He is tough!! Currently taking class and its not easy. You have to read lecture slides and 7 chapters in book per test!! Majority of students have a D or F! I studied and got a D and im an A, B student! This class could be fun and interesting, but the information you need to know for tests is overloading and very stressful! :(
Henry is awesome! The class is really tough but he gives lots of bonus and as long as you study hard you should be ok
His lectures are almost completely useless. Just go to them for extra credit opportunities. He gives alot of extra credit (enough to jump your grade 2 letter grades). So if you read your book and and get as much as you can down for tests you can make an easy A.
Good, if a bit dry. He comes alive if you ever speak to him one on one.
The tests are hard even when you study. Not a blow off science class.
good teacher who obviously knows his stuff. i dont like his powerpoints. they are the pictures in the book and he explains them. its just hard to keep up with
Turner is not a good Geolgy teacher. only had 1 class bonus and its almost November. he just reads slides and for tests he makes a terrible study guide. out of 163 kids in the class on the first test there were only 4 A'S and 13 B's and in the 50 rang of C's with all the rest D's and F's. oh yeah and he doesn't curve tests! bad class to take.
Doesn't take attendance and his powerpoint slides are useless. They're mainly just pictures and he sits up there and talks. His study guides are pages long and half of what he gives you isn't on the test. Uses book heavily; My first F came from this class, now doing grade forgiveness and taking it with Konig
I love Pro. Turner, but I hate Geology!!!!!!!
very boring and tests are super hard!! never failed anything in my life until this guy!!! take someone else!!
I really enjoyed the class. I don't think it's difficult material but his teaching style is rather dry. Like most sciences you just have to put the work in. Good guy and good class.
He is the best teacher ever I had!! Tests are not easy even you study hard. But he is very helpful and his lecture is very intresting. I became to like Geology by this class.
Good teacher. Good Class.
Turner is a really great guy! He will help you with anything if you stop by during his office hours! His teaching is kind of dry, but for Geology it's really hard to make it fun, and he does a great job. I would highly recommend Turner to anyone! Just do the reading and work for your grade, it is not hard to get an A in there. Just put the work in!
he knows his stuff, and it is alot of detail. the lecture handouts don't always match the lectures, and he goes a little fast, but he is considerate in answering questions. Good looking man, too, and gives alot of extra credit assignments. tests are hard because there is so much data.
He is a really good guy and he tries to make the class interesting. You have to study for his tests a lot if you want to do well, but put in the hours and you will get the grade. He offers extra credit quizzes to help you out which is great.
He is a great teacher! Study his reviews and show up to class (even though it's not mandatory, it helps your overall grade). He is one of the best at the U of A!
read over his powerpoints four or more times before the tests and youll be fine. Also, the in-class quizzes add up if you miss them.
Enjoyed the class, although you do have to study if you want an A (this is college). The times I had questions he was very helpful, genuinely wants the students to learn.
Was an interesting class. Attendence is not required, but you have to study hard to pass the test. Prof Turner is very helpful if you have questions. He offers extra credit several times.
attend class, know the study guide and powerpoints = easy A
This man made me like geology so much I added it as my minor.
All he does is lecture, and it can be boring. However, he is very helpful when asked a question and really loves what he's teaching. His tests are straight forward, but you HAVE to study becuase it is a lot of material. Go to class because he gives in class quizzes which add up if you miss too many.
Attendence isn't mandatory. He offers plenty of extra credit that isn't hard, and has about 1 short quiz a week. He's a very good teacher and if you look over the study guides and slides it's not hard.
I didn't want to take this class at first but turned out to be one of the best ever. Dr. Turner does lecture but as long as you go to class you will be fine. I never opened my book and got a B. He gives extra credit and short quizzes. The test are straight forward and as long as you go to a study session, you will be fine. Loved this class!!
Great guy. Easy if you try.
Here's the deal, this class is NOT easy. Turner is a great guy and seriously loves teaching. That being said, this class is NOT an easy A. Pop quizzes out of no where. A BILLION power points. And the tests are impossible. I'm apart of the honors college and struggled the whole time. Take Astronomy or Physics and Human affairs. ROCKS DON'T ROCK.
