Dr. Altman is way cool......She knows that if she's not having a good time in class then your not either...Her class consists of 3 or 4, 1 page papers and the final...You will want to come to this class!!!! She rocks!!!!!

Dr. Altman is a great professor, who is both knowledgable in her field and competent in teaching. Her Interpersonal Communication Skills class that I took was a breeze- given you atten class and pay attention (which she makes pretty easy). She's great.

Dr. Altman really knew how to get the class involved and made the subjects very understandable. She has a great humor. There were a couple of reflection papers on interesting subjects that you will be expected to complete. I would recommend this course to everyone!

both times i took her class, she made an effort to make the class enjoyable. i was able to utilize the skills she gave me in my relationships, friendships, and jobs. i would take any of her classes again.

Easy class overall. Although, she's a bit anal about following directions exactly as stated and having everything her way. You only need to do one group presentation, in which you must speak loud and clear enough. There's about 2 homework assigments, 1 midterm, and 1 final. Exam questions can be a little tricky. The note taking aids are helpful.

Great teacher and class. Fair grading. In fact she gives you plenty of extra credit opportunities to make up for any points you lost. Class was pretty interesting. She doesn't overload on homeworks, and give you plenty of time to do it. You don't really need the book.

Fun class. She is strict on attendance, but she is a good lecturer. She usually provides handouts for the students to take notes on. Prof Altman's class was easy. As long as you show up for her lectures and attend everyday, then there's no way you cant pass her class. Overall, you learn a lot, her teaching is great, and I would take other classes if she teaches anything becides Comm 20.

Going to class, I knew I would always be entertained. Dr. Altman, uses different teaching tools, from Acting, Movies, demonstrations, and class notes (that r given). Definitely, one of my more enjoyable classes, I'll always remember her name, like all my elementary teachers, that shows she made an impact.

Amazing~Dr. Altman provides you with everything you need to earn an A (including notes) so you can focus during lecture and not be distracted by trying to write and stay on point. If you listen attentively, read the assigned material, do the few assignments to the best of your ability, you can easily earn an A without having to take the final exam.

TAKE HER!! She gives you a packet of DETAILED class notes that covers every thing she ever talks about for the entire semester so you don't have to worry about taking notes. If you don't cover something in the packet she'll tell you to cross it out. Tests are straight out of the notes. Almost no hw. Learned a ton and she's a really nice person.

She seems to love teaching, but won't stand for cell phones or talking in class, especially during speeches(2 indiv, 1grp), but offers some extra credit stuff. Attendance counts; it's a comms class, you have to show up to learn it properly. I learned a lot about how to more effectively talk to my boss, coworkers, and my partner.

Alot of people love this class and thats because she's funny and keeps the class awake. she gives you notes so you dont have to take notes, however i got a D on my midterm because it seemed like the questions were worded in a way i didnt learn them. everyone thinks the class is easy i say its fair. Dr. A put a lot of energy (too much?) into making the class entertaining, inspiring a rowdy atmosphere that at times got in the way of real learning and growth. Fairly generous grader though. Reqs: 3 speeches (2 w/ research), several quizzes, and 2-3 assignments. A greater number of required, casual speeches would've been helpful. Overall, not bad.

Finally! Peralta hired someone who is passionate about learning AND teaching. Dr. Altman is a fine professor, who has a very clear picture of what she needs to present, and how to present it, in an energetic and passionate way. Public speaking has always been my #1 fear, and i dreaded the thought of even having to do it. Professor Altman helped me through it, showed me methods, and I improved to the point where I feel completely comfortable presenting now. The only hard part about her class would be the presentations/speeches you have to do, unless you're fine with public speaking, her tests were pretty easy . Dr. Altman is one of those rare teachers who manages to instill useful information with as little pain as possible. Buying the book is recommended for those with a communication major. However, if you choose not to make the purchase, her notes are extensive. The lectures are posted online. I used them as additional resource. Caring too.

Professor Altman structures her class in such a way that every topic is very personable. Even though the class was more online based than it was in-person based, I felt as though I took more out of this class than I did with most of my other classes because the skills and topics touched on in this course were so relevant to every day situations.

I feel in love the 1st day of class with Prof Altman. She's very honest but yet funny. You will learn that speaking in public for 5mins is very intense but after a few speeches you will feel comfortable. Lots of extra credit available so please take advantage of it. That alone will help you get an A in this class.

Minimal homework. You need to give one 3-5 min speech. She gives speech samples and tips so It's easy. Why can't Hilary be my teacher for every subject!?

