The most awful teacher @ SFSU.Hasn't taught in 20yrs,doesn't prepare for lectures(just wings it through the powerpoint slides),refused to answer questions because he didnt know the answer, refused to give a grading scale!!!we got our test back with a number and had no clue if it was a B,C or an F!!!He told us that we were winers.REPORT HIM TO CHAIR!
This teacher is a nice guy, but he isn't a good teacher. His lectures are BEYOND BORING. His grading is based on 2 tests w/no notes or openbook. You have to memorize all the formulas. His tests are too long, never enough time to finish. Tests are based on multiple choice & problems & his multiple choice requires a lot of calculations.
Excellent teacher with great experience in the field. Wants you to be able to use your skills in the real world. One of the best finance profs @ State.
He is a GREAT teacher; he definitely knows his stuff. The class is HARD. It's a lot of work, but you will do fine if you study. He's not one of those to read off the powerpoint slide, so yes, he'll give you real life examples. Yes, his tests are close-book, but they are fair. And YES, you will **** and complain if you don't do your part and study
In short Herb seem to want to teach, but lack the teaching skill to perform that duty. Biggest problem is, he isn't sure what he wants to test, therefore the students need to learn everything in the text book. I.E. During the mid-term mostthought we need to know the formulas, but the acutual exam was more based on history lesson, and peoples name
It is true, he is very hard and you have to know EVERYTHING in order to do well in his class. He is a nice guy and if you go to his office hours he will help you with anything you are having trouble with. He is also understanding and he does read these reviews. He is trying to add more tests for the semesters to come. He should allow notes!! =)
great guy, but dont take him if you dont want a challenge.
Meiberger is a TERRIBLE instructor. He babbles through the whole class meeting. You don't know what you should be learning. He only gave two exams and only after the first exam and many complaints did he give hw problems. Dont take him if you want to learn investments and get a decent grade in the class. He is worse than Chen. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
class consisted of 1 midterm & 1 final; which he says will change next class and have more tests. knows his material; provide real life examples from his previous jobs which i thought were very interestin; he tries to relate to us on our level. what really sucked was that since it was a thursdays class, section 1 had to take it on a tuesday.
He is a good teacher, but very difficult. He is funny and entertaining and always likes to lighten the mood with jokes. He has a lot of first hand experience and he refers to his personal experience often - which is entertaining and informative. Be ready to study - I studied about 30-40 hours for each test and squeaked by with an A-. Learned alot
This teacher is hard. Prepare to commit formulas to memory b/c there is no crib notes(cheat sheet) during the 2 exams. He grades on a curve though, that's how I squeak through the class with a passing grade. If you love mutual funds and bonds, then he is your man. If you're into stocks, he is not your man. Stress too much on mutual funds and b
He is probably the best finance teacher at SF STATE for a couple of reasons. 1st he speaks english...and by that i mean he doesnt have a thick accent like the rest of them. 2nd he has a CFA and real world exprience. 3rd hes very enthusiastic about the subject. There are 3 tests and out of the 3 he drops the lowest. Read the book and do the HW.
This guy is a great teacher. He has real world experience and he knows what he is talking about. His lectures are very informative and he's a laid back guy. Be prepared to study though! He drops 1 of 3 tests and grades on a curve. The Class average on tests is around a D+ without the curve. Very approachable and wants to help you out! TAKE HIM!
Herb makes Finance so interesting with his experience as a portfolio manager that I feel inspired to go for the CFA. There are 3 exams (no notes allowed) and the lowest score is dropped as mentioned. He provides powerpoint slides and HW solutions through e-mail or on his website so if you do the HW and study hard, you'll do well in the class.
i was one percent away from a c- and he still gave me a d
Herb is a very nice guy! He tries very hard to make finance interesting.... after taking his class i am thinking about minoring in finance. 2 midterms and a final and lowest is dropped so i got a B+ without even taking the final cause i didnt want to stay at school till friday. Be prepared to work hard, but this class is very pass-able
Good teacher, often talks about himself the first 20 minutes of class, but I guess if you are interested in going into finanace, you might find it interesting. I knew his tests were hard going into this class but if you study you will do well. I took first 2 tests, got an A and was done by Nov 2. Work hard in beginning and make your life easier lat
He is a nice guy, only talk with powerpoint, but he will explain very clear if you ave question. 3 exams, only count the highest 2, so if you do well for first 2, you don't have to go to class anymore. Need to do excises on textbook, that is extremely helpful. If you do all, easy to get "A". Recommend.