Turner is the worst teacher I've ever had. I'm in mechanical engineering and Turner is the hardest teacher I've had, which is sad considering he teaches a general course. Avoid him.
This class is horrible. The tests are difficult and he just reads off the slides in class. Don't take this class.
Always gives pop quizzes, only reads from the slides, and his tests are insanely hard especially for those of you who are not at all interested in Geology. NOT A BLOW OFF CLASS
Super nice guy, Really excited about rocks! It's not an easy "A" class, but if you pay attention, study his powerpoints, and go to class you will do well. It was a great class for me! He's also kind of cute in a Star Wars, Dungeons and Dragons kind of way.
Dr. Turner is so quirky! He's such a nerd it's adorable. You have to go to class, but don't have to take notes. He goes over all the power points in class and posts them on Blackboard. There is 2 question quiz over every chapter so you need to read! He does review sessions for exams and is available to help. Easy A if you put in some effort.
This isn't an easy A class. But often times at a university, you wont find one. He's a good guy and will help you whenever you ask. The absolute stereotypical Geologist! Didn't really enjoy the class mainly because he just talks about each PPT. Does make you participate on some online stuff. Have a 79 right now, final tomorrow. We'll see for that 1
This is not a blow-off class. He gives review sessions and reviews for his tests, however they are very broad, like 5-6 pages of information that you have to actually understand and can't just memorize. It's very comprehensive for each test. There's online home almost every week which is fairly easy, and occasional opportunities for extra credit.
Turner is not a very good professor. He reads straight off his slides, you practically have to teach yourself the material. Tests are difficult as well.
NOT A BLOW OFF CLASS, that being said if you actually try an A is easily doable. Very funny and sweet professor, I enjoyed being in his class even though we had many set backs over the semester causing us to fall far behind. He is very fair and helpful, and has some really cool stories and experiences to share if you take this class.
I liked professor Turner a lot. Very accommodating. Pretty difficult class. Definitely had to put work in for studying.
This class wasn't the easiest. Prof. Turner enjoys the subject he's teaching, however he tends to go off on tangents sometimes when he get's too excited. I liked the class and I learned a lot- just make sure to begin studying weeks and weeks in advance of any exams in this class. And never miss online assignments.
He tends to ramble in lecture, but his tests are verbatim from the power points. Doesn't take attendance or give quizzes in class or anything, so no real reason to go. Did get 1 extra credit day though. Study the power points and youll do great, made A's on the test and only studied a few days before. Final is optional
He's got a pony-tail. SUPER passionate about geology, but kinda awkward. I'd recommend taking it.
He is VERY passionate about geology so he goes on and on about things and never finished a powerpoint on time. He expects you to know everything he knows (or at least in honors he did).
Cool guy, pretty laid back. Study guides don't help much, so just make sure you know the powerpoints. Main grade is based off of the few tests he gives, and the homework. MAKE SURE TO DO THE MASTERING GEOLOGY HOMEWORK.
His online class is pretty straight forward... Watch the videos on your own time and take notes. There is online homework every week which helps towards the tests. The tests are VERY hard and cover multiple chapters at a time. As long as you put in the time to study a few days in advance you should be fine but definitely not a blowoff class.
All he does is read off power points making the class hard to sit though. All the power points are on black board so i never went to class. His study guides are not 100% great but it gives you a sense of direction on what to read. if you put in effort and try you'll make an A if your like me and don't care about Geology you'll make a C/B
It's very tempting to skip class since he only does quizzes at the beginning of the chapter, but going definitely helps on the test. Overall, as long as you pay attention and do the homework, it should be relatively easy to pass and with a little work make a B. Making an A will take some study time thats for sure. Tests are fair. Extra credit too.
wow! Avoid this teacher at all cost! His online class was possibly the hardest class at the UofA.. No guidance what so ever. Don't take him
Worst mistake you could make at the University of Arkansas would be to take this class. The tests are nearly impossible and dont even try to ask him to help your grade because he wont do it. All the people I know that took Geology with another teacher had high As and did not struggle whatsoever. Worst teacher I have ever had.
