Best professor I have ever had in baruch for political science Foreign Policy. He is a real gem. He truly cares about his students. very inspiring , life changer. learned a lot from this professor.
Wonderful professor, an excellent lecturer and a very inspirational man. He makes learning the subject so easy and interesting. Course work was fair, but you gain so much from the class that you don't mind the work so much.
Really amazing professor, Hill Krishnan is undoubtedly the best professor I have had in Baruch so far! Hill, bring a fire to the room and gets the entire class involved. I highly recommend taking any of his classes even if you don't need it for your major. Trust me, he is worth it.
This man changed the trajectory of my life with his passionate, intellectually stimulating, inspiring lectures. He got me reading close to a book a week and tapping into my ability to think critically and challenge myself into being the best I can be. Best professor I ever had and am indebted to him and his profound care for each student eternally.
Beyond inspiring. Brilliant and entertaining. Never boring lectures, prompts discussions from class figuring out answers. Cares about his students and their dreams. Knows his stuff, very well read. Little reading, one assignment and a final. Easy to follow and straight forward. Wants you to do well, you will learn A LOT! Take him if you can!!
Participation matters! You can't get a good grade without participating at his class. You have to come up with a long paper (15 pages) at the end of the semester as well as there is going to be a final. He does review for the final, so it was actually very easy. He missed about 5-7 classes during the semester. Overall, inspirational and caring.
No homework all semester until the end: Final and paper on a book of choice. When he says take notes he's absolutely not kidding. TAKE NOTES. Wish I recorded his lectures because they are heavy and full of info. Textbooks are his books. He reviews for final and he is a really sweet guy. He values participation. Highly recommend him!
This Professor would change your life! Most inspirational and influential professor I've met, just go on YouTube and check his Ted Talk. In this class there is only one Final, which he gives a great review on and a 15 page research paper and the topic is completely up to you as long as it relates to politics (Duh). No quizzes, tests or homework!
Took him last semester, amazing experience. His books and topics were really interesting i.e. nuclear warfare. Books are short and great for reviewing for finals. Lectures are important and notes are a must-have. You can expect a long Q&A report on a book and an easy final. Just need to attend and study the review session for final.
Seriously such an amazing professor. He's the type of professor that will teach you the class's material extremely well but will also digress a bit to give general life advice and book recommendations. Sounds funny but it was such a refreshing and great classroom experience. Cannot recommend him enough!
Engaging, smart, witty, attentive, observant, intelligent, energetic, fair
Prof Krishnan is good enough but not noteworthy. He has the charm of a decent salesman, his defects lies in his biases. I left his lectures thinking that being wealthy was intrinsically wrong. Good guy but he shouldn't be influencing students w/ his beliefs he is better off as a civil rights activist rather than a prof. If you mention BLM, Easy A
He is an overall great guy. Amazing professor that opens up your mind. Baruch really needs more professors like him.
Easy A-
Professor Krishnan is very inspirational and knowledgeable. His class is mostly discussions, but your participation is a huge part of your grade. He's a cool and laid back professor. When you get a chance check out his TedTalk - "who writes your life".
Professor Krishnan seems nice, however I dont think he really cares about his students. He gives the same fake excuses every semester to skip classes(family issue, under the weather, etc). Plus, do not expect get a reply when you email him, totally depends on his mood. No homework but 15 pages essay costs a lot of time. Also, final is not easy.
He is a nice guy but as a professor I'm not too sure about it. It seemed like there were times where he did not even want to be there. Class was cancelled like 7 times. Its an easy class, come to class, participate, write the final 15 page paper and take the final and you'll pass.
This is why I strongly recommend his class: 1. He doesnt do PowerPoint but tells hilarious stories of political figures. He also does impersonations of FDR, LBJ, etc. 2. One 15 page final paper on any topic of your choice 3. All Final exam questions were from what he taught and his final in class review. Learned a lot from this class.
