She is a great professor. Only teaches the necessities . Her tests are never too hard especially if you are interested in the material. I would certainly suggest this course for a Bio elective. I enjoyed it alot and had no problems whatsoever.
What a great class and a greater professor. You will have to work for this class, but it is well worth it. She is funny, nice and very personable not like some of the others in the bio deptartment. She actually cares that you learn the stuff.
she is a balanced teacher,,, u learn a lot in her class. she is clear and to the point. as a person, she is caring and very deligent. action speak louder than words is what i would say for her good work.. keep up the good work HZ
SWeet... cares about her students.. always willing to elaborate... cute in her own way.. you will learn to love her
I would give Dr. Zhou a 6 if i could! =)..It is definitely worth it to take her class, she is a a great professor, and a nice person in general.
This class is easy, but only if you are somewhat interested in Bio. She is a little hard to understand, but she writes everything on the overhead so you dont really need to listen to her. If you takes notes, you shouldnt get lower than a B on the tests. She is also one of the nicest professors that you will meet on campus.
She is a great professor...Sometimes it is hard to understand what she is saying cuz of her accent but lectures using powerpoint so not a problem...If you take the notes and put a good effort into studying you will get a B or higher...Very nice lady and overall job well done... She's got a cute little comical side to her also...
She is cool as hell... I got a b+ which is really suprising...I just studied the night before the test and I got b's i would've got an A if i took lab quizzes seriously.. just study and you'll do fine... But i suggest you watch out for topics about the nervous and cardiac system.. you really have to study for those 2 topics
Well seing as how the other kids in my class posted their opinions... I guess I should put my two cents in too. Don't be fooled people... She's nice yes, gives lots of extra credit... But you see, THERE ARE NO CURVES! The tests are... tricky sometimes, and well, you just have to REALLY STUDY. In a sense, she's harder than Maloy.
Soo nice and shes funny. She has the BEST teaching method I have ever seen, everything is online and the notes are in a powerpoint she fills out with you in class. Tests are tricky though and she doesnt curve or help you out with that. Just study and it is not that bad. Shes definitely worth it, great professor.
cute and funny. has an accent but it's not that hard to understand her. lectures are on powerpoint presentations so it's not bad. all the notes you need for the exams are on the powerpoints and on the review powerpoint. the only "bad" thing is she doesn't curve but she gives extra credit. basically, study the powerpoints and you'll be fine.
Very pleasant character...This particular class def held my interest, her powerpoints made studying easy and before every exams she tells you what to concentrate on. She's very approachable and makes bio a breeze :-)
she's pretty kewl, she lets us use our laptops.
Lecture class, barely takes attendance (only b4 a test) She's funny and really nice. All the notes are online, there's a review ppt she posts which is everything you need to know for the test. Since I took AP bio in HS this class was reallllly easy, but some people find it hard. Maybe they don't study enough. TAKE HER!!
very straightforward lecture, projected slides on Powerpoint, and she gives you them on Blackboard. still, take the notes down and it will be easy to understand. laptops are allowed always. funny during lecture - she will do things like exclaim "wow!" about organisms, or compare them to Spongebob Squarepants.
good teacher puts notes up and u just write them down. if u study a couple of days before the test u should get an a in her class
there is a facebook group called I love Heping Zhou.... enough said
Excellent..i miss her...and you will to after you get rawn...arghhh enough said..
If you study Prof. Zhou's notes and slideshows, you'll ace the test!!
THE BEST EVER!!!! HER SLIDES ARE CRYSTAL CLEAR AND SHE CAN BE A BIT FUNNY...HER ACCENT DOESN'T TAKE AWAY FROM HER TEACHING CAUSE SHE USES SLIDES ACTUALLY I LOVE HER ACCENT! TAKE HER, TRUST ME YOU'LL LOVE HER...EASY A IF YOU STUDY!! (EVEN THE NIGHT BEFORE, I GOT AN A AND I STUDIED 3 HOURS BEFORE AND GOT ONLY 8 POINTS OFF OUT OF 150...142!)
She's a Great Professor. Everything you need to know will be on the slides. She repeats everything over n over so its hard Not memorize it.There are 4 tests which arent that hard. I wasted $180 on the book with the clicker for nothing, i opened the book once. It scared me so i closed it. I still got an A so TAKE THIS CLASS!!n take notes.
The best Prof. I have ever seen!!!