GREAT TEACHER
class is pretty good. the teacher is very nice and charismatic. always answers questions the best he can. tests can be difficult but if you study you will do well. class can be boring at times and sometimes he will waste time with stories. drops one test out of three which can really help. would take him again.
Meiberger is an extremely fair Professor and the class is not impossible to pass as long as you study. The tests are difficult but the curve is high and attendance helps prepare for exams.
Interesting, knowledgeable took professors Meiberger class during the summer semester and I have to tell you that it was a very big challenge, but he made the class very interesting. The exams are not the easiest, but if you read the book and do as many exercises at the end of each chapter, you should be able to do well on the exam. The questions a
Organized, direct, and informative. Professor Meiberger definitely knows how to instruct this course. A challenging course, yet easy to understand because of a great lecturer. Pay attention and read the text, do the homework problems even if not collected, and listen to his real world examples. Do all this and you will do well.
Most INSANE SHOW OFF teacher for FIN 350. ALWAYS talks about how well he did,I don't give a damn. Hardest test I have ever seem in my entire life. Closed notes and closed book for 17 pages for one test. 17 pages! You have to memorize at least 20 formula for one question! I am serious, you will die if you take his class! DON'T TAKE HIM!!!! TERRIBLE!
In a nutshell, this is a difficult course! But Herb, gives incentives if you ace any 3 tests. Herb knows his stuff unlike the sideline instructors! He's a real professional who manages a $16+ billion retirement fund for San Francisco. His humorous stories and real world experiences made the lectures enjoyable and how finance and investing works! -jc
His tests are hard but if you do well on the first two you are done at least a month early with the class. he takes the best 2 out of 3 tests, so no need to take the final if you're happy with your previous grades. He does not allow open notes and you have to memorize formulas, but hey, welcome to college people. he does curve sometimes too.
This guy is funny, interesting, but very complexed. He is passionate about what he does and offer his A students a chance of a lifetime to attend forecast dinners which previous students have landed jobs. He isn't a showoff and you'll see that when you go to his office hours. He's a real nice guy and isn't reluctant to give help or advice.
Herb is a good teacher that has real world experience in what he is talking about. He keeps students involved by trying to adding jokes, and a large variety of power point animal sideshows. He offers clear and understandable way to complete the course and will make an effort to clarify things. Speaks perfect English.
Very good class, after taking it I dsesided to go into FIN major. Although, it does take a lot of work, and you should study at home as much as you can. But it is worth it at the end, when you get a good grade for such a not easy class.
This class is very hard. Herb is very upfront about the amount of work required. If you can't make he commitment then take someone else. While attendance is not required it is really had to understand the material. Herb is upfront and isn't lying about the difficulty. He is very helpful as long as you are making an actual effort to learn.
Hard class. Be sure to memorize the equations. 3 tests, 2 count for final grade. You have to know your stuff to pass the tests. Nice guy and tells lots of jokes and his experiences.
I thought this class was challenging for me. I studied for the test, yet I did not pass the class. The tests are hard, there's a two parts to his test, problems and multiple choice.
All around good guy!! If you attend class, the concepts will be clear. The tests are fairly hard so study well! Just tests, no homework. Very effective teaching style
Meiberger is one of the best Profs at SFSU. He knows his stuff well, and tries to make class as much fun as possible. His exams are extremely hard 50MC + Problems, but he curves nicely. An A can go as low as 85%. You have to study hard for this class, but it's worth it. Take him if you can
Herb is a great professor! He tells you what's important & what might be on the test, as well as things that will help financially throughout life. He's an interesting character who's funny & grades on a curve. He's one of the best finance professors at SFSU, so try to get him!
Very good.
Do your best to AVOID this teacher. There are 2 part to his test, math and multiple chose. Math part is easy IF you go to his class, multiple chose are VERY hard unless u REALLY read the book. Be willing to put in 2-4hrs. a day to study for the class. NO CHEAT SHEET. Each test 18pgs long. HE WILL NOT LET YOU WITHDRAW FROM HIS CLASS.
Meiberger knows a lot about the topic, tests are straightforward (no tricks) but HARD. I took in the summer had to study A LOT but had a B average on first two tests and did not have to take the third. You need the book, need to be in class to understand what is going on.
He does not add ppl on the waiting list. Pick another teacher if you can't get into his class.
I took his summer class, and he went over everything very fast. However, I still got a pretty good grade. He is a funny professor. I only took the first two exams. I strongly recommend u to get past test papers from who had taken his class. Otherwise, u may fail his class. If u get it, then u don have to purchase the txtbook with at least a B-B+.