I'm a finance major & took this class out of curiosity. I really looked forward to attending each of his classes. Hands down the best teacher I've had in my life. You can tell that he enjoys his job and I was lucky to take the class with him. I decided to major in Political Science because of this professor. I wish there are more like him.
Before I took his class, I hardly read any books. Now I read books regularly for my personal development, pleasure and knowledge. He also introduced me to audiobooks. It changed my life. Professors like him comes once in a life time. Take his class and get ready to be transformed.
His lectures are very good. you will get to learn a lot. But I felt like he was a tough grader. He has only one final and it's not open book. Most of the professors take open book exams. He is a tough grader and do not curve. But again you will learn a lot.
Prof. Hill loves to share his love of reading. It inspires me to read more on many subjects. His class is mostly lecture, with one paper and one exam. Student discussion is MANDATORY. I've learned so much from this professor.
Best class Ive ever taken.
Winter course, 3hr, m-th. Learned more in 3 weeks from Prof. Krishnan than I did in 14. He literally knows everything there is to know about everything. Will suggest many books for any topic, detailed explanations for key issues, as well as short anecdotes for students to remember. Lecture heavy, but no hw. 15 pg. paper on book from his list.
The professor is insprational however he strayed away from the topics, a lot. No homework, but 15 page paper at the end. Final was tough. He will make you study everything, but not all will be on the test. I do not want to take him again. He needs to be more focused in his style of teaching. Make sure you prepare really hard for the final.
I learned so much in this class. His lectures are very lively, inspiring and filled with fun stories and anecdotes that makes it easy to pay attention for hours. One 15 page book report. Only one exam (final). Final had all the questions from his lectures and class review. I had fun and learned a ton and expect a great grade.
Best professor in my college life.
I regret taking this class. I wish I had dropped it when I had the opportunity to do so. Participation is worth 30% and at the end of the semester, his grading system is very shady. He does not tell you what grade you got in each category and he makes it clear that you cannot email him regarding your grades.
Prof. Hill is a very unusual teacher. He reads and knows so much about EVERYTHING. He inspires me to read more and follow my passions. I am thinking of majoring in political science because of him. Yes, he is a tough grader, but his expectations are clear up front. You will have to participate in class.
He's very knowledgable about the topic. Used a very short textbook, with no HW. Only one final which is short answer questions and a 15 page book report paper on a book off his list. Take notes and Memorize every single thing he says. Its been a week and still no grades.
I took him for the comparative government class in winter session. It was a good class and he took the time to get to know us.
Prof likes to brag and go off topic. Theres no HW and only one final which was all short answer, as well as a 15 page book report. And participation is a must since it's like 50% of the grade. Lectures are long, and make sure to take notes and record since you probably won't be able to write fast enough with the amount of info coming at you.
If you want to have fun and learn, take his class. If you feel like slacking, and want and easy "A" look else where.
Prof Krishnans stories were inspiring though he had many, and went off topic a lot. 15 page book report at the end. Lots of note taking and he doesn't use powerpoint. I wouldn't take him again because I personally didn't like his style of teaching. If you want a nice guy who likes to have fun he's the one.
Professor changed my life. I was a finance major who took his class. He inspired me to aspire high and go to graduate school. He also wrote me a recommendation letter for graduate school. Currently I am in the MS program of Columbia university. I keep in touch with him through email for consistent advice from him.
I enjoyed this class very much because he made it fun. His final exam (40%) was exactly from the materials discussed in class. One book (gave options to choose from) report 30% and participation grade 30%. I was inspired to go to class everyday. I wish I had him early in my college life and it would have helped my growth early.
TERRIBLE! UNFAIR GRADING
One of the best professors of my college life so far. Class is a lot of fun and I learned so much.
Very unfair grading policy. In fact, the majority of the students in my class who were also in the Dean scholars program complained to our academic advisor about Hills unfairness. I wish I had never taken this class. He does not post or tell you the break down of any of your grades.
Honestly one of the best professors at Baruch. Classes were so informative and interesting. I looked forward to his class everyday. Read the textbook chapter assigned and participate once every class and you will get a great grade for participation. His class is so engaging and I learned so much from him. No tests. Just a final and final paper.
