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! Extremely hard, your-own-your-own attitude
HE LOOKS, ACTS, AND MUMBLES LIKE PROFESSOR CLUMP! Having that said, he is an aweful professor. I hope this guy retires soon. Take this class under NO circumstances!
Worst Math teacher ever!!!! Why is this guy teaching this? Zero passion for the subject, anti-social individual
I am extremely dissapointed. I learned absolutely nothing. Im confident this teacher will get fired.
Mr. Thaggert is not the professor to take for this class. He is very unhelpful and rude in class. He is not able to break the information down into terms so you or I could understand! He is not the professor that you want to take for this class!! I PROMISE!!
He is a terrible teacher. VERY UNHELPFUL! He reads directly out of the book, will ding you for not showing ALL work (including adding and subtracting), you MUST do it his way even if you have the answer right, Does NOT explaing things, will mark problems wrong even if he didn't show you how to do it!
Bad teacher, he will read the 1/2 sentence explanation in book then jump directly to problems. No explanation what at all on how to actually solve the problems. Your better off just reading the book yourself and using the internet. I DO NOT RECOMMEND!
He follows a stick agenda, unwilling to work with me, doesn't give enough time to complete a test. If you have concerns he will ask you to wait till the end of class.I went to every single class, but I wasn’t getting the material. So I withdrew from his class (I got a B’s on the two previous math classes; I am not a slacker)
Instructor is unfamiliar with the material and frequently grows confused when trying to 'wing' relating concepts to one another. Will argue when you point out his solutions are wrong. Exceedingly rude. I don't need hand holding but I pay for someone to have a passing familiarity with the text they're teaching. Too bad I can't get my money back.
Don't take him. If you must, then use the class time to study out of the textbook. He lacked organization, ability to explain class material in a clear/concise/understandable manner. TI 86 only, no TI 89. Hard to remain motivated for his class throughout the qtr.
His class is ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE... I am not lazy or closed minded or anything but this teacher is truly horrible. I dropped his class after a few sessions because it was already apparent the quarter was going to be ridiculous.
If you're not good at understanding math textbooks, then you won't do well. 'Cause he talks and teaches like a formal uninteresting math textbook. Stats has more text than most other math courses too. So if you're ok with learning from textbook with little help, then Mr. Thaggert is ok. Otherwise stay away. First class I ever wanted to fall asleep.
i ended up dropping this dreadful class...you basically have to teach yourself. so if you're not a math wiz or whatever...good luck!
He is not bad at explaining most concepts but he doesnt take questions and doesnt cover half of the material he tests you on and most of it isnt in the text either. I thought I was taking a math class, but actually Thaggert is more concerned with the terms and vocabulary and other really minute, less important aspects. He doesnt care about student
im currently taking his course. he knws wht he's talking abt but he's a mess. he's rly disorganized & jumps back and forth thru chpters. everything he says & teaches is frm the book. i've been trying to pass this class by studying the book myself. dont waste ur time, u might as well take an online course. HW: gives 3 problems per 1-2wks pro/con? =/
Mr. Thaggert gets a really bad wrap; it's actually ridiculous. He's not the greatest teacher - but let me tell you - I've taken alot of math classes at DeAnza, and he's one of the best! This is because DeAnza has a really poor math faculty/dept. However, on the same note, he's amongst the best in the department so believe me, his class is golden.
He transposes words and uses incorrect words in his lectures. His condescending attitude towards students discourages questions. He doesn’t understand complex questions. Main question he failed to answer: in Ch9 students wanted to understand how the Z scores were being compared. He said that we covered Z scores in Ch5, in condescending tones.
Does not explain clearly, mumbles and is not friendly. Seems like he doesn't enjoy his job.
I passed. I was playing on my computer for the two hours, but I passed.
Horrible teacher. Took him 2 hours to review 5 simple homework questions. He seems like a grumpy, old man who doesn't enjoy his job at all. Lectures are useless but homework was easy. Things on the test weren't always what we had gone over in class so some independent studies were needed. Wouldn't recommend this teacher to anyone.
Mr. Thaggert is a great teacher, he goes over every topic thoroughly. He does not help you one on one very often, but still, his lectures are extremely easy to understand. Tests are not too hard, and he doesn't assign homework. He also gives online extra credit quizes. Overall, he is a great teacher. Don't listen to all the people who say he's mean
I dont want to be mean. This man is a great, nice person but he really does NOT belong in teaching. He makes grammar mistakes which mislead any one trying to solve his problems. And he teaches, no, reads from the book!..not helpful at all.gives easy homework but the exams are EXTREMELY difficult!
This professor is underestimated!! He clarifies everything and is easy going. If you are not good at math but enthusiastic for his lecture, you can get a good grade!! I think those who just blame him are criticizing professors every time as they can not do well.
Cool guy.Don't judge a book by its cover.Homework is about 10 questions and you have a week or so to do it.3 exams one final.Tests are easier than the homework. He takes attendence everyday.Kind of slow.Doesnt cover alot of material, but he wont test you on stuff he didnt go over.I might get an A in a MATH class!!That says alot!
Gives three exams, a final, and three graded assignments. Assignments are easy. Exams and final are hard. His exams are somewhat different from the problems he teaches in class. If you have any questions about the material, he will not help you. His teaching was different from the book, so sometimes you will not be able to get help in the book.
make sure you take notes in class. test are so-so but i really hate multiple choices because they ruin my grade. well thats not his fault. he's a great teacher though. i can feel his passion to stat in this class.i hope i can get an A.if not, it's bcoz of my own stupid brain who can't memorize the definition thingy.