This class is super hard! I took this class in the summer and had to work extremely hard to pass the exams. He gives out 3 exams and averages the best 2 scores for your final grade. The test is difficult, 50% multiple choice and the rest are word problems that are similar to the examples on the PP slides and the HW.
tough summer class. I suggest taking these hard classes in the fall or spring. summer is just way too fast. his tests are extremely hard, 50 MC, and 4 word problems, while other professors tests are just 40 MC. pick another professor if u can.
I probably would've gotten a higher grade if I didn't have two other courses in the summer, but I loved every moment of this subject. Professor Meiberger is an awesome guy, but "no nonsense" and tough. No notes for the exams. You may think it sucks, but business majors, especially finance majors, will thank him later. Guarantee it! Take him!
Took this class in summer, and it ws HARD!No notes or cheat sheet for the test so you have to memorize quite a few equations.*DO NOT take the class unless you have friends with the previous tests. He keeps them almost the same.I wish I had them, i just barely passed. It is IMPOSSIBLE to do well w/out seeing old tests, he doesnt cover all q's in class
It is not impossible to get an A in his class without previous tests. If you study...and i mean really put an earnest effort into it, you'll be fine. After all, college is just a process of learning HOW to learn. Get with it, take this class and thank me later!
Meiberger knows alot. However, he can't teach. Lectures comprise of him skimming through power point not really explaining material in detail. Aplia homework doesn't even relate to the topics discussed in class. Tests are ridiculously difficult and the ones that pass are the ones who have past tests. Very stubborn person can't be reasoned. AVOID!
Meiberger is by far the best teacher i have ever had at SFSU. He taught so much about both finance, and how the real world works. Finance will never be an easy course, but Meiberger makes it intriguing and applicable to your life. Be willing to put in the work and you will learn a ton in this class. No cheat sheets, but you won't need em'. AB
One of the best professors at State! Relates extremely well to his students and makes complicated concepts crystal clear. 3 exams, lowest dropped, so if you're happy with your grades on the first 2, you're done with the class partway through the semester. As long as you thoroughly understand the examples he goes through in class, you'll do great!
Finance is a tough concept to process and professor Meiberger does an excellent job clearly explaining each idea. He makes all the material crystal clear. You just need to know what questions to ask. If you do the HW than you will know what to ask. Shows short videos to break up the hard material. By far the best Finance teacher. Highly recommend.
Truth: Finance is not an easy course. Although he is clear in class about the material, the test does NOT reflect the ease of these concepts. His fault is that he teaches one way and tests another. Also, he plays favorites; I had this chatty blonde girl in my section & they would just go on and on. My advice is to avoid him like the plague!!
He is an excellent finance teacher. He has A LOT of experience in finance b/c he's on the board of directors of a pension fund. Uses his own experience and relates it to class. No notes on test and a financial calculator is a must. Very calm and pretty funny. Uses funny videos as a break of the monotony of class. Finance is hard but he makes it OK
An excellent use of my tuition dollars. This guy is super smart, and knows how to teach. He can be strict, so don't piss him off. Financial calculator highly recommended.Read the book, go to class, and you'll do fine.
This guy knows Finance and likes, I think it makes it easier to teach. If you pass 2 of 3 exams you dont have to take the final 3rd exam. I took it in the summer and it was worth every dollar and minute I invested.Definately one of the best teachers at SFSU.Avoid Needham!I took his class and got a D, I took Meiberger and passed with a B!
Profesor Meiberger was a great help this past summer with Finance, which I heard was a daunting course. If you go to class, listen to what he has to say and do the homework you'll do fine. Plus, he looks a tad like Larry David, and knows how to break up the class so you don't lose focus. Take Him
Does NOT add at all, so dont waste time. 3 tests, drops the lowest. Tests are closed notes, several pages long, pretty hard. His lectures are clear & not bad, but the test are still hard. Be prepared to REALLY study. Even if you have his previous tests, he tricked our class & made a new version of the test & lots of people failed. STUDY A LOT
Probably one of the hardest professors I've had thus far, but HANDS DOWN the best professor I have had. I have never had a teacher who could relate his material so well to the real world. Hes passionate about what he does and what he teaches. By no means is this class easy. Complete closed notes. But if you want to learn, there is no better teacher
Relatively strict and can be very condescending at times, However, he does know and love what he teaches. Pay attention in class, do the hw and the reading (tests are based off them). He plays funny videos to keep you awake. Grade is based on 2/3 exams (fairly easy if you do the hw & read) + hw. Learned more from him than I learned from Needham.