Life changing professor. Makes you see the world in a different view. I learned so much from him and he's a very educated man. Would love to take another one of his classes.
I took 3 of this professor's class and it was the best learning experience of my life. Beware of bad reviews: I heard a single student who failed his class & repeating bad reviews. Even the previous review POL 2553. That course doesn't even exist in the POL department. Make choices based on reading all reviews and ask students personally.
His grading policies are very unfair and he picks favorites. Despite how well you do on your test and final paper, he will give you whatever grade he wants to give you.
Hw assignments include reading from txtbk and sometimes he'd cancel class and have us watch a movie at home and then write one page on our thoughts and questions. Participation does matter. It fuels the discussions in class. No midterm. There was a final exam and also a 10pg final paper. He's a passionate, knowledgeable, and inspirational professor
He is a life changer. His class is filled with stories of politics. My first class in college and it was incredible learning experience. I worked hard and was happy to get an A.
Have taken him twice, inspired me to study PoliSci. Honestly the greatest professor out there, genuinely loves his job and it shows. He knows everything about everything and doesn't bore you with powerpoints or handouts. Very few grades but if you do the reading, take notes, and participate you will do well and learn so much. My favorite class!!
the professor tells stories instead of showing power points. it is easy to get an A as long as you read the chapter beforehand and participate. there is no homework. the professor himself is very inspiring. he recommends a lot of good books.
Professor Hill is probably the best Political Science professor in the CUNY System. He is so knowledgeable in his field. He is a wealth of knowledge and his friendly demeanor makes his class very conductive to learning. He has really inspired me to read more books and through his classes he would recommenced live changing books to read.
Show up to class and participate a bit and this is an easy A. His class is incredibly informative and he's very respectful of everyones views. He has really cool stories too. Honestly, I looked forward to showing up to his class every week.
He doesn't use powerpoints. He said stories are more memorable so that's how he teaches. Just read the assigned chapters to participate in class. He recommends a lot of books too. No quiz or midterm and a take home final for my class. Just one 10-page paper about anything under the American Government. Would def take him again!
One exam (essays), one 10pg research essay on any topic related to USgov, and the rest of the grade is participation. He says to read the textbook before class but I never did tbh it isn't necessary for participation. His lectures are great, but no slides so you have to take notes. No recurrent hws throughout the class it's easy and you learn a lot
My 2nd time taking Dr. Krishnan. He is an amazing professor and an amazing story teller. I wish that he would give back feedback on assignments, or grade the discussion blog posts so that you'll know where you stand. I would totally take him again in the future.
He is a great professor at Baruch for POL classes. Mine was only 5 weeks class:every week writings after watch the recorded lectures, movies & series, 10 page research paper and 3 page final writing exam. It seems a lot writings but at the end, would def learn more than the expectation. His teaching style was so impressive and motivates everyone.
BAD PROF. EVER! BAD!
Pro: I haven't finished the semester, but so far, his lectures are pretty good. His class is asynchronous, and lectures are youtube videos and some documentaries; both are pretty entertaining (Long, but it isn't tedious at all). There're weekly assignments tho. Con: he hasn't graded anything, so you can't know how you're doing.
Very knowledgeable dude. Makes his lectures like stories which makes the class much more interesting. For HW, every week he just asks you what you find interesting about the weekly topic. 10 page paper for final, as well as short response section. My only complaint is that the questions on the final were incoherent, other than that great professor!
I take his summer class and it is a video class. All the lectures he posted was recorded last year. 3 lectures and 3 posts per week. To be honest, the assignments were not hard and Professor Krishnan is nice and passionate about POL. However, the final paper is quite difficult and it is a 10pages paper. 2 hours to answer 4 questions for the exam.
Though the class is straightforward, the assignments and lectures are boring
I don't know why he has so many good reviews. This class is extremely boring. Makes you watch his boring pre-recorded lectures and LONG documentaries every week, and post tedious discussion board posts.
