If you want to both challenged and entertained, this is your prof. Lucid notes, fast paced and highly sarcastically barbed narratives keep you on your toes during lectures. Exams are fair, consistant with course material, and need to know material clearly identified in advance. Loved her.

Don't buy the text! Great teacher. funny. kept me awake and interested in evening class, and that's all that really matters right? I mean lets be serious here. Somehow made the history of aerial photography platforms fun. Take this class! Hwhaaat? Okaaaay! Hwaaat?

She is very nice and extremely enthusiastic about her work, but she often teaches over peoples heads. She rushes through concepts because they are easy for her. Thankflly, during labs she is helpful and will often tell you the answer. Only take this course if you are majoring in geography or environmental studies.

Well, Hilary is definitely one of the better teachers i have ever had. During our class from 6.30 to 8.20, i was able to actually STAY awake and stay focused on the class because she just made everything so interesting. i would recommend to anyone to take this class, just note, there are a few lab assignments!!

One of the most entertaining teachers I have ever had. She made geography 150 an interesting class(wow). Enough work to keep you busy, tho. I was about to take another geog class just because of her, but unfortunately couldn't fit it into my schedule. I HIGHLY recommend this teacher, as she will spark your interest in geography. Lots of knowledge.

One awesome teacher. Only drawback about her class is that her hand writting is very bubbly and words kind of meld together but you just yell out and she'll go back and tell you what it was. Lectures were boring and she tried spicin them up, good on her. Also, her cafe idea is genius! Who doesn't want treats and stuff half way through class?

My favorite instructor to date! Her lectures are great and she keeps you interested! Assignments/Labs: Easy, Exams: Easy/Fair. Also there's an oral presentation so be prepared to speak infront of the class for 10min.

I have never seen a more dedicated teacher. She must put an incredible amount of thought and effort into her class and it is very apparent. She is well informed, entertaining with a great sense of humour.

Best teacher I've ever had! She makes learning fun! I actually didn;t mind getting up at 7 to go to my 830 class. She loves to teach and she loves it when you ask questions. If you mess up on an assignment she'lllet you re do it. She is extrememly fair and I strongly recommend her as a teacher.

Great Lady. Her notes are clear and she tests directly from them. It is nice that she doesn't rely on a text. If I could I would take all my geography courses with her. She is the main reason that geography is now my major.

Awesome instructor! She's very funny, if you don't have a sense of humor save everyone the trouble and don't her class. Very clear delivery of material. Fair marker. Exams are tough but if you go to class and do the work you'll get a good grade. Highly recommend her, I wish she taught more classes!

The Best!

Hilary is AWESOME! All notes are posted online, and her lectures are witty and easy to follow. Tests were harder than expected, but completely conquerable. Was not interested in topic before class, but she taught it so brilliantly that I was pulled in. Textbook optional. She is highly recommended!

Hilary is the best prof ever! She is hilarious and classes are tons of fun. All her note are posted online and the textbook is not required. Labs are really easy (pretty much free marks), but test are harder and require that you're properly prepared! If you get the chance take a class with Hilary.

Hilary knows her stuff and makes sure the students learn as well. Has a tendency to simplify some concepts and intimidate those who do not understand.

Funny, fun, and fast! Sometimes the information is quite overwhelming, but that's not to say the class is hard. It is by all means a wonderful class to be in with Hilary teaching. She is very involved ins the topic and often references her own experiences. Really quite a joy to learn from!

Hillary was my favourite prof at Camosun. She'd make you laugh everyday, and she really did care about her students. She was a very fair teacher. You know EXACTLY what will be on the test and there is no penalty for late assignments. She doesn't use textbooks either. I had her 3 seperate times and all were very good, I highly recommend.

Hilary is a great professor! She's really passionate, funny, and helpful. She goes out of her way to help students, and tries to make all the content as accessible, understandable, and interesting as possible. Labs are ridiculously easy, but the exams are quite difficult.