Not gunna lie, its a pretty hard class. (even tho i took it during summer, which i wouldnt recommend if u like to have fun) But professor Meiberger is an alright guy. Hes funny, energetic, passionate and knows when to stop lecturing. Oh he also looks like willy wonka. ( look up condescending wonka meme)
Meiberger is pretty chill. I was told this class was hard but its not that bad. I took it over summer. He grades 2/3 tests. Do good on the first 2 and skip the final! Tests aren't too bad, gives you enough time, teaches you what you need to know. TIP: pay attention in class, do practice test, study notes. DEFINITELY RECCOMEND!!
This teacher is HARD! No notes, must memorize a lot of things. Can be kind of a prick sometimes. But he's very knowledgeable, shows funny youtube videos, and answers questions until you understand them - extremely helpful! Do the HW and pay attention in class! Be prepared to study a lot.
He's interesting. The homework would be the most annoying thing about this class, so make sure to gather a few and divide the work, as it is TOO much. He drops 1 test out of 3, do good on the first 2, but if you don't I hear the final is easy. One thing I hated was his lack of clarity, he refused to be clear on the curve, I ended up with A- not A.
SAVE YOURSELF & DONT TAKE HIM FOR THIS CLASS. He does NOT teach: comes to class unprepared and wastes time, yet has extremely high expectations for our performance. Tests are HARD & no notes. Homework is far fetched from the text. Barely explains, shows how 2 punch buttons on calc but doesnt connect it to the text. You will have to teach yourself!
At the beginning it was pretty touch cuz this is the first time I've ever done anything finance related, but he helps you a lot! Do the study plan FIRST on the online HW. 3 exams but drops lowest so potentially don't have to take final. Ask a lot of questions he will make sure you get it before moving on! Challenging but I gotta say I learned a lot
Just finished his summer course and I've got to say I'm beat. Meiberger knows his stuff, but the fact that fin. calculations are taught with a calc. and not by formulation is difficult to follow, esp b/c the book only covers formulations. 2 tests, 40 m/c and 5 fill-in problems. He genuinely cares!!! He'll give you the time of day and go over hw too
Really knows his stuff, a great teacher if you are a finance student or if you are interested in the subject. If you need FIN 350 to graduate but your major doesn't involve a whole lot of accounting/finance then you should probably take someone else.
his class is a joke! he should be teaching some philosophy class instead of finance. 3 tests, drops 1 lowest. so basically dont have to take final. Not hard but i learned nothing! If you r finance major and want to learn avoid him! HE should teach how to use calculators instead of writing philosophic quotes on the board & then test us on them.Pff!
Best class I have taken at SFSU if you want an easy grade he is definitely not the professor to take Meiberger has been one of the most knowledgeable individual I have ever encountered he is a great professor extremely helpful BUT also one of the hardest professor I have taken at SFSU this clss be an enlightening class for people who what to learn.
One of the best classes I took in SFSU. Meiberger is a great teacher, his class is never boring. 3 exams drops the lowest score. Didn't need to take the final, but still attended classes because I loved this class. He really made me think about switching majors. Not an easy class, but if you do homework and pay attention it isn't very difficult.
Hard final and exams overall. Try to do well on the first two test, if not hopefully he will curve the final grades.
very difficult Professor, he does a lot of calculator problems but what is on the test if different from the lecture. Seems like the questions of tests goes one step further than what he taught and you have to figure out yourself. No cheat sheet but a least its curved. If your not a Fin major don't take him he is difficult.
wanna get good grade then study hard at his class! very good professor, if you are willing to learn and with no complains about grade hws then take his class
you have to study hard at his class. he is a very good professor. if you are willing to learn then take him
very helpful
Tough class but he is very nice except when you start yawning in his class. His exams are hard. You need to practice working on problems by doing homeworks! && He is a very intelligent man, I have to say! He really knows what he's teaching.
Professor Meiberger is a great professor. The class is tough, but as a Marketing major it was pretty feasible if you read and paid extra attention in class. Three test with the lowest score dropped + HW make up your grade.
Don't bother registering on his waitlist because "it's not his thing." Never got an email saying he doesn't add students from waitlist. Show up to class and he rudely tells me to get out, because me needing fin to graduate this semester, is not his problem. I could have signed up for another waitlist and got in but now I have to graduate in summer.