His lectures are very knowlegable and organized. You end up actually learning things. His homeworks are basiclly wright 3 paragraphs on the lecture video or of a ducmentary . Pretty easy. He does not extand due dates tho.
He does not post assignment grades. You will not know how well you did in the class until you see the final letter grade.
Gave lectures/ documentaries for us to watch every week and we had to write about it. I'll admit that it would feel long, but the lectures are usually an hour (less than the hour 15 we would've had if the class was synchronous). He's super engaging and understanding. As long as you do the work and put in the effort, it should be an easy A.
This class is honestly not worth the money, you can learn more politics with a quick google search. He teaches using pre-recorded content and YouTube documentaries. Homework and exams are all essay-based. Take him for an easy A, but not if you like politics or want to know how youre doing in the course prior to the final grade being posted.
He needs to be realistic during the winter session. Most students dont have time to watch 3-hour lectures/documentaries, read a chapter, read 3-4 articles, and write 6 paragraphs each day. Its simply too much. On top of daily assignments ur required to write a 10-page paper and the final exam is 4 pages (you have 2 hours to complete the final).
Don't wait last minute to listen to his lectures on Youtube and do his discussion boards. Lectures may be long and taking notes throughout them is very important as well. Believe me, don't slack with note taking. Complete his discussion board criteria, take very good notes, and you'll be fine with the final exam. Don't slack with the 10 page essay.
Professor is great, workload is unreasonable for a 1000 level class, as well as the 10-page paper that we don't get a rubric or guidance for is ridiculous. Doable but not recommended unless you have more than enough time on your hands to thoroughly watch lectures. Also doesn't grade anything at all and uses prerecorded lectures, which feels lazy.
I dont know man, hes very different. His lectures are good but when it comes to asking for extension, it just won't happen unless u show proof for your reason. Have to watch his lecture and some documentary every week and write 3 paragraph each.
cannot stress enough how much i regret taking this class. way too much work.
Just no.
10 page research paper at the end of the semester, I am dying.
An unnecessary 10 pages paper he will most likely will not read. Plus, a four pages final we have to write. Although I learned, his lectures are a bit of mess. He could organize them better. It is funny how all of his lessons are free on YouTube.....
heavy lectures, 10 page final paper, 4 page final exam, homework every week. pretty straightforward of a class in terms of assignments and expectations, but he does not give feedback. i have no idea what my grade is for the class, which is concerning. he rambles in his lectures but just take good notes and you should be fine
Avoid this Professor. His lectures are unclear and the workload can get heavy. He is very strict with his policies. I would not take him again.
too much workload, be aware. lectures are long, 10 page final essay, with an additional 4 page final exam. not worth it if ur taking it for an elective. He sounds nice in the emails but his policies and workload says otherwise
Class was asynchronous and it was so much work. 14 weekly assignments and you have to write like 3-6 paragraphs for each assignment. **Please take notes word for word because it will come in the exam. No joke, all the test questions were from lectures**. Essay was not an easy task, always go with Rwandan genocide bc there is a lot of info on that.
Asynchronous class, so we needed to watch recordings of his lessons and sometimes we have a documentary to watch as well. This can be very tedious and long because you need to take detailed notes since the final exam requires you to be very specific. The workload was heavy and you cannot procrastinate because he does not accept late work.
Even if you email him 2 minutes after the deadline late work is not accepted by any means. There was definitely not enough time for the final (consisted of 4 questions, 4 pages in two hours). I had gotten covid three days before submission of essay and final, emailed him to inform him but I never got a response. He is not a hard grader though.
This was an asynchronous class, don't take this class if you procrastinate. He gives homework every Monday, you watch one of his lectures on Youtube and then respond to the same question each week. There's a 10-page final essay and 4 additional questions based on the things you learned from his lecture. TAKE NOTES FROM THE LECTURES.