Occasionally the lectures are long and boring but she finds ways to mix it up. G100 labs are long, I suggest having a lab buddy. Do your homework and you'll do well.

The reason why I decided to major in Geography.

I truly considered studying geography for my life career when I took this elective. She made me so passionate for geography. Her lectures were absolutely fascinating, and I can recall nearly every class and what I learned in it, despite taking this course a year ago. By far the most fascinating class I've ever taken. Work hard, and you'll do great.

Hilary is SO funny. She clearly is very passionate about the topic shes teaching and wants every student to succeed. Labs are not that hard but very informative, you can always ask her a question in class youll not only get a solid, easily understood answer, youll get it in a hilarious tone

One of the best instructors at Camosun. Attendance in lectures is very helpful in understanding the material. Although she does make the notes accessible online, her in class notes are broken down and doodled on the board until it is ingrained! Also, she loves seeing students participate, so just go to class. The lectures are interesting and fun!

Hilary is so funny and you can tell she loves her subject. She does a lot of diagrams and her lectures are somewhat scattered, so make sure you go to class or you won't do well. She lets the class choose what's going to be on the exam and what kind of questions you'll have. The tests are tough but she's generous with marks. Definitely recommend.

She's obsessed with the geography and the environment in general and it's clear to see! There's labs every week, 3 exams, and a final project which is pretty creativity-based but Hilary makes it sound easy.

Make sure you attend class because her lectures sometimes stray from her lecture notes, and extra info will be on the tests. Professor Sandford is a great professor. If you take copious notes during class and complete the homework assignments, you'll do just fine. Make sure you take note of the topics discussed in class and ask her questions if you're unsure about anything. You do NOT need the textbook. She creates her tests based on homework assignments and lectures.

Great professor! Hilary blends human and physical geography into interesting lectures, providing multi-faceted aspects to the region/topic you're covering. Her sense of humour and passion for geography makes the lectures and content more engaging. Take notes and copy the drawings/maps she does on the board, they're very useful to study for exams.

She is so so funny! Her notes are pretty scattered but she makes the study guide for the test with you and personalized for your specific class. Very easy to talk to and if you're seriously into geography you can have some really cool conversations with her.

I wished I made a voice recording of her classes because many things said verbally are important both for the class and in other classes afterwards. I took her class 1 1/2 years ago but occasionally think about how people who have taken her Geog 100 class have a bit of an advantage in geog/envr tech. Great introduction course

Hilary is by far the best teacher i've ever had.,She is the reason I went into geography and I hope to be as cool as her one day. Her classes are hard, but you just have to fully apply yourself and you will succeed. She is always available for questions, and wants to help you excel she just wants to see that you're trying. Hilary is great! She's hilarious, makes lectures fun, and gives us interesting and fun labs. Relatively easy marker, but you need to know your stuff and at try. Put the work in, you'll see results. Only problem I had was that she goes a bit too fast in lectures, hard to keep up with note taking. But all lectures are on D2L as well. Overall, 9/10

I love Hilary. She is so funny and wonderful to be around and is super passionate about geography. Her whiteboard diagrams are amazing. She gives a thorough lecture in class but also has all the notes and slideshow posted on D2L. She is reasonably picky about grading criteria and gives good feedback. She really cares and loves what she does.

Hilary's dope! She provides the structure/some questions for her exams in her 1st year classes, which is amazingly helpful. She's a tough grader, but can be lenient if she can see you're working hard and engaged in class. If she says something is mandatory to read/do - DO IT. It WILL show up on the test. Super funny, real morbid - loved it.

I have online classes with Hilary becuase of Covid-19 and for me was a great experience! She is really passionate about geography and she will share her love with you. You will recieve the lecture of the week and you will have to read it and do it by yourself she is clear but you have to do your part. She is really helpfull and always caring

Hilary did a wonderful job teaching this class online. There are no weekly lectures, just weekly material to go through. She has weekly labs that are easy if you put in a little bit of time. Review the material before a test as they are timed and there are lots of questions. Not the easiest for an open-book assessment but very fair.