He's very passionate about the topic thus he spends most of the time talking bout his interests and going over the HW. It's a tough class and I had to review the content on my own but it's definitely not impossible. I think he could've done a better job with familiarizing us with the topic. Do not wait list. He does not add people.
This class is by far the hardest class i have ever taken!!! DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! He only teaches you the basic and when it came to the midterm and final he makes it all complicated and complex and expects you to know everything when he didn't even teach it! He plays favorites so if you want him to like you just request for some dog videos....
Fin 350 is one of the most difficult class. However, if u come to class, do all your homework it shud be fine. Exams are difficult, but instructor is pretty good in grading as he gives partial credit it u get the procedures correct, which is very helpful in bring up your grade. Study hard and participate in class.
One of the toughest class I have taken. 3 exams. Each exam consists of 2 parts, multiple choice and written part. Written part is not so bad, but the multiple choice part is kinda overwhelming. many students were struggling with this class. best part is, he drops the lowest exam score so final becomes optional. NO EXTRA CREDIT!!
I've never been more afraid to yawn in class! Professor Meiberger was one of the best professors I've had at SFSU. Class is tough but if you do your homework and pay attention, you'll pass forsure. He pretty much handed us answers to one of the exams! 3 Exams w lowest dropped. 15% of grade is Homework. FYI, He does not ADD WL people or crashers!
This was my favorite class! Yes, it is tough but as long as you go to class and pay attention you will learn a lot!! Professor Meiberger does a great job at explaining the concepts behind the problems and will help you actually understand the basics of Finance. I strongly recommend this class to everyone!!! you will learn a lot!!!
Even though I barely passed (I'm a major procrastinator) it was my favorite class! I was even looking forward to take it again if I hadn't passed! Almost wish I had majored in Finance. I just didn't appreciate the non finance videos that took up too much class time. Short ones are fine
If you're a finance or accounting major that wants to actually learn, take this class. If you're on this website to find the easiest professor, don't take this class. You can get a decent grade if you pay attention in class, go over the powerpoint slides and homework questions and google the concepts that you're not entirely sure about.
Professor Meiberger is a gem. Super helpful, informative, funny, and cares about the financial and real world well being of his students. He teaches finance and gives practical advice for finances and common sense world navigation. He shows videos of his dog to break things up as to not let the material overwhelm. Or maybe because Bark's precious.
Professor Meiberger was one of the best professors I've had at SFSU! Finance is a tough subject, but he really knows the subject well and tries his best to walk the class thru everything, especially the harder problems. Make sure you do the HW, it's 15% of grade so it helps! Take him for FIN 350- trust me! Plus he shows videos of his dog, so cute!!
I wished he allowed a page of notes for each test. I had a really hard time on the tests because his questions are unexpected. Studying doesn't work because most of what I studied won't be on the tests. He needs to understand that some people have a hard time understanding finance and not everyone is a finance major. I didn't pass the class
He was very disorganized and not clear on what he wanted for his assignments. I do not recommend this class for anyone.
Horrible professor, doesn't know how to teach; tutors aren't helpful either. Tests are insanely difficult. Good luck passing this class because very few students do.
The best teacher I have ever had! He is so nice and his knowledge of the subject is extraordinary. Okay, just kidding. Please take another professor!
take someone else if you can.
I cannot believe he is still employed. Worst professor, does not care and assignments are weekly take at least 4 hours to complete .This is ridiculous.
ONLY RECOMMEND THIS CLASS TO SOMEONE YOU DESPISE. Full of himself... does not teach, expects you to know. HORRIBLE!
Professor Meiberger is by far my favorite professor at SFSU. He is inspirational and made me wish I was a finance major bc he made it so interesting. He is very smart and gives you tips about fin. His tests are hard but that comes with the subject. Stop whining, toughen up because life isn't going to always be easy and you'll have to work for it!
Very knowledgeable about Finance. I did learn how to spend my money. BUT... as everyone else said, extremely tough. Lectures are understandable, homework is easy but you need to spend time on it. Here it comes the tests, study won't help much unless you are smart in finance. I don't expect to pass the class, buy still trying...
Fall2015: Passionate about Finance. This class is no joke. Prepare to study! If you actually sit down and spend time doing the homework, then the exams should be a little bit easier. Two parts to each exams (multiple choice and written); three exams total; drop the lowest exam score. No notes! Just focus and youll be fine in the class.
Quick to respond to email, but very bland responses not too helpful. This class is difficult as he is unclear and extremely boring. Try not to take him!