Easy teacher; puts all her notes on blackboard and all you have to do is go to class and copy them. Textbook isnt even necessary. Just read the blackboard notes and you will be fine for the test. Hard to understand at times but she is a great professor
She is awesome, as long as you study the powerpoints and do the review she gives, you'll do great, she is an awesome teacher, and really funny.
As long as you study in the class you will do fine. Her notes are more helpful than the text book.
She is not what she seems. she is not that nice, especially when you see her during office hours. yea the class is easy, but if you ever ask her for any help or question anything that is going on with your grade, or tell her that you felt cheated in class, she will not listen because she is not understanding at all.
all i gotta say is that this class does not prepare you at all for rawn's class. its easy because the class is a joke. you can do no work at all and get a B. its nice to get that, but still it will not help you in the long run if you are a Science major.
This Professor is great! She is very fair and hepful. I learned a lot from this class!
Her tests aren't too bad, just show up to class and fill in the outline. All the test questions are based on the outline. Great professor, very knowledgeable.
Do not believe the comments that praise her for being so nice one bit! She does not like to be challenged/questioned in any way regarding the tests, dates, or your grades. Go to her with anything and it's as if she's annoyed by your asking her to do her job. Her voice is also extremely irritating. The class is easy, but she will drive you crazy.
She's very nice and explains her slides really well. Study the notes and slides and you'll be fine. She doesn't use the textbook that often.
Great prof and a great person. She really tries to help you so it hurts her to see her students not do well. Just study and dont take the material too lightly. It is easy stuff but there is alot of it so you have to study.
SHE IS AWESOME!!!! BEST BIO PROFESSOR EVER..YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE HER..WORD OF ADVICE: DONT MISS CLASS AND STUDY YOUR NOTES..AND YOU WILL BE FINE!
I'm not a fan of Biology, but Dr. Zhou is great! She's very knowledgeable and provides you with all the necessary resources in the notes and powerpoints. Don't buy the book though; you'll never need it.
She's so nice and funny! Her material is clear, all done on the overhead with outlines that you fill out as she goes along. Study those, and you'll be fine. I sat on facebook the whole time and just wrote what she wrote without listening and got a B+. She gives extra credit too!
She was one of the best professors i had all semester... she's funny and caring and always is willing to help and explain anything that you have problems with... i would take her again definitely if she teaches other courses... <3
she is a nice math teacher, and speaks in a firm, clear tone. She is very good at clarifying things.
Wonderful professor. She sometimes is hard to understand but write everything she says down on a power point for you. She gives extra credit if you need it. Her test are consistent with her notes so you know exactly what you need to study for.
Love her!!!! Best teacher you will have a Seton Hall if you are a biology major. She is easy and fun! Honestly, if you don't slack off you can easily get an A. You just have to study and she gives extra credit on tests!!!
Great teacher!!! Her positive energy makes going to class fun! Her accent is a little hard to understand, but she is a great teacher nonetheless. You have to pay attention and study hard to get an A!
study your notes and know them word for word and you will pass this class with flying colors. great teacher
If you put in the work you'll get an A. Make sure you go to lectures and take good notes. The tests are straight from the notes. She's funny and clear. Buy the textbook if you want extra help.
Test are directly from the notes. She posts the notes online and you just fill them in. Easy class.
Dr. Zhou is a great professor. Her exams are straight from her lectures. She makes all the lectures interesting. Class isn't difficult as long as you work and study.
Professor Zhou gives out an outline for every chapter. Her lectures consist of her going through presentations and filling out the outline with notes for the tests. You have to study to get an A, but if you know everything in the outline and go to class, you can get an A. She's great. Cute jokes.
Zhou is an overall good professor. Granted, it's biology so you need to be ready to study a lot, but Zhou is helpful! She takes the first 10-15 minutes every class to review previous material, and is very clear-cut on what to expect for tests. Plus, she's just so darn cute and funny!!
great professor, she's very funny. hard class though, study her notes and know them like the back of your hand and you'll be fine. I would take her again.
Know the handout notes she puts online, example organisms, and be careful on the true false. Some of the questions are wordy and it tests both your logic and knowledge, but don't worry. Class is an easy A if you put the work in. I highly recommend her.
Really gave a good intro into the world of biology. Keeps her lectures interesting with her upbeat tone and writes everything down on her slides. But you have to attend and study a lot to do well--no cramming will work. Has a bit of an accent but if you sit up front it isn't an issue. Some of her jokes are stupid but charming.