He is SO MUCH Better than the previous Math 10 teacher I had. Yes, MC is kinda confusing but other than that, his tests aren't so bad. He's a nice and understanding teacher. Not a lot of workload, I definitely recommend him. EC Opportunities given!
Very Good teacher. I like his class.
I can honestly say that Mr. Thaggert, even though he knows the topic well, is worthless when it comes to student interaction and help. I personally seen him make two students cry due to his unwillingness to provide assistance. He doesn't explain the material very clearly. You better be a self-motivator and not need help to take his course.
This teacher is NOT good. He will explain things ok during the lecture, but if u ask a question or ask for help after class then be prepared, as he WILL NOT help you at all. ALso dont ask question during class, he will not really answer it and make you feel stupid. The exams are hard, differnt from what u go over during the class, he will trick u.

Very good teacher, easy class!
I dont know why people are so harsh with their comments. He's a really nice guy. Easy class, Exam are not tricky. U dont even need a graphing calculator, Not HARD and Robotic like Dhaliwal and other math. Thaggert even gives out Extra Credit!
Avoid this professor. He is easily the most two-dimensional and un-engaging prof. I have ever had. His lectures are pure recital with no conversation or interaction and it is a huge detriment, especially with dry material like statistics. He doesn't respond well to questions, is condescending and shows poor use of the English language - avoid.
WORST!!teacher EVER!he jumps chapters, so read urself. literally will not answer questions. he does NOT know how to engage his students nor does he show passion. math is universal and u can just read the book thank god! if u have questions ask a tutor. I'm upset cause i like math but he makes me want to drop.whats worst is he obviously doesn't care
Super sweet, a little boring during class, but very helpful. I was not excited about taking math but he was extremely thorough with his lessons and didn't collect any homework!
Kind of rude at times, but can be nice, very boring (mono-toned), and hates being bothered with questions. People ask him questions and he practically laughs at them for it. He doesn't explain things well at all. Almost everyone has dropped out because he's so bad. I use to actually like math until I took this class. I wish I had looked here sooner
Worst Teacher Ever! Do Not take him. He is very rude. Does not like to review or go over questions. Very impatient and disorganized.
I took this class in high school so it was easy for me. I corrected him a lot during the course of the class. He makes many mistakes. He always asks if students have any questions while looking down, and no questions are then answered. It's clear that he wants to engage in helping students but his help is kind of useless.
He turns out to be very good. If I came to class everyday, I would have got an A.
The way he words his tests are confusing. He is scattered and not so easy to follow. Some stuff he does in class on test, but wording different In class he wants you to work out problems quickly and I felt rushed and confused without any caring from his end. If math isnt your strong pointm take someone else
He is boring, he is tedious and he is very picky. He asks you to do question in a certain method, meaning if you have the right answer but didnt do the way he wanted, you in trouble. He doesnt explain well, but if you show an interest in math he's better. I wouldnt avoid a class if he is the only option, but i pick other teacher if possible
Don't ever ever ever get him. He doesn't know how to teach. He wants all the answers specifically his way. So if you're right, and it's not the way he wants it to be,it's considered wrong. He's not helpful either. When I asked him for help,he doesn't answer my question and suggests that I get help somewhere else.
One of the best professor I had. He is very helpful and responsive.
Very good instructor I like he help you work you understands grading I can appreciate
I like his way to help and ask questions then answer for you. Very good teacher. Test are little long but fair.
Very clear and patient instructor. One of the best math professor I had. He is very helpful and responsive.
Very good instructor. He takes time to explain all steps when solving problems. I really recommend this instructor
Overall good teacher who covers topic with lots of explanations. One of my best math instructor
Good teacher. Cleary class presentaion. I good quality course examples and content.
This instructor really hepls you to learn math. I think he is the best. My grade good and really understand the problems.
Very good teacher. He makes clear how to solve algebra and very helpfull classroom questions and problems. I would highly recommend this teacher.
Gives a good quality class. I would recommend this teacher to help you get good understanding of basic math. Some exams are real easy.
This teacher knows his math for sure. He does not talk down or demeaning when he is explaining a lowe level of math, or going back to basics. He is pretty stern with his rules. Does not allow notes or books when test taking.
He will lull you to sleep. I cannot stay up the whole class because it is a monotone speech everytime. He reads everything out of the textbook. Every now and then he will ask a question, seconds later he will answer it himself. I was lucky enough that I understand the material from reading by myself. Your best bet is to pass on this teacher.
Honestly the absolute worst professor I've ever had in my life. Rude, boring, and makes so many mistakes in his own work it's ridiculous. Relies way too much on the textbook you question whether he actually knows anything. It's ironic because he asks you to be exact in your calculations. I know everyones human but comon, you're a professor.
Be careful with this teacher, do not underestimate the materials he teaches. He is monotoned and not helpful get all. Whenever questions are asked, he just tells the students to go check in the textbook. Who does that? Though, online homework is a joke; super easy. It will bump up your grade incredibly. Besides, he drops your lowest test score.
A lot of the comments here indicate his speaking tone- and it's true, he is very monotone. That being said, if you can keep yourself entertained he's actually a pretty good teacher. He's extremely clear and will work through multiple problems for any given concept to ensure everyone understands. The grading is easy- anyone can get an A.