Fin 350 is definitely one of the toughest class I have taken so far. u need to work hard to get good grade. Professor is very clear n fair about his grading policy. There are 3 tests during the whole semester n he drops the lowest. So, if u did ok in the first 2 test, you don't have to take the final. No cheat sheet for exams though.
Pretty straight forward but requires studying beside lectures. Weekly HWs make up 15% of total grade and the best way to study for tests is to go through the HWs. The best way to get a good grade for this class seems to be do good on the first 2 exam since the teacher will drop one test grade out of 3 tests and the tests only gets harder.
Practically teaches you from a calculator. If you get lost forget it. Hard to understand a lesson/ hard to understand where you get the numbers, from just a calculator. Should be teaching history instead because he's seems more interested in it. No cheat sheet. online hw doesn't really help prepare for tests.
Pretty much teaches from a calculator so if you get lost good luck. Hard to understand lesson objectives from just a calculator and understanding where the numbers come from. Nothing really to help you for the test, unless gifted.
If you pay attention, show up to class everyday and on time and know how to operate a calculator, it's an easy class to pass. He gives 3 tests and drops the lowest score, so the grading consists of your top two exam scores (85%, he curves based on class avg.) and online HW (15%). Make sure to shake his hand every once in a while and say thanks.
He is the guy if you really want learn something. I changed my concentration after I took his class. He teaches you about real life n not just from textbook. If you are looking for an easy class, you might wanna try your luck somewhere else. Fin 350 itself is a demanding class, so you HAVE TO put in some effort.
IF YOU WANT TO REALLY LEARN TAKE HIM!!! You learn about stocks, bonds, investments, etc. This class really help me understand my investment plans and my retirement. 3 test but he drops the lowest test, so if you pass the first two, you don't have to show up after the second test.
Heck of a guy, heck of a class. Drops the lowest of 3 exam scores, so didn't even need to take the final. FIN is a super tough subject, but if you listen carefully and note the concepts that he takes more time to teach, it's easy to tell what the exams will consist of. Homework is doable and does NOT take 4 hours. The comments below are ridiculous.
Fair grader, he curves test scores based on the class average. Most people's test scores aren't high, it is a pretty good boost. I got 80+ on first two exam, and I did all the hws. I ended up getting an A. Some chapters of hws are annoying but doesn't require hours to complete. On average, it takes me 2 hours on long ones, and 30 mins on short ones
Do not take this professor if you don't have to. He's quite rude and thinks he's hilarious. I passed but, barely. Just take another prof if you can. I wouldn't take another class with this man if my life depended on it. No cheat sheets which is ludicrous, and don't even try to approach him he doesn't have a pleasant attitude. HW is long. avoid him
FIN 350 is one of the most difficult classes for business students. This class is content heavy, but Meiberger makes it a building process which is effective. Homework every week and three exams; drops your lowest exam score. NO NOTES on tests, memorize those formulas and learn your calculator! He was also helpful with questions students had.
I wouldn't recommend taking this professor unless you know someone who has previous exams to study off of. He wastes a lot of lecture time with YouTube videos, goes over class examples briefly and usually only once. Three exams total (one exam is dropped), and only 2 need to be taken and passed to finish the course early.
Grades best 2 of 3 exams. Homework is worth 15% of total grade. You better do your homework; it will help boost your grade! Attendance is mandatory on first 2 days. He will demonstrate how to use the fin calc in person, you should take advantage of that for your first 2 exams. The 3rd exam is comprehensive with new material.
Great teacher for finance majors or business majors. Teaches according to his experience and gives valuable lessons that will save you thousands in your life. Pay attention in class and if you are truly interested in finance/investments you will enjoy the class. SFSU should be grateful to have such an experienced and caring professor.
2 quizzes that are done in class, super easy and super helpful that enhance your overall learning with regards to investments. quizzes are worth 10% of overall grade, HW is worth 20% of overall grade, and 2 tests worth 35% each. Final is cumulative. As long as you understand hw problems and how to do them, you will be fine on the test.
by far best professor in finance department. gives real life examples and guides you carefully through investment world. goes over homework problems. 1 midterm and 1 final, 35% each. multiple choice and short answer as well. homework assignments which help with test. also he had 2 class exercises that he goes over so easy points and also on tests.
I went into this class knowing it's tough; bought the textbook, calculator, "Finance for Dummies." It's TOUGH, & Herb makes it tougher. Don't bother asking for help, even with detailed, specific problems. He'll sit back & say, "I don't know how to make it any easier for you." He's cocky & full of himself, & doesn't care if a student is struggling.