She has an accent, but is still understandable, and while the tests may be a little hard, they are easy if you read the chapters in the book, and attend lectures. She writes everything on the PowerPoint presentations - just write down everything she does. She is also super nice, and will make class enjoyable.
best professor i ever had. However, you have to memorize her notes word by word, take good notes, and attend every lecture. she takes attendance every lecture so it would be in your best interest to attend. She does not try to trick you on exams, as long as you study your notes and memorize every thing, you will get an A. You do NOT need a textbook
You have to go to class and take notes on the outlines she provides you. The exam is based off of the notes. This is an easy A, if you go to class, take notes, and study. Attendance is mandatory and also extra credit. It is test heavy (4-25% each). If you skip a class, you will miss a lot of info.
Dr. Zhou picks great TA's and makes herself available, even as a lab instructor. Super understanding when I got COVID during the semester. Study for the lab quizzes and final, but as long as you do every lab assignment, you'll be fine in the class. Her lab manual is expensive but needed for the class and good review for gen bio lectures.
I took Dr. Zhou a year ago and she was great! She is so understanding and she truly cares for her students. The quizzes required memorization cuz they were short-answer. The final exam was kinda long and hard but you just have to study everything in the manual (must buy !) Otherwise, it was great having her.
This class is very easy to prepare for, take your notes that she gives off her powerpoints in class and if you study from those in detail youll definitely pass. Making quiz lets to memorize terms helped me and shes always willing to answer questions.
Never gets off-topic, always discusses things in detail without getting confusing. Fantastic teacher
The spacing of exams and the amount of material on exams were tough at times. You must memorize straight from the lecture slides, per exam it is roughly 150+ slides. This can be tough if you are not good at memorizing. Overall exams were not terrible but definitely need to study for a couple of days in advance. Zhou is the nicest prof though.
Great professor. Tests are based only off what is in the powerpoints. Take great notes during lecture, and you'll do fine. 4 big tests during the year and Achieve assignments that are a good way of using the knowledge learned for homework. She truly keeps her lectures energetic, cracks jokes, and is very open to answering questions during class.
My absolute favorite professor. Her slides are very clear and while it doesn't hurt to also study the related chapters, really going over lecture notes is all you need. She's very nice and jokes a lot during class; show up and make sure to study and you'll do just fine!
Im surprised with how many good reviews this Professor has honestly. If you are not a good test taker, steer very clear from her. Your grade is 96% exams and 4% homework. She is not understanding AT ALL. I reached out to her about personal issues and she basically said sorry to hear but I dont care. I found the tests difficult, not like slides.
Dr. Zhou is nice and funny, but she is an extremely difficult professor. There are 4 exams, each counting 24% of your grade. Her exams are hard and you definitely need days of studying beforehand. Homework is 4% of your grade, and is honestly NOT helpful at all. It's just a filler grade and it is much better to study from her lecture slides.
You only have 4 exams that determine your entire grade. In her words, its all about memorization so if you are not good at memorizing every lecture she gives you dont stand a chance. You have no time to write notes as she speeds through lectures. There is no opportunity to improve your grade. There is no curving on any test. Overall she is bad!
It is important to understand that BIOL 1211 is a "weed-out" course to prevent students who may not make it as a Bio Major from accumulating six figures in debt. Keep that in mind when assessing the difficulty of a four-exam as 96% of your grade class w/no curve. All BIOL 1211 sections are graded this way. That said, Dr. Zhou is the prof to take.
Dr. Zhou is great! Know everything on her slides exactly (word for word) and the tests shouldn't be too bad! I recommend to start studying at least a week in advanced. She does like to put some trick questions on the tests and the true/false sections can be confusing. She is very funny during lectures and very nice!
She is very lecture heavy, and even then there will be trick questions on the tests which are about 50 questions. There is no chance to improve your grade, you really need to study a week or more beforehand. Not so bad, but if you're not a good test taker then you won't be able to reach to your best ability. Overall, made me disappointed.
Dr. Zhou's class is overall fair if you pay attention and put time into studying. She makes sure you get the information on each slide and is very understanding when you talk to her. We had 4 tests that are worth 96% of your grade and homework worth 4%. Her tests were very easy as long as you know your information, if not that's on you.
go to class and take the notes. study a lot. shes a smart lady but her tests arent out to get you. i love this woman
shes is a great professor
Its hard to rate a teacher like Zhou, especially in a bio class. the class is extremely hard, with just 4 very difficult exams that make up 96% of your grade. Zhou is very kind and she likes to joke around in class. She is sometimes hard to understand and her handwriting is awful. she is probably the best option for gen bio 1.
ehhh all the bio teachers arent good. She's your best bet !!
