great teacher. does not speak fluent english but its understandable enough to get a good grade. study the quizes for the midterm because it contains the same questions.

Very nice & answers all Q's perfectly. problem is that he tells you to know what the basic idea of the experiments is for the test, but then tests you on something that was not explained. Prof. Aviles taught very well. Though sometimes his accent made things a little unclear he would explain it in a way that it would relate to everyday things. He sometimes cracks up a joke. Like when he explained what happens with your body if you are caught having sex (random). His quizzes are from the notes and his tests are from the quizzes.

I took his anatomy and physisolgy lab class. It could be difficult but as long as you do your studying theres no reason for passing. He provides you with plenty of time after his slideshow lecture to ask him any questions and also to review the what you just learned and study.

He is a great professor and really cares if you understand the material. He uses attendance as a grade which helps and also gives extra credit. As lon as you attend his lecture the quizzes and testsare straight from these and his notes.

I loved this professor. His accent is a little hard to understand at first, but you get use to it. Everything on his tests are from his power points. You have to study to do well. He made the subject fun for me and he has extra credit questions on all of the tests.

Took him for lab. Because he prepares his own notes for the class, you don't need to buy the lab manual. Generally you need to study hard for his tests and practical exams as he expects you to know the material well. Not too difficult, though not easy. Just print out the notes and take lots of pictures of the models and you should get at least a B

Took his lab, and I actually found it easier than a lot of people say. You have to put in work, of course! He was really nice and very helpful! The only thing he doesnt like is people not paying attention and asking stupid questions that he just answered 2 minutes ago..but those are the same people failing his class. I would take him again

Great teacher he really knows his stuff ask him anything and he will give u a scenario or great explanation. It is a hard class so be prepared to STUDY he has it separated into 6 20 question quizzes and after 2 of thoughts quizzes you have a 50Q test on the quizzes all of this prepares you for the exam. Just remember to study !

By far the most professional professor I have encountered at PBSC! NO BOOK NEEDED. He is very thorough, this is NO easy A class. You will learn. This is my 3rd time taking a course with him and I got an A every time

I would never take him again. He makes it hard for you to get a decent grade in the class, he doesn't give study guides so you have to read 1-2 packets for a quiz. Please don't take him, if you do let him be your last option because he will not make it easy for you. No extra credit, No study guide. Your either with it or not. Terrible just terrible

He talks very soft, so pay attention. I sat in front of the class and that helps. i like the way he lectures, although they can be long and boring. He gives a lot of quizzes, 2 quizzes before a big test. I would take it again and I wish I did for Microbiology as well. I suggest taking this class at noon. 2 times per week.

Professor Aviles is my all time favorite science professor. He makes sure you know what to expect the first day you meet him. The classes he teaches are not easy (I've taken 2 with him) but the way he presents the information to his students makes things very clear. He is extremely organized which is a huge help! I would recommend him to everyone!

The class was not hard. The quizzes were straight from his powerpoints and his tests had very similar questions to the quizzes. He had only two graded exams plus the final and 6 quizzes. He is very monotone and EXTREMELY repetitive. He grades things within the day usually. You do not need the textbook or lab book. Good for lab but not clear.

Prof Aviles is wonderful. His class is structured, you know when quizzes and exams are from day one and you know what to expect on them, no surprises. His lectures can be long, but very informative. Go to class and study to receive an A.

Professor Aviles is very knowledgeable. You will definitely learn the material. Plus, the tests are straight from the powerpoints so all you have to do is read the powerpoints. The lectures can be long and he's a bit strict, but overall an easy class if you study.

Aviles is the best professor I have ever taken at PBSC. I have taken 3 courses with him and I would do it all over again. Microbiology is his field of expertise so he was extremely passionate about the material. Do NOT skip class, he will take points off of your overall grade but he explains this. He's monotonous and boring at times, but extremely thorough so the material sticks and you understand it. Take his class in the afternoon or with coffee because he can put you to sleep. Always gives extra credit or curves tests. The wording on tests can be difficult to understand but he tells you what you need to study if you pay attention.

Professor Aviles really cares about his students. Although he is tough if you work hard and study you will get a good grade. He does not just give away grades he makes you work for them. It is a lecture class and he stands in the front and speaks. But if you study his PowerPoints then you will be able to pass the quizzes like cake very easy class if you study your notes .

He's a very straight forward guy, doesn't mess around and expects you to study and real previous knowledge to help bring all of the systems together. No textbook just power point slides, print them and take notes on them, study and you'll pass no problem. Learned so much not just passed but actually learned.

I am grateful to have professor Aviles for my BSC2046. This course is not an easy course so you should get ready to study. All tests and quizzes answers are in his powerpoints. The power points are online so you can access everywhere. He went into details of each human systems and explained very clearly. IF you determine and STUDY, you will pass!

My favorite teacher at Palm Beach State. There is no nonsense to his class, no packets you have to do, no graded notes or homework, and no "let's have an introductory game on our first day to learn each other's names." Dr. Aviles' class is just lecture and tests and I love it.

Dr. Hernan is a great Professor! I had him for A&P 1 I took the lecture and the lab with him was very nice. Some people say hes not this or that, but when you take him youll be just fine. If you go over his PowerPoints, pay attention when he speaks and study even for 30 minutes then you will get a good grade in the class.

I took BSC2085, BSC2085L, BSC2086, BSC2086L, MCB2010, and MCB2010L from Dr. Aviles and got an A+ on all of them. Attend all classess, be ON-TIME, no extra time for late comers. He is very thorough in his lectures. I suggest printing the slides and take notes on the printouts. These subjects are not easy, you need to study hard to get a good grade.

Dr Aviles is not an easy professor, but the truth is: HE WANTS YOU TO LEARN. Take him if you are really interested in learn the content. His tests are a copy of his powerpoints!!!!!!!!! Final exam worth 200 points and are the exact same questions you have in other testes. I took him for AP1&2!

He was a great professor!! Dropped the lowest quiz grade and he goes very slow which is good because it is a lot of material. Lectures are powerpoints and all quizzes and tests are straight from the PowerPoint. The final is the exact questions from the previous quizzes and tests. He wants you to pass.

These people that gave poor reviews have issues. This man LOVES to teach you and truly wants you to do well. Yes, he lectures heavily and thoroughly. He is very clear about his expectations. Dr. Aviles is absolutely amazing! I had taken him for BSC2086 I believe two years ago before COVID hit, and he was not the best at teaching online on Zoom. But now, it's a complete difference! His PowerPoints are all you will need. His PowerPoints contain all the answers to his quizzes and exams, so there is no need to buy a textbook. Recommended!!

5 out 6 quizzes count. Took 6 classes this semester; really enjoyable. If you don't study you won't pass. Can't really cheat either so wouldn't recommend him if you plan on cheating. Great Teacher taking again for Micro & AP II lecture. The bad ratings are for the people who didn't wanna actually put the work in. Everything's in the lectures just study. He Makes lectures easy to understand the material. Extra credit is added by showing up to class. Extra credit is removed once you pass the 3 absent. Everything in syllabus.

Dr. Aviles is a good professor, he cares about the success of his students. He gives ample extra credit. He is not flexible with attendance and you must participate. His quizzes align with his lecture, his midterm and final for the most part align, but he does make you think outside of the box when answering questions. His labs were interactive.

Professor Aviles is the best I took him for A&P and decided to take him for micro. He care's about the students and makes sure that you succeed. If you want an easy "A" without putting in work, this isn't the class for you. He gives lots of extra credit so there's no reason anyone should fail.
