Good teacher. class is hard, but pay attention in class and you can get a good grade. very willing to explain if you ask questions in class. reasonable grading. test vary from difficulty level but reading the text helps a lot. recommended.
he's an easy prof. he give 5 exams but will drop the lowest one. finals is optional. if ur happy on ur grade, u don't have to take the finals. do the homeworks and u will do fine.
this class is easy as long as you do the homeworks and make sure you study the slides and practice the homeworks for review. it will really help you on the exams/tests. final exam is optional. if you're happy w/ur grade, you don't have to take it. i took the finals & i did not regret it coz it was easy & really bumped up my grade.
Mr Tran is a wonderful teacher! He is very willing to help and answer questions. He allows a cheat sheet on the exams which is a hugh help. I would definatly take him again.
He's kinda hard to understand, and the material is tricky at times, but he is a good teacher. Always willingly answers questions, is funny, and drops the lowest exam score. I would take a class from him again.
prof tran is a great teacher, he is always willing to help out or go over homework questions in depth if you dont understand... the tests are pretty different then the homework or the quizes but they are passable, dont miss class and do the homework and you'll do fine
This class was challenging, but definitely doable. Prof Tran offers alot of opportunities (bonus points) to succeed. I would highly recommend this class for Finance 101!
This class wasn't too hard. Professor Tran is a little hard to understand, but you start to get used to his accent pretty fast. His powerpoint slides are amazing and they are very easy to learn from. Attendance and homework wasn't mandatory, but he often gave tons of extra credit points to people who stayed. Gives a few quizzes and drops a test.
good professor and very funny..hard to understand at first but he helps out with any questions you have..tests are alot harder than the hw..allows 3X5 card for tests..drops lowest test..doesnt drop any quizzes and theres 5 so dont miss any..gives extra credit when u stay the entire class but the class can get somewhat boring and hard to sit through
Best professor i had at sac state. gives tons of extra credit opportunities. 3X5 card for exams. took it in the summer.
Attendance is not mandatory but he offers extra credit points for just being in class. Especially after a test. Stay for the lecture and extra points. This will be the only time he gives them out no extra assignments. Great class professor is knowledgeable and fair. Lets you use old edition for book, but you will have to copy ?s from new edition.
Absolutely great teacher. I learned at lot in this class. His slides are so clear and right on the button. If you don't learn and get an A in his class, then school is not for you. I recommend this teacher over any other Finace teacher. He knows his subject. Sometimes he could be funny too. Can you please teach other finance courses too?
nice!!!
Great professor. He makes it easy to learn and succeed. Optional final, lots of extra credit. He's nice and can be funny at times. If you have a problem with Tran, you have a problem with yourself.
The material is hard but Tran recognizes that. The exams have only 20 questions that are worth 10 points each. Gives extra credit. Lectures are useful. Great class.
be prepared to learn something from class, his lectures are interesting and he grades pretty reasonably. go to his lectures and study a bit and you should do more then fine, his accent is hard to keep up with sometimes but will clarify if need be. good professor
He's great! Dry sense of humor but will make you laugh -Q: "Will you drop a quiz?", A: "I don't drop, you can drop - the class." The Tests are similar to the Homework and gives some extra credit. If you put in a little effort on the homework you should get an 'A'
AWESOME teacher! I never study for any of the exam and got a B in the class, maybe I m just good with numbers?
Smart Man!
Takes roll every session, DO NOT FORGE YOUR FRIENDS NAME. He takes a random roll at the end of class, if you get caught.. he will REPORT you. Gives a lot of extra credit, got a B without trying. study slides to prepare for exam/quizzes. no need for a textbook. heavy accent, but chill teacher overall.
Awesome teacher, fun class. He is very straight forward, homework is optional, not graded, however, Attendance Mandatory!!! would recommend to anyone.
He will take attendance and try to trick you into thinking you can leave early and berate anyone who did leave at the next class. However, he does give extra credit periodically for attendance. He?s a little hard to understand but very knowledgeable. Tests won?t be easy but they?re not ridiculous either.
Don't try to skip his class & leave ealier if u don't want to be highlight ur name and be called everysingle time to check u .Don't sign 4 ur friens. If u did, just tell the truth when he asks(maybe he forgive both) or just like my friend:Quit sac state and can't study at university anymore. HIs teaching is so great and "HE'S SO SMART-SO DONT CHEAT"
He gave ton of extra creadit. Really easy to get B without trying. He's great teacher, if you don't pass his class, you should jump to the lake.He helped us much as he can but he hate cheating (attendant & test). Never come there to ask him to get some point to get A,B,C.It's funny class cuz he's so humorous. i wish i can date with him! (jk)
Good teacher, does care about students. Pretty hard to understand at times with his Vietnamese accent (I'm Vietnamese too). Make sure to study the powerpoints and read the book because he does ask about concepts on test and quizzes. He also gives out a lot of extra credit to help everyone out.