Professor Altman was an amazing teacher for COMM 45. Most of the class was completed online, but we gave two speeches in person throughout the year. She gave great feedback and provided a judgement-free classroom for presenters. Homework, studying, and weekly discussions were very manageable. Take this class!

At first, I was hesitant to take public speaking but having just finished, I'm so glad I did. I found the format of Dr. Altman's to be challenging enough to help me improve but not so much that it becomes overwhelming. Dr. Altman's COMM45 is the most well executed hybrid course I've taken period, highly recommend for students juggling school & work

If you want a professor that is professional, caring, and humorous; Dr. Altman would be a wonderful choice for Communications 20 or any other classes she lectures at Merritt College. Her classes are well structured and organized offering a variety of learning mediums of face to face lectures, videos, notes, and Powerpoint slides.

One of the best at Merritt. I'm very shy and fear public speaking, she made the environment welcome and safe. Presentations were difficult enough where its challenging but not so much that its too terrifying. If you are taking a communications class, I recommend COMM20 because you learn public speaking and also how to talk to others and listen.

She is just awesome and really nice. She is more focused on impacting knowledge that would be useful outside the class than pass or fail.

She's really nice. There's three 3-5min speeches that you have to do, but if you go during the first round, you'll get extra credit. As long as you fill out the speech outline & try your best then you'll pass. No final. Last day of class is for make up speeches & an on the spot speech you can do for extra credit.

She cares deeply about individual students learning. Highly recommend even if you dont need it for credit. Materials you learn from the class can be life changing and will teach you a great deal about yourself & others. She appreciates & values everyone's differences, backgrounds, and even weaknesses.  Truly grateful and glad I took this class.

Had Hilary over the summer for Interpersonal Communications. We only had to attend the first class and one more class to complete a speech to pass the class & the rest was online since it was a hybrid class. She is very sweet , has a sense of humor & welcoming. My nana passed away the day of my speech & she was very supportive & helpful. 5 Stars

She made it easy to understand how to do the different kinds of speeches and gave really helpful feedback When we did our speeches. The first speech class I ever loved. Yes, you will have to do one speech about a topic of your choosing. No, you won't die of embarrassment. The instructor and class are super supportive and grading is forgiving. Discussions are fun. Quizzes are easy if you study the notes she provides. This course taught me so much. What are you waiting for? Enroll in her class! Seriously, everyone needs a public speaking class to transfer and if you're nervous to get in front of a crowd she's really the best. She's fair and understanding, just follow directions and try your best, you'll get through it and you'll pass. Great teacher and a good sense of humor.

Professor Altman is amazing! She truly cares for her students and her modules are so organized, it's easy to keep track of upcoming assignments. The biggest assignment we did was presenting a speech to a live audience via Zoom. Professor Altman acknowledges how real speech anxiety is and provided us time for breathing exercises before presenting.

Prof. Altman held a top-notch course. She cared enough to inquire further with students who shared life challenges & recommend heartfelt possibilities. Course was asynchronous, with easy instructions. Materials covered were in-depth, with various support tools for exploring & understanding assignments. Group discussions are never an easy dynamic.

She care so much about her students and always takes every chance she gives to show it. Her grading is clear as well as her exceptions . If you do the work you will pass. You'll actually enjoy it. You learn so much about yourself and how to better communicate .

Very reasonable instructor. Class was not difficult, and there was lots of extra credit opportunity! Worth taking. I will say that her instructions are often confusing or unclear, and she is a bit unorganized. I frequently found myself needed clarification on something due to the way she words things. Our group project was also... stressful.

Hilary is a great professor! Material is very relatable to life. This class is not hard if you do the work. If you are nervous about giving speeches, take this class. There is a ton of extra credit which takes the pressure off. Also, prof is very supportive and understanding. Highly recommend.

Dr. Altmans is compassionate and cares about student success. She does not assign much work, but you should make sure you carefully read the instructions and cover everything in them. For online students, she publishes modules as the class progresses, so you need to check back frequently to see if she added a module that was not there before.

Dr Altman is truly invested in the success of her students. She provides detailed, personalized feedback for all assignments and is encouraging and specific about areas for improvement. You need to read her assignments closely, you will lose points if you do not cover all parts requested. Overall easy class if you put a bit of effort into your work

Professor Altman's COMM20 class is a gem! She creates a supportive environment and provides ample extra credit opportunities. The material is engaging, and her teaching style makes the daunting task of public speaking much more manageable. unstuck study proved to be a helpful study tool alongside the provided resources.

I really enjoyed her class. I learned a lot from professor Altman, and her lectures. She is dedicated to all of her students. Many can be teaching, but there's a difference when the teacher actually enjoys doing it, and she is one of the few.