Spends 90% of class doing the homework for you, 10 minutes lecturing on the same thing every day: mutual funds, so often that he might be selling one. Misses alot of factual information on the financial markets, and presents them wrong, wont talk about more in depth thing because everyone in class isn't learning anything.
Herb is an great professor, and I do like him, but I think that their are a lot of formulas that he expects us to memorize. In the real world if I could not remember a formula I would just look it up. If I was teaching this class I would allow a reference sheet during the tests.
Good teacher, and fair. Makes class interesting with real- world examples. He is very rude and arrogant, at times. You never know what mood you're going to get him in, so beware. Overall, I had a good learning experience from the class.
Like others have stated I am currently taking this professor this semester & he is SUPER HARD... havent even had a "test" yet but, he is not fun. I liked him the first few times but he is rude, he thinks he is funny (read that on here before)... did not read "ratemyprofessor" before I signed up for him. DO NOT TAKE... BEWARE
Frequently ignores questions asked in class on material. Was very rude to me when i asked to make up course work missed for an excused absence. Would NOT take anything from him again.
3 exams. he will drop the lowest grade. I was okay with the first and the second exam so didnt take final. You must bring your calculator. Memorize all the formulas!!very important!!!! DO your all homework.(15% of your grade) That's what you see on your exam. Easy two in-class exercises.10% Overall, i didn't like the class.
I learned much about the finance world and how to invest in for future (retirement). Herb relates his material to real life. Those who complained about the difficultly of the course did not apply themselves. Overall Herb wants his students to relate what they learned in his class to their financial futures.

Herb is an okay teacher that is passionate about what he does. His class structure is clear, 2 in class assignments and 3 exams, one he will drop. But my main complaint is that he doesn't really tell you what is on the test, and he doesn't let you have a cheat sheet, which makes it hard because you have to memorize a lot of formulas.
You will be learning from someone who is experienced in the finance world. so it's your choice to make : A: take an easy professor and you learn nothing or B: learn real work experience from professor Herb. 3 Exams( He will drop the lowest) so do good at your first 2 exams. no cheatsheet, but most the formulas are applied through the calculator.
He's such a gem, class is super hard though make sure you pay attention 3 test no cheat sheets & drops the lowest. He explains everything very well, super nice, always makes sure students understand. Cares about his students. You'll learn alot!
Great teacher with lots of experience in the field. Always tells stories relevant to the lectures. Reviews homework and helps students with more difficult problems. Tests are fairly hard but definitely manageable if you study. Would definitely recommend, disregard and rude/negative comments. Taking him again for FIN 355 next semester.
One of the best professors I have had at SFSU. Although his course does require hard work and attention, he gives you all of the tools to succeed. In addition to knowing finance inside and out he truly enjoys educating students and will answer any questions you have about the material. Attendance isn't mandatory but HIGHLY recommended.
very clear grader, drops the lowest exam. DONT SKIP CLASS AND PAY ATTENTION!! Mr. Meiberger's exams are tough and you will learn a lot from him; no pain no gain. Good luck!
Took Herbs class, showed up everyday tried my best, and still couldnt pass the class, also Herb requires a strict withdrawal policy, so I ended with a F. retook the class with a different professor at SFSU and I got an A. So choose wisely.
I'm a finance major and I took Herbs class in Spring 2018. If you have a deep interest in finance, Herb will properly challenge and develop your understanding. He's a CFA charter-holder so his teaching standards are higher than other FIN350 professors. If you just want an easy A and blow by FIN350 choose another professor. Challenging class however
Great professor, overall amazing teacher. I really actually enjoyed his references and stories. The tests were quite difficult but you must memorize the ratios, and formulas to do well on tests. No notes on tests. Get the right calculator, and you'll do fine. Study four days before the test, review the homework! Love this guy great dude!
The class was graded based on 2 exams, 2 in class exercises, and homework which was done online. Overall it was an easy class, except the 2 exams which were very long and hard with no cheat sheet.
He's very intimidating at first, but at time goes on, he's very genuine and caring if you have any questions. The final is optional if you pass your first two exams! He doesn't post grades on ilearn, but provides a Grade Worksheet on Excel to help you track your percentage. Overall, he's very nice!! Don't be scared lol
Great professor that adds humor to the class. This is not an easy course but it is a very informative course: memorize formulas and how to use a financial calculator. Prof. provides notes on examples of what exam will cover (HUGE HELP). The homework will help a lot as well. I am glad I took this class.