He is a good teacher and gives you tons of CR. Take his class if you have an opportunity.
Gives alot of extra credit so it's impossible to fail the class...easy A or B and attendance is not mandatory.Great
Hard to understand
3 exams, 5 quizzes. No final. Few extra credit. Exams comes straight from the powerpoints. Attend class to grasp the concepts. The only thing I didn't like was that the professor never seemed to answer the student's question. He never seems to understand the question and could never answer it promptly. Overall, good class.
There are 3 exams (optional 3rd, NO final) where he allows you to have a note card, 5 quizzes that are randomly distributed either online or in class so attendance is mandatory. One extra credit opportunity. Overall, this is an easy course. He makes his lectures as easy to understand as possible. FYI, there are sign in sheets.
Does not give a ton of credit or extra credit, grade is based on 5 quizzes and 3 exams.
3 exams, 5 quizes (2 were pop quizes) Can not use notcard on exams but can use notes on pop quizes. Class is based completely on powerpoints and grade is based completely on exams. Final can replace lowest exam. Exams are concept and math problems. Concepts are clear, math is unclear and tricky. Attend class, study and you will pass.
Grade is based entirely on quiz and exam scores. If you miss 1 question, you lose 1% of your grade. This class needs more opportunity for credit.
Wasn't the worst, didn't like answering student's questions one on one. Whole class is based off 3 tests and 5 quizzes. Everything comes from powerpoints, but the tests are really hard. The points for the class should be distributed more evenly.
The instructor is very friend, and your grade is based on 3 exams, 5 quizzes, and the final is optional. The 3 exams is based on the assigned homework and powerpoint presentations. If you really want to learn finance, then I would recommend this instructor.
This class was hard! There were 3 exams wroth 250 pts for 25 questions and 5 quizzes wroth 50 pts for 5 questions. All taken with no notes! I wouldn?t take his Monday night class, because you need more than one night a week to understand this subject. He is also a little hard to understand and it doesn?t get better as the semester goes on.
Prof. Tran isn't hard to understand. He has an accent but he presents the material in a very logical manner. You must read each chapter and do the homework to understand what he's lecturing on. If you do well enough on the exams the final is optional. Basically, if you have good study habits and don't slack off then this is a good class for you.
Class is not easy for who are lazy. 3 exams, 2 pop quizzes (open note), 3 Annouced quizzes. Easy to pass if you cared for it. Don't listen to those negative feedback; this is Sac state, and we are studying for BA, not high school. Such as no classes on this world will easy to pass without studying.
3 exams, 1 optional final (my friends taking finals said it's hard), 5 announced quizzes, extra credit for self introduction and some extra questions on exams. Financial calculator required. Attendance sheet. This class is boring, but Professor Tran is a funny and knowledgeable guy. Easy B and you will get an A with some extra effort.
Good professor, has knowledge about finance and his exams are from what he teaches. Requires paying attention in class to pass. Does not collect homework. Exams are easy if you pay attention. 3 exams and optional final. 4 quizzes. Book is needed if math is not your best subject. Fair teacher, requires work but not that much.
Finance in itself isn't easy but he tries to make it as simple as possible for the class. He gives lots of extra credit and assigns homework (required) to help you study for the exams. The exam and quiz are based entirely off his lecture and not off the book. If you do the extra credit and study then this class is an easy A. 3 exams, 3 quizzes.
I got dizzy after finishing his exams. He throw a lot of conditional phrases in exams. So exams are easy, but if you are not careful with those terms, you will answer wrong. His exams remind me about CFAs exams, so If you are plaining to take CFAs, you should take him. His teaching will help you to prepare CFAs.
He gives 2 chances for a ton of extra credit. He lectures the entire time, book only needed for the homework assigned. Study guides are his Power Points. 3 homework assignments, 3 exams (includes the final), and 4 pop quizzes. Don't miss class! He moves fast with the info. He informs about job opportunities, help with math, real life in FIN,etc.
Great professor. Extremely clear expectations. HW is graded but it doesn't take long and all the answers are in the back of the book. Do the extra credit stuff. Its worth a lot of points. For the cheat sheet, just write the PowerPoint's down word-for-word and you will get an A on the exams. Didn't even buy the book. Got a 96%.
Easy Professor - Know the PowerPoints, Do the extra credit (if you need it, because it helps a lot), do the easy homework, and most of all MAKE A GOOD CHEAT SHEET, A in the class. With this said, I don't think many get a lot of this class because the your cheat sheet preparation is what you are graded on mostly. Take another if you learn more.