Out of all my Professors, Hilary was the only one who knew how to use collaborate , and had everything organized starting on day one. She gives checklists of all lecture materials to make sure you are paying attention to the right material, and if you study properly You will do very well in this course! Hilary has a gist for teaching.

I have had Hilary both in person and for online classes and she has been amazing for both. She is passionate and gives engaging lectures (even online!). If you want and easy mark with little effort this is NOT your best choice but if you put in the work you learn so much.

Phenomenal teacher! Makes geography incredibly interesting. I was taking this as an elective originally but ended up wanting to major in this! The lectures are super interesting and the course is well structured but it's a lot of information!! If you're looking for an "easy elective credit" this is not the class for you as the projects are intense!

I loved this class & her teaching style, but be warned it may not be for everybody. The weekly labs are challenging, but once you get the hang of it the feeling of accomplishment is so rewarding. Her lectures were about an hour long each week but I enjoyed them a lot & she has a great sense of humour. If you don't watch, then you prolly won't pass.

I love geography and Hilary Sandford made me love it more, as respectfully as possible: I want to be like her when I'm older!! She was funny, engaging, and knew a lot. Her assignments took time but because it's all very interesting I found myself devoting many hours to the work. Very fair grader with crystal clear criteria rubrics.

I enjoyed geo with Hilary, she is hilarious. Learnt so many new and interesting things in this class, especially about First Nations. She is a very good teacher, but you have to work for your grade. If you put in work you get a rewarded, she is very fair. Liked the lectures a lot, we just often didnt cover all and had to read the rest ourselves.

Hilary was awesome in my GEOG105 class! The weekly labs vary in intensity but are always very interesting and rewarding to finish. I did find that she looks for a lot of specifics on tests, but if you come to the test prep period she outlines the test completely for you. Really engaging lecturer, super funny, and really approachable.

Treats the content with a style of engagement and vocal energy. Direct and honest communication about assignments/extensions will get you a direct answer on how to proceed. Tests are set up for student success. But they aren't something one can fake till ya make it. Labs and assignments are easy, but again, not BS-able. Use her resources!!

But the charisma she has towards her felled is infectious and she is a fountain of information. Her notes are fables and prepare you for any questions on her exams. You will be challenged with assignments and tests in her class, but a challenging first-year level class is your best preparation for senior-level course work. Hilary is a fantastic teacher. I took Geo 100 with her in the fall as a non geo major and learned so much. She is extremely organized and all of the materials and notes are included on D2L as well as many recourses for help. She responds quickly to emails and questions. Class is mandatory for lectures but most labs you can do at home.

Hilary is da bomb - smart, interesting, interested. She give d2l checklists and quizzes that are everything you need for the tests. Labs are really interesting and usually local topics which makes you feel like you know where you live better. Fair and fun. You'll love her.

Hilary is a great person. She is funny, respectful, knowledgeable, and passionate about teaching. Despite this, I did not enjoy the course. A lot of what was taught and tested was very specific government policies, names, dates, and statistics. It wasn't my cup of tea, but I still enjoyed having Hilary as my professor, hence the rating.

Made the class very enjoyable to be in. Was very knowledgeable on the course and was easily able to answer any questions. I sadly dropped the class for personal reasons and because the content & terms used were not easy for me to grasp. That being said, that's not her fault, geog just isn't my strong suit. She is funny, passionate, and cares about the subject. The lectures in class move very fast though and can be difficult to keep up with (fast talker)

I came back to school this fall after working for a few years not really knowing what my major would be. I took five classes and Hilary's class stood out. She's organized, charismatic, relevant, and opened my eyes to what I could do in the future. Bonus: she's hilarious.