Great professor, super nice too, but most people hate geology. I hated it going in but he made me like it. I still won't major in it but it at least opened my eyes to how cool it is. Go to class and read the textbook. Did I say read the textbook. Got to study it all or might not do so well.
The H. Turner is solid! The class is lecture heavy, and the tests are hard. You must read the textbook and pay attention in class in order to do well on the tests and in class. There are two question quizzes for each chapter reading assigned. Also, we went on a field trip , and he bought everyone ice cream!
Professor Turner is one of the toughest professors I have ever had. I was failing the class and emailed him to set up an appointment but he never responded. His tests are super hard and are on the smallest details so you have to literally memorize everything.
Don't take this class. This class is extremely difficult (a lot of content and hard tests, the professor is dull which makes it hard to pay attention in class and theres a lot of homework. This guy isn't sympathetic even though most people are taking the class as an elective. Do not take!
This class is probably the most challenging that I've taken so far. His lectures are mundane so it's hard to pay attention but they're very important and pretty informative. He's a very interesting and knowledgable person though. If you're passionate about geology and can get over the dryness of his lectures you will enjoy him and the class
His lectures feel like they drag on or it is just the subject is boring. He is enthusiastic about Geology and it shows. I stopped going to the lectures because I could not stay awake, he posts all the material online and I got away from the course with a B having gone to two lectures. Just read the material and go through the study guides he posts
This class is insanely hard. Do not be fooled by thinking geology will be easy especially not with this professor. His lectures unhelpful and very boring not to mention his test are extremely difficult. He does give study guides but his test do not follow along with the study guides he provides. Avoid this course and this teacher.
If you dont mind a little bit of last minute cramming, this class is for you. In terms of a science credit, this isnt really a blowoff, but its definitely a better choice over the others. You dont even need to go to class to do well on the tests, just study the reviews he gives out before tests and you will do fine(as long as you know how to study)
I loved this class. This is a professor you must get to know and put effort into creating a relationship with him, it will help a lot. He is very passionate about what he teaches. This is NOT a blow off class, but as long as you put in the work you will do well. You have to study for tests no getting around it. Overall totally recommend this class
I was expecting this class to be a lot worse than it actually was. I'm not saying that it's easy by any means, but if you work hard you can come out with a good grade. BUY THE TEXTBOOK AND READ IT. You'll have reading quizzes over every chapter and it will help you perform better on the test. He gives you study guides for each test, so that's nice.
Dr. Turner was a great professor. Im biased as a geoscience major, but I found him to be a very laid back guy. Tests were a little tough, so be familiar with his slides and lecture notes. Homework and quizzes were online, and can bite into your grade if you ignore it. He offers plenty of extra credit. Would take again.
Hes not a good professor. I'm generally smart and I study hard and I'm barely passing this class. I go to all his lectures, take notes, and do the study guide and I never do good on the tests. In my opinion a professor who has to curve his tests by 15% is a terrible one. Definitely don't recommend.
Took this class online and it was pretty easy to do the weekly assignments but the tests are what kills your grades. He gives out a study guides but they're 14 pages long!!!! Might as well re-read the textbook. The kicker is, none of the stuff on the study guide is on the TEST!!!!! Don't take him, he doesn't treat this as a level 1000 course.
Lots of homework but its super easy and all online. The tests are so hard, the "study guides" suck and are not helpful. I am barely passing and he is so rude. It doesn't matter if you go to class or not you still won't learn.
He cares too much about Geology and does not make it as easy as it should be. His study guides are pretty much useless and are not what he puts on the test. Exams are worth 75% of your grade so the fact that his exams are hard and that his study guides are pretty much useless, make it hard to do well in this class unless you LOVE Geology.
Turner gives the most boring lectures I have ever listened to. He acts as if students aren't sitting in front of him and will let students (in a tiny class) have their hand raised for 5 whole minutes before he acknowledges their question. Tests are too hard and worth 25% of your grade; The study guides he posts for them are 10 pages long.