Professor Hiep is one of the best professor so far. He is very knowledgeable, he make class very enjoyable. Show up to class you will pass for sure!! Do hw, listen to lecture, print out ppt is helpful.
DONT BUY THE BOOK. Never opened it. Print slides, he talks fast. direct to the point and says "this will be on exam/ quiz". cheatsheets for exams (3). On like 6 chpts, takes a few days and youll be fine on the test. Quizzes (5), study extra practice he gives you. SHOW UP, or you wont understand the material. super cool dude, slight accent
So far he is the best professor I have had at Sac State. Overall there are 3 exams, 5 quizzes, and 3 sets of homework due at the time of each exam. The powerpoints are very helpful, things are highlighted and bolded for the important parts. I only used the book for the homework questions. Gives study guides with solutions. Well organized teacher.
I have taken Professor Tran for two finance classes now and he is, undoubtedly, the best - straightforward, blunt, and intelligent. 3 exams (full 8x11 double-sided cheat sheet allowed), 5 quizzes, and 1 project. Do NOT buy the book. Instead, copy every single word from his lecture slides onto your cheat sheets and you should get an A on each test.
in general he is hard to understand! your overall grade depends on 3 exams which holds 35 questions each from 5 chapters and worth of 150 points. He doesn't give study guide and the sample exam questions were not helpful.
Prof Tran is a solid choice. Lectures are straightforward but exams/quizzes can be tricky. Cheat sheets are lifesavers in this class. I'll admit I didn't work very hard but I did cram for a few hours before exams. Ended up with a B+ when it could have been an A if I put in effort. Work diligently, make a great sheet of notes, and you'll be fine.
Very straightforward and transparent teaching style. Material was dense, but through a lot of studying and reviewing powerpoints, concepts become easier to understand. Very few assignments are graded so be sure to do well on each exam or quiz. It's hard to come back from a low score on something. Would take prof again. Utilize self made cheat sheet
I had Tran for 134 and he was really laidback. However he changed up his style for 135 and that was awful. Didn't let us type our cheat sheets anymore, less than 70% attendence results in a F, daily TopHat questions that were mini quizzes, and his exams often had incorrect answers which would freak students out. Poor changes in class structure
Seriously the worst professor I've had since attending this university. This professor is arrogant and has a little man complex. If he doesn't like you good luck getting help. My classmate sent an email and got detailed help. I sent one and got told to figure it out. He is biased and unprofessional. Happy to disappoint him by passing his class.
Each exam allows 1 page of notes. Make sure to make good notes for each exam and include equations and examples from the PowerPoint. Final exam is not cumulative and homework is not graded.
3 exams, 5 quizzes, and a project, clear powerpoint, easy to follow. Cheat sheet is allowed on exams and occasionally on quizzes. Lots of material covering in each class. Attendance is taken, but not mandatory. Very helpful to provide advice outside of class on career.
3 exams and 5 quizzes. You are on your own on everything, he literally reads off the slides and the 3 hour class turns to a 1 hour and 20 minutes because all he do is read off the slides. He has a strong accent and that makes it really hard to keep up with him. Avoid him if possible
One of the best professors so far.
Don't take this professor for online classes, took him during COVID pandemic and regret it already. Condescending during lectures, doesn't answer emails regarding grades (his way or the highway - very immature), and his accent is HEAVY. As others have said, he flies through the slides, he doesn't seem passionate about teaching at all.
I took this class during the pandemic, and at first I thought this will be challenging but it is not. His lecture might be boring and confused sometime, but send him the message through canvas, he will reply within hours. This class was graded all on connect, basically if you did good on the reading, video questions, and quizzes, then youre good.
took this class during covid times, didn't learn a thing from connect, all it is is just mindless deadlines every week, right when I try to learn the material, oh! Assignment almost due, those connect quizzes and readings are useless, the only way I really learned from this class was the finance project, which tran made easy and helpful, luckily.
Lots of assignments each week on Connect, a bit tough to manage with multiple classes during COVID. Assignments are due on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, so make sure to spend time on class during weekend. Spend time read textbook and practice will help better grade on Quiz.
Professor Tran is plain but knows his stuff. I took FiN101, FIN134, FIN135 fully online with him. He has a day job, aside from teaching, & he uses the material he teaches on an everyday basis. I can't speak for in-person teaching bc he said it himself that his quizzes & exams are harder face-to-face. If you take his online course, easy A.