As a person is very sweet. Makes jokes here and there which makes the class laugh but that's really it. Her exams are super lecture-based. Have to write every single word she writes on the board in a short amount of time. Visited her after we got the exam grade back but didn't really provide a good advice on how to study for the next exam.
Exams are tricky if you are not confident in the material. Don't try to cheat your way through other resources, her notes/lectures are all you need. Be prepared to take lots of notes in a short amount of time. Only 4 exams, no reviews, no makeups and no opportunity for a better grade if you flunk. Go to all her lectures and write down everything.
Her exams are so hard. The stuff she teaches is twisted and turned when it comes to the questions on the exam. It is so hard even if you study her slides and your notes for hours , she will make sure those exam questions are difficult.
Great professor for BIO 1211. She jokes around, and even though she has a heavy accent, she is still very easy to understand. Her exams are based on her slides so study the religiously because they are worth 94% of your grade. As long as you spend a good amount of time studying her slides you'll be fine.
Her exams are straight from her slides. Study the slides and you will get an A
Professor Zhou is great. Her slides show exactly what is on the test while other bio professors fill their slides with so much extra stuff. Any bio class is lecture and test grade heavy but as long as you go to her class and study well she is the best option for sure. If you don't get the slides or study well you will fail.
Prof Zhou, is straightforward, we had 4 tests, homework assignments, and no final. If you attend class and study hard for the tests you will do well.
exams are extremely difficult and it is so hard to understand her lectures. prepare to teach yourself every chapter. gives so much homework for it only to be 4% of your grade. 4 exams each 24% of your grade. i was struggling and came to her for help and she could care less to help me during office hours. would rush to get you out of there.
Class is entirely lecture based, she explains things pretty well. Everybody says this, but you just have to memorize the slides and you'll do fine on the tests. Grade is 4 tests each worth 24% and homework worth 4%. Not the worst choice for gen bio, just be prepared to study a lot. She's pretty cool, really knowledgeable and tries to make it fun.
Prof Zhou was awful. She was unorganized when it came to her exams. The class is broken up in three parts (animal, plants ans the human body) and she jumped around a lot chapter wise. She didn't care about her students and wouldn't explain anything when asked in class. Would often rush thru the slides days before the exam. Hard to understand her.
Her slides are very blank and she fills them as she goes with a lot of content. She jumps around content from the textbook so showing up to class and copying the slides word for word is a must. She's really sweet and funny though.
There are 4 tests with a few extra credit questions. She stops taking attendance basically after the 3rd class but go to the lectures to take notes. Copy her notes then memorize it and you'll do fine
Be prepared to take notes. I never used the textbook to study, only the slides. The tests I found were straightforward. Just make sure you remember everything from the slides-it might seem like a lot but it gets easier! try and study a little everyday so it won't pile up and you'll be fine! :)
Study hard for tests, make sure to do homework with the lectures. Really nice professor. Does have an accent that is hard to understand for a few words. Hates talking in class, understandably
pay attention during the lectures and write down what she says in addition to what's in the slides. I just studied off the slides and the examples and nothing else. study in advance, the tests had a lot of content but it's definitely doable and she explains the concepts well. Achieve is the homework, it is easy but time consuming
Dr. Zhou was a highly challenging professor. Unlike other instructors who implemented grading curves on exams, she consistently refused to do so. This decision, combined with a perceived lack of concern for her students' well-being, made her class particularly difficult and frustrating for many. I would not recommend her as a professor.
Zhou is a good professor overall. She's very sweet and knows what she's talking about. BUT, she would rush explanation at times, leaving us confused and sometimes her notes were unorganized. Her tests were difficult. As a high school valedictorian speaking, this was my lowest grade that semester. STUDY WELL AND GO THROUGH THINGS OVER N OVER.
Exams are only based off her slides, I never used the textbook to study. While attendance is not mandatory, in order to do well on the exams it is necessary as she adds commentary that will appear on the exam. Study ahead of time as you will need to know everything that is on the slides and that she says during the lecture.
Great professor. A lot of material but she explains everything concisely and easily understandable. Offers extra credit as well. The course itself is very test heavy but that's the same for every bio. Take really good notes and you'll do well.
If you don't attend her lectures, forget it! She's a good professor and clearly know whats she's teaching but you must attend all the lectures because everything she says, is important and could be on the exam. There are only 4 exams the whole semester, so you cannot slack or procrastinate studying for the class.
