She gradeds her labs hard.

She's really nice, this class is hard because she grades too pickyon lab reports, hard to make and A in lab. Lab is suppose to be easy,well this one isn't

Yes she is hard, but not unreasonable. The lab takes a long time, but she gives you everything you need for the reports. She does understand that we're human and she is very helpful during labs.

OK this is hard as hell, but if you are reasonable with her she will be reasonable with you. I slept through lab once, approached her calmly, and she let me take the entrance quiz and do lab the next day. HARD!

She is very demanding but come on this is upper level chemistry not high school learn to work and you will be fine and she will help you if she ask. These labs can be very dangerous she has to be the way she is for your safety

Everyone gripes about her, but she isn't all bad. She is very clear in her instructions and will help you out as long as she sees you are trying. Don't miss without an excuse, and not often. As long as you try, you will be ok.

Dr. Fijolek is a reasonable professor- people just crack jokes on her because of the way she appears. She was always more than helpful when I had problems. A lot of people hate the lab because it lasts forever.

She has a reputation for freaking out about small things, it is true. But as long as you are really nice about a problem you have, she is willing to help. Make sure you study HARD for the quizzes. The labs are very long, as well as the briefings.

She's a very difficult grader, but is very willing to help and often explains better than class Professors. Follow directions exactly, go to class, ask questions, and you'll do fine.

The class is demanding. But what else would you expect from organic labs. All the organic labs, no matter what school you go to are hard. She is merely asking you what is expected from you. People make fun of her appearance..and i think it is very wrong!!

(See below) I see that you know how to rate yourself Dr. Fijolek. I am sorry how mean people are talking about you.

At first Dr. fijolek alarmed me. She tends to snap at people if she thinks they are being stupid. However, she is an excellent lecturer and gives you all the info you need. There are no real surprises on the quizzes and the lab reports are reasonable.

Experienced and polished teacher with impeccable preparation.

Dr. Fijolek rules. I used to dislike her a lot but many ppl cannot help liking her by the end. She knows her stuff, and explains it very well. The class is very straight forward even if the subject matter is hard/annoying at times. fijolek can be a little gruff but she helps serious students.

Dr. Fijolek expects a lot of students but she is NOT unreasonable. She is very helpful and truly wants her students to learn. I learned more about some of the mechanisms from her than I did in lecture. The labs are tough but would you expect anything less from organic chemistry?

She comes off as really mean at first, but she will grow on you. She spends way too much time explaining the lab, so we end up having to stay later than we should. Labs really aren't that bad as long as you prepare.

Dr. Fijolek is really scary at first, but she's alright! There is definitely too much work involved for this one hour class!! Labs aren't that bad, but you will stay the whole time everytime! Briefing is horrible...she talks forever!! She's a nice person though, and you will learn about Chem.!

She is possibly the hottest teacher on campus. She can dye her hair any color and it somehow always looks amazing. She has the best style, and her sense of fashion inspires me. She also is willing to stay late any time you have a problem, and is extremely helpful and fair. BEST TEACHER EVER!!!!!!

she's not bad i guess... but grades like a mad woman on quizzes. you have lots of extra credit opportunities, and you REALLY need to take advantage of it.

I didn't think she was too terribly hard. I usually made high B's or low A's on my lab reports (she provides guidelines on answering questions on WebCT). Quizzes are easy too - usually involves you spitting back out the overall rxn or procedure. As said below, she talks more than necessary. Be nice to her, and she'll be nice to you.

She is strict without normal reason. You have to befriend the TAs. Good Luck.

she's so ANAL. she basically implies that if you breathe on the equipment in the wrong way, you'll mess up your results and she'll fail you. also WAY too wordy; you'll get like 4-5 e-mails a week, all VERY long. she treats it like a class when its just a lab. however, she runs ALL the organic labs, so if you take organic, you'll hafta have her.

All I heard about her before now was that she is sooo awful. I really don't see why. She's super nice, and has helped me out any time I've asked, either in person or e-mail. I was having trouble on a quiz and she even told me to come to her office and she'd help me learn how to do it right before I ran out of chances. extremely straightforward.

The Organic Labs are stressful while you are doing them, but if you do them... do a good job, do the reports (NOT LAST MINUTE) you'll do fine. Now that she is in the new building with two labs going at a time she is a bit stressed during lab periods but seek her help OUTSIDE of lab if needed. Made an A in both labs.

Finally, I am done with this lab. Dr. Fijolek grades tough. Don't expect an easy A or B. She can be helpful if you catch after lab times. She even extended a report for everyone to have a few extra days. I am glad to be done with this lab. BEWARE, if you get too close, you will be suffocated by the overwhelming aroma of ****.

I liked her. She's really nice, one-on-one. Just follow the rules, dot your i's and cross your t's...and you'll be fine. She's just extremely OCD and rigidly structured...but a really nice person who ALWAYS helped me if I asked.

Dr.Fijolek is quite the oddball and its obvious that she is doing all the work for everything having to do with O-Chem labs. Though she comes off at first as crazy and strict, you will soon find out that one-on-one she is nice and helpful.She let me turn in two reports late and let me do the lab even though I was 40 minutes late.Crazy but nice :-)

She expects too much from you for just a one hour credit. You have to spend a lot of time preparing for lab and lab usually takes almost all of the 3 hours (if not more usually). She is awkward, but pretty helpful and nice if you go to her one-on-one. She offers extra credit a good bit too. You also do better than you think you are.

Dr. Fijolek is eccentric and initially intimidating, but she is really very friendly and reasonable. She works her tail off, often coming in very, very early and leaving extremely late at night. She truly wants to help her students and makes every effort to be fair. Be nice to her and she will be kind in return. Don't be scared or intimidated.

She was extremely helpful if you go see her. I did pretty bad and she gave me points just for coming in and talking to her about it. i really liked her. She is VERY down to earth unlike many of the other chemistry people. I really like her even though it was a WHOLE LOT of work!! but overall she's great

Dr. Fijolek is definitely an odd lady. However, she is extremely helpful and sincerely wants her students to do well. She wants you to learn, so she makes you prepare a lot. If you do prepare how she wants and do the lab reports, you will learn, which is unique for a lab. Overall, she is the best lab instructor I've had at Auburn

Dr. Fijolek is extremely helpful and really knows her stuff. Her class is not that hard, but at times can be a lot of work. One good thing is you do not always have a lab report due each week. She gives you a few opportunities for extra credit which you should take advantage of. She is really helpful and knowledgeable.

She is a strange lady, but she is really nice. She knows her stuff and at times can be really OVER DRAMATIC! After getting pre-lab lectures you are afraid that if you make a mistake you will die!

She (for Summer '08 classes)just completely re-did how she does lab quizzes. You have a 25 question quiz at the beginning of lab and if you miss important questions you can't attend lab. But don't let it scare you. She just implemented a 5% formal report in place of the weekly lab reports. I think the new style of lab is better than in the past

I liked this class, however, while Dr. Fijolek was an all around good teacher, I did have some problems with her class. She was VERY smart and could help out with any problems or questions when needed, but she was hardly ever around for help. Also, you never get any grades back the entire semester. You only see what your final grade ends up as.

Lab is not necessarily difficult, but there is a lot of time devoted pre and post-lab. Far more time than a 1 hour class should require. Follow instructions VERY carefully and be thorough and you'll get an A. Do the extra credit. You can tell she really knows the material, which is nice.