HE IS VERY STRICT BUT EXPLAINS EVERYTHING VERY WELL. HE IS PASSIONATE AND KNOWS HIS MATERIALS. 5 QUIZZES, 5 EXAMS AND 1 PROJECT. GET READY TO LEARN!! HE DEFINITELY PUSHES STUDENTS TO DO BETTER.
Like other reviews, if he likes you then he will help you. If he does not like you then good luck. Grades are not weighted so it is extremely hard to improve your grade in his class. Lecture heavy. Class moves extremely fast. Two days for lecture, a quiz, next chapter, and then an exam a week or two after. Only one extra credit. Rude.
Clear syllabus and course structure, easy to follow PowerPoints, the professor provides practices after each chapter in-person. If you spend time to review the PowerPoint and practice, you should do well on the quiz and exam.
I recently graduated with Business major and this class is somewhat easy. There is a group project which the Professor provided a sample, easy to follow, no presentation required. One lowest quiz can be dropped, no pop quizzes, all tests are announced in advance. The Professor responds to emails quickly, easy to ask questions during office hours.
One of the best finance professors at Sac State! He's direct w/ the material and tells you exactly what you'll be tested on. Study everything on the PowerPoint, put in the work, utilize the cheat sheet and you'll be fine. Occasionally gave extra credit too which is a plus. Drops the lowest quiz out of 5, 3 exams, and one project. Take him!
Lots of extra credit, drop one quiz, require one individual project (he has sample), can study from the PowerPoint without reading the textbook and still pass. Professor is helpful with any questions after class or during office hours.
Professor gave lots of extra credit unannounced if you were in attenance. He sometimes gave extra credit on exams if the average was low. Professor dropped the lowest exam and quiz, grading criteria was clear. Don't miss many classes and you will pass with ease.
Professor seems to be tough, but easy going. Drop one quiz out of four, no homework, there is a group project. PowerPoint is easy to follow. If your undergraduate degree is in business, you will do fine.
Professor is pretty tough but knowledgeable of the subject, gave tons of extra credit if you didn't miss class. Easy access to office hours, willing to help.
This is a heavy class, I passed with 100% on my quizzes but an average of 50% on my exams. He does drop one exam and one quiz which is nice. STUDY THE SLIDES! He says "it'll be on the exam" to practically every slide he shows. Overall kinda hard but manageable if you put a few days into studying.
There are five exams and five quizzes but one lowest quiz and one lowest exam are dropped from total points. Use the slides as study guides, make sure to understand the slides. Tough material in this course. Must spend time to study and don't be lazy. I spent 2 - 3 hours on each chapter or 4 - 5 hours each week to study.
It is an all in person, no Canvas assignments, test-heavy class. Written homework. The quizzes and tests are multiple choice. Quiz average was like a B. Exam average low C- to D. You have to study a lot! Exams kinda have to do with his powerpoints but you have to know definitions. Go to every class! Extra credit if you show up. Math-heavy class
Test heavy class, attendance was kinda mandatory. I felt there were lots of tests (5 quizzes and 5 exams) especially when the class met only once a week. Lots of math and concepts to study in order to pass. Go to class and study the PowerPoint. He emphasized key concepts would be on the exam.
Boring asf, but leniant with exams. All are in person however he allows a full page of notes, and a full note card on quizes. The powerpoint slides perfectly align with whats on exams, so as long as you study those you'll be good. He's not my first choice, but if you're stuck with him its not that bad.
A great professor who gives you hints on what to study on quizzes and exams. In my opinion, he was the best professor for MBA 220 and as long as you study, you will get a good grade. He is also funny, gives good feedback, respected, very knowledgeable, great communication, and would recommend! Study the practice guides with the ones that he stars.
Be ready to study especially if you are not strong in math. You can use a cheat sheet for an exam. If you have a good cheat sheet including all equations and concepts, it will help you greatly, take advantage of it. Drop 1 lowest exam and quiz. Go to class and listen to what he emphasizes important for the exam.
I would not recommend taking this Professor. 5 exams, 5 quizzes all in person on scantron. Quizzes you get no cheat sheet and exams you get one side of a paper. I felt like it was nonstop tests in this class. Also, he will find out if you have someone else sign the attendance sheet. He knows everyone's names and faces by the first exam.
Prof is knowledgeable & follows syllbus schedule. 5 quizzes(no cheat sheet), 5 exams(1 pg cheat sheet), 5 hw assignments. Drops lowest quiz & exam. His quizzes aren't hard. Emphasizes what's important during lecture. Goes over hw after each chapter. Random extra credit available if you show up to class. Study, use your cheat sheet, & you'll be ok
Professor Tran was great! He gives clear expectations and gives you clear hints on what to study for the quizzes and exams. This class can be difficult due to the amount of information but he makes it very manageable. I would recommend him.