Class was asynchronous and despite him seeming like a nice guy, he was somewhat inconsistent. What he posted on blackboard and email often contradicted what he wrote on the syllabus, leading to having to directly confront him about it. Never grades assignments so you'd never know if you're improving or not. At least he's flexible with grading.
he was really nice as long as you put effort into contributing to the class conversation. graded only from participation (take notes from textbook and just talk in class), 12 pg final paper, and written take home final exam. final is easy if you took good notes during class.
just come to class and listen to him you will be good
Good professor! I took a winter semester, so we only had a few classes. To get an A, you need to write ten pages essay and a 4-page final exam. Take notes and read the material because you will need it for your final. Overall an easy A.
Professor Krishnan had a deep understanding of politics and was very knowledgeable on the subject. The lectures were very interesting, and I enjoyed having him as my professor throughout the semester as I learned a lot of new information. As for the final, as long as you went to class and participated, and took notes, then you'll be fine.
Dr. Krishnan is very knowledgeable on the content taught & many related subjects. He made the material very relatable to other social sciences and disciplines as well as historic & current events. You can clearly see how geo-political affairs play out in daily life. Participation counts 30%. 10 page paper 40%,final exam 30%. Interesting lectures.
this class is mainly participation-based, so attend frequently as possible. he is very passionate about the government and politics, so discussions are interesting. a 10-15 page paper is due at the end of the semester and hw consists of reading a chapter from the textbook + taking notes. the final is online/take-home, but make sure to participate.
I got an A in the class. I don't like there is no slide show to take notes from. It is hard to catch everything the professor says. You have to listen to the lecture. Easy A if you use your resources. If you're normally an A student, you'll get an A.
He's an easy grader, but the workload is heavy with long papers and weekly assignments involving watching his videos and writing discussion boards. if you are a non-native English speaker might pick professors with multiple-choice questions to minimize writing tasks.
Have 40% participation, so be ready, but other than that, amazing professor, great lectures
There was weekly homework based on the textbook, but it can be done without it. If you participate, he will like you, and you'll most likely pass. I liked him tbh. The final was a lot of work with a 10-page paper, but it was done beforehand, and a 4-question short answer test was done online.
Grade is based on class participation and the final paper at the end of the course. Really interesting professor with cool lectures and just asks you to read the textbook with occasional virtual assignments; he remembers everything so keep that in mind.
Pros: No HW; Read the chapter before class Cons: I was used as a joke in the lectures. An example is when he would ask us what is the American Dream. He laughed at my answer since my classmates also said it, but I just said it in different words. It happened more than once but be prepared to be laughed at. Just get along with him.
Easy and enjoyable professor. The workload is not heavy at all, just weekly readings and some discussion boards. Participation does count as 40% so make sure to engage, he does remember faces. There is a 10 page final paper on a topic of your choice and a 4 question open-book written final exam online. If you have good notes it should be a breeze.
Professor Krishnan is a great professor! He makes his lectures interesting to follow along. He has 40% participation so make sure to participate in his lectures. There is a four-question final exam and a 10-12 page final paper due at the end of the semester, but those are doable if you get a head start on the paper. Definitely a 5/5 professor!
He is very knowledgable and his lectures are always informative and interesting. The workload is not bad, 10-15 page paper, take home final, and sometimes discussion board posts. Majority of your grade is participation. It just sucks that he doesn't really post your grades throughout the semester so you don't know your grade until after the final.
40% participation, so showUP every class! Start a month early on your finalPaper (10-15 pages, varies if ur honors student or not). Keep in note: for every class, this professor is absent, you will need to watch an hour to two hour documentary and write 3 paragraphs on each video. Also note that he could be absent a lot.
Final(Online) 2Hrs-4 ques-Each ques requires a page response |Final Project(Argumentative Essay)12 Pages-5 Peer Reviewed Sources | Attendance is vital for passing this class, you will not be allowed to take the final you HARDLY come to class | Take Notes they will help 100% for the final| BARELY any homework |No tests/Quizzes 10/10 Professor
Professor Krishnan is such a nice and genuine person. He breaks his grading down in the following manner: 40% Participation: GO TO HIS LECTURES!!!, 30% Take-Home Final Exam: YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO TAKE THE FINAL EXAM IF YOU DO NOT ATTEND HIS LECTURES!!! (exam answers come from his lectures.) 30% Final Paper: Start early!!! (10-12 pages in length).