Work hard for all to pass
Went to introduce myself in office hours and stuck my hand out for a handshake and he just looked at me. Lectures are long and boring, takes forever to respond to emails. I would spend a whole week memorizing all info on his 10-14 page study guides and still only get a 75 on the exam AFTER the curve. Way too hard for an 'intro' course. Not good.
Spends far too much time on specifics of topics rather than the main key points which makes it confusing on what is necessary to know. Very boring, I have fallen asleep several times and it's only the second month. The study guides seem to be beneficial, but they definitely need supplementary review via powerpoints. Extra credit is nice.
He is very intelligent when it comes to geology, however, he isn't a good teacher. He reads off his powerpoint the entire class, spends way too much time on one specific topic, and doesn't engage with the class at all. The plus side is that he gives a good amount of extra credit, and his test reviews and sample questions are very helpful (but long)
Professor Turner was so helpful and kind. He was very understanding and lenient. His feed back was always so positive. Would respond to emails in a timely manner as well.
He'd usually read from the slides and insert his own bits of information during the lecture. He also posts his slides online so there's no need to take notes, just sit back and listen. He'd also give out bonus points for every lecture you came to.
I got an A but this class was tough. Thankful that this class is over.
Turner isn't a good teacher but he makes this class super easy. You do not have to study for his exams because they are open book. Class is very boring but thankfully attendance is not required.
He does not teach this class as a 1000 level course. The tests are very difficult. Many of the questions are worded to be confusing and trip you up. He does give a "study guide" for the exams, but they are extremely long and you'd be better off reading the whole book over again. Exams are 50% of your grade, so you need to study a ton for an A.
Absolute worst class I have ever taken. You can study for as long as you would like and he will still have a wide-range test that is impossible to score well on. Very hard grader on short answer. Expects his students to basically be geology professors by the extent he wants you to know/understand. Do not take. Shouldnt be an entry level course.
This class is made up of tests and online assignments. Lectures are boring and will put you to sleep. Tests are hard even if you study a week in advance, but he give extra credit opportunities. Attendance isnt required!
WAY TOO HARD FOR AN INTO TO GEOLOGY CLASS. Henry if you're reading this I know you're a great guy but we just need the credit. we're not all geology majors.
Unbelievably easy class. Assignments are worth 50% and tests are worth 50%, but assignments take 20 mins to do. Also a C starts at 65%
He is sweet and understanding. Content is quite hard for non-majors, however I am envi sci and enjoyed the topics. Lectures are kinda boring, but he tries his best. This year he was overworked and the semester was not in his favor (weather and sickness issues) but he tried his best to be understanding and sympathetic to our stress. I enjoyed him.
Dr. Turner was extremely understanding when I had to miss both lab and lecture due to a family emergency. He was given the short end of the stick and had to teach our lab as well, and due to weather issues we were behind the original schedule the entire semester. I did like that he gave us study guides and we could access the PowerPoints whenever.
Super easy class, best geology teacher you could get. Super in-depth in the lectures and the exams are open everything. I just looked over his lecture slides before the exams and got high A's on all of them.
you can tell he's really passionate about geology which is great! but, his lectures are long and uninteresting if you're not into geology. i showed up for the first couple weeks of class then stopped attending. he expects you to read the textbook but i'm pretty sure no one does. i do recommend his class if you're looking for an easy science.
Henry was a good professor. I easily passed with an A without going to lectures (I took notes outside of class). He posts lecture slides. Exams are relatively easy if you take notes. Our class had online exams open book open note but I know it was not planned to be like that.
I took this class as an easy science and there was actually a lot of work involved. Tests and homework were easy, but there was a TON of homework. Usually, not a problem, except I had to go onto MyLab Pearson to find out the due dates. This caused me to miss a few assignments. If you can stay on top of homework, this class will be a breeze.