By far the best Finance Professor at SFSU. If you really want to learn and challenge yourself please take this course. Master your financial calculator! Practice your formulas forwards and backwards. Do not take this class if you are going to slack off! If you are passionate about Finance take Herb, he will help you grow.
This guy's old school. Don't talk when he's talking, don't eat in class. Call him "Professor Meirberger". Don't ask a question when he's in a train of thought, dont ask about the test while he's going over hw. Hes been teaching for 40 years, he knows his stuff. Get on his good side, say hi when you see him, make sure to always give Bark belly rubs.
The professor is very stubborn and arrogate who does not want any advise or input from the student. He thinks all students should be grateful for his teaching, and how his is generous on grading. The HW and Lecture is basically self learning, so easy class but you are not gonna learn anything. At least its not the worse elective, just need to pass.
Professor Meiberger shares some of his own experiences in investment world during the class and also helps students to navigate in real world of Stocks, Bonds and investment in general. I attended all the classes because you will learn a lot during the class. He replies to your emails very quick and makes sure to answer all the questions.
Hey guys, let's be honest. What are you guys looking for? A class that you guys can learn for your job/major/ real life or just want to pass and have a good grade? I still don't know why Professor Meiberger could not get 5 stars. Clearly, he deserves that. He is understanding, respectful, and well-knowledgeable about Finance. You will learn a lot!
This professor is really understanding and very knowledgeable. However his teaching ways is not very good online. He basically reads off PowerPoint slides. His test is EXTREMELY hard and disorganized. The remote exercise is hard so pay attention .
He gives so much hard work during a pandemic like if students didn't have anything else to worry about in their adult lives. Some of my classmates are parents, some work to support their family because their parents don't have the luxury of working from home , and yet Herb acts like his class is the most important . Give us opportunities to succee.
Course was hard to understand because I am not a finance/math lover. The lectures were hard to be alert for, he does not ask for much participation which makes it easy to zone out. The tests are hard, however you can take the quizzes as many times as you need to in order to get 100%. The exams are open note.
Herb is a great person he will motivate you even if you fail his class. His lectures are very long and hard to follow because he skips around the material. His teaching style doesnt transfer well to online. His tests are very long and will take a full 3 hours to complete and the format is complicated as he expects you to show your work.
Herb is very knowledgeable, but I think this class can be hard for people who are not heavily interested in finance. You will be using a lot of Yahoo Finance and Fidelity Mutual Funds. I also suggest you buy the HP 10 calculator as soon as possible, it is very vital during test and quizzes. Be prepared to put in a lot of time studying.
any class that's a Finance class is better online than in-person. Zoom meetings are recorded so its ok not to be there for class bc he uploads it on iLearn. 2 remote exercises (quizzes), 2 exams, & final. HW on Connect McGraw Hill. I don't get finance at all so all exams were hard for me even tho I did go to all zoom meetings. do the work pls
Very powerful stuff in this class.
Herb is old-school. Tough grader but he himself knows his stuff. He is too advanced for students that aren't majoring in finance because he expects perfection from everyone. You can tell her cares, but his grading stance is harsh. Get ready to study and know you formulas and balance sheets.
He's practical and expects his students to take his class seriously. Remote exercises and exams use all the same websites (Fidelity, Yahoo Finance, U.S. Treasury). If you don't have a finance calculator, you won't pass. Attendance isn't mandatory and he records the lecture and makes it accessible for the entire semester, but PLEASE PAY ATTENTION!
Professor Meiberger was transparent with his grading, the lectures were very easy to follow and you will learn so much that is going to be useful in your personal life! He was also really patient and always answered questions, no matter how often the question was asked before. Definitely one of the more caring professors at SFSU!
You'll have to purchase the 10bii calculator. All the homework and the textbook were on McGraw Hill. He taught well, but he doesn't understand how some people aren't fast learners, esp when it comes to math, and that we have different ways of learning. This class involves a lot of equations and different ways on how to solve each problem.
Be prepared to learn everything on your own. He is not very helpful, and quite frankly, not very good at teaching/explaining things. I personally found his in person classes useless and very boring.
I took his FIN 303 but that wasn't an option to select. This professor was sweet and cared a lot about what the students thought. The class was supposed to be in person but moved to online. He is very understanding and easy to contact when needed. The only thing is the homework does take about 2-3 hours but it is only assigned once a week.
Herb's class is challenging but rewarding. He expects a lot from students, but if you put in the work, you'll learn a ton. The lectures and materials are helpful, but Unstuck ai was a game-changer for me - made studying and practice way more efficient. Definitely worth taking.