Professor is smart and engaging. He relates what we're learning to current events. Very accessible outside of class. He is understanding and caring for his students. Participation is easy, too.
Great professor! Lecture heavy, however his lectures are interesting and are relevant to modern day/current events. He was very understanding of my predicament this semester (course overload) and I am truly thankful. Rarely leave reviews but he deserves it for being a kind professor. Be sure to participate!
weekly 3 paragraph assignment about 3 things you found interesting about the lectures that are often 30-70 mins long. 15-page final paper. 4 page final written exam (easy). occasional movies. pretty easy workload. would've gotten an A if i submitted all the weekly assignments. would recommend.
Discussion based class, need to read textbook before class if you want to be a part of the class. He does grade based on participation. Assignments will only be given if he's absent. Want a good grade do very good on the final. No phone or laptop policy, also cant talk or whisper.
Professor Krishnan keeps his lectures engaging and the material relevant. Attendance is a must - the final exam questions come straight from the lectures. Pair class notes with unstuck study flashcards to ace the 12-page paper and 4-question final.
it's the best professor that I met at Baruch College. I had him in pol 1101, and he was the best. he engaged us in conversations and wanted to know every person's opinion. I would take him again. I wish he lectured more social courses like psychology and sociology.
A very smart and educated professor. Graded by participation, a final paper, and a final exam. Make sure to show up to every class prepared having read the chapter for that week. Make sure to also take notes; on EVERYTHING because he also brings up niche topics. It will help for the final. If you have good notes, the final should breeze.
Never posts grades on time, so you can't track where you are on the grade scale... so final grade was a suprise. An unpleasant one at that.
This was in the summer session so this was asynchronous but man for 5 weeks of work this was a lot. We had about 3 assignments a week which included at least 4-5 hours of videos to watch with it. His lectures were amazing and told us everything we needed but way too long. The final paper and exam was a total of 14 pages and this is a lot to ask for
I find it amazing how he can recall these information off the top of his head. He helps us understand the topic and material. There's a few assignments on bright space, final paper and a final exam. He's consistent with his emails and able to talk briefly after class time.
Amazing lectures. He remembers everything from real books and real studies. Gives him a lot of credibility. Participation is important but it makes the class a lot more enjoyable than a normal lecture would be. He's also very inspirational.
Definitely take if you have interest in poli sci, he's a funny character and knows so much about politics. Every class is a group discussion combining the lessons with current events/news. Graded only on participation, midterm and final. Talk to him and he will like you, he wants to be your friend and hear your thoughts. No computers allowed though
Lots of watching lectures but overall interesting. Assignments are straightforward. He is extremely passionate and knowledge about history!!
He is very put together! Now you can get away with not reading but only if you understand the idea of what will be discussed. Still I would recommend reading and attending class. Sometimes it can feel long but if you interact and/or pay attention you will find the class engaging.
Professor, Krishnan If you are seeing this, I want to thank you for the hard work and dedication you put in to make this class interesting and enjoyable. Not a POL major, but I recommend anybody looking for POL classes to TAKE HIM! Watching YT videos and reading a lot but very entertaining! Check out his YT channel! ->Dr. Hill Krishnan
He always comes late, doesn't grade till the very end so I never knew my grades all semester, has a big cheesy smile but is always unorganized and unprepared. Honestly taking him is like walking in to a maze blind.
Brilliant man! He has changed my life. I started reading more books for fun. His passion was vivid in every class. He explained each concepts with stories and kept as engaged. Even though I am not a political science major or minor before taking this class, after this class I decided to minor in political science.
I learned a lot.
Even though it was an online asynchronous class, his video lectures were super engaging. He is the best teacher I have had in all my courses. He doesn't give extensions on assignments but it was graded just pass or fail. I learned a lot. TAKE HIM if you get a chance.