Dr. Turner is a very nice man but his lectures were very boring. During the first month, attendance was normal, then as the year went on, many people stopped showing up. His tests are online, the homework he gives is not hard, and the lecture isn't necessary unless you really like Geology. This was a very easy class.
He does not take attendance for lectures. If you keep up with the homework then you will do perfectly fine. There are 3 exams before the final and final is optional (if you are happy with your previous exam grades). Homeworks do not take much time to do but that is your grade mostly comes from so you have to keep up with them.
If you need a science prerequisite this is the class to take. Attendance is never taken. Assignments are short and simple. Easy class.
He doesn't take attendance, but there was one class where he gave us extra credit because there were only 4 of us. There's no need to show up because he posts the lecture notes on Blackboard and the tests are open note, open book. Overall pretty easy class if you need a science
Online homework every week, lectures posted on blackboard so no reason to really go to class. Everything is open note, open book, even tests, so it's pretty hard to not get a good grade in this class.
I never went to class and made an high A in the class. There was homework 2 times a week and with 3 test and a final that was optional. I think he understood that most of the people that are in his class are forced to be there because we needed an science credit, so he made it so if you are actually interest in geology come to his lectures.
Henry Turner is the best Geology professor at the U of A. This guy knows his rocks. His lectures aren't boring but he doesn't take attendance so not a lot of people show up :(. Attending is actually so fun because he tells you stories about current events, his life, and experiences so definitely worth showing up every once in a while!
his actual, firsthand experience with the subject material was pretty cool and made geology not boring. exams are open-note
I love him so much. Attendance is not required and every assignment you can find on quizlet. There's only 3 test and they are online and open note. But aside from that, he has good lectures and is so nice.
Henry is amazing! Take this class for an easy science credit!!! Attendance is not mandatory, you have one assignment due each week which are super easy, and all the tests are online at home open note. Take Henry!
Dr. Turner knows his rocks. He doesn't take attendance, but it's worth showing up every few days to stay on track. He shares interesting personal stories and clearly has a deep knowledge of the subject. All exams are on Blackboard. Lectures can get a little boring but overall, he's a really cool guy
attendance isn't mandatory, very easy elective, open note test, textbook is used for homework which can be time consuming but easy, made geology interesting to learn about
Prof Turner knows his stuff, but the lectures can be dry if you're not really into geology. Luckily, the homeworks and tests are pretty easy, and resources like the textbook and unstuck study make studying a breeze. Overall, a solid class if you need a science credit.
Lectures are long and boring but attendance is not mandatory, although he does take attendance. grades come from homework (online and easy) and 4 tests with an optional final. Tests are take home, open note, open book. Very nice guy and cares a lot about geology.
This class is the easiest blow-off science! I haven't been since the first week and got a 95%. There's quizlets for every homework assignment and exam. He made the final optional to replace a low exam score. He really does love what he teaches. I wouldn't buy the textbook if I were to take it again.
Prof Turner cares about what he teaches, but lectures can be a bit boring if ur taking this course for just the science credit. Attendance isnt mandatory and hw is super easy, so are the exams which are open book open note and online. Great easy class to take & the professor is cool. If you are a science major you will also benefit from his class!
Cool dude, boring material. Reads off slides. Lectures aren't required, exams and homework is open internet (Chat GPT'd the entire class). Let me take an exam one day late. Really understanding dude that knows he has to teach a boring Gen Ed and actually seems to enjoy geology. Would take him if you have to take this class.
I highly recommend Professor Turner if you can take him. He loves his job, he loves geology and he genuinely cares about his students. I reached out several times throughout the semester and he answered back every time. I enjoyed his lectures very much as well as the material . I would take his class again in a heartbeat. I highly recommend him.
No attendance, tests at home not lockdown. AI allowed on pretty much everything. I showed up once and got an A.
Geology was a very easy class & lab, even honors. There's at least one homework assignment a week which is super easy, and then there's a paper too, that's really the only thing you need to put effort into. His tests are take at home and open note & not in lockdown so its an easy A. Definitely recommend for an easy science and lab.
he was good but not my favorite. would take him again if needed though!
